Shopkeeper’s Wares (Wally Lee/Howdy Ler)
Hey guys, taking the teeniest break from South Park to bring you some Welcome Home stuffs :> this is mostly for my gorgeous girlfriend @nnainai this is her latest hyperfixation and I wanted to try my hand at it. This is for you sweetheart I love you so much you’re the Eddie to my Frank <3 together forever <33
Just a reminder I know next to nothing about this fandom! If i get a certain interaction wrong or if something doesn’t follow the fanon, I apologize! :)
WARNING: Kinda scary twist at the end. And tickles!
Wally is in need of new paints and Howdy has everything he needs at his store! Wally just needs to pay the price!
                                     ```````````````````````````````````````````````````
 With a hop, skip, and a jump, a colorful character found himself at the door of Howdy’s Place; the best and only place in the neighborhood to get your wares. Fruit bins lined up the side of the shop; the produce glistening in the perfect sun. With a jingle above the door signaling his entry, a green-skinned character turned around from his countertop. The green shop-keeper greeted the newcomer with four arms.
 “Well, good morning to you, Wally! How can I help you today? I see you’ve been painting last night!” Howdy Pillar smiled down at Wally Darling, a charismatic yellow character with a feline grin. Wally’s yellow fingers were stained blue at the tips.
 “Mornin’ to you, Howdy! I just need to replenish my paints, is all.” That’s all Wally needed to say before Howdy turned around and started fixing up Wally’s groceries. “Seems I used a little too much blue last night! Painting Barnaby takes up a lot more paint on the canvas than I thought.”
 “Oh! Painting Barnaby, are we? Well, you are best friends after all! If I knew anything about painting, well I’d certainly paint my best friend as well!” Howdy turned around to face Wally, the sun filling up the humble shop with golden rays.
 “Yes! It’s his birthday coming up, and I thought it would be just the most perfect painting to hang in his living room, or would he prefer his bedroom? I’d just be happy to see his face when he unwraps his gift.” Wally smiled at Howdy as the shopkeeper handed him his grocery bag; a cute design painted on the side with a caterpillar waving goodbye on an apple.
 “Any present from you is a present indeed, Wally! There’s blue paint in there as you’ve requested, and I threw in some apples for you. I know they’re your favorite!” Howdy clanked some keys in his ‘cash’ register as Wally peered inside the bag to inspect the contents.
 “Well that’s mighty fine Howdy, thank you! I do appreciate a friend like you, I do. What do I owe you? How ‘bout a joke?” Before Howdy could answer, Wally leaned up against the countertop.
 “So Howdy, did you hear about the child who ate a caterpillar?” Wally began, Howdy putting one hand up to his mouth.
 “Well I can’t say I have! What happened to him?” Wally was already snickering, he was terrible at finishing jokes.
 “Hehe! He got butterflies in his stomach! Teehee- hehehee!” Wally started giggling, as did Howdy. Howdy noticed that he hasn’t seen Wally laugh too much. Smiling sure, but not laughter.
 Wally wiped away a tear as he sagged against the countertop. “Ahhh, well, how was that Howdy? You want another one for the apples?” Howdy brought up his four arms and shook them gently.
 “Oh no no, thank you Wally! That was a good one! I haven’t heard that one before. The register is asking for another form of payment, however.” Wally scratched his head as he swiped a peek at the register. It was blank, mostly for show.
 “The register, huh? Well, what’s it asking for? I’d be happy to help!” Wally narrowed his eyes in his wide, cat-like smile.
 “Well you see Wally, the register is asking for some laughter. It’s been running low as of late, so it’d be mighty swell if you could refill it for me!” Wally set his bags down to the floor and had a helpful face on.
 “Of course Howdy, I’d be more than happy to help you! How do we do it?” Wally watched with a close eye as Howdy crossed the counter and stood before Wally at his full height. Wally didn’t suspect anything amiss.
 “Uhh- well you see! Just go ahead and spread your arms and we’ll get started!” Howdy hasn’t tried this with any other neighbor, in normal circumstances the joke would have sufficed as payment. But Howdy was incredibly curious about Wally’s laughter.
 “Now you’ve got me curious, Howdy! I’ve never seen a payment method like this before in your- shohohop! Tehehehee! Hehehey!” With Wally’s arms spread wide and Howdy behind him, Howdy started scritching Wally’s sides as gently as he could muster with all four arms. But despite the gentle touches, Wally had quite the reaction.
 “I sure am sorry I wasn’t more clear with you, Wally! I didn’t know if you would agree to a payment method like this or not! But I was too curious about what your laughter sounded like! I hope you can understand.” Wally’s arms started faltering and collapsing in on his sides.
 “It’s- It’s okahahay! I’m hahahappy to hehehelp- hehehehee!” Wally’s laughter went along with his voice, maybe a touch higher. The stream of giggles he let out were consistent, not interrupted by a hiccup or a breath in between. It was a delight to hear, almost musical. As expected of the neighborhood’s brightest neighbor.
 “Now now, we can’t have your laughter interrupted! We need to keep those arms up!” With a little assistance, Howdy used two of his helpful hands to lift Wally’s arms up and out of the way. The steady flow of tickles delivered to Wally’s sides made the character squeal.
 “Eek! Ohoho goohoodness mehehe!” Wally’s shoes clapped the floor of the shop as Howdy’s hands started kneading a bit in Wally’s sides.
 “Sorry about this Wally, the register has gone without laughter for a while now! We wouldn’t want it to go running dry on us, now would we?” Wally was sure that Howdy was making up this ‘register’ narrative as they went along, but couldn’t really do anything to stop it.
 “I-I suhuhuppohohose nohohohot!” Howdy’s hands had grown a little adventurous, venturing down to scribble over Wally’s tummy with one hand and sneaking another hand up over where his ribs should be. Wally’s laughter grew more musical as time went on.
 Howdy glanced down to Wally’s clenching hands and noticed his stained blue fingertips.
 “Well, would you look at that! We can’t be having one of our residents not looking his best, now can we?” Howdy reached into his back pocket with one of his free arms and pulled out a feather duster. The shopkeeper began dusting the paint off of Wally’s fingers, which was surprisingly ticklish.
 “Ehehehehee! I wahahasn’t ehehexpecting thihihis to behehee so tihihickly!” Wally tried to explain through his laughter, but Howdy could barely understand him.
 “Hmm? What’s that now, Wally? I’m afraid you’re laughing too much for me to understand you! If only you could speak a bit more clearly!~” Howdy was always helping his patrons in his shop, which was his favorite hobby! But he did miss out on a few things, such as Wally’s darling laughter. Apparently teases worked very well against the brightest neighbor in the neighborhood.
 “Pfft- tehehehee! Nohohow stohohop thahat! You knohohow what you’re dohohoing!” Wally challenged. Howdy used both hands to scribble up in Wally’s armpits now, which made the yellow character’s hair bounce. Howdy had switched hands that was holding the feather duster and began cleaning off Wally’s other set of fingers.
 “What is it that I’m doing, Wally? I’m merely collecting laughter for the cash register! You can’t walk out of the store without properly paying, I’m afraid!” Howdy was having a spot of fun, but he could see Wally was nearly at his limit.
 “Wehehell hohohow muhuhuch left is thehere to cohohollect?!” Wally laughed out, but Howdy noticed a weird twinge to Wally’s laughter. It had grown...dark. Like a second voice added to his original. Howdy let go of Wally suddenly.
 “I um- I think that should be enough. Thanks for being a good sport about it, Wally.” Howdy’s hands tensed as Wally had his hands on his knees and caught his breath. Howdy suddenly felt a chill in the air in his humble shop. Wally’s hands were balled in the material of his pants, or that’s what Howdy could see as Wally had his back turned to him.
 “...Wally? Are you okay? Did I go too far?” Howdy took a step toward Wally as the yellow character stood up fully. He had wiped away a black fluid from the corner of his eye. A tear? Why was it-
 Wally’s face turned to look at Howdy Pillar over his shoulder, a face of darkness, disdain, and a furious glance in his eye. Howdy’s words were caught in his throat-
 “We-hell, that’s no problem, Howdy! I sure am glad I got to help out you and the register! If you ever need help refilling the register with laughter, just ask next time! I’d be happy to lend a hand!” Wally turned fully towards Howdy; his face the perfect picture of happiness and contentment. Howdy swallowed before nodding, and forcing a smile on his face.
 “Y-Yes...of course! Thanks again for paying in full, Wally, and good luck with that painting!”
 Wally bid Howdy goodbye, every scrap of darkness and danger cleaning up immediately. As Howdy set himself behind his counter again, he rapped the countertop with his knuckles nervously. The bittersweet feeling of tickling Wally Darling without his permission, but not knowing entirely of everything that made Wally to be what he was, itched the back of the shopkeepers mind.
I'm a fan of Namor's lack of understanding & patience with doors and passageways of the surface world in these early days, his total disregard for these structures is endearing to me, let us not ignore how he is dressed while destroying everything around him, simply fascinating to contemplate
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have this theory that in the early days Namor is more used to the life under water and its vast open spaces, even the palaces there are spacious and open, so these tiny doors and passageways must really look like a nuisance for him, unnecessary devices/structures constantly in his way and that's why he ignores them
First I was going to erase the words inside the balloons since what I'm trying to highlight is Namor's manners, but I refuse to erase his over the top arrogance, it's so amusing
From Daredevil #7 (1965) - I'm enjoying reading early Namor, thanks @comicavalcade!
Of the three brothers, Tommy and Arthur are the most affected by the war, than John, that we can see, because SK focused more on the two of them and not so much on John.
But we can also see the violence in him, how he enjoys cutting people's eyes, and he loves to fight. He has no problem cheating on Esme with other women, he doesn't feel guilty, and he started, along with Lizzie, the war with the Changrettas, precisely because of his ex. After the tragedy, he did not feel guilty, and instead of accompanying Tommy, what he did was provoke him.
Likewise, sometimes he had good intentions, and although the relationship with Esme could be a little toxic, I really liked them both.
Tumblr media
Arthur is the most affected, of the three, by the violence that he carries inside, from killing the poor boy, and every time they fought, a wild animal that he carries inside would come out. One of the stories that I liked the most in the show was the one between Arthur and the boy's mother. It was shocking and we were able to see up close how the Shelbys affect people, forever, because that mother will never be able to get over losing her son and in that way.
Also the relationship with Linda, at the beginning, we see a woman with good intentions, a Catholic woman, who is sure that she will be able to heal Arthur, and get the violence out of him, by the end of the relationship, we see that it was Arthur the one who changed Linda, bringing her darkness to the surface. From a loving relationship, to a toxic relationship with physical and verbal violence. In the end Linda had no other solution than to point a gun at her husband, wishing for his death.
Tumblr media
And then there's Tommy, the war continued on his mind, so much so that he could hear the shovels on the wall. He used the drug to silence his mind, but he still couldn't. A man who is not afraid of death, because he is already dead, and has no reason to live, lives because he doesn't care. Violent like his brothers.
Until he meets Grace, and she changed his life. I really like how Steven Knight and Cillian Murphy talk about Grace, saying that "she is Tommy's savior, even though he doesn't deserve it". "He felt like he was healing with her." Neither the drug nor the family, nor any other woman, could achieve, what she achieved, give him a little of the peace that Tommy had lost in that war. She silenced his demons, he didn't hear the shovels on the wall and he could finally sleep, if she was by his side.
I think she's the only one who reached that point, because neither Esme nor Linda managed to reach that high point with John and Arthur. Tommy did feel, for a short time, what it means to be a normal man again, what it means to have peace of mind.
Tumblr media
But she died and so died his peace and the only humanity he had left. Her death was a trauma even greater than the war. Because where the shovels were on the wall, it was now replaced by the sound of Grace's last breath. And sometimes his hallucinations. And that's when we see how little by little he becomes more violent and more toxic.
He marries again, and his marriage is quite similar to that of Arthur and Linda.
Lizzie, like Linda, have the fantasy that they can change them, they believe they are saviors, but it is a fantasy, it is a lie, that they tell themselves, in order to stay in that marriage and for it to make sense. At the end of both marriages, it was them, Tommy and Arthur, who changed them, bringing the darkness they always carried inside to the surface. .The two, at some point in their marriage, ended up pointing a gun at their husbands. That's how dark and toxic the two marriages became.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I believe that we can see the traumas of the three brothers through their marriages. And I think that for Tommy, the death of Grace, and for Arthur, the death of John, were the traumas that led them to increase and worsen the first one, the war.
