red wine supernova
nyra has a rather fascinating stylistic choice for the biggest event in human history to date. trahearne has opinions. set post eod and pre jw. 991 words. gen.
Of course, the Empress of Cantha coming to Tyria requires a grand celebration. And it makes absolute sense, in Trahearne’s view, that Alysannyra would be the one to escort her to the royal court, as she was the one who brought contact with all human kingdoms outside of her own.
Likewise, it is reasonable that she would be delighted about it. His wife has always been a far more social creature than he, and Trahearne is eternally grateful he can hide behind her brightness when he doesn’t wish to be seen. Observing her just charm people like a social butterfly is a side benefit.
But what isn’t reasonable is her outfit for the occasion. Regal and majestic is appropriate, yet there are ways to convey the same thing without it looking wildly impractical. Alysannyra Ainsaph, however, does not seem to agree.
Alysannyra Ainsaph doesn’t seem to agree with a lot of things most people would find reasonable. That’s part of the reason why he loves her.
It doesn’t fail to make him laugh sometimes, however. She captures his gaze and asks, almost playfully, “What’s funny?”
“I am merely wondering however you’ll walk in that coat,” Trahearne shrugs, reclining against the backrest of his chair. “This isn’t a battle, and therefore you don’t need any armor. That garment feels as if it weighs as much.”
“Ask Kasmeer,” she says with a small shrug. “I can carry it.” The coat, in ermine, wraps around her broad shoulders and falls down to her calves; in truth, it feels more like a cape, deep blue to match her jacket, and the fur aims to continue the whiteness of her cravat. It’s a beautiful garment, made to impress, and it would have been a staple of a harsh winter if it wasn’t worn in springtime.
“You’ll probably be the only person wearing winter clothing there,” he replies. She stares at him for a good minute without words before she tilts her head.
“I like to stand out,” she says. The room echoes with it. “Besides, I can always take it off once the Empress is safely escorted to Jennah. Until then, I’ll be sweating away and melting everyone’s retinas with my brilliance and weirdness.”
Trahearne laughs. “Lyss, dear. You really don’t need to do any of that. All you have to do is appear. Also, what does Kasmeer have to do with anything?”
“She supports my intent,” Alysannyra puts her hands on her hips. A strand of hair falls smack on her face as she turns her head fully towards him. “She offered to put an illusion on it so it looks like it’s as big and thick, but no, I told her I would wear the real thing. She laughed.” She huffs. “Rytlock told me it’s just what being a charr is like and that I should give it a try as an Ascalonian. I asked for his conditioner.”
Trahearne rubs his one eye. “And Braham?”
“Braham said I looked like a norn. That’s a good thing.”
“I wish I could have attended that meet-up,” he says. Unfortunately, business in the Grove had kept him occupied. He rather likes Dragon’s Watch; he’s seen them have her back through thick and thin, and he finds Taimi and Gorrik in particular delightful conversationalists. In fact, last time he’d attended one of their meet-ups, he spent an entire evening chatting with Taimi about her discoveries in tech in Cantha.
That is, until the loud noise of a glass breaking against the wall interrupted them. Taimi almost fell off her chair in surprise. “Nyra! Do you mind! We were having a conversation!”
Trahearne opened his mouth to speak, but Alysannyra beat him to it. She pointed towards glass pieces on the floor, crowned in a wine stain, and said, deadpan: “Rytlock would have done it anyway. This particular wine glass is offensive to him.”
They all looked towards Rytlock, who huffed his chest. “It isn’t suited for charr paws,” he growled. “And I was in a bad mood already. Crecia’s been on my dick all week about some Blood business and now I can’t even drink properly.”
“Crecia?” Marjory snickered, unfazed. “Not Kosara?”
“Not you too, Marjory!”
“I know, I know. I am simply messing with you.”
“And I,” Alysannyra added, rubbing Rytlock’s shoulders, while Braham offered a helpful height aid, laughing all the while, “am the most generous host. Aren’t I, Brimstone? Even if my guests sometimes forget this is an Ascalonian home!”
Trahearne smiled and leaned in to whisper in Taimi’s ear. “Let’s go to the library. We’ll hear the yelling if there's a need for us.”
Gorrik nodded. “Human-charr relations are delightfully complicated,” he added. “But I’d rather talk about Canthan jade tech than glass insects. Much more interesting in my opinion.”
Of course, nobody really expected things to go sideways with the Dragonslayer around. For that trust, and that security, she is awarded additional eccentricity points.
Back in the present moment, she keeps fiddling with the fur. “You’ll be there next time,” she says and walks over to him. This time, she does not need Braham’s shoulders to stand tall, assured in her decision to wear this giant and impractical thing.
Yet her shadow isn't a bad place to be.
“Do you like the coat?” she asks softly.
“It suits you,” Trahearne replies and straightens his back. He reaches out to pull her closer; his hands rest on the backs of her thighs, and he feels her hand in his hair. “All eyes will be on you.”
“Good,” she says. “Now, this thing is fucking hot.” Her hand leaves his head to shake it off her body. It falls on the ground with a heavy thud. Trahearne rests his head on her belly and feels her fingers dig into the bark on the back of his neck.
Trahearne’s long since accepted his wife’s oddities. There are far worse places to be than Alysannyra Ainsaph’s shadow.

I gotta talk about Vanak Faithwalker, an Astral Ward charr who is part of the Amnytas Meta event. And now potentially confirmed a nonbinary character.
They have a feminine charr model, while their voice is deep and masculine, I absolutely adore how their voice sounds and how they look. I always wondered what they identified by, but there was no clues anywhere in SotO.
Video below of their voice from Amnytas Event.
But now in Janthir Wilds, we meet them again and get some confirmation via the Commander's journals.
Vanak is referred to by 'they' in the Commander's journals. As shown below. (Chapter 1 and chapter 2 journal snippets below.)

Keres Mistcleaver
Decided to consolidate my Keres post!
Keres in the Personal Story and Post-Departing/Aurene's Ascension by @inspiderwiht.
Keres ref by @ametat-arts that shows off the branding and scars! This is Keres as she is in Janthir.
Info under the cut!
She's a Necro - Reaper. Specializes in Minions. Wields a Greatsword - Caladbolg specifically. Forgal taught her to wield the greatsword while she trained with him in the Vigil.
Defeated Zhaitan on her 19th birthday.
She and Braham are friends-with-benefits for a while before they both catch feelings and then their relationship blows up after Eir's death because they're both stubborn and angry and grieving. Keres forgives all of it after her own death, which she does not tell Braham about until some time during the Kralkatorik operation. They remain close, but don't actually take any further steps in their relationship until Braham shows up at the homestead in Janthir.
As of Janthir, she's 30 years old.
