i hate grizzly so fucking much that fucking white boy is like “hey let me make yet another skinny twink character with washboard abs” and i fall for it every time because behind the repetitive design choices he is so good at making these really elaborate characters who present this overt sort of lie about themselves that builds them up usually into a respectable person or a larger than life figure but they play so far into this lie to the point where it becomes woven into their identity and they not only have no clue who they are outside of it, but they also don’t know if they can be loved outside of it. and eventually their luck runs thin and they have to admit it and yet every single time despite the fact that they crumble and shatter before the other party members and display the most vulnerable, ugly, broken parts of themselves they are always loved regardless. they have to face that it was not the lie that those people loved, and even if it was, it’s okay to start anew. it’s okay to meet for the first time again. because those actions they took, often selfless, protective, and/or heroic actions, were still their actions. and they can’t shoulder the immeasurable weight of a false identity forever, and they are not a monster for being themself. they can be weak and they can be vulnerable sometimes and they can even do bad things and make mistakes but that doesn’t make them a monster. and no matter what, even if they sometimes try to avoid it, they are always stricken with this inexplicably strong love for the other party members that is so strong that sometimes it may even be a detriment to them. they may sacrifice themselves or overexert whatever power they have to save the others. grizzly pcs know how to love and how to lie and in the end they always have to admit their lie and learn how to turn that love back around towards themselves and accept themselves and it fucks me up every. single. time.

Like Kian thinking, and all but knowing Becky isnt really Becky and still he kisses her. He plays her his song and she cries. And kian knows he know theres a voice in his head that sound like rand screaming at him.

But he pushes all that down hes not dumb hes an accountant he knows the math isnt adding up. But hes sitting in front of Becky the first girl he ever loved and he figures up a new equation. One where the chances of becky being alive are no better than his odds of survival. So he kisses becky and he knows this isnt her and he knows better but this his last chance to die in the arms of someone who knows him--

rand is gay, demiromantic & gray ace. he's also deeply repressed about his attraction to men and justifies his attraction to kian with "well he's basically a girl". he completely ignores his feelings for rolan. he's also a virgin bc he never found anyone besides kian and rolan that he's interested in even in the slightest. also he's a loser. in theory he's polyam bc he could never settle for just one dedicated romantic partner for the rest of his life

rolan is somewhere between male leaning biromantic and gay. also sex repulsed ace though it's not quite clear whether he had been ace or if that's a consequence of the buggification. he's always been into rand but he's also a massive homophobe so he's never acted on it and feels quite panicky about his own feelings. he isn't necessarily supportive of kian, but he's his friend so he lets the whole gay thing slide. sometimes while in chicago he forced himself into flirts and hookups with women he met at bars or at work, but it always ended in disaster

kian self identifies as bi, but i think if he had today's understanding of orientation and gender he would id as pan. he's been sexually attracted to rand for ages and they kissed twice, once before kian had even figured out his sexuality and he'd been drinking and sad and kissed rand in broad daylight behind the school and immediately had a panic attack about it, and once a few months before he left galloway when the three of them were smoking weed together and rand brought up their first kiss. they never talked about it again. also had he the vocabulary for it he'd definitely describe his feelings for rand as queerplatonic. he's been in love with rolan and aware of it since he's been 16 or something, but nothing ever came of it, and since he was with becky and really really into her the pining didn't hurt as much as it could have. definitely polyam, big fan of relationship anarchy, big into the drag scene in california and had he had more freedom and time to figure himself out (and had the resources necessary) eventually he would've come to the realization that he's bigender/genderfluid

becky is confidently bisexual and technically monogamous, but if it had ever come to it she would not have minded sharing kian. she also helped kian figure himself out a lot, even before they started officially dating. she taught him how to do makeup and gave him the whole "however you wanna look, whatever you wanna wear, you can" talk
