Weapon of Choice: Anyone remember Kirby's game on the Nintendo64? This is making me want to replay it now. The fridge is the funniest ability in that game though.

JIMMY BUTLER/anyone lol
OMG JAMNY!!!!!!!!!1!1!1!!
' I wish I could have got it done for these guys because they definitely deserve it. '
Kyle checks his phone, not his professional one, his Personal phone. Jimmy doesn't have to give a forcible and feign glance of innocence that just so happens to be sent that way, at that time, to know.
A little intake of breath, a small noise that oozed all that domestic slop Butler despised, instead of an annoyed silence because Kyle was too focused on rolling his eyes at an email regarding some form of business, readying his middle finger banded by a ring to flip off the phone with no eyes. A little moment for DeMar DeRozan.
It's a brief wheeze which leaves the lungs as quick as it was reactively formed, but not brief enough to slip 22's painfully acute mind. He blames it on the Yoga sharpening his senses instead of the innate psychological gruel that continually sludged from one side of his inflammatory skull to another. DeMar didn't even make a big post about it, didn't spend hours carefully perfecting the photos he would apply enmasse, what their meaning would signify to others, and even when he did opt for that sort of show in the past, its existence would never survive his sporadic extinction of the gallery. It was probably some of the laziest shows of intimacy ever, just texting. Jimmy could securely bet half of his salary that no emojis were used and win. You have to be one drab son of a bitch to not use emojis like they were a second form of online oxygen, and DeMar was exactly that kind of black and white boring.
And yet, he continues to succeed in his menial half-assed attempts at taking Kyle's time. It's like the guy spends all his miserable life lounging on the couch in that sad little depressive fit of his, limply holding a phone's black screen in one hand and an iPad in another as it's tuned in to a live viewing of The Heat's interview from a reporter watching in the crowd. It's like he times the texts irritatingly perfect, doesn't sit and wait, LAYS and waits.. lounges. While Jimmy sweats under the spotlight, poked and prodded not by pens anymore, but stupid phones and stupid microphones and stupid cameras and stupid DeMar watching from the stupid phones and microphones and cameras.
It was so fucking stupid.
The fact that Lowry took a moment to smile that stupid ruddy grin of his that lured those that don't know into a false sense of cheer rather than sardonic ploy.. during the depressing last note of the season.. all because of -
During an INTERVIEW?
HIS interview?
Kyle's permanent annoyance leading to antics with the media were usually the highlights from a tiresome day, the rude and ruder pair amping up their airtime. But today, Jimmy wasn't in on the fun. He saw no reason to. It was
So
Fucking
Stupid.
They just lost the Finals.
They just lost the Finals and now Jimmy, their supposed follow by example leader who relied on the simple practice of consistent excellency, is locked in a private jet's disgustingly spacious bathroom.. battling his demons. No better than a girl on her period wondering why everyone was being so rude to her only to realize red looking down and all a sudden her feelings meant absolutely zip in the moment, nullified by the cons of her biology.
The only reason why (the only advantage that mattered in the moment) Kyle went with Jimmy was due to playoff professionalism. Unlike DeMar, Jimmy had the awe-inspiring ability to turn all emotions on outside appearance aloof, merely battling through the motions like an impersonal assassin only here for the buck of the bid. Unlike DeMar
Jimmy wasn't human.
Yet here he sits, reminded that he was.
Defeated.
The points he scored hang above him, more than a number. The points he scored chant and dance mind-gratingly within reach while the ones he truly desires are locked just a little too high above it. The points he scored become the back of a man.
"Was it worth it?"
A forest green 21 asks.
... "Fuck are you doing here, Holiday."
The jersey ripples the name like a white flag as the scapulas flex and extend the fabric across. Yet who was the one really defeated here.
His smaller adversary of innocent delight grins and almost floats, puffing out his angular cheeks and pushing atop the automatic hand dryer with his hands. Illogically, he perches on the spotless object and dangles his legs, careless to the scenario and the physics that follow.
"You think I WANNA be here, Jimmy? It reeks like toxic waste, and you've got the cover on as some sort of miserable makeshift porcelain throne, so even biological movements can't answer to that mystery!"
Jrue laughs, announcing every aha in the high giggle, kicking his feet along to the obnoxious rhythm. Jimmy jumped to feet to drown out the noise and the piss-poor 'jokes' the other valued so dearly to his person, shoving the cover of the toilet hard enough to lopside it on its way up.
"Get out."
Jrue just twirls a braid, bouncing his head a bit side to side, bandana tufts following as flouncy as a chickadee.
"You showed them playoff jimmy, but you didn't promise them Finals Jimmy, that's for sure."
Another ahaha chuckle at his own two-cent joke shoved in as cash for the ATM machine (which is stupid in and of itself for being called the ATM machine when the m literally stands for machine.). Jimmy rears his head, thrashes it with violent matches to whichever side of his lip curls first. He rushes forward, propelled by hatred and puppeted by scorn, sinks a heavy hand against the wall -- nearly missing Jrue's sweaty neck.
To Jimmy's snarl turned smile, he saw the Point Guard shake. Just a bit. His entire being subconsciously rocked by some warning to survival. That's right. That's the placate his point guards deserved to belong, waiting and admiring him and his sheer inhumane monstrosity -- cold and unfeeling.
Which is exactly why he's panting from exerted desperation right now, heart running ragged nervous over overtime and head ringing and-
he's just So unfeeling
he's wet at the eyes from it.
"The only way you can get them to love you is.. by acting like this? And you're sure you want that?"
Holiday shifts so his neck slopes and his jawline thinly shows, sleek in shadow. Although his face is angled, thanks to a slight lazy eye, he's still giving Jimmy that entirely unbothered lazy lidded look.
"Want this?"
Butler lowered his gaze, pushing them head-to-head ( and Butler Never backs down from a head-to-head. ) until Jrue's scalp hit the wall. Sliding from forehead to temple, fevered lips kept refreshed by revenge hiss close enough to waver the nerves inhabiting ear.
"You don't know Shit about what I want, Jrue."
The trembling he felt this time wasn't from fear, and the tiny nose fumbling out that throat wasn't some awarded whimper of servitude, but
ahaha. aha.
Jrue threw his head back and laughed, then laughed even harder after bashfully rubbing it with a little 'oop-' from it thumping against the wall. The hoods hanging dangerously half over whites thin upwards until obsolete, utterly aghast. Maybe even a tad indignant. Jimmy's nostrils flare, following the surprised rage from the rest of his beautiful features.
Jrue just laughs even more at sight.
"I know that was a bad game on your part, I know that! I know about to retire Lowry and surprisingly young Bam had to help way more than you ever did. I know you shouldn't have taken that shot. But I know you did, because you didn't want to, but they-"
The indent in the wall trails horizontal as he scrapes the rupture even farther to the left, spraying formidable losses off the side. Butler heaves, sighs, sobs, cries
his shoulders sag, swallowing the tension he didn't realize he was showering under only to throw it all back up again. A knock, the lower end of a painfully sad series, finally ruptures through the fog choking his psyche.
Jimmy rips the handle to full-force before splashing his face with the water, not caring that half of it fell out of the sink, soaking everything besides the target on necessary cooldown.
The door slides open like paper tearing, Bam's hand caught in the tilted motion. He barely has time to straighten a wrist as Jimmy shoves his way past.
Adebayo's mouth moves, but Lowry's beats him thanks to more experience.
"THE HELL WAS ALL THAT FOR, JIMMY??
You seriously wanna get fined after the Finals!?Fuck! Who you fighting in there anyways, shit?! What the Fuck is WRONG with you--"
Jimmy gives the smaller point guard, no longer his, perhaps never was, a look harsh enough to wilt the old blue orchid clenched in his hands -- too delicate to keep along with his luggage for the flight.
"Nothing any of you should know."
As Kyle continued to argue with a wall, Bam snuck a side-ways stare into the dark room Jimmy's been banging in. No Rachel Nichols..
No-
Nothing.

Bro'Dee, fictional given name: "healer; guide," derivative from the Moon Goddess of Health Joo'Dee
Walker, fictional occupational title serving as surname: someone with the title Walker was a religious figure, a missionary of sorts; their job was to visit neighboring villages and settlements no matter how far or dangerous the trek to offer the residents (and any other travelers they may meet) needs like food, water, shelter, companionship, and/or spiritual support
alias/es: Saint Walker, Blue Lantern
ethnicity: extraterrestrial (Astonian)
one picture you like best of your chara:
three h/cs you've never told anyone:
On more than one occasion, Bro'Dee has allowed himself to be captured by groups in the business of slave trading/"human" (sapient alien?) trafficking. As a member of a species whose numbers are in only the thousands across the entire universe, Bro'Dee realizes he's something of a target for these deplorable "businesses" and has spent months on some occasions as a group's captive, working to sabotage and dismantle them from the inside- and, most importantly, get the other prisoners back to their loved ones, if not their homeplanets.
I don't remember if I've made a post about this one,,,,,,, Bro'Dee is an experienced survivalist, able to quickly and efficiently construct a shelter and build a fire, track and trap food, traverse rough terrains, etc. The fact he's traveled so much around the universe has also given him a better sense of what's probably not safe to eat and is better left alone. Even though some previous injuries have limited his abilities to a degree without his ring to compensate, Bro'Dee is still very much someone a fellow Lantern- or really anyone- would want to have as support while stranded on an alien planet.
I have ABSOLUTELY already shared this one (by way of it's featured on his doc), but Bro'Dee has scars from his time being captured and experimented on by the Sinestro Corps. Most notable are a vertical line a few inches in length which forks at the top over his ribs and bottom over his pelvis (from being vivisected), a crater-esque patch of permanently damaged and discolored scales on right outer forearm (from the device implanted there to make Bro’Dee able to power a Yellow ring as he would a Green), and a small, perfectly round mark at the base of his spine (where they drilled into his skeleton.)
three things your character likes doing in their free time:
Exercising, primarily swimming, hiking, and climbing (both trees and rocks)
Pretending to be oblivious, naive, or otherwise not understand something someone says
Carrying long conversations with a loved one, even if it's about nothing in particular

Barry Allen
Guy Gardner
Hal Jordan
John Stewart

Kyle Rayner
Yrra Cynril
two things your character regrets:
Allowing his family to follow him on his journey up Mt. Helios. He very much holds firm to the belief that their deaths are his fault directly, that if he would have made them wait at home for him they'd at least have had a chance at still being alive.
Cursing Kyle during the fall of Odym, even if he's already apologized many times. Bro'Dee despises losing his temper and lashing out like that, especially towards a loved one.
two phobias / fears your character has:
Anything that falls under the category "creepy crawly"- even before the Reach attacked and ultimately destroyed Odym, though that certainly didn't help. Rooming with Bro'Dee comes with the distinct risk he'll cry about there being a bug in the room and beg you to get rid of it, and cry Even More if you try killing it.
Losing anyone else. The thought alone makes his blood run cold, and haunts his recurrent night terrors.

“I wish I knew how to help you” - Batsis x Batfamily
Synopsis : Everyone has tough times at some point in their lives. Bruce Wayne most definitely knows that. But when his own daughter is going through a really rough patch, he finds himself not really knowing how to fix things...
This particular subject has been requested so many times (the earliest request dating from August 2018....mmmm..), so watch me butcher it with bad writing. I thought, given how I feel lately, it was the perfect time to finally write it. I hope you will like it (runs away to hide) :
TW : Anxiety, depression, mention of suicide.
My Masterlist : @ella-ravenwood-archives.
__________________________________________________
There hasn’t been a lot of time in his life where Bruce Wayne felt so completely lost. Of course, he would be lying if he was saying he never got confused, or if sometimes, he wasn’t quite sure what to do, what to say...
But if there was one thing he was great at, it was problem solving.
Even in desperate situations, he could always trust his analytical and collected mind to help him out.
In fact, Bruce Wayne could count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times he felt utterly lost, defenseless, and couldn't figure out a solution to his troubles. Not even a questionable one, like bottling up all of his feelings and pretending he doesn’t care while he’s screaming and dying inside.
He recollected exactly five times of such an event occurring in his life :
The day his parents died.
The day he realized he couldn’t save everyone.
The day Dick came to live at the Manor, and Bruce realized he had no idea how to raise a child.
The day Jason died.
The day he saw Damian kill.
And now, spilling onto another hand :
...The day he realized he had no idea how to help his daughter, you, with her mental health struggles.
Each time he had been completely lost, there was someone to help him.
For his parents’ death, it was Alfred.
For the day he realized even as Batman he would never be able to save everyone ? It was Commissioner Gordon, and his years of being a cop in a city like Gotham.
Dick himself, and Alfred of course, quickly helped Bruce to understand what it meant to be a father.
Tim’s arrival helped him grieve Jason.
And all his children, from Dick to Cass, and the experience he acquired trying to raise them helped him manage Damian’s problems. It was a plus for sure, that the boy wanted to be helped.
But with you...Any attempt of his trying to breach the subject would result in you brushing his concerns off, getting frustrated, or sighing “I’m fine” and leaving to isolate yourself in your room.
Sometimes, it felt like you really wanted to talk to him. Like you wanted to vent, and tell him what was wrong. But you always seemed to decide against it, maybe in fear of bothering him ?
Most of the time, it felt like you were living with your anxiety in peace. Like you greeted it like a good friend. Bruce had always known you were a rather stressed individual, but you always held yourself up so well ?
Most of the time, it felt like you were perfectly fine. How could he have known ? How could he have known you weren’t ? Ah...but maybe the signs were all there all along...
And Bruce just didn’t know how to help, when even you, didn’t seem to want the help...But maybe that was the trick ? To keep trying no matter what ?
At first, it didn’t seem to him like this would be an issue that could render him absolutely lost like this. And he hated the fact that he thought that.
Because it stemmed from one pervasive thought that made him despise himself : “Her fight with her own mind aren’t as bad as Damian’s, Cass’s, or Jason’s trauma. Aren’t like what Dick went through. It will be easier to fix.” And maybe you felt that, maybe that’s why you wouldn’t let him help ?
Why would it be easier anyway ?
Because you had a calmer childhood. Of course, being Batman’s daughter meant you definitely went through things most children will never experience. But compared to your siblings, you had a somewhat normal childhood.
The biggest trauma of it being the fact your mother, Selina Kyle (author’s note : I’m not particularly talking biological child here by the way, just to make sure y’all can all identify to this. Thought I’d mention it), decided to leave you in your dad’s care and had a very little part in your upbringing up until you turned 12 or so, which is the time she came back. You never seemed to even be mad about this. It always felt like you knew your mom had her own battles to win, that she wasn’t quite ready to have a child, and you forgave her as soon as she came back into your life.
But maybe that was the problem ? The fact Bruce always thought you were strong enough to handle things ? You always seemed to hold your own. You’d always been fiercely independent. Like you never needed help.
When Dick had fits of anger, you’d just stay quiet and withhold it.
When Jason was sometimes overzealous, you’d just stay calm and collected.
When Tim had massive freak outs at times because he felt he wasn’t enough, you’d just reassure him and stay grounded.
When Cass would have nightmare at night and be so scared she couldn’t find her voice again, you’d stay up with her and make sure to soothe her back to sleep, even if it meant not sleeping yourself.
When Damian would realize how much he missed out in life, in his childhood, and how little he knew about the real world...You’d be there, holding his hand while explaining in details why he felt the way he felt.
Even Duke, who arguably was the “sanest” of them all, had times where things were too much for him, and you’d magically appear by his side to help him through it.
You always seemed to be the one everyone relied on.
The one that has it all figured out, that has it together. The one most like Bruce, able to control her emotions. But the one even better than him, because you could also help others understand how they felt.
And that was why Bruce never really noticed your every day struggles.
Come to think of it, the fact you were always so on point and great in your explanations as to why someone felt the way they did, probably meant you felt like them before...
Oh god. God, Bruce hated this. Hated himself, even.
Hated the fact that he thought your fights with your own mind weren’t as bad as what Damian or Dick went through, as bad as Cass or Jason’s traumas. As bad as Duke witnessing what happened to his parents, because you...Well you still had both of them. And they were on good terms, now.
He hated the fact that it took you almost dying for him to realize you had a real problem too. For him to realize your apparent “I can handle my own” attitude was all a fragile facade that could break any time.
He hated the fact that he had to witness you almost letting yourself die, to realize this...The scene kept replaying in his mind.
A night out as vigilantes. Part of a building collapsing. You pushing a woman out of its way, but then just staring up at the crumbling wall that would crush you, not moving. And the state of daze you were in, when you found yourself in your father’s arms as he saved you in extremis from a certain death that you were clearly letting happen.
You later said it was a mistake. It was a simple mistake.
But Bruce, from that point and on, knew better. There had been a time, not long after his parents’ death, where he wondered what even was the point in living anymore. Where he found himself in a similar situation too, where he could save himself and yet stayed in front of the death threat. Alfred saved him at the time, gave him a good scolding which Bruce didn’t even register.
He recognize that look in your eyes.
Because he had the same one, many years ago, before he had a chance at having a family again. Before you, Dick, Jason, Cass, Tim, Damian...It was a look that meant : “What if I just let it happen, what if I end the pain by ending it all ?”.
And Bruce hated the fact that it took him witnessing this look in your eyes for him to finally realize you needed help. It tore his heart apart.
He hated the fact it took him so long to finally act upon it, to finally do something for you. No matter how lost he was as to where to even begin.
And so here he was, on a calm night in Gotham, sitting on a roof and researching on the internet what can be done to help people riddled with anxiety and such. He knew you enough to know you’d never accept to go see a therapist. But maybe...maybe he could help just as good ?
He knew how he got rid of his own anxiety.
The same way he got rid of many other things...He submitted himself to a strict training allowing him to control all of his emotions, shutting some away when needed.
But he couldn’t even imagine making you go through the things he made himself do. Not his daughter. Not any of his children.
There was a reason, the training he gave all of you wasn’t even 10% of what he used to do. Because he had nothing to live for except becoming strong enough to bring back justice to Gotham. Because he had nothing to look forward to except the fact that he was going to make sure no kid in that god forsaken city would go through what he went through ever again...
He gave himself the ability to turn into a machine. To shun all feelings away. Because he had a mission.
He would never, ever want any of his children to feel like this. Even if he managed to, in appearance, make himself feel nothing...It would always cause him tremendous pain. He knew how this felt, to force yourself to control everything.
No. His method was most definitely not fit for his daughter. He did not want her to become like him. And so, scrolling through forums, websites and blogs, he tried to find the best way he could to help his kiddo. It seems like there was almost like a “list” of things every person suffering from anxiety went through every day...
Wondering if your loved ones are upset with you.
“Are you mad at me ?”
Is the text you send to your oldest brother, Dick, immediately regretting it.
Because now, you were sure he’d find you annoying, pushy or anything of the like. Of course, Dick would never. But your mind was telling you he would.
He hadn’t responded to your text in a day, while he would usually be very reactive, and you didn’t need more to think he hated you, now.
Knowing there is no reason for you to feel that way.
Knowing for Dick to be “mad” at his little siblings, it would take a lot (you weren’t even sure you’ve ever seem him mad at any of you, except maybe the times you put yourselves in danger while he’s your team leader, but then it’s more a problem of being mad at himself than really at you.
Yet you cannot control it. You cannot. You are sure now, that he hates you.
Your father doesn’t understand why you’re so morose that day, and why you snap at everyone. He doesn’t understand, and you don’t tell him. And Bruce just ends up thinking you’re in a bad mood and leave you alone, while you desperately want to talk.
You want to tell him that you think Dick hates you. You want to hear him reassure you, even if technically, there is no need for reassurance. Of course your brother doesn’t hate you, he’s probably just busy, he just started his new job in Bludhaven, and moved in a new apartment and...Yes.
Rationally, of course you knew your brother, who has always been there and never shied away from saying he cared about you and love you, doesn’t hate you.
Yet you cannot help but think you did something wrong. You cannot help but think maybe he does. And you want to tell your dad, and have him reassure you, even if you don’t need to.
But instead, you snap at him. Instead, you push him away. Because you couldn’t handle your dad too thinking your annoying. Of course, he would think you’re annoying, a nuisance, if you told him you think Dick hates you...because obviously he doesn’t.
It was a vicious circle. So instead of possibly-but-probably-not-but-still-maybe be hurt, you pushed the one person you wanted close away, snapping at him and isolating yourself in your room.
TING ! Your phone, it’s ringing ! Oh please god, please be Dick !
It is your brother. He answered !
“Of course not ! Why would you think that ?”
You analyze every single word, and how he didn’t use an emoji, while he always does ! And the way he said “why would you think that ?”...he’s for sure mad at you now, and he thinks you’re the most obnoxious little sister that ever walked this Earth.
But you answer :
“Oh no reason lol. Hey wanna binge watch Gilmore Girls with me this week end ? Only you understand how a true masterpiece this show is.”
He doesn’t reply that day, and you think about it the entire night. He doesn’t come at the patrol of course, as again, he just settled in Bludhaven. And it starts. The spiraling of overwhelming feelings, the impossibility to let go of something.
You cannot think of anything else but sending another text to ask if he’s really not mad at you. You decide against it, because you don’t want him to think you’re annoying. Because you understand he has his own life now. Now that he moved from the Manor.
You understand he must be busy. That he has to settle in. That he doesn’t have to be available whenever you want, and that the fact he had always been up until now proved he was the best big brother anyone could ask for.
But you can’t help it. You think it must be you. That he’s not answering because it’s you.
And all of a sudden, you question every relationship you have. What if none of your siblings love you, and are just polite ? What if they’re lying because you’re really the only sibling out of all of you they don’t like and they’re just too nice to...Oh god. Your dad must hate you too.
Because you keep needing him to reassure you about stuffs. Ah yes, today you shunned him away, but sometimes, you guilt trip him so he says he cares about you. Or so he tells you nice things.
And suddenly, one of your biggest fear, the one where you ask for too much out of the people you love is back. And you cry. You cry all night. Because you have too many mood swings. You isolate yourself too much. But you don’t know, you don’t know how to make them see your fear of not being cared for...
And so you cry. Wondering over and over again “why am I like this ????” as you think all of your loved one are upset with you, and will never want to talk to you again.
Later in the day, Dick answers that he would love to watch GG with you, and there’s an emoji this time. Ah. So maybe he doesn’t hate you...
So many people wouldn’t even think this was a big deal, but for you...for you, it was...
Every small decision feels like it has life or death consequences.
You want to tell them. You want to tell them that’s why you couldn't choose what you wanted at the drive through fast enough. Why you stumbled on your words, and ended up blurting out : “Whatever Jason took !” because your taste in food was the closest to his.
You want to tell them, that even such a small issue, in your head, took a huge place. That you rehearsed what you were going to say when it would be your turn to speak to the waiter. That you got all tangled up, and didn’t ask what you actually wanted.
You want to tell them that sometimes, even the smallest “yes or no” question haunts you for days. That “what ifs” won’t let you alone.
You want to tell them, but instead you take the meal you didn’t really want, and eat it in silence, listening to everyone talking and enjoying this family moment. You stay quiet, your mind focus on how clumsy, dumb and useless you are.
Just because you couldn’t order something at the drive through.
You stay quiet, but your mind is racing about how much you suck. How you should get out of everyone’s way. Because you can’t even order food properly.
You feel guilty, because this is one rare family moment when you’re all together, and your siblings all have fun teasing each others, laughing and talking, while you just nod sometimes, smile, and die inside.
Just because you couldn’t order something at the drive through.
You think you’re absolutely insane. That you should be checked in in Arkham. You-
Bruce notices you’re quieter than usual. He notices you didn’t take your favorite burger. He wonders why, because he knows you really REALLY like that burger. Sometimes, he goes out of his way to go get you guys’ favorite food, and he knows that this burger is one of yours...
But he doesn’t dwell on it. Maybe you just wanted to change for once (which wasn’t much like you but oh well). And the fact you’re quiet ? Maybe you’re just lost in your own thoughts and day dreaming. After all, you do like to have some quiet and alone time, and this family dinner is happening on this time.
So Bruce doesn’t say anything, even if his guts tell him something is wrong.
Overthinking. Fearing something could go wrong.
You are in constant fear of what's going to happen if and when something happens to your dad ! Or your siblings ! What if you become homeless for some reasons ? What if you have no friends or family to return to ? What if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if what if...
Intrusive thoughts, they call them. And they don’t want to leave for sure. They’re persistant. They stay up until you overthink them to the point nothing makes sense anymore. To the dissociation.
And it makes your every day life a living nightmare.
Bruce, as he reads this part of an article on the internet, about how people suffering from anxiety are in a constant state of worry, feels his heart tighten at the mere idea you are going through this.
He knows you are. And he hates the fact it took him so long to realize because...
Not being able to control what's happening now or in the future.
Bruce could recollect so many times where, even as a child, you’d ask him questions like : “What happens after you die ?”, “What will happen to me when I get old ?” etc etc.
At the time, of course, he dismissed it as questions every kid asks. Wondering about the world around them. He never saw how much those questions would haunt you, how much sometimes, you couldn’t let go of things you perfectly knew you had no control over...
The signs were all there though.
You weren’t lost in day dreams, you were lost in nightmarish scenarios about what could possibly happen in the near future.
You were, every minute of every day, worrying about something that was currently happening, something that happened recently, or something that might happen in the next few moment, later the same day or in the future.
It was something you had to live with, and it never been just a child curiosity. As you grow up you stopped asking those questions out loud, didn’t mean they weren’t haunting you...
Making a mistake that will result in someone judging you.
You always had to be irreproachable.
You were a perfectionist.
A lot of time, people passed it as : “like father, like daughter.”
And Bruce should’ve known better...Why was he like this ? This part of him certainly didn’t stem from anything good. Yet he ignored the fact you acted exactly like him. The fact you were turning into him, on that front...
My brain is a TV and someone else has the remote.
... ... ... ...
************
Bruce had enough. He knew. He knew how you felt, and why you acted the way you did sometimes. And it was time. It was time to finally take action.
But he couldn’t do it alone. And he wouldn’t. In fact, they’d all be so mad, if he executed this plan on his own...
Because you. You were their precious sister.
They loved you, so much. And it would kill them, if they knew you really meant it, when you asked if they were mad at you. If they hated you. If they...
They always think you’re joking, or that you’re tired or something. That you have “mood swings”.
You don’t.
For you, all those issues are very real. But they don’t understand, because you’re always there to catch them, and they never expected you needed to be caught.
So when their father expose to them what he thinks is going on with them, and when they realize he’s right...
They feel crushed.
How ? How could they not notice their beloved sister was suffering so much ?
And so that day, they all swear that they are going to do everything in their power to help you. No matter what.
They will never give up on you.
No matter what..
************
“Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ?” You repeat to yourself, over and over again, as you feel your heart beat like crazy while it has no reason to.
While your chest hurt, and you feel the weight of anxiety on your shoulder, without even knowing why.
You keep telling yourself you suck, you keep being too harsh on yourself, and oh, oh if you only knew that your entire family right now, was plotting to help you feel better.
Unfortunately...
************
Dick’s antics soothe you for a bit, but as soon as he’s gone your heart goes wild again, refusing to stop, and your mind repeats bad thoughts to you.
The next day, Dick planned the PERFECT sister/brother day. Planning things to spend time with you, just like when you were little and it was just you and him.
It’s a perfect day indeed. Everything makes you forget your anxiety. You smile, for the first time in months since this weird extreme anxious state started.
Dick always knew how to make you laugh, and how to tease you just enough so that you wanted to show him what you were made of !
But once you’re home...
And Dick can try, try and try again, but no matter his effort, he can only relieve your pain when he’s around, and unfortunately, he isn’t always around.
************
Jason is patient, with you.
He listens, he empathizes and does not patronizes.
He’s there when you need him. He celebrates every small victory from you (like finally being able to order the burger you want). He encourages you, gives you all the hope he can. And it means a lot, coming from him.
Because Jason suffered a lot. He went through a lot. His death, and his traumatic return...
He tries to keep you hopeful. He is patient. Available. But he does things too well. You’re afraid he spends too much time with you, and forgets his own mental health. You know he loves to meditate, but haven’t seen him do it in ages.
Because he’s also keeping an eye on you. Your father probably told him the crumbling building debacle...And now he makes sure you’re ok.
But to the detriment of his own mental well being ?
You feel like you’re weighting him down. And slowly, he notices you’re avoiding him. And he doesn’t know what to do. He doesn’t want to push you, or force you to do anything...
************
It has always been easy, to talk to Tim.
Your brother is the only one in the family that did not become a Robin for personal reasons. Sure, he was struck with tragedy later in life (or he would never be your brother now...), but at the core of it...He was just a kid who wanted to help.
He was a fan of Batman, who really REALLY wanted to make himself useful. He became Robin, not because of any personal motivation but because he was just that selfless.
And so, it has always been easy to talk to Tim.
Which is why he’s surprised, when he realizes you’ve never told him about your anxiety. About your depressed thoughts. You vent a lot to him, but about small things. About things you can both laugh about.
It has always been easy to talk to Tim, and the fact you cannot address your anxiety problems tells him all the extent of it.
Tells him you’re truly suffering, and that he needs to get better.
To become an even better listener, for you. And as you witness him, just like Jason, sort of forgetting about his own well being, you cannot help but feel even worst...
They mean well. They mean so well. But you cannot stand them putting their own health on the line just for you. After all, you’re just a loser who doesn’t deserve any of those wonderful brothers and sister...
************
Duke tries to help you “temper your thoughts”.
His mom used to do that to him, as a child. He was always rather active, suffering from ADHD and such. In a lot of ways, his trouble resembled the ones you had with anxiety.
And he thought that maybe, helping you tempering your thoughts would be the best.
What does that even mean ? Well. Whenever he felt like you were anxious about something, scared or stressed, he would ask you if you were alright up until you’d finally tell him what was making you anxious.
And then he’d ask you the series of question his mom asked : “What’s the worst that can happen ? What’s the best that can happen ? What’s most realistic, or likely ?”...At first you didn’t really understand the point.
But soon enough, you got it. This was helping you turning your intrusive thoughts against themselves. Helping you see the good sides of things.
Unfortunately, just like with Dick’s technique of making you laugh and such, when Duke wasn’t around to remind you to consider the best, worst and most likely option...you forgot that trick.
************
"Let’s go to a quieter place, or go for a walk.”
Cassandra tells you, whenever she sees you get overwhelmed by something. And it works. It does.
You two just walk in silence, hand in hand.
Your sister’s presence reassuring, and warm. Her care for you sipping out of her very being, from her hand to yours.
“Let’s go to a quieter place, or for a walk.”
You go outside, and you don’t speak. She’s just here for you.
But she can’t always be around, can she ? She can’t always just magically appear next to you in moments of need, and say :
“Let’s go to a quieter place, or for a walk.”
But when she can. She does.
She knows when you get overwhelmed by sounds, by smells, by anything. And she brings you to places that makes you feel at peace.
Cassandra was never one to speak a lot, but she always understood.
************
Damian can’t help but feel sad that he, and the rest of the family, aren’t enough for you to feel better. That they can’t win against your depression and anxiety, no matter how hard they try.
And Damian. Oh Damian tries.
He makes sure you have everything you need. He makes sure to be there when it feels like you’re not feeling well, he follows you like a shadow and...
You both get more and more frustrated.
Damian puts a lot of effort into making you feel better, and you keep snapping at him, or pushing him away.
It’s because YOU’RE the big sister. YOU’RE the one who’s supposed to take care of him. But it seems like lately, Damian is obsessed with your well being, and he doesn’t even let you tuck him in anymore...He’s the one that comes tuck you in.
And deep down, you feel like it’s exactly what you need. You want to let your baby brother take care of you. And his worries are so sweet, and makes you feel all warm inside by how adorable this kid can be. How far he came back from.
Deep down.
But you’re not ready to admit you need help. Especially not from your 11 years old brother. No. He’s the one that needs the cuddles and the reassuring words. He’s the one that had it way tougher than you. And him taking care of you, although it feels nice, doesn’t feel right.
And it hurts, to see your little brother get sad because he can’t help you like he wants to. Because he thinks he’s not enough for you, and that’s why you’re feeling the way you are...
************
Nothing goes how they think it was going to go.
You do not get better right away. It doesn’t even feel like you’re getting better at all. On the contrary.
It feels like you push them away even more, that you become even more irritable, that...that...that you go further and further away from them.
And they don’t understand.
Even you, don’t understand.
Why do you feel so bad ? So Sad ? So anxious all the time ?
You don’t know. You don’t know. You don’t know.
“Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ? Why am I like this ?!”
You repeat this to yourself every day, without being able to find an answer.
And Bruce...Oh, your father came to the conclusion that the last and only option is that you need to go to therapy, you need professional help.
************
“What ? Why ? I’m fine dad !”
You say, anger pointing in your voice, as he tells you that.
“No you’re not, (Y/N). We can all see it. And there’s so much we can do we...I...”
There’s a silence. A heavy one. And it breaks Bruce’s heart, to see tears welling up at the corner of your eyes :
“It’s fine. I get it. I’m too much, aren’t I ? That’s why right ? I ruin you guys’ life ? You know, I noticed a shift not long ago. I know you’re trying to make me feel better, and I know you all get frustrated because you can’t. I swear I try dad. I swear I try to not get those bad thoughts. To not think you don’t love me, for whatever reason. To not think like I’m a burden. I swear I try to not be anxious. I try to not worry, about every little thing. I try so hard ok ?! But it doesn’t work ! And I know it’s wearing all of you down. I know it. But...I’m...It’ll be fine ! IT’LL BE FINE !!”
You scream those last few words, and a silence installs itself between you and your father.
Bruce just looks at you, and you cannot stand the pained look in his eyes. You never wanted your burden to transfer on your family like that...why ? Why did you get worst and made them notice you weren’t ok ? Why ?
Maybe it would’ve been better, if your dad didn’t see you about to get crush by this building, and hadn’t saved you. They’d have a-
“I won’t stop trying.”
Your father’s voice cuts your terrible thought, and you look up at him. He walked slowly to you, carefully, as if afraid to scare you. As if afraid you’re gonna “tt” him, and run to lock yourself in your room.
But for some reason, you don’t move. And you let him come close.
He brushes a few fingers on your cheek, as he used to when you were a child and unable to sleep. Him softly humming to you and brushing your cheeks slowly always made you fall right asleep...
“Until you feel better. And I will tell you over and over again that I love you and that I am here for you, if it’s what you need. I am your dad. I am here for you.”
And he understands your pain oh too well. It’s not because he managed to be able to shut his own mental health problems out, that he never feels them.
You are your father’s daughter. Unfortunately in that case.
Oh. Oh he wishes he could take on your pain. He could take on his shoulders your entire burden. He wishes it was only him, that felt that way. That you would never, ever feel anxiety, or depression again.
He knows it is not that easy. He understands.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Something breaks inside you. Something that was on the verge of shattering for years, but snapped only now.
“I just...I just wish I could help you. I just wish I knew how. I am trying too, (Y/N). And I won’t give up on you. No matter what you think. I will never give up on you.”
Those words. Those were so simple. Yet what you needed to hear for so long.
Because no matter your siblings’ effort, or Alfred’s, or your dad’s. Your friends at the Young Justice. Anyone you ever cared for...You always were afraid that one day, you’d be too much for them.
That one day, all your mood swings, pushing them away, venting and complaining often...would be too much. And that they’d leave you.
Alone forever.
“I’m not giving up on you.”
Coming from your dad. You knew he said the truth. You knew.
There’s a short silence. You look at your father, and even Queen Anxiety couldn’t make you think he wasn’t being genuine.
“You...That’s...I...”
Getting chocked up, you weren’t able to say anything, but he understood.
And he was there to catch you. You went right into his arms, and he held you tight, trying to convey to you all the unconditional love he has and will always have for you, no matter what.
No matter how much you push him away, how broken you get, how much you hate yourself and think you don’t deserve any kind of love...he’d always, ALWAYS love you. And would never give up.
“I’m here. I’m here. I will always be here.”
His voice was soothing. It has always been soothing. And he was there.
He was there.
“Thank you...”
You manage to whimper out, as he holds you against his heart.
And, finding it hard to reign his own emotions in (his children have always been the only ones who could cross all his walls and find the vulnerable Bruce who feels everything), Bruce repeated as much as you needed to hear that he was here.
He would always be here for you.
Always..
And the path to your recovery was now open.

Write terrible stuffs.
Reblogs and feedbacks are always welcomed ?

Below imma put my reasoning for each of these if you were confused about why I put certain characters where I did.
(note that this is about the show Harley Quinn 2019 so most things outside of this show won’t be taken into account when discussing the character’s alignments)
James Gordon as Lawful Good: He’s group and order oriented, and will cooperate with authority in all cases. You’ll never see Gordon team up with anyone who isn’t strictly on the ‘good’ side of things. He’s convinced that order and laws are absolutely necessary to assure that goodness prevails and continued to uphold the law even when Batman was gone. A lawful good being kills whenever necessary to promote the greater good, or to protect himself, his companions, or anyone whom he's vowed to defend. In times of war, he strikes down the enemies. Gordon was very much willing to kill Two Face and basically went into an all out war against Harley. He admitted himself that he got into the police force to shoot bad guys. So long as it’s within the letter of the law and the people in question deserve it, he’s very much willing to maim and kill. Gordon responds to authority and when there is no authority figure around he does his best to uphold the law on his own.
Bruce Wayne as Neutral Good: He, like most neutral good characters, values life and freedom above all else, and despises those who would deprive others of them. Neutral good characters, including him, sometimes find themselves forced to work beyond the law, yet for the law, and the greater good of the people. Multiple times throughout the series he teams up with people the law dictates he ought to be fighting, like when he helped Harley in season one and even sacrificed himself to save Harley and Ivy, or when he helped Harley and The Joker get the Justice League back in season two. He’s a super hero, he tries to stay within the law, but he’s willing to work with those who aren’t strictly on the side of ‘good’ if it’s for the sake of goodness.
Barbara Gordon as Chaotic Good: A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. Babs, within the context of the show, does work with law enforcement, but she isn’t exactly bound by codes and laws. She worked with Harley and Ivy to take down the Riddler in Season 2 (and lets be real lawful characters...probably wouldn’t work with criminals) and she actually tries to befriend and hang out with the two. Working with them wasn’t just because she had to and there was no other option, she actually wanted to be friends with two criminals which again shows that she isn’t exactly bound to the law. In fact, she actively goes against it when she warns Harley about Gordon coming to take her down and tries to dissuade her father from going through with it, actively sabotaging the police to do what she believes is the right thing.
Pamela Isley as Lawful Neutral: A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount to her. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. Traditionally, when people think ‘lawful neutral’ they think the latter of those possible motivations, someone who believes in the law and government, however in Ivy’s case she’s much more dictated by a personal standard. A lawful character trusts someone or something better than he trusts themselves, but they still pick which thing that is, it doesn’t have to be the laws of the land, it can be anything so long as it’s a solid principal or code or set of ideals rather than “whatever I feel like at the time”. Ivy’s moral code focuses mainly on saving the earth and she doesn’t every stray from that. She has a strong ideal that she’s completely dedicated to and doesn’t ever really change. She’s an eco-terrorist, and terrorism is usually enacted over incredibly strong beliefs. She isn’t exactly ‘good’ because although her goal is respectable she does things that most people consider immoral to get there, showing she isn’t too concerned about doing what’s good towards people. However she also doesn’t exactly go out of her way to harm or do evil (i mean she hurts people who try and hurt harley or the environment but this is moreso a form of vigilante justice than doing something ivy sees as immoral because she inherently believes that most of humanity is below the environment and below harley too “she’s my only friend but that’s by design, because she’s the only human I think is worth a shit”.)
Harleen Quinzel as True Neutral: True Neutral character’s fully think of good as better than evil. After all, they would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. They’re just not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. True neutral characters are known to behave in a good, moral way towards friends and allies. They support the people who support them, often out of genuine love. True neutral characters also typically only go out of their ways to hurt people who they think deserve it. Basically people who tried to hurt them or their loved ones first. Beyond that they don’t care. They don’t go out of their way to hurt people who don’t deserve it but if these people haven’t done anything to earn this character’s affection then these people don’t really matter. True neutrals often believe in lex talionis forms of justice. True neutral individuals do not lack interest, ambition, or passion--they value their own well-being and that of friends and loved ones. They may struggle passionately on behalf of themselves or others, as well as feel compassion for those they barely know. But overall they aren’t bound with any loyalty to doing what’s good. They aren’t bound to the law. They don’t feel an obligation to go against morality or law just for the sake of it either, though. I honestly think this is the most fitting for Harley. She doesn’t see any reason to follow the laws so she doesn’t. When someone fucks with her she’ll fuck right back, but generally she isn’t known to go out of her way to hurt people. It really feels like she’s mostly out to protect herself and her own. She’ll fight for things her friends care about and to help the people she loves. She has no qualms about lying and killing when the people in question hurt her or someone she cares about, though. She said herself that she can’t really even be considered a bad guy. Harley turned down the chance to take over the world because she isn’t evil and doesn’t want to inflict unwarranted suffering on random people, but at the same time she’s taken down multiple people who mess with her with little remorse for doing so. The broader conflicts between ‘good’ and ‘evil’ and ‘law’ and ‘chaos’ don’t seem to mean much to her, she’s just out to protect her and her own.
Selina Kyle as Chaotic Neutral: She, like all chaotic neutral characters, strives to protect her freedom first and foremost. Chaotic neutral characters follow their whims without any regard for good or evil or law. They often don’t have much actual concern for personal relationships. Chaotic neutral characters do not necessarily want others to suffer as a result of their actions, but do not care if others do suffer. They tend to behave in a good manner towards friends and allies, unless their friends and allies do not agree with them. Within the show, Selina has betrayed her allies multiple times, first abandoning her to steal a blood diamond and leaving Ivy to pay for her hotel bills, then stealing the the diamond Kiteman wanted to use to propose. She generally isn’t concerned with the wellbeing of Ivy, Harley, or any other allies, and prioritizes her own interests over all else with very little loyalty to...well...anything.
Darkseid as Lawful Evil: A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard for whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion. Darkseid is difficult to please and demands grand gestures of obedience and power in order for people to prove themselves, as was the case of Harley and Doctor Psycho offering to conquer planet Earth for him. Any acts of betrayal or disloyalty towards him is met with anger on his part and an oaf of vengeance. Despite this, he is not without a sense of restraint, as was the case of him returning to Apokolips after Harley refused for a second time to rule over Earth. He keeps his promises (when he offered harley the ability to rule earth after she showed her strength, for example), but doesn’t take kindly to disobedience or disloyalty and is undoubtedly evil, going out of his way to maim, kill, and conquer.
Edgar Cizko as Neutral Evil: Neutral evil characters are primarily concerned with themselves and their own advancement. They have no particular objection to working with others or, for that matter, going it on their own. Their only interest is in getting ahead. If there is a quick and easy way to gain a profit, whether it be legal, questionable, or obviously illegal, they take advantage of it. Although neutral evil characters do not have the every-man-for-himself attitude of chaotic characters, they have no qualms about betraying their friends and companions for personal gain. These characters willingly cooperate with anyone who will further their own ends. They often seek the easy road to fame and fortune, with little concern for the people they trample along the way. They value strength and ability alone. If the neutral evil can use laws to weaken those who stand in the way of his success, he will use them. He may betray a family member, comrade, or friend if it is convenient to do so and it advances his agenda. Dr. Psycho was fully willing to completely betray Harley over an offer of power, something that everyone else on the team viewed as reprehensible (this is why he’s the only one who i’d consider ‘evil’, btw, because king, clayface, harley, and ivy all value their friends/allies over power and control and view each other as friends wheras Dr. Psycho was willing to betray all of them even after everything they’d all gone through together). He does whatever it takes to elevate himself and goes out of his way to hurt people (like trying to take over the world or broadcasting revenge porn of harley and ivy into the sky).
The Joker as Chaotic Evil: As Harley said, he’s a sociopathic narcissist. As with all Chaotic Evil characters, he is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily violent, and unpredictable. Thankfully, these character’s plans are haphazard, and any groups they join or form are poorly organized. The Joker may be a ‘genius’ but he often fails to really think things through or execute plans successfully (I knowwww I said we were just analyzing this show and not the character’s other appearances but there’s such a good example from another show to what i mean when i say the joker isn’t as effective as he could be. remember when harley literally came closer to killing batman than joker did and improved his original plans? and the only reason batman survived was because joker threw her out a fucking window and screwed everything up? yeah.) He’s smart and powerful and rutheless and all that but he doesn’t think things through or organize his thoughts well enough. The major precepts of this alignment are freedom, randomness, and woe. Laws and order, kindness, and good deeds are disdained. Life has no value. By promoting chaos and evil, those of this alignment hope to bring themselves to positions of power, glory, and prestige in a system ruled by individual caprice and their own whim. The chaotic evil creature holds that individual freedom and choice is important, and that other individuals and their freedoms are unimportant if they cannot be held by the individuals through their own strength and merit. Thus, law and order rends to promote not individuals but groups, and groups suppress individual volition and success. The Joker abused his girlfriend ruthlessly, goes out of his way to hurt innocents, tries to kill people on a regular basis weather they deserve it or not, and generally goes out of his way to exert his power over other’s simply for the sake of proving he’s dominant to them.

Kylo? Fucking. Emo. Baby. Ren? Any H/Cs around their interactions? Or his opinions on what Hux is doing? Does Cal ever very specifically head-butt Kylo in the nose?
I’m answering this one first bc HOO BOY DOES CAL HAVE SOME THOUGHTS™ ABOUT KYLE RON
Cal finds him absolutely ridiculous and from their first meeting continuously finds ways to poke and prod at him. He thinks Ren’s temper is too quick, he’s an entitled brat, and his reasons for being in the First Order are shallow and pitiful.
He definitely doesn’t think Ren deserves the chance to become Supreme Leader (In fact, he doesn’t believe a force user should be the head of any functional government), and continuously needles him when context allows.
Oh, sure, when absolutely necessary he’ll show some reverence, but by the time he’s fully entrenched in the FO, he shares Hux’s opinions of Ren. He’s a sulking, spoiled child who takes his power and position for granted.
It doesn’t help that Cal despises him on principle bc Snoke’s original intention was to have Cal conditioned and then given to Ren like some kind of gift, an obedient second in command for him and possible apprentice, or even the start of the rebirth of the Inquisitorius.
Cal learns of this from Hux and his already low opinion of the Leader of the Knights of Ren drops even further at the idea of being commanded directly by him.
Of course, Ren is furious because Cal was supposed to be his, and Hux managed to snatch the last classically-trained Jedi out from under him. This colours a lot of his interactions with Cal and leads to Cal’s less-than-stellar opinion of him.
Ren finds Cal fascinating, especially in the early stages (Before Hux gets his claws sunk deep in the Jedi). His abilities are rare and extremely well-developed, he’s an expert fighter, and even before he’s cleared for sparring he demonstrates a deep knowledge of Jedi history.
Ren wants that. He wants to know everything Cal does, and Cal absolutely does not want to share any of his secrets.
Is there perhaps a time when they’re sparring and Cal decides “fuck this” and uses his psychometry? Yes. Is his reaction to this visceral and absolutely furious and directed at Ren? Yes.
Does Ren retaliate at a later date by using Cal’s psychometry against him (in a very uncharacteristic demonstration of tactical smarts)? Yes. Does this result in Cal with a scar and a deep distrust of Kylo Ren, driving Cal closer to Hux and leading to to a rift that splits the entire First Order in half?... maybe.
Kyle Ron is fascinated by Cal, but also painfully jealous and infuriated by his lack of respect.
Cal almost pities Ren, that he would sacrifice his entire family for power, that he is so conflicted but continues to make the wrong choices out of stubborn persistence.
But mostly he just thinks Ren’s an immature child.

Musing on Dune 2020 casting
Thinking back on the casting for the new remake of Dune (remake after remake after remake, really, you can’t find new material? but otoh Dune is one of those underrated book series that people shy away from and if it is getting a remake, I will gladly take the resurgence in interest) - it is actually pretty spot on.
While I am not happy with the beard - I think Duke Leto has more class than to wear a poodle on his face and any facial hair would be trimmed and sculpted into compliance -, Oscar Isaac himself actually makes a lot of sense. He radiates a quiet dignity and poise I remember from Prochnows interpretation and he has talent in spades.
Zendaya is actually how I always imagined Chani to be - maybe 5-8 years older and with a fuller figure, because the most prominent impression of her in my mind is from the time when Paul walks the desert, supposedly dead, and they had lived several years together already; when their son takes up the path his father abandoned - I believe, ca. somewhat before the events of Children of Dune.
Momoa has a certain appeal as Duncan Idaho, though personally I always saw him as more able to fade into the background, which Momoa will never be accused of; but he for sure is as pretty as Duncan was described and I can kinda-sorta see it.
For Gurney I actually prefer Sir PatStews casting above all - there probably never will be another Gurney good enough for me; but I also don’t dislike Brolin in that role. The choice for Jessica doesn’t ring a bell, so I will wait and see before forming an opinion on her.
The weakest casting choice is actually the babyface Chalamet. He might be outstanding. He might suck. At least he and Zendaya are close in age, so there won’t be any UncannyValley creepy age differences that were unintended. I just can’t really see him in this particular role. Hopefully his performance will convince me. (Yeah, I am somewhat hung up on Kyle McLachlan as Paul, even though he looks much older than Paul was supposed to be, if I remember correctly. But he delivered that impression of a steel-rod-spine that Muah’dib needed. I didn’t much care for the 2003 version of him either, though McAvoy first gained my attention in that particar remake).
Casting an asian actor as Dr. Yueh is infinitely preferable to the alternative, though his character is at best described as complicated. But it is a role with meat on it, a good actor has a lot to work with; and Dune is not exactly the material with black and white morals; so it actually doesn’t fall into the pitfalls of the casting logic of ATLA the movie whose existence I will deny to my grave.
I... am not really sure how Stellan Skarsgard as Vladimir and Dave Bautista as Rabban will work, esp. since I am somewhat flabbergasted with Bautistas choice, but I am certainly intrigued. As I am intrigued with the choice of Bardem for Stilgar and the choice for Liet-Kynes.
Really interested to see who they will cast as Feyd and Irulan - I loved 2003 Irulan and Sting had my adolescent self very confused for a long time because at the time I didn’t understand the concept of being attracted to a absolutely horrid person (by which I don’t mean that Sting is horrid, but that I couldn’t understand how I could simultaneously despise Feyd and be attracted to him because Sting played him - I was young, okay?).
And actually, when I look over the casting - there are a lot of POC-actors on the list, aren’t there? Actually, circling back to Duncan Idaho - I think someone like Godfrey Gao would make a stunning Idaho - the prettyness, the smooth operator navigating the court, the deadly sting when he literally charms the pants off of you, and the ability to fade into the background - I think I would have preferred someone less larger than life in that role and a lesser known Asian or Asian-American actor would fit that bill better and avoid the fringe casting that two decades before was reserved for black and latino actors. Ah, I will take what I can get and I am certainly glad that diversity casting means more nowadays than a sole black best friend or the sole black guy that gets killed first.

Background
Eirene was raised in the Land of Reason. Or, to be more precise, in the countryside of England. She, along with her mother, moved to London to live with her maternal grandparents. Eirene helped around the house, and even helped her grandfather with his small business of selling various wares.
She met Blanc not long after closing the shop, walking home, picking up his pocket watch when she noticed he dropped it by accident. Wanting to return the item back to its’ original owner, Eirene soon realized the man had left, running off in search of him.
She eventually finds him, calling out to the strange man, but he doesn’t hear her.
Blanc vanishes without a trace, seemingly falling down the rabbit hole that appeared suddenly. Has it always been there? Without thinking it through, Eirene follows him, her long, black locks whipping violently, her blouse rustling, as she descends quickly.
Something about this place felt familiar.
A sense of deja vu overcomes her.
Eirene was surprised to learn that she was born in Cradle. Her mother being from the Land of Reason, while her father was a native to Cradle. Erza Chapman, the name of the man who gave her life, was a kindred spirit, who drew everybody in. He helped anyone in need, and would give up the clothes he wore. Erza was one of the rare few who were born with the ability to harness magic, the magical energy he possessed was far greater, due to his royal lineage. After learning about his existence, the Magic Tower murdered him by extracting his soul. Luckily, Erza bidded Maryam and their newborn time to escape from Cradle through the portal connecting their worlds.
┈ ┈ ┈ ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟ ┈ ┈ ┈
Personality
Eirene is independent, she wants stability, and strives to work hard so that she doesn’t have to depend on the people around her, members of both armies can clarify this simple fact as they have given her odd jobs.
She is friendly with everyone, unless they give her a reason not to be. For instance, the night she found herself in the garden, Jonah wrongly accused her of trespassing. Eirene defended herself and told him she didn’t know, promptly apologizing for doing so.
She became angry, however, when he called her a liar. Eirene told him she didn’t have a reason to lie, and that she hated it when people never believed anything she says.
Her sudden change in attitude surprised him and Edgar, both. Jonah knew Eirene was being honest, right then. Her eyes held so much emotion within them, he apologized for his accusations, but didn’t let her leave.
Eirene is kind and caring to the point that she’ll help anyone who needs it, much like her father had, regardless of their social standings, or where they are from: be it the Red Territory, Central Quarter, or the Black Territory. She’ll defend them with every fiber of her being, having morals to abide by, and despises people who believe themselves to better than their neighbors. Eirene refused to side with either army when the two armies clashed against eachother, having come to love and respect both of the armies.
She’s easily forgiving and understanding, for Eirene forgave Edgar for threatening her into joining the Red Army, and refused to hold Ray accountable for it. She understood they had their reasons, and still cares about them.
Eirene is sensitive and overly emotional. Ray and Fenrir have both commented that she acts just like Sirius at times, being concerned about the wellfare of other people and always wanting to take care of them, so they dubbed her the nickname mother hen.
┈ ┈ ┈ ⋞ 〈 ⏣ 〉 ⋟ ┈ ┈ ┈
Relationships
The Red Army
Jonah Clemence ;
Eirene never liked Jonah when she first met him, believing him to be rude and egotistical. However, the more she got to know him better, the more her opinion about him changed. She admires his integrity, and makes it a habit of telling him so. She also compliments him on everything he does.
Eirene shares the same fondness of sweets with Jonah, something the two of them bonded over. She’ll go with him to the cafe whenever he’s not so busy with his duties.
Edgar Bright ;
Her instincts told her that Edgar couldn’t be trusted, especially after he forced her to join the Red Army by using threats against her.
They became friends after he makes it his mission to apologize by offering her his jelly beans as a peace offering, of sorts. Eirene forgave him, telling him she understood the reasoning behind his actions, even if he did scare her when they first met in the alley.
The two often play board or card games together, with her always being the loser. Edgar never let’s her live it down. He’s also aware she’s smitten with someone in Cradle.
Kyle Ash ;
Eirene shares many similarities with him, but wishes he could be a bit more sensitive. She values her friendship with him, and hangs out with him whenever he goes to the pub for drinks with Oliver and Blanc. The two are really close. She defends Kyle when the others tease him for his bad habit, and says she’s just as much of a lightweight as he is.
Eirene helps Kyle with his daily rounds in the Red Territory, the Central Quarter and in the Black Territory, where she meets and visits the members of the Black Army for chitchat.
Lancelot Kingsley ;
When Eirene was first brought to the Red Army Headquarters, he intimidated her. Or, at the very least, he tried to be, but she was firm against him. Like Jonah and Kyle, Eirene worries about his health. She wishes he takes better care of himself, but doesn’t try to pressure him. Though, Eirene will mother hen him into eating something light on his stomach, much to his utter surprise.
Eirene usually helps him with his paperwork, the typical work of a secretary (only if he allows her to help him), but she doesn’t take no for an answer and helps him, regardless.
Zero ;
Eirene thought Zero was kind when they first met. The two were kind of awkward, and barely spoke to one another. She wanted him to trust her, so she did everything she could possibly think of to get him to open up to her. They became good friends, eventually.
Neutral
Blanc Lapin ;
Eirene never blamed Blanc for the mishap of her descending into Cradle. She actually thanked him for it because she met so many wonderful people that she forged bonds with. Each and every friendship she made meant more to her anything else in her life.
Blanc knows about the secret her parents are keeping from her. Eirene is an anomaly of both worlds. Her conception has never been heard of before. It has been recorded by him.
Eirene visits him frequently for tea and cake.
Oliver Knight ;
Eirene thought Oliver was a child, and treated him as such. He immediately despised her because of it, and threw insults at her everytime they saw eachother. At one point, he unintentionally made her upset by making her believe he absolutely hated her.
To make it up to her, he allowed her to embrace him (only occasionally), whenever she came to visit Blanc every now and then.
Eirene eventually learned about his curse, but never judged him for it. In fact, she told him it isn’t something he can control, that it wasn’t his fault. She wanted to be his friend, and if he wasn’t comfortable with that, then just being around him is more than enough.
Loki Genetta ;
Her first impression: strange. Eirene thought he was strange. The way he carried himself, his mannerisms. He acted like an actual cat.
He had this strange fixation with her, tried getting her to open up to him. She supposed he dealt with people like her on a daily basis.
When he asked her to go on dates with him, Eirene rejected him politely, but said they could have fun on days she wasn’t helping Kyle, or anyone else around Cradle. Loki looked dejected, but agreed to be friends.
Their friendship continued to blossom the more they hung out together. Eirene still acted reserved, shy even. Especially whenever he dragged her to his shared home with Harr. Loki watched the spark of interest within her eyes come to life, saw the way her face lite up with a dark scarlet hue.
Eirene has an attraction for Harr, huh? Thus, a series of feline shenanigans began. There's an unrequited love that Loki has for Eirene.
Harr Silver ;
The moment Eirene first laid eyes on the reclusive man, her heart races inside her chest. It felt hotter than the typical warmer weather Cradle usually deals with. Loki kept staring at her with the most delighted expression she had ever seen. She didn’t particularly like the look he was giving her.
The mischievousness flashing within those heterochromia eyes made her nervous, and she was certain that Harr felt the same way.
The next time Eirene met Harr, Loki brought her to the Lake of Tears, where said wizard had been occupying for several hours. She sat little ways from Harr, placing her hands on her lap. The awkward silence between them was deafening, but Eirene felt content just being there with him. She attempts small talk, elated that Harr responded to her.
The third time Eirene met Harr, Loki invited her over to their house, purposely pushing her up against Harr while making excuses about having to go on an errand. The two awkwardly stood there until Harr offered tea.
Their relationship continued that way. With Loki scheming, and both Eirene and Harr finding themselves in awkward or embarrassing situations. She gets to know Harr little by little, bringing pastries or apricotes for them to share when he’s fishing. She learned he loved apricotes that day and, with Luka’s help, baked him an apricote cake and a few apricote pastries.
They completely opened up to one another, after a month passed, doing little things Loki knew were signs that Harr returned Eirene’s feelings. It took him several attempts to get them to admit their feelings to one another.
They lounged around the Lake of Tears one afternoon, Loki purposely pushed Eirene off the small rock she stood on with his magic. She ended up falling on top of Harr, their lips connecting in that moment, causing the two of them to blush in embarrassment. Loki watches them from the sidelines, grinning.
Mousse Atlas ;
The former Ace of Hearts visited Eirene days after Edgar brought her to the Red Army, bombarding her with all sorts of questions about the Land of Reason. She answered each question truthfully, and then told him she was enjoying her stay in Cradle. The two would occasionally meet in the Central Quarter for a cup of tea and pastries while he asked her more questions about where she came from. They ended up becoming such good friends. After defeating her cousin in battle, Mousse offers to be her ambassador after she reclaims the crown.
Dean Tweedle ;
Eirene has met Dean a couple of times, but hasn't tried engaging more than a few conversations with him. She does enjoy hearing him tell stories about his students.
The Black Army
Sirius Oswald ;
Sirius knows about Eirene’s feelings for his childhood friend, Harr Silver. He even encourages her to try to get to know him, but warns her that Harr isn’t used to women.
Sirius hired Eirene after the war against the Red Army. The two are really close, and completely trust one another. Eirene works for him as a volunteer (in her perspective), rather than an hourly worker. He still pays her, no matter how much she declines lin.
Seth Hyde ;
Seth immediately gotten himself attached to Eirene the moment they met. He helps her lack of sense for fashion by helping her pick out dresses, shoes, and accessories to go along with her attire. He compliments her beauty, and always wants to dress her up.
Eirene taught Seth how to stitch one day, he kept jabbing himself with the needle, and Eirene cleaned and bandaged his wounds.
Fenrir Godspeed ;
Eirene harbored a crush for Fenrir after meeting him. She thought he was beautiful (until she met Jonah), and liked his charming personality. Her crush for Fenrir eventually wore off, and she came to view him as nothing more than a great friend.
Ray Blackwell ;
In her opinion, Ray should have sent one of the Thirteen to guard her. Instead, he sent a lower ranking soldier with her to the Centeral Quarter. His decision ultimately lead to her immediate capture by Edgar.
Eirene doesn’t hold Ray accountable, and said she forgave him after the war ended.
At one point, Ray and Fenrir drags her down to mischief hell, roping her in on their pranking other members of the Black Army.
Luka Clemence ;
Eirene had a tough time getting close to Luka. With her persistence, Luka eventually opened up to her, allowing friendship to grow. She always helped him with cooking.
Eirene developed her cooking skills through him, and he couldn’t be any more prouder.
Magic Tower
Amon Jabberwock ;
Amon wanted to use Eirene for his devious plots of ruling the Land of Reason, Cradle, and beyond their country. His magic crystal reserves weren't equivalent to her magical prowess, but her magic wasn't enough to combat against the magic he stole from her father: whose soul he infused into himself.
Eirene despises Amon for making the people she cared about suffer for selfish reasons.
Dalim Tweedle ;
Eirene immediately disliked Dalim, finding his attitude annoying. When he tried capturing her by the orders of Amon, she gave him a piece of her mind and kept defending herself against his magic and the spells from the other disciples. He told her that he wanted to be the one to experiment on her, but then said Amon would be livid if he ever said that where he can hear him.
After Amon's defeat, Eirene decided to give Dalim a second chance by letting him continue working in the tower as long as Harr was the new leader if he chose to be.

Additional Information
The beauty mark Eirene inherited from her father is a trademark of the Chapman family.
Eirene is sometimes seen carrying Ginger around, or she has Ginger in a carrier. Eirene never walks the fennec fox on a leash, despite Jonah’s insistent nagging about his concerns that Ginger might harm Pineapple.
Her favorite colors are gold and royal purple.
Her favorite dessert is red velvet cake, especially if Luka is the one who makes it for her. He bakes it for her birthday every year.
Eirene hates the aftertaste of bitter alcohol.
Eirene inherited the capability to use magic from her father due to the high amplitude for the art that passed through the Chapman family for generations. Due to her mother being from the Land of Reason, her defensive magic is extremely powerful.

I want to talk about some of the human side of what we saw in 1x12, so far as morality goes. Because we get some really excellent examples of what is at the core of some of the human characters and how it speaks to the “ideal” of each of their professions, and I want to get into it. CW for discussion of torture, abuse, and genocide.
This gets long so I’m putting a break.
We’ll start with Liz. The truth-seeker. She is a scientist, and at the heart of science (and by association, those who practice it) is curiosity. There doesn’t have to be a good reason as to why, so long as the question “can it be done” is answered.
But Liz specifically works in the biomedical field, which means she has a strict set of rule to adhere to in order to prevent harm. She would be very familiar with moral guidelines around human (and animal) subjects. In the biomedical code of ethics, the number one direction under professional obligations is to use “knowledge, skills, and abilities to enhance the safety, health, and welfare of the public.” (Find a complete list here.)
Within the scientific field there is also a distinction about “life”, sentient life is treated differently. There are separate rules for how to conduct experiments with plants versus mammals. It comes down to self-awareness and cognitive ability, but suffice it to say that moral and ethical regulations exist specifically to protect these subjects. In a perfect world of medical science, experiments are conducted without any harm coming to the participants, and the results are used to further the ability to help people.
Liz doesn’t get as much focus in 1x12 but there is one scene that is critical to her character and how she fits into the scientific ideal. In fact it comes down to one line: “My serum is right now killing a living thing capable of fear.” x
This is Liz acknowledging that Noah, as a non-human, has sentience. (She has indisputable proof because she is literally mentally connected to him.) She is giving Noah the same moral consideration that she would a human subject. As any good scientist should. But more importantly, this is Liz taking direct responsibility for Noah’s imminent death. “My serum”. Not only is she the one who injected him with it (in self defense tbf), she is the one who created it. In her own words she never meant for it to be used, but it doesn’t change the fact that she is the reason it exists.
During her interview in 1x05 it is revealed that the type of research Liz is involved with deals with regenerative study; she’s focused on healing. (This kind of science, healing what others believe to be irreparable, is important to me.) The fact that Liz, who has every conceivable reason to want Noah dead, is applying this focus to him as well is extremely indicative of her resolve to stand for her morals, and the morals of the biomedical field of study.
Now for Kyle. The healer. He is a doctor, specifically a surgeon. He went to medical school. He most likely would have taken some kind of physician’s oath when he graduated, to the effect of how to adhere to a code when practicing medicine. (There are actually several different oaths, but the most famous is the Hippocratic Oath. Find the full text here.) He also would have been taught medical ethics in school which has four main pillars of ideals, the most well known being “First, do no harm”. (Find more details here.)
These things speak to the absolute core of the medical profession; about what it means to be a doctor. Both the oath and the ethics principles emphasize the care of the patient above all else.
We saw in Kyle’s interaction with Isobel in 1x08 that he very staunchly believes in upholding medical morals; when you have a patient, you treat them to the best of your ability. End of story. We also see him, very early in the season, tell off Jesse Manes for trying to get him to break doctor patient confidentiality. Kyle works very hard to conform to the moral code he was taught, the medical ideal. Fundamentally, Kyle is a good doctor.
When he and Michael enter room 7A, what he sees are living beings that have been in captivity for decades. Michael quickly confirms they are aliens, but Kyle reacts the way he has been trained to anyway: evaluate and diagnose. (Their bodies are covered in bruises, scarring, needle tracks. Anti-social behavior indicates prolonged trauma.) He is aware however, that these people are subjects because they are not human. (Note his first reaction when they hear someone coming is to hide Michael.)
But all he sees are patients, regardless of species. In his conversation with the unnamed guard, Kyle calls subject N38 “he”. The guard uses “it”. A minor difference, but an extremely important one.
Kyle sees the aliens as living beings deserving of the same considerations he gives to humans. The guard does not.
Kyle recognizes that what has been going on in Caulfield for 70 years is inhumane and goes against every code of medical ethics he has ever been taught. Which is why, when Flint verifies that his father was a participant in the project, Kyle immediately condemns his actions. x
Kyle applies the same ethical principles to the aliens that he does to his human patients, like any good doctor should. And when he learns that his father did not do the same, he rejects him. As Kyle has been investigating his father’s death for most of the season, this is a major indication of exactly how much he believes in and upholds the codes of his profession.
Last but not least, Alex. The protector. He is an airman in the US Air Force, a member of the US military. The armed forces exist, ideally, to defend and serve their countries. This is why people like Alex are called “service members”. Admittedly warfare is by nature violent, and people get hurt. Alex talks about this at the end of the episode, “...you look around and you realize that the evil is you.” He has enough sense to recognize the faults the military has.
But because of this fault, this very real danger of crossing moral lines that don’t exist in the heat of battle, there are rules. The Geneva Conventions, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Articles of War before that, and countless international treaties exist to prevent war crimes.
Ideally, the only people who should be in danger during a war are active enemy combatants. Civilians and prisoners of war are explicitly protected groups.
It is part of Alex’s job to be informed on these issues, and during his conversation with Flint it’s clear he knows his stuff. “Bioweapons are banned by international treaty” is Alex explicitly referencing a UN regulation to Flint, in reaction to seeing a prototype for a smart bomb that targets DNA. But it’s the next line that is the most revealing about Alex’s personal mindset. Flint tries to argue that the UN doesn’t have a say when it comes to an alien enemy (The UN’s jurisdiction ends at the ozone layer) and Alex disagrees in no uncertain terms (The jurisdiction on genocide?).
(You guys I’m so sorry, this isn’t my gif but I could not for the life of me find a source for it.)
Alex is viewing the alien survivors as civilians. Flint is viewing them as an active hostile force.
We know from Noah’s explanation at the beginning of the episode that the aliens are quite literally refugees fleeing a war, but Alex doesn’t know that yet. (Even if they were an invading force, they are clearly imprisoned now and should fall under the protection of the Geneva Conventions. Find the POW provisions here.) The fact that Alex is applying the regulations that exist to protect humans to aliens as well speaks very strongly to his sense of justice and moral right.
tl;dr In 1x12 each of these three characters prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they consider the aliens to be deserving of treatment and consideration equal to that of humans, despite two of them having very good reasons to despise them. (Interestingly these are not the same two who have romantic/sexual relationships with said aliens.) Doing so also emphasizes how each of them fulfill the ideals of each of their professional roles and I think it makes for a very telling character study.

Home: the Underworld
Personality/Traits: Thanatos is obviously undiscriminating. He is quite morbid even though he is the God of Peaceful Death. He favors the idea of omnicide (human extinction, which plays a big role in the story obviously) He shares a mutual hate for the other Gods and Goddesses as well as mortals. He doesn’t like spending time with his family. He likes all things quiet and peaceful believe it or not. As the God of Death, he hates the idea of people losing their lives violently, which is why he absolutely despises his sister Keres.
Quote: “To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure. The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at anytime.”

I got into a civil debate with a kyman shipper about Cartman secretly crushing on Kyle, but what worries me is that said person confuses sadistic lust and a hate filled obsession with love. Idk I just find that kind of worrying? Of course not all kyman shippers, but this specific one didn't really know the difference. Like they were using what happened in Imaginationland as proof of romantic feelings...how. I don't hate said person, it's just very...worrying
ugh. so this particular ask has been sitting in my inbox for.. honestly i can’t even remember. two weeks? probably more. and it’s cos there was something very specific i wanted to articulate and i’m not sure i’ve necessarily found the right words but i really want to have this answered so lets hope i find them along the way
anyway, i think that’s what’s particularly bothersome to me about the idea that cartman is capable of having a healthy, loving relationship w anyone, least of kyle; cartman approaches everything through a lens of competition and domination. we literally just had an entire season of this with heidi – . she remarks at one point that a relationship isn’t 50/50 but 100/100, which is a nice sentiment if your partner had ever once brought 50% to begin with. cartman’s relationship was one of self-preservation and convenience; she had been exiled from the inner circle of kids through social media around the same time as cartman. they were both experiencing this kind of isolation, so to cope, they do it together. even then in season 20 there are obvious misgivings on cartman’s part about his feelings for heidi in the last few episodes, suggesting that a lot of his transformation was merely performative as a method of blending in and trying to soothe his ego by working his way back into the spotlight by behaving in a way that’s socially advantageous. but once cartman *is* back to his normal spot within the group, that’s when his relationship with heidi sours, and when an entire season of manipulation and gaslighting begins. christ, he tried multiple times to literally have heidi killed. worse yet, seemed appalled at the suggestion that stan, kyle, and kenny wouldn’t help him do it, or by kyle’s indignant plea that he just break up with her and leave heidi alone. there was no need for cartman to get heidi off her vegan diet. i think he just wanted to see if he could, and he did, b/c cartman can’t help but act maliciously when presented w someone who is so completely and totally under his thumb b/c his desire is not rooted in being someone’s equal. it’s in being superior, being dominant, being the one to come out on top in even the most mundane or self-created form of competition.
take for example cartman’s fixation w rape: it’s obvious cartman doesn’t necessarily see his mother as an autonomous human being but rather an object that serves him, and i think that’s the root of his anxiety in “insecurity” at the idea of a stranger breaking into his home and assaulting his mother – b/c he views it as an act of degradation against his property, not out of genuine concern for liane. in the first coon episode, cartman see two grown adults who, by every possible indication, are on a date that is going very well. the man asks her consent to kiss her, and when he does, that’s when cartman comes out of the woodwork to stop this supposed crime. it’s an obvious joke about cartman’s delusions of grandeur in being a so-called vigilante in that he isn’t actually thwarting any real crime or even the threat of it, but it’s interesting to note that cartman views even the most innocuous of romantic situations as an assault. in tfbw, when doctor timmy uses his psychic powers on cartman, he remarks that timmy is “raping [his] mind.” he has an extremely warped view of sex and romantic relationships. there’s more but i don’t have the time to comb through and list them.
there’s a lot of arguments surrounding whether or not cartman is capable of change, and i think the answer is a very plain no. do i think there’s potential in tempering some of the more extreme aspects of his personality? sure, it’s possible i guess. but as far as the brunt of who cartman is, no. it’s the entire purpose of his character. matt and trey have said this time and time again – cartman is meant to represent the very worst not only in themselves but in anyone. in people. cartman is the human embodiment of id. you are not supposed to think positively or cartman.. the ten yr old obese nazi murder child is not to be revered; it’s the antithesis of his character. and yeah, kyle often has a naive optimism that cartman can change, but this has less to do with any positive feelings he has toward cartman and more an example of kyle’s compassion being illustrated as a situational flaw. he’s been betrayed enough times that he should know better by now than to trust in cartman’s ability to act in an altruistic or considerate way, yet that belief in compassion is vital to kyle’s moral outlook, so he keeps believing despite all evidence to the contrary. and he’s not alone! ii know a lot of people reject this not out of a love of cartman but more of a basic sympathetic belief that everyone is capable of change – which is a noble mindset! and at it’s core i believe that. human plasticity is incredible, and there are a lot of really great and sincere activism done around helping people reform and repent vile and oppressive mindsets, but south park is not reality – you treat reality within the context of societal norms of the show. neither will cartman ever have access to any such kind of therapy or behavioral rehabilitation. he is too far gone. it began and ended w scott tenorman; there’s no reformation after that. i can’t believe i’ve seen people argue that “well, he didn’t actually -kill- scott’s parents!” as if that, like, makes the act of him desecrating their dead bodies and grinding them up into raw meat and then feeding the remains to their child (also, his half-brother) more palatable. i believe this was a very deliberate hole matt and trey dug themselves into; up until that point cartman had mostly just been an ignorant, mean-spirited bully, so transforming his character by having him orchestrate something so genuinely evil, he has carte blanche to be as vile and disgusting as their hearts desire
now. this is what’s especially worrying about his relationship w kyle. we’ve seen time and time again that cartman fosters a genuine distrust and dislike and actively enjoys seeing him fail – specifically if he can be the one to make it happen. this isn’t necessarily what i think, but it’s something i’ve seen suggested and i don’t think it’s outlandish to believe cartman could have some sadistic, pyschosexual fixation on kyle given my previous assertions wrt his views on sex, love, his relationship w heidi – but that’s all it could be. it’s a violent, selfish, purely physical fixation b/c, above all else, cartman is in a constant competition with kyle and it doesn’t end until cartman is utterly bested and brought to his knees or he wins. kyle is his rival, and as that, cartman has an innate responsibility to oppose kyle at every turn and try to bring about his downfall. even if they’re capable of being neutral, or even friendly, those times are few and far, the truce is always broken, and doesn’t come close to just how often cartman delights in seeing kyle victimized by none other than cartman himself. remember humancentipad. remember ginger cow. remember imaginationland – which trey parker has said himself on the commentary that cartman’s obsession with having kyle suck his balls was not out of some secret romantic desire but was an obvious and explicit act of dehumanization and humiliation. not to mention cartman’s racism and anti-semitism, and the endless degradation kyle experiences on a daily basis for being jewish. cartman despises something so innate and so personal and wholly woven into the very essence of who kyle is, it’s beyond me how anyone thinks this is something kyle could see past this or something cartman would want to have anything to do with other than destroy it (which, again, he has tried. lol)
it really, honestly, truly baffles me that anyone thinks cartman 1.) could have positive romantic feelings for kyle or that 2.) cartman and kyle would be capable of having anything other than a strictly unhealthy, malevolent, abusive relationship. and it’s more baffling (and, yes, very worrying) that someone could so blatantly remain oblivious or misconstrue that level of obsession with a genuine romantic partnership
tl;dr: yeah that’s very worrying, cartman is incapable of genuine love, some people are unable to change and he’s one of them, cartman’s desires are always selfish and self-serving in nature, he and kyle would never have a romantic relationship and if they did it would be an absolute unbridled disaster of sadism and victimization, it’s 3:08 a.m and i’m going to bed

Quick Shifts: Reluctant DJ Marner reveals Maple Leafs’ new win song
An easy mix of the things our company learnt from the full week of hockey, major as well as much less thus, and also rolling four-lines deep. Typed with one palm while Dmitry Kulikov pulled us down to the ice.
1. Due to the fact that I spend an unhealthy amount of your time dealing with trivial matters that has little bearing on the real outcome of hockey video games, some of my very first ideas once the Toronto Maple Leafs permit both Jake Gardiner and also Nazem Kadri go over the summer season was: However who is actually mosting likely to be actually the dressing-room DJ now?
For many years, Gardiner cued up the club's morning-skate playlist and Kadri cranked up the beats for pre-game.
Switches out, no person intended to inherit the job.
"Our experts are actually making Mitchy do it this year," says Auston Matthews, after Thursday's strategy. "It's been hit-and-miss."
Matthews looks to his teammate: "Our team merely compelled ya. You just toss on the top charts and also let it run?"
"Top charts in to hip-hop," Marner shoots back. "Absolute bangers."
I talk to for an instance of the tracks that work along with the group.
"Absolutely nothing works. They regularly criticize," Marner mentions, defeated. "Regardless of what track acquires participated in, everyone detests it."
So, was Kadri a far better crew DJ?
"I can not offer Nazzy that. He had some tough goes there," Matthews smiles. "If you're the individual doing the popular music, you are actually screwed. You're constantly in the incorrect. Either the popular music's certainly not playing, the Bluetooth's not functioning, or it's a poor song ... it resembles a no-win scenario. Someone's received ta do it."
Marner it is.
"I obtained howled at to snatch my phone and play popular music, so whatever. I only put on a broadcast station on my app as well as say to everyone to pull it up. I am actually scarcely in the room until 26 mins [up until puck reduce] I do not take requests. I do not care," clarifies Marner, the reluctant selector.
"Article Malone's regularly excellent. It relies on the state of mind. I saw him in 2015 listed here, in the summer. He's excellent real-time. I such as all categories.
"I am actually not as well particular along with my music. On a lengthy bus ride, I can remain on my phone and also play music and merely cool."
Ironically, it was Kadri's replacement, Tyson Barrie, that assisted promote the 2-0 Maple Leafs' brand-new gain song they crank after a W.
"It's phoned 'Hot,' through Youthful Troublemaker," Marner mentions. "Tyson was the one that actually carried it up, as well as a pair people spoke about it. Youthful Hooligan performs a complete operate by means of this closet room immediately. It is actually receiving played on my phone very a little."
Incentive Beat! 6 performers Matthews plays in his headphones as he walks into the ring: Youthful Criminal, Drake, Future, DaBaby, Lil Child, Gunna.
"At the very least the music's a bit louder [during the course of warm-ups] this year. In 2013 it was extremely quiet," Matthews mentions. "Individuals were actually whining that it was actually too loud, yet our team're the ones participating in, so I believe they bumped it up a little. And our experts have actually had the ability to ask for tracks, so it is actually been actually a whole lot a lot better this year."
2. Shed in the shade of Jason Spezza obtaining healthy-scratched for the Walnut Leafs' time opener was actually the happy-news tale for his substitute, Scar Coast.
At age 27, the depth forward combated back to the NHL after an one-year respite in Magnitogorsk, where he placed up 16 aspects in 37 KHL activities.
"You can only chat to a handful of fellas in the storage locker room," he said of his winter season in Russia. "The coach is actually up on the panel, and he's certainly not speaking English. That is actually a little bit of a surprise at very first.
"It's a various experience. There is actually a considerable amount of positives you may apply for of it, yet at the end of the time I am actually satisfied to be actually back."
Toronto connected to Shore practically quickly after Metallurg was eliminated from the playoffs as well as told the journeyman they preferred him to simply play his activity-- inspection, succeed face-offs, begin a lot of your shifts in the defensive zone, don't anticipate a lot of mins.
"The moment I heard this was an opportunity, I was actually prepared to go," Coast claims. "Anytime you possess an odds to come to an association such as this, kinda inside out, it's one thing you acquired ta be actually definitely thrilled to perform."
Bank knows that many veterans, especially depth gamers, that jump from 3 different NHL crews in a solitary season just before finishing up overseas certainly never create it back to the highest degree.
"Among things you discover over there is actually, do not take anything for approved," he claims. "Thus when you obtain a possibility similar to this, you acquired ta maximize it."
3. Leafs instructor Mike Babcock changed out fourth-liner Coast for Spezza for Friday's gain in Columbus. He likewise got rid of third-line winger Dmytro Timashov in favour of Nic Petan and also bottom-pair defenceman Martin Marincin for Justin Holl, presumably on his swan song to catch as a Fallen leave.
Shore, Timashov as well as Marincin return to activity Saturday versus the Montreal Canadiens.
A rotation of bubble players are practically extending practices in to October, until the Walnut Leafs' mentoring workers feels positive in the group.
"We don't possess the responses; our team're attempting to find 'em," Babcock stated.
Babcock hired this exact same strategy a married couple autumns once attempting to select Calle Rosen versus Andreas Borgman and Eric Fehr versus Dominic Moore.
We such as the turning tip. It always keeps gamers clean and also starving, and supplies our company outside along with debate. Why hurry to wrap up when personal injuries and ruts could will place any kind of lineup in motion anyhow?
Still, it's tough certainly not to check out Spezza's Game 1 scrape as a pointer that Babcock is actually visiting carry out things his technique, harmed feelings be actually damned.
"Mike and also I are actually one hundred per-cent on the very same web page," mentioned GM Kyle Dubas, talking to that reviewers stand by to evaluate these decisions till time's end rather than censuring pictures. "Mike possessed his rationale and also reasoning. I know it's unsatisfying for Jason, and I completely understand. I obtain why it is actually a dialogue."
Jason Spezza states he's never rested a property opener before. "It is actually unsatisfactory."

4. At $2.1 thousand, Connor Brown was as well pricey for the Leafs' fourth pipe.
Now, he's a bargain on the Ottawa Senators' best trio, to the right of franchise foundation Colin White as well as Brady Tkachuk.
"It is actually enjoyment. I have actually regularly been a fella that would like to contribute offensively. That is actually, in all trustworthiness, the enjoyable part of the video game," Brown states.
"Brady as well as Whitey, my two lineys here, I failed to really understand a lot regarding them, coming from all of them being actually young in the game, and they each possess a considerable amount of capability. Whitey has a ton of rate, and Chucky, I was actually surprised along with how excellent his palms are actually and just how well he finds the video game and his capability to make plays. They're mosting likely to be quite great players for a very long time."
Comical just how quick a gamer's situation may change based on utilization. If Brown, a favourite of trainer D.J. Smith, may thrive in his brand new repulsive part, he might be actually in for a juicy salary increase hereafter, another platform period.
"Brownish Cow is actually a guy who we really love. You despise to find a man who is actually coming from Toronto, that likes being right here, leave, but it's the financial resources in the video game," Babcock said. "That's merely the fact."
Congrats to #Sens ahead Connor Brown that has earned the 100th point of his @NHL job along with a support on tonight's game-opening goal in Toronto.

5. In recent projects, the Walnut Leafs was among those rare clubs that failed to circulate a player-of-the game token after a victory.
This period, they revealed a fairly distinct one:

... and along with chuckling:
Sorry about the flaw. We are actually still knowing exactly how to twitter update with our champion bands on. #stlblues

7. At the danger of hammering the John Tavares captaincy drum once again, the web links in between him and the descent of previous Toronto captains is actually something.
Darryl Sittler and also Wendel Clark went to Wednesday's opener to applaud him in-person. Doug Gilmour penned an open letter to Tavares upon hearing the news. And also the previous captain, unsigned Dion Phaneuf, along with whom Tavares dipped into the planet champion, connected via content.
"He sent a truly, really pleasant notification just mentioning just how exclusive it is actually to be actually a captain listed below and to participate in for this metropolitan area," pointed out Tavares.
As a young person, Tavares also fulfilled another Leafs leader, George Armstrong.
"It is actually definitely awesome to state I reached satisfy him and also be around him even at that grow older."
8. Dylan Larkin only backs products he relies on. He also performs an extreme quantity of stretching while using gown trousers.
this is actually the type of targeting marketing i would like to see from the NHL pic.twitter.com/If18tSW9QF
-- cayce (@cayceonthego) October 2, 2019
9. Patric as well as Helena Sandin took flight from Sweden to consume their boy Rasmus's NHL debut.
"They sacrificed a lot for me when I was actually much younger, so I assume it suggests a great deal to all of them also. They want the greatest for me and my bro, so they're incredibly pleased for our team," claimed Sandin, just before rewarding them with a help and also a gain.
Post-game, the teenage phenom admitted there was actually a moment during some of his shifts where he had to inquire himself if he was awake.
"It's heading to remain in my scalp at all times," he stated. "I'll remember this permanently."
10. Because our experts stated KHL star and Minnesota Wild prospect Kirill Kaprizov recently, our experts kinda thought our experts will packed our Kirill Kaprizov percentage for an although.
Then he went out as well as racked up three goals in a period of eight minutes as well as 35 seconds. Receive this child in the NHL. Permit's pack up the Central Branch much more.

11. A couple of exciting notes about Alex DeBrincat's three-year agreement expansion ($6.4 million AAV) along with the Chicago Blackhawks:
- Thus most of the other link bargains authorized through younger stars over the past month, DeBrincat's salary spikes in the 3rd time, to $9 thousand, ensuring his certifying deal is going to be actually a juicy one.
- His offer will definitely run out in 2022, the exact same summer season pros Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews as well as Duncan Keith all come off the manuals and also the hat is anticipated to hop. Can be a significant switching point for the franchise.
The Pussy-cat is actually BACK!
Alex DeBrincat has actually signed a 3-year agreement extension that jogs by means of the 2022-23 time, with an AAV of $6,400,000. #Purr #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/rF4ztP9YON

American Horror Story: Every Character That Evan Peters Played
WhileAmerican Horror Story reinvents itself every season, one thing stays the same - Evan Peters always has a role, until now. The actor has appeared in Ryan Murphy's horror anthology since the series began in 2011. The ninth season, American Horror Story: 1984, debuts in September, although it will mark the first installment without Peters.
Peters has been a prominent cast member in AHS since the show was first introduced. The young actor has served as a primary character in the majority of the seasons. In many cases, Peters has portrayed more than one character and he has a history of reprising previous roles for interconnected seasons. Peters had an admirable acting career prior to American Horror Story but after teaming up with Murphy, the actor truly made a name for himself. Besides AHS, Peters has also starred in Murphy's fellow FX series, Pose.
RELATED: American Horror Story: Every Character That Angela Bassett Played
American Horror Story viewers were surprised to hear Peters would be absent from season 9 considering he's been a mainstay for the series. Peters has stated he's taking a break from acting and he planned to sit the season out. It's very likely Peters will return for the confirmed tenth season and possible future installments. As we await his AHS return, let's take a look back at Peter's history in the horror series.
When Peters made his American Horror Story debut, he portrayed the troublesome teenager, Tate Langdon. He was originally thought to be a distraught patient of Ben Harmon and the love interest of Violet Harmon. In reality, he was a ghost who was trapped inside the Murder House. It was later revealed Tate carried out a school shooting years prior, something his mother, Constance, tried to keep hidden from the Harmons. Violet rejected Tate after learning the truth. Over the course of the season, Tate killed multiple people as the Rubber Man and raped Vivien Harmon, Ben's wife and Violet's mother. The birth led to Vivien's death and the child went on to become the Antichrist.
Peters returned for AHS season 2 to play Kit Walker, the man sent to Briarcliff after he was wrongfully accused of being Bloody Face. His wife Alma was reportedly one of his victims but she was actually abducted by aliens. During his time at the asylum, he became a subject of experimentation by the hands of Dr. Arden. Kit became romantically involved with fellow patient Grace, and they ended up having a child together. He also helped Lana Winters expose the true Bloody Face killer, Dr. Thredson. The truth exonerated Kit and he was able to live his life with Grace and their child until he found out his first wife was still alive and recently had his child. The trio tried to live in a polyamorous relationship but that arrangement turned deadly. Kit raised his two kids but he was later re-abducted by aliens after he developed a form of cancer.
In American Horror Story: Coven, Peters played a smaller part in the role of Kyle Spencer. Kyle was a college student and the leader of a fraternity. He had big dreams for his future and he was relieved to finally get out of his poverty-stricken neighborhood and abusive home. Kyle was killed when Madison caused a bus crash involving the fraternity members. Madison and Zoe put his body back together using a spell but he lost the ability to speak. Kyle also suffered from murderous rages so he was appointed the guard of the coven at Miss Robichaux's Academy. He was romantically involved with both Madison and Zoe but he eventually chose the latter. Kyle ended up becoming the butler for the Academy when the season ended.

Peters portrayed Jimmy Darling in AHS season 4. Jimmy was the son of Ethel and Dell, two performers in Elsa's Freak Show. He was born with hands that resembled lobster claws so he was known as "Lobster Boy." He dreamed of the day he could leave the freak show and live a normal life. Jimmy became romantically involved with Maggie after the duo worked together to free the victims of Twisty the Clown. After Ethel was killed, Jimmy fell into a dark depression. To make matters worse, he was accused of carrying out a mass murder Dandy committed and his hands were severed. Jimmy later received wooden prosthetics resembling his claw hands. He eventually teamed up with Desiree, Bette, and Dot to get revenge of Dandy for killing their friends. Jimmy ended up marrying both Bette and Dot.
In American Horror Story: Hotel, Peters played James Patrick March, the wealthy businessman turned serial killer. He constructed the Hotel Cortez in the 1920s and designed it to carry out his killings. After one of his murders, he decided to commit the killings based on the Ten Commandments. Mr. March was also romantically involved with the Countess but she never returned the feelings. The Countess turned Mr. March into the authorities so he had no choice but to kill himself in his office. His spirit remained in the hotel and he made a deal with the Countess so he could carry out his murders. He made Detective John Lowe his successor as the Ten Commandments Killer. Every year on Devil's Night, Mr. March hosted a special dinner for dead serial killers.
Peters pulled double duty in Roanoke playing two separate characters. First, it was Edward Philipe Mott, the wealthy aristocrat, and ancestor of Freak Show's Dandy Mott. He was the original owner of the Roanoke house Matt and Shelby later moved into. The real Edward ended up being locked in the cellar and killed by Roanoke colonists. Peters played the character through the reenactment special featured on AHS, titled My Roanoke Nightmare. This version of Edward was played by Rory Monahan, Peters' second role in the season. Rory agreed to return with the cast and their real-life counterparts to the follow-up show, Return to Roanoke. He never believed the supernatural accounts but he ended up being killed by deadly spirits during production.
Peters was an absolute gamechanger for American Horror Story: Cult, playing a total of seven characters. His primary character was Kai Anderson, a deranged young man who led a cult after the 2016 Presidential Election. Kai used fear to win people over and manipulated the media into supporting his efforts. He ran for city council after getting sympathetic support from the community. During that time, he was targeting Ally, one of his brother's patients but she ended up outwitting the cult leader. Ally was always one step ahead and had the FBI raid Kai's cult headquarters. She later set up an interaction between the two which got Kai killed.
Related: American Horror Story: Every Evan Peters Character, Ranked
Throughout the season, Peters also portrayed a number of cult leaders and other important figures in a series of flashbacks and visions. He tried to teach his followers the success of former cults so he recounted well-known historical leaders in his mind. Peters played Marshall Applewhite, David Koresh, Jim Jones, and Charles Mansion. The actor also portrayed Jesus and Andy Warhol in the season.
Peters introduced two new characters to American Horror Story: Apocalypse. First, he played Mr. Gallant, an eccentric hairdresser that resided in Outpost 3 during the apocalypse. He arrived there with his grandmother, Evie, who he despised. Mr. Gallant had a few foul run-ins with Michael Langdon (aka the Antichrist) and Rubber Man before he was poisoned and killed. Peters also played Jeff Pfister, a scientist that built Michael's robotic caretaker. Jeff also helped chose the occupants that were sent to Outpost 3 prior to the apocalyptic events.
Besides Mr. Gallant and Jeff, Peters brought back two former American Horror Story characters from previous seasons. Peters reprised his role as Mr. March for a sequence involving Queenie. The witch was previously killed at Hotel Cortez so her spirit remained there. Queenie spent her time playing cards with Mr. March until Cordelia, the current Supreme. arrived to rescue her but she was unsuccessful. Michael later showed up and brought her out of the spirit world much to Mr. March's disappointment. Peters also reappeared as Tate when Madison and Behold traveled to the Murder House to get information about Michael. They learned about Michael's origin and that Tate rejected the notion of being the boy's father. The entire Harmon family were stuck in the Murder House as ghosts but Violet still ignored Tate's presence. After he saved Vivien, Violet had a change of heart and reconciled with Tate.

Recapping the Sixers’ Wild Free Agency
Free agency is the most manic, drama-filled period on the NBA calendar. And this year certainly didn’t disappoint in both its overall activity and potential paradigm shifting. Brooklyn is now the center of the basketball world in New York. The Knicks had the summer of nightmares. The Jazz are looking like legitimate contenders in the West. And the Celtics didn’t have the dream offseason they thought they’d have (lol).
Oh, and we still don’t even have a decision from a certain Kawhi Leonard. If you haven’t heard, he’s pretty good at basketball.
The Sixers found themselves in the middle of all this. Everyone knew what was at stake this time around. Three-fifths of a starting lineup that was quite possibly a quadruple doink away from the Eastern Conference Finals was on the open market. And it was going to take much more than a couple Benjamins to ensure that Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris, and JJ Redick all returned.
I personally was all for running it back. For one, it’s not my money. Plus, we all saw what an Embiid / Simmons / Butler / Redick / Harris lineup was capable of doing in the 21 combined regular season and playoff games they played in. They were starting to build some serious chemistry towards the end there, and who knows what they could accomplish in a full season together.
What transpired was yet another re-haul of the lineup which actually improved the overall outlook of this team.
Let’s recap to this point, after the jump:
JJ Heads South
Free agent guard JJ Redick has agreed to a two-year, $26.5M deal to join the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources tell ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 30, 2019
Not an ideal start to the evening!
Losing a guy like JJ is tough. Defensive shortcomings and age aside, there were times throughout the season when he looked like the 2nd option on offense. The dribble hand-offs he ran with Joel were some of the most effective actions they ran all year. He is still a very lethal shooter, and had the highest scoring season of his career at the age of 34 (18.1 PPG).
It’ll be interesting to see how Elton Brand goes about addressing the hole he leaves in the Sixers’ perimeter game. Their spacing will not be the same.
Tobi Decides to Run it Back (x5)
Free agent forward Tobias Harris has agreed to a five-year, $180M contract to return to the Philadelphia 76ers, his agent and father, Torrel Harris of Unique Sports Management, tells ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 30, 2019
This was a no-brainer. If Jimmy was all but gone (we’ll get to that in a little), locking up Tobias long-term was Elton’s top priority, and he got it done.
A lot of people aren’t fans of this deal, and it’s understandable. It’s a lot of money committed to a guy many consider to be a “borderline All-Star” who has also played for five different teams in his eight-year career. But the Sixers almost had no choice but to ensure that he re-signed given how much they gave up for him (chiefly Landry Shamet, two 1st-round picks, and two 2nd-round picks).
With that being said, I think a full year with this team will serve Tobias much better. He had to be relegated to the 3rd or 4th option a good majority of last season with Jimmy and JJ in the starting lineup. With their departures, Tobias will be relied upon a whole lot more to provide some instant offense. Yeah, his shooting from deep dipped after the trade, but he still shot just under 40% from long-range. He can still effectively create his own shot, is a good ball-handler, and can back down shorter defenders.
Plus, I just think Tobias finally having some long-term stability will do wonders for his productivity. He’s only 26, and is right there on the Ben and Joel timeline.
The Mike Scott Hive Lives On
Sources: Free agent Mike Scott has agreed to a two-year, $9.8M deal to return to the Philadelphia 76ers.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) June 30, 2019
This one made a lot of people (including myself) extremely happy. Mike Scott has firmly entrenched himself in this city and its culture, so seeing him come back, especially after him expressing his desire to do so in his exit interview, is awesome.
Memes aside, he’s going to be a key guy off the bench as additional depth at the four. He can be streaky at times as a shooter, but he still shot 41% from three following his arrival from the Clippers. Plus, he’s the guy you want on your side when things get testy.
Mike Scott Hive stand up!
Out Goes Jimmy, In Comes Josh
Sources: Philadelphia has signed-and-traded Jimmy Butler to Miami, with Heat sending Josh Richardson to the 76ers.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 1, 2019
I can’t lie, this threw me for a loop. Call me naive, but when you think about everything we heard about Jimmy being a virtual lock to return if the 5-year max was on the table, which it turns out it was, I was convinced they were running it back with him.
But it wasn’t meant to be, and Jimmy is now in South Beach.
To be clear, I don’t hate the guy. I’ll never hate him. He made a clear lifestyle choice, and I don’t think anyone can fault him for that. I’m only upset at him trying to portray himself as being the “realest out there” and “all about winning”, only to make a move like this. That’s my only criticism.
Basketball-wise, it’s obviously another tough loss. Jimmy was far from a perfect fit, but he was a guy this team could turn to in tough situations. It’s going to be hard to replace both his late-game and defensive chops.
Getting Josh Richardson in return, though, is huge. Not only is he probably a more seamless fit than Butler, he’s someone the fans are going to love. He plays tough perimeter defense, can knock down shots from deep, and can serve as a secondary creator on offense.
And to top it all off, he’s on a very team-friendly contract. The Sixers have him locked up through 2021 and will only have paid him around $21 million to that point, providing even more financial flexibility. So overall, it’s very good compensation for losing Jimmy.
Average Al Comes Aboard
Five-time All-Star F/C Al Horford has agreed to a four-year, $109M deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, agent Jason Glushon tells ESPN.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) July 1, 2019
I despise all things Boston, and Horford, like many other Sixers fans, caught the brunt of my ire. He was by far Joel’s biggest kryptonite the last two years or so, and now he joins forces with the same guy he frustrated for so long.
Horford is the present-day Shane Battier: very good, not great, at a lot of things, doesn’t post gaudy numbers, but makes all the right plays. He’s the ultimate glue-guy, someone who would bore the casual fan. He was integral to the Celtics’ success thanks to his smart play, smart defense, and good shooting.
He makes for an interesting fit. Him and Joel are going to wreak havoc in the front court on defense. He’ll help to further space the floor, and he will provide another trustworthy option as both a down low presence and a playmaker. His occupying virtually the same space as Joel is worrying, but they should work that out.
There are some legitimate concerns. His contract has the potential to age very poorly. Horford is 33, and despite still being a very effective player, is bound to decline at some point. The Sixers are going to be paying him over $26 million by the time he’s 36, and who knows how productive he’ll be by then.
Despite these worries, he’s going to fit fine, and most importantly, he’s going to be an excellent locker room presence for this team. He’s a true leader and is a seasoned playoff vet (every team he’s played on in his 12 seasons in the league has made the playoffs). Joel’s development as well as Ben’s development are going to benefit greatly from him.
It also gives us all another thing to troll Boston about.
Filling in the Gaps
The Sixers are signing Kyle O'Quinn, I'm told.
— Kyle Neubeck (@KyleNeubeck) July 2, 2019
O’Quinn is a very solid pick-up to solidify the Sixers’ 2nd unit. The Sixers were rumored to have been interested in him last offseason, but he ultimately signed with the Indiana Pacers. He’s a bruising big who can get at it down low and is a good rebounder. He can provide insurance for both Joel and Al Horford as essentially the third-string center.
Free agent James Ennis has agreed to a two-year, $4.1M deal to return to Philadelphia, with second-year player option, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Ennis turned down more salary from multiple teams to return to a championship contender.
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 2, 2019
Another great move by Elton. Ennis was a major contributor for the Sixers off the bench in the playoffs, and being able to retain him at a discount was huge.
Ennis’s ability to knock down open shots along with his defensive versatility were invaluable during the Sixers’ playoff run, and they now keep him in the fold for at least another year. Keeping some financial flexibility in the process helps as well.
Also, to think that the Sixers have now become a destination for ring-chasers is insane.
The Sixers are signing Shake Milton to a four-year contract using their remaining salary-cap room, I am told.
— Kyle Neubeck (@KyleNeubeck) July 2, 2019
I’m really excited to see what Shake has to offer in a slightly bigger role this season. He showed flashes of great potential in the minutes he did get in the regular season. He can handle the ball, shoot a little, and is a solid passer. His defense will need some improvement, but he has the length and size to be a good defender. He’s going to compete for backup point guard minutes depending on who else the Sixers bring on.
I’m also so ready to watch him tear up the Summer League.
(also, Kevin wrote about Raul Neto this morning)
What’s the Overall Outlook?
After letting the dust settle from all the madness of the last few days, and you get a chance to look at this team, it could very much be better than last year. They have the potential to be an absolute juggernaut on defense and on the boards. The amount of length and sheer size of the roster is crazy. Consider this:
The wingspan rundown:
Zhaire: 6-10 Richardson: 6-10 Ennis: 6-11 Scott: 6-11 Tobias: 6-11 Simmons: 7-0 Thybulle: 7-0 Shake: 7-0 Shayok: 7-0 Horford: 7-1 Bolden: 7-3 KOQ: 7-5 Embiid: 7-5
— Jackson Frank (@jackfrank_jjf) July 2, 2019
That’s preposterous. Zhaire Smith and Josh Richardson are tied for the shortest wingspan at 6’10”. They’re just stacked with dynamic, switchable defenders who are going to wreak havoc on lesser teams.
The offensive side of the ball potentially has a lot more questions. For one, they obviously lack a true lock-down shooter with JJ’s departure. Plus, with Jimmy no longer in the fold, they’re down not only a reliable ball-handler, but a guy they can turn to in crunch-time.
Additionally, the guys who look to be the top options off the bench are very young. Matisse Thybulle is a rookie, Zhaire Smith essentially red-shirted last season, and Shake spent a majority of last season in the G-League. I don’t see it being that much of an issue, but it’s something to keep in mind.
I think they’ll ultimately work out all the kinks in their lineup. Everyone they have is a competent-enough shooter to at the very least get them by. Plus, they still have plenty of offensive weapons to be dynamic on that end of the floor. Joel is still a beast, Ben is only getting better, and Tobias looks primed to have a great year. I’d expect them to try and add either another shooter or a legitimate backup point guard via free agency or a trade in the coming weeks to solidify their depth.
Fans should be extremely excited about this squad. They look primed to be one of the Eastern Conference top dogs not only this coming year, but for the foreseeable future.

Unwrapping Six Underrated Performers
Happy Holidays to all my North American counterparts! As I prepare to gorge myself on Christmas ham and knock back way too many Molson products let’s look at some fantasy assets that aren’t receiving the love they deserve for their contributions to both their actual real life squads and the fantasy teams where they’re rostered. Some of these names are more familiar and some have just come up on the radar in 2017-18 showing what they may be able to provide you the fantasy manager in years to come. If you have followed these writings throughout time you may know that I make it my job to give love to guys who really need more of it a la James van Riemsdyk.
Yanni Gourde
Honestly, I knew not a thing about Gourde prior to this season but boy do I love an undrafted success story anytime they arise. What is it with high scoring players in the QMJHL sometimes not being taken seriously? Anyone remember the 2006 draft when Bobby Clarke forgot Claude Giroux’s name at the podium? Here’s that for your viewing pleasure…
{youtube}kcmdnFvM4w8{/youtube}
Getting back to Gourde, in his final two seasons with the Victoriaville Tigres he scored 192 points in 136 games played. 124 of those points alone came in 2011-12 in 68 games played! Though his scoring translation took a few seasons after the completion of his junior career, eventually while part of the Tampa Bay Lightning affiliated Syracuse Crunch he turned it on starting in 2014-15. With 149 points in 197 games played from 2014-17 in the AHL, Gourde seemingly had what it takes to be a difference maker in the NHL. Nine points in his first 22 games in the NHL across two seasons suggested his abilities but 2017-18 has been his coming out party with him currently on pace for a 25-goal, 58-point season. With four goals and three assists in his past seven games played Gourde’s scoring capabilities are seemingly once again translating at the highest level.
Now 26 years of age Gourde is well in his prime and can be viewed somewhat differently than your typical newbie to the league because of his age. More physically and mentally developed alongside playing on a stacked Lightning squad, Gourde is starting to look a lot like a Brayden Point story. Not receiving top line minutes nor primary power play time it is easy to forget about Gourde with the arsenal of weapons on this team. Because of said arsenal it is entirely reasonable to expect him to maintain his scoring pace as he will never see top defensive pairs that are matching up with the top two lines every time. Boasting a 0.69 point-per-game pace in the second quarter through 13 games if you’re in need of some forward assistance give this guy a go.
Micheal Ferland
Ferland is going to contend for the hockey “Cy Young” award with a paltry showing in the assist department but he is on pace for 31 goals and is not receiving the exposure he should cast in the shadow of his more pedigree linemates Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. A relative nobody before the current campaign he is already two goals away from his total 15 scored in 76 games played last season. Outside of goals Ferland also holds value in leagues counting hits with 60 total so far putting him on pace for 143 by season’s end. His five power-play points are all goals, but again if you are in a league that differentiates between power play goals and assists he is on pace for 12.
Ferland has been lined up with Monahan and Gaudreau 90.5% of the time this season by Glen Gulutzan. You really cannot have a more assured deployment in hockey, only Mike Babcock rivals that type of linemate consistency. There is no denying Ferland’s fantasy relevance would cascade off a cliff if removed from the top line but that percentage tells us it’s a rare occurrence. Seeing time on the second power play coupled with his even strength deployment makes Ferland an option that should be taken more seriously.
Mathieu Perreault
Had Perreault never gone down to injury early on in the season the outlook for the Winnipeg Jets might’ve been very different. Kyle Connor’s arrival/emergence directly correlates to Perreault’s injury with him being called up to fill the void. As most of us know Connor seized the opportunity afforded to him with top line and top power play duty. Kudos to him on cementing his place alongside Mark Schiefele and Blake Wheeler at even strength but what’s unfortunate is how everyone has seemingly forgotten about Perreault’s production both before and after his injury.
In 19 games since his return from injury Perreault has racked up eight goals and eight assists. Not once in this stretch has he so much as even sniffed top six deployment. Like many teams, beyond the top two lines there is a significant drop-off in offensive ability when it comes to the bottom six. Perreault is playing with the likes of Matt Hendricks and Joel Armia these days, two players nobody will ever confuse for offensive dynamos. Yet despite this undesirable deployment Perreault is one of the best if not the best pts/60 player in the league (4.0). In a nutshell he is by a landslide the best fourth line player in the game today. For any league where time on ice is not counted he is an absolute must own while he is producing in the manner he is. Even if time on ice has to be accounted for, at this point he is worth the hit in this category as he provides consistent offense and his current pace of 57 points in 69 games played barring injury is nothing to laugh about; that is serious production. Any and all who drafted him kind of sort of despise Kye Connor (yours truly) but at least Perreault is still finding a way to be relevant and then some.
Danton Heinen
Another young player a la Gourde who I did not know much anything about prior to this season, Heinen is giving Bruins fans some serious excitement for the future alongside their other young guns. At the tender age of 22 Heinen has been a jack of all trades for head coach Bruce Cassidy. Regardless of the line he has been rolled out on he has been able to maintain consistent production and currently is on pace for a 22-goal, 61-point campaign. Quite the stat line for someone who quintessentially only finds himself in the NHL currently because of the injury torrent for the Bruins early on. Nonetheless Heinen has made the most of his opportunity since his call up in mid-October and it’s time people start taking more notice.
Though his overall shooting percentage is high at 16%, even with some goal scoring regression he would still be on pace for impressive numbers by season’s end. Boasting an impressive 55.25 CF% Heinen and Co. are really driving play when deployed on the ice. As stated earlier I am no expert on this kid but the numbers do not lie. Top six or bottom six this kid is producing solid offensive numbers so far throughout 28 games played and has every right to be rostered full-time. Once upon a time names like Daniel Paille were the face of the Bruins bottom-six but these days it looks like that is Heinen’s throne now.
Jake Muzzin
I feel everyone forgot about poor Jake Muzzin after a forgettable 2016-17 campaign. Two straight 40-point seasons in 2014-15/2015-16 were completely left in the rearview mirror after last year’s 28-point showing for Muzzin. But the past is the past and Muzzin the multi-cat beast is back in force. After four straight seasons with a PDO below 1000, 2017-18 sees him rocking a robust 1026 currently. Adversely his cf% is the lowest it’s been in several seasons but still remains above 50%. No stopping the production though as he has amassed 20 points in 35 games so far with 88 hits and 74 blocks. Pro-rate this over a full 82-game schedule and Muzzin is on pace for a seven goal, 46-point, 204-hit, 171-block season.
Riding shotgun with Drew Doughty a majority of the time at even strength and always together on the primary power play unit Muzzin is providing incredible value. Not one aspect of his stat line across all categories would negatively impact your squad and the best thing about him is that nobody talks about him. Forever in Doughty’s shadow he will never ever receive the love he should which makes him a desirable draft target year in and year out. Kudos to John Stevens for revitalizing this team’s offense all the while not abandoning their ability to prevent goals. It would certainly seem a regime change has reinvigorated this roster from the top down and Muzzin is prospering immensely.
Colin Miller
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers could only dream of the talent afforded to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in their expansion draft. Though nobody in their right mind could’ve ever anticipated the torrid start for them in their inaugural season there’s no doubt the pedigree of talent on this squad is far beyond the likes of expansion teams of the nineties. One of many players contributing to their success is Colin Miller on the back end. Miller possesses a booming slapshot, but his setup skills have been his primary source of points. On pace for a 12-goal, 47-point showing in 2017-18 this guy is providing barn burner value for someone who was not even drafted in a vast majority of 8 to 12-team leagues.
Though he does not receive top pair minutes on the blue line Miller is turning into a multi-cat asset as to go with his impressive points pace he is also on track for 65 PIM, 181 shots, 137 hits and 17 PPP. Miller starts 60% of his shifts in the offensive zone and his overall shooting percentage is of no cause for regression concerns sitting at 6.8% currently. Not to say the Golden Knights are ready to contend for a Stanley Cup but at this point in the season we have to at least somewhat buy into the notion that this team has the ability to give any team a run for its money any given night. With 19 points in 33 games played Miller’s playing his part in the success and should provide a steady source of points barring injury the rest of the way.
