Text for Malin Akerman (@malinakerman): Dear Malin, "I just want to say, I really enjoyed your character Lara Axelrod in Billions—top-notch acting. I watched all the episodes up until season five, back in 2022. I haven’t watched seasons six and seven yet, but I will when I find the time. That show is so well-written—kudos to the screenwriters, they did an amazing job." Angelo (Crown Prince)

amount i care about/like billions characters as of the end of s1 (but also not without influence from what i know happens later on):
the financial side
bobby axelrod: 4/10 he does some nice things every once in a while but thats because you have to be up his goddamn ass. literally the only way this man knows how to show any “compassion” at all is money. axe i hate to break it to u but theres More To Life Than Money. he has three goddamn emotions: anger, dick measuring time, and money.
dollar bill: 2.5/10 gotta respect him in that scene where he fucks over both his families at the drop of a hat for axe, and the line about being able to afford a 3rd family is fucking hilarious.
wags: 1.5/10 eh hes around. body sushi was funny i guess.
wendy rhoades: 5/10 would like her more but its tempered with the fact that i know how much she fucks over taylor later on. one of the most sympathetic mains so far. maggie siff is a good ass actor. her face as she realizes chuck stole info from her is Amazing.
lara axelrod: 5/10 i dont like her but i like her as a character. trying to protect her family at all costs. trying to beat some goddamn senses into her piece of shit rich kids.
donnie caan: 5/10 gotta also give him respect for spending his last months on earth just fuckin with a guy. i mean he wanted to see his family well off when he was gone which is reasonable.
dudley mafee: 7/10 give him a break. please,,,,,,, watching s1 has made me appreciate how much more love mafee gets at tmc later on. axe fires him to prove something to himself and minutes later is just like “aww man cmon u know u cant trust me when i do something like that” STOP FUCKIN WITH MAFEE DUDE.
ben kim: 7/10 give him more scenes. the one where he comes into the bathroom jammin to some music is great. wags can fuck off with the sTeP tHe FuCk Up BeN kIm. stop being mean to my boy. hes trying his best and he deserves better than everyone else at axe cap.
that random woman june who tried to publish a chapter in her book Exposing Axe: 5/10 fucking get him!! but also she’s a rich bitch who had a meltdown about her son not getting into yale or whatever and was sad about having to sell her yacht.
the legal side
chuck rhoades: 4/10 he tries to be a good guy but hes a giant fuckin hypocrite. maybe dont be a goddamn lying snake liar for once in your life bud. ex: takes a peak at wendy’s confidential patient files to get info on something illegal axe did and totally fucks over wendy in the process. he does makes some pretty baller moves though, which is fun to watch go down. please stop showing me bdsm scenes with him. rooting for him over axe but really they both suck ass.
bryan connerty: 6.5/10 he’s actually a decent guy, really honestly trying his best. tries not to be a goddamn hypocrite like chuck. maybe im biased because he was cool in daredevil but this guy is alright.
kate sacker: 6.5/10 i hope she becomes the president, i honestly kinda space out during the law scenes no matter what but from what i remember she seemed pretty decent.
ari spyros: -1000000/10 ill kill him with my own two hands. everything about him is so terrible.
still in school (?) but probably kicking ass
taylor mason: 1000000/10 come on show up. please i beg u. im DYING here. i need someone i care about to be on screen or else im just playing sudoku on my phone the entire eps.
winston <lastname>: 1000000/10 i know ur out here in the billions world just hanging around. at this point ur also prob in college but who knows. we certainly dont how old winston is or how long it is between s1 and s3 when he shows up.
#teresa liveblogs billions#billions#this is a weird rating because amount i care about and amount i like a character are very different#and amount i like a character as a character is also different#but im shoving them all into one rating#loud shrug emoji#ONTO SEASON TWO#TAYLOR MY LOVE IM COMIN WAIT FOR ME#been listening to a lot of hadestown ok#also as of the last eps of the last season#chuck post s1 and chuck post s4 are in the EXACT same position again skldfs#and he and axe are STILL trying to take each other down#truly the only thing that has happened on this show in these next 3 seasons is taylor showing up#bobby axelrod#wendy rhoades#chuck rhoades#dollar bill stearn#fuck if i remember wags full name#wags#lara axelrod#donnie caan#dudley mafee#ben kim#bryan connerty#kate sacker#ari spyros#taylor mason#winston billions#my posts

Billions Season 4 Trailer - Billions Season 4 premieres Sunday March 17th on Showtime. When everyone is out for revenge, no one is safe. This is never more true than in season four of BILLIONS. Bobby Axelrod (Lewis) and Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti), former enemies, and Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), the chief counselor to each, have come together to form an uneasy but highly effective alliance, aimed at the eradication of all their rivals, including Grigor Andolov (guest star John Malkovich), Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon), Brian Connerty (Toby Leonard Moore) and Waylon "Jock" Jeffcoat (guest star Clancy Brown). Ambition and betrayal have long been at the heart of BILLIONS, and this season all the characters find out exactly how high a price they'll have to pay to satisfy those needs.

How ‘Billions’ Became One TV’s Best Shows
I was ready to write Billions off as a loss. Debuting last year, Showtime’s high-profile financial thriller boasted an impressive cast, helmed by Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis in the dueling roles of U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and billionaire hedge-fund genius Bobby Axelrod. The writing, led by co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, combined obvious affection for the setting with a gimlet eye for its excesses and crimes (not to mention its denizens’ penchant for comparing themselves to movie gangsters at any given opportunity). But for all that, the combination never quite clicked. The power plays that gave the show its most exciting moments were so fast and furious that character got lost in the shuffle, and Chuck and Bobby’s rivalry, while carefully balanced in terms of audience sympathy, never quite attained the Ahab vs. Moby Dick “from hell’s heart I stab at thee” vibe it demanded.
Then along came Season 2 and, to be blunt, holy shit. Starting with a season premiere that saw it leap straight off the blocks, Billions became one of the most consistently, raucously entertaining shows on television. The war between Bobby and Chuck enlisted a growing cast of characters in its most exciting battles yet, under the eyes of an all-star lineup of directors including Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale), John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood), Karyn Kusama (Girlfight), Noah Emmerich (The Americans), Alex Gibney (Going Clear), Ed Bianchi (Deadwood), and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (the upcoming Captain Marvel). The dialogue was drum-tight and laugh-out-loud funny, the suspense sequences white-knuckle stuff, and the moments of pathos all the more compelling for the show’s general disinterest in pulling at your heartstrings when it could make your heart pound instead. All in all it’s a textbook case of a second-season turnaround, right up there with critics’ darlings The Leftovers and Halt and Catch Fire.
What the hell happened?
Good question! I did my best to answer it for Decider.

notes on philip’s last name: scooter pronounces it “charr-in” (first syllable rhymes with “car”) in 6x05, and tuk pronounces it the same way in 6x09. wendy and chuck pronounce it “chair-in” (first syllable rhymes with “share”) in 7x07. not sure if we’re supposed to assume the rhoadeses are saying it wrong — chuck likely only heard his name from wendy, which makes it more plausible that it’s a deliberate mistake — or if the cast and writers forgot the original pronunciation between seasons. (lara’s name was pronounced “larr-a”, at least by damian lewis, in the pilot, and “lair-a” forever after, so “we forgor :(” is certainly a possible explanation for the change.)
