Venus de Milo's Design and Backstory
I have two other designs for this au and they can both be found here.
I have less to say about Venus because she isnât a major character (yet?) but I wanted to share her design since it's one of my favorites.
Mei Pieh Chan is an elderly woman who lives in one of the ground floor apartments of the same complex as the other human characters (April, Casey, etc). Sheâs kind and compassionate if stoic and generally hardened by life. While she interacts frequently with her neighbors, none of them know as much about her as they think they do.
In her youth, the now disguised yokai woman was a witch from an old family of kappa on her motherâs side and jin chan on her fatherâs. Her specialty was in illusion although she dabbles in coin-based divination and healing.
As an adult she would become the first really famous Battle Nexus Champion, under the name âVenusâ. During her decades long career, her only loss to date was against an up and rising star, who cut off her arms and âkilled herâ in a seemingly impossible feat of human mystic ability. This fight spread many rumors and theories as to whether or not Venus died.
She left the Battle Nexus in secret (at least from the public) due to the injury and, after time to heal and adjust, she performed as a human magician in the city under the name âVenus de Magicâ, using her skill in illusions for her own benefit.
Now that she has allowed her career to slow to a stop, she spends her time dabbling in different elements of the spiritual while truly expanding her mystic prowess. Her home is filled with her own and othersâ art, antiques, and fineries. None of her neighbors know about her past and she would rather keep it that way, helping them and providing advice.

Spoilers For All of Arcane
Pivotal Moments For Vi
I am continuing to cope with the end of the show by doing some lists of what I feel are the most pivotal moments for some of the main characters, in terms of showing us who they are/just leaving a huge impression. Starting off with out favorite pink haired bad-ass.
Vi-
The Bridge of Progress:
This one is fairly self-explanatory, but the haunted look on Vi's face seeing her dead mother in the middle of this fiery hellscape, tells us what we need to know. The writers tell us Vi is 14-16 years old from beginning to end of season 1, act 1. So at 14 years old she is here, holding her little sisters hand seeing their entire world come undone surrounded by violence.. and still holding on to her sister.
2. Vander's lessons:
"When people look up to you, you don't get to be selfish". I know that's not the exact conversation at this moment but its essentially what Vander's lessons boil down to, and they become such a fundamental part of Vi's personality it is bordering on a character flaw. All that matters is doing right by those she feels responsible for. Damn the consequences to her body/mind/soul.
3. Trying to turn herself in:
*disclaimer I know this gif isn't that moment, couldn't find it*
As I said above. Vi is at most 16 years old here and that is per the writers. I have EXPOUNDED AT LENGTH on how the events of this story, especially in these early days are not Vi's fault. But at only sixteen, after speaking with Vander about responsibility Vi tries to turn herself in to the enforcers for the sake of her friends, her family, and her fellow Zaunites. Brave and selfless even then.
4. Loss of Family:
After already losing her birth parents when she was even younger, Vi and Powder are given a second chance in Vander, Milo and Clagger. That is until Vi is forced to watch her brothers die violently, and kneel in the street over her fathers body, all seemingly seconds from them succeeding in Vander's rescue. This coupled with the effect of her separation from Powder has such a powerful effect on Vi's life the effects cannot be overstated. That guilt and loss forming the guarded and guilt stricken young woman we meet in Act 2.
5. Meeting Caitlyn:
Vi meeting Caitlyn is the catalyst for Vi moving forward in her life. Obviously her story is much more involved than that. But when they meet, Vi has been in prison for years. Her whole life stolen from her and stalled by Marcus. Her sister is a different person, her family is gone, and she has had to survive seven years on her own without love, or kindness, or joy. Now along comes this nervous, kind of dorky naĂŻve woman in the uniform embodying the oppression of Vi's childhood, and she breaks her out and shows her a way to live again.
Reuniting with Powder/Jinx:
By the time Vi finally achieves her dream and finds Powder, she is plenty aware her home has changed. But the entire time, she has held on to the hope and dream that her sister is still there. That they can go back to a semblance of who they were.. and In true-to-form heartbreaking fashion, we see Vi forced to confront the reality that while life has beaten her down and changed her, it did not spare her sister either. The thing of note for who Vi is though, is that even as Jinx is lamenting how she has changed, and the things she has done, Vi supports and loves her. She does not turn away from her at this point. She is taken from her.
Saving Caitlyn:
The time comes that Caitlyn and Echo are going into Piltover, in the hope of proving to the council that Silco and Jinx are responsible for what has occurred. It is quite clear by now Vi and Caitlyn have feelings for each other, but even still Vi is going to stay behind and keep looking for her sister. It is only when Caitlyn and Echo's lives are threatened that Vi runs back into the fray, even risking her life for Caitlyn when its clear that Jinx is the threat. This is one small step of Vi's evolution but an important one.
The Dinner Party:
This event is the breaking point of Vi's belief that she can save "Powder". Now we as the audience know that the sisters find peace with each-other by the end, with Vi seemingly accepting Jinx for who she has become, and Jinx finding her way out of her inner darkness. But this incident forces Vi to come face-to-face with the darkness that has consumed Powder, marking a notable shift in the sisters relationship and tearing away more of Vi's hope to restore her family. This whole incident is heartbreaking for many reasons but in terms of Vi, its like we are watching her hang from a cliffside and someone is slowly prying her fingers away from the ledge
Putting On The Uniform:
I and many others have discussed Vi putting on the uniform in great detail across various sources. I have seen many accuse Vi of betraying her people, betraying her parents. I believe that is far too simplistic. This is an act of desperation. Its important to remember the following:
At this point Vi is afraid her sister is too far gone
Caitlyn (the woman Vi loves) has confided in Vi that she is afraid if she hunts Jinx without Vi, that Cait or Jinx will kill the other.
Piltover retaliation against the undercity is happening with or without Vi's help.
By going, she has a chance to keep Caitlyn safe, and even though she is conflicted about how to handle her sister, she will at least be there for whatever happens.
Ultimately what does this all boil down to? "When people look up to you, you don't get to be selfish". Vi is literally putting on the symbol of her parents murder to be there for the people that count on her
The Doomed Promise:
Here we get one of the rare but much appreciated glimpses behind the curtain of Stoicism and determination Vi always keeps up. She tearfully admits to Caitlyn she thinks her sister is beyond help, and begs the woman she loves not to be lost to the darkness in her because Vi has literally lost everyone else. We all cheered when they kissed for the first time. But I think we all knew what was coming as well.
The Breakup (AKA THE GIANT MIDDLE FINGER TO OUR SOULS):
Just following this post alone I have detailed how Vi has every ounce of happiness taken from her a piece at a time, until Caitlyn. Caitlyn even as an enforcer is the bright spot in Vi's life. She brings love, and hope, and a tenderness Vi has never known. She is certainly the only enforcer to ever treat her with kindness. But this is a harsh and complicated world. Vi has fought and bled trying to save her sister and at this point, has failed. Her birth parents, her adoptive father and brothers are all dead and gone. So when Caitlyn, who only earlier the same day had kissed her for the first time, and promised her she wouldn't lose herself to her grief risks the life of a child, tells Vi she is no different than the woman WHO KILLED CAITLYN"S MOTHER, and hits Vi, its the straw that breaks the camel's back
Pitfighter:
Okay, putting aside how insanely attractive she is, this is actually HEARTBREAKING. Vi has lost everything, and everyone. We are seeing her leached of color and life. I re-blogged a post explaining in-depth how this is far more than "because of a woman" that i recommend reading as they did a great job covering it. So what I'll say here is that Caitlyn betraying Vi in that way broke her to such a degree that she has finally stopped fighting to live.. She is clearly on the path to self-destruct, and does not care anymore
Trusting Jinx/Finding Vander:
Needless to say Vi is not in a good place when Jinx comes knocking, asking her to believe that their long dead father has actually returned in the form of a wolf like monstrosity. Vi is aggressive, drinking heavily, fighting to the point she is losing (risking her own safety), and self-destructing. So it is not a shock that she responds badly when Jinx comes. But this whole episode (although like everything else this season it was rushed) shows us the Vi we know and love is still in there. She doesn't hesitate to throw herself in between Vander and Isha. and even though it would mean her certain death if Jinx is wrong, when Jinx begs her sister to believe her Vi lowers her gauntlets and the image you see above is the result. Even with all the anger, and guilt, and blame between them Vi immediately calls her sister into the hug. Even at her lowest point, Vi still believes in their family.
Reunited with Caitlyn:
First of all, #JusticeforVi! No way Cait takes her down when Vi is at her best haha. But this matters for obvious reasons. Vi is not who she was when Caitlyn broke her heart, neither is Caitlyn. But as I said previously, the Vi we know is still in there. That hope, that love, that unquenchable flame. There are OBVIOUSLY still issues to work out between them. But Vi trust Caitlyn with the truth.. and calls her cupcake.
Loss of Vander/Protecting Jinx:
My god this episode.. Only a short time after getting him back, Vi has to watch Vander lose himself to the beast inside. And in spectacularly horrifying fashion, watching him erupt in lava?blood? while being speared and attacked by Noxian soldiers. The look of horror on Vi's face is heartbreaking when we were treated to one of her rare smiles only seconds before. This just adds to the long list of trauma/pain she has gone through and is important to remember for the conclusion of the story. But the other part of this, is that even in the midst of that crushing pain. Vi still sacrifices herself to protect her little sister. Thankfully, she lives. But she had no way to know she would when she throws herself over Jinx on the ground.
Never Give up:
Vi wakes up. She has barely recovered from a bad injury saving her sister and finds out Jinx has been imprisoned. Recognizing all the changes Jinx has been through, Vi defends her. Insisting she has changed. And even says "Who decides who gets a second chance" to Caitlyn in defense of her sister. Vi then goes and tries to break jinx out. She still believes in her. Still fights for her. Still loves her. Now there are a few more nuanced important things to keep in mind here-
Jinx says "your really never gonna give up on me". I mentioned earlier Vi's willingness to sacrifice herself for her loved ones, to put herself in bad situations and disregard her own happiness can go beyond selfless and into a disregard for herself completely. Jinx leaving Vi in the cell is a huge moment. its the moment Vi realizes that no matter how badly she wants to help her sister, YOU CANT SAVE EVERYONE. I had a lovely discussion with another user recently about this. For anyone who has ever had an addict in your life. You can't force them to get better. No matter how much you love them, how much you beg and plead and fight and scream, sometimes you just aren't the one to get it done. And that's a really hard thing to accept.
Accepting Love:
So obviously this was a HUGE moment for all kinds of reasons but sticking with Vi's character, I'm focusing on two specific ones:
"I choose wrong every time and because of it, I have lost everyone"- First of all, Caitlyn's want of Vi and love and and affection is on a very basic level proof she hasn't lost everyone. But it's more than that. Caitlyn is validating V,i and Vi's choices. She knew Vi was going to come for Jinx and is not only okay with it, she cleared the way. Vi feels seen, and loved, and accepted by the woman she loves. The importance of that cannot be overstated for a character who feels like she has no one left in her corner
2. Vi chooses happiness: I have seen commentary to the tune of "Jinx was clearly in crisis Vi should have gone after her" or "Really in the cell her sister was rotting in?!" To that, I would say this. Say Vi chased after her, why? To what purpose? As i said earlier, one of the hardest things to learn is that you can't save everyone no matter how much you love them. There is every likelihood Vi and Caitlyn will die tomorrow. So she could spend what could be her last night alive hunting Jinx in the undercity ,and if she finds her trying to coax her back. But we are shown clearly that that is not what Jinx or Vi need. Jinx tells Vi to be happy, to be with Caitlyn and stop feeling guilty.
This show maintains strong thematic continuity through parallels, with Its closest characters often learning similar lessons. Both Vi and Jinx have to learn to stop "Running in Circles". So that being said, what are we left with when Jinx is gone?:
Vi is face to face with the woman she loves. The woman who despite hurting her, immediately signed on to save Vander even knowing what betraying Ambessa would mean. Who was angry but didn't move to hurt Jinx at the commune, who saved Vi when she was hurt, who didn't arrest Jinx, and who cleared the way for jinx to go free since that's what Vi really wanted. So Vi lets herself have this. She lets herself be happy with the woman she loves. its beautiful and intimate and a culmination of these two characters relationship long in the making, no matter where they are
Loss of Vander/Jinx:
To those who continue to suggest Vi is guilty for Jinx's death (not dead), I encourage you to search your humanity. I have discussed it in this post as well as several others now, but lets run down the barebones trauma checklist one more time:
Vi is in her early twenties
Watches her birth parents die
Watches her brothers die
Watches Vander die the first time, during an incident Vi barely survived herself
Thrown in a cold and dark prison for seven years to be abused and terrorized and assaulted
Stabbed, beaten and hunted in the mission to save her little sister who has become dangerous and unstable
Little sister almost kills her
Little sisters kills her girlfriend's (i know they weren't really dating yet just keeps things simpler) mother
Willingly dons enforcer uniform to protect Caitlyn only to be assaulted and abandoned
Lives at least a few months in a self-destructive spiral being beaten and drinking heavily
Gets her dad and sister back even if dad is in a monstrous wolf body
Has to say goodbye to Dad as he seemingly dies in a horrifying manner
Survives the horror of that last battle
Watches Dad die again
Simply put. She had enough. The best I ever heard trauma described was that your mind is a cup, and eventually your cup runs over. Its clichĂŠ and used in movies and tv shows all the time but that's because its simple and its clear. Vi just cannot take any more.. and we see it.. she is seeing vander die all over again that very first time, crying and cradling his head. And when he attacks her Vi, who hasn't backed down from a fight since the first time we see her is left crawling back pleading with him to stop. She just shuts down. So yes, if you go out of your way to aggressively ignore nuance/context/story telling you can simply say its Vi's fault.. I hope you do not. You are cheating yourself out of the full weight of this heartbreaking and inspiring story.
The Dirt Under Your Nails:
This is quite possibly the last time we will see Vi outside of the game if Riot is to be believed. I hope not, but I would understand it. Vi is the warrior who has found peace. She is not untouched. She has lost so much, been wounded many times over in ways that will likely never fully heal. She has the love of her life but even she is permanently altered from all they have been through. And at the end of it all, even though Jinx's sacrifice for Vi was beautiful, and heroic, and a stunning moment for Jinx's character, it hurts to know that is more guilt Vi doesn't deserve but will likely carry forever, if she never learns Jinx is alive. For the people saying Vi seems too happy or she doesn't care, she is sitting alone drinking when we find her singing Powder's song. I have said it in several posts and stand by it. This is not happily ever after for Vi, not quite yet. But because of her unending strength, loyalty and love. And because of the people who have loved and respected her and helped her become the woman she is today, I think Vi has found the path to Happily ever after.
To those who read this I appreciate you. I know I have gone on-and-on about Vi. I want to do this with Jinx and Caitlyn as well. As i have said, interacting with this fan-base and sharing our love for this incredible work has been a real positive force for me as a person and I appreciate each of you.

Hooked On A Feeling
Chapter Twenty-Four - Milo's Birthday
Daniel is a Formula One driver, but, more importantly, he was a single dad to a wonderful little girl. He wants her to be a normal little girl, to have a normal social life, so he sends her to daycare. That was where she met Milo, her future best friend.
Milo's mother was incredibly stressed. She worked so hard to provide a good life for her son. But then he makes a new friend, a friend who has a hot dad (ofc they fall in love)

Single Dad!Daniel x Single Mum!Reader
Series Masterlist
That night, the night after her run in with Kerry-Ann, she found herself at the kitchen table. Her old, beaten up laptop sat open in front of her and she typed away, writing her story.
She hadn't opened her laptop since their Monaco trip. A small glass on wine sat on the placemat beside her laptop. She brought it to her lips, finishing off the glass before she put it back down and returned to her writing.
"Momma?"
Her head snapped towards the door. "Munchkin, what're you doing up?" She asked as she saved her work and closed her laptop (every time she did, it was a wonder whether it would turn back on again).
Milo slipped into the seat opposite her, sitting on his hands. He rocked gently from side to side as he looked at his mother. "My bed at Danny's house is comfier," he muttered. It wasn't Milo's bed, just the bed in the guest bedroom that had been decorated with enough stuffed toys that the bed beneath was barely visible.
But it might has well have been Milo's bed.
"He'll be back soon, munchkin," she said and pushed her laptop away. "I miss him and Olivia, too."
Leaving her laptop on the table, she put her glass in the sink with the rest of the dishes and waited for Milo to stand up. Together, they headed back upstairs. She tucked Milo in and headed to her own bedroom.
It was the middle of the day in whichever part of the world Daniel was in. She called him, holding the phone to her ear as she called him.
It didn't take Daniel very long to pick up. The moment she heard his voice, she couldn't hide the elation she was filled with. Not that she had anybody to hide it from.
"Hey, honey," he said. Daniel sat outside of the AlphaTauri hospitality unit, coffee in front of him.
"Hi, Danny," she said quietly. "I miss you."
"I miss you, too," He replied.
She didn't want to bring up her unpleasant encounter with Kerry-Ann. Not yet, anyway. They talked, talked about how the Grand Prix weekend was going, talked about how Milo had been enjoying school since he left
"He misses you, too," she said to him, and Daniel chucked. There was nothing she could have said to him that would have made him happier. "Danny, we need to talk about something."
From across the world, she couldn't see as his face fell. "What's the matter? Did something happen? Is it Olivia?"
"No, no," she said quickly. "No, Danny. I had a run in with Kerry-Ann earlier. And I know it's stupid, I know she was just trying to get into my head, but I can't stop thinking about what she said to me."
"What did she say to you?" He asked. He had sat up straighter in his seat, his posture tense.
She sucked in a breath. "First she... she accused me of being with you for your money. Which, I swear I'm not interested in you for money, Danny. I love the person you are inside, I swear."
"It's okay, sweets. I know. She was the one with me for my money, not you. I know you're not." He let out a breath. "What else did she say?"
Guilt ran through her. She knew this bit wasn't true, either. She knew how Daniel felt about her. But still, she hadn't been able to stop thinking about it. "She said that you don't love me," she said. "She said that you won't ever love me."
Silence. That was maybe the worst thing he could have done. Daniel said nothing. He didn't say a single thing to her for a good minute. Oh God, she was going to throw up.
But then Daniel let out a breath. "I did love Kerry-Ann. I loved her enough to have a child about her. But she showed who she really was after Olivia was born. I can't love someone that awful. She's got it in head that it's impossible I don't love her. So she thinks I can't love."
He paused, giving her a second to soak it in. "She's wrong, though. She thinks I can't love, but I love you so much that sometimes, I don't understand how it's possible. I don't understand how I can be so in love with another human being. But I am. I'm in love with you and I can't wait to buy you a ring."
She couldn't stop herself from gasping. "You don't mean that."
"Fuck, baby, I do. I've been gone a day and I just can't stop thinking about you. I know it might be soon but I can't help but dream about a future with you."
She couldn't stop herself from crying, sobs muffled by her pillow. "I can't wait for you to come home," she said through her cries.
Now, their reunion after the Grand Prix weekend was exactly what you'd think it would be. It was sweet and loving. Daniel took the four of them out for dinner and then, well, he didn't let her out of bed very much after that.
The next two months were bliss. Pure bliss.
With every Grand Prix that went by, things got a little easier. Nothing Kerry-Ann said could affect her, not when she knew how much Daniel loved her.
But then they ran into a bump. Daniel hadn't thought to ask when Milo's birthday was. But they were coming up to a year ad still, Milo hadn't celebrated his sixth birthday yet.
But then, a few weeks before the Vegas Grand Prix, she started coming home with presents. She snuck them into the house and hid them under the bed they shared.
"What's this?" He asked, watching the third time she pushed a toy beneath the bed.
She sat up and dusted off her hands. "Presents. For Milo's birthday."
Daniel moved closer to her. "Honey, when is Milo's birthday?" He asked. He had several Grand Prix coming up; he just had to hope that Milo's birthday didnât fall on one of those weekends.
"23rd," she answered.
"What, November?"
"November."
"Fuck!" Daniel couldn't stop himself, couldn't stop the words escaping his lips. "Shit, baby. I'm in Vegas that weekend." His head fell against his shoulder and he let out a huff. "I'm gonna get him something good, I promise."
She ran her fingers through his curls. "I know you will, Danny," she said and kissed his forehead.
"I'll arrange for a party, too. And then we can do some when I'm back."
That was exactly how Daniel spent the next few weeks, planning and arranging Milo's birthday. Just like Olivia's birthday, he arranged for a custom made cake. There was a bouncy castle, a magician and more. Daniel was going to do whatever he could to give Milo the best birthday ever.
Milos birthday came around and Daniel wasn't there. Milo said he understood, but everybody could tell just how upset he was. Even more so when Kerry-Ann refused to bring Olivia to the party.
He spent most of his party in his bedroom. The bouncy castle, the custom made cake, the magician. He wanted none of it if his family wasn't all there together.
So Milo didn't enjoy his birthday on the day he turned six. He missed Daniel, he missed Olivia, enjoying it was near impossible. But he did enjoy the cake, the dinosaur cake Daniel had gotten for him.
Daniel was home the next day. He picked Olivia up from her mothers on the way and took them back to his home. Where she was waiting. With sweet, sweet Milo.
"Don't tell Milo, okay Livvy?" Daniel said to her as they pulled up outside. "It's meant to be a surprise."
Olivia mimmicked locking her lips and throwing away the key. She pulled her backpack onto her shoulders and followed her father up to the house. "Did you have fun at the party?" He asked as he pushed the key into the lock and twisted it.
"Oh, mummy wouldn't let me go to the party," she said and walked in, running up to her bedroom.
"What?!" Daniel cried as he dropped his bags.
His shout alone got the attention of everybody in the house. Milo came running down stairs (after his reunion with Olivia) to jump into his arms and she, his beautiful, wonderful girlfriend, came from the kitchen.
Daniel hugged Milo and let him go as he strode towards her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he held her waist. "Hi, baby," she said and kisssd him.
Daniel kissed her back, but pulled away quickly. "Kerry-Ann didn't let her come to Milo's party," he muttered. "That bitch didn't let Olivia go to the party."
"It's okay," she whispered, running her hands through his hair in a soothing manner. "It's okay. We're gonna go and have a nice dinner tonight, right?"
He nodded. "Right. Yeah. Really nice dinner."
Daniel wanted full custody of Olivia. More than anything in the world, he wanted full custody. But, first, he was gonna marry this girl.
a/n: we have reached the penultimate chapter of the Hooked On A Feeling series!! One more to go (but im definitely doing a follow up series dw)

Blind Love
Clarisse La Rue x Fem!Reader (happy Ending)
When you return from a mission, hurt and partially blind, Clarisse finds herself growing close to you. But the day you can finally see again she grows nervous that you won't recognize her voice.
Requests are still open
Warnings: Blood, aggression
The first time everyone saw you again, you were bleeding from the eyes, crying hysterically while blindly walking through the camp woods with your friends on your shoulders.
You were a quiet and sweet girl, always with your two other friends, but even though you only had been at camp for a few weeks, you were sent on a quest.Â
You didn't have time to remember people, to memorize their faces, you hoped to do that when you returned but unfortunately, you were attacked moments before entering the campgrounds for your return.Â
Chiron ran to you, or at least that's who you thought it was, you couldn't see and all you could do was keep limping with your friend on your back.Â
There were three of you, but Milo sacrificed himself to give you guys a chance. So you ran with Lila who hit her head, on your shoulders, until something sliced your eyes. You stumbled, screaming in pain and gripping at your eyes as you felt the blood travel down your face.Â
Whatever did it to you, didn't want to kill you fell on the ground for Lila, throwing her over your shoulders once more and continuing to try and go in the direction of the camp.
You walked to the healing infirmary with two people guiding you and eventually sat down on a bed while many voices yelled in the background.Â
You felt hopeless. You were hopeless, especially when they called out that Lila was dead.Â
They covered your eyes with bandages, and you couldn't help but dampen them with blood and tears.Â
Someone squeezed your shoulder and you only straightened your back and stayed still. âThey will heal with the medicine we will provide, but you need to keep them covered ⌠if they get infected then it's over.â A boy with a gentle voice told you.Â
Holding your hand to help you get off the bed.Â
They wanted to set you in your bed and allow you to finally relax but you refused. You wanted to sit in the chair on the porch of your cabin, if you couldn't see nature you wanted to at least feel it.Â
And that's what you did, almost every day. You couldn't do anything else, you wouldn't talk to anyone, too devastated about what happened to your friends to try and make more. Without sight, you couldn't train, walk around, or explore.Â
So you sat and simply breathed.Â
But it wasn't till one day when a camper named Clarisse made the wrong choice at the wrong time.Â
She didnât know you, not many did, you were quiet before and now you were like a ghost. And talking to you did not sound appealing to her.Â
So when she was walking past a camper that unfortunately left your cabin she decided to trip them because her siblings next to her dared her to.Â
But then she heard a deep voice call her, Chiron.Â
âClarisse, we talked about this.âÂ
Clarisse let out a sigh and turned around to look at him as her siblings ran off, âAbout what?âÂ
âAbout your abuse towards other campers, just because your father is the god of war doesn't mean you have to always prove to him you can be aggressive.âÂ
You didn't know this girl, but you thanked her for saving you from Chiron. Chiron had been visiting you daily to try and convince you to do things, but you always whispered a no.Â
âYou need to be friendlier ⌠help others.â He spoke once more, an idea brewing in his head âWhich is why I want you to help Y/n ⌠bring her to the lakeâÂ
You let out a sigh, your eyebrows furrowing together in annoyance, now you couldn't say no to him.Â
Clarisse looked at him annoyed, her arms crossing and she rolled her eyes. Chiron waved her to follow him and she did, approaching you as you sat there.Â
ây/n, you need to get up. You like sitting in the ocean and it's time to move.â Chiron spoke, he didn't want you to think you had a choice.Â
âI can't see, why would I want to go to the lake if I can't even see it.â You mumbled looking in the direction you thought he was in. âYou still have a few other senses you can use to enjoy yourself there.âÂ
You sighed once more and turned your head away from him âAgain. I can't see ⌠how you plan on getting me there.âÂ
Chiron let out a chuckle âWell this is where Clarisse will come in clutch.â Clarisse looked at Chiron with anger, she did not want to help you, she had better things to do than this.Â
Chiron grabbed your arm and helped you walk to Clarisse and gave her your arm.Â
When he went to leave he placed his hand down on her shoulder âYou can't hurt the blind ⌠it's unfair.âÂ
While he walked away he chuckled âMaybe you'll learn a thing or two about being kind, Y/n is a good one.âÂ
Clarisse looked at you, her tongue poking the side of her cheek in annoyance. When she thought youâd say something to her, you didnât.Â
âAre we going to move?â you finally spoke up, your arm frozen in her grasp. âOhâŚâ Clarisse mumbled as she led you down the steps and the dirt paths.Â
She didnât mind the silence, she found herself enjoying the company without feeling the need to always be talking.Â
Every once in a while, she found herself looking at you, how you still moved your head around as if you were looking for things to see, but instead it was only the sounds. She took notice how every once in a while you'd stumble and your grip would tighten on her arm. She noticed all these things and enjoyed them.Â
When you finally arrived at the Lake, Clarisse picked a good spot and sat you down and then sat right next to you.Â
She never really liked the water, always finding it aggressive, and not in a delightful way, and she hated how the sand always got caught in her hair. But she took notice of how your shoulders softened at the familiar sounds that you had kept yourself from for weeks, and she found herself smiling.Â
âYou like the water?â Clarisse asked softly, finding herself caring if you were ready to talk yet or not. âYes ⌠I grew up by the ocean, it makes me think of better times.â You mumbled, your fingers digging into the sand.Â
You hate the sand, but you still find yourself touching it trying to remember those times you played with it when you were younger.Â
Clarisse looked away from you and back at the lake, she wanted to hate Chiron for making her do this, but she couldnât.Â
After a few moments, Clarisse looked back at you and memorized your face, she wondered what your eye color was and if they matched your personality. âDo you want to ⌠touch the water?â Clarisse thought for a moment, looking around at things to do.Â
You had been sitting there for a while, soaking in the sun, she wasn't sure if you were bored. You nodded your head and stuck your arm out for her to grab, and she quickly took your hand, pulling you off the ground and slowly walking you toward the water.Â
The waves were small, making a limited amount of noise, but the scent still wavered in the air. You walked closer to the water, Clarisse held a loose grip on your hand not wanting to hurt you, and then you finally touched the water.Â
It was refreshing, almost felt like a new start to you, as if you were finally willing to try and live your life instead of sitting around all the time.Â
You inhaled softly as you stood there, and Clarisse did the same, finally looking away from you and out at the water. Watching the campers row small boats and splash each other with the water. For once she didn't feel the anger she constantly felt, a part of her wanted to thank Chiron, but instead, she silently thanked you.Â
After an hour you finally voiced that you were done, so Clarisse started to lead you back to your cabin. But instead of the usual route, she took a longer path, wanting you to spend some more time walking instead of going back to your cabin where you would sit back down.Â
You knew what she was doing, you had noticed the difference in paths and how long they took. A part of you wanted to ask why but you kept quiet.Â
Eventually, you got back to your cabin and she helped you to the door, you carefully opened it and felt around, following the string some of your younger siblings had set up for you to follow.Â
Clarisse watched as you went inside, she knew you couldnât see her standing there, so she took her time leaving.Â
Every day she would go back to your cabin, saying it was Chiron who was making her help you but in reality, she just wanted you.Â
You started to open up to her, showing the lively personality that you had lost during the attack, and Clarisse loved it.Â
Things were perfect for both of you until it was the day to get your bandages off along with the stitches for good. While on your usual walk, you told Clarisse and for a moment you heard silence.Â
âAren't you excited for me?â You asked softly squeezing her arm gently and you heard Clarisse hum softly âYeah ââÂ
âWill you be there for me?â you asked once more and you heard a soft hum from Clarisse again. You didn't think anything of it, but deep down Clarisse was upset. What if you saw her for who she is, an ugly person inside and out?Â
Later that day you went to the infirmary, sitting down on the bed with your foot gently shaking at how excited you are. Will walked over to you and started to unwarp your face and you heard the door open, figuring it was Clarisse you asked someone âIs Clarisse here?âÂ
Will looked behind him and saw her, but before he opened his mouth Clarisse shook her head at him, staying near the door she waited. She didn't know why she didn't want to stay with you, she was always curious what your eye color was, but she still had that unfamiliar feeling of embarrassment.Â
âNo ⌠she uhm isn't,â Will answered you, and he noticed how your shoulders visibly fell in disappointment. A feeling that maybe Clarisse didnât like you flooded your mind but you quickly tried to brush it off.Â
Will finally had the bandages off and started to unstitch your eyes, right before he finished Clarisse had left, not wanting you to see her.Â
You quickly opened your eyes, looking around, everything was so bright. You smiled and thanked Will, walking towards a mirror and pausing in fright right in front of it.Â
There were scars left behind, you were disappointed, you felt ugly and all you wanted to do was talk to Clarisse, but you had no idea what she looked like.Â
âThey'll disappear eventually don't worry Y/nâ Will comforted you and you only nodded and smiled. When you walked around Camp you asked some campers where Clarisse was but they all either said they didn't know, or it was best if you didn't know.Â
After an hour of searching you went back to your cabin defeated, it was nearly noon and campers were leaving to go get dinner, but you weren't feeling hungry.Â
As you grabbed onto the railing, a habit of yours two hands covered your eyes which made you let out a yell.Â
âSorry!â the voice responded, and you immediately knew who it was. You turned around and saw her in all her glory, Clarisse.Â
She was pretty ⌠really pretty. You furrowed your brows together, forgetting why you were upset for a moment until you remembered.Â
âI don't want to talk to you,â you spoke before turning around and walking up the stairs. Clarisse was quick to follow âWait!â she grabbed your shoulder and turned you towards her, her hand running down to hold on to your arm.Â
She stared into your eyes for a few moments, memorizing the colors and the way your pupils changed sizes when you looked at her.Â
âStop looking at them,â she looked puzzled for a second âAt what?âÂ
âMy scars,â you answered as you turned to look away, a part of you didn't want her to see you looking like this, âWhy? They look badassâ she mumbled, bringing her hands to gently touch them, which for a moment startled you until her fingertips started to feel nice against your skin.Â
âYou weren't there,â you mumbled quietly looking back at her, âI was ⌠just didn't want you to see me.â she spoke softly back, her eyes still memorized by you, âBut Will said-âÂ
âI told him to lie,â she responded quickly, her hand finally dropping, leaving your skin feeling colder than before. âWhy?âÂ
âI just ⌠was feeling insecure, wanted to look my best for you.â She spoke with a smile, and you took the time to lock away the memory of what her first smile looked like. âAnd why would you want that?â you asked even softer, allowing Clarisseâs hands to travel down your arms towards your hands.Â
âAre you blind?â she asked in a bit of an aggressive voice, which startled you for a moment, but you did tell her you wanted to see all of her one day. âI like you.â She admitted shamefully, her hands trying to reach for your hips.Â
While she waited for a response, she prayed to any god or goddess to help her, she wanted this to work out.Â
âDo you think I would have stayed around to listen to you tell me about cartons if I didnât like you.â She spoke up once more which made you smile, and Clarisse took notice of how your eyes and nose scrunched together when you smiled at her.Â
She liked it.Â
You both moved closer, not realizing it at first âI like how you aren't disappointed in how I am ⌠or what my hands have done in the past.â she mumbled before she quickly kissed you. Her hands tighten around your waist.Â
Through each kiss she mumbled another thing she liked about you, trying to convince you more that she liked you.Â
âYou're the person I want to crawl home for.â She admitted as she pulled away from your lips, her hands still in the loopholes of your shorts.Â
You smiled and brought your hand up to touch her face, and you took notice of how she flushed a darker red at the touch of you. âI like you too Clarisse,â you smiled as you kept your eyes connected to hers.Â
For a moment you forgot about everything until you heard a voice in the background, it was Chiron clearing his throat, âYou ladies best get to dinner.â He let out a soft chuckle as he walked away.Â

hi! For the bartender!Universe would u mind writing a pregnancy scare? It brings a lot of mixed emotions when they find out she wasnât pregnant and it ends up a really deep talk about what they want with their future? Thank you so much đđ
i got a similiar ask at the exact same time so i decided to combine aspects of both!!! the other request: "this oneâs a lil angsty. maybe you have a pregnancy scare and while rafes like super excited for the potential baby, youâre not, the stress of keeping rafe clean and not heading back to rehab lingers your mind".
hope you both enjoy!!!!â¤ď¸đŤđ¤
just want you in my life keep you warm at nights - r.c
pairing: rafe x pogue!reader (bartender!reader universe) warnings: pregnancy scare; insecurities
Rafe was sprawled out beside you, his arm draped lazily across your stomach as he scrolled through his phone. You could feel the pressure of his hand pressing gently on your skin, but your mind was a million miles away, your gaze stuck on the ceiling fan.
It felt like everything had been on autopilot for the past few days, your mind preoccupied with one thingâlate. Not like a few days late.
More like over a week late.
It wasnât the first time your period had been irregular, but you couldnât help but spiral immediately. Rafe and you had been together for three and a half years, living together for a while now and heâd proposed last autumn. But this? This wasnât part of the plan.
Not yet.
âHey,â His voice snapped you back to the present, his brows furrowed as he looked at you, concern evident in his blue eyes. âWhatâs wrong?â
You blinked, trying to force a smile. âNothing... just thinking.â
He shifted, propping himself up on his elbow to look at you more closely. âThinkinâ about what?â
You stomach dropped. You hadnât told him yet. You werenât sure if there was anything to tell because you hadnât even taken the test. You werenât sure if you wanted to. Saying it out loud would make it real. And that terrified you.
Rafe, on the other hand, would probably be thrilled. Heâd always talked about kids like they were a given, like it was part of some unspoken future you were destined for. You wanted them too, but the truth? The truth was, the idea of being responsible for another human being when you were still trying to recover from Rafe's scare last year and keeping your shit together now that youâd gotten a promotion at the clubâwell, it felt like too much.
You couldnât say that, though. Not to him. So you kept quiet.Â
The next day, you stared at the small plastic stick in your hand, heart hammering in your chest as you waited for the result to appear. The bathroom was dead silent, save for the faint drip of the sink, but your mind was anything but quiet.
This one stupid piece of plastic was going to dictate the rest of your life. It could change everything in the blink of an eye. Three minutes. Thatâs how long it would take to find out if your entire world was about to be turned upside down.
You still hadnât told Rafe. You didnât even know how to. His mind was in a good place lately, and you werenât about to ruin that. After everything weâd been throughâthe relapse, the rehab, the nights where you werenât sure if heâd make it outâthis was not something you were ready to throw on both of you.
You hadnât even wrapped your head around it yet. Shit, you could barely breathe just thinking about the possibility. You glanced at your phone, biting your lip as the seconds ticked by.
Almost time. Your stomach twisted into endless knots. He was in the living room, blissfully unaware of the panic attack you were on the verge of having just a few feet away. You could hear him flipping through channels on the TV, probably looking for some show to watch. Part of you felt guilty for not telling him, but how were you supposed to tell him when you didnât even know what you wanted?
The idea of being pregnant had scared you more than you expected.
Not because you hated kids or anything, you grew up rising Milo for fuckâs sakeâit was just the timing. Or maybe it was more than that.
Your mom died shortly after you were born and your dadâŚwell, a drunk piece of shit was hardly a good parental figure. Youâd never let yourself think about it before, Rafe had told you how good you were with kids a million times over the years, but you didnât know how youâd turn out with your own kids. You didnât want to be anything like them, ever.Â
Taking a deep breath, you finally glanced down at the test.
Negative.
Relief took over you so fast it made you feel lightheaded. You hadnât realized just how much pressure youâd been carrying on your shoulders until it was gone in an instant. Thank God.
Your shoulders slumped as you exhaled, leaning against the sink for support. You felt like you finally could breathe again, like you could relax for the first time in what felt like weeks. There was no baby. No life-altering change. No new responsibility that you didnât know how to handle.
You closed your eyes. This was good. This was the outcome you needed. No baby, no stress, just⌠back to normal.
But then, life had a twisted sense of humor and the door creaked open. âHey, baby, youââ
Your eyes flew open, heart dropping in your chest as you quickly shoved the pregnancy test behind your back. Rafe stood in the doorway, looking at you with his signature confused lookâone eyebrow cocked, lips slightly parted, like heâd walked in on something he wasnât supposed to.
You forced a smile, too wide and too fake, and took a step back, trying to act casual. âOh, uh, hey! Whatâs up?â Your voice cracked on the last word, and you internally winced. Smooth.
He narrowed his eyes, crossing his arms as he leaned against the doorframe. âWhat are you hiding behind your back?â
Shit.
You tried to laugh it off, shaking your head like it was no big deal. âHiding? Me? Iâm not hiding anything.â
His eyes moved to the hand behind your back. âReally? Because it sure looks like you are.â
You swallowed hard, your brain rushing to come up with some excuse, any excuse.Â
But the longer you stood there, the more suspicious you looked. And Rafe was nothing if not persistent when he thought something was up. Before you could stop him, he pushed off the doorframe and closed the distance between you two, his hand reaching behind your back in one smooth motion. Your stomach dropped as he grabbed the test from your hand, pulling it out in front of both of us.
He stared at the pregnancy test in his hand, his eyes widening with realization as he slowly processed what he was seeing. What he was holding. His mouth opened slightly, but no words came out at first. He just stood there.Â
âY-You thought you were pregnant?â
The heat rose to your cheeks, and the anxiety that had been building in your stomach for days came back at full force. You were still reeling from the relief of the negative result, but now that relief was giving up space for guilt. You hadnât meant for him to find out like this, or maybe not even at all. You didnât want to drag him into the spiral youâd been caught in, not when things had been going so well lately.
âI... I wasnât sure,â you stammered, looking down at the floor because it was easier than meeting his eyes. âI mean, I was late, and I justâŚI didnât know.â
Rafeâs face softened, the confusion in his eyes giving way to concern as he took a step toward you. âWhy didnât you tell me?â
You swallowed hard, your heart racing again, this time for a different reason. The last thing you wanted to do was lie but telling him the truth felt impossible.
âI didnât want to stress you out,â you admitted, âI wasnât even sure if I was, and I didnât want to freak you out for no reason.â
Rafeâs hand was still holding the test, but now he was looking at you with that intensity he always had when he knew you were telling the entire truth. He wasnât madâhe never got mad, not anymoreâbut you could tell he was hurt that you hadnât let him in. You felt awful about it.
âI wouldnât have freaked out,â he said gently, stepping even closer until he was right in front of you. âYou know that, right? You donât have to do this alone.â
That was the thing, though. Over the past year youâd spent so long worrying about him, making sure he was healthy, that the idea of burdening him again with your own fears had become...strange.
You didnât want to be another weight on his shoulders.
âI know, I justâŚâ You sighed, running a hand through your hair. âI didnât know how to feel about it. And I didnât want you toââ
âTo what?â he pressed softly, his voice so calm and reassuring that it made the stress loosen just a little.
You took a deep breath, âI didnât want you to get your hopes up, I guess. Or feel disappointed if it was negative.â
He set the test down on the counter beside him, reaching out to cup your face in his hands. âBaby, I wouldnât be disappointed,â he murmured, his thumb brushing against your cheek. âIf it had been positive, great. If itâs not, thatâs fine too. Weâve got time. Itâs not like we have to figure this out right now.â
The lump in your throat made it hard to speak. âYouâre really not mad?â
Rafe shook his head, âI wish you wouldâve told me what you were going through. I donât want you to carry that by yourself.â
You closed your eyes, leaning into his touch. There was so much you wanted to say, so many fears youâd been holding ontoânot just about the possibility of being pregnant, but about everything. About whether you were even ready for kids at all, about what kind of parent youâd be, about whether you could handle the responsibility when your past still haunted you in ways you hadnât recovered from.
âItâs not just that,â you whispered, âI donât know if Iâm ready, Rafe. And it scares the shit out of me.â
He was silent for a moment, and when you finally opened your eyes to look at him, his expression was so gentle, so understanding, that it almost broke you.
âHey,â he pulled you into his arms. âWe donât have to be ready right now. Thereâs no rush. When youâre ready, weâll talk about it."
You buried your face in his chest, letting him heartbeat calm you. His arms wrapped around you tightly, and for the first time in what felt like days, you allowed yourself to relax.
âI-I know you want a baby. Butââ
He sighed against your hair, lips brushing your temple, âWhat I want is for you to be happy. And if this doesnât make you happy right now, I donât mind waiting. We got forever, remember?â
It wasnât that you didnât want kidsâit was that right now, everything already felt like too much. Planning a wedding, keeping up with work, holding your relationship together after what you both had been through, it was all overwhelming. And then the idea of a baby on top of that? Youâd grow crazy.
Rafeâs fingers brushed through your hair, and you just let yourself be in his comfort. But the guilt was still there, eating you whole from the inside. You shouldâve told him from the start, not carried it all on your own like you always do.
âIâm sorry,â you muttered into his chest, voice muffled. âI didnât mean to keep it from you. I just didnât know what to do. Itâs been a lot lately.â
He kissed the top of your head, his hands gentle as they held you. âYou donât have to apologize, baby. Youâre dealing with enough already.â
You let out a shaky laugh. âYeah, I think Iâm losing my mind.â
The wedding. God, the wedding. You hadnât even let yourself fully acknowledge how much that had been stressing you out too. Youâd dreamed about this day since you were a kid, but now, between caterers, guest lists, dress fittings, and everything else, it felt like a full-time job. And the worst part was, the more overwhelmed you got, the more guilty you felt for not being excited enough about it.
âI just want everything to be perfect,â you admitted, biting your lip. âI want it to be special, but itâs starting to feel like a chore. Like Iâm supposed to care more about seating charts and floral arrangements than... than actually enjoying the fact that weâre getting married.â
âThen letâs cut back. We donât need some huge, over-the-top thing if itâs stressing you out. I just want to marry you, thatâs all that matters to me.â
He always knew exactly how to calm you down, how to remind you what was important when everything else felt a little too crazy.
âBut what about your family?â you asked, wiping at the corner of your eyes. âTheyâre expecting this big thing.â
He shrugged, âTheyâll get over it. This is about us, not them. If you want something smaller, we can do that. Hell, we can get married in the backyard for all I care, as long as itâs what you want.â
The sincerity in his voice almost made you want to bawl your eyes out. You took a deep breath, nodding slowly. âI think Iâd like that. Something smaller. More us.â
âThen thatâs what weâll do,â he nodded. You let out a sigh of relief, the knot in your chest loosening more. Maybe this was what you neededâto let go of the pressure to have it all figured out. To accept that it was okay to not be ready for everything.
âI love you,â you whispered, leaning into his touch.
âI love you too,â he replied, his forehead resting against yours. âBut baby, you have to stop worrying so much about me. Iâm okay. Iâm doing good, and Iâm not going back there. But youâre gonna drive yourself crazy if you keep putting me first and ignoring what you need.â
You blinked, your breath catching slightly. âIâm not ignoring what I needââ
âYou are,â he cut in gently, but firmly. âYouâve been doing it for months now. Since the relapse, since rehab. Youâve been carrying all this, stressing about keeping everything together. And I love you for wanting to take care of me, but you canât keep putting yourself second. Itâs not fair to you.â
You wanted to argue, to say you were fine, that it was just what you had to do to keep everything from falling apart. But deep down, you knew he was right. Youâd been holding on so tight, so terrified that if you let go, if you stopped worrying about him for even a second, youâd lose him again.Â
âIâm just scared,â you whispered, the lump in your throat making it hard to speak. âI donât want to lose you.â
âYouâre not going to lose me,â Rafe said softly, pulling you closer. âBut if you keep this up, youâre gonna lose yourself.â
You closed your eyes, pressing your face into his chest as the tears youâd been holding back finally started to fall. Rafe held you tighter, his hand rubbing slow circles on your back. He didnât try to hush you or tell you to stop. He just let you cry, let you get it all out, like he knew youâd needed this release for a long time. You couldnât stop. Everything youâd been bottling up for months was spilling out at once.
Rafe held you tighter, his hand rubbing slow circles on your back. He didnât try to hush you or tell you to stop. He just let you cry, let you get it all out, like he knew youâd needed this for a long time.
You pulled back slightly, sniffling as you wiped at your eyes. âIâm sorry,â you muttered. âI didnât mean toââ
âStop apologizing,â Rafe shook his head. âYou donât have to apologize for feeling what youâre feeling. But youâve gotta start trusting that Iâm okay."
You nodded, swallowing hard. âI know.â
"Youâre allowed to let me take care of you too, you know?â
You let out a small laugh, wiping the last of the tears from your face. âIâm not great at that.â
âMeh, you used to be a lot worse.â
âYeah?â you asked, raising an eyebrow, leaning into his familiar warmth.
âOh yeah,â he smirked, his hand brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. âYou used to keep everything so locked up, Iâd have to pry things out of you.
His words made you chuckle, despite yourself. It was true. You had gotten better at letting him inâat least compared to before.
âYouâve always been so good at taking care of me,â you whispered, your hand tracing soft patterns across his chest. âBut I guess sometimes I still forget that I donât have to be strong all the time.â
âYou donât. Iâve got you, baby. Iâve always got you.â
He meant itâevery word. This was Rafe at his best, the man who had fought his way back from the darkness, who had become the partner you always knew he could be. The boy you fell in love with, the man you were going to marry and grow old with.
âIâm really trying,â you murmured, blinking back the last of your tears. âI donât want to keep worrying about everything or trying to control whatâs out of my hands. I just want us to be happy.â
âYou make me happier than Iâve ever been, and I donât want you to ever doubt that.â
You hesitated for a second, biting your lip before finally speaking up.
"Rafe?" you said softly, looking up at him. He hummed in response, his hand still tracing slow, comforting circles on your back.
"Are you⌠are you sure you're not sad about the, uh, not pregnant thing?" Your voice was quiet, unsure. You didnât know why you felt the need to ask again. Even with all his reassurances, a part of you couldnât ignore the worry that he might feel disappointed deep down.
He sighed gently, his lips quirking into a soft, understanding smile. "Baby, no," he said firmly, shaking his head as if to emphasize his point. "I promise you, Iâm not sad. It doesnât change anything between us. I told you beforeâweâve got time. Iâm happy with where we are right now. I donât need a baby to make me feel complete. You already do that."
You couldn't help but ask again, just to be sure. "Really? Youâre not disappointed?"
Rafe sighed softly, moving his hand to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear as he looked at you with those steady blue eyes. "Not disappointed. Not sad. Iâm just glad youâre here. Thatâs all I care about. Iâm fine with whatever the outcome is as long as I have you.â
"Youâre really okay with this?"Â
He frowned slightly, his hand coming up to gently tilt your chin so you were looking directly at him. "Listen to me. You could never disappoint me. Okay?"
You still had questions, still had insecurities about the future, but for the first time in days, you werenât consumed by them and allowed yourself to believe that everything really was going to be good.
"Okay."
