The most divisive protagonists are those who are super-duper awesome. They’re better than everyone else at every skill imaginable. They smugly defeat every opponent without getting a hair out of place. New characters are introduced just to watch the protagonist in awe and sing their praises.
At Mythcreants, we call these protagonists candied characters. “Candy” refers to the story elements that are designed to glorify them. In the right context, audiences love this kind of empowerment. The problem is that, like many temptations, it’s easy to overindulge. Too much candy alienates audience members who aren’t immediately inclined to like a character.

You radiate the consummate mix of celebrity and public service required to achieve American glory. You are at the height of your likability. It is minute by minute, of course, but nobody yet wants to tear you down. The denouement will come, yes, but then you can abscond to Greece, Lithuania. You can kill yourself.

You can find plenty of examples of doctors who are brilliant at medicine but have a lousy "bedside manner" — it's a well-worn character archetype in fiction — but you never really see the reverse (and for good reason). When was the last time you heard something like 'oh, he's a terrible surgeon — kills more of his patients than he saves — but damned if he doesn't have a great bedside manner; the hospital keeps him around because he's just so darn likable'?

Charlie Sykes is quoted as saying: “People just don’t like the guy. And I think that he calculated that he could go for that MAGA base by being the biggest jerk in the race. And, you know, frankly, you can’t do that. You can’t beat the reigning lizard king and Ron DeSantis is finding that out the hard way.”

Both of them were "likeable" first and foremost - the type of guy you could have a beer with at a pub, and who wasn't capable of organising a fart after a baked bean dinner.
I could see that with Bush, but I can't imagine how or why anyone would think Trump is likable.
Also, it's highly ironic that both W. and Trump are teetotalers, so they wouldn't have that beer with you at the bar. (Bush is a recovered alcoholic, and Trump had his brother drink himself to death. Other substance abuse, especially by Trump, is another matter...)
i don't care that joe biden is old and tbh, i don't actually think the media cares either. they just want trump back because him sucking makes for easier clickbait

Psychological Facts to Help You Become More Likable
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be naturally likable? It turns out that there are certain psychological facts that can help you become a more likable person. Whether you want to improve your personal relationships, excel in your career, or simply make new friends, these facts can be incredibly helpful. 1. Smile Did you know that smiling can actually make you more likable? When you smile, it not only makes you appear more approachable, but it also releases endorphins in your brain, which creates a positive feeling. So, make it a habit to smile more often, and you'll notice a difference in how people respond to you. 2. Active Listening Being a good listener is another key to being likable. People appreciate when someone truly listens to them and shows genuine interest in what they have to say. Practice active listening by maintaining eye contact, nodding, and asking follow-up questions. This will not only make the other person feel valued, but it will also help you build stronger connections. 3. Use Names Using someone's name can have a powerful impact. It shows that you are paying attention to them and makes the conversation more personal. When you meet someone new, make an effort to remember their name and use it in your conversation. It will make them feel more comfortable and create a sense of familiarity. 4. Find Common Ground People are naturally drawn to those who share common interests or experiences. Take the time to find common ground with others, whether it's a hobby, a favorite TV show, or a shared experience. This will create a bond and make it easier for you to connect with them on a deeper level. 5. Show Empathy Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. When you show empathy, it allows people to feel understood and supported. Practice putting yourself in someone else's shoes and try to understand their perspective. This will not only make you more likable, but it will also help you build stronger and more meaningful relationships. 6. Be Authentic One of the most important psychological facts about likability is the importance of being authentic. People can sense when someone is being fake or insincere, and it can be a major turn-off. Instead, be true to yourself and let your genuine personality shine through. This will attract people who appreciate and resonate with the real you. 7. Positive Attitude A positive attitude is contagious and can make you more likable. When you approach life with optimism and see the good in every situation, it not only improves your own well-being but also attracts others to you. So, focus on cultivating a positive mindset and watch as your likability grows. 8. Show Appreciation Everyone likes to feel appreciated and valued. Take the time to express your gratitude to others for their kindness, help, or support. Whether it's a simple thank you or a heartfelt note, showing appreciation will make you more likable and strengthen your relationships. 9. Be Mindful of Body Language Non-verbal cues play a significant role in how others perceive us. Pay attention to your body language and make sure it aligns with your intentions. Stand or sit up straight, maintain eye contact, and use open gestures. This will make you appear more confident, approachable, and ultimately, more likable. 10. Practice Positivity Last but not least, practice positivity in your interactions with others. Avoid gossiping, complaining, or being overly critical. Instead, focus on uplifting and encouraging others. This will not only make you more likable, but it will also create a positive and supportive environment. By incorporating these psychological facts into your daily life, you can become a more likable person. Remember, likability is not about changing who you are, but rather, enhancing your natural qualities and building stronger connections with those around you. Read the full article

Sometimes you immediately fall in love with a character and want them to succeed. Other times, you want nothing more than to fire that character into a passing sun. It’s the second category we’re talking about today. What is it that makes characters unlikable, and how do you fix it? Assuming you want to fix it, of course. If not, then just do the opposite of everything we talk about in today’s episode.

I wanted to be an insanely likeable person? These four powerful ways helped me charm my way in!
If you’ve heard this; “You can’t please all of the people all of the time” then you’d know that there will always be people in life who don’t like you. This hurts, but on the flip side it feels wonderful when someone does like you. It’s exciting and perks up your confidence. Besides appreciation is one powerful way to build up strong relations and success at work. Image source:…

Most annoying NMJ or JC take is when someone that dislikes them is like "oh you're a fan of him? *scoff* Well obviously you've only seen cql, where he was super watered down. In the novel he's a dislikable asshole and that's the objectively superior canon I'm working from instead of your woobified fanfic." Meanwhile your main canon is novel canon and you genuinely find novel Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue complex sympathetic characters.
