Having some ideas for a "10 years later" valzhang kid fic (featuring trans leo & other fun hcs)
Where a couple years after Leo and Calypso split (early 20s at this point) Athena goes and works with leo in his shop for a few months before giving him a daughter, because she believes that he is one of the smartest minds of his generation (I just KNOW Athena heard all of Leo's plans through out Hoo when he would talk to himself around the Athena Parthenos, and was impressed with his (honestly incredibly smart) strategy to succeed at doing 2 things no human nor god had ever done, then succeeded with both plans all while remaking a metal dragon all in secret, plus Annabeth loves her friend alot so that's a bonus)
(This will be long so more after the cut)
So now, at like 23, Leo is the father of a beautiful baby girl named Sophina Esperanza Piper Valdez, and he loves it, he really does! Although he was terrified to ever be a parent, and this certainly wasnt how he planned to ever have kids, he loves his daughter more than anything and is determined to not have her experience anything he had too, and because shes a greek demigod he knows she will taken care of by the camp.
PLUS the seven ADORE Sophina!!
Piper loves her god daughter, and she and leo love to tell her all about Jason knowing he would have loved her so much too! Although it's weird in the beginning, Annabeth really loves and cares for her little sister, but much prefers to be seen as her aunt, (percy is definitely the cool uncle and loves to babysit Sophina along with looking after his own kids)! Hazel couldnt have been more excited to have a neice, just like leo she cant help but see so much of sammy Sophina!
And Frank? He adores Sophina too, he loves seeing Leo excel at being a dad, and he finds it hilarious at how devious this little girl is, how the combo of incredible building/ strategic mind from her godly heritage plus that insane intelligents from her father alone made the now 3 year old an adorable MENACE!!
No normal kiddie pen could ever keep this child contained! And frank would know, he offered to babysit more often than not, whenever he wasnt doing his praetor duties, he was looking after Sophina. And when he wasnt doing that he was often having her and leo over for dinner or lunch.
So much had changed since they where 15/16, living on a flying boat trying to save the world, it had been an entire decade even. And sure they were only mid 20s but that's practically middle age with a demigods track record. Leo and Frank went from hating eachothers guts to having a weird bond, formed of complete and utter trust in the other, while never quite getting rid of their petty bickering, tho this time on far more friendlier jokeing terms, (loving bullying piper called it) plus it helped they admired eachother and their abilities greatly. And now as they were both freshly single, welp dam it sometimes feelings just sorta surprise ya!
Frank and Hazel split the year before Sophina was created, both realising they had different ideas for their futures, and in the aftermath they became even closer friends, so when Frank started realising just how long he had been harbouring feelings for leo, well Hazel was the first one to say she both knew it, and to become his ultimate wing woman.
Leo, who has been single since 19, and hasnt thought about dating again properly since after having his daughter, suddenly having years old feelings from the argo2 reserface after frank starts helping him out more with his little girl, feeling like a percy out of water when he thinks about wanting to get back into dating again, especially when dating involves one of his best friends...
Buttttttt :) when you have the favour of both the godess of love and the godess of marriage and family on your side (abit reluctantly on your end) things end up going great!! Everyone was surprised it hadnt happened sooner and well, it's been going smooth for the last few months at least! Plus Sophina absoulutly loves having Frank around more!!
That is until 6 months later, 3 months before Sophinas 4th birthday, Frank is called away for a quest with his legion, which isnt uncommon, but it's the first one since the two became official, so Leo wont lie if hes a little bit more stressed than usual.
It doesnt help no one has heard from Frank and his quest group in over a week... nor the fact not either of the camps or even the hunters could find them... and definitely no the fact that Leo's cycle is late and has been throwing up for the last few days...
So when Annabeth comes over to help with a project while Percy takes care of Sophina for the day, the first thing she does is tell him to take a pregnancy test or have them call Will, even tho Leo is adamant its probably just a stomach bug.
Of course, 3 positive tests, 2 breakdowns in the arms of Annie, Piper and Hazel, and 1 check up from Will, Leo discovers hes around 6 weeks pregnant and the other father could only be Frank and he is still MIA!!!
Not only that, but Leo, after the war, becoming a double amputee, still grieving Jason with so much regret, and a now no longer single father of an amazing little girl, he was now facing becomg a father AGAIN only this time hes going to actually carry his own child, unlike the first time. Leo was trans, he always knew that if he ever in the place to have a child, he would have to carry them, and at the time he mostly only dated women anyway! But when Athena came along and gave him Sophina, well that was the perfect out to all that. Until now...
Leo doesn't know what to do, he cant make any decisions about the baby without Frank, and by now it's going on 2 weeks without any word. Hazel has been staying with him and Sophina when she hasnt been out doing search missions with Arion, the two have been sharing the stress.
Its week 2 and a half, 4 weeks from when the original quest started, when the questing group finally returns, found by Rayna and Hazel, mostly badly injured and being carried by Frank who had transformed himself into (all be it a very hurt) Elphant.
According to what they said the group had somehow fallen into some of the uncollapsed tunnels of the labyrinth which messed with people being able to find them.
But that doesnt matter, Frank is back and Leo is a flood of emotions because he just spent the last 3 weeks worrying if the guy he was inlove with was dead or dying, and the last week and a half thinking he was going to be a single dad AGAIN
But Frank, big dumb lovable Frank, is here, hes alive, and as he returns from the elephant to normal with the kindest most apologetic smile as he walks over to Leo before being directed to the med tent. He holds Leo close as he says hes sorry for disappearing over and over again.
So of course Leo, in all his blazing adhd glory, not exactly chooses, more word vomits the thing that he had been desperate to tell Frank since he first found out.
So in sitcom style dramatics the moment frank hears the words "I'm pregnant" from Leo's mouth he immediately passes out.
Que some shenanigans, but it ends with Frank being so excited, he already loved Leo, (not that either had said it out loud yet), he would be thrilled to have Sophina as his step daughter, and to to be an actual dad himself, for them to have a child and give Sophina a little sibling?? For them to be a weird chaotic family (oh gods they're going to be a family, they're going to need to find a bigger place to live all together, would Leo even want to move to New Rome? Wait would Leo want to even move in with HIM?? Panic for another time)
It becomes a hectic next 9 months, the Valdez - Zhang family has a new family home at the edge of New Rome, Sophina has never been more excited finding out she was going to be a big sister (being told the week before her 4th bday) (she had a party thrown by the Athena & Haphaestus kids at CHB) and happily helps her dads prepare. The 7 are thrilled for the new addition to their found family (my hc this would be the 4th kid from the group)
And finally they eventually wecome Ellie Jace Valdez - Zhang, Greek/Roman legacy of Haphaestus, Mars & Poseidon, future fighter extraordinar who eventually inherits the Zhang shapshifting, also inherited her fathers firewood

PJO Future AU head-cannon stuff (some ARE taken from other peoples head-cannons bc they’re awesome):
- Will Solace would not be a medic/be in the medical field— I feel like just because he’s good at it doesn’t mean he likes it. Maybe he’d be a teacher because of his leadership skills.
- I feel like from working in the infirmary and having people close to him pass, Nico would choose a medical field job. I feel like he’d be an RN (registered nurse) or doctor and work at like an urgent care (er is too crazy for him— or maybe it wouldn’t and he’d like the chaos)
- I also feel like there’d be a not so great injury and Nico would be like “Oh let me see” then see it and be like “oh that’s really cool” not much would phase him— or it would but he’d find it fascinating
- I feel like the fact that they didn’t have these new kinds of tech when Nico was growing up also adds to his fascination. Like what do you mean x-Ray machines exist?
- I feel like Percy would do well with water jobs— like maybe he’d be a marine biologist and he’d find it fun to just communicate with the ocean life.
- Frank and Hazel would take a lot of dual credit classes or graduate early from highschool so they could focus on the camp— like they’d take online stuff so they could spend more time focusing on camp. (hope that makes sense) I’m not sure what I think their careers would be.
- Leo would own his own mechanic shop after going to trade school (saw on tiktok)
- Jason (revived) would be a professor of history— probably mythology.
- As a Valgrace shipper (dont judge pls) I think that they’d get together shortly after Jason is revived (not too short— six months after?) because they’ve been through a lot already and don’t want to risk anything again.
Now, onto kids because I don’t see these often but I find it fun to imagine:
- Frank would be a girl dad. He’s got two daughters and is just so happy with them and Hazel.
- Percy and Annabeth would have three kids, two girls and a son, in that order. I feel like Percy and Annabeth would work hard to have good relationships with their kids and finally relax. I feel like they’d be sorta protective but also be very relaxed with them- educate them about being mature and making good choices.
- I feel like Annabeth would realize how important names were and try to name her kids after popular figures in history who had good stories
- Will and Nico would probably have two kids, both adopted, but one would be one of Will’s half-siblings/half-nephews. The kid was really little, like four or five, when he got to camp and Will just kinda adopted him so he didn’t have to be full-time at camp. They also have a daughter but not until the son is like 12. She’s also adopted and is also a half-blood but I feel like they wouldn’t know who her godly parent is until she’s 12 and then be shocked because she’s like a child of Zeus.
- Leo and Jason would wait a while and focus on their relationship and careers. Then they’d adopt two daughters (not at the same time) and raise them where they don’t know about half-bloods until they’re older. They’d probably be half-bloods so that way they could raise them the way they wished they were raised. Leo and Jason don’t want them to have to see and experience the stuff they had to at such a young age.
- I don’t think any of them would name their kids after any of their late friends. I saw someone, a while ago, bring up that it could result in bad memories or just not be an okay time yet to do so. So— I don’t think that Annabeth would name her kid Silena and I don’t think Nico would name his kid Bianca.
- However, I do feel like Annabeth and Percy would name their eldest Sally after Percy’s mom (it would work well with the headcannon that Annabeth would name her kids after people with good stories) and have her middle name be a positive powerful historical figure.
(I realize I left Piper out— I’ve been forgetting a lot about characters recently and need to go back and reread HOO in order to grasp what I think she’d do in the future)

Save File Progress - San Myshuno
haven't posted any save file progress pics in a while, so hello everyone, here we are once again!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Jacobsens
Lara moved to the city chasing her dream of becoming a model. Despite her talent, she faced constant rejection due to her skin condition. After deciding to leave the modeling world behind, she found a new path when she met her now-husband, Markus, who helped her see her true beauty beyond the industry's standards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. The Lowe Family
Why are Gretel and Alonzo even living here? San Myshuno is a place for successful young folk, not middle-agers. Gretel was big in her 20s, but years without another acting gig has made her think nobody remembers her anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Alt Lovers
Alicia and Micah have been sweethearts for 6 years, and when Alicia came out as bisexual to Micah, they had a conversation about what it could mean for their relationship. Alicia didn't want to break things off, but she was curious in exploring her sexuality. They decided that it would be best for them to add another woman into their relationship, and thus Roma came in. The three have been together for 10 months and they all adore each other. This was truly the best decision for this couple.

4. Boys r Us
Meet Lynn: the fearless mom of four wild sons [and husband], whose life is a never-ending game of Whack-a-Mess. She’s a ninja at dodging flying Nerf darts, a referee for daily WWE-style living room matches, and a reluctant connoisseur of memes so dumb they make her eye twitch. When she’s not rescuing socks from the vacuum or untangling someone from a blanket fort disaster, she’s probably sighing at yet another “hilarious” SimTok her kids insist she must see. Her superpower? Adoring her perfect family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. The Conway Family
Quirky Kari was adopted when she was 5 years old by her fathers Isaac and Leonard. When she was 8, her father Leonard decided that taking care of her was a 'full-time job' because she has a disability. Leonard separated from Isaac on the spot and now lives in the Landgraab Apartments. Kari was too young to understand why her father left and Isaac is too afraid to break it to her. Isaac has been heartbroken since Leo left, but he knows its better this way…Even if he doesnt pay any child support.

6. Leonard Conway
Leonard was previously married to Isaac Conway and fathered his now-teenage daughter Kari until she was 8. He knew he couldnt properly care for Kari, who he deemed was a super high maintenance child, so he got up and left one morning. He misses his ex-husband sometimes, but he genuinely believes he made the right decision for himself. He belongs to nobody and is meant to be alone. He is a successful travel writer who travels for months at a time; he should've never committed to having a family.

Summary: “So, are you going to properly introduce us to your daughter anytime soon?” Leo teased, looking down at the newborn. “I mean, baby McLean is cute, but it’s a bit on the nose as far as names go.”
“You called her Em, right?” Jason asked, apparently eager to get a good grade in uncle. “What's that short for?”
“Technically, her name isn’t officially anything yet,” Piper told them, wiggling into a more comfortable sitting position. “But we’d like to name her Emilia, if Leo is okay with it.”
“Huh?” Leo looked from Piper to Reyna to the baby in utter confusion. “She’s your child. Why would you need my permission to name her anything?”
Piper quirked her eyebrows at him like the answer should be obvious. The gears in his head ground to an abrupt halt. His vision started swimming with tears.
“You want to name your kid after me?”
___
Or: Leo and Jason meet Piper and Reyna’s daughter.
Written for @lost-trio-week day 5: Parents
Word Count: 3.8k
Rating: General Audiences
Gentle CW for mentions of childbirth and anxieties surrounding that topic. I personally think this warning might even be overkill, but as per usual with stuff like this, my rule is better safe than sorry.
This fic is once again dedicated to my friend @queenjunothegreat, because Em was originally her baby (shared custody next gen verse my beloved <3) and she was the one who came up with her name. They also came up with the fic title because I’m useless when it comes to titles lmaooo
Soft married Valgrace & Pipeyna. Also lost trio content, obviously, specific focus once again being Leo and Piper’s friendship (can you tell I care so so much about these idiots?)
———
Leo hated hospitals. A hospital was where he’d spent the first few days after his mom’s death, being treated for smoke inhalation, and it was where his first set of awful foster parents had picked him up.
To say his memories of that time weren’t the fondest would have been the understatement of the century.
And sure, he knew in theory that this was different. New Rome Hospital had a really low death rate for anything that wasn’t battle-related injuries. As far as he knew, there hadn’t been a childbirth-related death here in a century. Realistically, he knew Piper was fine.
Still, the time the rather frazzled-looking Asclepius legacy that had greeted them was taking to figure out where she was and whether it was alright for her to have visitors made Leo’s anxious brain spiral in all kinds of unfun directions.
“Piper might still want to get back at us for the time we both died on her,” he told Jason, anxiously wringing his hands.
His husband raised an eyebrow at him.
“I don’t think she’d die out of spite ten years after the fact,” he commented, squeezing Leo’s hand. “Besides, Reyna said she was doing okay, and you know how she gets about Piper.”
And yeah, alright, that was a fair enough point, but Leo’s anxiety wasn’t exactly great at listening to reason. It never had been.
Nothing would calm him down until he’d seen with his own two eyes that Piper was doing okay.
“If we ever have a kid, we’re adopting,” he sighed into his husband’s shoulder.
Jason laughed, nuzzling him gently before leaning down to kiss him.
Jason’s lips were a little scabbed from where he had anxiously chewed on them.
“You’re such a hypocrite, you know that, right?” Leo teased, grinning up at his husband. “Thank the gods I got rid of all the staplers, or you might have started chewing on those, too. We cannot have you set that kind of example for baby McLean.”
“Will you ever let that one go?” Jason groaned, rolling his eyes. “I was two.”
“What kind of husband would I be if I did let it go, hm?” Leo asked, kissing him again.
Someone cleared their throat. A few years back, this might have made them jump apart like embarrassed children, but now, Leo pulled back slowly, eyes lingering on his husband a while longer.
He’d dragged Jason back out of the Underworld by the collar of his stupid school uniform when they’d been seventeen. He was allowed to be disgustingly in love in public. The people could deal.
The Asclepius legacy stood there again, staring down at his clipboard awkwardly. Leo was pretty sure the guy was younger than him—he looked barely older than twenty.
“Room 201. I wouldn’t recommend staying long—mother and child are both exhausted and will need plenty of rest. And wash your hands before you-”
“Okay, yeah, we’re not complete idiots,” Leo interrupted him. He’d washed his hands four times since getting to the hospital, just because it had given him something to do.
He was moving in an instant, dragging his husband along with him. Thankfully, his ankle had the decency not to be too much of an ass today.
“You’re going in the wrong direction,” Jason commented, voice tinged with amusement as he pulled him back the way they’d come.
“Why do you know that?” Leo asked, raising an eyebrow. “Just how much time did you spend here as a kid?”
Jason ignored him and kept walking.
~~~~
Leo wanted to knock on that stupid blue door. Really, he did.
So he wasn’t sure why it was that, instead of knocking, he stuffed his hands into the kangaroo pocket of his hoodie and just stared at the door like a total idiot.
His outfit wasn’t fancy, but it was clean, which was more than could be said for the clothes he’d worn in the workshop earlier that day. He wasn’t as bad as his husband, who Leo had had to talk out of wearing a suit to the hospital because he was worried about making a good first impression, but he was suddenly worried that maybe he still smelled of motor oil.
The kid would not remember, obviously, but he thought if the first thing he did was upset Piper’s baby, that would still suck. He wasn’t sure what he’d do if they didn’t like him.
Jason squeezed his shoulder. “Mi vida, you're gonna make a great uncle, you know that, right?”
“Duh. I’m incredible,” Leo announced, continuing to stare at the door.
As always, his husband saw right through him—not that Leo was making it especially hard to do so right now.
“They’re gonna love you. I mean it.” Jason nudged him. “You’re great with the kids we help at the shelter.”
“I mean, I guess,” Leo mumbled, but his shoulders relaxed, just a fraction. “If all else fails, I suppose I can always bribe them with candy once they’re a little older.”
Jason laughed, and Leo finally managed to make himself knock.
It was Reyna who opened the door. She wasn’t even the one who’d had the baby, but she still looked as much of a fucking disaster as Leo had ever seen her. She had deep rings under her reddened eyes and was wearing what Leo was decently sure were rumpled pajamas. Her hair had come loose from its usual neat braid and exploded in messy waves around her shoulders.
“It turns out my daughter is really fond of my hair,” Reyna explained dryly, but there was a softness in her eyes that was usually reserved for Piper. “Come in.”
She moved back to her wife’s bedside in an instant.
Piper looked… honestly, Leo had seen her look way worse. Her safety scissors bob didn’t look a lot more messy than usual, if he was being honest. Her skin was sweat-damp and she was obviously exhausted, but no one had stabbed her or tried to cook her into soup, which was definitely a plus.
Well, that and the way she was smiling down at the tiny bundle in her arms.
“Hey Pipes,” Leo said, raising his hand in a ridiculous wave as he moved to stand at her side.
“Hey.” Piper smiled up at them. “Glad you guys could make it. I’d wave back, but I’m holding a baby right now, so.”
The baby was small, but in the way Leo assumed newborns usually were. She had just the slightest hint of dark hair and equally dark eyes and was dressed in a small orange onesie.
She was looking right at him.
“She’s got your nose.” Leo paused. “Well, a very tiny copy of your nose. You’ve kept your own nose, as far as I can tell.”
“You’re lucky I love you as much as I do,” Piper sighed, poking her daughter in the nose in question. “Your tío is a bit of an idiot, but you’re going to love him, too. Trust me.”
The baby cooed happily.
“Great.” Leo groaned dramatically. “I’m being bullied by a newborn.”
Piper laughed.
“How are you feeling?” Jason asked, though Leo knew the baby had about 95% of his husband’s attention right now.
Jason had been pulling faces at her literally since they’d walked in the door.
He’d always been that way around kids, but babies were especially bad. They activated a protective, wildly affectionate parental instinct that Leo had to assume came from Jason’s wolf boy months because he definitely hadn’t gotten it from either of his parents.
It was endearing as hell, but had the unfortunate side effect that it had always made Leo think about a kid of their own, including back when he hadn’t felt even slightly ready for one.
“Exhausted. Content. A little embarrassed.” Piper burst into another fit of tired laughter. “I sort of yelled at my wife to get out. Twice. Which would have been fine, except I was apparently using charmspeak.”
“That you even told her to get out at all seems wildly unfair towards Reyna considering you guys didn’t even have sex,” Leo commented, raising an eyebrow at Piper. “This is, like, objectively not on her.”
Reyna snorted, which was always a massive win in Leo’s book. He’d had a hard time figuring out what sort of jokes made her laugh, and every time he managed, he felt immensely proud of himself.
“Nuh-uh,” Piper protested immediately. “Em may be a magic IVF baby, but she’s a magic IVF baby we both decided to have, so it’s still at least fifty percent Reyna’s fault.”
“That’s a responsibility I will gladly accept. She’s mine and she’s yours and I would not change that for anything in the world.” Reyna pressed a soft kiss to her wife’s forehead. Then she reached down towards her daughter. The baby happily grasped her fingers.
Reyna’s usual serious expression had melted away into a smile that was so sweet Leo thought it’d give him a toothache.
“Yeah, okay, we get it, you guys are adorable,” he commented, because he was a total hypocrite when it came to other people’s PDA. “But what I really want to know is how far out of the hospital you got before the charmspeak wore off.”
“The first time I realized by the end of the hallway. The second time I made it all the way out to the parking lot. How Piper had that kind of energy, I’ll never understand.” Reyna shook her head, a kind of quiet awe in her voice. “Though perhaps worse than me leaving for a few minutes was the fact that the second time it happened, it also affected the midwife.”
Jason abruptly stopped pulling faces at Em to look up at Piper with a horrified expression.
“That sounds terrifying. Are you okay?”
“It was scary as hell at the time.” Piper shrugged. “Looking back on it, it's mostly just funny.”
“You continue to be the strongest warrior I know,” Reyna told her fondly, leaning down to kiss her.
“Love, I was an absolute terror and you know it.” Piper beamed at her wife. “You are cute, though, so maybe I’ll allow it.”
“So, are you going to properly introduce us to your daughter anytime soon?” Leo teased, looking down at the newborn again. “I mean, baby McLean is cute, but it’s a bit on the nose as far as names go.”
“You called her Em, right?” Jason asked, apparently eager to get a good grade in uncle. He looked like he might genuinely explode if he didn’t get to hold the baby within the next three seconds, but also like he’d bravely bear that fate because he didn’t want to be rude. “What's that short for?”
“Technically, her name isn’t officially anything yet,” Piper told them, wiggling into a more comfortable sitting position. “But we’d like to name her Emilia, if Leo is okay with it.”
“Huh?” Leo looked from Piper to Reyna to the baby in utter confusion. “She’s your child. Why would you need my permission to name her anything?”
Piper quirked her eyebrows at him like the answer should be obvious.
The gears in his head ground to an abrupt halt. His vision started swimming with tears.
“You want to name your kid after me?”
Leo hadn’t gone by Emilio since before he’d met Piper. He’d almost forgotten she knew his full name.
“Only if you’re okay with it,” Piper told him, suddenly looking awkward. “I know why you don’t use the name for yourself, but I figured just naming her Lea might be confusing. Sorry, I probably should have asked you sooner. If you don’t want-”
“No, no, if you guys really want that, I’d be honored. But like- why?” he asked in utter disbelief. “Why me, out of all people?”
“Because you’re my best friend,” Piper said, smiling at him. “Because you’re brave and smart and the best person I know. Because you defied fate and found happiness despite all odds. Because I’ll be lucky if she grows up to be even a little bit like you.”
Leo turned to Reyna. He could feel the tears running down his cheeks. “You’re okay with that?”
Reyna nodded, her expression solemn. “If names really do have power, yours is the greatest blessing we can give her.”
Leo was absolutely bawling his eyes out. His husband wrapped an arm around his shaking shoulders and soothingly ran a hand up and down the length of his arm.
“She’s the luckiest kid in the universe,” Jason told him, pressing a kiss to the back of his head.
Leo had thought himself a curse for most of his childhood. He’d gotten better about it in recent years, since he’d made peace with his mothers death and led Jason back out of the Underworld, but the pain had never fully faded.
Piper and Reyna associating his name with joy—choosing it for their daughter to make sure she’d be happy —was hitting him on a level he couldn’t fully process.
It had been one thing to know on a theoretical level that Piper wanted him to be her child’s godfather—minus the religious connotations.
But this? To know his best friend not only trusted him with the smallest, most precious human being Leo had ever met, but that she trusted his name to keep her safe? He genuinely didn’t think he would ever recover from that.
“I love you guys,” he sniffled. “So much.”
He knew that was a deeply uncool reaction. Maybe he should have been all smug and braggy about the whole thing. Maybe he would be, later, once everything had properly sunken in.
But right now, he couldn’t stop crying.
”And we love you right back,” Piper said with a soft smile, leaning forward and holding her armful of curious baby out towards him. “You’re not getting out of holding your niece, you know that, right?”
“Yeah, I know.” He sniffled.
Leo had been terrified of holding Em basically since he knew she existed. He’d never been able to bring himself to hold Percy and Annabeth’s kid, despite all the times they’d babysat back in college. It had been easy enough to pass the job off to Jason, who loved holding babies.
That way, Leo could avoid any potential disasters. No way he could drop a baby he never even held, right?
He’d known that Piper wouldn’t let him get away with that when it came to her child, and that knowledge had scared the hell out of him for months. What if he screwed up? What if he did it wrong and somehow hurt the baby?
But Piper was holding Em out towards him, an expression of utter trust on her face, and Leo couldn’t do anything but reach out to take his tiny niece from her arms, trying to mirror the way Piper had held her.
Emilia stared up at him with wide, curious eyes. Her weight felt awkward in his arms.
“Gods, I’m totally messing this up, aren’t I?”
“You’re really not,” Piper reassured him. “Just make sure you’re supporting her head. Here, I’ll-” She tried to lean forward, but stopped, wincing.
“Hermosa, you’re supposed to be resting,” Reyna told her, voice firm and concerned.
She was smiling at Leo, but she was also wringing her hands, watching him closely like maybe she was expecting him to drop her daughter.
That made two of them.
Leo could easily picture her vaulting over the bed to catch her child if that happened, though that weirdly didn’t make him feel a lot better about the possibility.
“Don’t mind my lovely wife. Rey’s just nervous,” Piper whispered, patting his arm. “You’re the first person aside from us and the hospital staff who gets to hold Em.”
“If you’re trying to make me less nervous, reminding me that I’m messing up one of Emilia’s first experiences with being held was not the way to go,” Leo joked, trying to shift the baby in his arms. This was not very effective, seeing as he had no idea what he was doing.
“I can help, if you want,” Jason volunteered immediately. He waited for Leo to nod, then put his hands over Leo’s and carefully adjusted his hold on Em a bit. “Here. Just support her head a little more. You’re doing great, mi vida.”
Emilia’s weight felt a little less awkward in his arms now. Leo relaxed a fraction, smiling down at her.
“Thanks for the assist.”
“Always.” Jason nuzzled Leo’s cheek. “You were barely even messing up. You just have a tendency to overthink things when you’re nervous.”
“Says the guy who almost came here in a suit,” Leo commented, but he didn’t look up. His entire focus was on the newborn in his arms. He was mesmerized.
“Hi, sobrinita.” He was still sniffling, but he hadn't made his niece cry yet, so he was counting that as a win. “Gods, you’re a literal baby and somehow I’m the one wailing at you. So much for decent first impressions, hm?”
Emilia cooed at him.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought,” he agreed, nodding his head at his niece. Holding her grew easier with each passing moment. She was looking at him like he was the only person in the universe.
Leo loved her immediately.
He couldn’t believe he’d been as anxious as he had about holding her. He couldn’t believe he’d almost made himself miss out on this.
 “Pipes, I hope you’re not expecting me to say no to her, ever, because I can tell you right now that it’s not gonna happen.”
Piper laughed. “Oh, please. Your job was never going to be responsible godfather. If that was what I was looking for, I’d have picked someone else.”
“We’re gonna get into so much trouble together,” he whispered to Em, grinning at her.
This time, Emilia didn’t smile back at him. Instead she scrunched up her face and started crying.
Leo froze.
“Oh gods, I’m so sorry. I don’t know what I did, I was just-”
“Babies cry. You didn’t do anything wrong,” Piper told him gently. “I can’t believe she’s been as quiet as she has since you two came in, honestly. This is the calmest she’s been since she was born.”
“Oh.” Leo had almost managed to stop crying, but that made him start up again.
“She cried when I first held her, too,” Reyna told him. When he looked up at her, he could tell some of the tension had gone out of her shoulders, despite the fact that he’d just managed to upset her daughter. “I’m glad she’ll grow up knowing her emotions aren’t something to fear.”
Leo hadn’t even considered thinking about it like that, but it made sense that Reyna would. When he’d first met her, there would have been no way for him to tell if she’d cried—if she’d allowed herself to cry at all.
He looked at her red-rimmed eyes again, the expression on her face genuine and fond, and could immediately feel more tears running down his cheeks. He’d have walked over and hugged her this instant if it hadn’t been for the newborn in his arms.
“Yeah.” Leo sniffled. “Me too.”
He was pretty sure he hadn’t cried this many happy tears since Jason had started reciting his wedding vows in slightly awkward Spanish.
“Can I-” Jason asked, gesturing vaguely towards Emilia. When Leo and Piper both nodded, he took the baby into his own arms, rocking her gently. His expression immediately melted into the world’s softest smile.
Seeing them like this, Leo would have married him again in an instant.
“She’s probably overstimulated. This is the most people she’s ever met in her life,” Jason concluded once he’d managed to soothe her a little.
“I get it. People are really overwhelming.” Leo wiped at his eyes. “I still can’t believe my stupid sewer rat face is, like, the fifth face this poor kid has ever seen. She did not need to be exposed to sewer rats this early in her life.”
“There’s nothing wrong with your face,” Jason protested immediately. “I like your face.”
“You’re married to me. You’re supposed to say that,” Leo teased, but he still found himself smiling. “We should probably leave you guys for the day, hm? You three all look like you could use a nap.”
“As long as you promise you’ll be back soon,” Piper insisted, smiling up at them as Jason—very reluctantly—handed Emilia back to her. “Hi, sweetie. You’re a little sleepy, hm?”
Emilia yawned in agreement.
“You’re not getting rid of us that easily.” Leo grinned at his best friend.
“Thanks for coming here as soon as you did. And, you know, for all the other sappy stuff I’m not going to say right now because I think we’ve all cried enough for one day.”
“Yeah. Gotta save some of that for tomorrow,” Leo agreed, wiping at his eyes with his sleeve. Then he reached out, gently pressing his finger into his niece’s palm. “Bye bye, Emilia. Be nice to your moms, okay?”
Her hand closed into a fist, holding his finger tightly.
Leo let out a startled laugh.
“She’s got excellent reflexes,” Reyna said proudly.
“Yeah, well, I guess that means we’re not leaving yet. I’m really not sure how I’ll ever get out of this finger trap without the ability to turn into an iguana.”
Both Piper and Jason immediately cracked up. Reyna just looked confused. Leo made a mental note to tell her that particular story some other time.
“Anything we should bring you tomorrow?” Jason asked. He looked Reyna over. “Do you want some clothes that aren’t, uh-”
“…pajamas?” Reyna laughed. “Yes. That would be great. I checked the hospital bag about fourteen times to make sure we’d packed everything we might need, but it somehow did not occur to me that we’d be leaving in the middle of the night, nor that I’d need to pack any clothes for myself.”
“I want a large coffee and the least healthy pastry you can find,” Piper said immediately. “Reyna has everything else covered.”
Leo laughed. He reluctantly removed his finger from Em’s grasp, linking his hand with his husband’s as they left.
And, well, if he spent the rest of the evening baking horrendously sugary pastries, that was nobody’s business but his own.
Fic Notes:
-Fun fact! I edited this at 3 am last night and then I didn’t even post it because I couldn’t think of a title. It is now, once again, 3 am. My sleep schedule is doing great, thanks for asking.
-The concept of “names have power” is so interesting to toy with specifically in a context like this. Because like, objectively, Leo has had a lot of bad stuff happen to him. He’d never even considered thinking of his name as a blessing before this. But few demigod or legacies lead easy lives, and in the end the thing that outweighs anything else is that he’s managed to find happiness, despite the odds being stacked against him.
-Also, considering Reyna has a prophecy hanging over her head that’s specifically linked to family legacy, it just makes sense for her and Piper to choose Leo’s name. What better way to protect your child from a prophecy than giving her the name of someone who defied his fate?
-Would really like to eventually go into Reyna’s feelings on all this more, but that deserves a whole fic of its own.
-For anyone who’d like context on the Emilio thing, the very basic idea of that being Leo’s full name and him never using it is that his mom always used his full name and he’s terrified he’ll forget what it sounded like if other people use it, because no one ever says it quite like she did.
-Here’s a little fic Juno wrote about Piper finding out Leo’s full name for anyone who wants a little extra context!
-“But canonically his name is Leonidas.” As far as I’m aware, Rick actually confirmed his name is just Leo. Also, this is a fanfic, I can therefore do whatever I want :)
Thank you so much for reading! Comments, as always, extremely appreciated.
Hello :D
I wanted to know how do you decide the kids each sim has because I struggle to regulate my save’s population. I saw some people using dice to decide it and others simply have them by the decade they’re on but I still wanted to know your method!
Personally, I don’t ‘plan’ how many kids each generation will have too much but rather have in mind how many I think they would have had in that particular era of time and see how it works out.
If this is interesting for you, here is what informed each generation…
1890: large families were common, especially for working class folk, so I knew I would plan for at least 4 children. When I decided to go for a 5, it was twins.
1900: 2 children, as Ernie was aiming for a more upper class lifestyle. But I knew that Ernie would adopt his sisters daughter Marigold making it really 3 children.
1910: there was no official heir for this generation but I knew that Primrose and Marigold would each have 1 child. Primrose didn’t get to have anymore as she was widowed, but she helped raise Marigolds son which fulfilled any desire she had for more. Marigold was asexual, she had her son but just never fell pregnant again.
1920: Daisy had 3 children by seperate partners, as a consequence of being a very sexual and impulsive person during a time where there was no contraception.
1930: going back to working class farm roots during the Great Depression I thought the family would have more children again, so I knew there would be 4 at least. Having twins on the 2nd pregnancy meant that this happened quickly.
1940: I had planned for 2 children, one born during the war (Margot) and one born after the war, due to Douglas and Joan’s long time apart serving. However there was an accidental 3rd child anyway (Lewis).
1950: in the Baby Boom it felt natural to have a large family, so 4 was the goal again. However I remained open to 5, which is why Stella was conceived.
1960: when Leo became heir I knew he and Valerie wouldn’t be the big family type, and thanks to contraception they didn’t have to be. They were only meant to have 1 child and then realise they weren’t cut out for it, but had accidental twins.
1970: going back to Hippy roots again I felt Eleanor would have a larger family, with a goal of 3 - I decided later that 4 felt more fitting, it just took a long time for her to fall pregnant with Summer.
1980: 2 children was always the goal, as family sizes shrank towards the end of the century and April was a working woman. When River remarried I knew he would have a later-in-life child with his new wife.
1990: playing with early IVF technology I knew that Jenny and Heather would have a multiples pregnancy of at least 2 - having 3 was a fun bonus!
He looks like a Pepito
For @anonymous-dentist’s Spiderbit Week Day 2
Prompt: Modern AU/Family
.
Cellbit would think that, for the third time he received a call of this type in his life, he would be somewhat more prepared for the flood of emotions that quickly took possession of his chest, but, as an experienced father, he recognizes that it was inevitable, and that the nerves and anxiety he felt at that moment were a natural part of the process.
Just a few minutes ago, he was in Esperanza’s room, helping her with the hairstyle she had chosen for that day and laughing at the faces she made at him from the reflection of the small vanity mirror in her room. His husband, just one floor away, was still struggling with their children, especially Richarlyson, to get them to take a bath and get ready to go out. Bobby, a natural instigator, was simply playing along with his younger brother, just for the satisfaction of seeing their apá run after them around the house.
If they kept going at that pace, they would be late for the family lunch organized by his in-laws, unpunctual to celebrate his sister-in-law Leo’s recent victory in a fencing tournament. However, all plans they originally had went out the window the moment he felt his phone ring and recognized the call's origin. He quickly gave his daughter a look through the mirror, which she immediately understood, placing small bands at the end of her unfinished braid and leaving her room with the mission to find her dad.
Without thinking much, he took his phone, inhaling quickly and mentally preparing himself for the words he knew he would hear. Four days earlier, he and Roier had received a call from the agency, informing them of the possibility of receiving a small baby of just three months old who had tragically lost his parents in an accident, his fate still undecided as the police were still searching for any relatives willing to take custody of the child. His guapito, bless his heart, quickly moved by the information, promptly informed the social worker that if needed, they were even willing to be foster parents for as long as it took to find the baby a permanent home.
It was impossible for his mozão to avoid feeling and acting quickly on the baby's situation they had just learned about, reminding him of his eldest son and how he had come into his and Jaiden’s life, just a one-year-old infant who had lost his mother, a close friend of both, after a long battle with cancer. And he didn't blame him, for just thinking about the child, his paternal instinct screamed with an intense need to care and protect.
Finally, after months of paperwork and extensive investigation, their family was first on the list of potential adoptive parents of the Federation, a government agency dedicated to the safety and protection of children and youth in dangerous situations. Cellbit knew better than anyone how cruel the system could be, having grown up in it and experienced firsthand the suffering it brought to children abandoned by life itself, deciding from an early age that if he ever became a father, it would be to a child from the system, just like him.
That's how Richarlyson and Esperanza had come into his life. The first, like his older brother with his dad, came his way at the mere age of one, being the youngest patient of Pac, his friend and one of his roommates at the time, who was in the process of creating a special prosthesis for the little one considering the rapid growth of the infant. Just a couple of sessions with him were enough to have his friend wrapped around his little finger, being legally adopted by him and Pac and raised among the group of friends and roommates, whom Richas considered all his parents, affectionately nicknamed Favela as their family name.
At that time, he had only been dating Roier for a few months, who quickly became one of his lifelines in the process of becoming a father, embracing fatherhood with an open heart. His little Bobby also played a crucial role, who, with his short three years, helped his little brother quickly adapt to his new environment and life, eager to teach him everything he was learning and ready to play with him for the rest of his life.
Esperancita, on the other hand, joined their family a year after their marriage, already a five year old girl, whom they adopted out of the foster care system after a short but painful life of abandonment, having moved from family to family without a permanent home. It took a while for her to adapt to the chaotic but loving family unit they formed with his guapito and two whirlwind sons, but there was no one like his beloved to get even the most tormented soul to come out of its shell, having experienced it firsthand in those times when they were just a pair of namorados. Their princess had come to change their lives and fill one of the missing pieces of what was their family, the perfect little sandwich right between her brothers.
Since then, their precious family of five had become his main focus, leaving his detective career aside to pursue his dream of writing a mystery and horror book series, and to be able to spend more time with his children from home, while his husband continued to grow his private psychology practice. This was until a few months ago when, right around the second anniversary of adopting their daughter, after a sleepless night talking with Roier about everything and nothing at the same time, they jointly concluded that it was the right time to finally complete their family and add one last member to it, starting the process again to adopt another little one into their egg carton.
In the present, as the social worker confirmed that indeed, the baby they had only known about for a few days was theirs, he felt his husband approaching him. Quickly thanking her and informing her that they would be at the hospital as soon as possible to pick him up, he quickly ended the call and turned to look his guapito in the eyes.
“Gatinho?” Roier looked at him with eyes full of hope and anxiety.
“Guapito… Our baby is waiting for us.” Saying those words alleviated some of the nervousness gripping his heart.
In a special and intimate moment, they exchanged a look full of excitement and love, before each going their separate ways to prepare quickly, just as they had planned. Cellbit hurried to their room, speeding to grab the bag they had prepared for their little one in case the long-awaited call came and started getting the car ready, while Roier ran to find their little ones, updating them quickly on the news they had been waiting for as a family and taking them to Jaiden’s house for her to watch them, thanking the universe and the gods above that she was just a house away.
Once in the car with his husband and heading to the hospital, he drove carefully fast to the Quesadilla Hospital, anxious to have the youngest member of their family in his arms as soon as possible. Roier, on his part, apologized to his parents for not being able to attend the organized lunch and shared the happy news, hearing Leo's screams of joy through the speakerphone of his husband's phone. After a brief shared laugh at hearing his in-laws' excitement, they spent the rest of the short drive in comfortable silence, both still in the process of internalizing what was about to happen and feeling their bodies vibrate with that familiar paternal anxiety.
At the hospital, everything became a blurred memory until they were outside the room where their son was, squeezing his husband’s hand in his to give them both the courage they needed to enter the room. The social worker, after greeting them, briefly updated them on the child's health status and gave them the go-ahead to meet the newest member of their family, congratulating them in the process.
The moment their eyes fell on their baby, the tiniest thing he had ever seen in his life, wrapped in a blanket and in the center of a crib that looked too big in comparison, all the anxiety running through his veins vanished and was quickly replaced with a love so intense it made every cell in his body vibrate. It took just one look to know that he was the missing piece in the puzzle of the family he had built with the love of his life.
Feeling his husband’s hand leave his, he redirected his gaze to him, watching as he slowly approached the little sleeper to take him in his arms and kiss his small head with few light brown hairs. If before he felt his heart couldn’t handle all the love coursing through his being, seeing his guapito with their baby made it finally explode. He loved the emotions his children unleashed in him, but nothing compared to the blinding joy that filled his chest at seeing him, his guapito, in the precise moment he became a father again. “Gods,” he thought, “how I love sharing this life with you.”
“Cellbo… he’s here, finally.” Roier’s eyes were filled with unshed tears, just like his. The small room emanated an aura of peace, wrapping them in a blanket of love and the radiance typically associated with new parents. Not wanting to exclude himself from the moment, he embraced his husband from behind, his hands gently resting on his guapito’s, holding the little one. The baby smell reaching his nose was what made his tears fall freely down his cheeks.
“His name is José,” said the social worker. Honestly, he had forgotten she was in the room with them, blinded by his emotions and the divine sight before his eyes.
“Yes, he looks like a José,” he quickly commented, analyzing his little one’s fine features, from his long eyelashes, his plump and rosy cheeks, to the small pout on his lips, so similar to his husband’s that he could easily pass as his biological child. A soft yet strong name for this little boy, a gift from his parents that will accompany him for the rest of his life.
His guapito, for his part, begins to gently rock the baby as he feels him move in his arms, still enchanted by the mere presence of the little one in his hands. When the baby’s tiny eyelids fluttered open, he could not help but let out a small sound of delight as his gaze meets a beautiful pair of green irises looking at them with curiosity. He knew that, technically, the color of the baby's eyes could still change, but he wanted to engrave those sweet green eyes into his memory and into the permanence of life itself, as they perfectly completed the image of sweetness that was his youngest child.
"He looks like a Pepito… ¿No lo crees, corazón?" Roier softly mentions, as if speaking louder would disrupt the tranquility enveloping them. And he couldn't agree more, that sweet look called for a fitting nickname. While he had the face of a José, Pepito felt just right.
"Você está certo amor..." he murmurs as well, the words escaping his lips naturally. "Pepito, bem-vindo à família."
I have too many aus already but my brain’s thinking
AU where Quesadilla Island is instead a small town that’s known for being a hub for the supernatural
The Federation is a group brought into the town that is made up of, essentially, monster hunters who aim to ‘protect’ the regular human townsfolk. Feelings among the townsfolk about the Federation are mixed. Some support their mission, others are more dubious but still kind to the Federation workers, and others believe they’re making the town more unsafe
Unknown to the Federation, there are a few supernatural beings living right under their noses, pretending to be ordinary people
Charlie Slimecicle is a werewolf
He refers to his wolf form as Slarf. Slarf is a black wolf, with piercing red eyes
He works out and eats a ridiculous amount of protein partially so he can brush off his supernatural strength as a product of his routine
No one knows he’s a werewolf, not even his partner Mariana or best friend and roommate Baghera, and he desperately wants to keep it that way
At some point, he out of nowhere ‘adopts’ a daughter called JuanaFlippa. She’s actually a young orphaned werewolf who got very attached Slarf on a full moon night and now refuses to leave Charlie’s side
Cellbit is a vampire
Not born one, but bitten. He has a sister who is human
His son Richarlyson and his boyfriend Roier are the only ones who know what he is
He gets a job at the Federation to gain information, and with the hopes it’ll reduce any suspicion placed on him - but it potentially does the opposite, now regularly having their eyes on him
When he needs to feed, he tends to target Federation workers to kill two birds with one stone
BadBoyHalo and Tina are demons
They are on earth for different reasons, and they both know about each other
Bad is there to mentor a young demon, Dapper, and teach him about humans
Tina is far more secretive about why she’s living on earth. She’s close friends with Mouse, the only person aside from Bad who knows what she is
Both are close friends (or frenemies in Bad’s case) with Foolish - which becomes potentially dangerous when he gets hired to work for the Federation
Speaking of Foolish, he’s actually merfolk
A shark merman to be specific. He’s also King of the Merfolk, aka KOM. His status grants him immortality and the ability to change his form to have legs. With his long lifespan, the decades he spends in the town are just like a brief vacation to him
Already knows Bad isn’t human - he remembers seeing Bad hanging around on earth a few times over the past hundreds of years. He doesn’t know about Tina
He has a child, his little princess Leo, who likes to hang out with him on land. His husband, Vegetta, tends to spend a lot of time busy in their underwater kingdom
His human roommate, Jaiden, knows about him - they tell each other everything
Joined the Federation both for fun, and like Cellbit to get info and get suspicion off of himself
Philza is an angel
Angel of Death specifically
Feels rather safe despite being a supernatural being due to not being as ‘dangerous’ as others, meaning he likely isn’t a number one target of the Federation. He’s not demonic, legend doesn’t say he lures people to drown in oceans, he doesn’t lose control and attack people, he doesn’t need to go on killing sprees to survive
Not to mention his connection to gods and deities gives him safety and places of refuge
The biggest issue he has is hiding his wings. Aside from that, he’s pretty comfortable living with his human partner and children
Absolutely knows Something Is Up with the other five but doesn’t know for sure what. He’s not a narc, so he doesn’t ask
I love how Foolish always puts his daughter’s feelings first, because his first response to hearing that Leo doesn’t trust or necessarily even like the new eggs was, “Should we kill Empanada, then?”
Up to this point, most of the new parents have constantly been reassuring their kids that everyone loves them, that the older eggs might just be shy, that their other parents will show up and immediately love them. (Of course, the exception is Roier, who doesn’t trust Pepito at all but who has found himself caring about Pepito anyway.)
Meanwhile, several of the older members are telling their eggs to go be friends with the new eggs, don’t be mean, etc.
This is, in fact, a mistake that is going to bite everybody in the ass. Setting the new eggs up with expectations that everybody loves them is setting them up to be crushed when an egg like Tallulah or Leo doesn’t want to be friends. There’s a solid chance that Sunny or Pepito or Empanada will be destroyed when their absentee parents (Quackity, Mariana, Charlie, and Jaiden in particular) show up and may not want to be their parents.
What a lot of people don’t understand about the new and old eggs is that the new eggs aren’t like. Family to the old eggs. All the eggs up through Pomme came from the adoption center and supposedly had the same dragon mother. These new eggs? Nobody knows where they came from, they have clashing stories about their lives before Quesadilla Island. They’re complete strangers.
Sure, Pepito and Richarlyson are siblings, but that’s because they share a common parent in both Roier and Quackity (and Cellbit by technicality.) Everybody else? These new eggs are total unknowns that they really just don’t know they can trust.
Most of the eggs have been pretty chill with the new ones, but others like Leo and Tallulah. Aren’t. And, realistically, why should they be? They don’t know these other kids. And their respective parents trying to get them to be friendly with each other is just getting the og eggs hurt by having their feelings be ignored by their parents and it’s getting the new eggs hurt by forcing them to personally experience someone being forced to deal with them and clearly not being happy about it.
That’s why I appreciate Foolish and Phil’s parenting. They’ve decided that their child’s feelings come first, so it’s fine if Tallulah and Leo don’t want to hang out with these new kids on the block.
I have literally nothing about the new parents who are doing their best, but you can see a difference in parenting between Roier, who has been up there with Bad as the eggs’ primary babysitter since day one of the og egg event, and the newer players. Roier, for all his many MANY faults, isn’t setting Pepito up for failure by telling Pepito that his other parents are going to show up and adore him. For better or for worse, he’s being realistic and setting Pepito’s expectations low, and he’s still giving Pepito a family in himself and Richarlyson despite his own emotions and problems. He lets Pepito make friends, like Dapper and now Richarlyson, on his own without pushing him (too much, but it was mostly Cellbit’s Ghost telling Richarlyson to get along with Pepito), and now Pepito is somehow the only newer egg to not feel really super fucking depressed over the other eggs not liking him. (He’s still super upset about his other parents, but he’s more or less accepted this life while saying he’ll wait for his other parents to arrive, and we all know that at least Rivers and Cellbit will like him.)
TLDR; Setting these kids up with the expectation that everybody loves/will love them is setting them up for failure and depression, and making the older eggs socialize with them will Not help matters any. Foolish and Roier and Phil’s parenting choices regarding this are probably actually helping make the kids happier in the long run because not everybody needs to be friends, and that’s fine
Finally get to post my Clara doodles! : )
oh and here's some more b/c my internet was down and i really like drawing her (i got attached very quickly lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, i should probably explain a little more about Clara before i go any farther. (i'll put it under a break b/c, most likely, it will be long)
Clara is, essentially, Donnie's adopted daughter. She's not biologically related to the boys in any way. Donnie found her, unhatched, and brought her back to an incubator he had set up in his lab specifically for her.
(i couldn't see Donnie, who hates his powers, going out of his way to create the next Seer. He would rather risk breaking the cycle or whatever than create a child specifically for such a purpose. But, if he found the child who was going to be their replacement, he would not leave them to die. or worse, risk them surviving and growing up without the safety of the vault or someone to explain their powers.)
Donnie found her at a zoo, where a very dedicated zookeeper had been doing their best to take care of what animals they could. One of which was a pair of Indian Peacock Softshell turtles who had laid eggs, one of which got mutated by a leftover oozqueito before ever hatching. That would soon be Clara. Donnie showed up the day the zookeeper died, collected her, and brought her back to the lab so she would continue to grow.
Donnie did consider her to be his child, even though he knew he would never properly meet her. He spent a lot of time searching through visions, watching her grow up in the only way he could. He insured she would want for nothing. Knowledge, gear, whatever he could foresee her needing, he made sure it was ready for her. just as he did for the rest of his family. (he might hate his Seer powers, but he couldn't deny they were useful when it came to preparing for his death)
So Clara grew up in the care of her Uncles (mostly Leo but Mikey and Raph definitely helped) as well Cass and April. (She actually calls Cass, Mama Casey b/c that's what CJ calls her. Also b/c, early on, her visions would upset her to the point where only being around CJ would calm her down. So Cass said that if she was going to watch them at night this often, she was claiming Clara as her kid too. Thus she did.)
Clara and CJ's powers strengthened pretty early (apocalypse does that). It upset her at first, but as time went on, she got tired of crying over it and decided to be angry at them. Her standard way of dealing with bad visions as a teen, was to beat up a training dummy until she either felt marginally better and then sought out CJ, or until CJ found her there.
personality wise, Clara is loud and brash. she is also snarky as hell and has little to no verbal filter. (she's essentially an 03 or 12 Raph lol) She absolutely hates feminine clothing with a passion and whenever Mikey or Raph tried to dress her up as a child, she and CJ would switch clothes as soon as the two looked away.
i think that's it for now? i can't think of anything else really. Other than maybe that i've figured out a way i could add her character (minus the seer powers) to the cannon apocalypse without upsetting the plot much. But i'm not sure i'm going to do it since it's very tragic and i'm not sure i want to put Donnie through that.
TW: death. only death. it’s just pain
Please Don’t Take My Sunshine Away
Donnatello was a man of science. He basked in it, he also considered himself a smart man. Someone who wouldn’t make brash decisions (that was Nardos job) so tell him why he found a yokai infant and immediately adopted it. It was a softshell turtle like him. “ An Apalone mutica “ is what he told his family when he brought the turtle infant home, Leo and Raph both showed worry to him having a child. Mikey was more than supportive. “ wait- what kind of turtle? “ asked April. He paused “ A smooth softshell turtle. It, “ he paused looking down at you “ They, are a smooth softshell turtle “. April smiled gently before Mikey jumped in “ AWWW! they’re soo cute! You’re gonna have to make ‘em a little baby battleshell! “ he still hadn’t lost his spunk to the apocalyptic downfall, even if his older brothers had. Raph struggled with everyone’s safety and health. Leo’s shoulders sagged with the responsibility of the resistance and the guilt of it all. Donnie was stressed with the tech he needs to make it work. He smiled when he walked off with you. Leaving his family behind him. He didn’t mean to leave them behind.
Tumblr media
Despite the constant crying, he was more then patient with you. You weren’t exactly an easy baby, always whining whenever Donnie tried leaving you. Y’know how sometimes parents have those nightmares about their kids dying? he had more then his fair share of them. Every time he fell asleep he gets these dreams that seem more prophetic then anything. It’s of you, you’re older, probably in your early teens and he watches you die two ways. Being crushed by a falling building and..drowning. Donnie always pulls you out of the water, he always tries to bring you back but then not even a shaky breath and you go limp in his arms. Donnie always remembers seeing his younger twin talking to him, trying to bring him back to attention but…all he can hear is ringing. He always wakes up from those dreams with a loud gasp and heaving breaths before sobbing, finding his way to your makeshift crib and just watching you breathe. It fills Donnie with relief every damn time. He always mumbles your favorite lullaby when he watches you “ …please don’t take, my sunshine away… “
Tumblr media
It’s funny how quickly people age, you went from an infant with a army of sponges tied to your shell to having your own battle shell made for you. Because of Donnie’s horrific dreams when you were just a baby he’s adding a float to it but…he can’t really combat a whole building. You usually hung out with April or Draxum much to your fathers and Tío Leo’s contempt. When you had gotten your shell, you immediately signed onto a patrol. It was supposedly an easy one, that was a lie. The kraang attacked the patrol. The robots crushing or decimating the crowd with its laser. You didn’t have a change to escape before a pole crushed your arm, panic rising in your chest as you kicked at the hard metal, the kraang bots laser getting closer. And eventually? It found you.
When Donnie caught wind of the attacked patrol he was expecting his daughter to be driving him up a all with all her questions but…she wasn’t there. Weird. Tuning, he saw you, your arm impaled and blood leaking from your ears. Your plastron caved in and shell ripped up. He rushed forward, falling to his knees and pulling the pole out of your arm and pulling you into his lap. You weren’t dead. You were holding on by a thread, shallow gasps filling your lungs as he shushed you and shaky sung “ You are my sunshine…my only sunshine, you make me happy, when sky’s are grey- you’ll never know dear, how much I love you…please don’t take my sunshine away.. “ Donnie seemed like he was speaking past you, to someone he thought must’ve been there….he’s never sobbed that hard, not even when his older brother died. He swore his lungs would collapse from the pressure of his screams, no one could pull him from you. His child. His Star. It took him till sunset to calm down. A hushed shaky sob leaving him as he held you again, swearing that he would be more careful. For himself, and for others.
What the Bad Batchers kids would be like!!
(a short collection of characters to keep my mind off my current WIP)
Disclaimer!! There is no ‘timeline’ per se, just ages. You be the judge.
Markus:
the son of Tech and Phee (sorry, I had to!).
He is 16 years of age and the epitome of the best of both worlds.
He is very intelligent, and adventurous. He also has a strange love of geology, but we won’t get into that.
He is generally quite bashful like his father but leans a little more towards extrovert like his mother.
 One of those kids who really prefers to stay out of trouble at all costs, but then surprises you with lock-picking skills or something. (still working on him. Will probably add more later)
Leonié (or as preferred, Leo):
the daughter of Crosshair (I had too much fun with this one.
 She is 14 years old and was… not meant to happen, but here she is.
She lived with her mother until she was eight (mainly because Crosshair didn’t know she existed) but now she lives with her father and the rest of the bad batch.
She is very monotone, yet sassy like her father, and (though she’d never admit it) wants more than anything to be just like him.
She is an ambivert with the social battery of an Android phone.
She looks just like Crosshair but with some… obvious differences.
She is a troublemaker, but not the normal kind. She’s the kind that will go days acting like an angel, and then one day, there’s Suran wrap on all the toilet seats, which distracts you from her sneaking out to go get piercings and a tattoo. Yeah.
Is, as the writer of Enola Holmes said, prone to melancholy (aka she’s a smidge bipolar).
Buck (shut up, I know it’s a dumb name)
Is Hunter’s son (I ship Fennter, but we’re not getting into that right now)
He is 13 years old, and a scrappy little kiddo.
He definitely inherited Hunter’s shortness and gets into regular arguments with Leo about it.
And yes, he and Leo are the “you're an idiot, said with (platonic) love” duo.
He is an extrovert and very curious. Loves to see all the different cultures of planets.
Also inherited his father’s fabulous hair
Usually stays out of trouble, but… things happen.
Scout:
Wrecker’s (adopted) son.
8 years old.
Wrecker found him on the planet equivalent to Scotland (don’t ask) as an infant, and was immediately like “This child is mine now.”
He is very high-energy. All.the.time!
Is the kind of kid that is always accidentally getting into trouble, and it’s cute for some reason.
Extrovert. No way around it.
Want’s to try everything, meet everyone, do everything, eat every food, all at the same time type of energy.
Please leave comments, I'm new to all this and wold love feedback!!!
Theophano?
Hi! I'm not sure what you mean to ask, so I'm just going take it as an opportunity to talk about Theophano and her life.
Theophano was a Byzantine empress in the second half of the 10th century. She was the daughter-in-law of Constantine VII; wife of Romanos II and Nikephoros II Phokas; lover of John I Tzimiskes; and mother of Basil II and Constantine VIII.
She was famed for her extraordinary beauty, with chronicles hailing her as a "miracle of nature" who surpassed all other women of her age.
She was born to a family of reportedly low birth, with Skylitzes and Leo the Deacon both emphasizing her obscure origins. The former also claimed that Theophano's father was an innkeeper, and while we don't know if this is true or exaggerated, given the background of some former empresses (eg: Theodora), it's certainly plausible. We know next to nothing about her childhood, although she was probably close to her mother, who she may have brought to the palace and who was later exiled along with, although separately from, her daughter.
Theophano met Romanos, the heir of Emperor Constantine VII, as a teenager. The young prince seems to have become infatuated by her and decided to marry her in around 956, accordingly forcing a fait accompli on his family. It's possible that the imperial dynasty may have attempted to invent a noble lineage for Theophano to circumvent the controversy.
Theophano adopted her name after her marriage, having previously been known as Anastaso. She was trained in her duties as a member of the royal family, serving her apprenticeship as junior Augusta under the tutelage of her experienced mother-in-law Helena Lekapena. Both empresses were prominent in imperial ceremonies during Constantine’s reign, particularly during the reception of Olga of Kiev.
Romanos II came to the throne on November 959. At least one chronicle accused him and Theophano of conspiring together to poison her father-in-law Constantine and hasten their own ascent to power, although no evidence suggests that the former emperor died of poison or any kind of foul play.
During Romanos's very brief reign, he seems to have played little role in governance but instead entrusted administration to the eunuch Joseph Bringas. Most historians believe that Theophano was very influential during that time, with Romanos relying on her for advice and support. She certainly participated in political intrigue, supplanting the much more established and well-connected dowager empress, and successfully convinced Romanos to forcibly exile all his sisters to convents. This may suggest that she had less-then-cordial relations with her in-laws. More strikingly, it demonstrates that despite her youth and origins, Theophano succeeded in removing any other candidate of potential influence around Romanos, establishing herself as the dominant force at court. It's tempting to speculate what further role she might have played had her husband lived longer, but I suppose we’ll never know.
During their marriage, she and Romanos had four known children together: Helena, Basil, Constantine and Anna.
Romanos died prematurely in 963, after a short reign of less than three-and-a-half years. Theophano was once again rumored to have poisoned him, although this is extremely unlikely: as a favored and influential young empress, she had nothing to gain everything to lose from such an action. Moreover, she had given birth to her youngest child just a few days prior and was still in confinement, making it logistically improbable for her to have orchestrated such a conspiracy, with all the variables it entailed.
During her sons’ minority, Theophano was appointed as regent to the throne on the authority of the senate and patriarch. During that time, Skylitzes claimed that she was responsible for poisoning Stephen, son of Romanos Lekapenos, a possible contender for the throne who had been in exile and died suddenly on Easter Sunday. If this is true, it would have been a political act to secure her sons’ positions against possible threats, although the veracity of the accusation is unknown.
Unfortunately, Theophano’s regency was destined to be a short one. While one source asserted that she was capable of handling political affairs herself, and that she may not have wished to remarry, circumstances seemed to have forced/enabled her to choose otherwise.
At the time of Romanos's death, there was bad blood between Bringas, who remained administer of the empire, and Nikephoros Phokas, a renowned general of the army. The latter decided to seize the throne, probably due to the persuasion of his supporters rather than his own inclination. He was proclaimed Emperor by the army and was bound by an oath not to conspire against the rule of the young emperors. However, Bringas relentlessly plotted against him, attempting to deprive him of the position and offering the crown to someone else of his choosing.
During this factional struggle, Theophano decided to back Nikephoros, probably recognizing that the local and military support he possessed would be beneficial for her sons. She provided him with required legitimacy and was instrumental in his ascension to power: according to Zonaras, it was on her orders that he came to Constantipole to celebrate his triumph in April 963. Skylitzes even reports that they were lovers, and that Nikephoros desired the throne due to his infatuation with the beautiful young empress. Although it’s plausible the pair were in close communication with each other and may have decided to marry, an extra-marital actual affair is out of question given what we know of Nikephoros’s reticent and ascetical character. This was probably yet another way for chronicles to try and malign Theophano.
The situation was complicated by the fact that Nikephoros was godfather to one or both of Theophano’s sons, which would technically make the marriage uncanonical. In particular, the patriarch Polyeuktos was apparently very opposed to it. However, Nikephoros refused to be separated from Theophano, and the situation was resolved with the (probably invented) explanation that it was actually Nikephoros’s father, Bardas Phokas, who had been the young emperors’ godfather.
Theophano was a very influential empress during Nikephoros’s reign, with Leo the Deacon noting with disapproval that he “habitually granted Theophano more favours than were proper”. She was given profitable estates, was an active intercessor, and witnessed her two sons living in splendor and comfort in the palace. Considering what we know about her later life, she seems to have cultivated excellent relations with them.
However, relations between the imperial couple may have deteriorated, primarily from Theophano’s perspective, though chronicles aren’t unanimous on the details. Zonaros claimed that Nikephoros kept away from her due to his disinterest in sexual relations (though he appears to have still been devoted to her and honored her as an empress), while Skylitzes records that Theophano was the distancing partner. Some sources believed that Theophano may have grown concerned for the future and safety of her children, either at Nikephoros or his brother Leo’s hands.
All sources agree that Theophano and John Tzimiskes, the handsome and charismatic nephew of Nikephoros, became lovers in the late 1960s. Together, they conspired together to depose Nikephoros and place John on the throne, almost definitely with Theophano as empress. This was planned clandestinely in John’s home, and according to Leo the Deacon, Theophano received several warriors who she kept in a secret room near her quarters to enact the plan.
The Emperor’s assassination was eventually enacted on 10th December 969. Reportedly, Theophano pretended that she was heading out to instruct the Bulgarian princesses who had recently arrived as brides for her sons, and told Nikephoros to leave the bedchamber door open for her as she would close it when she returned. He did as she asked, making his customary devotions and falling asleep, which allowed the attackers to strike him unaware. John played a crucial role in the actual murder, striking Nikephoros on the head with his sword, though the coup de grace was delivered by one of the other conspirators, Leo Abalantes. While Theophano certainly played a vital role in the conspiracy, her direct participation in the murder itself is unknown. Later sources would dramatize her involvement: for example, Matthew of Edessa claimed that Theophano was the one who actually handed John the sword in order to carry out the murder.
Whatever her exact motivations, it’s clear that Theophano intended to orchestrate/support a new transfer of power just as she had with Nikephoros, becoming Empress for a third time. This was unprecedented across Byzantine history till that point, making her a singular figure.
However, things didn’t go as planned. John does seem to have intended to marry Theophano, and, after promising to ensure the safety and status of Romanos’ young sons as co-emperors, gained local support. However, when he went to St Sophia to be crowned, the patriarch refused him entry and presented him with three conditions: Theophano had to be banished from the palace and Constantinople, the murderer of Nikephoros had to be dealt with, and the measures taken against the church by Nikephoros had to be revoked. John, who keen to establish his own position and absolve himself from any blame, agreed or was forced to agree to these demands.
Theophano was thus sentenced to exile to the island of Prote or Prokonnesos. She didn’t accept her fate quietly: according to Skylitzes, she actually managed to escape from Prokonnesos and reappeared in the capital Constantipole, seeking refuge in the Hagia Sophia. However, she was forcibly removed by Basil the Nothos, who sent her to a newly created monastery of Damideia in distant Armenia. Before this, she was granted the request of an audience with the Emperor and her former lover John, which was not peaceful. Theophano reportedly “insulted first the emperor and then Basil [her son], calling him a Scythian and barbarian and hitting him on the jaw with her fists”. Her activities during her years-long exile are otherwise unknown.
After John’s death in January 1976, Theophano’s sons recalled their mother to the palace. She resumed her rightful position as empress, and since her elder son Basil never married, she would have remained the senior Augusta and most important imperial woman throughout her life.
Georgian sources indicate that Theophano also resumed her role as a prominent political figure, directing negotiations to broker an alliance with the Georgian overlord David of Taiq to counter a revolt by the general Bardas Skleros against her sons. She was also a generous patron and seems to have been partially responsible for supporting the foundation of the ‘Iviron’ monastery on Mt Athos reserved for monks of Georgian nationality.
However, Theophano vanishes from historical records after 978. It’s unknown if she died, retired, or if evidence for her activities has simply been lost across time.
All in all, Theophano seems to have been a fascinating woman who lived a full and sensational life. In many ways, she still remains a question mark, as very few primary sources survive to document the reigns of Romanos, Nikephoros, or the early years of her sons in detail. The majority of her daily activities, motivations, and even her ultimate fate, all remain unknown. But while this could have enhanced the effect of intrigue that already surrounds her, it seems to have had the opposite effect. Despite her controversial career, colourful romantic life, recorded influence over the court and affairs of state, and undeniable impact on the trajectory of the Byzantine Empire, Theophano remains a frustratingly unknown and often forgotten figure in most general histories of the dynasty.
She is also one of the most viciously maligned women in Byzantine history, vilified and scapegoated by contemporaries and historians as a wicked seductress, decadent intriguer, and violent murderess. Ultimately, we'll never know if Theophano was motivated by survival, desire, ambition, a combination of the above, or something else altogether. What we do know, however, is that she seems to have been a particularly strong-willed individual capable of navigating manifold realms of power despite not being born into it, and surviving the turbulent reigns of no less than six emperors. We can also appreciate how, in many ways, it was Theophano who seems to have gotten the last laugh: she outlived all her opponents and played a vital role in safeguarding the rights of her eldest son Basil II, who would go on to become the longest-ruling Roman Emperor.
In conclusion - she was fantastic and I love her.
