on one hand, I think it'd be wild if, say, Anet finally answered the question of what happened to the 'real' Dessa and Arkk by throwing them into the wizard sky civilization where they can study fractal islands to their heart's content.
on the other, I think it'd be a lot more likely to finally find out who the heck Marjory's mysterious informant "Mister E" is after all these years of having literally no idea who they are or where the heck they're getting their intel or why they're so secretive about their identity.

wanted to do a physical timeline for my commander and highlight how he’s changed through the years. this is mostly for my own entertainment BUT I do enjoy seeing the same thing from other folks so I’m posting it here in the hopes that other people share my sentiment.
(I was ALSO totally inspired by @/manasurge’s hair timeline. it kicks ass. go look at it.)
elaboration/rambling below the cut!
Personal Story, LW1-2: Popped out of the pod blunt, solicitous, and already maybe a little too paranoid for someone who was born yesterday, but all those traits made him uniquely qualified for a position in military leadership.  Healthy and floral, soft aspen-bark-like skin, delicate petals. black anthers produce pollen. undergoes more fashion changes than physical transformations during this time. gets a little banged up here and there (and maybe has some lasting respiratory effects from the toxic alliance era) but overall feelin a-okay.
Heart of Thorns: it’s all gone to shit. took a spectacular headdive in both a physical and mental sense with breakneck speed. never “officially” answered mordremoth’s call, but anyone who spent time around him would notice a distinct lack of self control and logical thinking. took on a more sickly pallor, stress caused leaves to shrivel, rot, and decay. lost his lil flower top notch and ability to produce pollen. pupils narrowed to take on a more animalistic look, and enamel growth resulted in sharper, larger teeth. fingers also elongated into claws. never fully physically and mentally recovered from the hell jungle.
LW3: chopped off most of his leaves to encourage fresh growth. lots of physical healing during this time, though it takes quite a while for his complexion to fully recover. takes on the role of aurene’s champion with gusto. relatively unaffected by bloodstone, but feels the effects of mordremoth’s loose/uncontrolled magic deeply. continues to hear mordremoth’s “voice” and is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Path of Fire: still healing from HoT. continues to grow out his leaves. glow returns, as well as some of his eye color. likes the crystal desert, but finds the harsh, dry climate to be particularly challenging; he’s definitely more of a ‘temperate’ sylvari. does not handle dying well. death only adds to his paranoia and psychosis. has an increasingly hard time picking apart what is real and what is…. not.
LW4: let’s get ready to kill an undead lich!!!! absorbs even more magic after the death of joko and kralkatorrik, and it starts to show in a there-and-gone shimmery aura that takes on a similar appearance to ley lines. starts to suffer from migraine auras. flower top notch grows back, but stays closed and dormant. picks up a few nifty necromancy tricks from the elonians, and the tips of his fingers start to show signs of necrotic decay; all that death magic can’t be good for the complexion, can it?
Icebrood Saga: having another dragon in his head does not help his mental health in the slightest. braided leaves (courtesy of braham <3) to protect against frostbite. his ley “aura” gets more intense, hard to miss, and is a near constant. flower topnotch remains closed due to the cold weather conditions. after being shot by bangar, his wound is covered/healed by aurene’s brand. migraines increase in frequency, makes it difficult for him to focus. a bone deep exhaustion starts to set in, and more often than not, he catches himself thinking that a nice long nap underneath a blanket of snow doesn’t sound so terrible….
End of Dragons: back in a more agreeable climate, his topnotch finally blooms, but does not grow anthers or produce pollen. easily physically corrupted by void magic, and he feels soo-won’s pain and struggle deeply. the void corruption eventually shows up in the form of darkening leaves, and seeping out of his eyes/tearducts (it’s fine. don’t worry about it.). starts to incorporate chaos magic into his own necromancy practices. has a fucking terrible time in gyala delve. has a fucking terrible time saying goodbye to aurene.
Secrets of the Obscure: nothing feels entirely real to him anymore. still willing to help, to fight, but it’s done on autopilot at this point. this magical, floating palace in the sky looks and feels like a dream, with the kryptis acting as the encroaching, inevitable turn to a real, living nightmare. still uses a bit of leftover void in his magical practices, but most of the corruption has left his system. that respiratory illness he picked up back in kessex hills comes back to bite him in nayos. finally grows back his anthers, but instead of producing pollen, it's an outlet for void/magic energy.

Special skills: Has a good sense of observation and quick to react to the situation, can compose himself in many identities
Talents: Vasily could learn languages easily at a fast rate, even after getting brainwashed, he still retained those qualities within him
Shortcomings: Has frequent headaches, loses focus at times, not very confident when it comes to taking a decision, becomes absolutely dependent on his superiors
MOODBOARD:
Tumblr media
PERSONALITY:
Myers-Briggs Type: ISTP (The Virtuoso)
Is aware of his surroundings: Because of his career as a special agent, Bell conceals himself in terms of his personal life in seclusion. Even knowing he's hunted everywhere, he intelligently makes himself invisible from the outside world which makes others difficult for him to locate or recognise.
Works in solitude: Vasili/Bell has always prefered to work alone, but it doesn't mean he doesn't mind going on missions with the team. But, as his habit of being a special agent, that trait normally came from him back in his days when he worked with the KGB.
Observant and intelligent: Vasili was able to survive any sort of situation because of his good observant skills, and his capacity to act quicker. He was able to learn a lot of languages as well, and posed himself in different identities, that made it harder for the intelligence agencies to track him down.
Tumblr media
Is reserved and introverted: Bell really doesn't speak to anyone much, unless when it comes to planning or going for missions, he needs to form a sort of communication to keep it lively. He is seen being more comfortable with Mason and Woods, but never felt having a good vibe with Adler. It was odd on his part, but it was going to grow very obvious when the truth would have come closer to any minute.
BACKGROUND STORY
Bell, who first used to live under the identity of Vasili Sokolov, was born in a family who had an army background, where his mother and father, both served during the Second World War, and hearing their stories, it gave Vasili a motivation to support his parents legacy by joining the intelligence — which was the KGB, going under the codename "Crow".
THE KGB ARC [REDACTED]
When Vasili joined the organisation, he showed a remarkable performance as a special agent. Some say he was born to join the intelligence and make the country proud, or he was a gifted child who could learn anything quickly and successfully perform a mission by stealing info or destroying any plans that could harm his country, without any failure. He even pointed out possible mistakes while planning out a mission, and in the end they worked out efficiently. Alongside, he made himself a friend, whose name was Dimitri Belikov, and grew closer to each other and worked together as a team.
Sooner or later, Vasili's influence spread all around the world, especially during the Cold War, the enemies of the Soviet Union had a kill/capture on him. "Kill" because Vasili knew too much about them, and "Capture" because, they wanted him to tell everything he has with him, which likely created a risk for the KGB and they couldn't do so. With that, General Anton Charkov gave him the order to "retire" and stay hidden to protect himself along with the organisation. Disappointed, Vasili protested that it was the only thing that "kept him going", but having no choice, the agent decided to leave the KGB, under the General's orders.
PERSEUS ARC [REDACTED]
It was a matter of time, when one was going to collect him instead, realising he was now no longer affiliated with the KGB. Vasili was met with someone who called himself "Perseus", and requested him to join his alliance, since he knew about Vasili from his influence, and promised to give him full security, knowing he was hunted worldwide too. Seeing that as an opportunity, Vasili agreed to join in good terms, directly becoming Perseus's loyal agent.
As he continued his journey in the faction, he had shown his skills again which made Perseus as his most trusted agent, unlike the rest. But, at times Vasili has shown inner conflict towards his ideas. During the moment when he was explained about "Operation Greenlight" with the members, it left a strange feeling within his heart. He tried to protest, but he somehow couldn't refute his superior's words, and decided to acknowledge instead. Vasili had kept showing a remarkable performance, much to Arash Kadivar, one of the faction members, being envious of his relationship with Perseus.
Kadivar lures him to Trabzon Airport, where he takes Vasili, and explains that he didn't want any more "competition", resulting in him shooting the special agent in the car he was present in, leaving him to die and bleed alone. But, sooner or later, an attack situated on the airfield, unbeknownst to the dying Vasili who was growing unconscious every passing minute. Growing lost in his own thoughts, about Perseus that promised him to give him protection from the outer forces, but didn't recognise that his "own" people were against him too, as he questioned his existence at the same time.
SAFEHOUSE ARC
The voices echoed, and the man started to lose his breath.. until he woke up, and found himself in a strange place, where he couldn't remember anything of what happened. This is where, he encounters Russell Adler, a CIA agent who he curiously looks upon, having no idea. Unable to introduce himself, Adler briefed him about his name, being it under the codename "Bell". And this is where, all the very events of the canon game begin from here.

Lia asking her middle name in the lw3 video and guppy asking leah about her middle name and then judging her aunty for not being able to tell
Guppy keeps trying to drop hints like 'I'm named after my other auntie!' and then like 'my other auntie, Leah! You don't know the name of my other auntie?'

I think all that I would say has been said on the Waymander thing, but one thing about Commander is to me...it was never about Killing The Dragons. That was always our main goal, yes, but we were still the Commander during LW3 with the White Mantle stuff, we were still the Commander against Balthazar. The Commander, for my Commander and my story's Tyria at large, is a symbol of being united and resilient and hopeful.
Yes we killed the Dragons which no-one thought possible but we didn't do it alone, far from it. We inspired hope in a world that often struggled for it. To me, and for my boy Atlaki, we were never the Commander because we killed the Dragons, we were the Commander because of everything we did for people and the world in between those final blows.
(btw, this isn't meant as a negativity post!! I genuinely just adore the Commander as a character <3)

MY BELL OC FROM COD BLACK OPS COLD WAR!
I saw another artist make their version of Bell, so I decided to dig up my version (having just finished my 4th play-through of the game last night) and post her here! This is my first post here, and if people like it, then I might make more OC posts.
Side note that my Bell is based off of my reactions/choices in the game, so it might not be 100% realistic or canon. I’m going with the bad ending, but I shot Adler in the end.
INFORMATION:
Name: Diana Jones/Annika Nikolaevna Voronova
Languages: Russian and English
Nicknames: Nika, Di
Callsigns: Bell, as Diana.
Age: As Diane, about 35, her actual age is 23
Sexuality: Lesbian (though during the time, she couldn’t express it)
DOB: January 21st, 1958 (Another plot hole in the Vietnam false memories; she would’ve only been 10 at the time.)
POB: Volgograd, Russian SSR, Soviet Union.
Eyes: Blue-green (got an eye injury while in Perseus, making her right pupil constantly dilated)
Height: 5’7
WEAPONS
M16A1, 1911, M60, Tranquilizer Gun, MP5, Type 63, Gallo SA12, RPD, LW3 - Tundra, Pelington 703, Hauer 77, Recurve Bow, M79, War Machine, XM4, AK-47
EQUIPMENT
Knife, M67 Grenade, Tomahawk, Stun Grenade, Throwing Knife, Smoke Grenade, C4
Career information
Occupation: Perseus Operative, MI6 Agent, MACV-SOG, the latter two formerly (implanted memories)
Rank: Lieutenant in Perseus
Affiliations:
Perseus
CIA, MACV-SOG, MI6 (indoctrinated)
Annika joined Perseus relatively young, when she was 17, and quickly rose up in rank as the years gone by. She quickly earned ‘Perseus’s trust, as she was willing to do whatever it took to earn her place. They’d often have Annika undercover, performing assassinations and ‘cleaning house’ whenever necessary.
She was smart, crafty, resourceful, but she carried a lot of unbridled rage within her. Annika genuinely believed everything Perseus did was for the greater good of the USSR, which left her with no hesitation while killing whoever they told her to. Sure, you could argue that she was manipulated, but Annika didn’t really care.
Her methods were brutal yet efficient. Annika didn’t care about whatever mess she made, only getting away with it mattered (unless she was specifically ordered to make it look like an accident).
When she was 22, Kadivar shot her and left her for dead at the Trabzon airfield in Turkey. While Annika was bleeding out, Russel Adler found her half dead in the back of the car. While she was conscience, she bit, scratched, and kicked at him, until the blood loss got to her.
Annika didn’t even say a word while being interrogated and tortured. Before they brainwashed her, she even tried to bite off her own tongue. Was extremely aggressive the entire time.
(I’ll elaborate more on her story later, but this is all I have so far.)
Random thing: I don’t really understand when people ship Bell with Alder. I’ve seen them as having a bastardized father-child like connection. I could be biased, as I’m a lesbian and my Bell is 17-ish years younger than him, assuming Adler’s 40.
Personality traits:
‘Bell’ had a strong sense of loyalty before and after she got indoctrinated. She’d do anything for the people she’s close to without hesitation.
Extremely petty; would go to great lengths to give the people who wronged her hell. (Definitely isn’t a projection to how I played)
Stubborn + Contrary: Whenever someone, who isn’t a superior, tells her what to do, she would do anything in her power not to do it. However, ‘Bell’s stubbornness makes it difficult to break her.
Sarcastic:
Aggressive: Self explanatory
Immature: ‘Bell’s younger than people would expect, so she’s often labeled as immature by her teammates.
That’s pretty much all I could think now, if anyone has any questions or ideas to improve, LMK!

omg did they fix your askbox? 4, 7, 15 and optional-18 for taior ♥
apparently i get asks now?? but i don't get note notifications any more. it's a tradeoff here on this Functional Webbed Site
rambling time: (sylvari ask game)
4. How was their awakening? Did something particular happen? What's their first memory?
Given Taior was the first gw2 character I ever played, I like to think he follows a very natural, exploratory path upon awakening. The shadow of the dragon, in his dream, weighed on him as his wyld hunt in a way he didn't get to understand until much later. But the Grove, and Caledon forest, were a gentle introduction to the magical powers he'd been born with - and being born in the cycle of dawn, he quickly found himself a natural diplomat, preferring conversing over combat any day, but eventually learning to steel himself for the latter.
7. What was their first experience with other races? How did it impact them?
Between the dream and the distant interactions with local races in Maguuma (asura, hylek, some humans), he had his positivity and excitement tempered by the time he spent any significant time with non-sylvari individuals. His first real, longer term experiences with other races is primarily Forgal and Almorra, and jumping headfirst into the Vigil was certainly an experience in culture shock, leaping into charr and human affairs of which he had little knowledge. He's certainly more forgiving than some other sylvari when it comes to asura, and he remains very optimistic when he meets people - not precisely trusting but hopeful that they can work things out peacefully. As a whole, he tends to take people as individuals rather than bringing any assumptions with him.
15. What are their feelings on their race being minions of the Jungle Dragon? What's their attitude towards those who turned? How do they feel about the shift in perception of their people from other races?
Since he split off from the main story prior to learning Caithe's memories and the reveal of the dragon, he found it as much a shock as anyone as they entered Maguuma and felt the dragon's call - though the pit in his chest that he'd carried since awakening finally fell into place, an understanding of truly what the shadow of the dragon meant, what the attack on the Pale Tree meant. It's a great disappointment, a sense of failure that they have failed to overcome their nature, that all they can do - all he can do - is fulfill his wyld hunt by helping to destroy mordremoth, after which he's listless and lost without his purpose. He's away from the main plot for most of LW3, recovering in the Grove spending time with other struggling sylvari and trying to make sense of their place in Tyria. As a guardian, he also participates in attempts to heal turned and partially turned mordrem, to varying degrees of success - though he always hopes they will find some sort of peace. He takes a step back from the Pact and the Vigil, despite Almorra's insistence that he's as trustworthy as ever, and he's far more cautious in approaching people after that - no longer as open and eager to learn, carefully walling himself off out of an expectation of judgement from non-sylvari.
18. [Free space for 3 pieces of trivia about your sylvari!]
The horns develop from an over-accumulation of dragon energy, his hair fronds slowly hardening into horns but they're essentially a benign growth - he doesn't suffer any ill effects from it, and they have the same pulsing inner glow as the rest of his body.
After Mordremoth, Jormag is the dragon he was most susceptible to, and nearly fell to in Bjora Marches. The combination of the stresses from the damage against the Vigil and his already tense personal life made him especially open to Jormag's whispers.
Aurene doesn't like or trust him, both out of an overprotectiveness over her Champion, and out of a childlike distrust and jealousy because he didn't meet her until she was a "teen". They work out a balance and a tense respect by the time they end up in Cantha.

Okay. Huge Guild Wars 2 rant.
I love GW2. I was in the beta test. 3 of my characters are turning 12 real life years old this month. I have played this game for 4,310 hours (or 179.58 DAYS) of my human life. I stopped playing for a bit in the early years, but then came back with a vengeance right around the time Path of Fire was released.
I think it's a good game!!!
I loved the base game. Looking back on it now, and trying to get friends into it later, it was a bit clunky. But it was a new MMO, almost completely different from the original Guild Wars. They needed time to fine tune what they had. I mostly missed Living World Season 1, but LW2 was still very similar to the base game.
With the first expansion, Heart of Thorns, things started to change. They moved away from dungeons, they added new movement options with gliding (no more having to run around cliffs), and overall changed the feel of the game. There were still some issues (I still have trouble navigating Tangled Depths, haha), but the game was finding its stride.
LW3 was excellent. The maps are all so unique, the story more and more engaging with every release. I cannot stress how unique and amazing each map is in LW3!! They put so much care into those maps, which I think is exemplified by the extra long jumping puzzles in Ember Bay and Siren's landing. They didn't have to have such incredibly in depth puzzles showing parts of the maps we never had to see. But so much love and care and attention went into creating all of this.
Which leads to Path of Fire. To me, this is peak GW2. The most beautiful maps and most engaging story yet. The love and passion the devs feel for this game is tangible. The main NPCs are so wonderfully written. The achievements and unlocking the mounts (especially the griffon) were challenging, but it kept you so invested. Every challenge was different, and I felt like I had to keep playing because there was always something new and exciting to do. This continued on beautifully into LW4.
Then ArenaNet announced massive layoffs of the GW2 team in February of 2019. In September of that year, The Icebrood Saga began.
I felt that the writing was still pretty good here.... but the cuts were noticeable. The achievements for each map changed from being incredibly unique challenges to do this event 50 times. The maps started being released in segments instead of all at once. In Champions, they didn't even make new maps, you were just in old maps again.
End Of Dragons. Every map has the achievement touch 1 million lanterns. The maps are large, but feel so empty. New Kaineng is just nearly identical skyscrapers you need to navigate around. Echovald is large swaths of trees with nothing in them. The NPCs aren't particularly memorable. They introduce 3 factions in Echovald that just.... don't matter, and aren't very different. I am a person who loves a fishing mini game (soooo much), and I really dislike the fishing system they introduced here. And skiffs. These things were added to make it feel like more was added to the game, but they were not well thought out or polished. And the Gen 3 legendary weapons. They feel more like a Black Lion set than legendaries. Gen 1&2 legendaries were each unique, with unique animations and footprints to each one. The Gen 3s are all the same thing over and over. Oh but you can get recolors of them, so CLEARLY that makes them good lol.
And now Secrets of the Obscure. The story is oh here's secret Wizards you've literally never heard of, who are protecting the world from secret Demons you also have never heard of. The whole thing was pulled straight out of someone's ass. Like they only have 1 writer now and they're under the world's most massive time crunch. This is a paid expansion, and they released the story in parts. Frankly unacceptable. This is a LW but you need to pay money for it. One of the maps was released in THREE SEPARATE PARTS. They cut it in THIRDS and released it slowly!!!! The whole first map is reused assets again, and the last map is covered in ugly, undistinguishable textures. So many of the achievements in the last two expansions are run around and click on 1 million small things on a map. Instead of anything fun or engaging.
It is so hard to believe the drop in quality that has been happening here. Very clearly because the dev team was eviscerated. There used to be a huge team of people who loved working on this game. Now they have like 3 people who are being forced to churn out """"full expansions"""" in a year.
I haven't been able to bring myself to finish the last release of SotO yet. It's gotten depressing and frustrating to play.
Next is Janthir Wilds, and I do not have high hopes. They're doing Homesteads as the 4th type of home base they've tried to introduce to the game. They're focusing on re-releasing Warclaws, a mount that has been available for 5 and a half years.
I miss when this game was loved.
