OMG! The text message isn't from Hajime - it's from AKITO!

There is an image of the text message Tohru gets (and the family gathers around to read). I always just assumed it was from Hajime because, well, Tohru's his mom. Though, I have occasionally thought that it was from Mutsuki, since we see him with his phone out recording and taking photos of Shiki making the cookies, etc. But then I really thought about the image that we are shown above the message. This image:

So, in conclusion, the text message is from Akito! I can't believe it took me that long to figure that out, lmao! But, also, that means that Tohru's whole family, Kyo included, are gathered around to read a message from Akito about something happening in Shiki's life and her life in general.

Like, how beautiful is that!? I love how, in the end, Akito ends up becoming closest with the "outsiders" of the Sohma family (and the Zodiac Cult). It's a gorgeous way to show the evolution of Tohru and Akito as foils to each other and just the parallel of how things are at the start of Fruits Basket vs how they are here at the end of Fruits Basket Another - all that growth - so precious! <3

Just a quick ficlet for kyoru week 2023 cause I wanted to write something.

It’s more of a kyoru family story. Idk the idea is cute to me lol

“Hey mom, watcha doin’?” The six-year-old questions.

The woman stops wiping the shelf. “Oh, just tidying up.”

“What’s those?” The child points to a set of DVD jackets. “Movies?”

“Sort of, they’re home movies. You know, like when we record videos on our camera? These are of events we like to keep.”

“Can we watch one?”

“Sure. Why don’t you pick?” The child picks a random disc and hands it to their mom. “Oh, this is of my graduation,” the woman reminisces as she pops it into the Blue-Ray player.

They curl up on the couch as the video rolls with mom narrating for the little girl. The video was taken when she graduated from high school and her parents held a big party at the Sohma compound. Many were there, like uncle Mutsuki and his parents uncle Yuki and aunt Machi, uncle Hatsu and aunt Rin with daughters Sora and Riku, even uncle Shiki came considering he wasn’t fond of parties. Of course, aunty Akito and uncle Shigure had to attend as the heads of the clan, but it was nice to see them since they rarely left the compound anymore. She names off the relatives as they appear on camera, often pausing to answer questions because the little girl has never met many of the older generations that have passed on.

“Who’s that next to you and papa Hajime,” the child points at the elderly couple who are standing next to her grandfather.

“That’s grandpa’s parents. They’re your great-grandparents, grandma Tohru and grandpa Kyo.”

“Oh, they look so old, but so cute still holding hands.”

The woman chuckles, “well, they are in their 80s.” She sighs, “I wish you could’ve met them. You look a little like grandma Tohru when she was a young girl.” A bit of moisture clouds her vision as she reminisces. “Lets’ see, grandma passed away about 8 years after this, and your grandpa followed a year later. My parents believed with his heart gone, grandpa didn’t have the will to keep living.”

“That’s impossible,” the child looks up at her mom with concern, “how can a heart just disappear from,” she points to her chest.

“No, not like that.” The woman laughs. “They’re talking about your great-grandmother. Grandma Tohru was his heart. Great-grandpa loved her more than anything else in this world because she saved him from the Sohma monster.”

The child turns to look at her mom again, this time with an indignant glare. “Mom,” she crosses her arms. “A monster, seriously? Monster’s aren’t real so that makes no sense.”

Before responding, the woman pauses the video and pulls her daughter onto her lap. “Have I ever told you the story of the zodiac?” The child shakes her head no. “Do you want to hear it?”

“Yes!” The little girl bounces in excitement.

The mom moves her back to the couch, gets up and goes to another room. She comes back in a couple minutes holding an old wooden box and sits back down next to her daughter. She then opens the lid to show the child the little animal figurines inside, worn with age, but still discernible for what they represent. But there was one odd piece in the box.

“Mom, why’s there a wooden rice ball with a bunch of animals?”

“I’m glad you asked,” the mom talks as she pulls out the figurines of the rice ball and an orange cat, placing it in the little girls cupped hands. “These represent your grandma Tohru,” she points to the rice ball, “and grandpa Kyo,” she points to the cat. “The rest of the animals make up the zodiac.”

The child gives her a mom a confused look which gains a chuckle from her mother.

“Don’t worry, it’ll be explained in the story.” The woman takes the figurines from her daughter, puts them back in the box, and puts the box aside. “Now where should I begin?” She thinks for a moment. “A very long time ago, there was a god…”

may have a specific preference when it comes to anime but all of these ships mean so much to me. They all embody the beauty of what love looks like. Of course there are many more that I also love but Tumblr does have a limit on how many tags I can use.

everytime i think of fruits basket i get a tight feeling in my chest. it's such a beautiful story of overcoming abuse and healing. the sohma family suffered so much, especially kyo, yuki, hatori, and rin but they never allowed it to change them into terrible people.

yuki's development is one of my favorite parts of the show. because of akito's abuse, he was always scared to be his true self. He felt like he had to be perfect and never made genuine connections, but he was finally able to break free from that thinking and find his own path.

kyo and tohru's story made such an impact on my life. kyo suffered with his guilt and feeling like an outcast his whole life while tohru had to grow up quickly putting aside her own feelings for her mother's sake. they were able to heal each other and eventually fell in love. kyo's story, in particular, makes me cry to this day. he was a boy who couldn't help what he was; he wanted to be loved and valued, and it's only until tohru honda comes into the picture that he can finally feel worthy of love.

fruits basket is incredibly heartbreaking while also beautiful. kyo, tohru, and yuki will always be my favorite characters, and i will always hold fruits basket close to my heart!

I'm gonna take a moment to yap about the rooftop confession in the penultimate chapter because almost all the comments I get on it are just people flailing incoherently. Which is appreciated of course, but I crave specificity~

Mic has just like. Speedrun the 7 stages of grief vis-a-vis Aizawa joining the final battle, so Aizawa finally getting his head out of his ass the night before armageddon (or even having any reciprocated feelings at all) is a Complete Surprise to him.

The name change from family names to given names was targeted with laser precision for maximum impact.

This is not Mic's first kiss, but it is Aizawa's, and he's pretty bad at it. But he's a quick study :^)

And lastly: it's Fruits Basket. All the way down. 14 years later, and Kyoru is still The Confession of all time. (Spoilers for a series that has been in circulation since 1998 I guess).

I alluded to this in the endnote, but so many of the emotional beats in Aizawa's confession are borrowed directly from the Kyoru confession, from Aizawa's point-blank asking if Mic is in love with him, to Mic getting overwhelmed and running away, to the emotionally dense Aizawa being the one to awkwardly try to confess his feelings. I'm pretty sure I had Desires Arise As Long As We Live from the 2019 soundtrack on repeat writing this, for extra reinforcement. (even though it's a little too sappy for most scenes, it still gets to live on my Lullabies for Insomniacs writing playlist because I will be needing it again for Kintsugi >:)))))))

I also answered that in this ask (Romantic Killer; this anime is SO good and really deserves another season!!) but I can also give another title.

Sometimes I randomly remember about Blue Period and I'm like "Hey, where is the second season?" As far as I know, the manga is still being created, so there is still a lot of material for the anime and I have to admit that Blue Period is something.

30. one anime conclusion you would change

I'm torn between Tokyo Revengers and My Hero Academia. The first one was a bit disappointing because it was way too happy enging. As much as it sounds, someone could have stayed dead or on bad terms with other characters. And with My Hero Academia, I didn't feel satisfied at all with the career Midoryia chose. I've read too many Vigilante Deku fanfics to believe he didn't try to work as a hero.

Edit: Shit, these were mangas, not anime xD My mistake So Banana Fish. Because OH COME ONNNN. It could have ended differently, happier.

My Queer Fruits Basket Headcanons

Thoughts: I feel it's very common to view Haru as bisexual in the fandom for very obvious reasons. For Ayame and Mine they give me chaotic bisexual vibes, but I can totally understand if some people view Ayame as Pansexual. That's an another queer interpretation of Ayame that I can totally understand. I also know that some people view a few other characters in Furuba as bisexual, and I can see and understand some of those as well. But these three are the main ones for me (and there is only so many characters I can fit onto one flag, lmao).

Thoughts: In one of the little messages that Takaya-sensei wrote on the side of one of the chapters (which was translated and included in the old TokyoPop manga volumes), she mentioned how Kazuma tried dating a woman once. It didn't work out and he is dedicated to Kyo and his family. Plus, maybe its just projection (since I am aroace), but Kazuma just gives off big aroace vibes to me. He doesn't seem to care about romance in the slightest, and just seems to be very happy and content with being a parent and caring for his Kyo (his son) and the other Sohma children (also, eventually, his grandchildren and Tohru).

Thoughts: There are no really thoughts here. There's nothing that really hints or even vaguely implies a pansexual reading of Momiji, it's just more how I feel like this is a sexual orientation that works for Momiji as a character. I can just easily see this for him, is what I am saying, lol.

Thoughts: Honestly, I can see both Kyo and Tohru being demiromantic as well. This may be a hot take, but I feel pretty much all Shonen Jump Battle Shonen protags are on the aspec spectrum in some way. A lot of the time, people are just like "they're dense protagonists" but an aspec reading of them really explains so much, imo. Kyo is basically a Battle Shonen protag stuck in a shoujo, so that's why I feel this way about Kyo. Tohru is very similar in a way though too. Kyo does show to be a bit more aware of sexual things in general, more so than Tohru anyway, but both are very "dense" in regards to things like this, and both of them really require a bond to form before we see them thinking about romantic and sexual things in regards to their relationship. Of course, there is a trauma element involved with all of this as well, but I don't think that negates an aspec reading of the Kyoru relationship.

Thoughts: Among fans who have read all of Fruits Basket Another, this pairing is actually fairly common and "popular." I've written posts before about the queer and romantic undertones to their interactions and the above image that I used, from the textless omake at the end of Vol. 4 of Fruits Basket Another, is basically a soft confirmation (in my eyes) that the two are a canon romantic pairing.

Thoughts: There are definitely more specific queer headcanons that you can have for all of these characters and their gender presentation, but I'm choosing genderqueer for my own headcanon because I feel it is a more simplified, umbrella-like term that can fit all of them. If you are a fan of Fruits Basket, then I feel the inclusion of Momiji, Ritsu, and Ayame are all very self-explanatory. But, I know not as many people are as familiar with Fruits Basket Another and Mutsuki, so the main reason Mutsuki is here is because of these moments from Another:

Basically, Mutsuki absolutely loves Ayame and is similar to Ayame in the sense that he is comfortable (and likes/enjoys) wearing dresses and engaging in more outwardly feminine appearances. He's nothing like Yuki in this regard and very happily states that Ayame went out of his way to make the dress (costume) that he wore for Sports Day.

These are all just my personal queer headcanons for some Fruits Basket characters and pairings. This was sort of spurred on by the recent artwork that Takaya-sensei did of Ayame for this new year (2025 - The Year of the Snake). In this new artwork, Ayame is extremely feminine looking and his queerness as a character really shines through, so it caused me to think about this headcanons again and just write this up.

Hi anon!! Yall are seriously asking me such hard questions omggg but I will try my best! I am definitely forgetting ships but I'm just gonna write down seven ships that I love in no particular order!

also: there will likely be some spoilers ahead for some of these pieces of media so tread carefully. i'll tag all the shows below too :)

bkdk (bakugo and deku, bnha) - of course. i will always and forever love them. they mean so much to me and they are soulmates to me no matter what anybody else says. i mean just look at my ao3. its proof that they are soulmates fr. anyway id say i love them because i always really related to bakugou, especially before i left for college, and i thought that his and deku's love for each other was really beautiful. they will always have a special place in my heart

kyoru (kyo and tohru, fruits basket) - they made me believe in heterosexuality again lowkey. these two will also always have a special place in my heart. i'm a huge sucker for that selfless sweetheart character being selfish just for that one like angry dude who they picked out of the rain and claimed as theirs, (see: bkdk), and kyoru is like the best manifestation of that trope. they have permanently altered my brain chemistry and cured my depression

cece and schmidt (new girl) - idk if they have a ship name. these two. what is there to say about these two. so so much. their arc and their love story means absolutely everything to me. especially seeing a fellow indian woman get her happiness made me so happy, and both of their character development leading to them falling in love with each other,,, my favorite episodes in new girl are their episodes. they are THE love story. i want what they have

coliver (connor and oliver, htgawm) - these two also mean so so much to me. how to get away with murder is one of my comfort shows, which i know is a super weird thing to say, and ive always loved coliver. theyre both fucked up people, but they love each other and i personally LOVE the story and ending they got. their wedding episode is such a good episode and honestly i think i just love them because something about them is really real, even through all the hardship and toxicity and jail time, there's still love

mondler (monica and chandler, friends) - had they gotten together in season one they wouldve been UNSTOPPABLE. they are the friends to lovers blueprint and everything about them makes me smile. s5 is my favorite season of friends for a reason. their story is so important to me because they just like...kinda always loved each other? whether as friends or more there was just always love there, and it manifested itself in different ways but it was always there. best friends to lovers is my favorite thing ever and they are it !!!

maddie & chim (911) - yes yes i know buddie is fantastic and all but maddie and chim are my favorite simply because i love chimney with everything i am and i want him to have what he wants. also their baby is really cute. shout out jee yun. also also they've been through so much together and apart, and although i have my grievances with how some parts of their relationship was handled in the show, i will always love those two. no matter what, their love for each other always shows and shines and i just love them. also i am not caught up with the season 8 so nobody tell me anything

claire and phil (modern family) - i think these two were the first couple to make me believe that marriages can actually last. i thought, if these two polar opposites could survive all this time, then maybe there's a little hope for all of us. i love their different ways of showing love and how they can stay strong even through fights, and they are definitely my favorite modern family couple. people are always trying to talk about their toxic aspects but tbh that just makes them more real as a couple. and they still love each other throughout it all, even though they're both a little insane

honorable mention: jessica and louis (fresh off the boat), not done with the show yet but im on season 3 and any interaction between them makes me giggle and kick my feet. i wouldve put them on this list but since i havent finished the show i dont think i can compleyely speak on them yet. but as of rn i love them dearly and they are icons

as for deadwriter 16,,, there's no story. when i was young and first coming up with this username i was just kinda like what do i associate myself? and back then i was a bit of a oooh death and darkness kinda person (see: my early works. generally very dark). so i anyway i was like ok ill do dead. keep in mind i was fourteen. and then writer came from the fact that i am a writer. and 16 is my birthday. hence deadwriter16!

2: A kiss on the nose (OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OK CALM DOWN OH MY GOD) ~ It's with mixed feelings that Kyo realizes he has only one month left in Shigure's house. His first instinct is to ignore the overwhelming thoughts, but he knows better by now. So he lets himself feel. There's relief, of course. Relief that finally, after all this time, he's going to be free. He's going to be out of his last Sohma home, and he's going to be living without Sohma intervention, and even though being in his family is much easier now, it's still a huge weight off his shoulders knowing he's going to be out. There's excitement, too. He and Tohru are about to start a brand new life, just the two of them. Every time he thinks about it he can't stop himself from smiling. But, to his surprise, there's also a melancholy in his gut that he never expected. As he looks around his room, already mostly packed up, he realizes that a part of him is mourning the loss of the life he lived here. This house was Ground Zero for all of his growing pains. It hurt, being here, for a really long time. But he became the man he is today because of this house and the people in it. He's still on shaky ground with Yuki, but it's much better than it was before. Now they can be in the same room without hitting each other, which is a true miracle. He sometimes even thinks they might be real friends one day.

Even Shigure helped him. A little. Kind of. But of course, most importantly.....this house is where he met her. Tohru.

"Kyo-kun?" He turns around to find her standing in the doorway, and he can't control the smile that engulfs his face.

"I was just thinking about you," he says, reaching for her hand, which she immediately accepts. "Oh?" "Yeah, I was just thinking about how difficult it's gonna be to live with you." He only allows her to look surprised for a second before he laughs and reassures her. "I'm kidding. I've lived with you for years. And I'm so excited to start our new life together." Her demeanor instantly changes. She smiles, and her cheeks turn pink. "Me too," she says softly. God. He loves her so much. Her fingers squirm a little in his hand, and he raises an eyebrow. "You okay?"

"What? Oh! Yes! I just..." she bites her lip. "I just want to make sure you're alright." "Me? Why wouldn't I be?" Tohru looks into his eyes, and his heart does cartwheels, as usual. "It's just that I know this house gives you mixed feelings, and I wanted you to know that I understand." He shouldn't be surprised anymore that Tohru knows exactly what he's thinking. "I'll be okay," he says, "I'd give this place up a million times if it means being with you." She gazes around his room, taking in the boxes and the half packed belongings. "I'll miss it here too," she admits. "Hey," he says. Once he's sure she's looking at him, he swoops in and gives her nose a kiss. "We'll be okay. As long as we're together, right?" She blinks and touches her nose where he'd kissed it. And then, she smiles like the sunshine. "Yes," she says, "As long as we're together."

Parallels between two of my favorite trios of friends from animations: The Emerald Trio 💙💚💛 and The Furuba Trio 🐀🍙🐈

1. Tohru Honda 🍙 and Willow Park 🪴

Our female members are both very kind-hearted, caring, motherly-like figures in the group. They both put the needs and worries of others before their own, even if they have their own things to worry about. When they get upset about something, which is rare, they have a fighting spirit, especially when it’s concerning those they love.

2. Yuki Sohma 🐀 and Gus Porter 🪞

While Yuki and Gus don’t necessarily seem the same personality wise, they do have similarities worth mentioning. They both do love joking around/about their other male member. They both have a “friend” of sorts that joins their clubs/team who is rather into themselves, which can annoy our boys. Ultimately though, they end up getting along on playful terms.

3. Kyo Sohma 🐈 and Hunter Wittebane 🐺

Not only are they my favorite characters from their shows, but these two also have a lot in common. They both have family drama/trauma that causes them to be in a role they didn’t necessarily want to be in from the beginning. Both have family that treats them horribly for reasons that are out of their control. They are also skilled fighters that have gone through lots of training. As the series continues, they show to be caring, kind, and smart individuals.

4. While the boys don’t initially get off on the right foot, they eventually bond out of admiring one another. The girl has no problem with her relationships with either of them and does what she can to help and care for both of them.

Kyo and Yuki have a long history behind them that always puts them at odds, but they come together when it means Tohru’s happiness. She’s always just trying to keep the peace between the two.

Since Hunter was undercover as a new student, Gus was hesitant of his intentions at first. He was very skeptical, and especially felt like trust was hurt when Hunter turned them into the Emperor’s Coven. They eventually patched up after Hunter showed his true colors after having saved them.

5. Two of the members in both trios end up falling for each other, and become a couple as the series ends. The other male in the group sees the females as more motherly figures in their lives.

Kyo and Tohru get together while Hunter and Willow get together. Ship names are Kyoru and Huntlow.
