I think I achieved the most incredible honor a disabled person can achieve

I'm sitting in the bus rn on my way to uni

And this lady sits next to me

She's like 45?50?older?

Anyways, Ancient

And then as she's studying her notes she suddenly sees my knee braces

(I have both of them on and they're absolutely visible because they're dark blue and my pants are black)

She asks me if i have a knee injury/knee pain and i explain that yes u infact do

And she says "me too"

She continues talking about her experiences and stuff

And then asks me about what happened

So i explain (because i felt comfortable talking about it. No one ever has to explain)

And she asks me why i didn't wear it under my pants

Now my pants are literally leggings and also THE TEXTURE OF THESE BRACES???? HORRIBLE

So without missing a beat i grin and say "because that's so hard, makes me sweat a LOT, and just not comfortable. Why would i wear it under my pants if they're not helpful?"

And i see sth in her eyes

And as she keeps talking, because she KEPT talking

She eventually says "I was told to wear one too but it was too uncomfortable under my pants and i never considered wearing them over them. I was always too embarrassed"

And i tell her she has nothing to be embarrassed about

And she tells me I inspired her and I don't think I've felt this much pride ever

I told her that I'm so happy she feels that way, and no one should feel embarrassed of their body, and who cares what anyone thinks

I am so fucking happy

God. Fuck. Kill me. I need actually knee braces that will actually support me. I need my knees to stop hyperextending. I need support for the instability. I need something that will actually support my weight so I don't have to constantly offload it onto everything else around me. But I can't afford anything, I can't afford even the Walmart braces, let alone the good braces I know I need. Fuck being disabled. I hate my joint instability. I hate having a connective tissue disorder. I hate being broke as fuck. I need moneyyyy.

I use mobility aids such as forearme crutches and braces on my ankles and knees. The ankle ones hold up well (they're a wrapping type with a single point of velcro at the end of the wrap) and I've only had to replace them 1 time so far, but my knee braces have been replaced 3 or 4 times already, due to over working the velcro.

The type I currently use is a Moxita knee braces with side stabilizers. It does what I need it to do but needs to be replaced often. The reason for the velcro stripping that happens to them is because I have to take them off when I'm sitting or have my knees bent for a long period of time, and anytime I want to stand I need to put them back on.

I use the braces for patella instability. My crutches help to lessen the amount of weight I put on them, but without the brace stability, I can't stand without my knees buckling and the knee cap sliding out of place.

I refuse to get surgery for this as the issue will reappear over and over due to the genetic condition.

So, does anyone have any recommendations on knee braces?

Hi I know it’s been over a year since I’ve been active on this blog but my joints seem to be deteriorating and I still have no diagnosis to help me figure out how to manage it better so right now it’s pretty much a guessing game of what will and won’t work. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything like a knee brace you can sleep in? I know sleeping in braces can be harmful but I’ve been in pain so often lately and for such little things that I’m desperate.

I fucking love my knee braces and crutches. They make my life so much easier and I’m so lucky to have them. I went on a hike today (mostly flat but with stuff like fallen trees and tree roots and grasses making it bumpy and stuff) and I could actually do it! I walked for an hour for over a mile and I’m so fucking proud of myself! I know that because it was flat some people might not consider it a hike but I do and I’m proud.

an oddly specific experience as someone bad, unstable knees: whenever someone falls on their knee(s) in real life, on tv, in books, etc, i am absolutely horrified, just waiting for one of their bones to pop out and for them to writhe around screaming and crying ...what do you mean other people don't worry about that?

I currently have a cane,underarm crutches,and knee braces. In the future I would like forearm crutches! I hope all of you get all of the mobility aids you need and deserve!
