the way teenage bounty hunters DESERVED a second season. like what a tightly written, quippy, funny little show with so much heart. there’s so much good going on in it but things I particularly love:
Twin themes!! There’s so much good foreshadowing surrounding the big reveal (iykyk) and there’s also so much DOUBLING. Double lives especially is a big theme. Like, Debbie hiding Dana; sterling and Blair hiding their bounty hunting; the (functional) froyo shop being bowser’s bounty hunting lair; Terrance the lone wolf bounty hunter and bowser with his little “teen white savior” teammates; Yolanda’s sister who is a perfect foil for her; miles hiding Blair from his family; sterling hiding april from Blair…and then april hiding sterling period.
And I guess the doubling is kind of showing like, here are all the possibilities and here’s what happens when we let love in and here’s what happens when we shut it out
so much good stuff about being from the American south. As someone who grew up in the south and who grew up visiting close family in Atlanta…it is cool as fuck the way the south is portrayed in all of its complexity. The show does not shy away from issues of race, religion, SES, etc SPECFICALLY in Atlanta and manages to do it in a way that doesn’t come across as heavy handed. This show could ONLY be set in the south—it would be a fundamentally different show in any other setting
Also, like I said with the doubling points above, this show is full of secrets and secret keeping!!! But yet a fundamental point of the show is that being silenced is one of the worst things that can happen to a human being. There’s a scene where Blair is telling sterling that her dad yelled at her and that the worst part of all is that he told her to Be Quiet! And like in some ways that scene highlights what a loving household Blair has grown up in that the one of the worst things her Dad has ever said to her is be quiet (not even shut up)…but it really made me be like wow being told to stop questioning and be quiet IS something terrible. It’s a denial and a violation of our right to use our voices
and like it’s not a coincidence that in the final ep Dana gags sterling. Because the way sterling is talking to her is powerful and you can tell it is making her hesitate and question her whole life
so yeah anyway watch teenage bounty hunters! Or if you haven’t in a while, it’s definitely worth a rewatch
#Once I started listing doubles I couldn’t stop#This show is sooooo good#Like objectively excellent#Like Shakespearean drama levels technical goodness#Also I am a twin so I extra love all the twin stuff#teenage bounty hunters#teenage bounty hunters spoilers#I will tag spoilers even tho this show is old#Sterling wesley#blair wesley#April stevens#sterling x april#hope no one minds the relationship tag I just think this post is of interest

For my birthday... read my webcomic! It's literally free! (Unless you want books. Those are not free)
It's beautiful, it's gentle, it's funny, they're canonically t4t and gay... And it's about time traveling vampires solving supernatural mysteries!
I've spent thousands of hours writing and drawing it, and it's really good! I'm not biased!
It's on hiatus right now and coming back in 2 months, so it's the perfect time to get caught up
#i felt weird putting this in there so I didnt but I've also received recognition for excellence in writing#and was nominated as a fan favorite on webtoon canvas...#so like not only do i work super hard but its just really good!#im not ashamed of claiming that i think my work is well done. if i didn't think i was doing a good job why would i do it#buuuut. something about being like please read my comic im literally so good at comics feels weird to me#even though i think that. in my brain#i dont want to imply that there is some objective or tangible goodness to my work simply for receiving some accolades#its nothing other than some accolades. whether or not someone likes it is up to them#so i guess to me it just feels superfluous#but genuinely I love my comics...#i re read them all the time. and i enjoy them!#theres things i would change and probably will change when i go to print#but i did what I could with the time and energy I had#and when it comes back... oh boy.#my friends have agreed its the best stuff ive ever written. it's literally so good...#im so excited to share.#still not fully ready to officially commit to the return date#but i am gunning for it!#webcomics#webtoon#time and time again#its my birthday!#idk wtf to tag this as. im 27 now...#read my comic#LOL

Films watched (1990s): THE WINSLOW BOY (1999); dir. & screenplay David Mamet (adapted from the play by Terence Rattigan). Starring Nigel Hawthorne, Jeremy Northam, Rebecca Pidgeon & Gemma Jones.
"No, not justice. Right. Easy to do justice. Very hard to do right."
#tbs old films watched#the winslow boy#gif#quotes#nigel hawthorne#jeremy northam#rebecca pidgeon#gemma jones#guy edwards#catherine winslow#robert morton#1990s#period drama#book adaptations#my gifs#terence rattigan#david mamet#i finally got around to watching this last year; it's been on my radar since 99#anyway in short i loved it far too much#it keeps to the play in refusing to add the described court scenes (a natural choice for a film) but also eschews theatricality#and therefore is a very naturalistic observational piece that is extremely low key but also more immediate and less 'period'#plus as ever with rattigan the sharp character studies as the case puts huge strain on the winslow family#and issues of justice and media storms that never go away#with a tiny but excellent cast#including sev fave actors. in short. it was made to appeal to me so i can't be objective#not for those who like a lot of flash bang action in their films#but absolutely excellent if you enjoy small scale character pieces beautifully done with much left to ponder after#also so many doors. the viewer is very much an observer; we are always peering round or standing in doorways

do other fields have this thing where 80% of people who are, in theory, mid-career experienced professionals are barely capable of performing fairly basic tasks without personalized guidance, or is software development just suffering under the curse of an entire generation being told to go into the field if they want to earn enough money to pay rent
#got off work two hours late today#because i was helping somebody with such daunting bugs as#'ah see the issue here is that you sent your content-type header to application/vnd.ms-excel for some reason.'#'you told the server that you are sending it an Excel file. like. an old Excel file. and you aren't. so why did you do that?'#'ah. I see. you copied some 12-year-old code and reused it without considering what it does? well. there's your problem.'#also 'one problem I see is that you spelled company wrong. yes. it has an M in it. right. put an M there. an M. like Monkey. having the hc that minato is ace is incredibly funny sometimes when you think about how ryoji is oh so very bi because it's like. "ah. death stole my ability to be attracted to people," in the same way that ryoji stole minato's eye color and energy level. like wow, thanks ryoji, you just keep finding things to steal from minato!
#persona 3 spoilers#minato arisato#hc and au nonsense#lizzy speaks#happy international asexuality day to my fellow aces out there i hope you know that you are loved!!! 🎊🎉🥳#i like viewing minato with the lens of him being gay / ace. esp bc it stems from my own experiences so it's fun to look at-#him from that perspective even if that's not what was intended by atlus y'know?#and im sure others have other hcs from me that are informed by their own life experiences and i think that's great ^_^#something that i found interesting while playing FES was how. stilted? minato's animations felt when hugging the girls#you could definitely go with the perspective that it's a graphical limitation or they didn't have time to polish the animations#and that's def true!! but sometimes i see the hug @ yakushima beach + the other hugs and then i compare it to the sou/yo hug in p4#and there's like... a noticeable difference to me with how intimate and close together the hugs are...#that said i do know that the animations for reload are updated and the hugs are much more natural (good on them tbh!)#the other thing is (pensive sigh). the way you couldn't reject any of the girls when doing their social links in FES#objectively speaking i'm glad that they did away with that and i like how the rejections were handled in reload. it feels naturally written#but also a part of me enjoyed looking at the “hey atlus what the FUCK” moment and thought of how to interpret it differently#specifically with the idea of minato having like.. little to no autonomy and kind of going along with the relationship#it kind of reminded me of myself tbh with like going along with the rship without considering what you want bc#it's what others want or expect out of you... LOL. i dont think atlus intended for someone to interpret it this way but#eh i think that's the fun part of hcs and looking at characters with certain lenses!#regardless of how you perceive minato i do think there's something to be said about him being the kind of guy who molds himself-#into someone that is needed. not wanted. but needed. important distinction here.#the one caveat my brain runs into when im like “minato is ace!” is when i remember thanatos exists and i go#“you know what these ideas can exist simultaneously” GKLHFHDFHD when in doubt schrodinger's headcanons#anyway that's all i've had this thought in my brain in awhile and haven't sat down to share it properly until now 👍#have an excellent weekend everyone !!! lizzy loves you all lets all nurture our inner yippee!!! 🥺💙

Star Trek TOS : Metamorphosis. It's fine, don't think about it.
#TOS#livetweeting#it sucks when excellent scifi horror is framed as romantic bc women are just objects who want love no matter the source or circumstances#in the eyes of these PEEEOPPLLEEEE!!!!#Nancy Hedford's worst day ever (catches a disease so rare there's a one in a billion chance of having it -#gets trapped on a planet where a being of near unlimited power can heal you! - it doesn't. and instead it uses you as a skinsuit. -#everyone leaves you there with a wink and a smile and also you're supposed to stop a war)#TOS Metamorphosis#that fucking speech Kirk gave was great though - the only good thing about this episode other than Spock being like#'yeah yeah diplomacy. whatever. ask the alien about its lore.' while Kirk hissed not NOW Mr. Spock!!#Spock was truly unbothered this entire episode. Kirk's trying to keep them all alive - Nancy's dying - Mccoy's worried about his patient#and Spock's like 'wow science is so fun'#Commissioner Hedford showed NOTHING but disdain for this creep but suddenly when she's possessed it's fine and she loves him now#and I'm NOT supposed to question it!???

hai :3 do u rec aeducan or brosca for first time players
they are both just so good!!
my personal preference veers towards aeducan because i love the fantasy of royal court scheming and backstabbing, but that’s specifically my tastes. if i had to pick one for a first time player i would probably suggest brosca! it’s a really good introduction to the world, super versatile for making a character, and it’s such a solid opening to the main story. brosca as the warden makes so much sense
#but theyre both excellent. objectively best origins. sorry elves#side note i also rec playing a female character for both#theyre good anyway and it doesnt affect the plot much like the city elf but it just adds something

what’s your favorite muppet?
GONZO‼️‼️ I was cast as Gonzo in a second grade play, and I made his nose out of papier-mâché. He’s been my favorite ever since. I also love that he’s the weirdest one! (I’m guessing I got the role for a reason.)
Also, please look at how he dresses
#asks#the muppets#gonzo#gonzo the great#i definitely got typecasted as gonzo#i remember the nice popular girl who everyone liked was kermit#this petty blonde girl who was into fashion got miss piggy#i tried out for a few and they immediately eliminated me for miss piggy because i didn’t know how to pronounce ‘moi’#i was the proudly weird and creative kid who was also undiagnosed autistic#gonzo was the objectively correct casting#:)#also i’m sorry i took so long to answer this#excellent question!! thank you!!

it's so crazy how few historical fiction novels are like sharon kay penman's. the way that they're built out of the skeleton of the historical record seems so obvious, but there's so few people who are actually willing to commit to it in the way that she did. it seems like so often that's just a starting point which gets reformed to fit a coherent narrative, but she makes no real attempt to do that. there's themes and foils and patterns, but first and foremost it is a reconstruction. you can't really know what someone who lived that long ago was like, only what they did, and you can feel how she takes these isolated, dramatic events and builds a whole life around them. the books are nothing more than an answer to the question 'what might someone have been like, what could the history between these people have been, to possibly explain something like this?' the ability to string together a handful of facts and events from medieval chronicles to create people that feel so real, and psychology and relationships that develop so naturally that these distant, seemingly impenetrable choices suddenly feel so immediate and clear is just beyond belief. you know this probably wasn't actually how things happened, but it doesn't matter because it was something like this. the particulars are less important the crushing awareness that at one point all of this made sense. there was a time when all of this was right now. the world is unrecognizable and exactly the same. that's something which sounds very simple but is incredibly difficult to accomplish.
you come to know these people so well, their loves and hatreds and ambitions and failures, and those things are rarely resolved in the end. you know them from the time that they're children, you watch each one of them die, and none of it means anything in particular except that they were a human being. things which seem like they must be building to some tragic fallout end in anticlimax. things which seem utterly inconsequential in the moment manifest again decades later in cataclysmic disaster. and then you see it all play out again from the beginning with their children, and their children's children. all these uncanny echoes, this endlessly unfolding palimpsest of lives, each laid over the triumphs and mistakes of those who came before. i've never read anything so epic with so much mastery over the micro and macro levels of history. it's the minute, seemingly inconsequential everyday details, which build into a lifetime, which builds into generation of lives, which builds into the rise and fall of kingdoms and empires. it's the merciless endlessly turning wheel of fortune that replays the same songs in different keys again and again for all time. a person is both an individual with free will, and the prisoner of their blood and circumstances. somehow everything has infinite weight, is tied to everything that has come before and will come after, is the culmination of someone's entire existence—their pains and joys and fears and hopes—and yet is simultaneously completely meaningless, just one more victim of fate in an endless procession of lives and choices. the whole impotent tragedy of humanity is laid out in front of you and it's so repulsive and beautiful. it's deep love and unfathomable, senseless horror briefly and miraculously reverberating in a vacuum, an absurd aberration fading into silence.
if it's not obvious these books have made me cry like 10 different times
#sharon kay penman#here be dragons#historical fiction#that's my ted talk#i just can't express how much i love these books#and it's a real tragedy that they don't get the same recognition as some more popular literary historical fiction#which truthfully i think is mostly because they're not traditionally narrative enough to make into a commercially successful adaption#their scope is simultaneously way too big and much too small#so i am taking it upon myself dkalsj#it doesn't matter if you like historical fiction it doesn't matter if you care about medieval history#literally everyone should read them#they're some of the best books i've ever read#i think probably my second favorites of all time only behind villette#the prose is certainly good though not standout but the characters and narrative mastery is absolutely unmatched#like this is true craftsmanship this is the paradigm you know#i know i haven't really been active enough in a while for people to trust my opinion#but i will say to my credit that i have pretty absurdly high standards for what i call great literature#and i think that these books are objective excellent and deserve to be recognized as such#and that's what i have to say 😔

starting umbrella academy s3 and tbh not a fan of how this team is like. disabled people in it and theyre supposed ot be the bad guys. like multiple people with facial scars / other facial differences. why do characters with that stuff always have to be villains :/
#ari opinion hour#im only part way thru episode 1 though so this may be premature#that said i think ben is hot so im not complaining that hes evil and also ''evil bird lady'' as a character rules#also i like christopher. like youre telling me that some lady randomly gave birth to a fucked up cube. and said fucked up cube was then#bought by a billionaire and raised as a superhero and is now famous and goes to nightclubs and gets so many bitches.#thats objectively so fucking funny. i lvoe that concept. like thank you his power is cube. excellent

💙 (blue) for the other ask 🙈🙈🙈
💙: Which character is not as hot as everyone else seems to think?
As a flaming asexual, I'm probably the wrong person to ask about this...or the right person, because to me, nobody is as hot as everyone else seems to think except maybe figuratively? I'm bad at distinguishing whether attractiveness is being spoken of "seriously" or .... theoretically?...or as a joke, or...yeah, I honestly don't know. Characters whose personalities I especially like immediately become adorable to me (if that makes sense) so I get cute aggression every time I see my favorite little guys.
#this however does mean that most villains (in character: not the actors!!) are ugly to me no matter what they look like QAQ#i can TELL they are objectively handsome! I can tell!#their features are perfect!#but in their roles they are also ugly?????#tbh this might just be bc i found the acting in cql excellent#or just exactly to my taste#me looking at he peng in character as wen chao: i've never seen a less hot guy in my life#me looking at he peng in another drama/irl/in a bts clip WHERE HE LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME: baby boy. handsome man#help#asks#stilton squeaks#unpopular opinion asks

MUTANT MAYHEM THOUGHTS IT WAS SUPER AWESOME LET'S FUCKING GOO
BANGER BANGER BANGER FILM. definitely the thing i liked most was the visuals - the style is SO UNIQUE (with the deliberately misshapen designs and grungy colours with harsh neon contrast and the FUCKING !! SKETCH/SCRATCH LINES DUUDE), and the animation was just so full of personality and an absolute joy to watch.
AND SHOUT OUT TO THE EFFECTS AND LIGHTING ANIMATION ESPECIALLY HOLY SHIT ??? every time they had the scratched on light rays or scribbled smoke and dust i started like DROOLING dude.
the cinematography was also just absolutely amazing - incredible use of the medium to do these fantastic running shots with complex angles. favourite sequence was definitely the side shots of the boys fighting and interrogating people (SO smooth and the fighting choreography was incredible and showcased their styles and personalities so well, and the intercut sense of MOTION. dude. banger.)
AND !! THE FUCKING SOUND DESIGN!! especially the score dude MY GOD i loved the use of pitchy and unconventional instruments it fit the movie to a tee.
LOVED THE CHARACTERS! particularly the boys and the other mutants (mondo wingnut and leatherhead especially). all the interactions were super sweet and well-written and i just LOVED the VA performances - played off each other immaculately. i love how cringe and unapologetically TEEN the turtles are. and adored splinter too.
i think i'm glad they focused more on developing their relationship as a family than individual character arcs, because it helped reduce any bias or favouritism for specific turtles (COUGH leo and raph ahem), and also worked best with the super fast pacing, i think. didn't feel too cramped in all the busyness.
that said, i did struggle with the comedy a bit? particularly the reference humour. NOT THAT IT WAS ALL BAD! quite a few got a laugh out of me, but there were so many packed into such a small amount of time that it ended up getting a bit distracting. felt a bit like "let's wave all our properties in your face" and kind of out of place at times (i would've preferred for them to be less frequent, or for the references to be knock-offs)
i don't think the plot was the MOST compelling, either, but really that's fine, because it wasn't trying to be. the focus was on the art and action and dynamics and it is completely fine for it to focus more on that than thematic and emotional beats.
oh also i can't decide whether i love or hate the milking joke. funny at times but the more they retreaded it the more uncomfortable it felt lmao.
overall i think it is the most technically impressive tmnt movie, that i've seen at least, and from a cinematography point of view? ABSOLUTELY MIND-BLOWING. but it isn't necessarily the most emotionally compelling tmnt movie, and you know what? that's okay! because is wasn't trying to be, and it absolutely excels at what it aims itself towards.
#tmnt mutant mayhem#tmntmm#mutant mayhem spoilers#tmntmm spoilers#objectively in terms of production value cinematography sound design and so on? the best tmnt film.#but i do think the rise movie is more emotionally compelling and has more character complexity#AND YOU KNOW WHAT? THAT'S AWESOME! variety is the spice of life and they both excel in different ways#i'd give it like an 8.5/10 (maybe a 9 upon rewatch but we'll see how that goes)#and i think it's a must-watch if you're into animation and art because it is SO stunning and stylistically unique and just fantastic really

i also think that her finally winning soty for anti-hero would have a certain career capping and skill evolutionary significance to it. not only is it one that has ironically eluded her, due to circumstance and submitting perhaps weaker songs, as one of america's widely agreed upon most gifted songwriters, but this particular submission i think really exemplifies and makes a case for it's own win. soty is typically, although not always, referred to as a ballad category as the recording academy is a bunch of old white fogies with thumbs up their asses who think a ballad is the best vehicle for the most ~profound~ songwriting. the kind of category that ATW, had it been appreciated at the time writ large and submitted by her, would have easily walked away with the trophy for. but anti-hero i think is an even more deserving win (i know shocking coming from me). she's proven she can write a catchy and silly and frothy pop song and she's proven she can write an deft and clever and emotionally resonant ballad. but anti hero deploys that same deftness and cleverness and emotional resonance within the confines of a catchy and silly and frothy pop song. it's deft and clever in spite of the fact that it's a frothy pop song. and its a showcase in how after all her years of experience, she's learned to fuse her two talents together to really break the mold for what a "great" song can sound like, which is a far more accomplished skill than anything before. blank space is the original to do this in her body of work, although that still defaulted into the trappings of a silly pop song. the satire was only understandable to those who knew the broader context, but not too blatant to someone who simply wanted a petty and snarky pop song about nothing serious, children and adults alike. anti-hero insists upon it's darkness, mocks it even, and makes the case for a pop song to be just as self reflective and rich and mournful as a ballad. it's not the first pop song to do that, not by a mile, but it's the first pop song in a long time that's managed to do all that, be all that, but also be incredibly catchy and have the whole country singing along to an adult woman going through her depression spiral. it's a marvelous trick and feat and mastery of songwriting and the one i think she deserves most.
#i know i knowww my friends will be like not kelsey pro-midnights posting adkflajdslkjdf#to be fair i... am not pro midnights but i do think this song is just objectively excellent and i love it a lot like a diamond in the rough#and the rough is ROUGH but it makes the diamond all the shinier#the second most likely contender in this category is particularly delicious and if THAT wins instead..... hoooooooooo boy#anyway just had to dump all this here

#just saw a post that was like 'if you have religious or moral objections that stop you from providing certain types of medical care maybe#you shouldn't work in healthcare' (paraphrased) and...#what a way to look at the world tbh#like. they're talking about me i think - i am a conscientious objector when it comes to euthanasia#(which granted has come up exactly twice and both cases in a theoretical capacity only this is not a frequent request to me)#and... i am also a good doctor#last week i told someone that her weight doesn't matter to her health with receipts to prove it and she cried#no one had ever told her that before#and that was something that came from me specifically. that was something i would not trust all of the GPs in my practice - a practice of#excellent and compassionate GPs! - to say#i am verifiably doing good in my job that is coming from specifically who i am as a person#i cannot put that down when it comes to issues i care deeply about#fundamentally the fact that i cannot put it down is what makes me a good doctor#i think that's what i'm trying to get at#the reason that i do well by my patients is that i practice out of my values and my ethics#if i did not stand on that core i would not stand at all#so you can't have it both ways. you can't have engaged and active and compassionate healthcare providers without sometimes those engaged an#active providers having things they do not feel comfortable doing#and it is to everyone's service if they are up front about it and do not try to hide (i am suspicious of people who try to hide this)#i am literally figuring this all out as i type hence the v long tag ramble and also being nowhere near the post that started this train#(honestly in med school we talked so much about ethics as like. abortion! euthanasia! trans rights! and the ethics in practice is the littl#things. do you apologise when you mess up. how do you manage a consult with your patient with paranoid dementia and her child in the same#room at one time - or one by one bc that's fraught too. (that one's on top i had one of those today.) how do you act with grace when#you're a bit stressed and your patient is a bit stressed and the nurse wants to add five more things to your book. the day to day ethics is#SUCH a bigger thing when you come to actual practice.)#this is obviously entirely about me and leans on the fact that i largely do think i am doing a good job i am really feeling my own way#to a Thought. but i think to a certain extent it is generalisable
