#Mark J. Byrne
Text
Molly Redden at HuffPost:
Wesley Bell, a St. Louis prosecutor who is mounting a formidable Democratic primary challenge against Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), is campaigning as someone who will produce more tangible results for the district while sharing many of her same left-leaning values. But one line on Bell’s political resume is at odds with his promise to champion a progressive agenda. In 2006, Bell managed the campaign of a conservative Republican running for the same seat Bell is seeking today. The candidate, Mark J. Byrne, ran as a fierce abortion opponent and gun rights crusader. “I intend to protect the rights of the unborn,” his campaign website read. “I believe that there is no greater job for elected representatives.”
He ultimately lost to incumbent Rep. William Lacy Clay Jr., who remained in office until Bush successfully challenged him in 2020. “Nearly 20 years ago, Wesley helped a longtime friend by volunteering with his campaign, in spite of their differences in political affiliations and positions on many issues,” said Anjan Mukherjee, a spokesperson for Bell’s campaign. “Wesley has been a progressive prosecutor, working to overturn wrongful convictions and refusing to prosecute women for abortions, and he will be a progressive member of Congress who works with President Biden.” Byrne, who is now a municipal judge in a neighboring county, said Bell ran his campaign as a friendly favor. The two met as young lawyers in St. Louis County, he recalled, and became friends over years of poker nights. “He didn’t run a Republican’s campaign, he ran a friend’s campaign,” Byrne said in an interview this week with HuffPost. “He and I didn’t see eye to eye on political issues, but he did the best that he could to try to help me get elected.”
[...] As of May, Bell has raised more than $65,000 in contributions from donors who normally give to Republicans. They include a former GOP speaker of the Missouri House, the billionaire hedge fund founder Daniel Loeb, and the former finance chair for Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-S.C.) presidential super PAC. At the end of the last fundraising quarter, Bell reported having about twice as much cash on hand as Bush. Bell has also benefited from more than $300,000 in ads paid for by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s super PAC. While AIPAC backs candidates of both parties who support U.S. military assistance for Israel, progressive critics have noted the PAC’s top contributors are GOP megadonors. Bush is one of AIPAC’s top targets in the 2024 elections. “The fact that my ‘Democratic’ opponent’s entrance into politics was managing a Republican congressional campaign for a far-right, anti-abortion extremist is strikingly consistent, and it should tell voters everything they need to know,” Bush said in a statement. “He can’t be trusted to protect our reproductive freedoms and abortion rights, secure our democracy, and stand up to the MAGA Republican extremists in Congress.”
St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell is claiming to run as a progressive to unseat incumbent Rep. Cori Bush (D) in MO-01, but in 2006, he helped manage a GOP campaign for House candidate Mark J. Byrne.

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Elseworlds Addendum - Firestorm
High school student Ronnie Raymond and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Martin Stein were caught in an accident that allowed them to fuse into Firestorm the Nuclear Man. Due to Stein being unconscious during the accident, Raymond was prominently in command of the Firestorm form with Stein a voice of reason inside his mind… able to offer Raymond advice on how to use their powers without actually having any control over their dual form.
The composite being of Firestorm possessed amazing powers, able to fly and fire bolts of energy that had the capacity to rearrange molecular structures of any substance into most anything else, creating different atomic structures of equal mass.  As such he could transform a gun into a bouquet of flowers, a car could be changed into a cloud of gas and so on.  These powers could work on organic beings, but Firestorm almost never used them in this fashion so not to risk accidental harm.
Following a brief solo career as a superhero, Firestorm was recruited into the Justice League and served as a valued member for many years.  Ronnie Raymond perished in battle after which the mantle and powers of Firestorm were passed on to teenager Jason Rusch.  Ronnie would later become resurrected and he and Jason shared the identity of Firestorm.
Sadly, Firestorm was left out of the extended roster of Justice League Unlimited; although the hero did feature in the Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show (voiced by actor Mark L. Taylor) and later in Justice League Action (voiced by actor P. J. Byrne).
The hero first appeared in the pages of Firestorm the Nuclear Man #1 (March 1978).

Heather: "Matt, that super-hero swinging by--! He could almost be Daredevil!" Matt (thinking): "I doubt that, Heather--since I'm Daredevil. On the other hand, whoever our young stalwart is, he's very good..." Iron Fist vol. 1 #11 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, D. Warfield, Dan Adkins, and J. Costanza *(Flash Iron Fist Fact: The two guys creeping on Heather in the background are Marvel writer/editor Roger Stern and Jim Shooter.)
Here's Heather Glenn/Chris Claremont with some pretty incredible thirty-year foreshadowing...
Today (February 19th, 2024) marks the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of Iron Fist/Danny Rand in Marvel Premiere #15! The above page from almost exactly three years later was, though tiny and brief, technically the first crossover between the Iron Fist and Daredevil series. Danny liked Matt almost immediately when they did eventually meet in-person (Matt took a little more time to warm up to Danny, but that's Matt for you), and they would end up becoming close friends--with Danny, as mentioned, even filling in as Daredevil for a little while during the "Civil War" event and in the Brubaker/Lark DD run.

a/n: to commemorate the beginning of october (which his halloween month), i've decided to write this little cute thing! hope you guys like it hehehe
Tumblr media
what they yanderes would wear as halloween costumes
warning: gender neutral reader, absolutely no mentions of reader being a specific gender, mentions of reader being sexy LOL, mentions of costumes that might not conform to reader's gender/crossdressing
Tumblr media
eun-jeong yoo ★ profile
beauty and the beast lmao
eun-jeong would really want to do an animal cosplay with you doing a matching costumes
so like beauty and the beast, werewolf and red riding hood, wolf and sheep, etc etc
he'd be the type to like buy pre-made costumes but then he'll see how badly the pre-made costumes are and do the costumes up a little bit more LOL
he wouldn't do a good job of it but he'd try to make it look better
Tumblr media
liam arieh ★ profile
mans is nothing if not a mythology freak
he'd be the worst date to take to a halloween party becos he'd do some obscure shit and then be a bit annoyed or arrogant when people can't guess who the two of you are dressed up as
think persephone and hades, aphrodite and ares, orpheus and eurydice, achilles and patroclus, pylades and orestes, etc
most people will just guess that you're a greek couple LOL
you could probably convince him do do an angel and devil couple
Tumblr media
gavin byrne ★ profile
no jokes, he'd wanna do those like stereotypically sexy halloween costumes LMAO but like the both of you have to do the same one
like for example: two sexy nurses, two sexy black cats, two sexy demons, etc etc
and it'll be like exactly matching LMAO no matter your gender (if you're comfy), you guys would be wearing female nurse outfits or sexy witch outfits
and the worst part is that like he'd 100% buy them from spirit halloween or the local party store so they're not best quality either
Tumblr media
ayaka yamato ★ profile
would die to be able to do a j-fashion lolita outfit with you LOL
she's always wanted to dress up that way but it's hard to go around in lolita fashion and also it's something that immediately sticks out so she's never done it
but yeah, it has to be something cute and frilly
she'd pay attention to detail a lot and commission some renowned tailor or something to do the outfits
they have to be the same colour scheme so that it's obvious the two of you are matching
Tumblr media
ryuunosuke yamamoto ★ profile
anime couple, anime couple, anime couple--
it can literally be any anime couple you want but it has to be from an anime that both of you have watched together/that both of you really love
he's a professional-level cosplayer so like he'd take over (but will let you help if you really want) and the cosplay will literally turn out so so good
he won't shy away from like armour or mech suit type stuff either
Tumblr media
fujio watanabe ★ profile
won't really wanna dress up but you can force him to LOL
will only wear a costume if the costume is really easy to put on
like it has to be as easy to put on as regular clothes. it has to be something like a shirt, pants, maybe head gear but like nothing too complicated so it has to be either a headband or a hat
so like you're stuck with really boring costumes like cowboy? police man? stuff like that LOL and they'd be the cheap kind you can buy
Tumblr media
gawain byrne ★ profile
vampire, vampire, vampire--
but like not dracula vampire! oh no, it'd be like period specific vampire with the loose white ruffled long sleeve shirts and tight pants LMAO
very victorian gothic style
and you have to also wear victorian gothic style. you don't have to be a vampire tho but i think gawain would just have a lot of fun putting on fangs hehehe
he'd want your costume to include like two red puncture marks tho LOL to signal that you're his vampiric snack
Tumblr media
ryouta watanabe ★ profile
not to be repetitive but like video game couple, video game couple, video game couple--
would totally dress up as mario and princess peach or luigi and bowser if you'd like LOL
as long as it's like a video game that both of you love to play
he'll also do a cosplay of more detailed outfits like something from league of legends or overwatch or valorant
he's also a seasoned cosplayer so it'd be easy peasy for him to make a cosplay for both you and him
Tumblr media
yeong-bae kigal ★ profile
GOD I KNOW I JUST SAID IT BUT video game couple, video game couple--
but yeong-bae would want it to be a bit more cutesy? so definitely like cookie run cookies, pokemon?, mario characters? something like that
would shy away a little from more complicated outfits like mech armour or video game outfits from more fight-y games. not becos he doesn't like them but becos they really want to look adorable and cute with you LOL
yeong-bae is literally in charge of a lot of the outfits the band wears so like he'd be really great with making the halloween outfits
he wouldn't be professional level though and he'd ask a little help from their stylist
Tumblr media
soren kumar ★ profile
BORING BITCH
he'd wanna do something work related or uniform related lmao like a police couple or like a nurse and doctor? it definitely would be the type of outfits that are readily available and would be low effort for him
also low-key just wants to see you in uniform LMAO not that it's a kink or anything but just that he thinks it'd be sexy
and it's very! heteronormative! nasty man! he'd wear the man police uniform and (regardless of gender) he'd want you to wear the woman police uniform (cus it's sexier!!), etc etc
you can definitely argue with him abt it loool and he'll relent
would get them from spirit halloween or some cheap store though
Tumblr media
emm fiala ★ profile
would want to dress up as something where she can utilize her burns. think freddy kreuger, jason, deadpool, frankenstein's monster
would want you to be her victim if she dresses up as a slasher or maybe be the spiderman to her deadpool? or even better, be the bride to her frankenstein's monster?
she'd definitely be all over you, doting on you, if you decide to dress up as her bride LOL and then you, casimir and her can be a trio! (frankenstein, his monster and his monster's bride!!)
would want to be more hands-on with the harder stuff of the costume like masks or weaponry but is absolutely useless when it comes to finer detailing like sewing together the clothes
Tumblr media
casimir fiala ★ profile
desperately wants to dress up as a mad scientist LMAO just becos he already has the lab coat right so might as well?
would love for you to dress up as his deranged patient or as frankenstein's monster? or as his science experiment?
the outfits would be very home made but casimir is good enough and sewing. he's also very resourceful about things and can figure out how to make a decent enough costume
Tumblr media
mel lowell ★ profile
honestly would want to be a wolf and something else couple LOL and no, the irony does not escape him
so something like wolf and red riding hood, wolf and pigs, wolf and sheep, etc etc
would buy the costumes becos he can't really control his shift enough to not freak people out if the two of you go to a party or something
he'd definitely buy online though and he'd make sure they costumes are really durable and can last a long time just in case the two of you want to save them for something else? or for next year
Tumblr media
isamu lowell ★ profile
doesn't wanna dress up LOL but not becos he doesn't like halloween! it's becos he wants to go as himself for halloween
unlike mel, he's very eager to just go as a werewolf!
but, like mel, he wants to do a wolf and something else kind of cosplay! honestly, at this point, you might just become three wolves and a lowly sheep group cosplay LOL
like i said before, he won't need to really buy his outfit just becos he'll transform into it LOL but, for your outfit, he'd want it to be the highest quality he can get his hands on becos he wants you to be comfy
Tumblr media
leonard lowell ★ profile
honestly, leonard wants to go with the flow so whatever you want! but be warned that he'll be very critical of the outfits LOL
the costume has to be high quality and, if it's not, he'll nag you or just take the costumes and try to do them up a little bit so they're more comfortable
he'd be willing to do a wolf cosplay if you want to go with whatever the other wolves want LOL but he'd be like a very anime-fied sexy werewolf, yknow what i mean?
might even throw in a thick leather collar in there to be extra sexy LOL

Starring: Colin Firth, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Wilkinson, Judy Parfitt Directed By: Peter Webber
FREE FIRE (2016) 70% #13 Critics Consensus: Free Fire aims squarely for genre thrills, and hits its target repeatedly and with great gusto -- albeit with something less than pure cinematic grace. Synopsis: When a black-market arms deal goes outrageously wrong, Justine finds herself caught in the crossfire, forced to navigate through... Starring: Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy Directed By: Ben Wheatley

ANTHROPOID (2016) 67% #16 Critics Consensus: Anthropoid completes its mission rather unevenly but delivers a historically illuminating story with great performances to back it up. Synopsis: In December 1941, two Czech soldiers (Cillian Murphy, Jamie Dornan) parachute into their occupied homeland to assassinate Nazi officer Reinhard... By Scott RitterSpecial to Consortium News
On June 18, 1945, President Harry Truman, who had taken over the presidency in April 1945 following the death of Franklin Roosevelt, convened a meeting in the White House cabinet room of his top military and diplomatic advisers to discuss the endgame strategy for defeating Japan.
Nazi Germany had surrendered in early May, and Truman was now dealing with the realities which accrued from that event. Under pressure from Congress, the U.S. had demobilized more than 450,000 soldiers in Europe, sending them home even as Truman wrestled with the probability of more than 260,000 U.S. casualties should he order the invasion of the southern Japanese island of Kyushu, part of the Japanese homeland (incredibly, Congress also authorized the demobilization of 30,000 troops in the Pacific, even though the war with Japan was far from over.)
In short, America’s appetite for war was waning.
Truman also had to deal with the issue of the victorious Soviet Red Army, which had played the leading role in defeating Nazi Germany and, as a result, now occupied all eastern Europe and half of Germany, including its capital, Berlin.
Ignoring the fact that the Soviet Union and its leader, Joseph Stalin, were exhausted by a war that had destroyed a third of its industry and killed more than 27 million of its citizens and, as such, were looking for peace, not a new war with the West, Truman fell under the sway of his closest advisers, including his choice to be secretary of state, James Byrnes, who viewed the Soviets as a threat that had to be contained and, if necessary, confronted by U.S. military power in the post-war period.
How to square the need to simultaneously defeat Japan, deal with the increasing political pressure to demobilize, and present a strong military posture to the Soviet Union was one of the more pressing challenges facing Truman and the men he had gathered in the White House cabinet room.
The answer lay in the atomic bomb — J. Robert Oppenheimer’s “gadget ”— which was, at the time of the June 18 meeting, being prepared for testing in the badlands of New Mexico.
