I love the college of winterhold. everyone there is casually deranged and there's like an alarming number of students and staff who threaten you immediately when they meet you. it's always one of the first questlines I do. which makes it even funnier when you get made the arch-mage of the college. I'm level 12 and got through this questline knowing exactly 3 spells. what do you mean you want me to lead the college. this school CANNOT be an accredited institution

had gastro for five full miserable days. nothing left in my body. had vivid hallucinations about deadlines that i was missing and how mad the mayor is going to be with me but they were all so based in the real material facts of my job that i think i just saw the future. anyway today i've held down a peach apple puree pouch and a lime bubly so i guess it's back to the office tomorrow.

"You're not doing enough for Palestine" is something I've gotten a lot on TikTok, and I've seen a lot to Arab/MENA (specifically Palestinian) creators.

Not all activism is loud, some is silent. Some are regular donations of aid, some are protesting without sharing you were there, some are wearing keffiyeh everyday in solidarity, some are supporting Palestinian local businesses, some are boycotting.

And if you're not doing all of those while being vocal and posting everyday, you're not doing enough either.

Mixed cities- especially Jaffa- are the first to take a hit (in tourism, etc.) during wars, showing how Outsiders just assume it’s more dangerous here, completely missing the point. After the recent terror attack, came Ben Gvir’s out of touch response- that the nearby mosque had to have something to do with it and thus should be destroyed. Then came out the phone call recording, showing that people in the mosque are the ones who reported about it immediately to the police. #ask #alienmythologist #bc i didn't get my license until i was 23 #after college when i moved home i was v limited in the part time jobs i was looking at #which is how i ended up submitting so many applications to the university my parents lived within walking distance of #which is how i first got started working in international admissions #which is the career i am still in now 11 years later #so #also the soccer thing:#when i was in the states as a kid i was on the local girls soccer team every fall and spring #and being an active sports kid was v much a part of my identity #but when we moved to germany my school only had a mixed gender soccer team #and the little german boys took soccer WAY MORE SERIOUSLY than i did #and they were all much better players than me #so i was only the second girl on the team and the other one was another german girl who'd known them all for years and spoke fluid german #so i felt super self-conscious and intimidated by my teammates #and also that fall was when my grandmother was dying so my mom was back in the states and my dad was busy most weekends #so i missed a lot of games #and after that one fall season i stopped playing soccer for years and kind of turned away from sports in general #i still played jv basketball and softball but it wasn't the same #and sometimes i wonder who i would have been if i had been so intimidated by that team

Finishing the last fifty pages of Leah on the Offbeat at 4am because I'm feeling gay and nostalgic

#so i bought leah on the offbeat like. last winter. maybe two winters ago. from a cute local bookshop #and then just never read it until last summer #when i had a lot of free time at my summer camp job so i spent it reading #and i finished the entire first ari and dante book #and then started leah #its not my favorite but it is cute and i like that leah is fat and bi like me #but tonight i watched a youtuber react to love simon #and i remembered that i still had a little left in the leah book #so i just picked it up and finished it #i really liked the ending tbh. it was very cute #my favorite 4am activity. completing my unfinished business #if ghosts are a thing because of unfinished business then when i die its just gonns be because of my tbr #im gonna come back as a ghost and immediately head to the library brcaude i know why tf im a ghost #its because i finish books until the last fifty pages and then just oeave it for almost a year #what kind of unhinged shit is that #anyway if youre a teen or looking for a lighthearted read then Leah on the offbeat is a solid choice

I'm finally taking a fucking vacation from my job next week

#I've never gotten the chance to use my vacation time at work before quitting #but Im not currently able to leave where I work and I'll lose my PTO on my anniversary date (sept 13th)#so I decided to say fuck it an use ut the first week of September #wish I could have saved it for the second week since my birthday is September 15th but again my PTO gets reset the 13th #so this will have to do #I'm not going on an actual vacation this year. just planning various enjoyable activities and day trips throughout the week #Im hoping on the first day to attend a local flea market #and the next day or two to go swimming before the pool in my apartment complex closes for the year #I also plan to visit a historical town thats about a half hour away from where I live #and I'm definitely going to sleep in a lot of these days cause I need to catch up on some sleep finally #I'll probably draw on my less busy days #and maybe I can knock out a chapter or 2 of the story I've been writing #tbh luck is never with me so the chances of me actually getting to do half of this stuff is slim #but at least I can say I have plans #I'm gonna try n do this stuff even if I have to go alone #I hate waiting around for others so I can go out and have a good time #like yeah some of these activities are better with other people #but people often find excuses to get out of hanging out or going places. or they're busy with work #and I don't want to waste the 7 days Im gonna have off so Im gonna try n do something meaningful during them #the weather also will effect how my plans turn out. every fucking year we get another "no seriously tumblr is dying for REAL this time" scare and at this point i'm just taking an exhausted drag of a cigarette and staring out the window knowing damn well you are not even going to get me looking at another social media platform until either every last one of my beloved mutuals jumps ship to the same alternative or i log on here one day and there are actually red flashing lights all over my dash and an alarm blaring and a robotic voice telling me This Site Will Self Destruct In 24 Hours

#this is legit the longest ive been on any social media #i had a myspace back in the day for all of a week before i abandoned it #i spent about 6 years on livejournal #a couple years on fb before jumping ship and deleting my account #never bothered with twitter or instagram #but ive been on tumblr for something like 14 or 15 years even if i havent actively posted for all of that #but i have been here lurking #tumblr is the only place ive felt comfortable and able to control what i see on my dash since lj #i do miss lj sometimes #it definitely wasnt the same as tumblr but i liked it there...until it died #i hope i dont have to find another social media because as far as i can tell tumblr is the last bastion of anonymous social media #and thats part of why i stuck around #that and being able to curate my dash and actually have things show up in chronological order #i cant stand the whole algorithm “best/most relevant posts first” thing other social media forces on users #i pick what and who i want to see not the algorithm!#also im such an unhinged feral little gremlin now from being on tumblr so long that i dont think i could integrate on any other social medi #it would be like releasing a feral creature into a busy mall or something #possibly amusing for bystanders or outsiders #horrifying for the patrons and staff #and stressful for the feral creature who would probably end up scurrying around haphazardly and scratching and or biting several people #before finding a safe dark hole possibly made by destroying walls in order to hide and using whatever it can find to build a nest #after which it lives on whatever food court leftovers it can scrounge up and haunts the mall terrifying staff and patrons alike #until it becomes part of local legend #a cryptid that teenagers use to scare each other and college students use in hazing rituals #and uh...that up there is a good indication of why i will not thrive on other social media #but im leaving it because its funny to me

the city of Ottawa spent decades developing a company town out Downtown for an industry that has adapted and evolved to the new world order, leaving the city struggling to "revitalize" the neighbourhood to "help local* businesses"

are they increasing transit to make getting downtown easier? are they encouraging businesses to open more than 11am-3pm M-F? are they asking the tens of thousands of people who live in the neighbourhood what services/businesses they want/need and then incentivizing those businesses to open in the neighbourhood? are they encouraging businesses that offer activities beyond "eat overpriced mediocre food and get drunk on overpriced mediocre booze"? are they offering parking or transit passes to public servants?

nope.

they're cutting transit, pandering to the businesses who could not be fucked to adapt, and forcing the same number of workers into a fraction of the office space despite most of the data showing that WFH is just as or more productive than office work, and putting extra expenses on workers whose wages have not kept up with inflation who now have to pay for transportation and before/after school childcare on top of being expected to spend $20-$30 a day on burnt coffee, stale sandwiches, and soggy salads at businesses whose owners want you to torpedo your budget, work/life balance, and quality of life just to line their pockets

#(*local here meaning “multi-billion dollar foreign corporations with storefronts near gov't offices”#more often than it means actually locally owned independent businesses)#honestly what downtown ottawa needs is activities #escape rooms. indoor mini putt. bowling alley. skee ball. craft/hobby shops.#things that residents of the neighbourhood have to go out to the suburbs for #PUT THe LIBRARY FUCKING BACK #MAKe TRANSIT ReLIABLe AND FUNCTIONAL #(full disclosure I don't live in downtown ottawa anymore & i'm not a public servant so i technically have no skin in this game #but i trauma-bonded with that city. it's my home and I want to move back there. i am invested in it not sucking when I do get back)
