Are you sure? Ep. 2
Episode 2 of Are you sure? begins with Jimin in a world of pain. He spent the whole night either firing on all cylinders in the bathroom or getting elbowed in the nose by a sleepy muscle bunny.
After getting him some medicine, there is really nothing that JK can do until Jimin starts to feel a bit better. He could spend the time surfing the net, calling his buddies but what he actually does is a hundred times sweeter and more caring.
He builds a stone tower and it's a pretty intricate and impressively tall one at that. Now I have seen these appear in kdramas - the latest one probably being Our Blues (I can't find a photo right now) - but I hadn't really understood what they stood for before. This article on Korean habits briefly explains what this means to a South Korean.
So in building the stone tower and making his prayer, JK is wishing for Jimin's rapid recovery, for them to have better luck on the rest of their travels and for happiness to pervade their whole adventure.
Jimin is obviously surprised but also very touched and it seems to be an auspicious way to start the second day of their trip.
Yes I know Jimin will be fending off blood suckers of various kinds within the hour as they walk through the Connecticut forest but the rest of the day pans out very well indeed.

A Taste of Korean Culture in the Batal Stone Series
Ssanghwa Tea At this, Wang Jongcheol’s expression stiffened. He set the teacup down and fell silent, gazing intently at the few pine nuts floating on the surface of the tea. The Batal Stone series brings the richness of Korean culture to life, weaving traditional elements seamlessly into its narrative. One such element is Ssanghwa Tea, a traditional Korean herbal beverage that symbolizes…

🌻 here's my entry for the second week of the @tmntfashioncompetition ! the theme this time was traditional clothing and I immediately knew I wanted to do something relating to my korean culture haha
I'm going against the lovely @tizeline for this one!!
this was supposed to take place in the Joseon Dynasty, but when researching the type of hanbok people wore back then it was kinda hard finding accurate information 😭 so I just went with what I thought would suit them :]
some fun facts about this drawing under the cut! ^^
I hc that donnie would infiltrate the schools to become an astounding scholar, so when he comes home he teaches his brothers what he learned ^^ he's wearing a dopo (도포), which was what confucian scholars wore back then!
mikey's wearing a child's hanbok (한복), which are more colorful than adult ones. so technically speaking, leo and donnie should be wearing one too, but I felt that leo would want to copy don haha. plus, they all still see mikey as the baby of the group 😁
raph's wearing a gat (갓), and this is kinda where it was hard to find accurate info.. it's known that when someone wears a gat with their hair in a topknot, it signifies marriage, but other sources said that it also signifies when a child has transitioned into adulthood. either way, it represents pride, dignity, and status, so I figured I might as well add it.
and since this takes place in the Joseon period, I thought it'd be nice to have raph copying a page of the Hunmninjeongeum (혼민정음), which was a document introducing the invention of the early korean language ^^
and last but not least, the table is inspired by the one my grandparents own :]
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#tmntfashioncompetition#traditional garment theme#theres more fun facts but this is getting long enough haha#rise of the tmnt#save rottmnt#i think its funny that when i started researching#i ended up walking away with more info abt korean architecture than the clothes#i might as well build my own atp haha

The Nobleman or 양반 (yangban): The smiling face represents the bluff and composure that an aristocrat is often known to have. The chin is a separate piece from the top of the mask, and the actors can lean forward and back to make the mask smile or frown as needed.
This monk who abandons his doctrines, or 취발이 (chwibari): Chwibari was originally a monk, but he had no intention of joining the monastic order, so he came down to the world and wanders. Represented with a forehead full of wrinkles and spots.
The widow or, 부네 (Punae/bune): represented to be a widow, or a kisaeng ( a woman who sang, danced, or played an instrument to provide entertainment for company at a drinking party), or a mistress of the Yangban. She has a very small mouth, round cheeks and forehead- giving a general look of happiness good-humor.
#skz#stray kids#skzedit#bystay#obligatory i am no expert take it with a grain of salt blah blah#theres no changbin bc you cant see the mask clearly and no hyunjin because as best I can figure his mask is a General/high ranking official#but most of those are modern productions and dont have any real descriptions or anything.#these plays were made to mock the upper classes so the nobleman is p much always treated like a fool or bastard lol#also these all change depending on the location- so like the chwibari is usually a negative portrayal of a monk who drinks and parties#and isnt very... monk-ly lets say- but then theres a story where he saves his lover from a lecherous monk and they get married so 🤷♀️#he wasnt a monk that iteration though or he abandoned his studies ?#and then the widow/concubine varies from sympathetic young widow to a kinda femme fatale who seduces the nobleman/scholars#Will any of this play into the concept? probably not. they dont really commit to concepts lbr#but still! it was interesting to look into and the masks are pretty to boot so this was fun :)#it'd be cool if they did a mask dance. i always loved thunderous for the traditional elements so i hope that happens#also YEAH a korean seungmin girl saying she was sad the foreign fans wouldnt get the significance bc she wants to see 'secondary art'#did inspire this (of course i'd wanna know why he was the only one given a womans mask dont act surprised)#bc im pretty sure i know what she means by secondary art and LMAO#i see right through you.... and into myself maybe#long post

MORE DESI MIKU?!?!?!? (+korean miku!) Can you tell I love drawing her?
I'm really sad the trend died down a lot (or did it??idk, I think my last post kinda flopped compared to the others). Desi miku is so silly!!!
Also, you may be wondering who the other miku is, and it's South Korean Miku!!! A friend requested I draw her. I'm not Korean myself, so I hope I did well! They loved the end result, by the way!! :D
I think im proud of the top left drawing of the first image! It's miku doing Bharatanatyam, one of the classical dances of India! My mom seemed to really like this one, but I don't think she knows it's miku lol (I didn't write the "Hatsune Miku" until I made all 3 drawings). Drawing the costume was a but tedious, but I think it turned out fine!
Desi Miku masterpost!

TWST Overblot Gang Fashion (+Dorm Reactions) Part 1 | 2 | 3
Concept: Ortho ordered some cool clothing because he read that fashion can boost one's self-esteem! Idia relented and wore it but didn't move a step outside his room
He got invited to Yuu's dorm for a film and dinner! How exciting! Humans were always the creative and inventive sort. Wanting to look his best, he tried on a few different clothing he picked himself. The child of man always appreciated the little details he put in
#twisted wonderland#twst#idia shroud#malleus draconia#ignihyde#diasomnia#i tried to make Mal's outfit different than the usual ones i give him#i based it off traditional korean clothing and Jeoseung-saja#when i realized i designed something similiar i drew previously for idia it was too late curse my goldfish memory#lil' doots

Oh look I drew fencing ppl instead of studying.
Na Hee-Do and Ko Yurim from the Kdrama 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One' on Netflix
Each doodle roughly 2 min
Yes, I meant to draw Ellie and Anastacia from Rwch, but got totally sidetracked while searching for references.
