Lego Batman Family Matters truly has the best Bruce and Jason reconciliation scene I have seen in a DC property.
For up: Jason didn't die, he ran away because he didn't like how much authority Bruce held over him. By this point he already is Red Hood, kidnapped the family members minus Bruce into the BatCave.
Right now, him and Bruce are alone in the Wayne Enterprises building, had pretended to be Batman when Two Face wanted both Bruce Wayne AND Batman. Bruce didn't ask him to do it, Jason just followed him and took over. And now the AI created by WE, that Bruce couldn't care less about, is about to blow up the whole city.
Bruce: What makes a family great isn't leaving and starting over. It's learning to stick together, especially in the tough times. I owe you both an apology. You have the ability to be heroes. And I'm sorry if my selfishness got in the way of that.
AI: [...] Apology accepted.
Jason: Oh man, that was close.
Bruce: Jason, I meant what I said. I never meant to hurt you.
Jason: That means a lot. ... I'm sorry for running away
Bruce: Just promise me you'll never do it again
Jason: I promise
Bruce: Now, how about we go home
Jason: Great idea
A Lego movie that is less than 1½ hours long did what the comics couldn't

Hot take but the 2019 Family matters LEGO Batman movie wrote Jason better and more authentic than whatever dc has been doing to his character for the last 10 years🙏
Tumblr media
Yeah his backstory being upset at Bruce over a video game is childish (also really funny) but then Bruce showing Jason he’s always cared for him outside of him being Robin by always keeping an eye on him with his very own satellite every single day was so sweet and has to be the most wholesome interaction they’ve had since his Robin years. (Aka in the last 40 years)
And then Bruce finally accepting Jason and playing the video game together that ruined their relationship in the end. Dc could never come up with this brilliant writing .
(But minus points for making Jason hate school, and not doing his Robin justice)

God, I first saw this movie almost three years ago, and I still think about it so much. I can’t help but cackle every time I see it!
LEGO DC Batman: Family Matters (2019)
The popping sound, the hair, Damian’s confusion, the silent record scratch you can just feel, Jason’s voice crack as he goes (°0°), the fact that the plot twist for once is that Jason never actually died! I just- it’s the best scene of the movie
(the second best [series of] scene[s] is Jason stealing Bruce’s tires [again] and Batman having to hitchhike with a random civilian)
But seriously, watch this movie if you like Batfamily content and shenanigans. It may not be the most canon compliant (UtRH is a little too dark for a direct-to-dvd lego movie for kids), but I still love these silly little lego vigilantes. And this is one of the closest iterations we’ll ever get to all of them being on the screen (Alfred, Bruce, Kate, Barbra, Dick, Jason, and Damian).

So I was scrolling through YouTube shorts (as you do) and came across a comment on one that said "Tim isn't in any of the DC Lego movies >:(" which didn't seem right to me because he's clearly the Robins in my Lego Batman games, it says so in the paper booklet that came with the first (do you remember those?)
So obviously I went onto IMDb (as one does) to figure out if he actually WAS in any of them and he is! In exactly one of them. And Lego Damian exists! Yippee! That explains why Lego Tim has the Red Robin costume but is still called Robin in the second Lego Batman game. He (Lego Damian) is Robin when Lego Jason shows up in one of the Lego DC movies, but Lego Tim isn't in that one (because he's in a different one)
So I decided that Lego Tim is obviously out on a mission with Young Justice and missing out on all the drama back home in Gotham and comes back with some Lego Starbucks to a new older brother and a lot of interesting gossip
Does this affect anything for anyone who's only interested in comics canon? No. But it's really fun to think about the alternate timelines and what happens in them
Edit: I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT LEGO BATMAN 2 ROBIN ITS FCKN DICK?!?! WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE IT TO THE RED ROBIN COSTUME AND DICK?!?!

Gotta say, I do enjoy how in Lego DC Batman: Family Matters that Harvey is basically like, "Bruce, I want you to be a more responsible person and a better friend and family member or I'm going to kill you. >:[ "
Like, Harveys that are just like... PAINFULLY nice are somewhat of a rarity, but it's always delightful when they pop up!

Every now and then I think about how in LEGO DC Batman: Family Matters they kinda insinuated that Tim is just like dead or something.
They somewhat establish the in universe Bat family via Robin (Damian) talking about the suit displays in the bat cave. He’s pointing out Batman, Nightwing, asking who an unknown suit belongs to. It was Jasons, it’s a Lego red hood movie after all. During this whole scene even Tim gets name dropped.
This one scene, one sentence, a handful of seconds of screen time on a suit display is the only time Tim is so much as acknowledged in the entire movie. Which would not be that bad, it’s a Jason focused movie. At most Tim would be a supporting character if he was in it. This on its own is not what insinuates that something has happened to Tim what is said later is.
The actual reason this one detail is so important is in the end portion of the movie all the Bat family cast members gather together, Batman, Red Hood, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Batwoman, and if I’m remembering right even Alfred. Barbara then proceeds to say something about how everyone is together. With extra emphasis on it being everyone, like “wow Jason’s back and now the whole Bat family is together again!” kind of scene.
Notice an alias missing from the list? There’s no Red Robin. Tim was established to exist, they emphasize everyone was there, Tim is still not there. This leads to some potential conclusions.
One Tim is dead. Two he is retired from Bat life thus not part of the Bat family. Three Babs doesn’t know about Tim (no one corrected her so unlikely). Or four Tim got the home alone/middle child treatment and everyone just forgot about him.
Personally I to imagine they just forgot about him and he’s just in the manor drinking Zesti unaware that everyone else is off saving Gotham because they didn’t wake him up before leaving.

Lego Batman: Family Matters has given us a continuation in which Gamer!Jason is canon.
The POTENTIAL, people, the potential.
I bet he has his own customized controller that no one else is allowed to touch.
How many controllers has he broken?
Has he old let's plays on his old YouTube channel from when he was a teen?

Read your last answered ask and HOLY SYMPHONY, YES, thank you for saying out loud, I never understood why fans needed the wholesome/american smalltown core batfamily trope; literally what drew me into batman and the robins was the fact that they were all so many different kinds of broken, they started to feel so real, so human that I could relate.
I don't know why people are so keen on losing this over some romcom moments.
Being totally honest, I'm not opposed to the phenomenon in and of itself. I would even encourage it in other circumstances. Like let's be honest, every fandom which is bigger than a handful of people has its own "house of happiness" fanfictions, its coffee shop AUs, a/b/o, soulmate fics, high school AUs and so on.
"What if these characters were all happy and loved each other and there were no problems or controversies" is part of the fandom ecosystem. What if they were in high school worrying about finals instead of getting brutally murdered by giant man-eating monsters. What if they met in a cafe instead of being doomed by the narrative into killing each other. What if one coughed up flowers for refusing to acknowledge their own feelings. You know, the usual fandom stuff.
The thing with the DC fandom specifically is how inescapable the "wholesome/american smalltown core batfamily trope" is. There is no tag you can filter or avoid, it doesn't matter how many people you block, how well you curate your fandom experience, you WILL be bombarded by Tired Sitcom Dad Bruce & His Troublemaker But Loving Kids & Their Wholesome Grandpa who bakes them cookies and tucks them to bed. We're talking lore-breaking, characters assassinating, Would Never Fucking Happen stuff here, and it's as inescapable as taxes when it comes to the DC fandom. I don't mind this kind of thing when I can avoid it, but when it comes to Bat-stuff it's omnipresent.
Was it only that I would still tolerate it though. Because the real reason why I am so pissed at that load of bull is the fact that people act like it's canon, or are genuinely actively convinced it is indeed canon, and more often than not bash actual canon Batman comics for being "too dark" and for not having stories that follow their fucking wholesome/american smalltown core batfamily trope.
"But Zero what about Wayne Family Adventures" WFA was created by people who had those headcanons, started out as an independent creation, and then DC picked it up. It is its own little universe and it has no bearings with the main canon continuity. Using WFA as an excuse to act like the wholesome batfamily bullshit should be the only canon that counts is the same as acting like the whole DC world should be made of blocks because LEGO DC is a thing.
Like I personally loathe WFA and will unfollow people who post it untagged, but it does have its place. Hell, even Fear & Hunger has its own canonical(ish) high school AU! There is nothing wrong with this stuff and I will advocate for its rightful place in fandoms, however I need to be able to block it, and I need people to stop acting like the dark, complex, controversial, CANONICAL version of the characters shouldn't exist, and the sanded down, cute & easily palatable (mutilated, deprived of everything that makes these characters interesting) version is the only one that should be around.

yes
categorically yes
he is loved by a good chunk of the hero world to the point where he actively got asked to be the leader of the new justice league (which is just the titans) by superman and wonder woman
so many people idolise him, given he was the original sidekick and then went on to be his own hero
tldr yes, dick grayson is very well liked by honestly the majority of heroes, some antihero’s, and even some villains
i want to give a special mention to midnighter, who is awesome btw, and calls dick his nemesister which i love so much
Tumblr media
shoutout to midnighter for this honestly
So... does anyone in canon DCU really like Dick Grayson? I'm receiving mixed signals from some tumbler posts

LEGO DC Batman: Family Matters (2019)
I mentioned this being my second favorite gag from this movie in this post.
My third favorite gag is definitely Dick and Barbra arguing about how Dick is terrible at communicating. Like, dad-texts levels bad

watched two lego batman movies and i liked the "lego batman movie"(2017) better than the "lego dc batman: family matters"(2019)
Tumblr media
this dick grayson is the most adorable heartwarming creature i will protect him forever💟this movie was pretty enjoyable in general and i liked the moral they were trying to go for, not perfect but pretty good🙏🏼
the second movie however...i did enjoy bruce/batman characterization and his little character development, alternative jason todd backstory and WILL FRIEDLE VOICING NIGHTWING???? ARE YOU KIDDING I LOVE THAT MAN HE VOICES BUMBLEBEE IN TFP TOO
but dickbabs???? (btw rule of thumb: if it has dickbabs in it, the characterization of dick and/or babs will be off) DAMIAN??? WHO IS NOT EVEN ACTING LIKE HIMSELF AT ALL???? AND WHY IS HE VOICED BY TEEN TITANS DICK GRAYSON ROBIN VOICE ACTOR also WHERE is tim😭 oh and back to nightwing: hes supposed to be in blüdhaven what is he doing in gotham(maybe hes visiting but they could have mentioned that like for example grayson saying "oh yeah im just visiting the fam and shit just happened to go south right when i got here lol" SOMETHING LIKE THAT)
and babs being jealous of starfire💀i had to genuinely take a minute to think after that because. huh. what do you MEAN ugh it annoyed me so badd
ANYWHO i had fun!!! moral of the story, 2017 lego batman movie is cool, dickbabs ruins everything, will friedle as nightwing is the most incredible thing ever

How nice! In Lego DC Batman: Family Matters, while Two-Face thinks that they're a B list villain, Harvey thinks that they're A list! Maybe A- on a bad day. That's confidence/support for your evil headmate right there!
... Maybe I ought to start making a list of these... >.>
