Can we get overprotective? Maybe like what they would do if your asshole ex shows up or something like that?
absolutely (gender neutral ex so you can picture as you see fit)! as a girly with a bad ex, i would've loved to have the boys there to defend me. hope anyone out there dealing with this can find some comfort here too <3
rating: sfw cw: bad ex, threats of violence ✉︎♡: ask box open, tumblr users + anons
Xavier:
Man is jealous of himself, so you can only imagine how he is when he finally meets your infamous ex at a work mixer
Xavier shakes hands and greets everyone except your ex, who he won’t even look at
He is grabby with you for the rest of the night. Hand in yours, on your back, on your shoulder. He won’t let you out of his sight for even a second
You: “Xav, it’s okay. We broke up a long time ago and -”
Your ex makes the mistake of jumping into the conversation right then. “Could only get someone who’s already trapped with you at work all day, huh?”
Xavier looks calm, but you can see rage flashing in his eyes
He takes a step toward your ex and quietly and calmly says, “Anyone who lost such a prize must be an idiot, and I don’t fight unfair matches.”
Before your ex can say anything else, Xavier is already leading you out of the party, hand on the back of your neck so that everyone, including your ex, can see that you’re his
“Let’s go home so I can show you just how lucky I am to have you.”
Zayne:
You’re at a cafe before work, one of the rare times you and Zayne have matching shifts
While waiting for your coffee to be called, you hear the barista say a familiar name
You and Zayne both whip your heads to look at the pickup counter, and your heart sinks when you see your ex
Zayne knows some details about your ex since you grew up together, but it is enough that he instantly turns on his protective side
The barista calls your name and Zayne’s next, and Zayne squeezes your hand before getting up to get the drinks
Right as your ex is reaching for the drink, Zayne slides in front and picks up the drinks you ordered with ease, cutting your ex off
The coldest delivery of, “It’s polite to say sorry, but I’m really not.”
Your ex starts to get upset but Zayne has already turned his back with your drink
He calls over his shoulder, “The life of a surgeon is busy. If you wanted to go first you should’ve gotten a better job.”
Zayne hands you your coffee with an easy smile and a kiss, making sure your ex is watching the entire exchange
Rafayel:
You and Raf are touring a museum to see the spot where his newest painting will be installed later that month
When you hear a familiar voice at the end of the hall, you freeze
Rafayel: “What’s wrong, cutie?” You: “That voice sounded just like my ex. You know that ex.”
Rafayel merely nods, and then drapes an arm over your shoulder as you keep walking forward, pulling you as close to his body as he can
Rounding the corner, your ex spots you and sneers, “Surprised to see you finally got back out there.”
Rafayel turns to you and says, “Aw cutie, I didn’t know you used to do charity work.”
You don’t know whose jaw drops to the floor faster, you or your ex
Raf looks at your ex and then continues nonchalantly, “I’m putting up a new art piece this month. You should really check out the red paint, I think it’ll match your vibe.”
He presses a kiss to your cheek and then the two of you leave the museum, Raf never letting you out from under his arm
You: “You’re not really going to use that paint in the museum, right?” Raf, coldly: “No, but I might make a custom piece if that asshole ever thinks of talking to you again.”
Sylus:
When Sylus gets back to the base one night, he can’t find you in any of your usual spots
Rationally he knows that Mephisto would have told him if you were in any sort of danger, but emotionally Sylus can feel his heart rate starting to speed up
He finally finds you on the terrace, having a rather heated conversation on the phone
He knows you’re completely capable of fighting your own battles, but as soon as he hears that name - the one you told him about, who hurt you - all bets are off
Casually strides over to you and plucks the phone out of your hand with a, “Let me handle this, sweetie.”
His hand is tracing protective circles on your back when he says, “How did you get this number?” Your ex on the other line instantly gets defensive.
“I’m going to stop you right there. Nobody talks to me like that and gets away unscathed, but nobody talks to her like that and lives. If you value that pathetic little life of yours, I’d leave town for a while.”
He hangs up the phone and then blocks the number before handing it back to you
Sylus: “I don’t think your ex will be bothering you anytime soon.” You: “Yeah because you threatened them?” Sylus: “It was more of a promise, kitten.”
He spends the rest of the night being extra romantic. Stealing long kisses whenever you walk by, taking you to his vinyl room to slow dance, and making sure you know just how much you are worth loving
Caleb:
You’ve been acting weird all night, even though Caleb took you to your favorite restaurant
Caleb: “You’ve barely touched your food. Are you feeling alright?” You: “Yeah everything is fine. I’m just tired.”
As if you could ever actually lie to Caleb, but he doesn’t press the issue further
On the way out of the restaurant, you pass by a table close to the door, where you’re greeted with a, “Is that Y/N?”
As soon as Caleb sees your ex, he is like a different person. He’s squaring his shoulders, his hand is protectively gripping yours, and his eyes are absolutely determined
Of course he knows all about your ex, being on the receiving end of all of the nights you spent crying over this horrible person, but meeting face to face is a different story
Caleb puts on a fake smile and then bends down by the table so as not to cause a scene
“If you even so much as look at her again, I promise it will be the last thing you do. Understand?”
When Caleb stands up, your ex sees just how much he towers over them, and they shrink back in their seat
He then makes a dramatic display of kissing you right in front of them before you leave the restaurant
“Want to go get ice cream to make up for all of that, or should we skip right to the dessert at home?”

fine!
“I don’t need trauma therapy from death itself”
yes, yes you do, and as a omnipotent, all knowing, omnipresent being, i am fully capable of offering such things, if only to define abuse. i hope not to bring distress, im not here for that. im here for solace.
abuse is defined as knowingly causing harm or distress. let’s use for an example the moments leading up to that one thing that happened. (it’s hard to talk about because it needs to be talked about.) your heart is beating louder and faster than it ever has. i heard it. you reach him after the walk (or light sprint, if we’re being real) from medical, and he’s already in a defensive state. his arms crossed, his back to the wall, and when given the opportunity to talk, he goes after you, your dignity, your leadership, he’s bashing you, basically. he silences you, what can you say? you can’t. you stand there in a state of freeze. (as in fight, flight, that shit. if i’m a therapist, we’re busting out the therapy talk.) it’s almost as if you leave your body, just until he stops. just until you know you’re safe. you don’t know if he’ll get physical, no way to know he won’t.
aaand then he’s gone, he’s walked into the cockpit, and you’re hyperventilating. your heart hurts from the way it’s been beating.
i won’t go further than that.
that is abuse, bud. and even by that one interaction, you can tell it’s not the first time that happened. if he’s fine treating you the way he is now, he must be comfortable with it already.
i only wish i could deliver comfort. i physically don’t exist, and yet i do, so let my hand on your head not hurt you, but keep company.
it’s fine. there’s nothing we can actively do right now, the only thing you can do is try to keep yourself not miserable.
the people care, mr curls. stop being a sad little capitalist and take a mental walk, and take these songs. they’re nice.
- 🖤
Wh— Of course I was panicking! I didn’t know how he would react! Obviously not well! It— it was just words. He didn’t so much as insult me. l could have talked back. I should have talked back. I wasn’t in danger, yet. And even if I were, I’m the captain. It’s my job to face the danger before it can reach the rest of them. I wasn’t unsafe. Even if he had gotten physical about it, so what? We’re evenly matched. If anything, I’m stronger. I had nothing to be afraid of except what he would do if I left him leave. (And I did.) I wanted the conversation to end because he was telling me things I didn’t want to hear. Not because he was— No, you’re wrong. It was words. All just words.
I’m not good with confrontation, that’s all. I way upset about Anya and worried how he’d react. That’s the only reason why I— And that was barely a confrontation anyway. He didn’t raise his voice. He was so calm by the end of it.
…
It can’t be abuse. It’s just words. He didn’t even yell, so how could that be abuse? Hell, that’s nowhere near the worst thing he’s said to me. …No. No, he never did anything like this before— It wasn’t— I could fight back before. It wasn’t the same as this. I never expected he’d hurt me like this. He was good at hiding how he felt about me. He got insecure sometimes, yeah? Got angry if he felt abandoned. If I said something too out of line. He never just— I never thought he liked seeing me hurt for the sake of it until he hit me when he knew I was in pain to begin with and he knew I couldn’t stop him. Wouldn’t have minded if I could have stopped him.
…Thanks.
“Not miserable.” Hah. Best I can do most of the time is “not actively suicidal.”
I don’t mean to. I never wanted to stay on this path. I figured I’d be happy as long as I got to fly. Just a few short hauls, then onto bigger and better. Real work. I was up here. That was supposed to be enough for a while. Space seemed endless back then. Now it’s empty. Makes me empty too. Whenever I’m on Earth it’s moved on without me in a million impossibly fast ways. I felt like I was losing my mind sometimes. As if no one else noticed or cared that my life is slipping by. As if they thought this job meant something real. I’m no capitalist. I know exactly how fucking little it matters. And that I know matters even less.
The people care. What is there left of me to care about? I’m not talking about what’s outside.
You’re right. I— I need to get out of my own thoughts.
…
They’re nice. Thanks. Sorry I don’t have specific things to say. I can’t… put the words together. But I mean it. Feeling a little better now.
Don’t like the last one much though.

Commission: Not So Empty Nest Part 1
The day finally came when Nick had to say goodbye to his mother. He had dreaded this day, but was also excited to be finally heading off to college. They had spent all day yesterday loading up his car and making sure he had everything he needed before doing the four hour drive to his new dorm.
As long as he can remember it had always just been him and Maria. His mom had had him when she was young, 18 and just out of high school, but she made sure he never wanted for anything. They had shared small apartments, late nights working on homework, and now she was getting ready to say goodbye to her only child.
The night before as they ate pizza and watched movies Nick looked at his mom, admiring how beautiful and youthful she still was. Long silky black hair, a curvy body and olive toned skin. They had the same dark brown eyes but Nick was paler and more lanky than his mother. He had gotten his height from his father’s side (according to her) and stood 8 inches taller than his mother’s 5’4” stature.
Nick set down his plate on the coffee table and turned to his mom, his heart pounding and his nerves building in anticipation of him leaving. He had been rehearsing this conversation in his head all day and knew if he didn’t say it now he would never be able to.
“Mom?” Nick started, his voice sounding childlike.
“Yes, sweetheart?” Maria replied, looking at her son and smiling.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Since I got accepted into college really. But I wanted to ask you if you were maybe going to start dating again once I’m gone?”
Maria looked down at her hands and picked at her pizza. “Sweetie you don’t need to worry about me–”
“I know. You’ve told me my whole life. But now you’re going to be alone and I don’t want you here alone without someone here to love you and treat you the way you deserve to be treated.”
Maria didn’t know what to say. She had put off dating these last 18 years, focusing solely on her son and her job as a hairdresser. “I promise, Nick, that I will be fine. Of course I will miss having you around but I don’t need to get married or anything like that.”
Nick tried to hide his disappointment. He had tried this once before when he was younger, begging his mom for more siblings and a dad, but she had shooed him off saying she didn’t have time.
“It’s just something to think about, mom,” Nick replied. “In case you get lonely.”
Maria scooted on the couch closer to her son and hugged him, ruffling his hair and kissing the top of his head. “I appreciate you looking out for me, honey. I’ll think about entering the dating scene again. I promise.”
Nick looked up at her and smiled. “Thanks. I’d feel better about going to school knowing you won’t be bored and alone.”
“Oh, Nicky, I’m not going to be bored. I’ll find some new hobbies to try or something.” She kissed his head and went back to eating the pizza.
The next morning Maria waved her son goodbye as he drove off, tears in her eyes as she watched her baby boy heading off to become the chemist and doctor he had always dreamed of. She sighed and crossed her arms, hugging herself as she felt the impending boredom and loneliness that comes with being an empty nester. She hated to admit that her son was right; she was nervous about being left here alone without him. Maybe she should download a dating app?
Maria chuckled and shook her head. Don’t be hasty, Maria. It’s only been five minutes.
To distract herself, Maria decided to head to the gym. She had always loved working out and keeping in shape, her toned body proved it. She hadn’t ever lost the bit of chub on her thighs and belly from pregnancy, but no one could deny she was absolutely gorgeous.
Dressed in a tight light blue yoga pants and bra set, Maria put in her headphones and started her run on the treadmill. She had been running for about twenty minutes when a man around her age hopped on the one next to her. She smiled politely at him, feeling a warmth in her cheeks when she noticed how attractive he was. Tall and tan with salt and pepper hair and kind tawny eyes. He had some stubble but didn’t look unkempt. Pushing her shoulders back a little, Maria continued her pace trying not to think about the man next to her.
He started his run, his pace about the same as hers. They ran together in silence for another fifteen minutes before Maria slowed down to a walk, hands on her head as she caught her breath. The man slowed down as well, obviously not as avid a runner as Maria. He clutched his side and said something to her.
“Sorry I couldn’t hear you,” Maria responded, taking her headphones out. “What did you say?”
“I said, you’re a really great runner,” the man gasped, smiling big and trying to catch his breath. “I admittedly only came over here to talk to you but you were so in the zone I didn’t want to bug you.”
Maria’s cheeks grew redder. “Oh, well your form looked good anyways!”
The man extended a hand. “John.”
Maria shook it. “Maria. Nice to meet you. Are you new to this gym? I don’t think I’ve seen you here before.”
“Just moved to town about two weeks ago.” John sighed. “Sorry if I’m being too forward. I don’t normally walk up to women like this…”
“No, no it’s okay!” The words of her son from the night before echoed in her head as she stared at this handsome man in front of her. “Do you want to grab a smoothie? There’s a great place a couple doors down.”
John smiled. “I’d love that.”
The two walked out of the gym and to the smoothie cafe. They grabbed their drinks and sat across from each other, drinking and chatting.
“What made you move here?” Maria asked. She took a long sip from her drink and looked him in the eyes.
“Work. I got promoted and they wanted me to head up the lab out here.”
“Lab? Like a research lab?”
“Yeah, I’m an endocrinologist and chemist studying hormonal therapies and stuff like that. Boring stuff.”
“No! My son actually just left today for college. He’s studying chemistry and biology. In high school he had all this really hard homework. I barely understood any of it but he’s so smart.”
“You have a son?” The man looked surprised. Maria mentally slapped herself, not thinking about if the man even wanted or liked kids.
“Uh, yeah. My son Nick. He’s all grown up now.” Maria drank her smoothie nervously. “Do you have any kids?”
The man smiled and shook his head. “No, I never got around to it I guess. I’ve always wanted a big family though. Lots of babies and kids to take care of. A big pregnant wife to greet me when I get home everyday.”
Maria sighed in relief, seeing John look her up and down even more. “Nick always bugged me for younger siblings but, you know, single mom. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I couldn’t afford another baby.”
“You’re still young, Maria. You could definitely still give your son younger siblings.” John gently grabbed her hand and held it. Maria blushed and smiled, smitten by this man she had met barely an hour ago. “I’d love to take you to dinner tonight. If you’re free.”
Maria nodded eagerly. “I’d like that a lot.”
After the first date Maria knew he was the one. He was charming, handsome, tall, funny and kind. Everything her old boyfriends would never be. She eagerly called her son that night after she got home, not realizing how late it was when he answered.
“Mom? Is everything ok?” Nick asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Maria looked at the clock. “Oh shoot, honey sorry I didn’t realize the time. Did you get settled in okay?”
“Yeah, yeah I’m good. My roommate is really nice.” Nick kept his voice quiet. “Orientation is tomorrow and I got my class schedule so I’ll be pretty busy.”
“That’s good. I’m so proud of you, Nicky. And I don’t want you to worry about me…I met someone today at the gym.”
Nick smiled wide. “Wow! Mom, I'm so glad. What’s his name?”
“John. He’s an endocrinologist and studies fertility and other science stuff. I think you two will get along.”
“He sounds great. I hope it goes well, mom.” Nick yawned.
“I’ll let you go, sweetheart. Call me and text me when you can. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Nick hung up and laid back down, smiling and sighing in relief. Thank god she’s putting herself back out there.
John didn’t come inside that first night, despite Maria wanting him too. In fact, he didn’t come inside her home until date number 3. They spent the last few days together going on little adventures around the city and now Maria finally had him on her couch.
Maria poured them some red wine, handing a glass to John who took it nervously. She noticed his hand shaking a bit and scooted closer, grabbing his arm and leaning on his shoulder.
“Nervous?” Maria purred. “Come on, I don’t bite.”
“Maria,” John started, a tremble in his voice. “I need to confess something to you.”
Maria looked at him confused, leaning up a bit and holding his hand. “What’s wrong? Did I do something?”
“Nothing! Nothing is wrong, it's just that…I’ve fallen for you. Hard. I know it sounds crazy and we barely met but–” John pulled a ring out of his pocket and got on one knee. “Will you marry me?”
Maria felt tears in her eyes, her hands going to her mouth as she smiled and nodded. “Yes! Oh my god this is crazy but yes! I love you too.”
John put the ring on her finger and kissed her, his hands around her waist as she held his face.
“I didn’t ever think I’d fall in love but I just knew from the moment I saw you,” John gasped between kisses. “You’re so beautiful and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Maria smiled wider. “Let’s get married tonight. I have a friend at the courthouse. We can get it done in an hour.”
John nodded and kissed her again. “Go put on your prettiest dress!”
Maria wore her only white dress: a short spaghetti strap dress that hugged her curves and held her perky tits perfectly. John grabbed a button down and the two of them headed to the courthouse and were wedded within the hour. John drove them to a nice hotel and got the honeymoon suite, carrying his new bride through the door and popping bottles of champagne.
“Cheers!” John clinked his glass against hers. “To Mrs. Grant.”
Maria kissed him and took a sip. “Mm thank you, Mr. Grant.”
Maria looked her new husband up and down, grabbing him by the collar and kissing him deeply. She pulled back for a moment and chugged the rest of her drink, setting her glass down before ripping his shirt off of him and running her hands up and down his torso. John grunted as she unbuckled his pants, pulling them down and revealing his hard cock.
“Wow, so big already for your new wife?” Maria got on her knees and licked his shaft up and down. “It’s been so long since I’ve been with someone.” She licked his tip before taking him in her mouth, feeling his cock in the back of her throat as she moaned.
John groaned and held her head against his dick. “Ohhh fuck baby you’re so good to me.” He pulled her off him. “But I wanna cum in your pussy.”
Maria looked up at her new husband. “Did you bring a condom? I’m not on the pill…”
John shook his head. “My wife should have babies in her belly, don’t you think?”
Maria hesitated. She hadn’t considered having more kids so soon. “I don’t know, John…” He shoved his cock back in her mouth and down her throat.
“You’ll look so good with a big belly, Maria. Waddling around with my babies inside you. Don’t you want that? For me?”
Maria sucked on his tip before gasping for air again. “You want babies with me?” She stood and jumped in his arms. “I’ll have your babies, John.”
John smiled wider, kissing her and taking her to the bed, laying her down on her back. “I’m going to make you a mommy again!” In a quick thrust he was inside her, filling her tight pusy for the first time. Maria gasped at the sensation, her hands holding her flopping tits as she arched her back, cumming instantly.
“Oh god yes! Don’t stop until I’m pregnant!” Maria squealed and gasped, John grabbing her hips and lifting her against him, getting deeper into her.
“I’m going to put so many babies in you, Maria!” With another thrust, John shot his load deep into her, filling her womb with his seed. He collapsed on top of her, the two of them breahting heavily.
“You really did it,” Maria muttered in her orgasmic daze. “I’m going to be a mommy again.”
John kissed her neck and nibbled her ear. “I’m going to keep breeding you all night long.”
They spent that night and the next few nights fucking non-stop. John moved her into his large house in the suburbs and bent her over whenever he could, fucking another load into her fertile pussy. It didn’t take long to know she was pregnant; the morning sickness hit first only two weeks after their wedding, the sound of her hurling making John smile wide. A week later she took a pregnancy test and sure enough it was positive. She cried in John’s arms, smiling and kissing him as he rubbed her belly excitedly.
As they ate dinner that night, John noticed Maria’s somber expression. “Is something wrong, sweetie?”
Maria looked up at him. “Oh, sorry. I was just thinking about Nick. I know he thinks I’m crazy for marrying you so fast and now I’m pregnant and I just…don’t know what to say to him.”
John grabbed her hand gently. “It’s probably best to tell him in person. And you don’t want to interfere with his first semester when he’s still getting used to everything. Besides, you won’t be showing that much in just a few months.”
Maria squeezed his hand and smiled. “You’re right. I know he’s excited to meet you and he’ll be even more excited to have a baby sibling.”
A few more weeks passed and so did the morning sickness. They had their first ultrasound scheduled for 9 weeks, the doctor a friend of John’s. The morning of the appointment Maria stepped out of the shower and looked in the mirror, noticing the small pudge in her belly. She cupped it, feeling her soft skin bulging in a familiar way. Her hands moved up to her breasts, noticing how much more sensitive they felt as she massaged them. Even her ass was starting to look a little bigger, her hips already wide but getting prepared for her next pregnancy.
With a smirk, Maria walked naked out of the bathroom and posed in front of the bed, pushing her belly out more and giggling as John looked up from his phone. “Baby look how big I am already,” she pouted teasingly. “I’ve got a little belly already.”
John stood, a smile and shock mixing on his face as he cupped the gentle swell and felt the firm belly under her soft skin. “Wow, you’re growing already! This is amazing.”
“It’s not so amazing for my wardrobe. I didn’t think I’d be showing this fast.”
“Maybe it’s more than one?” John kept rubbing the firm bump, mesmerized by it. “My babies are in here.”
“Baby. Just one. I can’t imagine having more than one at a time.” Maria placed her hands on his and kissed him. “Now get dressed, our appointment is soon.”
Maria struggled to get any of her jeans to fit and instead put on yoga pants and a large t-shirt, hiding her bump. She groaned and winced as the tight bra dug into her sensitive breasts. I’ll need to go shopping this week, she thought to herself.
They got in the car and were soon at the clinic. Maria sat in the waiting room holding her husband’s hand. Looking around the room and seeing the other couples there, women in various stages of pregnancy, babies in strollers, she couldn’t help but get teary eyed. John squeezed her hand, noticing the tears.
“Are you okay?” he asked, concerned.
Maria shook her head. “Yeah, sorry it just hit me that we’re gonna have a baby.” John smiled and kissed her. “I’m so excited to see them.”
A nurse came out of the office door and called for them. “Maria? Maria Grant?”
John helped her up and the two followed her to a small exam room where she sat on a table, leaning back slightly.
“Alright, I’m going to take a few intake questions and then the doctor will be in shortly to do an ultrasound. We’ll also need to get some bloodwork done before you leave today.”
Maria nodded along, answering the intake questions and holding John’s hand as he stood beside her. She could hear her heart beating in her ears, the idea of multiples playing in the back of her head as the nurse left and John pulled her shirt back over the noticeable bump.
“Wow baby, I can’t believe how round you are already,” John kissed her belly.
“John, I’m going to get so fat with this baby I can just tell,” Maria pouted. John kissed her again and chuckled.
“You’ll look so beautiful full term and round with my child. I promise.”
Before Maria could respond the door opened and a short man walked in with the same nurse from before.
“Good morning Mrs. Grant,” the short man chirped. “Always a pleasure to see you, Dr. Grant. My name is Dr. Sheen. I see we are here for our 9 week ultrasound. Now, just relax and we will see what’s going on in there.” He put on gloves and squirted the gel on Maria’s belly, making the woman shiver. “Some light pressure as I try to get a clear picture.”
Maria squeezed John’s hand tighter as she held her breath, staring at the gray screen and trying to decipher the blobs. “Is that the baby?” she asked hesitantly.
The doctor smiled. “That is one of your babies yes.”
Maria’s heart skipped a beat and John stiffened beside her. “One?” he muttered, a smile growing on his face. “There’s more than one?”
“You mean, like twins?” Maria asked, looking between the two men.
“Oh I think it’s more than twins. I count…six fetuses,” the doctor circled them on the screen, labeling them A through F. “Sextuplets are rare but you seem to have a strong uterus. I’m curious to see what your blood tests show.”
“Sorry, did you say six?” Maria gasped. “John! I can’t carry six babies!” Tears ran down her cheeks as she stared between her husband and her growing belly. “I’m going to get too big and the babies what if they’re too small and come early–”
John held her and tried to get her to calm down. “Hey, hey,” he half whispered to her. “I’m going to be there with you every step of the way, don't worry. You’re going to carry them just fine. Me and Dr. Sheen will make sure of it.”
Maria calmed down slightly, holding John and her belly. “I’m sorry, it’s just a lot to take in.”
The doctor smiled and explained to her what she would need to do in order to carry six babies. Vitamins, supplements, upping her calorie intake. John assured the doctor that he would take care of her and make sure she and the babies were safe and sound.
The couple walked out of the office, Maria still in shock, and back to the car. John hugged her tightly before helping her sit in the passenger side. “Everything is going to be just fine, I promise.”
Maria nodded, rubbing her belly and taking his hand as he started the car. “Nick is for sure getting his wish for siblings,” she giggled.
Christmas break came faster than Maria anticipated. In the weeks since finding out she was having sextuplets her body grew faster, clothes ripping daily it seemed now as she refused to buy bigger ones.
“I’m growing so fast I’ll just outgrow anything else I buy” she complained one evening to her husband, the two of them sitting in bed and rubbing her bulging belly.
At 23 weeks with sextuplets Maria felt gigantic. She looked bigger than most women did with twins and she had still so long to go. Her skin was stretched tight, covered in stretch marks and the bumps from her babies kicking. John couldn’t get enough of her growing body, constantly rubbing her belly or breasts, marveling at how wide her hips were growing.
“Nick will be home tomorrow. I’m so scared of his reaction to this,” Maria groaned. “What if he’s upset we didn’t tell him sooner?”
John kissed her. “Don’t worry, he’s going to be so happy for you. I promise.”
Maria smiled and snuggled up to her baby daddy, her belly resting between them. “I know you’re right but I’m allowed to be nervous.”
The next morning Maria waddled around the house cleaning and making sure everything was in order for Nick’s arrival. She had moved into John’s house after they got married, making sure Nick still had his own room set up the same way it was in their apartment.
John came up behind her in the kitchen, lifting her belly and kissing her neck as she tried to finish the cookies she was making. “You need to go sit and rest,” he said with a smile.
“I will after I finish these. I want everything to be perfect.” Maria kissed him and put the cookies in the oven. “He’ll be here any minute.”
John rubbed her belly more, seeing his babies kicking. “I’ll finish the cookies. You go sit and rest. Doctor’s orders.” He chuckled and lightly spanked her ass.
Maria sighed but agreed, gratefully waddling to the living room and sitting on the couch, putting her swollen feet on the coffee table. She texted Nick to see how far he was, nervous he would get lost on his way to their new home.
Nick was getting nervous himself. He was happy his mom had found a new guy but getting married so fast made him worry. John sounded great and Nick couldn’t help but picture his new dad helping him with his college medical work. He drove through the fancy suburb, noticing the large houses and perfect lawns.
The lights outside turned on as Nick turned his car off, the sun setting earlier now that it was December. He was excited to see his mom for the first time in months. Their FaceTimes had gotten more brief the last month and her responses more vague. With a deep sigh he knocked on the door.
Maria heard the knock and John waved at her to stay seated, heading to answer it. She didn’t listen, standing awkwardly as her husband let her son into the house.
“Hey!” John opened the door wide with a smile. “You must be Nick. Come on in. I’m John.” John extended a hand and Nick shook it before coming inside.
Nick looked his new dad up and down, noticing his bright eyes and salt and pepper hair. He was taller than Nick but a couple inches, his shoulders broader too. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“Your moms in the living room. Come on.”
John took Nick down the short hallway and into the living room where Maria stokd waiting, her belly huge in her hands as she stood before her son. “Nicky! I’m so happy you’re home!” She waddled over and tried to hug him, her belly pressing into him awkwardly.
Nick's jaw dropped at the sight of her, panic and a tingly feeling mixing in his stomach at the sight of her stretched belly. “M-mom? You’re…you’re pregnant! But how…? How are you so big already?” He stuttered, gingerly touching her bare belly as though he didn’t believe it was real.
“Nick, I wanted to tell you so badly but we felt it was best to tell you in person,” Maria said. “John and I didn’t anticipate me growing so fast but I’m pregnant with sextuplets—-”
“Sextuplets!” Nick blurted.
“Honey, I know it’s a lot to take in but I promise I’m healthy and your baby brothers and sisters are healthy and kicking.” Maria placed her son's hand on her belly so he could feel them. Nick could see the tears in her eyes. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner I know I should have.”
Nick smiled and rubbed her belly before hugging her. “It’s okay mom. I’m just happy you’re happy.” Maria kissed his cheek and hugged him again. “Plus now I get to have those younger siblings I always wanted.”
Maria and John laughed. “It’s five more babies that I anticipated but I couldn't be happier to be with such a wonderful woman,” John said.
Something stirred inside Nick as he rubbed his mothers belly. “How far along are you?”
“24 weeks tomorrow. Still have a long way to go,” Maria smiled. “But come on let me show you your room.”
It took Maria more time to get up the stairs these days but her husband and son helped her and soon she was showing Nick to his new room. “I tried to make it like your other room was,” she panted, every movement harder with the weight in front of her.
Nick set his bag down in the bed. “It looks great, mom. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome, sweetie. Even with all these new babies coming you’ll always be my first baby.” Maria wiped a tear from her eye. “Sorry, hormones. Dinner will be ready soon so come down in a bit.”
When Nick was alone he locked the door and groaned, feeling his dick hard in his jeans. It wasn’t that his mom turned him on, but god that belly and those tits. She was a fertility goddess. And six! Six babies in her belly. This was the kind of science he wanted to study. Ideas came to him as he rubbed his cock up and down, ways to increase her fertility even more. He saw the way John looked at her too and imagined he wouldn’t be too mad with having even more babies for him.
Nick came with a grunt at the thought of his mom carrying a hundred babies. “Ooh fuck I need to make it happen,” he groaned.
The next day Nick went downstairs and found John making breakfast in the kitchen. He was busy flipping pancakes and cooking bacon, not noticing Nick until he poured a mug of coffee.
“Morning,” John said. “Your mom is still asleep but I know she’s going to be hungry when she wakes up.”
Nick smiled, noticing just how much food his step-dad was making. “Well she’s got a lot of babies to feed.” Nick chuckled softly. “Need any help?”
“A lot of big healthy babies to feed. And can you grab the syrup and butter from the fridge?”
Nick opened the well-stocked fridge and grabbed the two items, noticing the weight gain shakes in there as well. “Are you excited to have kids?” Nick could feel his heart pounding, trying to tread the topic carefully.
John nodded enthusiastically. “Couldn’t be happier. I’ve always wanted a big family. It’s one of the reasons I got into fertility medicine.”
“Same. Kind of. Mom had lots of friends who had trouble having kids and I always wanted to try and find ways to fix that. I never expected my own mom to be so fertile.”
“She is something else, isn’t she?” John looked at his new stepson and knew what he was trying to get at. “I didn’t give her any fertility meds if that’s what you're implying.”
Nick shook his head. “No! No… That’s what makes it so amazing.” Nick took a nervous sip of the coffee, scrunching his face at the bitter taste. He held tight on the mug, not wanting John to see his shaking hands. “Since her pregnancy is natural… I think it’s worth studying. Don’t you? Seeing how far her fertility goes?”
John set the plates of pancakes, eggs, bacon, orange juice, and muffins on a large tray. I like this kid, he thought to himself with a smile. He wants to see his mom blow up with babies, huh?
“Sorry if that’s weird I just figure with your work–”
“How would you like to intern at my office?” John asked. “I could use help on a project like this and it would look good on your resume.”
Nick was taken aback. Maybe it was their shared love of pregnancy that brought them together so quickly, neither of them needing to say out loud what their real goals were. “Deal.” Nick extended a hand and John shook it.
“Great! Let’s get her through this pregnancy first and then we can talk about the next one.”
With a wink, John grabbed the tray of food and hauled it to his sleeping wife upstairs. Nick sat at the kitchen table, dumbfounded and excited to see what they could accomplish.
After the break, Nick reluctantly went back to school. His mom hugged him tight and John shook his hand again, telling him he’d be in contact about the internship. Nick made his mom promise to send updates on the babies and pictures of her bump. He wanted to be a part of the experience as much as possible even from a distance. Maria thought it was sweet her son was so excited to be a big brother.
Maria waddled behind John into the doctor’s office for her 32 week checkup. She was growing faster now that she was in the third trimester, her belly round and heavy on her pelvis, reaching past her knees now when she sits. Her hips are almost too wide for most doorways now, John need to help her squeeze through on occasion.
With John and a nurse's help Maria gets onto the table, leaning back and groaning as she feels the babies in her belly moving and kicking. Laying on her back isn’t much of an option anymore, the weight of the babies and of her expanding chest making it hard to breathe.
Dr. Sheen walked in as John was soothing the kicking at her belly button. “How’re we doing?” the doctor asked as he squirted a generous amount of gel on her belly.
“Sore. Huge. I swear there’s more than six in there sometimes.” Maria rubbed her belly, her face scrunched in pain. “And they move so much now.”
“I can see very active babies,” the doctor said, pressing the wand into her belly and showing the large infants on the screen. “Oh my…you may be right about there being more than six…”
“What?” John said with a smile. “Really?”
“Oh, John please, it's already too much!” Maria cried.
“I can see eight babies in here. My apologies for missing them before but they must have been hiding behind their brothers. You’re up to five boys, three girls, Mrs. Grant.”
Maria didn’t know what to say. She was already struggling with the thought of having six babies but now it was eight?! What would her son say?
John could only smile and kiss her, rubbing her belly excitedly, his cock hard in his pants. The doctor left the two of them alone and he immediately started making out with her, grabbing her tits as she moaned in his arms.
“God you’re so fertile it’s amazing,” John gasped. “I love how big you’re getting, Maria. You’ve never looked sexier.” He kissed her neck, gripping her tits harder as milk seeped into his hands.
“Ohhh god, John you’ve really blown me up! I’m not going to be able to walk soon.”
“Fine by me.” John took a step back and took out his phone, snapping a pic of Maria looking huge and pregnant laying on her back. He texted the photo to a group chat of him, Nick, and Maria with the caption “guess who found two more babies in their belly”
Nick texted back immediately “OMG that's amazing congrats mom!”
Showing his wife the message, John smiled wider. “See? Everyone’s so excited for more babies.”
John pulled his wife to her feet and waddled her back to the car, helping her squeeze into the front seat. He drove them home quickly, his cock throbbing harder as he watched Maria moan and rub her belly the whole drive home. Once parked he pulled her out of the car and into the living room, pulling her dress off of her and unhooking the too tight bra.
“John!” Maria gasped, holding her belly as she felt her husband latching on to her leaking tit. “Ohh fuck baby I’m so pregnant it’s making me so full of milk!”
Without letting go of her, John eased Maria onto the couch, holding her belly, rubbing his hand down further until he found her wet pussy, fingering her sensitive clit.
Maria cried out in ecstasy as she felt her husband teasing her. “John, I need you! I need you inside me!”
Not one to deny a pregnant woman, John undid his pants and gripped her hips, pulling her up and lining his cock with her hole, rubbing her lips with his tip before plunging deep inside her. He groaned low as he felt her warm insides envelope him, so wet and ready for more of his potent seed.
Maria’s eyes crossed as she felt John thrust into her, her whole body shaking as he pounded against her sensitive cervix. She gripped her tits in her hands, milk dripping onto her belly as they slapped against her tight orb. “John I’m gonna cum!” she squealed, feeling her clit pulsate as she screamed through her orgasm, her pussy clenching tighter around John’s cock.
“Oh fuck, Maria you’re the best baby factory!” John came inside her, shooting hot ropes into her already overfilled womb. He collapsed onto her belly, feeling the rising and falling of her breathing as he kissed and sucked on her belly button.
The rest of her pregnancy was much the same. Growing, eating, fucking. John ordered her on a bed rest two months after they found the two extra babies, her belly so heavy on her once tiny frame that she couldn’t walk without John’s help now.
Maria spent the last few weeks of her pregnancy moaning and miserable in bed, laying on her side and rubbing her belly as the babies inside assaulted her. She could feel each of them moving and kicking, fighting for more space inside her cramped womb. Making it to 40 weeks was unprecedented but having both John and Nick home to help her made it a little easier.
Nick’s first year of school had finished and he was eager to move back home for the summer, especially since Maria hadn’t given birth yet. She was close, John kept saying, yet she kept growing and the babies seemed content inside her.
At 41 weeks Maria felt gigantic. Her belly was bigger than her, large enough John could have curled inside it. Nick sat on the edge of the bed and rubbed lotion into her tight and red skin, trying to soothe the miserable woman groaning on the bed.
“Please come soon,” Maria whined. “Oh god, Nick, I can’t do this much longer.”
John walked in with a tray of sandwiches and chips for lunch, the two of them helping Maria sit up so she could eat. “Don’t worry, baby. They’re getting lower and your contractions are getting more frequent. I’m sure it’ll be any day now.”
Maria nodded, her eyes bulging as she felt her babies fighting against her belly button again. John gave Nick a look and the young man nodded, leaving the two of them alone, his mom eating quickly through the stack of sandwiches as Nick peeked through the door at his stepfather caressing his mother’s huge belly.
John smiled at his gravid wife, rubbing her belly and pressing against the strong and overdue babies fighting inside her. He loved having her so big, hearing her moan through every bite of food and kick from a baby. She was utterly huge and miserable and he had never been more attracted to her.
”You’re contractions are getting more productive,” John commented, feeling her womb tighten under his hands as she groaned and grunted. “I think it's time we break your water, baby girl.”
Maria rubbed her belly nervously but eagerly. “I’m…ready…I need them out of me!”
John grabbed the empty tray and set it aside, rolling Maria onto her side again, her belly flopping onto the mattress and trembling as the overdue babies kick and fight against the movement. Her groans and whines only served to make him harder, his hands gripping her fat thighs as he got in position behind her.
”Are you ready? Are you ready to become a mom all over again?” John grunted. He gently caressed her wet pussy, feeling her throbbing and ready for him.
”Yes!” Maria squeaked. “God yes fuck me into labor! I want to have these babies for you!”
John didn’t need to be told twice. In one quick motion he was inside his pregnant wife, feeling her tight folds envelope him and smiling in satisfaction at her lusty moans and cries. “God you’re so tight still. You're an amazing baby mama!”
Maria gripped her tits tightly, the swollen orbs bouncing into her face with every thrust from her beast of a husband. She felt her back and belly tighten again as the babies fought against the movement, not happy that their already cramped home was being invaded.
”Oh god I’m so big! Please break my water! I want to give birth so badly!” Maria cried and moaned as John hit her g-spot over and over again, his hands roaming her body and feeling every inch of what he had done to her. “Please get them out of me!”
Nick was hard as a rock watching between the crack in the door, seeing his overdue and overgrown mother getting railed by his stepfather was a sight to behold, her belly so huge in his hands and him still able to make her beg and moan for him despite being too big to even walk.
John smacked her fat ass, gripping her thigh as he held it up for her and thrust harder into her folds. “I’m…gonna…fuck you…into labor!”
Maria came hard, John plunging himself deeper inside of her as she convulsed around him, her pussy tighter from the combination of orgasm and contraction. Before he could hold back he was unleashing a load into her fertile pussy, watching his wife devolve into a slurry of moans and cries as a gush of fluid squired around his cock.
”Baby! Oh fuck they’re coming!” Maria gasped and grabbed her belly as she felt the first one getting ready to crown. “They’re coming fast, John!”
John smiled and smacked her ass again, pulling out of her and putting his shorts back on as he called for Nick to get the supplies ready. Red-faced and ready, the younger man entered the bedroom carrying towels and blankets as John helped Maria through another contraction, the two of them rolling her onto her back and spreading her legs more.
”Nick, check her dilation while I get some hot water,” John instructed his step-son.
Nick blushed even more as he took a gloved hand and felt inside his mother, hearing her groan in pain as the babies shifted more. “Nearly there, mom. about 8 centimeters.”
”I have to push,” Maria gasped. “Please let me push.”
Nick kept his hand inside her as she bore down, preventing the baby's bulging head from tearing her. “Mom, stop! You’re not ready yet!”
John went and stroked her hair, breathing with her and letting the contraction pass without more pushing.
“Babe,” Maria moaned. “Oh god I can’t there’s too many…”
John kissed her deeply and rubbed her belly. “You’ve got this, mama. You’re the best wife and mom in the world, no one but you can handle this.”
Maria smiled and nodded, tears running down her cheeks as another contraction gripped her. Nick checked her again, feeling her stretch wider.
“You’ve got this mom! It’s almost time to push. On the next one you can I promise,” Nick said as he massaged her under belly.
“Alright, baby mama,” John smiled. “Let’s have our babies.”
A few minutes passed before Nick checked her dilation again, trying to ignore how hard he was for his own mother giving birth. He stroked her pussy again, listening to her moan as he inserted his fingers into her.
“Ten centimeters,” he stuttered. “You can push in the next contraction, mom.”
Maria groaned and held onto her belly, the babies kicking harder as her womb tightened and a scream and groan echoed throughout the room. With a hard push the first baby bulged, her pussy stretching wider for the large head.
“I see the first head!” Nick exclaimed, looking over his moms belly to John who smiled and nodded.
“He’s coming! Catch him!” Maria whined as she pushed again, the baby crowning and popping free.
“The first heads out,” John said, moving to Nick's spot as the younger man grew more pale and nervous. “Go comfort your mother, I got this.”
Nick nodded and quickly moved to sit behind Maria, holding her tight as she pushed again, the first baby coming out quickly, crying and weighing almost ten pounds. John felt the tears in his eyes as he held his first son, quickly moving to set the infant on Maria’s engorged chest.
“Oh he’s beautiful!” Maria cried, holding her new baby and helping him latch on to her nipple. “Mm the next ones coming I can feel them.”
John rubbed Maria’s clit as she pushed, making her moan and her legs squirm as she struggled with the second baby’s larger head. He smiled and rubbed her underbelly, feeling the seven left inside her still kicking hard.
“Almost there, baby,” John smiled, rubbing his fingers around the bulging head and feeling his wife cum as she pushed again, freeing the second infant from her. “Good baby, one more big push.”
Nick held his mom tight as she pushed once more, sitting behind her and letting her head rest against his chest. The second baby, a big 12 lb girl, was soon placed next to her brother on Maria’s chest.
“I…I can’t believe it! There’s still six left,” Maria groaned as contractions came fast, the six still inside her eager to escape their cramped home. “Hooo, John it feels so good having your babies!”
The third one came faster than John could anticipate, his hands barely catching the baby girl as Maria’s pussy stretched around her.
“Slow down,” John cooed. “It’s okay baby girl, you're doing so good. Just breathe.”
Maria moaned and leaned against Nick again, shaking her head wildly, her eyes unfocused as she felt the babies fighting to be next to be birthed. “They’re…they’re all coming so fast! I can’t…I have to push!”
Nick squeezed Maria’s hands and whispered to her “You’re doing great. Breathe with me.”
Nick got Maria to do her Lamaze breathing as the fourth baby crowned, John pulling the overgrown boy free from her with another push.
“Halfway there,” John said. He looked over his wife’s belly at his stepson. “Keep her breathing even, these last ones are going to come fast.”
Nick nodded and kept his mothers focus on him, holding her as she struggled to push through the exhaustion after giving birth to four babies.
“You got this mom, only a few left and then you can rest,” Nick said. “In and out…in and out…”
John took over telling her when to push, not wanting her to strain unnecessarily and exhaust herself more than she already was. After six long hours in labor all the babies were finally born, weighing between 9-13 lbs each, five boys and three girls sitting on their mothers chest as her husband and oldest held her.
“I did it,” Maria moaned, leaning against John and closing her eyes. “All our babies are here.”
“You did amazing,” John kissed his wife lovingly, stroking the heads of his babies as they slept in her arms. “I can’t believe we have our eight little ones here.”
“I can’t believe I finally get to be a big brother,” Nick chuckled.He looked at the exhausted woman and her husband, both of them still glowing and happy despite how tired they all were. “I’ll let you two rest. Call me if you need help, mom.”
Maria hugged her oldest son tight, kissing his cheek.
“Thank you, for everything. You’re the best son a mother could ask for.”
When Maria and the babies were all asleep and resting John came back downstairs, finding Nick asleep on the couch. He roused his stepson gently, the younger man sitting up concerned.
“Don’t worry, they’re all asleep and fine,” John whispered. “How are you doing?”
Nick rubbed his eyes and smiled, blushing as he thought about his mom growing even more. “I’m good. Excited. Tired. Are we ready to start the next experiment?”
John nodded. “It’ll take a few weeks for the fertility meds to kick in but once that happens she should get pregnant with double the amount easily. And she’s already proven to be an amazingly fertile woman even without the meds.”
“She’s going to be so big…” Nick mumbled. He shook his head. “What do you need me to do?”
“Any meal she eats I need the drugs to be in. Just ensure that she’s taking them at least three times a day. I’ll take care of the rest.” John winked and clapped him on the shoulder. “She’ll be pregnant again before you start school, I promise.”

a/n: ok so sorry for the delay darling but it’s here! i took this idea and turned it into a full on tntl bit + roast. hope u enjoy!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~°~❦~°~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Up next is (Y/n)!”
People clapped as Emily called out from behind the camera.
You walked out from behind the divider, a smile on your face as you approach the six people on the stools.
You had been working at Smosh for nearly a year now, but you had yet to appear on camera. When you had been asked to appear on one of the TNTL Gauntlet episodes with the rest of the crew, you were hesitant but had ultimately agreed.
You looked at your friends waiting for you to begin your bit. Your eyes lingered longer on Ian, your boyfriend of nearly four months. He gave you an encouraging smile and thumbs up.
“Hey guys,” you waved awkwardly, “Wow this is so exciting, I’ve never been on camera before!”
Shayne turned to face the camera from his stool. “(Y/n) is one of our writers and producers, for those of you that don’t know.”
You nodded as Ian said, “And my girlfriend!”
Everyone clapped and you felt yourself blush. “That’s news to me,” you teased.
“(Y/n), you’re making me look bad on camera,” Ian stage whispered.
“Doing that all on your own buddy,” Angela said, patting his shoulder.
Shayne, who had already started to take a sip of water, spit it out, laughing at her comment.
This made Courtney and Damien spit their water out and soon everyone was laughing.
“Ok guys, shut up, let (Y/n) do her bit,” Ian said, nodding at you.
“Ok, dad,” Angela rolled her eyes.
Once everyone had water in their mouth you answered him.
“Funny you should say that Ian,” you said, smiling sweetly as you looked at him.
He raised an eyebrow. You shot him a wink. Now that everyone’s attention was on you, waiting to see what you would do, you were suddenly nervous. You focused on Ian as you continued,
“So, um, as Ian told you, we’ve been dating for a little while now. And so I wanted to make this bit especially for him.”
“Oh my god I can’t wait for this,” Amanda said, around the water in her mouth.
“Since I wasn’t a part Smosh yet when Ian had his funeral,” you continued, still smiling brightly. “I thought I’d take this opportunity to give him my roast.”
Shayne clapped loudly and you looked at everyone’s widened eyes. Ian shook his head at you, eyes smiling.
“Ian don’t worry,” you turned to him. “I’m going to keep it light. I’m not going to say anything offensive or inappropriate—which I know is something you’re not familiar with so let me explain it in terms you’ll understand: 9/11, Columbine, that’s what she said, and something about Luigi Mangione?”
Shayne spit out his water, looking shocked. Ian played along, shrugging. You tucked your hair behind your ears—you were just getting started.
“But Ian isn’t all dark humor and Challenger’s references. As I’ve gotten to know him, I’ve really gotten to see who he really is. Which is some combination of the kid from Toy Story and Jared Bailey if he was depressed and looked like Matt Walsh.”
Everyone else spit their water out now, except for Ian who crossed his arms at you, feigning offense.
“This is so good!” Angela yelled. You continued.
“No, but Ian is amazing. And he’s a really great boyfriend. He’ll tell you that you look gorgeous and give you lots of affection and he’ll make you feel so loved and desired—
You paused for effect.
“—or so Anthony’s told me.”
Ian spit now, laughing with everyone else. “No need to out me like that.”
“This is insane,” Shayne wheezed, wiping his eyes.
“But all jokes aside,” you started. “Ian is really special and he’s contributed a lot to society…and to science. I mean, as the only person to breastfeed until the age of 13, he’s been so useful to so many studies.”
“This,” Amanda said through her laughter, “is actually so crazy.”
“You’re getting owned,” Courtney shoved Ian’s shoulder playfully.
You smiled, feeling encouraged by their laughter and not feeling nearly as nervous as you had at the beginning.
You glanced at Ian. He was shaking his head at you, a proud look on his face.
You cleared your throat.
“And I know everyone likes to give Ian crap for his fashion sense—probably because of the gum-ball machine chic chains and the ‘piña colada threw up on me’ vibes—”
“Hey, that shirt is fire,” Shayne defended.
“Thank you!” Ian exclaimed.
“—but I think Ian does have a good fashion sense. I’m sure all the bi girls are so happy that you stole their style and somehow made it so much more white trash.”
“It’s too real,” Angela said through tears of laughter as Damien blew out an astonished breath.
“What I’m trying to say, Ian,” you said, turning to him. “is that I’m so glad we’re together and I know you would never cheat on me—or at least I think. Last time I asked you about it you just shot yourself with a water gun so I’m not really sure what…”
You trailed off as Ian threw up his hands.
“Anyway,” you said, smiling brightly at Ian as he grinned back at you. “I love you Ian and I can’t imagine my life without you in it and I’ll always want you around—even if Angry Birds 2 didn’t.”
As you finished, the cast on camera and the crew off camera burst into applause and you felt your cheeks warm as you did a little bow.
“Damn,” Shayne cursed once the room had quieted, looking shocked and impressed. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard
(Y/n) say anything bad about someone ever.”
“Ian how do you feel?” Damien asked.
“Yeah my guy, you were just annihilated,” Courtney giggled.
Ian looked at you as he answered them. “I’ve never felt better.”
“Awww,” Amanda cooed, nudging Angela. “They’re weird and in love!”
“Ew,” Angela joked. “That’s mom and dad you’re talking about.”
You laughed, catching Ian’s eye as you walked backwards off the set and back behind the divider.
“Seriously though, that shirt slaps, dude,” you hear Shayne saying as you walk away.
You beamed to yourself. All in all, you’d say your first TNTL was a success.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
You found Ian immediately after the episode was finished filming. As you passed people, you were showered with praise and comments about your roast.
It felt good, having your first time on camera go so well. For so long everyone had known you as the shy, quiet type. Always having something kind to say to someone, an encouraging word to offer. It was nice knowing they all now knew this side of you too.
You walked up to Ian, grabbing his hand. “How’d I do?” You asked him.
He leaned in and kissed you. “Mmm, you were perfect. I’m questioning my whole identity.”
“Yeah? I didn’t go to hard on you,” you mumbled against his lips.
“Nah, everything you said was probably true,” he joked in between kisses. “And I love you even more because not only is my girlfriend sweet and caring and incredibly sexy, she’s also insanely funny and one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”
You smiled against him. “You’re not so bad yourself.”
He pulled back, his hand trailing down your arm. “Really? I thought I was immature and unstylish.”
“And I love you even more because of it,” you teased.
“Hey, (Y/n)?”
You turned to find Amanda standing behind you. You grabbed Ian’s arm, pulling him close to you as you focused your attention on her.
“Don’t mean to interrupt but—can you write my roast for Angela’s funeral? You’re so good at it and I can’t think of anything that rhymes with ‘drank paint’.”
Just thinking about arguing with boyfriend!price. This doesn't have a happy ending, or maybe it does? IDK. This is an angsty drabble, not necessarily a fic.
Price would be waiting for you at home. Whiskey in hand as he watches the door knob turn upon your arrival. Downing the rest of his drink, he feels the alcohol burn down his throat.
“Where were you tonight?”
His voice distracts you from your thoughts. You frown, not even given a second to just breathe in your own home.
“Work.” You slip off your shoes and reach for the mail, making your way into the kitchen. “Work held me back.”
“Really?” John asks, following you from behind. “We lying to each other now?” His heart tugs at the thought that you’d be untrue right to his face. What were you hiding? Did he even want to know?
“What?” You chuckle, placing the letters on the countertop. Looking into John’s hazel eyes, you couldn’t decipher the expression on his stone-cold face.
Unmoving.
Your boyfriend meant what he asked.
Two unstoppable forces staring the other down.
Blinking at him to bring yourself back to reality, you realized he was still waiting for an answer.
“I’m not lying to you.” You roll your eyes, “I really was caught up at work.”
“Caught up working at Tattersalls?” He places his phone down and points at the map with your dot at the restaurant. “The same place I took you to on our first date?”
“Hold on.” Crossing your arms, the anger in you bubbled. “You tracking me?”
“Answer me first.”
There was always a push and pull connection you two had. Both of you were forces of nature to be reckoned with and when you both believed yourself to be right, there was reasoning with the other. It shouldn't have surprised you that John was checking your location. Given what he did, your safety came first. But now? It felt like a breach of trust.
“Okay fine. I was at the restaurant.” You admitted, moving past John to head to your shared bedroom. The closer you were to him, the harder it was to process your thoughts. Why did he care so much?
“My boss wanted to impress a new partner and brought me along because he thinks I’m good with people.”
“Bullshit.” he mumbles, following you into the bedroom.
“Excuse me?” You quirk a brow at his statement. “What part of that is bullshit?”
“All of it.”
John hates that you have this control over him. He hates the idea you spent your night with someone else when it should've been with him, Only him. He couldn’t help but feel so trapped by your love.
“Yeah. Sure.” You nod, going into the bathroom to change out of your work clothes. You’d no idea what had gotten into your boyfriend but you didn’t have the energy to find out.
After you changed, you saw him leaned against the doorframe to your bedroom.
“So then what’s his name?” He presses. His own heartbreaking at your responses.
“We’re still on this? Okay.” You put your clothes away and try to figure him out. “You wanna call my boss? He’ll tell you it was for work.”
“No, I want you to tell me his name.”
“Fine.” Placing your hands on your hips, you knew John wasn’t going to let this go. So you entertain the conversation. He's always so headstrong.
“I was with Simon.”
“I knew it.” He pinches the bridge of his nose. “For how long?”
His question caught you off guard. John truly believed you were out with another man. Something was bubbling in you. Your fists curled at your side given John's accusations.
“You seriously believe that? John. Come on now…”
“I don’t know what to believe.”
“Believe me! Your girlfriend.” You state. “Believe me when I say I was at a work dinner.”
“No, I’mma call Simon.” He points a finger at you, "Your story better check out."
“Do it! Call my boss too, fuck.” You push past his shoulder and head anywhere away from him. He always had a way to fill the space in any room & John always thought the same about you.
“What the hell is your problem?” You snap, feeling his presence right behind you. He followed you into the living room like a lost puppy. In truth, John was tethered to you in a way that even he didn't understand.
John takes a step forward and places his hands over his chest, “I don’t have a problem. I’m not the one lying to you.”
“I wasn’t lying, John!” You sigh exasperatedly. There were only so many ways you could tell him that you were always faithful to him.
“Then why didn’t you tell me from the start where you were?”
“Because it was last minute.”
“So last minute you couldn’t tell me?”
“Alright! Fine. I'm sorry.” The apology was just to satiate his tireless jabs. “You’re right. I should’ve texted you at the very least and for that, I’m sorry.”
John has a whole monologue in his head but wasn’t prepared for the words that came from your mouth. It should’ve been enough. He should’ve told you he was sorry too. He wanted to tell you how much he loved you. In fact, he was about to when jealousy got the better of him.
“Okay. Apology accepted" He gruffed out. "But then why'd ya bring Simon into this?”
“What are you talking about?”
“You fancy him?”
“You know what?” You were trying to understand his perspective but none of it added up. “Now I know you’re just picking a fight.”
The fact you didn’t answer his question only riled him up more. Was there something you weren’t telling him? John was a stoic man but one who always fought tired and true for his loved ones.
“Picking a fight?” He repeats. “No, picking a fight would be telling my family you don't want to take on my last name if we got married.”
“Because maybe I don’t want to marry you!”
Just like that the world stood still.
Your chest heaving as though you’d been running from this very fact for so long that it had finally caught up to you.
John could feel the earth beneath him shake from your admission. His world was about to be ripped from him and he had no clue what to do.
Weak knees caused him to take a seat on the sofa. If he could slip through its cushions and disappear forever, he would.
You chewed your bottom lip, with no clue what John was feeling but you were sure your truth just shattered his world. Slowly, you took a few steps closer to him and sat beside him on the couch.
This closeness use to be electric but now it felt like a stranger passing.
Silence filled the air, which was much needed after the fighting words you both shared.
“Do you remember when we first said I love you?”
Silence.
He lifts his face away from his palms and stares ahead. John couldn’t feel and yet, he felt everything at once. But he knew you were waiting for an answer.
“Of course.”
“I never stopped loving you…” You admitted. “I just think the love has changed.”
Backseats - Tony Stark x reader
Warnings: sex sex sexxx but not smut, mentions of injuries, typical pregnancy talk
Words: 3.7k
Rating: M
Summary: Tony grapples with the fact that, after finally getting you pregnant, you’re a bit more pregnant than either of you expected.
or
In which almost every important thing since you met Tony seems to happen in the backseat of a car.
Had an exact idea for this, and it just came out for once, ending me with a sweet little one-shot I’m happy to say came out exactly how I wanted. Hope you enjoy!
Little unfun fact, I may have broken my foot halfway through finishing this. Won’t know till tomorrow, but I am quite pissed
Also want to note that I didn’t notice till I was about half done, but there’s not actual reference to Tony being Iron Man or having the arc reactor anywhere in this. I didn’t exactly do this on purpose but it felt worth pointing out
Ao3 link
“No. No, that’s entirely too many.”
Tony was sat beside you at your ultrasound appointment, squinting to get a better look at the image being displayed.
“Tony…” you started, though you weren’t sure how to continue.
He pulled his hands out of his pockets, standing up.
“Did I hit my head?” He tapped the monitor, and the doctor gave you a disapproving look you could do nothing but shake your head at, shrugging.
“Are you seeing this?” He looked at you, head at a tilt.
“Yes. I told you.”
“You’re kidding me. Tell me you’re kidding me, this has got to be some sort of prank.”
He tapped his foot in relative silence for a moment, chewing his lip.
“We’ve got to downsize.” You gave him an unamused frown, to which he put his hands up defensively.
“Only joking.” He said.
“Don’t even.” You said. Any way you interpreted that wasn’t funny.
“What’s the odds on that, by the way?” He inquired.
“IVF brings a much higher chance of multiples, so not that unlikely, actually.”
You’d only gone for artificial methods after banging for almost a year with no results.
Despite supplements and tracking and Tony stepping it up, something just wasn’t working.
You’d brought it up when he made it home late one night.
“You look lively after fourteen hours.” You said from the couch as Tony walked in, dumping his briefcase by the stairs for later.
“Private plane’ll do that. I’m not even tired, I think I’ve grown immune to jet lag.”
“How’d it go?”
“It was wild. They asked about you. I said you’d gotten into beekeeping.”
“That’s what we’re saying now?” You teased.
“Hey, whatever they’ll print.”
“Appreciate it.”
You could only manage flying once or twice a year, otherwise? You could handle not seeing Tony for a few days. In fact, more times than not you could use it.
“Aside that, it has been a hell of a day. Meet you in bed?”
“Sure thing.”
With that and a kiss on the cheek, he went off to the bathroom.
You headed to the bedroom, and a few minutes later Tony joined you, already stripped to his slacks.
“God you look sexy when you do that.” He murmured, pulling off his socks and getting on the bed next to you.
“I’m not doing anything,”
“Exactly. You don’t need to.”
He tugged off what little you were wearing, situating himself between your legs.
“You gotta shave if I’m gonna do this.” He blew a tuft of hair off his forehead.
“You offered.”
“As if I’m going to pass it up, please. Waiter? There’s a hair in my meal.” He spat, picking at his tongue, making you giggle.
He smiled. finished undressing and crawled up to kiss you, pulling you down by the waist off the headboard to on your back in the pillows.
You stared ahead, brow drawn as he pulled your leg up over his shoulder.
“Jesus that feels like coming home.” He huffed.
“Tony?”
“Yeah?”
“Why haven’t I gotten pregnant yet?” He slowed, giving you a look.
“Well I wouldn’t know. Hormones, cycles, the whole thing‘s finicky, never really made sense of it myself.”
”Tony.” You voiced with a groan, scrunching your nose.
“You want me to stop right now and answer?”
“No, I just– I’m serious.”
“So am I. I don’t know.”
You sat up on your elbows, and Tony sighed, dropping your leg and sitting back. “Think maybe we should try something different?” You said.
“Like what?”
“You know.”
He sucked in a breath through his teeth. “Not to be possessive, or whatever it’s called now, but I really don’t like to share.”
“Oh Jesus, Tony, no! I mean like artificial insemination, IVF, you know, that kind of thing.”
“Thank god. Though I was afraid you meant that.” He sighed, resting on his haunches. “Frick.”
“You don’t want to?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to…” he scratched his chin. “Actually, yes it is. I don’t want to. Scoot.”
You moved over so he could pull his legs out from under him and climb up next to you, pushing the covers out of the way, gesturing for you.
You laid back into his arms.
“No, we’ll keep trying. It’ll sort itself out, I’m sure.”
“Any particular reason?”
“Do we have to get into it? I just don’t want to.”
“All right then.” You leaned up and kissed him, pulling him against you.
You liked Tony because you hadn’t known who he was when you met him. He was stranded from some failed scheduling, and in the backseat of a ride share he’d asked to borrow your phone like any other person would.
“Really, just one call and I’ll give it right back.”
You'd rolled your eyes, but handed it over. “You should put your seatbelt on.” You had said.
“I’m like ten minutes from where I’m going, this guy doesn’t care.”
And then when he gave it back to you, you had found his number in it.
You’d called him the next day, of course, with full intent to tell him to buzz off, only to be stunned into intrigue.
“Great. Now I have yours.” Had been all he said before hanging up.
After that, you texted near daily. He wasn’t always the greatest at responding, so you preferred video calls. It was like that for months before you finally went out. You played hard to get, right up until he got you.
You had told him it was on one condition, that he wouldn’t chew you up and spit you out like he did to supermodels and reporters, or say, his secretary.
That if you were going to date him, and really date him, that he’d have to be all in, it was you or bust; you weren’t going to let him play you into something just for it to fall through.
Not when you knew he was the only one for you.
He’d only said one thing to that: “Done.”
And two weeks later he proposed to you on live television.
The media still didn’t believe, no matter how many times Tony said you were special, that you were going to last.
Stuff spread fast as soon as you were seen in public together, journalists certain you were his latest in a long line of heartless flings.
So you agreed to help him change that.
“Go easy on her, yeah? She’s not used to television, but it's cool, because she agreed to be here with me, and honestly that’s enough work in a relationship on its own, I think she’s clear for the year.” Watching Tony beam on camera, every ounce of charm working, was worth it on its own.
“Well we’ve got some great stuff planned for tonight, so don’t you worry.”
You smiled, seated on that couch next to him in front of a whole studio audience and probably millions of viewers, because although you felt out of place, and a little in over your head, Tony kept his hand on yours damn near the entire time.
Despite being asked a few questions, Tony answered most of them for you, dismissing any negative rhetoric coming your way, which you appreciated, because you could hardly believe the audacity of some of the things they were saying.
You wouldn’t have agreed to do it if Tony hadn’t let you pick your own outfit, a loose, patterned jumpsuit, and made sure you didn’t have to wear any makeup that you didn’t usually.
You got to show off when they asked about it, giving a spin Tony stayed holding your hand through, to lots of claps and applause, which would’ve been your highlight of the night if not for what came right after.
“Well might I just say I think I speak for everyone when I say you look amazing tonight,” the interviewer complimented a little too gushingly, eyeing you.
“Hey, easy. I am taken.” You spoke up, smiling thinly.
“Fiery; I like it. Where’s he been keeping you!”
“Wherever she pleases,” Tony said. “As it turns out, because I don’t keep her.”
“So, last question, have you thought about settling down?” The interviewer pivoted, letting you breathe easier, not wanting but more than willing to make a scene over anything more.
“Thought about? Oh yeah.” Tony said. “We’re pretty inseparable as it is. I don’t go a day without talking to her.” He glanced at you, brown eyes shining. “We’ve discussed it a little. Playfully, mostly. I don’t doubt why she doesn’t always take me seriously.”
“Does marriage scare you?” The interviewer asked.
“Terrifies, if I’m honest. But actually, it’s more the asking, you know, the hardest part is deciding when is a good time.”
You straightened your back, alert as Tony leaned back to dig around in the pocket of his suit before standing, giving you a nod as you stared at him with wide eyes, getting down on one knee.
You could feel how red your face must’ve been with all the cameras on you.
“You’d make me the happiest man on Earth if you said yes.”
The interview had been to announce you were together, among other things, after months of tabloids and speculation, to clear things up. Though the way Tony had phrased it beforehand made it all make a lot more sense.
“I just wanna let the world know I’ve met someone really special, and I’ve changed. I want to show them.” He adjusted your mic backstages behind the tech’s back, placing his hands on your upper arms.
“Because things are gonna change.”
The interview blew up, and pictures of your red, tear stained, smiling face as Tony hugged you, engagement ring held up, displayed proudly on your hand, were in articles and magazines the world over.
All the attention was a little overwhelming, but you were the most thrilled you had ever been in your life to be engaged to Tony Stark.
He’d asked you after, on the way home, if it was too much, but you assured him it was perfect.
“I thought about it immediately when I was asked to do the interview, and I knew if I didn’t do it then I was going to put it off. So I’m, how you say…”
“Sorry?”
“That.” You gave him an expectant eyebrow raise.
“I’m… sorry if I made you uncomfortable, but you don’t deserve that, being strung out.”
“It was very you. I still can’t believe I didn’t see it coming, I was so nervous.”
“I saw that, I was afraid you’d faint.”
“Oh lord, don’t even say that!” You laughed, giving him a shove.
“It’s fine, I would’ve caught you.” He kissed your ear, giving it a tug with his teeth before you threw your arms over his shoulders and pushed him into a breathless kiss.
You first started trying for a baby four months after the wedding.
“Hey, be here when we’re done, yeah? It’s gonna be a long night. You get in there, get yourself a drink, enjoy.” Tony dismissed the cab driver with a tip.
“I cannot stand when they talk. Tell me again why we couldn’t get a limo?” You were fidgeting, not because of nerves, but excitement.
“Whatcha smilin’ about? It’s just an action flick, probably not even good.” You would forever commend Tony on his ability to read a room, mood, or vibe without seeming to even look. Especially when it came to you.
“I was going to tell you when we got home tonight.”
“Tell me…?” He tilted his head at you, doing that thing with his lips that never failed to make your chest tight. “We’re not getting back till late, come on.” He urged.
“You know we were talking last month, and I– I took it to heart.”
“Oh?”
You took a deep breath. “I stopped taking my birth control yesterday.”
His eyes lit up. “You serious?”
“I think I’m ready.” You nodded.
He all but tackled you in the backseat of that cab, littering your jaw in kisses before moving down to your cleavage, making you yelp.
“It’s not going to work yet!” You laughed.
“Doesn’t mean I can’t try. Celebratory sex, you, me, now.”
“Tony…! We’ve got a premiere!”
He brought up his watch, squinting.
“I’ve got ten minutes and a hard-on, seriously, they’re still playing ads, we won’t miss a thing. And ‘sides, I gotta practice dropping my pullout game.”
“You are unbelievable.”
“Won’t make a mess, swear it.”
“God I love you.” You gripped his lapel, pulling him into a kiss.
Having straightened out your two-piece and fixed Tony’s hair, grinning when he gave your ass a more than friendly pat, you started the couple blocks to the theater.
“Right, let’s hurry.” You crossed the street, close by his side.
“You really cut it close.” You shook your head at him, double checking your clothes.
“Completely worth it. Do it again in a heartbeat.”
You swore you always felt like a teenager with their first crush around him, the way he looked at you, always excited you were in the room.
He took your hand, letting his fingers thread with yours.
“hey so, I promise I’m gonna be a better dad than mine was. I know I’m not great, but… I promise I’m gonna be decent.”
“You’re already half there.” You squeezed his hand, giving him a nudge.
“You think so?”
“I wouldn’t have married you otherwise.”
He kissed the crown of your head, before lights and cameras surrounded you both on the carpet.
But not everything had been roses.
A few months after that, you’d both been in an accident.
Tony had been driving, when a tire blew along a turn, sending the car over the side of the highway into the bushes.
He'd gone through the windshield, hitting the hood and landing a few feet in front of the car in the dirt.
You scrambled to unfasten your seatbelt, stumbling dazedly out the passenger door onto your hands, shaking it off and rushing to Tony.
“Oh my god, Tony!” Relief washed over you as he groaned when you turned him over.
“Ow .”
“Are you hurt?”
“Jesus, duh.” He felt his face and chest, blinking through the bleary vision.
“Just my head, I think, but holy shit.”
You helped him up into the backseat, pulling out your phone and dialing 911.
“I’m calling an ambulance.”
You grabbed Tony’s handkerchief for the bleeding from his head, telling the operator where you were and what happened, as well as your husband’s condition.
“Right, they’re on their way. Don’t lean back, sit up.”
”We should try IVF.”
“What?”
“You mentioned it, and I know I said I was against it, but I think we need to look into it.”
“Tony we were just in a car crash–”
“Yeah and I really put something into perspective for me. I really don’t want to die before we manage to conceive.”
“That’s what you were thinking about?” You couldn’t help but laugh under your breath.
“Deadass, sweetie. Imagine how ridiculous it would be if we ended up childless at like fifty because I was too worried about being seen as inadequate.”
“You’re kidding me. That’s why you didn’t want to?”
“Come on. It should be obvious. I spent years sleeping around, making my name synonymous with sex, and I can’t even get my wife pregnant? I would never live that down.”
“Hey, it was not for lack of trying.”
“Don’t I know it.” He huffed, wincing as you checked where you’d been staunching his head.
“I want kids with you.” He said. “And I mean that.”
“Yeah, okay.” You nodded.
“Okay? Okay.”
A half hour or so later the ambulance showed up, and you spent the rest of the evening getting Tony stitches.
He’d been lucky a concussion and a couple fractured ribs was all he got off with, and he wouldn’t have even gotten that if he’d been wearing a seatbelt.
“I guess there’s something to be said for getting it over with.” Back in the present, Tony was still talking himself into the news.
“What do I know, maybe it’s incredibly efficient.” He sighed. “How many did you want again?”
“Like, two?” You threw out.
“Surprise, bonus for ya.” He gestured like he was pulling a slot machine. “You struck a three for one, cash-in is in eight months. Hope you know this is your early birthday gift. Christmas too.”
“That’s a relief.” You shook your head, remembering the last time Tony tried to get you something, and just how much of a disaster it was.
“Don’t make fun of me, I’m in a very vulnerable place right now.” He teased, but you could tell there was some seriousness behind it.
“Three kids…” he exhaled a drawn out breath.
“You’re gonna do great.” You said.
“I am? I should be the one telling you. It is safe, correct?” He addressed the doctor.
“We’ll have to see how the pregnancy develops, twins and triplets are almost always born premature, which adds risk to any delivery.”
“And they are?” The doctor gave him a confused look.
“Boys? Girls? Other? All of the above?”
“It’s too early to tell.”
“Of course. What was I thinking. Right, well, thanks for the news.”
He was quiet as you wrapped up, getting cleaned up, and printed off your pictures—three little fuzzy black and white shapes.
“You good?” You asked out in the hall, on your way to the rear exit, noticing how out of it Tony looked.
“I’m gonna need to think about it. I’m kinda tingly in the fingers, my heart’s racing, I think I’m still in denial.”
As you approached the glass door, Tony stopped you with an arm, biting his lip.
“Shit.”
You followed his gaze to the moderately sized crowd outside, feeling your heart sink.
“Oh goddamnit.”
“Don’t people have anything better to do with their lives?” Tony muttered.
“How. We took surface roads and parked behind the hospital!” You groaned.
“Where there's a me there’s a camera hoping to catch something. Car’s close, yeah?” He asked.
“Yeah.”
“Right. Deep breath.”
He tugged off his jacket, covering you as you made your way to the car, ducking you inside while camera flashes snapped from every direction.
“Mister Stark! Mister Stark! Are you currently going through IVF treatment?”
“Is your wife expecting?”
“Sir, is it true you’re going to be a father soon?”
“Fine, you might as well know now.” He caught your eye through the gap of the tinted car window, and you furrowed your brow.
“My wife and I are expecting. We’re having triplets.” He said.
“And that’s a you get.”
You moved over as he opened the door and got in the seat beside you, quickly shutting it behind him.
“I can’t believe you just did that.”
“Yeah, believe it, before I change my mind.”
“You can’t take it back now!”
“Well yeah, but if I could, you would have to accept that I wouldn’t, unless I changed my mind, or you really wanted me to, in which case I’d figure it out.”
“What?”
“Nevermind.” He rolled up his window the rest of the way, drowning out the paparazzi still clamoring for his attention outside.
“Hey,” you put your hand on his thigh. “Thank you, Tony.”
“I’m not the one who’s going to have three human beings inside her, and not in a fun way. Jesus, you’re going to get huge.” He looked down at your stomach, then back up into your eyes.
“You’re having triplets?” Happy exclaimed from the front seat.
“Christ, Happy, you are not a part of this conversation.” Tony gave a dramatic slump against his headrest, throwing his hand up. “Is privacy dead!”
“Yes, we’re having triplets.” You confirmed with a smile.
Tony turned back to you. “But you are welcome. My sperm and all. Sorry I couldn’t get it the old fashioned way.”
“I am not complaining.”
Happy started the car.
“Seatbelt,” you gave Tony's arm a tap with the back of your hand, and he quickly buckled himself in, kissing his fingers as you drove off.
“What’s that for?” You asked.
“I’m kissing my free time goodbye.” He exhaled heavily.
“Half the house is going to be kids’ stuff, isn’t it?”
“Half the house is going to be kids’ stuff.” You chuckled.
“Not the basement.”
“Basement can stay.” You assured him.
“I’m gonna have to uninstall the fountain, aren’t I? It’s just not safe.”
“I wasn’t gonna say it.”
“Holy shit, what are we gonna name them!” He interjected,, his expression somewhere between panicked and elated.
“‘Cause all I’ve only got Maria. That’s it. Does first to pop out get priority, or…?” He showed his teeth, gesturing. “There’s gotta be at least one girl out of three, right?”
“Actually, I was thinking Virginia for a girl.”
“That’s funny.“ He deadpanned.
“She’s been a big help.” You shrugged.
“You got me laughing.” He shook his head.
“But seriously. I’m typically great at naming things, but, people who can get mad at me later– not to mention something I’m gonna have to call out across the house only about three million times, I’m not so sure if I want that to be my mom’s name.”
“We’ll figure it out.” You ran a hand through where his hair had shuck loose to hang in his eyes, kissing his cheek.
It was wild to think less than a two years ago you’d met him for the very first time, and now you were closer to him than anyone, married and having kids.
“Hey Happy, closest drive through with ice cream?” Tony leaned forward to ask.
“You know this woman had ice cream every day while she was pregnant, and apparently, full fat ice cream has like fourteen grams of protein per cup? It’s nuts. More if you add nuts now I think about it. That’s not a bad idea. Butter pecan?”
“Ice cream sounds great right now.”
“I’m not suggesting you do that, but as far as becoming a picky eater goes… not the worst idea.”
You pulled through a Dairy Queen, getting two butter pecan ice creams.
Tony pulled out his phone and held up his spoon, clinking it with yours.
“To becoming parents.” He toasted, kissing a bit of pecan off your upper lip, snapping a picture of you both as you laughed.
Hii!! Um I’m just curious about how you draw anatomy :D I absolutely LOVELOVELOVEEE your artstyle along with the coloring!! If you’re fine with it, can you give a breakdown how you draw anatomy? Or maybe how you suggest learning how to draw anatomy better- DW I UNDERSTAND IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SHARE THAT‼️ Either way it’s nice looking at your art and learning from it!!
hii!! ty ty that’s very sweet of you to say 😭💕
I’m actually not that good at anatomy myself and if I have to draw parts of naked body I surround myself with references 🥴 in any other case I just use blocks to make a rough sketch which I then dress up like a doll, so it’s not so much about anatomy as it is about proportions and shapes (which I suggest to learn first thing bc that’s what we started with at art school :p)
I really don’t think you need to know the name and exact form of every bone from the bottom to the top to draw people well enough, IMO all you need as a core except for named above are the very general things like the way leg bones connect with pelvic bones, or the rib cage shape and how it can differ, or, for example, those anchor points where the bones are practically not hidden by anything, like the collarbones or upper anterior iliac spine and etc etc. what I’m trying to say is you don’t have to memorise skeleton and all the muscles in all details, especially in the beginning 🤓
in terms or advices I probably won’t say anything new: when I get an annual urge to learn anatomy more or need a reference I go through Anatomy for Sculptores since everything is very clearly shown there or straight to youtube and watch channels like Proko. he actually has a very useful practice in homework to find muscles or bones on a photo and draw it on top/separately. I myself rarely do it and I’m ashamed bc when I actually did it was so helpful for understanding 😭
I also have a few pinterest boards for anatomy and love to look at pics like these, gives me a better understanding of volumes and the way shading should go
I tried to read Bammes too but it has A LOT of (not so necessary on practice IMO) info (and a lot of typos in russian version) which is too much for my one and only braincell and I can’t remember a single thing for a dear life of mine from there 😭😭😭 schemes are good tho 🤓
heard good things about Figure drawing, Design and Invention by Michael Hampton and Morpho series (especially Simplified Forms) by Michel Lauricella but haven’t gotten my hands on them yet
I actually have this recs from someone on IG, can’t remember who it was sadly
and ofc looking at and drawing real ppl helps not only to understand how anatomy works but also how our body parts can hugely differ, even if it’s the exact same muscle
anyways sorry for a lot of letters, here is an edit of different sketches I have in timelapses, you can see how I usually do them 👀 I also tend to be lazy and sketch things without refs just to get confused on a rendering stage and redo anatomy on top with refs so I added one full timelapse just to show it 🤓
Uh I love going through your channel and reading all of the stories you come up with and I’m amazed and love them. It brings me joy to read them. I don’t know if you take requests I was wondering if you could do one where race has some problems and Jack is the only one who can get him to talk. Thank you!!!
i loved this ask! played around with it a bit and created a piece full of brotherly love that i'm truly hoping is what you were looking for!
have this little slice of life :)
.....
little ray of sun-- racetrack and jack
By all accounts, Jack Kelly had a decent day. He’d spent the morning pissing Pulitzer off by drawing egregious comics all of the other artists found funny, flinging droplets of ink onto the man’s shoes every time he strolled up to his desk, and using the most horrible grammar he could muster. By five, Pulitzer’s jaw was twitching but he had three spectacular political comics staring him down, so he couldn’t complain. Instead he glared up at Jack and a snarl formed beneath his perfectly groomed mustache as he dismissed him for the day.
Pushing old Joe’s buttons was Jack’s favorite work pastime when he worked at The World on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It always put him in a chipper mood to know that he was one of the most popular artists on Pulitzer’s team, so the old bastard couldn’t really fire him even if he wanted to since people were raving about his comics. He couldn't fire him over little things anyways, like Jack putting his feet up on his desk or wearing a bandana ‘round his neck instead of a tie. He’d gotten good at subtly irking the man without breaking any office rules, and it added a bit of life to his boring office work. When he earned that little jaw twitch? Well, Jack considered the day a win.
He carefully shelled out a few cents on a pretzel for dinner and finished it on his way back to the Lodgings, brushing the coarse salt off on his trousers and whistling to himself as he walked. At his core, Jack Kelly was a little shit. He enjoyed his little shit moments when he could.
As he dreamed up ways to dramatically retell his office antics for the littlest newsies, he rounded the corner to find Albert’s head of gleamingly red hair perched on the steps leading up to the familiar lodging house. The moment the sarcastic ginger laid eyes on him found him shooting to his feet and practically speedwalking to Jack.
“Kelly!”
“Yo, Albert.” Jack greeted cheerfully, removing his own hat and pushing a hand through his hair as he took a glance at the distressed expression on the freckled face in front of him. His cheer seemed to slip into nothingness. “Everythin’ okay?”
Half of Albert’s thin mouth curled into a snarl. “No. Obviously it ain’t. It’s fuckin’ Racer, Jack, he’s– he’s doing that thing he does and I dunno what the fuck to do.”
“Ah, shit.” Jack sighed, glancing up at the doors as a spike of worry for his almost-little-brother shot through his chest. Tension coiled through his limbs. “Okay, I’ll handle it–”
“You better, man, because I couldn’t. I even got Crutch and Davey to try. He wouldn’t budge, wouldn’t say a goddamn word to us. Davey’s out collecting bits from the guys to pay for Race’s bunk tonight, and I’m sure he’s gonna get enough, but this can’t happen tomorrow. Racer’s already short on cash–” Despite Albert’s harsh, biting tone, Jack knew the kid well enough to see deeply rooted concern in the furrow of his brow and the tight shrug of his shoulders. He was tense right up to his ears.
“I got it, Albert. Anyone tried getting him to eat yet?” He started a quick jog up the stairs and into the building. Though Jack knew what to do, that didn’t make him any less jittery when things like this happened.
He found himself despising his ‘real job’ because it meant he couldn’t spend mornings here with the boys. If he’d’ve known about Race’s situation sooner, maybe his brother wouldn’t’ve missed out on a day of selling. Jack barely checked in with Kloppman as he thundered up the stairs, Albert trailing behind and talking a mile a minute through a lopsided, thickly accented mouth. His speech might’ve sounded like another language to someone that didn’t know him well.
“Yeah, Crutch’s up there workin’ on dinner. I just dunno what coulda caused this one, Jack, he seemed fine yesterday and he was playin’ poker last night before bed– he seemed fuckin’ normal and now he ain’t even speakin’ to anyone–”
“Well, sometimes there ain’t a reason.” Jack toed open the door to the bunkroom and Albert stumbled to a halt behind him, both of them gazing at the sight of Crutchie murmuring softly to a despondent lump of Racetrack. Other newsies lingered silently around, awkwardly pretending like they weren’t nosy-ly watching the scene in the corner unfold. Jack’s chest squeezed tightly and a soft exhale escaped him, worry and exasperation all in one. “Sometimes he just gets like this. But I’ll figure it out, Al, don’t go all batshit on me.”
The redhead practically growled, proving every stereotype of fiery gingers more than true at that moment. Race would be delighted to know that he had an angry guard dog as a best friend. “I ain’t even close to batshit, Kelly.”
“Well, if that's the case, why don’t’cha help Dave collect donations? Scare the kids into puttin’ a penny in your hat or somethin'.” He swiped Albert’s backwards cap right off his head and held it out with a well-practiced cheeky grin, earning him another sneer.
Albert snatched his cap back and stormed out of the room, each movement tight and tense with worry. Jack crossed the room in a few strong strides, gently tapping Crutchie on the shoulder. He held a glass of water and a sandwich wrapped in wax paper, both entirely untouched. When Crutch met his eyes, a silent understanding passed between them and like the well oiled machine of brotherhood they were, the boys switched places. Crutchie ruffled Jack’s hair and tucked his crutch beneath his arm, immediately limping off to go clear the stragglers out of the room.
Jack pushed a hand through Race’s head of fair hair and glanced over his expression– tight with sadness, blue eyes staring straight ahead. “Mornin’, buddy.”
Racer closed his eyes at the sound of Jack’s voice, which he took to be a good sign as he ran his fingers through his brother’s tangled hair. Jack's skin seemed darker than usual against the light coils of Race’s dirty hair, matted and tangled. “Rough day today?”
As expected, Jack didn’t receive a response. He carefully set the sandwich and water aside and tugged his fingers through Race’s hair. It wasn’t very intimate or sweet as it might’ve been with someone like Dave or Kath, because Race was a proper mess and his hair was beyond tangled. Jack worked the kinks out and watched his nose wrinkle and twitch, upper lip curling every so often as a reminder that he was cognitive and alive and feeling something, still.
“Everybody’s worried about you.” Jack started, trying not to betray just how deep that worry was. This wasn’t the first time– far from it– but that didn’t make it any less scary. “I am too, a’course. Wish I woulda been there for you this morning, buddy, but Bastard Old Joe would fire me if I was any more than a minute late to his shitty office. Still, ‘m here now. Want’cha to talk to me, if that’s appealing at all. You gotta talk to someone, after all, or Albert’s gonna get so mad his head’ll turn as red as his hair. Then he’ll explode or some shit, I dunno.”
Jack knew this side of Race like the back of his hand. He remembered countless days in their shared past when Race would wake up just the same as he was now, glued to the sheets and subdued and silent, remaining still and motionless for as long as possible. The impossibly impish trickster he normally was would disappear beneath lumps of thin quilt and stony silence would take over in its wake, turning Racer into someone unresponsive and lethargic. Jack had a hunch that it was because of the constant motion Racetrack was in. Always with a smirk or a stinging quip, running betting circles and poker games and puffing cigars. Full of biting sarcasm, mind racing a mile a minute, bright as a star with nowhere to shine. An engine constantly chugging along, overheating until the point of exhaustion. Breakdown. That was whatever this was– the point where he chugged to a sudden halt and collapsed, withdrawn and almost unreachable.
It happened once or twice a year, almost always in the bleak, dark, wintry months. Sometimes Race would spring out of bed the next morning, chipper like nothing ever happened. One time, when they were around ten and twelve, he was stuck in bed for a week. Jack wasn’t about to let that happen again.
“You don’t want Alfred to explode, do you? We’ll hafta find another token ginger…”
“No.” Race croaked, finally responding to the subtle joking that always drew him out of his shell.
That’s what Jack had figured out– gentle touches, lighthearted mood, quips and teases. It took that. He didn’t respond well to Crutchie’s optimistic mothering or Albert’s intense pushing. Jack could picture Davey in all of his awkward loveliness trying to sternly coach Race out of the bed with false logical positives, like he was waking Les up and trying to get him dressed for the day. No, Jack knew Race, and he knew that Race responded to the feeling that he hadn’t done anything wrong. That things were normal.
“That’s what I thought.” Jack responded, with the same calm cheer coloring his tone. “Now c’mon, you can’t let me have better hair than you for a whole day. You wanna get up? Have a bite of dinner? Looks like someone got you somethin' from Jacobi’s…”
After a moment of silence, Racetrack weakly shook his head and squeezed his eyes shut tightly. “Can’t.”
“Can’t get up, that’s okay. I ain’t gonna make you.” He parroted, gently pulling his fingers through Race’s separated curls. “I would like it if you’d talk to me, though. So’s I can get a good night’s sleep, knowin’ what’s on your mind. I know you like torturin’ me but I sorta need my rest…”
The blonde let out a quiet snort, the motion jerking the blankets he held clutched to his chest. Jack couldn’t help his own smile at the transformation in the younger boy’s expression. He seemed to soften around the edges, with a little exhale that spelled progress. “Can’t deprive the great President of his beauty sleep… How’s he gonna sell papes without his pretty boy face?”
“That’s the problem– I need my pretty boy face. It’s the only thing I got goin’ for me.” Jack joked back with practiced ease, like everything was fine and Race wasn’t having one of his bad days. It was good, and it worked, because Racer snorted again.
In one shift of obviously difficult motion, Racetrack rolled onto his back and stared up at the wood holding up the bunk above them. Jack placed a careful hand on his shoulder and went still, waiting patiently. He could see Race’s mind moving behind intelligent blue eyes, the dart of his irises and the wrinkle of his nose as he thought. Sorting through his thoughts. Analyzing. A mathematician's brain, not at all like Jack’s artist brain or Davey’s literature brain or Kath’s journalist brain. Solving a problem. Race was a skeleton of problems and solutions wrapped in skin with a trickster’s smile. He was missing one of his pieces in that bed, because half of his face was occupied by an uncharacteristic frown.
Finally, he spoke. “I can’t stop thinkin’ about what the fuck I’m gonna do after this.”
“After what?” Jack tried to put the pieces together, but he’d never been good at solving Race’s cryptic riddles. “When you get outta bed?”
“No. After all’a this.” He muttered, throwing one hand up as if gesturing to the entire bunkroom. “I got nothin’ planned. Once I’m eighteen and Klop gives me the boot, I’m done.”
Oh. Jack knew this rabbit hole of thought all too well. The cause of Race’s spiral was one that had caused him many spirals of his own, and it probably did the same for almost every newsboy that came before them. “You ain’t done. You basically got two years to figure shit out, man. Plus, you’se smart as a whip. Anybody would kill to have you workin’ for them if they knew how your brain worked.”
“Yeah, but they don’t, and since my Ma had to go and fuckin’ die on me, I ain’t got no schoolin’ to show for it. No proof.” He muttered, dragging his hands over his face. “I hit eighteen and boom, I’m on the streets. My Pa’s gonna want me to join his fuckin’ gang and I can’t do that, Jack, I swear to God–”
“You don’t hafta join any gang, Race, we’ll find you some other job. Stuff comes up when you least expect it. You gotta look at the good and the bad.” Jack reassured, carefully squeezing Race’s shoulder.
He sighed, hard and long. “Well sometimes it don’t feel like there’s any good.”
“Yeah, I hear you.” Jack responded, even though he knew the feeling far too well. Before Pulitzer miraculously offered that job, he’d been thinking the same thoughts. Now he was staring down the barrel of a secure future where he worked full time as an artist for the paper. It had all been pure luck. Chance. How was he supposed to explain that sorta thing? “I hear you, but you might not be lookin’ in the right places. Listen– we’ll get Davey on the job hunt with us. I’m sure he knows a couple places that are hiring. You can get in early, start up part time like me, work your way up. By the time you’se eighteen, you’se set.”
“Okay.” Race breathed, eyes fluttering shut. “Okay, that… that sounds okay.”
“Yeah?”
A tiny nod, a jostling of blonde curls. Jack let out a sigh of relief as Race finally pushed himself to sit up, rubbing his hands over his face. Every movement seemed like he was pushing through a sea of syrupy fatigue, fighting his own body to get things working again. Jack rubbed his back through it all– though he’d never experienced this sort of thing, Race had been through it more times than he could count, and it looked the same every time. Painful, difficult, but a surefire show of Racetrack’s incredible determination.
After a moment, he twisted awkwardly and lurched into Jack’s arms, wrapping him in a messy embrace. “Thanks, Jackie.”
“Don’t call me that, bud.” Jack responded simply, swinging his arms around Race and embracing him happily as the little shit exhaled a harsh laugh into his shoulder. He smelled like sweat and stale bed linens but he was talking and awake and moving, and that was more than enough to make Jack grin. “You want dinner? Water? You’re prob’ly fuckin’ parched.”
“Huh. Guess I am.” He said almost absently, like he was just then remembering his own humanity. Race reached across Jack and downed the glass of water in one go, before Jack offered him the sandwich and he slowly tucked in.
Moments like this made Jack remember why he’d stayed in this position for so long, leading these boys. They made him dread the day he had to leave, too. He slung an arm around Race’s shoulders and leaned back against the headboard of the bunk as the door creaked open, revealing a green-eyed boy with his cap held carefully in his hands. Jack motioned Davey in, tugging Race closer up against his side. The younger boy curled up beneath his arm, seeming to melt into the embrace.
“Hi, Racer. Feeling better?” Davey asked politely, coming to a halt beside the bed and tucking freckled hands into his pockets.
Race nodded wordlessly, without making eye contact as he bit his sandwich. He’d probably only be talking to Jack for a few hours, but that was how things always went. Jack had a remarkable knack for weaseling into people’s cracks and gently breaking them open. Davey rocked back on his feet, wearing a pleasant little smile. “That’s good. Your bunk is all paid for tonight, so no need to worry about that.”
“Great. Thanks, Dave.” Jack briefly grabbed his hand and squeezed, and like clockwork, Davey squeezed back. He trailed up to hold onto the taller boy's wrist as an idea struck him. “Hey, Davey, you think you could help Racer here start up a job search? Like, a post-newsie career?”
“Well, sure. I can think of a couple things that suit you, Race.” He smiled the type of smile that appeared when he had an idea. Jack felt confident for Racer that Davey was going to take good care of this little issue. Things would be okay, even if it was slow going. Even if Race was burrowing further into his arm, looking stony and miserable. “I’ll get back to you on that as soon as possible. Is it alright if I go tell the guys you’re alive and well up here?”
“Go inform the masses.” Jack responded easily, shooting Davey a lazy grin.
Davey returned the bright smile, crinkling his wide eyes into crescent moons. “Yessir. Oh, and Jackie?”
“Yeah, Dave?”
“Les gave me a couple of taffies for Race.” He briefly dug into his pocket and carefully deposited the candies in Jack’s palm, just a simple brush of pale skin against tan. “You don’t have to eat them if you don’t want to, but if you do, I promise they’re safe for consumption.”
Jack thanked him and he disappeared as quickly as he came. Only once Jack had set the taffies aside, did he notice Race’s shit-eating smirk. A little bit of bright mischief was returning to his eyes as he trained them on Jack, brows curling downwards into a ghost of his usual impish expression. That was both a good and bad sign. Jack felt his own eyebrows raising. “What? What are you making that face for?”
Race’s teeth flashed in a little grin as he did a remarkable impression of Dave: “Jackie…”
And that earned him a smack upside the head. Jack’s face prickled with heat as he adamantly shook his head, rolling his eyes to the soundtrack of Race snickering beneath his arm. “Shaddap, ya’ bastard.”
Then he started fucking cackling, and Jack didn’t even have the energy to be pissed off at being the butt of the joke, because Race was gonna be okay. Rough patches were tough, but he could see a bit of sunlight through the clouds. Jack held him a little bit tighter and thanked the higher powers for small breakthroughs.
BEST FRIEND'S BROTHER - CHAPTER 33
MASTERLIST
CHAPTER 33: | POGUELANDIA |
warnings: miscarriage The boat gently bobbed as it arrived at the deserted island, its quiet shores welcoming you all in your exhausted state. Everyone piled out of the boat, feet sinking into the soft sand as you all searched for a place to sit and regroup.
“Come on, boys.” John B grunted as he and the others worked to pull the boat ashore. “That’s good.”
"Good job, guys," Sarah called out from where she perched on the rocks, watching everyone settle.
You took a seat, your mind still spinning from everything that had happened. You glanced at the unfamiliar girl, remembering the tension back in the Bahamas. "You’re that girl who held a knife to my throat in the Bahamas,” you blurted, looking at Cleo.
Cleo gave a small, apologetic smile. “Yeah, sorry about that.”
Before you could dwell on it, JJ piped up, “Okay, anybody know where we’re at?”
"Deserted beach. Unknown island," John B answered vaguely.
"All right, I’ll take that as a no." JJ sighed, letting out a huff of frustration. “Plan A, huh, Pope? That went well.”
"This is the lowest we can go,” Pope ranted, frustration seeping into every word. “We literally have nothing else to lose. The cross? Gone."
"The gold?" Sarah added, her voice full of defeat. “Gone.”
"Seriously, if we had a nickel for every time we got beat up, I’d say we’re at a dollar fifty," JJ joked, trying to cut through the gloom.
"That’s more than I got on me," Kiara muttered, her voice matching the weary mood.
"That somehow doesn’t make me feel better," Sarah commented, leaning her head against you. The weight of her touch was both comforting and heavy, a reminder that you were all in this together, whether you liked it or not.
"Yeah, you’re right," John B conceded, but he wasn’t willing to let the group sink into despair just yet. “But, I mean, we’ve had some good stuff happen, right?”
Pope wasn’t buying it. “Name something.”
John B paused, then with a shrug, said, “Um… uh, the boiler room. If the boiler didn’t explode, I wouldn’t have gotten away from Rafe. I couldn’t have grabbed the Zodiac and gotten us out of there.”
“That wasn’t luck,” Cleo interrupted, smiling a little. “That thing was gonna blow the second I stopped feeding it.”
John B muttered, “Stealing my thunder, Cleo.”
“Sorry,” Cleo smirked.
John B wasn't giving up. “Pope, you’re related to Denmark Tanny. That’s crazy.”
“And I lost all his inheritance,” Pope shot back, his voice tight with frustration.
John B tried again, his determination unwavering. “You know what? Guys, this is it. This is the Pogue life.”
He jumped up, facing all of you, the wind ruffling his hair. “We are in the Caribbean, our own little slice of paradise, with my best friends, my family. I don’t know, I wouldn’t wanna do it with anyone else.”
He was really trying, and despite everything, you couldn’t help but admire that.
“Look, and while you guys were complaining about every little thing… JJ?”
“Hm?” JJ looked up.
“I was checking out those burly lefts,” John B pointed toward the waves.
JJ’s face lit up. “There’s some slabs out there,” he nodded.
"Just a few," John B grinned.
“Too bad there aren’t any boards,” Kiara said, though her voice lacked the fight she usually had.
“We could bodysurf till we make some boards,” John B suggested.
“Lame,” Kiara smiled faintly.
“Pope? Come on, man,” John B pleaded.
Pope sighed. “They do look pretty tasty.”
“Oh yes, they do,” John B agreed.
You couldn’t help but chuckle at their back-and-forth. For a moment, it felt like you could breathe again.
“There’s nobody around,” Pope finally said, loosening up a bit. “We could squat here for a bit. Kind of belongs to us now, huh?”
"You got a point," John B said, doing the Pogue handshake with Pope.
“Six-way split?” Pope joked, trying to lighten the mood.
“Poguelandia,” JJ suddenly piped up in a posh accent. “I claim thee Poguelandia.”
“Oh boy,” John B muttered, smiling despite himself.
“I like the ring of it. I’m gonna make a flag,” JJ continued enthusiastically. “It’s gonna have a chicken on it, with a coconut bra, smoking a J… in Crocs.”
Laughter bubbled from you, Sarah, and the girls. For a brief moment, it felt like everything was okay again.
"I could use a J," Kiara commented, her voice playful.
"Me too," you added, your grin widening as Sarah leaned more into you.
"Can we vote on this flag?" Sarah questioned.
"Absolutely not," JJ declared, making you laugh even harder.
John B approached Sarah with a soft smile. “Till death do us part?”
“Till death do us part,” Sarah echoed, warmth returning to her eyes as she held his gaze.
“Welcome back to the Pogue life,” John B grinned, pulling her up.
“Full Pogue,” Sarah said, a genuine smile tugging at her lips.
John B repeated her words, his voice lighter than it had been in days. “Full Pogue.”
“Going full Pogue,” JJ added, grabbing Kiara’s hand.
“To going full Pogue,” Kiara smiled, looking up at JJ.
The two couples began walking down the beach, their voices mingling with the sound of the waves. You, Pope, and Cleo followed behind them, your heart lighter for the first time in what felt like forever. In moments like this, surrounded by the Pogues’ laughter and warmth, it was easy to forget the weight of everything else—the danger, Rafe, the uncertainty of your future, and the life growing inside you. But deep down, you knew the peace wouldn’t last long.
•°•°•°•°•°•
Over the course of a few weeks, life on the island began to settle into a rhythm. The days were filled with makeshift adventures—exploring, swimming, talking about anything but the pain that lingered just beneath the surface. You and Kiara had grown closer again, your friendship finding its footing after the chaos that had kept you apart. It felt good, the two of you laughing together like you used to. Cleo, too, had become a steady presence in your life, her straightforward attitude balancing out the emotional waves you sometimes felt crashing over you. She had this way of making you feel like everything could be handled, no matter how big or small.
But beneath the surface of it all, you were struggling. You hadn’t told anyone about your pregnancy at first—not about the confusion, the fear, the questions that had plagued you since the moment you suspected it. And then the reality of it came crashing down in the most heartbreaking way possible.
The miscarriage happened quietly, almost as if your body had been holding its breath for too long, waiting for everything to catch up. You were alone when it started, sitting by the water one afternoon, letting the sun warm your skin. At first, you didn’t even recognize the small cramps that started in your abdomen, dismissing them as nothing more than the stress of everything piling up. But then the pain intensified, waves of it crashing through you until you realized something was horribly wrong.
You managed to make your way back to the group, but by the time you reached the others, you knew deep down what was happening. The look in Sarah’s eyes when she saw you doubled over in pain told you that she knew, too.
“Oh my God, Y/N,” Sarah rushed to your side, grabbing hold of you, her voice filled with worry.
“I think—” you managed to say through the pain, your hand clutching your stomach.
The words barely left your lips before the world around you blurred. Sarah, Kie, and Cleo were instantly by your side, guiding you to a shaded spot under the trees. Their presence was a comfort, even though there wasn’t anything they could do to stop what was happening.
You hated that it had to happen here, on this deserted island, far from the help and care you might’ve gotten back home. But in a way, you were grateful for the girls who stayed with you. Sarah, more than anyone, understood the weight of what you were feeling. She never left your side for a second, her arm wrapped tightly around your shoulders as you curled up on the ground, trying to ride out the pain.
“I’m so sorry,” Sarah whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “I’m so, so sorry.”
Her words broke something inside you. She was always like a sister to you, always the one to be there when things fell apart. You leaned into her, letting her hold you as you cried, the tears falling silently at first, then turning into sobs that wracked your entire body. The pain wasn’t just physical—it was deeper than that, a loss that clawed at your heart, leaving you feeling hollow.
Kiara knelt beside you, her hand on your arm, offering quiet support. Cleo stayed nearby too, her presence a silent promise that you weren’t alone in this, that even though they couldn’t understand the depths of your pain, they were here for you. The girls surrounded you like a protective barrier, shielding you from the world for just a little while longer.
The days that followed were difficult, a mix of sadness, confusion, and a strange, hollow acceptance. At first, it was hard to wrap your mind around everything that had happened. You had never planned for this pregnancy, and deep down, you knew that if you had been able to reach a doctor in time, you would have chosen to end it. But now, that choice had been taken from you, and though the weight of that loss felt suffocating at times, you began to find a strange sense of peace.
Sarah stayed close, checking on you constantly, making sure you ate, that you drank enough water. She didn’t push you to talk, she just sat with you, her presence enough to keep you grounded when you felt like the world was slipping out from under your feet.
With Sarah, Kie, and Cleo by your side, you slowly started returning to some version of normality. It wasn’t like you woke up one day and everything was fine; it was a gradual process. The pain and grief lingered, but each day it became just a little bit easier to breathe.
In the following days, you allowed yourself to let go of the guilt that had been eating away at you. The miscarriage, while painful, wasn’t something you had wanted to prevent. You had made peace with the fact that had circumstances been different, you would have chosen to end the pregnancy anyway. That realization, while difficult to accept at first, became a source of strength for you.
You spent more time with Kie and Cleo, their laughter and lightheartedness helping you forget the heaviness of the past few weeks. Kie, always full of energy and optimism, pulled you back into the things that made you feel like yourself again—exploring the island, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and talking late into the night about anything and everything. Cleo’s tough-love attitude was refreshing too, grounding you in the reality that life, no matter how difficult, always moves forward.
One evening, you sat with Kie and Cleo around a small fire you had made on the beach. The sky was a deep indigo, scattered with stars, and the sound of the ocean was a constant hum in the background.
“I’m sorry you had to go through all that,” Cleo said, her voice steady but full of empathy.
You looked at her and nodded, appreciating her directness. “Yeah, me too. But... I think I’m okay now. It was just... something I needed to accept.”
Kie leaned in, her eyes soft with understanding. “You’re stronger than you know. We’re proud of you, you know that, right?”
A small smile tugged at the corners of your lips. “Thanks. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you guys.”
“Hey, we’re family now,” Cleo said, a smirk on her face. “Pogues for life, right?”
You laughed softly, nodding. “Pogues for life.”
It wasn’t just words anymore; it was a reality. The bond you had with these girls, especially Sarah, had deepened in a way that would last forever. They had been there for you when you had needed them most, and you knew that no matter what happened next, you could face it.
That night, as you lay under the stars with Sarah beside you, you felt a sense of calm wash over you. The ache of loss was still there, but it no longer weighed you down. You had come to terms with it, accepting that some things were beyond your control, and that was okay.
The island had become a place of healing for you—a place where you could let go of the past and embrace whatever came next. And though the future was uncertain, you felt ready to face it. One day at a time, you were finding your way back to yourself.
ice cream
October 22, 2021
Mary was sitting on the bleachers at the hockey rink waiting for Will, Ryan and Gabe to come out of practice. She had practiced already and walked over to the rink that NTDP practices at and worked on homework at the rink while the boys finishes up.
Gabe came out of the locker room first as he always does and smiled seeing Mary sitting in her normal spot and walked right over to her plopping down next to her, he nudged her just slightly with his elbow.
Mary slipped her headphones off her ears and rested them on her neck.
Living with the Smith’s for almost two months Gabe has gotten really close with Mary and Will.
Gabe is really glad that at least one of the Smith siblings is quieter because Will can yap for so long and Mary could too but she mostly likes being quiet.
Gabe was extremely impressed the first time he saw Mary play hockey, she is smaller than everyone but she’s so quick and the way she skates is so elegantly that she just glides around everyone so easily. He really hoped she played with the NTDP next year because he would love to play on the ice with her.
“You okay?” Gabe asked gently noticed her quieter than usually.
“Yeah just a long practice.” Mary mumbled her body tired from the practice and the amount of times she got hit by her teammates. Her teammates are only getting meaner to her.
Gabe nodded softly and knew she was feeling down so he leaned closer, “You know Leon and Smitty never shut about you.” Gabe playfully whispered making Mary glance over at him.
“They do?” Mary whispered back, it’s been weird lately they suddenly she doesn’t know all of Will and Ryan’s jokes or stuff that happened anymore because they are not on the same team. She guessed it’s something she needs to get used to.
“Half of the time they talk about something it’s about you.” Gabe softly told her, he’s realized Mary is probably having a harder time playing without Will and Ryan because she is alone.
Mary smiled softly to herself, “Thanks G.” Mwah mumbled knowing what Gabe is doing
Ryan and Will walked over seeing Mary and Gabe talking to each other, “Ready to go?” Will asked softly setting a hand on his little sister’s back.
Ryan narrowed his eyes slightly looking between Gabe and Mary and noticed Gabe was trying to cheer Mary up, Ryan frowned thinking how Mary has been even quieter lately and her smiles smaller and got an idea to make her feel better.
Ryan grinned brightly at Mary’s playful glare as he picked up her backpack for her and just shrugged as she tried to take it back, she should know by now Ryan is always going to steal her bag and hold it.
The four walked out to Ryan’s car and Will and Gabe knew to get in the backseat because Ryan won’t let them sit in the front if Mary is there.
Ryan drove them to the Smith’s house and he set a gentle hand on Mary’s arm to stop her from getting out the car, “I’m stealing Ellie for a little bit.” Ryan grinned as he saw the confused looks from Will and Gabe when Mary didn’t get out of the car.
“Bring her back safe and sound.” Will playfully glared at Ryan making Ryan smirk and salute Will.
Ryan waited till Will and Gabe got inside till he started driving again.
“Where are we going?” Mary asked Ryan softly, she didn’t mind staying with Ryan as she hasn’t gotten to spend time with just Ryan in a while.
“It’s a surprise.” Ryan just grinned mischievously making her fondly roll her eyes but accepted his answer.
Ryan turned into a parking lot and Mary saw a small little ice cream shop on the lake front.
“Ice cream?” Mary asked softly realizing exactly why Ryan brought her here.
“We haven’t found a new ice cream spot yet.” Ryan grinned softly at her seeing her perking up at the thought of ice cream.
Getting ice cream has always been a Ryan and Mary thing, one of the few things Will never has joined. They use to go a lot back in Boston to the same place but haven’t gotten ice cream since they both moved to Michigan.
Ryan and Mary walked up to the little ice cream shack and Ryan opened the door for Mary to walk in first.
Ryan smiled to himself seeing Mary look even more excited when she saw her favorite flavor ice cream, he may of checked the menu of ice cream shops around them to make sure the one they went to had her favorite.
Mary ordered her two scoops of salted caramel ice cream and Ryan ordered three scoops of chocolate before he playfully shooed Mary away to go find a seat as he paid.
Mary shook her head knowing she wouldn’t be able to pay with Ryan and went outside finding a seat and sat down slipping her headphones off her neck and onto her ears.
Ryan came out of a few minutes later holding their ice cream and wasn’t surprised to find her outside and he came over to her and set the ice cream on the table before gently tugging one of Mary’s waves to get her attention and she slipped her headphones down.
“Thank you.” Mary said before humming happily as she took a bit of her ice cream.
Ryan nodded and smiled back.
He furrowed his brows seeing a car pulling up blaring music and knew it could aggravate Mary’s, “Want to share?” Ryan asked her holding up his AirPods.
Apple had recently come out with a feature to share music on one phone to two headphones, something that Mary really really loves.
Ryan loves it to because he’s get to listen with Mary and she’s more comfortable.
Mary smiled happily quickly nodded opening up her phone and connecting Ryan’s AirPods and turned her music back slipping her headphones back on.
This was perfect for Mary, she was eating one of her favorite things and got to block out the world but also listen to music with her Ryan and just enjoy time together.
Ryan successfully cheered Mary up and he glanced at her content face and hoped on day they could talk about the kiss they had, the kiss he never stops thinking about and hoped one day he could kiss her again.
Do You Ever Laugh?
Fandom: The Bad Batch
Word Count: 3,492
Summary: Echo can't get Crosshair to laugh at his jokes. Turns out you don’t need to be funny as long as someone’s ticklish.
Ao3 link: Do You Ever Laugh?
This is a tickle fic
Thank you @iamawolfstarsimp for requesting this ages ago! Sorry it took so long but I’m excited to finally have it done ☺️
Echo was convinced no one had ever made Crosshair laugh before. He certainly hadn’t. That was really starting to irritate him. It hadn’t been too long, just over a week with clone force 99, and things were going a lot better than he anticipated. Integrating into a new group was always going to have its challenges but clone force 99 was far easier to fit in with than he expected. Tech constantly tugged him along for projects he wanted Echo’s help with. Wrecker wanted his company on trips to get supplies. Even Hunter had started asking for his opinion on their plans, giving him freedom to suggest changes where he saw fit.
There was only one glaring problem.
Crosshair. He hadn’t been cruel, nor had he pushed Echo away. They were entirely amicable if not for some petty squabbles every now and again but that was to be expected. The beginning stages were coming together well enough but Echo still hadn’t gotten a good read on him. It wasn’t exactly easy to work with someone who never seemed to crack a smile, never even budged as far as Echo had been concerned. Crosshair was the king of thoughtful looks, head tilted to the side, eyes narrowing as he thought. There wasn’t much Echo could do to make Crosshair amused. Oh, but he tried. He certainly tried. Telling stories, making jokes, attempting to connect with him on a very baseline level. All of it had been met with a careful distance. Not malicious, just guarded. That’s exactly what was happening now as Echo tried to make nice with their sniper. Making nice meant several jokes that he thought were perfectly timed, worked well enough with what seemed to be clone force 99’s particular brand of humor, that would’ve landed with any of the rest of them. However, Crosshair hadn’t cracked a single smile. Hell, he’d barely raised his eyebrow when Echo said ‘I’ll give you a hand’ while holding out his scomp to take an extra supply bag from Crosshair.
Whatever.
Echo knew his puns were funny whether the sniper wanted to admit or not. The rest of the 99 were minding their own nearby, huffing a laugh every so often, or chiming in as they talked. Crosshair was fine sharing stories, humming as he listened, but nothing - absolutely nothing - was getting him to smile.
Was it so bad to want that?! Echo had always gotten at least begrudging amusement at his puns. Interest in his stories that ended with amused smiles. Connections that felt easy and fluid. Crosshair was tough to get to know but mainly because he kept himself under a lock and key, not yet ready to let Echo in. One a level he understood that but the part of him that wanted to get along with his new squad just kept poking at him.
Yet another joke hadn’t landed - this time one at his own expense seeing as Crosshair was always tempted to poke fun at him - and now Crosshair had moved on from feigning disinterest to giving Echo a very disappointed look, shaking his head like he’d never heard something so unfunny a day in his life. Echo glared back in response.
“Do you ever laugh?” Echo asked, trying not to sound like he was complaining. His voice, however, pitched up into something closer to a whine. Maybe pleading would get his point across.
“I don’t laugh.” The deadpan reply was coupled with an eerily detached expression that Echo was just grumpily sick of seeing. With a groan Echo ignored him, huffing and he dropped his chin in his palm. Ignoring him further when Crosshair’s eyebrow twitched smugly. At this point he knew this was just to irritate him. It was Crosshair’s brand. Find the thing you wanted then refuse to give it to you, brag about it when you finally gave in and bickered with him over it.
“That is inaccurate.” Tech’s voice drew Echo’s eyes upward. Tech was standing, datapad in hand, peering over it at Crosshair. Echo watched with interest as the sniper shrugged, still leaning against the wall as if he didn’t have a care in the world.
“Never laughed a day in my life.” Crosshair insisted. You have! You have, you bastard!
“He’s being ridiculous.” Hunter rolled his eyes as he joined the conversation, plopping down next to Echo on the bench. With a huff Echo slumped against Hunter’s shoulder, playing up his disappointment at not being funny enough for their dear old sniper. Hunter accepted his weight, adjusting so he could hold Echo up comfortably.
“Everyone laughs.” Echo reasoned, if not a bit grumbly. Hunter grinned at him in response, a sympathetic pat to his shoulder in solidarity. Crosshair was going to torture him on purpose and he was powerless to stop it.
“Not me.” Crosshair remained unphased, moving only to lean more casually against the wall, slumping now in a way that was done only to infuriate Echo further. Smug son of a bitch always flaunting that aloofness.
“Oh, yes he does!” Wrecker accused, glaring far more intently at his lankier brother. Said lankier brother seemed to actually react to that, body stiffening and eyes widening.
“No , I don’t.” Crosshair bit out. The two of them stared at each other, both of them in a standoff that Echo didn’t quite understand. He raised an eyebrow when Crosshair started to sweat, slowly pushing off of the wall to stand straight as if he’d have to run for his life at any minute. One look at the other two 99s proved he was the only one out of the loop.
“We’ll show you how about that?” Wrecker stood, cracking his knuckles, and that was interesting. Echo looked between them like he was about to watch a fight, and maybe he was. Crosshair was already trying to scoot away, hands held out in front of him to display some kind of call for mercy. Whatever was about to happen had all of the room’s interest and Crosshair seemed mighty reluctant to let it happen without a fight. Wrecker strode forward, the other man shrinking away with a shake of his head, a silent call to stop.
Wrecker didn’t accept that plea.
“Wait. Wait, no!” Crosshair pleaded as Wrecker grabbed his wrists and yanked.
Crosshair was knocked off of his feet in seconds, so fast Echo barely saw how Wrecker got him in the hold, squirming as he was trapped in a bear hug so tight Echo felt constricted. Wriggling, Crosshair’s feet kicked out as Wrecker manhandled him into position - one arm holding him snuggly while the other could irritate at will. At least, irritating is what Echo has expected Wrecker to do.
What he didn’t expect was the other hand to go straight to Crosshair’s side and squeeze - one, two, three times - while choked off noises were forced out of his throat. With another squeeze Wrecker latched on, somewhere near the bottom rib, and wiggled his fingers in as if he’d done this a million times. Well, he probably had, considering that move had those garbled noises turning into panicked laughter.
A smile finally - begrudgingly - split Crosshair’s face in half and Echo, delighted, couldn’t help but match that expression. After days of trying, days of hoping he could get that stubborn man to laugh just once he was getting everything he wanted in minutes with one very simple thing.
“See, told ya.” Wrecker called, brightness in his voice. His fingers moved to spidering up Crosshair’s ribs and that got him to jolt away, his hand desperately grasping at Wrecker’s wrist and pulling.
“Are you tickling him? Is Crosshair ticklish?!” Echo asked, trying not to sound so excited. He knew the answer, obviously, but he needed to get his disbelief out in the open. There was the man that plagued him on purpose, squirming and kicking and laughing while his limbs swung wildly in the air. Tickled! He was being tickled! Echo couldn't believe it.
He’d seen the 99 tease each other, poke at each other to irritate, but they hadn’t done this yet. This was entertaining for sure. All that bubbly playfulness started to grow in Echo’s chest. A familiar tingly feeling that he always got when a fight like this broke out among his old squads.
He hadn’t even realized he missed it until now.
“We often do and yes, he is. That seems obvious.” Tech interjected, much to Crosshair’s chagrin. He choked out a disgruntled ‘Tech!’ but couldn’t get much else out otherwise, falling back into nervous titters as Wrecker continued to dig into his side. Tech’s datapad was sat down out of the way now and he sidled up to the two of them as if studying a particularly wiggly specimen. Tech reached a hand out that Crosshair immediately tried to slap but Tech, good ol’ Tech, was faster. He gripped Crosshair’s wrist then dove his own fingers directly under Crosshair’s arm, fingers moving in a way that made Crosshair screech. Echo felt himself pull his own elbows to his sides, subconsciously hiding in Hunter’s shadow. Someone remind him never to get on Tech’s bad side.
“This is torture!” Crosshair complained before falling into breathy laughter once again. It almost looked like he was getting electrocuted, or a fish out of water, flopping about in the hold as if it would change anything. Wrecker’s hold was firm, unbreakable, and he was stuck whether he wanted to be or not.
“We were taught how to withstand torture you will be fine.” Tech added and Echo laughed in shock at Tech’s casual humor. Whether he meant to or not he always seemed to pinpoint the exact right thing to say.
“Imagine that. Big, tough, sulky Crossie being so sensitive.” Echo couldn’t help it. Teasing was natural, grinning when a glare - as heated as he could manage while laughing like a maniac - was aimed in his direction.
“Don’t call me that!” Crosshair bit out. His body flung to the side when Tech changed tactics. His hands found a spot right above Crosshair’s knee, squeezing quick little bursts into the area without breaking his careful concentration.
“What? You don’t like Crossie?” Hunter was teasing now, too, getting up from the bench to join the little group that seemed intent on making Crosshair a mushy little pile of goo. Without preamble Hunter started poking over his stomach which made his knees yank upwards to try and cover it. Crosshair’s head shook back and forth, a bubbling laughter accompanying each and every poke.
He nearly knocked Wrecker in the nose with his head when Hunter ran gentle fingers over the center of his stomach, dancing over the fabric of his shirt playfully.
Oh Echo could practically feel those tingles. Dancing across skin that was so vulnerable like that, held in the air without a way down. Echo could remember getting ganged up on like that. The dominos often played like this, finding a target and all attacking at once. Hell, even Rex and Cody had a tendency to take him down a notch if he was getting under their skin. Some very giggly wrestling matches were all it took to remind him of who really had the upper hand when sparring with his COs.
A particularly loud cackle got Echo’s mind to focus again, tuning back in to watch as Hunter kneaded at the spot on Crosshair’s lower belly. That must tickle like hell with the way he started thrashing.
“I can’t stop smiling.” Echo commented only to cover his mouth with his hand a second later to hide it. It was too easy to throw out remarks that made Crosshair’s ears burn more, embarrassment flaring under his skin. This was something Echo could get on board with.
“Just wait until we get to his neck.” Hunter’s casual threat hit right where he wanted it to as Crosshair’s eyes went nice and wide.
“Don’t you dare-” The scream that cut him off nearly knocked Echo off of the bench.
“Too late.” Wrecker’s fingers were there in an instant, wiggling gently into the soft skin under Crosshair’s ear. Now the man was red faced, giggling mad, squirming at every single touch no matter how gentle. Wrecker’s big grin matched the look on Echo’s face for sure, his eyes meeting Echo’s. “Don’t worry. He’s just being weird about laughing because you’re new.”
Discomfort flashed through Echo’s body in an instant. If that were true, that Crosshair only acted aloof because he didn’t know Echo well, then maybe this wasn’t as fun as he thought it was. It wasn’t fun if they were causing some kind of distress, although he hadn’t picked up on any just yet, that didn’t mean it wasn’t there. Echo rubbed the back of his neck.
“He doesn’t have to endure this in front of me if he’s uncomfortable.” Echo’s voice came out quiet but he was clearly heard, Tech peering over his shoulder but stopping his fingers entirely. Hunter was next, sensing the change in tone and pausing. Even Wrecker stopped teasing at the skin on his neck. While it did seem reluctant they let Crosshair go, allowing him to get his feet back on the ground. He didn’t last long, knees giving out so he could drop onto the ground by their feet, breathing harsh puffs of air into his lungs.
Echo watched with worry, unsure if this was typical or not, as Hunter crouched down. Did they go overboard? He just wasn’t sure yet. Briefly, he thought about how it would feel if someone pushed him too far. Not listening when he clearly wanted it to end. That wasn’t what he wanted at all.
Hunter flattened his hand over Crosshair’s now messy hair, taming some of the strands that stuck up every which way. “What d’ya think, Cross? Newbie gave you an out.” Hunter asked, patiently waiting while Crosshair got his breathing under control. Would Crosshair just answer?
It took a few moments, his face turning back to a semi normal color the more time he spent free of their tickling fingers. Crosshair swallowed, cleared his throat, then finally looked up. An almost calm look was on his face now, the lines that showed his glare softening into something that made him appear younger than he was.
“If you think I’m admitting defeat you don’t know me at all.” Crosshair croaked out, much to Echo’s immediate amusement, biting the inside of his lips to keep a grin from immediately splitting his face. Damn, he could take a beating. Echo wasn’t sure he’d last that long if it were him.
“You asked for it.” Wrecker laughed, kneeling down just as Hunter’s hands found Crosshair’s rib cage, wiggling the tips of his fingers between them. All that fight was renewed now, squirming and laughing with all his might now that he could really move. It was funny to see them go back to attacking him now that he’d given a green light, not holding back.
Echo slipped from the bench to sit in front of them, perfect view of the gleeful expression on Crosshair’s face. All those hands attacked him without mercy, scribbling into crevices, poking into soft spots, squeezing along his thigh so his legs kicked out against the floor. Echo was mapping a perfect plan of attack for the next time they got this chance, committing it to memory so he could threaten and start a fight later on.
“You should try.” Tech said, eyes watching the way Echo’s fingers twitched. He had to admit that he was tempted to join but would it cross a line? They hadn’t been exactly chummy lately and Echo couldn’t afford to piss the grumpiest 99 off. “He will not be angry, if that’s why you are holding back.” Dammit, Tech, stop reading his damn thoughts! Echo sighed through his nose. Well, if Tech thought it was okay.
Scooting closer he tried to find an in, somewhere he already knew worked, somewhere not that intense. Crosshair was already wheezing, much more and he may just pass out. That wouldn’t be very fun. Hunter, actually, made the decision for him.
“Right here. We’ll let you do the honors.” He pointed to the crook of Crosshair’s neck, fingers barely touching skin but making him shiver regardless. Echo reached out, trying to mimic the way they had done it earlier. Crosshair flinched away from the finger tracing his skin, and Echo smiled to himself, pleased to be able to join in and get an immediate reaction.
“Real gentle.” Wrecker suggested, tugging on his own ear like it was a hint, a wink thrown in Echo’s direction. Echo hummed, fingers tracing upwards to the shell of Crosshair’s ear, hoping it was as much of a hint as he thought it was. It got an instantaneous squeak, scrunching up as he dissolved into gentle tittering. The rest of them slowly started to pull away, hands leaving with a last squeeze, one last scribble, one last poke, until it was just Echo. His gentle traces were well received - Echo noticed - still giggling but much softer now, arms wrapped around himself. He rolled around on the ground, scrunching every so often, but he always uncurled himself to allow more of those traces. Scratching his nails got a particularly loud laugh, curling so his back was to Echo. A stroke of genius made Echo scribble his fingers over the back of his neck, laughing when Crosshair immediately turned back over, head shaking to rid himself of the sensation.
He could imagine this would be a good way to coax laughter out of Crosshair in the future. Have him lay his head in Echo’s lap and trace gently over his neck and ears, hear him laugh in a way they rarely ever got to, leave him to recover then surprise him with a sneak attack when he was settling down again. Part of him knew Crosshair wouldn’t tug away but he left that to tease about on a later date.
While letting Crosshair go was necessary, it was with regret. Echo pulled away, finally removing all those sensations from the man now panting to get his lungs working properly again. Hunter sat cross-legged next to him, rubbing firm circles on his back as a soothing tactic. Echo made note of that too. Fine with being touched after if the touch didn’t tickle. Good to know.
“You’re all bastards and I will get revenge.” Crosshair croaked, eyes closed.
“I’m sure you will.” Hunter agreed, even if he rolled his eyes. It took a few minutes for Crosshair to recover, surrounded in his little cocoon of mean, cruel brothers who had clearly tickled him to death.
Tragic, mean, so horrible.
Damn, he’d missed this. These playful fights were a simple joy he hadn’t quite realized were something he had been craving. The simple connection, careful affection, gentle ways of irritating each other. It brought something brighter to Echo’s chest.
Eventually Crosshair peeked out at them, studying Echo’s face.
“What’re you staring at?” Crosshair complained, although he didn’t move from the hand petting him. He didn’t even sound cross for the most part, just curious. All that laughing had left him sounding less broody, even if it was still under all of that calm.
Echo shrugged, still fighting that smile that wouldn’t remove itself from his face. “Just plotting for the next time you piss me off.”
Light flickered in Crosshair’s eyes, something dangerously playful. “Oh, I’ll be plotting, too.” Now Crosshair was smiling for completely different reasons, evil flashing through his gaze. “You ticklish, Echo?” Just as Crosshair had earlier, Echo’s body tensed, flashing hot in a way that he knew would bring a blush to his cheeks. How were you even meant to answer that question? No answer was good. Yes only invited people to try it but No just meant they’d attempt to anyway. Regardless it was a question you were meant to be stuck between, no way to navigate it casually. Instead of answering Echo pressed his lips together, a move that still had Crosshair grinning menacingly at him.
When Crosshair pushed up off of the floor to sit up, Hunter’s hand falling away, Echo couldn’t help but flinch backwards, away from the possibility that he could be next. He heard Wrecker chuckle, an interested hum from Tech, and couldn’t shake Hunter’s knowing grin.
“I’ll get you next time.” There was a threat so clearly on Crosshair’s tongue but Echo ignored it, huffing instead as he wrapped his arms around his middle. Crosshair made note, clicking his tongue, but left him be.
He may have to be on the lookout for sneaky and underhanded payback but Echo couldn’t find it in himself to care. No, he had to plot his own rascally attacks. Maybe this was how they finally broke through that leftover wall. Playfully tearing down any space between them brick by ticklish brick.
Prompt 218
“Moom, there’s yellow-eyed creeps fighting ninjas outside the window again!”
Danny sighed, taking a deep breath- in for ten, out for eight- as he set the pot he was cleaning back in the sink. Dan- currently six- came running in from the living room of the apartment, where he was watching TV. Or he should have been if not for the bullshit outside.
He sighed again, picking up baby Ellie- currently closer to two- out of her highchair (even if she could just float out) and let his oldest drag him to the window. Sure enough, another fight was happening, with no vigilante in sight stopping it. Look, he knew most people didn’t live here, but it was still rude.
“Jordan, remember how I told you how violence isn’t always the answer?” Danny asked sweetly, Dan’s expression shifting to a wicked grin as he opened the window. “Feel free to practice tossing some fireballs while I clean up your sister, yeah?”
Ah, the sweet sound of surprised cursing and startled ecto-signatures. Maybe they’d be polite enough to take their spar elsewhere.
tough pill i have to swallow is realizing that “getting better” doesn’t mean “getting to do more things,” getting better for me means taking better initiative in protecting myself. and THAT means making sure i do LESS things
#sounds kinda obvious but i only just realized it lmao#feels like i have to grieve a lot of my goals now but no one said the healing process would be easy#danbles#and for anyone else that has a disability that prevents them from doing smth#or trauma that makes certain triggers limit their opportunities#or neurotypes that make it harder for them to love smth like they used to#or whatever else#i don’t want to make it sound like you have to give up on the things that make you happy#I’M certainly not going to#but a huge value of mine has always been experiencing everything life had to offer#and everytime that backfires (whether it’s burnout; triggering a flashback; triggering an episode; putting strain on my body; etc)#i always just thought to myself ‘it was bad timing’ or ‘i haven’t gotten better yet’ bc the endgoal was to always get to that point where#i could experience it. i want to try new things all the time. i want to feel normal and be included in everything#but if smth keeps Making Me Feel Bad then maybe there isn’t a version of myself that can take it on#it’s not resilience to put yourself in harm’s way#idk how well i’ll be able to put this into practice tbh. i rly rly like exploring different experiences#even negative ones are valuable to me#but the least i can do for myself is recognize that i might not always be the problem#maybe i’ve already hit the limit on all the self-work i can do. maybe it’s the environment or situation itself that’s the problem#fuuck guys i feel like i’m going thru a stage of grief here why is this shit so hard 💀
