Shoutout to adults in the kin community, whether you also identified as kin from a younger age or not. So often this identity is seen as a phase or something only younger people identify as, but there are those of us out here in our 20s, 30s, 40s, and older living our lives and existing out in the world.

To those of us who grew into it, to those of us that grew with it, I see you and love you.

Sending some love today to fictionkin, particularly from superhero, sci-fi, or fantasy settings, who experienced kinds of trauma that have nothing in this universe to compare it to:

Injuries (both major and minor) that came from magic

Death, perhaps even more than once if revival magic existed in your source

Illnesses that don't exist in this world

Mind control/possession (might make a whole other post about this one)

Combat/getting in life threatening fights that involved magic or fictional weapons

Various spells, curses, or potions

Being stranded away from home in another planet/dimension/timeline

Apocalypses

Your trauma is real, even if it didn't happen right here, and you're not 'crazy' for feeling upset by it, even if there's no equivalent in this place. I know your non-kin friends might not always get it, and it's not typically something you can seek a therapist about, but your pain isn't 'stupid' no matter what anyone else thinks about it.

I had a surprisingly lovely conversation w/ some irl friends abt my fictionkin identities yesterday and wanted to share !!

I'm very open about my therianthropy irl bc I find it's a little easier to explain to humans than otherkinnity or fictionkinnity, and was having a conversation abt how I know other dogs irl !! One of my friends asked me what term(s) I use for myself and sent me a screenshot of my Discord bio, which just has fictionkin listed.

I explained what fictionkin was, and went into more depth on me being Venti !! I also briefly brought up my f/os (who I "remember" being in a relationship with within my canon), and everyone was chill abt it !!!

They even told me that the idea of fictionkinnity was very cool.

I suppose I just wanted to share bc there's a lot of negativity within especially the fictionkin community abt opening up abt your kins, and a lot of self-consciousness abt what humans will think of you, and I just wanted to share my moment of positivity and kindness towards my identity.

There are humans out there who will support you in your identity and want to hear more, no matter how "cringe" it may be. :P

I've learned today how memories can sometimes get. It's been extremely bad. It's painful, exhausting, and emotionally draining.

So if anyone is out there trying to handle their 'kin memories, try to talk about it with someone or write out your thoughts.
