Halaqat - in Arabic means multiple links and circles – aims to strengthen entanglements and build bridges between both regions. Diverse voices of emerging and renowned artists, cultural actors and experts are brought together to approach a number of themes from their own perspective.

From dance, projections, reflexions, mirrors, shadows, bodies, movements, Logos to analyzing how chess games played irl or against an AI could make us graciously and fiercly draw our path through the Illusion and our emotions.

Sublime moments and Beauty shared by amazingly talented Human Beings.

9 artists from the Arab world and Europe - choreographers, performers and sound designers - explore with the Halaqat theme of Politics of Spaces and Bodies.

Over the course of six weeks, spread over two periods, the artists are invited to Brussels to exchange, explore their body language, and perform. Their artistic proposals bring a rich range of contemporary artistic practices, and offer a new space of togetherness, where the intimate, and the political are highly interconnected. Their performances transgress the realities at the crossroads of multiple disciplines to open up new futures perspectives.

Names of Palestinian children killed in Gaza

As the Israeli siege of Gaza enters its seventeenth day, there have been 695 Palestinian deaths of which 166 were children. 

Here are the names and ages of 132 Palestinian children killed by the Israeli army between July 7 and July 21 in chronological order.

Nota penyusun: Artikel ini disiarkan pada 7 Mei, 2018 iaitu dua hari sebelum PRU14 yang menyaksikan kekalahan teruk Umno-BN di bawah pimpinan Najib di tangan gandingan Tun Dr Mahathir dan Anwar Ibrahim.

Dua era perdana menteri Umno yang tidak popular di kalangan rakyat khususnya orang Melayu. Pertama era Perdana Menteri Pertama Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj dan kedua era Perdana Menteri Keenam, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Tunku disayangi rakyat sebagai bapa kemerdekaan yang mengasaskan dasar kemajuan dan kemakmuran negara yang tercapai dalam masa yang singkat sehingga beliau mengisytiharkan dirinya sebagai PM yang paling gembira di dunia pada tahun 1959.

Namun 10 tahun kemudiannya rakyat terutama orang Melayu mulai resah dengan kepimpinannya yang keterlaluan bertolak ansur kepada MCA dan orang China dengan bersikap “tidak apa” terhadap desakan bangsa Melayu.

Walaupun orang Melayu hilang keyakinan kepada Tunku tetapi tidak hilang keyakinan kepada Umno kerana mempunyai ramai barisan pelapis yang berkredebiliti tinggi. Bila Tunku berundur secara terhormat, orang Melayu memberikan keyakinan kepada Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.

Beliau dengan pantas mengembalikan keyakinan orang Melayu kepada kerajaan dan juga memantapkan perpaduan kaum yang lebih besar di bawah BN.

Bagaimanapun hilang keyakinan kepada Najib menjadi luka tidak sahaja kepadanya tetapi turut mencedera parahkan Umno pada keseluruhannya.

Ini kerana beliau tidak mahu berundur secara terhormat seperti Tunku walaupun lukanya telah menjadi cabuk busuk kerana terdedah dari dalam.

Sekarang orang Melayu tidak sahaja hilang kepercayaan kepada Najib tetapi juga kepada Umno, tidak seperti era Tunku keyakinan hilang hanya kepada Tunku.

Kehilangan keyakinan ini lebih sukar untuk diatasi kerana rakyat tidak nampak dengan jelas siapakah layak untuk menggantikannya.

Berbanding dengan era Tunku, rakyat tidak bimbang dengan pengundurannya kerana Umno mempunyai ramai lagi pemimpin pelapis yang berkebolehan dan kuat untuk mengambilalih.

Selain dari Razak, mereka ialah Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, Tun Hussein Onn, Dr Mahathir Mohamad dan Datuk Harun Idris.

Dalam keadaan yang penuh cabaran, sebagai wira Bugis, Najib terus mempertahankan dirinya dalam politik, keselamatan dan juga ekonomi negara di samping berhempas pulas membersihkan imejnya berkaitan dengan 1MDB dan juga wang RM2.6 bilion yang disalurkan ke dalam akaun bank peribadinya.

Keadaan ekonomi negara diuruskan oleh Najib tidaklah jatuh “ke taraf terlalu teruk”. Rakyat dikatakan masih mampu membeli belah, memenuhi kedai-kedai mamak, melancong keluar negara tetapi perlahan-lahan keyakinan rakyat terhakis kepada kepimpinannya.

Apa yang berlaku ialah trust deficit – rakyat hilang keyakinan kepada “kemantapan dan kebersihan pimpinan” Najib.

Semuanya adalah berpunca dari pengurusan maklumat yang tidak bijaksana dan tidak profesional dari awal. Dana RM2.6 billion datang dari pebagai punca walaupun mulanya diisytiharkan adalah derma Arab, pemulihan 1MDB sema sekali tidak menarik minat rakyat yang membuat kesimpulan ia adalah satu penipuan.

Gaya hidup mewah

Penyingkiran Timbalan Perdana Menteri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin pada 2016 dianggap sebagai hendak menyembunyikan pekara sebenar mengenainya.

Isteri Najib, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor pula dilihat tidak sensitif kepada perasaan rakyat yang tidak senang dengan gaya kehidupan mewahnya dan juga kehidupan anaknya di luar negara yang dikaitkan dengan 1MDB dengan pembikinan filem dan pembelian harta.

Masalah yang dihadapi oleh Najib yang akan membawa kepada kejatuhannya dalam sehari dua lagi ialah trust deficit walaupun beliau tidak menjadikan rakyat peminta sedekah dan ekonomi negara hancur malah ada juga kemajuannya.

Keadaan yang dihadapi oleh Najib sama dengan keadaan yang dihadapi oleh presiden kedua Indonesia Suharto yang memberikan kemakmuran kepada rakyat selepas menjatuhkan Soekarno tetapi rakyat tidak berterima kasih kepadanya.

Saya bersyukur kepada Allah kerana saya dapat melihat dua era pemerintahan Indonesia dalam masa singkat iaitu saat-saat zaman Sukarno, presiden pertama republik itu berada diambang kejatuhannya.

Akhirnya dijatuhkan

Saya melihat kemiskinan yang tidak ada taranya di Jakarta dan Bandung dengan anak-anak yang bergelimpangan tidur di tepi-tepi jalan dan mengutip makanan buangan dari tong-tong sampah.

Bagaimanapun tidak lama selepas Suharto mengambil alih pemeritahan negara, Indonesia memasuki zaman pembangunan yang mantap dengan makanan rakyat terjamin, pembangunan pertanian berlaku di luar bandar, kedai-kedai penuh dengan barangan makanan dan lain-lain keperluan harian dan gerai-gerai makanan tumbuh di sana sini.

Jenayah berjaya dikurangkan.Wartawan-wartawan mulai mampu bermotosikal dan mempunyai mesin taip.

Bagaimanapun kestabilan ini tidak kekal lama bila cerita-cerita mengenai kemewahan hidup anak isteri Suharto terdedah dan mulai dipercayai rakyat, keluargnya juga memiliki harta dan wang yang banyak, majlis-majlis perkahwinan anak-anak mereka mencerminkan perbelanjaan yang begitu tinggi.

Akhirnya Suharto hilang kepercayaan rakyat. Kediktatorannya tidak lagi boleh mengawal kebangkitan rakyat. Beliau dijatuhkan malah beliau tidak mendapat simpati rakyat sekalipun dalam keadaan sakit.

Tuduhan-tuduhan penyalahgunaan kuasa terus dihadapkan kepadanya oleh pihak Pengadilan walaupun berada di hospital.

Bila hal ini berlaku saya merasa amat sedih kerana saya dapat membezakan antara zaman Sukarno dengan zaman Suharto yang tidak dapat dinilai oleh generasi baru.

Saya cuba meyakinkan pemandu teksi saya di Jakarta tentang zaman sekarang yang lebih baik tetapi dia tidak peduli sebaliknya terus bercerita tentang keburukan Suharto.

Inilah yang dihadapi oleh Najib sekarang sekalipun banyak sumbangan yang diberikan kepada rakyat kerana kepercayaan cash is king.

Beliau percaya undi dan juga keyakinan rakyat boleh dibeli dengan wang dan lain-lain pemberian seperti BRIM, wang kepada pemandu teksi dan kepada mereka yang hadir di majlis-majlis Umno.

Namun hakikatnya mereka ini tidak lupa GST mengecilkan pendapatan mereka, harga minyak naik turun dan barangan semakin mahal.

Hina orang tua yang berjasa

Najib menjanjikan masa depan yang tidak pasti.

Mereka tidak terpesona dengan janji ratusan ribu peluang pekerjaan di masa depan kerana anak-anak mereka memerlukan pekerjaan sekarang juga.

Dan lebih dari itu mereka ingat seorang tua yang sekarang berumur 93 tahun, di eranya menjadi perdana menteri, mereka hidup makmur dengan penuh keyakinan terhadap masa depan.

Mereka bangun pagi tanpa bimbang terhadap masa depan anak dan cucu cicit mereka. Setiap hari beliau melakukan sesuatu yang membina maruah bangsa dan agama. Mereka yakin dan bangga dengan slogan Malaysia Boleh kerana banyak telah dibuktikan oleh orang tua ini.

Dan sekarang mereka sedih kerana orang tua yang berjasa besar ini dihina dengan sehina-hinanya tetapi mereka masih yakin beliau boleh kembali membawa negara ini kembali bermaruah demi bangsa dan agama.

Halaqat - Politics of Spaces and Bodies.

Halaqat - in Arabic means multiple links and circles – aims to strengthen entanglements and build bridges between both regions. Diverse voices of emerging and renowned artists, cultural actors and experts are brought together to approach a number of themes from their own perspective.

From dance, projections, reflexions, mirrors, shadows, bodies, movements, Logos to analyzing how chess games played irl or against an AI could make us graciously and fiercly draw our path through the Illusion and our emotions.

Sublime moments and Beauty shared by amazingly talented Human Beings.

9 artists from the Arab world and Europe - choreographers, performers and sound designers - explore with the Halaqat theme of Politics of Spaces and Bodies.

Over the course of six weeks, spread over two periods, the artists are invited to Brussels to exchange, explore their body language, and perform. Their artistic proposals bring a rich range of contemporary artistic practices, and offer a new space of togetherness, where the intimate, and the political are highly interconnected. Their performances transgress the realities at the crossroads of multiple disciplines to open up new futures perspectives.

FR ― 9 artistes du monde arabe et d’Europe - chorégraphes, artistes et concepteurs sonores - explorent avec Halaqat le thème de la Politique des espaces et des corps.

Pendant six semaines, réparties sur deux périodes, les artistes sont invités à Bruxelles pour échanger, explorer leur langage corporel et se produire sur scène. Leurs propositions artistiques apportent un riche éventail de pratiques artistiques contemporaines, et offrent un nouvel espace de convivialité, où l’intime et le politique sont fortement interconnectés. Leurs performances transgressent les réalités au carrefour de multiples disciplines pour ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives d’avenir.
