IMAGINE DATING LUKE AND HAVING AN EPILEPSY FIT IN FRONT OF EVERYONE.
requested by @jules-cameron
(I'm not happy with this even though I fought with this for a few hours but I hope this isn't that bad... ALSO I'M SO ANGRY THIS SHOW GOT CANCELLED WTF NETFLIX 😭 I'm gonna miss this series so fricking much...)
---
It came by a complete surprise. That familiar feeling that you always had before a seizure and you barely registered it before you lost consciousness. They all watched in horror as you started convulsing but fortunately Julie had paid attention on first aid classes and knew how to help you, telling the boys what to do.
Waking up and seeing them all sitting around you with worried expressions made you confused for a moment.
"What happened? Why are you all looking at me like that?" you asked, slowly sitting up.
"You had a seizure, it looked like an epileptic seizure," Julie explained and frowned at you.
"Oh," you mumbled, she made you realize what had just happened, and you felt horrible for having not told them.
You knew you should have told them, but you had trusted your meds - they barely ever failed you. And you just tried to believe that they don't have to know, they could think of you as a freak.
After being bullied for four years at daycare and school before getting your meds, your default fear with everyone was that you'd be judged for having this one hell of a condition you had been cursed with if they knew. Maybe it would scare them away, maybe you would even lose Luke when he would think of you as a burden.
But if you had just looked past your fears, you would have seen that they wouldn't judge you. They were your friends, they wouldn't judge you for something like that. And Luke loved you, he had told you that and shown you that numerous times. You felt stupid of having kept your epilepsy as a secret now.
"Sorry," you muttered and Luke leaned forward, wrapping his arms tightly around you.
"You scared us there," you heard Alex say after a few moments and pulled away from your boyfriend, offering an apologizing smile to the boys and Julie.
"I was sure you would get scared and abandon me," you confessed, rubbing your face in embarrassment. "People have done that before."
Luke frowned at you and then cupped your cheek, clearly sensing it was a painful topic for you. "We could never abandon you, Y/N."
You leaned into his hand, grateful that they were so understanding. "I know, I just... I don't even know, I thought my meds wouldn't betray me while I'm with you guys, and I wouldn't have to deal with this conversation."
Julie reached out and grabbed your hand, drawing slow circles to the back of it with her thumb. "Y/N, we care about you. You don't have to hide anything from us, we won't judge."
You looked at Julie for a while, before turning your hand around to clasp her hand in your own, squeezing it.
You smiled when you were reminded about it once again - you had the best friends in the whole world.
---
(gif is mine! My internet is slow again and finding gifs is pain because they won't load so I made one with Luke even though this imagine involves the whole gang)

requested Julie and the Phantoms - Luke Patterson x Reader, fluff
tw: none
word count: 567
song: everybody wants to rule the world - tears for fears | 🔍
A/N: so this song had the potential to be... how do you say.... very emo. i decided to let the bittersweetness of foresight do the job for me and instead made it very fluffy. i mean... look up the lyrics to this song. there is so much i could have chosen from, but i went for happiness.
Summary: Luke has good news for Sunset Curve, and tonight, you would celebrate.
Tumblr media
The Los Angeles sun shined down brightly as you walked through the neighborhoods, bags slung over your shoulder. The day was warm, and the whole world seemed to buzz. You breathed in deeply as you walked, a spring in your step.
You heard your destination before you saw it - music echoing out of the studio, filling the afternoon air with the unmistakable sound of Sunset Curve. You smiled to yourself, rolling your eyes. They were great, but one of these days, they'd get themselves thrown in jail from all of the noise complaints. Luckily, they had a friend like you to bail them out. Unluckily, if they ever made it into the pen, you'd make them wait a little while before fetching them - just to scare them senseless.
You were a great friend.
"Guys, I could hear you all the way down the block." You opened the doors to the studio, and music flooded outward, hitting you full force with a wave of adrenaline. You stepped inside, expecting to be met with a handful of grinning boys but instead walking into dead air. The stereo was blasting the demo Luke had been so proud of recording, but there was no sign of the boys. Typical.
You rolled your eyes and crossed the room to turn the CD player off. As soon as your finger hit the button, a voice cried out.
"Hey!"
You turned to see Luke pop his head down from the loft, his face momentarily annoyed but melting into joy when he saw you.
"Hey yourself."
"(Y/n)! I have great news!"
"Yeah?" In a flash, Luke was at your side, beaming. "Where's the rest of the guys? You rarely make announcements without them."
"They're out celebrating already - as we should be!" Luke poked your sides, eliciting giggles. He always had that effect on you - the ability to make you forget everything but was right in front of you. And most often that was two things: good music, and joy. "Sunset Curve is playing the Orpheum!"
"What?!" you shouted, all the surprise hitting you full force, joy building up into your chest. "Luke!"
He let out a shout of joy and turned the music back on, the bass making the room jump. Luke grabbed your hands and pulled you up onto the couch. He jumped along to the beat of the song. "We're gonna be famous!"
You released another whoop of joy, and Luke grinned even broader, his hazel eyes sparkling with the thrill of life and the excitement of adventure. He took your hands and started dancing to the music, only laughing harder when you lost your balance on the couch cushions. Today was for victory. It was the beginning of something new - impossibly bright, with possibility burning hotter than the sun.
The song eventually died, and Luke jumped off of the couch, pushing his hair back triumphantly. "Everything's going to change - just wait and see."
"'Just wait'? I'm going to be cheering from the front row!" You shot back. Luke turned and winked; you rolled your eyes, laughing. If you could feel like this forever, you would. "You're gonna rule the world."
"Hell yeah, we are! Sunset Curve is going to change the game," Luke promised, golden with the light of the sun and bursting with energy. It was impossible not to believe him. "But first, we celebrate."
Luke offered you his hand and tilted his head toward the doors. You took it gladly, shaking your head, laughing still.

You & I
Requested by anon: “Could I get a Luke Patterson x reader where the reader is able to see Luke, Reggie, nd Alex. The only difference from julie is that she can make contact w/them.”
A/N: I rewrote this a bunch of times actually because it never really worked out but here is this xD just some Luke fluff
Pairing: Luke Patterson x female!reader
WC: 1.6k
Tumblr media
“Luke!” You spun around with your hand on your chest begging your racing heart to calm down. Luke had scared you by just appearing behind you. “What the fuck?! You can’t scare me like that, it’s bad for my health!” you complained, turning back to your locker. There were already people looking at you because of your outcry and you didn’t want to raise more attention.
“I just came to see you. Is it really that bad that I missed my amazing, beautiful girlfriend who I haven’t seen in way too long?” He leaned against the locker next to yours dramatically, his gaze never leaving you. He gently reached out to your wrist playing with the guitar charm on your bracelet. It had been a gift from him. Well, he asked Julie for help since he couldn’t purchase anything given the fact that he was a ghost, but he was the one who chose what to get you and Julie bought it for him. Now, you never took it off.
You chuckled at his theatrics. “We just saw each other yesterday,” you reminded him. You had been over at Julie’s to help her with some homework which resulted in the two of you spending time in the garage with the boys and not getting a lot of stuff done. Instead, you had talked, played some music and joked around. A good alternative to studying in your eyes.
“That doesn’t count!” He pouted. “You were there for Julie, not for me. When was the last time we spend time together, just the two of us?” The question caught you off-guard. It had indeed been a little while ago. Way too long, you thought. Somehow someone was always around, whether it be Alex and Reggie, Julie, Flynn or even your parents. Although your parents were oblivious to Luke’s presence, it was like they knew when he was in your room, so they would barge in to interrupt. Or they would call when you were out, needing you to come home immediately or do something for them right away. Whenever you tried to do something together, someone always seemed to intervene.
“You’re right.” You sighed, looking over at him, but you turned right back towards your locker when you realized there was another person at their locker right behind to Luke. You wouldn’t want them to think you were talking to them. Luckily, they didn’t pay you much attention. You tried to look busy by reorganizing your books. When you spoke again it was in a quiet voice. “I hate that we weren’t able to be together without anyone else around. It feels like the universe is trying to keep us apart or something.” You laughed, playing your statement off as a joke, but it was a thought that had occurred to you many times before. Being in a relationship with a ghost was… It was great, actually. You loved Luke and he loved you and there wasn’t a human alive on Earth that you had a similar connection with than you had with Luke, but there was always Flynn’s nagging voice in your head reminding you that he was a literal ghost. He was not alive. And how could this ever be something real, if you were alive and he was not?
But it didn’t feel like that to you. You were able to see Luke, to touch him. He was just like any other boy to you in those regards. Sometimes when you were alone with him you even forgot that he was a ghost. You’d be harshly reminded of it again when someone would walk through him or he would walk through something or when he would teleport out of wherever you’d be. Your logical brain, backed up by Flynn, would tell you that it wasn’t natural, it wasn’t right to be in a relationship with a ghost, but your heart? Your heart told you that you loved Luke. It didn’t care about what the future would hold. It cared about the here and now, the moments you shared.
Luke could read the troubling thoughts that were on your mind from your face, your furrowed brows and pursed lips a dead giveaway. He leaned towards you. Determination written across his face. “Let’s get out of here!” He grabbed your hand and pulled you away, closing your locker in the process. You tried to keep up with him, so it wouldn’t look like you were being pulled by thin air. The idea of skipping class and spending time with Luke instead actually sounded great. You’d rather do almost anything with him right now than stay in that building and fight your way through three more classes. And the chance was slim that you’d get interrupted since Julie and Flynn were still at school, your parents at work and what Reggie and Alex were up to you didn’t know.
“Studio or my house?” you asked to check where you’d be going.
“Reggie might be hanging out at the studio, so let’s go to your house,” he answered. His hand still firmly held onto yours. “What’s on your mind?” he followed up when he noticed your focus on your intertwined hands.
“I’m just grateful, I guess, that I get to see you and touch you.” You gently squeezed his hand. You did that a lot, especially with your friends around. It was a subtle way to show your affection or to reassure each other of your presence. “I don’t know how it came to be that it is this way, but I’m really glad.” You smiled at him.
When you arrived at your house Luke immediately went to your living room couch and made himself comfortable while you put your bag away in your room. “Do you want to watch a movie?” You asked when you joined him. Without waiting for a reply, you grabbed the remote to pull up a movie on Netflix as you sat down next to him, but that wasn’t good enough for Luke. He always held back around the others because he knew it might make them uncomfortable, but he loved holding you, touching you, having you close, so he pulled you in to lie against his side, an arm securely wrapped around your waist. You rested your head on his shoulder still looking for something to watch. “What kind of movie are you in the mood for?”
“Just put on something you like. I probably won’t know it anyway.” That wasn’t a big help, but after a bit more contemplation decided on one. It was a movie you already knew by heart and thought Luke might like as well. But what movie was playing wasn’t of much importance anyways. The way Luke was holding you close, pressing kisses onto the top of your head from time to time, that was what mattered. His thumb kept caressing your side. With the noises from the movie playing in the background your eyelids grew heavy and it wasn’t long until you fell asleep.
Luke noticed it immediately when you fell asleep. You were leaning further into him and your hand had fallen from where it was lying on top of his. He carefully moved to lie down on the couch so as to not wake you up. When he was done your eyes were still closed and your breaths even, still, you seemed to cuddle into him even more in your sleep. Luke couldn’t help but fall even more in love with you at the sight. He was aware that you thought it was creepy when he watched you sleep but he liked doing it. There was nothing to disturb him from taking in all your features, to memorize every little thing about you.
He let you sleep for an hour before he decided it was time to wake you by pressing kisses all over your face. You scrunched up your face at the sensation, your sleep-induced mind barely registering what was happening. When you finally opened your eyes, Luke was smiling at you. “Good morning, sleepyhead,” he whispered before he bent down again to connect your lips.
“What time is it?”, you asked him, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes as you slowly sat up.
“Almost 2pm,” he answered after checking your phone.
“Already?!” you exclaimed, now awake. “Why did you let me sleep? You gotta go to practice soon! I thought we wanted to do stuff together today.”
“I do. And I let you sleep because it looked like you needed it. Anyways, technically we did spend time together.”
You eyed him suspiciously. “Did you watch me sleep again?”
He already moved away from you, bringing some distance between the two of you in case you would resort to chugging a pillow at him at his answer. A cheeky smile appeared on his face as he pulled his shoulders up. “Maybe.”
You sighed frustratedly. “Please, don’t do that. It feels so weird to know you watch me sleep. Like, what if I drool?”
“You do,” he laughed, moving closer again. He leaned over the back of the couch to gently grab your chin and wipe over it with his thumb. “But it’s cute.” The grin never left his face while you swatted his hand away, pouting.
You groan. “You’re the worst.”
“But you love me,” he continued with a cocky grin which had you roll your eyes.
“I do. Even though I do wonder why sometimes.” You pulled him back towards you to kiss him again, smiling into the kiss. “And now come cuddle with me until you have to go to band practice.” You opened your arms. Luke happily accepted the invitation, jumped over the back of the couch and lay down beside you. With his head resting on your chest and your fingers carding through his hair he let out a sigh and relaxed into your embrace.
“I love you, too,” he mumbled lazily.

Howdy, may I please request a blurb with Luke Patterson where his s/o convinces him to let them paint his nails. Thank you!!❤️
yes! great request nonnie!
Tumblr media
“Luke,” you huffed, extremely annoyed. “I’m bored,”
“I can see that,” he rolled over on his side, looking over at you. “What do you want to do?”
You thought about it a minute, your eyes flicking over to your dresser, seeing a few bottles of nail polish just begging to be used.
“I think I might have an idea,” you said and Luke connected the dots seeing that the nail polish was in your eye-line.
“No-No way!” he shook his head and pushed himself further back on your bed.
“Come on Luke, not even for me? The person you love the most on the entire planet?”
Luke was about to agree with that, but couldn’t get the words out. Not wanting to let you down.
“Alright fine,” he grumbled.
“I’ll do them black just for you, I promise you’ll like them.”
“We’ll see about that,”
But as usual, you were right, you were always right.

Pretty Places - 90s!Luke Patterson
Summary: You and Luke head out on a roadtrip.
A/N: This is using the same prompt as I got for Naps. I actually had this idea too  so I wrote them both 😂😂
Julie and the Phantoms Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Your dad’s old convertible mustang was a treasure in your family. He had restored the classic car from the old junkyard heap that his dad before him had wheeled home for his birthday when he was your age. It was a relic of a golden age and he almost never let it out of his sight. When the weather cleared up, he would drive her around the block as if he was exercising the car for the season but he was always in the driver’s seat.
“Just a week,” but you were determined. You had been talking about a road trip before tour with Luke for as long as he had been talking about tour and that car, that beautiful convertible mustang, was just the car for the drive. “Luke’s totally reliable.”
Your family loved Luke. They thought he was great. Your dad was something of an amateur musician himself and an avid fan of Sunset Curve, frequently talking to Luke about the band and where it was headed. He seemed to have a kindred spirit in your boyfriend, one that worked in your favor because your dad, who was reluctant to lend you the car to drive to the end of the street, perked up at the mention of Luke.
“Luke will be driving?” He asked.
Luke would not be driving. You loved your boyfriend and he could totally shred on the guitar but he lacked the coordination to drive a car well. He was constantly distracted by everything and frequently stopped in the middle of doing things to write down some song lyric or another in his notebook. Letting him drive a car was asking for an accident. But your dad had convinced himself that Luke’s greatness extended to car driving and who were you to disagree?
“Yeah, of course.”
You left early in the morning, sun barely risen, bags packed for a week on the road and Luke in the passenger seat. He’d put a mixtape in the cassette deck the minute you backed out of the driveway, Iron Maiden whispering words that were meant to be screamed through the tinny speakers on your dad’s radio. Luke didn’t seem to mind, half whispering the words along with them under his breath as you drove, the top already down on the convertible so that you could enjoy the crisp, early morning California air, before it got too hot.
The road you were taken had been mapped out ahead of time, a little spontaneous in the exact details but less so in the overall plan. Luke wanted to spend a few days in Big Sur, camping because he’d never been before and he honestly thought he would be good at it. You had every confidence that he would end up hating the place and ask to go to a hotel somewhere before the first night was entirely finished. You would be fine either way. You’d spent a good deal of your childhood camping and could rough it with the best of them but you would happily spend a week with a motel room as your basecamp if Luke wanted.
Either way, you were just looking forward to a moment of solace before the hectic tour schedule broke through your bubble.
“Luke,” You glanced over at your boyfriend as you pulled into a gas station before the freeway. The car was half on empty from your dad test driving around the block a couple of times before biding his mustang farewell for the week.
He hummed, turning to look over at you, still a little sleepy from the early morning. Even the music didn’t seem to pull him out of his trance. “What’s up?”
“I’m gonna fill up, do you wanna get snacks or something?” You asked, already opening the car door to get out.
“Yeah, okay,” Luke replied, nodding his head against the headrest, eyes already closing again.
You laughed at the way his bottom lip jutted out into a pout as he tried to make himself comfortable, the trip into the mini-mart not even a thought anymore. “You’re so cute when you’re half asleep like this.” You teased, “but I do want snacks so you’re gonna have to wake up.” You flicked the dial on the volume, cranking up the song louder than necessary and sending Luke into a mild shock as he jumped in the seat, grabbing his chest at the sudden noise.
“Holy shit!”
“Snack time, Patterson, get in there.” You joked as you turned the volume back down again. You could hear Luke cursing under his breath as he got out of the car, slamming the door shut and heading into the mini-mart that was attached to the gas station.
This vacation away from the band and your friends wasn’t just because you wanted to spend time with Luke and you knew that he probably knew that. If you wanted to spend time with him before the tour you could’ve done so just as well hanging in Bobby’s garage as going on a road trip. The thought that you had been dancing around was one that you really wanted to avoid bringing up. If tour went well, there would be other tours. Other opportunities, more shows. You’d be in college, working and trying to get a degree and Luke would be travelling all over the country and somewhere in the back of your head you kept telling yourself that maybe this would be the end of your yearlong relationship. You’d been on cloud nine when Luke asked you to go out with him but you were starting to come back down again.
“Alright,” Luke called, full bag of snacks in one hand and his other adjusting the hood of his black sweatshirt. He still looked sleepy in the best way. “I got twizzlers, chips, soda, a bag of sour patch kids and a bag of those mini reeses, also blue gatorade and some of those weird granola bars you like that get little crumbs everywhere.”
“So you bought the whole store?” You joked, hanging the gas nozzle back up and sealing the cap on.
“I left the shitty coffee that was burning in the bottom of the pot.” He replied, getting back in the car and laying the snacks at his feet. He took out one of the gatorade’s and chugged some, “alright, lets do this shit.”
“You make it sound like this is gonna be painful,” you laughed, “it’s a road trip, it’ll be fun.”
“Hey, trust me, I know it will. There’s nothing I wanna do more.” Luke said, “I even found a book of sights at Big Sur for us to check out.”
“Really?”
“Yeah...” He shrugged, trying to play it off as no big deal but the fact of the matter was that Luke had been planning for this trip as much as you had. He felt like taking a week together, even if it was only to be alone before going away, was a pretty big step. “Besides, like, you know...play a sold-out stadium tour.”
“Luke!” You groaned, trying to keep your eyes on the road and resist the urge to look over at him. “I’m being serious!”
“So am I! You know how awesome that would be?” He said, leaning across the armrest to look at you. His smile was infectious, you could already feel yourself breaking under his gaze, “hey, I am really excited about this. We need this.”
“I agree.” You chanced a quick look at a stop sign, leaning over and giving him a kiss before you started driving again. “and when you do play sold out stadium tours...which you will...I’ll be screaming my head off in the pit with all the crazy fans that you guys are gonna have.”
“Alright but I expect at least one bra thrown at me.” He said, sitting back in his seat and pulling his hood up again as if he was going to try to sleep some more.
“I’ll bring an extra.” You laughed when he reached across the small space of your dad’s mustang to shove you gently, sticking his tongue out at you. Worries that you had, that wouldn’t go away in one conversation or one trip up state, were pushed to the back of your mind for the moment.

Retail Therapy - Luke Patterson
Julie and the Phantoms
Tumblr media
Request?: Nope.
Word Count: 4.8K+
Summary: Alive!Luke x Alive!Reader/ Alive!JATP x Reader. After a fight with your parents, you go out for a little retail therapy and meet a certain Rockstar. I think I will prolly do a part 2 or more let me know if you want one, btw this is not proofread or edited. Luke sings to you in this chapter and he sings ‘Can’t take my eyes off you’ by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, so you can listen to that if you want.
Warnings: I don’t think there’s any.
-
“Julie please, my parents and I just got into another huge fight about my art and I need moral support.”
“But my dad wants me to watch Carlos and I can’t bail again.”
“Please just get here! I need you, Jules,” Y/N radiated distress and it was clear to all the people in the Claire’s she was currently in.
“Fine, I can call my tía. I’ll be there in an hour, but you owe me an ice cream cone!” Julie said laughing, Julie had been Y/N’s best friend since they met in the seventh grade when they both accidentally wore the same shirt three days in a row and became friends, they often would laugh about it. Y/N told her where to meet and thanked her friend quickly hanging up the phone. She heaved all her shopping bags up and looked around.
“Why am I even in this store?!” She hmphed loudly drawing the attention of the other shoppers once again. She marched out of the store towards the food court where she was meeting Julie. A new store caught her eye and she stopped for a minute debating if she had enough room for more bags. She quickly made her mind up deciding that she could make room, after all, she had her dad’s Platinum Amex and she was not going to waste this opportunity. Y/N walked quickly to the entrance of the quaint book store. She turned into the book store slamming into something, it was just her luck to run into a wall today and I mean why not seeing as the rest of her life was falling to pieces around her. She fell onto her back looking at the ceiling her bags scattered around her.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” A boy came into her sight. He had shaggy brown hair and was wearing a light yellow apron with a name tag. Guess she didn’t run into a wall after all, but again that was just her luck. Her eyes began to water as all the emotion crashed upon her like a tsunami. She gritted her teeth pulling herself together.
“I’m fine,” Y/N looked at his name tag. “Luke.”
“Woah how’d you know my name?” Luke stepped back and Y/N let out a breath of laughter.
“Nametag,” She said as the tears began to pool in her eyes.
“What? Oh my god, why are you crying?” Luke looked at her panicked, he didn’t do the best around crying girls. She held up a thumbs up.
“I said I’m- I’m,” She coughed lightly trying her best to get out the words.
“Here let me help you up,” Luke stuck out his hand to her nervously. She grabbed it and using her other hand tried to wipe the onslaught of tears off her face. Luke kept a hold of her hand pulling her to the back section of the store.
“Um you can stay back here as long as you’d like,” He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and accidentally running into the desk behind him knocking a book off the desk he looked at it quickly.
“Here you can read this maybe it’ll make you feel better,” he picked the book up shoving the book into her arms. He ran out of the room quickly.
“Oh? I- Thank you!” Y/N called out into the store. Luke ran back into the room his arms heaving all the girl’s bags.
“How were you carrying this much?” He wheezed dropping the bags by her. She laughed wiping more tears away and smearing her mascara. Luke backed up again.
“I have to get back to work but just leave when you want and if you need anything I’ll be up at the front counter,” he nodded at the girl giving her a thumbs up, and walked out again. She sat at the back of the store composing herself. She picked up the book looking at the title. It was ‘The Outsiders’ and a pretty beaten up copy at that the book was filled up with loose pages, she flipped through it and set it down on the table next to her. She turned to grab her bags. She didn’t notice but the book slipped off the table into one of her bags. She also didn’t notice her journal/ sketchbook drop from her purse as she grabbed everything trying to flee as quickly as she could. She collected the rest going out into the main store and heading to the counter.
“Thanks again for the help,” She leaned on the counter gazing at the boy in front of her.
“No problem, um you can come back anytime, that is if you want to of course no pressure,” Luke stumbled over his words.
“Of course, yeah,” She nodded, but she was not going to come back, not after that humiliating experience. He smiled dopily at her.
“Can’t wait,” he leaned on the counter as well.
“Um yeah,” she felt a twinge of guilt at the totally sweet look he was giving her. Her phone chimed loudly and she pulled it out.
“That would be my cue to leave,” She turned quickly dashing out of the store making her great escape.
“Bye then,” he waved confused. Y/N pulled out her phone checking the text.
‘Where are you? I got here 10 minutes ago.’ - From Julie. Y/N sighed speeding up her strides to get to the food court quicker. She spied Julie sitting at a table in the middle of the court. She made her way through the throng of people and sat down at the table setting her bags down under it.
“What happened?” Julie asked eyeing the girl.
“I had a bit of a break down in a store, but a nice employee helped me out so I’m good,” Y/N laughed quickly.
“Are you okay, your eyes are really puffy. Do you need eye drops?” Julie stuck her hand in her purse and Y/N stopped her laughing again.
“I don’t need anything I’m good I promise, I just want to spend time with my best friend,” Y/N laid her hands down on the table in front of her. Julie rested her hands on top of the girls.
“If it’s any consolation I am supportive of your art,” Julie smiled sweetly. Y/N’s heart melted at the girl’s words, it did mean a lot to her.
“Thanks, Julie, now if you could convince my parents to do the same then that would be a dream come true,” a weak smile crept its way onto Y/N’s face. Julie squeezed her hand.
“How about we go get that ice cream and we can talk a bit and walk around, I think we both need it,” Julie stood up interlocking her hand with Y/N’s and pulling her towards the creamy treat.
-
It’d been a few weeks since the mall incident and things were not getting any easier for Y/N. Fights seemed to be on the daily now and the yelling was beginning to drive the girl insane. So she spent as little time as possible at her house only going over to sleep and do school work, other than that she was at the park painting or reading through the book that had slipped into her bag. She had planned on returning it to the booking clerk after she had read it, but now it had been three weeks and she had yet to. She would have hung out with Julie, but she was busy with her new band and nonstop rehearsals, they were set to debut at a spirit rally at school next week and they needed to be perfect. She still hadn’t met the band, but she had permission from Julie to crash anytime she wanted and she was planning on taking full advantage of this pass soon.
Her favorite pass time though was reading the book though so she had kept it, she loved to just read and look at the little notes and doodles in the margins, it really gave her a view of what was going on in Luke’s head. Although sometimes it was hard to decipher the hieroglyphics that was Luke’s handwriting.
She had discovered that the writings of S.E. Hinton were not the only thing hidden away in the eggshell-colored pages, there were journal entries and songs. She didn’t feel comfortable reading through the entries but she sure did love reading the works of musical genius, Luke’s, songs. They were so well written and heartfelt it helped her understand this boy that she barely knew, this boy so full of passion, feeling, emotions, and kindness.
And that’s where she was now reading a song of loss and regret under the cloudy sky. One that she related to personally, it reminded her of her parents and that even if she was having a hard time with them she would always love them even if they weren’t in the picture.
“If you could only know I never let you go,” she hummed along to the words, and sure she didn’t know the tune the words were initially meant for but she could sure try and make her own melody. But her phone interrupted her startling her out of her own little world within the words. She hurriedly wiped at her tear-stained cheeks and took the device out. It was 4:30, Julie and the Phantoms were at rehearsals right now and this was the perfect opportunity to infiltrate the jam session, so Y/N hopped on her bike and sped towards the Molina residence.
-
Y/N stopped on the cobblestone path leading to the studio loft and set her bike against the stone wall. She could already hear the music drifting from the open window of the studio. She crept to the porcelain white door and stood on her tiptoes looking through the long windows. Y/N could see Julie on the piano and three boys surrounding her. There was a tall lanky one wearing a pink shirt and had a fanny pack slung across his chest, he had blond hair and was on the drum, there was a raven-haired one clad in flannel and leather he was on bass guitar and another one that wasn’t facing Y/N, from what she could see he was a brunet and was wearing jeans and a blue sleeveless hoodie, and he was on a guitar she thought. Julie looked up and jumped a little but she just laughed it off stopping the music and gesturing for Y/N to come inside. Just as Y/N was about to move away from the door the brunet turned around her her heart stopped she could hear all the blood rushing and it was deafening.
It was Luke from the bookstore. Y/N felt herself pale and she quickly hid from view she slid down to sit against the door and the pavement, her eyes darted around looking for a place to hide, any place at all. But before she could move the door gave way and she fell onto her back. Julie had opened the door at the whole band formed a circle around the starfishes girl. Luke broke out into a fit of giggles.
“We have got to stop meeting like this,” he managed to get out through the laughter. Y/N deadpanned and scoffed.
“Tell me about it,” she sighed. Luke came to a stop and offered her a hand. She did not grab the hand though instead opting to roll onto her stomach and push herself up. Luke lowered his hand awkwardly and Alex snickered.
“You two know each other?” Julie asked looking between the pair.
“Kind of,” Y/N shrugged looking at the dopey grinned boy. “We met at the mall a few weeks ago, you remember Julie we had an ice cream cone that day.
Julie nodded and looked at Luke.
“Oh, so this is the guy you stole a book from!” Julie laughed at the panicked face you made. Luke sent Y/N a confused look.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry I’ve been meaning to return it,” Y/N dug through her backpack and pulled out the book victorious. She handed the book to Luke quickly and added a quick explanation and a sorry.
“Hey it’s okay, you kind of left something too, I had been wondering where it had disappeared to though,” he laughed and snatched Y/N’s journal from his bag handing it to her. Throughout their exchange Julie, Alex, and Reggie just stood awkwardly shuffling their feet.
“Oh! I thought my dad took this... Oh My god wait please tell me you didn’t look,” Y/N paled again. Luke and Y/N stared at each other for a minute silently.
“Um only a little,” Luke looked down to the ground guiltily. Julie coughed and clasped her hands together.
“Why don’t we play something for Y/N while she’s here!” She said sitting down at the piano. The rest of the boys picked up their instruments, Alex sitting at the drums, Reggie standing with his bass next to Alex and the door, and Luke standing next to the piano and the couch. Y/N took a seat on the couch farthest away from Luke, she was feeling a bit awkward.
“So this is Bright,” Julie said to Y/N as well as making the boys aware of what they’d be playing for her. Julie played the first notes on the piano taking a breath and smiling, she was really in her element right now and it showed.
“Sometimes I think I’m falling down. I wanna cry, I’m calling out,” Julie sang out hitting each note with perfection. Y/N got goosebumps on her arms while listening to Julie’s voice, it was really breathtaking.
“For one more try, to feel alive.” The boys still hadn’t played their instruments and Y/N looked at each of them confused. Luke sent her a wink and threw his guitar over his shoulder with finesse. Y/N smiled brightly and gave him thumbs up. She reached into her bag pulling out a paper and a pen. She wrote a 9.5
“What?! I deserve a 10,” Luke frowned strumming a note as Julie sang, “Life is a risk but I will take it, close my eyes, and jump.”
“It’s because you’re a show-off,” Y/N held out the f sound. Luke laughed and threw his head back.
“I’ll you show you what showing off really looks like,” he grinned at her. Just ask he said that Julie sang, “Come on let’s run!”
And that's when the boys hopped into action the music hitting Y/N like a wave. Luke played the guitar his hands moving effortlessly on the frets, he had so much passion in his eyes and Y/N couldn’t tear hers away. Luke looked at her holding her gaze intently.
“Life is a risk but we will take it, close my eyes and jump,” Luke’s voice came out gravely and husky, giving Y/N goosebumps once again. Reggie sang along with him dancing around the middle of the loft. Y/N felt like the breath was knocked out of her, the band was, to put it simply, dazzling. She had so many thoughts for them but she knew she it’d be impossible to tell them how amazing they were in words. Luke walked closer to Y/N kneeling in front of her while still playing his instrument.
“Come on let’s run!” Luke sang to her, the rest of the band along with him. He hit the high note with ease and Y/N breathed in deeply. Luke continued to sing, but he pulled her up quickly and they danced together, it was a mess of rocking together and lots of spinning on Y/N’s part while Luke jumped up and down still having to play. Reggie came in and joined them, and he and Alex shared a look. They all jumped around in a circle and Y/N jumped onto the couch singing along with the chorus.
“Shine together bright forever!” Y/N picked up her water bottle using it as a mic. Luke couldn’t keep his eyes off her, she was electric.
“In times that I doubted myself, I feel like I needed some help,” Luke sang and the only instrument playing was coming from the piano. Luke walked up to the couch below Y/N and they stared at each other.
“Stuck in my head, with nothing left,” Luke sang to her. Julie shot Y/N a look telling her to sing with him.
“And when I feel lost and alone, I know that I can make it home,” Y/N sang nervously fearing she’d mess up the words, but Luke just smiled at her and Y/N instantly felt at ease. Y/N looked away from Luke for a minute nodding at Julie and they sang together.
“Fight through the dark, and find the spark!!” Julie raising her voice and held out the note. Luke still couldn’t pull his gaze away and he lifted Y/N off the couch spinning her and making her squeal, she was set on the ground and she started dancing again.
“We will fight to shine together! Bright forever!” They all sang out and the song ended. Y/N laughed with glee and jumped up and down.
“You guys are amazing!” She smiled at Alex and hit Reggie’s shoulder, feeling at home with the guys already, even if they only met a few minutes ago.
“I’m gonna run inside the house and grab some snacks and we can hang out!” Luke ran to the door and exited. Y/N laughed, he didn’t even ask if she was free, she was but still. She enveloped Julie in a hug and they laughed together. Y/N’s phone rang in her pocket and she pulled it out and looked at the screen, her mom was calling. A deep frown set into her face and she clutched the phone.
“I’m gonna take this,” She said and made her way out sitting against the stone wall and taking a deep breath trying to prepare herself. She hit the answer button and held the phone to her ear.
“Hello?” She whispered.
“Y/N Y/L/N, you need to get home right now, you have been gone long enough. Get over yourself, you will not become an artist and you will do what we say we are your parents,” Y/N’s mom and dad said, not even letting Y/N get a word in. She breathed in deeply and shut her eyes tight willing herself not to cry.
“Mom, Dad, I’m not coming home,” Y/N got out her voice faltering. Her dad scoffed.
“Don’t be ridiculous you will come home immediately,” Her mom sighed. Y/N shook her head even though her parents couldn’t see.
“I’m not coming home not again and not ever, not until you support me,” she almost lost herself there but she shut her eyes again keeping the tears at bay, she wouldn’t cry for something she needed to do.
“I’m gonna be staying somewhere else from now on, I’ve already got all the stuff that I need and you won’t see me again until I prove you wrong.”
“People will like my art and even if they don’t I like my art and it’s what I’m passionate about and I won’t stop, I won’t give up, I can’t,” Y/N hung up the phone not even giving them a chance to respond, she clicked into her settings turning off her location and stuck her phone next to her. She brought her knees to her chest and she breathed deeply, she heard someone taking a seat next to her, she didn’t look assuming it was Julie.
“I know what it’s like,” Luke laid his head against the wall and put his hands at his sides. Y/N’s head shoots towards Luke.
“It’s you! I thought you were Julie,” Y/N said. Luke started to get up.
“I’m so sorry I’ll go,” he stood up all the way. Y/N grabbed his hand and pull him back down they were now sitting shoulder to shoulder and looking at each other. Y/N breathed in deeply again the tears finally going away.
“Stay.”
“I didn’t mean to eavesdrop drop, by the way,” Luke laid his hand on top of her hesitantly. She laughed shaking her head.
“It’s okay, can you tell me about it?” She asked him referring to what he said earlier. He nodded slowly trying to articulate what he was thinking.
“Okay, but bear with me I’m gonna start at the beginning,” he stated and Y/N intertwined their finger hoping to make him more comfortable.
“My mom and dad bought me my first guitar when I was about 8,” he started squeezing her hand.
“When you said beginning I didn’t think it’d be beginning, beginning,” she laughed. He sent her an annoyed look and she giggled laying her head on his shoulder.
“They didn’t get me into lessons but my neighbor ended up teaching me, I knew immediately that music was what I wanted to do and my parents didn’t quite feel the same but they let me continue playing regardless, but then I started a band called Sunset Curve when I was fifteen, that’s when they tried to take my guitar away,” he deflated slightly and Y/N nestled into him a bit more.
“Of course I hid it where we were practicing and didn’t tell them where, but the fights got so bad that I ran away, on Christmas Eve.”
“Now I’m staying here, but I get how it feels to not be supported by the ones who matter most, so if you need someone who knows what you’re going through you can come to me if you want,” he said facing her as she took her head off his shoulder. They were centimeters apart at this point, they were practically breathing in each other’s air.
“You’re staying at Julie’s?” She asked their noses almost touching.
“Yeah in the loft with Alex, he’s not living at home either, his parents weren’t cool after he came out to them,” he said sadly his eyes fluttering shut. She studied his face, he had freckles that you could only see close up, and there was a small scar just on the bridge of his nose.
“It’s cool that you guys have each other,” Y/N interlocked both their hands.
“You could have us too,” he whispered. “If you want us.”
“I’d really like that I think,” she moved in closer, her lips ghosting over his as he whispered, “I’m glad you want me, us.” They knew each other better than anyone, sure they hadn’t been together long but they’d seen into each other's world through music and writing and art, they saw the most intimate parts of each other. A crash from the garage and Alex fell through the crack in the door and he shot up looking like a deer in headlights. Luke and Y/N jumped away from each other and Y/N hit her bike knocking it over and the contents of her other bag on it spilled out, a mess of clothes and tampons came out and Luke looked horrified. His eyes fell upon a single bra and he stumbled back covering his eyes. Alex ran back into the studio slamming the door behind him. Y/N quickly scooped up her stuff putting it back into her bag making sure to zip it up this time. Luke still was on the ground covering his eyes.
“You can look now,” Y/N let out an airy laugh. Luke shook his head.
“I’m too embarrassed,” he sat up still covering his eyes. Y/N scooted over to him so that she was sitting in front of him on her knees, she brought her hands up to his slowly moving them away. She and Luke looking into one another’s eyes for the millionth time that night. She slowly tore her gaze away and stood up.
“I should probably go find a hotel to stay at,” she whispered picking up her bike. Luke jumped up grabbing her wrist.
“You can stay here! I mean if it’s okay with Julie, we’ll have to ask,” he said holding onto her hands and grinning at her.
“It’s okay with me!” They heard Julie’s voice from inside the studio. Y/N laughed pulling Luke into a tender hug, he didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her hips. She rested her head in the crook of his neck and whispered, “Thank you for everything Luke.”
“You’re welcome,” he kissed the top of her head lightly pulling her in tighter. Drops of rain began to dribble into them until it was a downpour. Luke tried to pull her inside but Y/N pulled him back and they spun together in the rain. Y/N let out a joyful and bubbly laugh that had Luke laughing along with her.
“Sing to me music man,” Y/N spun Luke around and dipped him. He grinned at her and began to sing.
“You’re just too good to be true,” they spun together again.
“Can’t take my eyes off of you, you’d be like heaven to touch, I wanna hold you so much,” Luke spun Y/N in and they rocked together. Y/N slid her arms up around Luke’s shoulders and they smiled at each other.
“At long last has arrived and I thank God Im alive,” he smiled to himself at the line. Y/N spun away and jumped in the rain and a puddle of water exploded under her baby blue converse.
“You’re just too good to be true, Can’t take my eyes off of you,” and the lyrics were true for Luke he could pull his gaze from the magnetic girl in front of him. She held out her hand and Luke grasped it as she spun in her back hitting Luke’s chest. Luke sang more to her and he was almost to the chorus now.
“There are no words left to speak. But if you feel what I feel, please let me know that it’s real.”
“You’re just too good to be true, can’t take my eyes off of you,” Luke hummed and Y/N got ready to sing the chorus with him.
“I love you, baby!” They both sang out at the top of their lungs.
“And if it’s quite alright, I need you baby! To warm a lonely night!” Y/N sang out Luke practically had heart eyes. This wasn’t like before in the studio during Bright, Y/N wasn’t hesitant at all she had the aura of a thousand burning stars and the confidence to show it.
“I love you, baby! Trust in me when I sayyy!” Y/N sang again and Luke continued this time.
“Oh, pretty baby! Don’t bring me down I pray,” Luke spun down onto his knees and held his hands out to Y/N.
“Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay! And let me love you, baby!” Luke sang pulling Y/N in they were once again close, chest to chest the rain streaming down their faces and their foreheads pressed together.
“Let me love you,” Luke sang in a whisper. Y/N hooked her arms around his neck and their lips were close, but not close enough to connect.
“You’re just too good to be true...” He closed in, their lips connecting for half a second but once again they were interrupted by a car beeping from in front of the house. Y/N pulled away quickly and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.
“That’s probably Julie’s dad with the pizza,” Luke said sadly knocking on the white door for the rest of the teens to come out.
“That was quite the show you two put on,” Reggie said as they came out. Y/N blushed which is something she didn’t normally didn't do so you knew she was very embarrassed.
“Shut up, dude,” Luke punched Reggie’s shoulder. They all began walking to the house, the rest of the teens holding umbrellas but Luke and Y/N were still exposed to the weather. They lagged behind a bit and Y/N took Luke’s hand into hers. They got to the door and they were the only ones out there. The rain pitter-pattered against the covering of the porch. Y/N and Luke faced each other and Y/N smiled at him.
“Thanks again for everything, Luke.”
“It’s my pleasure,” Luke stepped up to her.
“How did you know that was my favorite song?” She grinned at him.
“I have my ways, star,” he cooed and Y/N smiled at the nickname. She stood on her toes and pecked him on the cheek and she dashed inside. Luke stood there alone and touched his cheek softly and grinned, she’d be the death of him, but he was ready to do anything for her. He was falling, and falling hard for that matter.

6 years. It’s been 6 years since you last saw Luke Patterson. A lot’s changed since the day you left him standing in that driveway, on your way to a new life for yourself. Ever since then, you swore to focus on yourself and your career, even if it got lonely sometimes. It didn’t take long for you to find the best friend’s you could’ve ever asked for, even if they weren’t the boys. Sometimes you thought about them, wondering how they were doing and if they still thought about you, too.
Sure, you left them behind, but just because they weren’t part of your life anymore didn’t mean that you didn’t think about them sometimes, in the little obscure things in the world. Every time you saw something Star Wars related, you couldn’t help but think of the nights you would let Reggie come over to marathon the movies with you. Without fail, every time you went to the beach you thought about how much Bobby hated the sand and the seagulls, and whenever you heard Dancing Queen you were reminded of Alex’s 17th birthday, when you woke him up by playing the song for him. What was the worst of them all, though, was when you went into record shops. The smell and ambience would never fail to bring memories of spending hours searching for a specific record with Luke to your mind.
Despite all of that, though, you had tried your hardest to put the past behind you. You had a band now, friends to keep you afloat. And one of them was none other than Julie Molina. Once upon a time, you were friends, and then you met the boys and you drifted. There were no hard feelings, but when you reunited in your first year in college after being placed down the hall from one another in the dorms, you became as thick as thieves in no time.
From there, you met Aidan in your English Lit class and Julie met Damien in her musical theory class, and from there your band grew. Speaking of your band, you had just come back to LA from the last leg of your tour, which was in Europe. You loved seeing your fans and interacting with them in person, but all that travelling was generally exhausting. So, here you were, wandering the main streets you grew up on with your songbook clutched in your hand, looking for some inspiration.
You turned onto a busy street, old and beautiful shops, boutiques, and uniquely decorated diners lining each side. Walking with the flow of people, you looked around before coming to a stop at an old, 80s themed red and white pizza shop. And as if the past 6 years never happened, you felt the cold from all those nights you broke curfew seeping into your bones, hearing the laughter of your best friends echoing in your ears as you all sat in the same booth, cracking jokes and eating pizza. You could almost see all of you squished into the booth near the window, duct tape holding the leather of the seats together.
And, taking a deep breath, you went inside. Everything was the same as it always had been. The same jukebox playing old and upbeat songs in the back, the red and white checkered tiles that matched the theme of the restaurant, the smell of the pizza. Slowly, you walked up to the counter and ordered a few slices from the old man with a kind smile before sliding into the same booth you used to sit in all those years ago, pressed between the window and Luke’s shoulder.
The same hesitance came back as you put your palms flat onto the table, feeling the nostalgic memories flowing through you. And, as if it were magic, you could feel the inspiration coming back to you. A thousand ideas flew through your brain and you had to scramble to write them all down. A new album theme, new snippets of song lyrics, everything. You were still struggling to write them all down fast enough when your pizza came.
All you could do was send a smile to the waitress that delivered your food to you, taking one of the slices into your hand and taking a bite with your eyes focused on the pages of your songbook.
From across the diner, a pair of eyes were trained on your slouched figure. He’d been looking at you since you walked into the diner. Not in a stalker-ish way, but in an ‘I haven’t seen you in so long and I’m shocked you’re here but you look better than I could’ve ever imagined’ kind of way. Luke didn’t know what to do. His heart was screaming at him to just get up, just get up and walk over to you and ask you how you’ve been and if you had a boyfriend now, but his body refused to let him move.
Every minute from the moment you left, Luke prayed that you would come back to him. But now that you were here, a mere 10 feet from him, he didn’t know what to do or say. He was frozen in his seat, watching your pencil furiously scratch against the paper in the familiar way it used to when you wrote songs together, watching your hair fall over your shoulder and block your view of the window before you frustratedly tucked it behind your ear again.
It was all sudden, seeing you here. Even if his friends told him he just had to move on, Luke never could. Not from you. It was painful, realizing you loved someone after they were already gone from your life. So he never did move on. He stayed in that hurt, wondering how different life could’ve been. How different everything could’ve been if he wasn’t a coward, if he had just realized how he felt sooner. But he didn’t. And now he was stuck.
Sooner than he could register, his body finally began to move and he was picking up his things, bringing them over to your booth. He felt his heartbeat pick up as he smelled the lavender of your shampoo, a smell that would forever be ingrained in his mind and his memories. Nervously, he stuttered out, “Uh, h-hey.”
Looking up at the sound of a familiar voice, your breath caught in your throat when your e/c eyes locked with Luke’s familiar green irises. Your eyes widened and you could feel your throat constricting as you let out a meek, “Hi,”
“C-can I sit here?” The boy - who was a man now - motioned to the seat across from you and you nodded politely, not trusting your voice right now. As he sat down you took a sip of your water, moving your focus from your songbook to Luke.
His hair was a little longer than it was the last time you saw it, still unkempt with a beanie to cover it. He was wearing his ‘Rush’ muscle tee, and you wondered why he was still wearing them. But then again, Luke never really wore anything else when he reached high school. His eyes were trained on you and you wanted to shrink under his gaze, the awkward tension becoming suffocating.
Luke spotted your songbook and nodded to it. “You come here for inspiration?”
“Uh, yeah,” you cleared your throat, sheepishly looking at Luke. “I just finished the last leg of my tour and I wanted to get a head start on my next album and this place- it brings up a lot of happy memories, so why not come here?”
Laughing to himself, Luke shook his head as a smile formed on his lips. “Like the time Reggie tripped when he was bringing the pizza over to us and had to replace his shirt because he got pizza sauce all over it?”
The resurfaced memory brought a smile to your face as you laughed and nodded. “Yeah, exactly like that. I guess when places like this have such a strong emotional presence in your memories, it’s not hard to be inspired, is it?”
“No, I guess it isn’t.” And just like that, you felt the tension melt away as if nothing ever happened. As if you didn’t confess your love and walk away, as if you didn’t leave the band and stop talking to your childhood best friends. As if Luke didn’t spend years waiting for you and as if you didn’t spend years trying to push him from your memory with all you had and still failing.
You joked around and laughed like you were still 17, blind in love and trying to hide it with all you had. But things were different, you both knew that. You knew he probably had a girlfriend, and it was probably still Thalia, and you were alone, lying to yourself and pretending that you actually got over Luke. No one knew that every sad song you wrote was because of him, or maybe they did and just never told you.
None of that stopped you from accepting Luke’s offer to walk around the park a few blocks away, though. The sky was being painted an array of blues, pinks and purples, captivating you as you walked around the park with Luke. The fresh air lightened your heart and made you feel happy, the lull in conversation making for a peaceful silence.
As you walked down the asphalt path in the trees, you noticed that Luke stopped walking. Turning around, you saw him standing still, an upset look on his face. Taking a few steps toward him, your face contorted into a look of confusion as you asked, “Luke? Are you okay?”
“I was wrong, Y/n.”
His reply sent you further into the depths of confusion and you asked, “What? What do you mean?”
“I was wrong about everything,” Luke said, looking up from his shoes and into your eyes. “I thought- for so long I thought I was right. I thought I loved Thalia, but I didn’t. I-I don’t.”
The boy continued to talk, coming a little closer. “I mean- even when we were together I knew I didn’t love her but- but I pushed it away because I thought I could be happy with her. And for a little while, I was. But after high school she just… left me. Said she was going to go to New York for school instead of here because she met a guy there. I never saw her after that.”
Your features softened out of sympathy as you said, “Oh, Luke. I’m sorry she did that to you,”
“No, no, there’s no need to apologize, it’s not like it was your fault. Besides, it was years ago.” He shrugged, shoving his hands in his jean pockets. “It’s what she told me before she left that stuck with me, though. It just… I don’t know, it got to me and I couldn’t figure out why. Not until now.”
“What did she say?” You asked slowly, wondering where the conversation was going from here.
“She-” he sighed, pulling a hand from his pocket to rub his face. “She told me that she knew she couldn’t be truly happy with me because I would always be in love with you. I thought she was just using it as an excuse to justify leaving me and that she was wrong but…”
You wanted to say something, but you didn’t know what. You stood there, your feet glued to the pavement as you watched Luke take another step closer, stopping mere inches from you. Again, your breath hitched and your eyes glanced at his lips as he said, “For years I told myself that she was wrong, that I was right and that I didn’t love you, but I’ve been lying to myself, N/n. I was wrong,”
It was like someone had their hand clamped around your heart. You could feel it practically beating out of your chest and you wondered if Luke could hear it as loud as you could, but you pushed that thought away long enough to take a breath and, with a low voice, ask, “Can I kiss you?”
In the same tone and volume, Luke answered, “I thought you’d never ask,”
Within seconds, Luke pulled you in by the waist and you wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling his lips down to meet yours. For years, you could only dream about what it felt like to kiss Luke, and none of them could ever live up to actually kissing him. You felt like you were a giddy school girl again as you stood on your tiptoes to kiss your first crush, Bradley Baker. But this kiss was so much more different, so much more special.
The worries of tomorrow washed away in the moment, in the feeling of Luke’s lips on yours. A tidal wave of happy and loving emotions washed over you, basking in the close proximity and Luke’s body heat. When you pulled away for air, Luke wrapped his arms around your waist and you couldn’t help but smile. “I’ve been waiting to do that for almost 10 years,”
“Was it worth the wait?” Luke asked teasingly, resting his forehead on yours.
Humming, you closed your eyes and nodded. “It definitely was.”
Despite how long you’d waited to kiss Luke, how long you’d loved him, how long you’d spent away from him, you believed that it was worth the wait. Waiting was painful and nearly suffocating, but it was worth it. It was all worth it because now, after all that time, you were able to be together.

Naps - Luke Patterson
Request: Hey!! Could you do “You’re so cute when you’re half asleep like this.” with Luke?? 🥰🥰
A/N: I wrote this and then I wrote a second version 😭😭 so I answered this ask twice technically.
Julie and the Phantoms Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Good girlfriend status dictated that you should’ve been sitting at the bar or standing right in the front watching your boyfriend and his band rehearse for the show they were playing at the hole-in-the-wall venue they had booked for the first show of their California tour. It wasn’t that you weren’t proud of them or that you didn’t scream all the lyrics to their songs until your throat went hoarse every time you saw them perform live. It was really just that you were running late. Really, really late. But Stanford wasn’t going to let you out of an interview with the Dean of Admissions because your boyfriend was playing a show two hours away and you didn’t want to drive in the dark.
So you were forced to show up late to soundcheck, flashing the backstage pass that Luke had given you the day before, and walking backstage to where their stuff was set-up. Or more accurately, where they had dumped their backpacks when they first came in. You could hear them rehearsing, the opening chords of Late Last Night, their closer, echoing in the back hall as you dropped your bag next to Luke’s and dropped onto the couch. It was probably weird to say that the sounds of 90’s rock music lulled you to sleep but it was true. Maybe it was just Luke’s voice but there was nothing like listening to your boyfriend’s music after a stressful day to help you calm down.
It helped you calm down so much, it seemed that you were almost totally asleep when the music died down to nothing, footsteps carrying down the hall as Luke came into the small backstage area with Reggie, Alex, and Bobby.
“Man, that was so awesome,” Luke said, lifting the hem of his shirt to wipe away the sweat on his forehead, pushing his hair back in the process, “wait till it’s packed tonight!”
“We totally killed it,” Reggie agreed.
As Luke fixed his shirt back into place he smiled, taking in the sight of you laying on the couch, back to them. “Thank god that was only rehearsal, considering somebody missed it.” He said, loud enough that even in your nearly-asleep state you could hear him. Luke grabbed the back of the couch as he slowly lowered himself to sit down on you, forcing you onto your back as he sat halfway on your stomach, keeping some of his weight off you.
You groaned, refusing to open your eyes as you tried to swat at Luke and missed, by a longshot. “Luke, get off.” You hissed. He dropped a little more of his weight, shifting around and wiggling his butt on your lap. “Luke!” You groaned.
Luke laughed, grabbing one of your hands before you could hit him again. “You’re so cute when you’re half asleep like this,” he teased.
“You’re so cute when you’re being an asshole,” you grumbled, trying to pull your arm away.
“Alright, alright,” the weight lifted off of you and suddenly Luke was grabbing your other hand, pulling you into a sitting position before flopping back down on the couch, letting you lean against him. “How was the interview?”
“I don’t wanna go to college,” you bemoaned, though it was really an empty statement. “How about I just like...become a roadie for you guys?”
“Alright but, we can’t pay you.” Luke replied, brushing your hair away from your face and kissing the top of your head. You were halfway to falling asleep again, unbothered by Luke’s post-rehearsal sweatiness and more so just happy to be with him. The day had been stressful and, while school was super important to you, the thought of being away from Luke was a little unbearable. “Hey,” he kissed you again, seemingly aware that you were upset. “It’s okay, we’ve got all summer, touring around California.”
“I know,” you muttered, tucking yourself further into his side, trying to chase those last fleeting feelings of sleep, “I just really hate the thought of being away when September comes around.”
“I’m sure a few hundred miles won’t change the amount of time you see Luke,” Alex piped up, finally reminding the two of you that you weren’t alone backstage.
Reggie and Bobby laughed as you perked up, moving away from your boyfriend to hug them and Alex, telling them all that you were sorry for missing the rehearsal but how excited you were for the actual show tonight. “I saw the marquee, you guys sold out?”
“It’s not a huge venue,” Bobby stressed, ever the realist of the group. If only because your boyfriend always had such lofty dreams and Alex and Reggie were always pulled into them with him. Someone had to keep a level head and it wasn’t you.
“It’s still amazing that you sold out.” You insisted, “I mean, it’s a huge step.”
“That’s what I’ve been saying.” Luke piped up, drawing your attention back to him. “It’s gonna be awesome, this tour. Just think of all the possibilities that’ll follow.”
“Let’s get through tonight.” Alex replied.
“Well, I can’t wait to watch you guys perform tonight.” You mentioned, looking back at Luke.
“If you stay awake,” he teased, laughing when you glared at him.
“It was a long drive!”
“We’re trying to make rock music here and my girlfriend is in the back snoozing.” He looked at the guys as he spoke, trying not to give you any attention as you swatted at him again.
“I already apologized!”
Luke wrapped his arm around you, pulling you back into his side so that he could kiss the side of your head again. When you turned your head to look at him, he stole a quick kiss before the guys could complain about you being too “gross” in front of them. You could still feel that heaviness that came with being tired but you knew there was no way you were getting a nap before the show. You’d push through the exhaustion of the day until you were alone with Luke tonight. For now, you would just enjoy being with your friends and your boyfriend.

A touch starved ghost Luke headcanon? But he can now touch the reader? (After the Orpheum)
ah, yes the angst
Tumblr media
so i feel like you were helping julie clean the studio and you found the cd
so you both decided to listen to it hoping it would cheer julie up
then their i are three boys (crazy turn of events am i right?)
so of course you’re dragged into the chaos of the adventure and someone become co-manger to flynn because you can see them
so that requires being around the boys often and we all know luke feels the need to talk to everyone he can
“do you like music?”
“what’s your favorite song?”
“favorite ice cream flavor?”
then he starts this game where before every practice you have to answer a question about yourself
so obv y’all get close and start having fEeLiNgS
and then one day luke makes a joke about something so you went to hit shoulders with him and it went right through him
you thought luke was going to cry
you were upset y’all couldn’t touch, but luke was a wreck because he was slowly realizing he couldn’t touch his parents or you or even julie and he was having a hard time with it
so you tried not to even touch julie when he was around
that didn’t exactly work
and he’d reach out for you then suddenly his whole face would drop
and it kept going like this and you felt bad because he could be with a ghost he could actually touch and not you
but he wasn’t
so when you found out they had to cross over, you were upset but you thought maybe it would be better for all of them
so everything happeneds and you and flynn watched backstage as the boys appear then disappeared
and went home kinda a wreck
you were going to julie’s house but decided you just couldn’t
until you receive a text “udheidbeb now hehehehhe 911”
so you hurried over their because you thought julie needed you
you walk through the studio and almost cried when you saw reggie tears
and then it hit you
reggie, alex, and luke were standing up around the studios
you were lost but luke wanted to see if he could touch you like he touched julie
so hes’s basically running to you and you’re in shock
then two arms are wrapped around you and you understand everything so much better
“you’re so cold”
“you’re so warm”
reggie broke up the hug cause he wanted one too but you weren’t worried because you could touch now
luke was super clingy for a few weeks after cause he was scared it would go away but once he realized it wasn’t, it was more casual

Oooooo jealous Luke hc pretty please?? 💗
i love writing jealousy you don’t even know!!
Tumblr media
so you and luke wouldn’t be dating but it was like an unspoken rule y’all were going to give y’all a shot
so proms around the corner, and a miscommunication lead luke to believe he didn’t need to ask and you thought he didn’t want to go with you
it was messy and weird but you would eventually talk it out... after the incident
you were hanging around with the guys, joking and stuff when this kid from your class walks up
“hey (y/n), you got as date to prom yet?”
luke was jealous, he wouldn’t say otherwise, but he was also kidman prideful that he was your date you know?
and then your pull out the
“i’m not sure, why do you ask?”
alex was scared for everyone in the schools life
luke was suddenly tapping his foot on the floor and crossing his arm over his chest
he wouldn’t say anything in front of the kid, he was jealous but he wasn’t making a sense
and then the kid reached to touch your arm and suddenly the blue lockers were red with everything else
who does this kid think he is? touch his (y/n)
okay maybe not his, but in a fugitive way yes
“uhm-“
“we were talking about going together, right?”
luke swung his arm over your shoulder, not making a scene but getting his point across clearly
“oh, i’m sorry i didn’t know”
“ah don’t worry about it, KID”
he emphasized the word so harshly you don’t his tongue would give out
once the kid was gone, you turned to look at luke with that disapproving look and he was a puddle on the floor
“okay, but he touched your arm!”
“this isn’t the 1800s, people can touch my arm without trying to seduce me”
once you both had time to talk you spoke about prom and figured it out
when another guy asked if you had a date, luke finally got to feel prideful instead of jealous

Romantic Luke headcanon?
thank you for the request luv!! im really bed with romantic gestures so i hope this is good!!
Tumblr media
so luke and you had probably been distant with school, work, and the band so he wants to do something sweet
it probably started with him at your locker with a giant smile on his face
“and how are you today?”
“good, why?”
he would shrug and hold your bag for you while you got everything together
you’d see him throughout the day and he’d been sweet and gentle but you don’t want to question it cause it super nice having him around again
then he insist you ride with him and he claims he’s going to take you home
fun fact: he doesn’t take you home
you drive around some weird backroads playing every favorite song you’ve both ever had
then he pulls up to this abandon park (luke patterson loves abandoned places and i’ll die on his hill) and tells you to wait
he opened your door with a cheap picnic basket that’s about the fall apart but you don’t notice that
“picnic?”
“when did you get so romantic?”
“about a week ago, how does it look on me?”
so your find a park bench and open the picnic basket and expect to find food (like a normal person) but instead it’s canvases and paints
“we’re going to paint!”
you couldn’t tell if you thought he was crazy for not but you can’t say no
so you both sit around painting and laughing with each other when luke sets his paint brush aside and shows his work
it’s a black background with swirls in different all across the canvas, in one of the corner it looked to be completely protected from the chaos on the rest of the canvas
“that’s how you makes me feel, safe from the danger”
(i would bawl, and i’m a stone cold bitch with romance)
you’d ride back home and joke and shit like that
you keep the painting on your dresser to always remember your own safety net
