Welcome to Round 1 of the Wasted Woman Poll, the tournament to see which fridged woman deserved better!

Thank you everyone for your patience for Round 1 to begin. Now that the semester is over, I finished the list of match-ups for the Round 1 bracket.

There were 89 contestants for this tournament. Anyone familiar with tournaments knows that it doing a 89-contestant, single-elimination tournament would be annoying. Rather than cutting out 25 contestants to make it a 64-contestant tournament, I opted to use the format of a 64-contestant tournament, just with some of the poll in Round 1 (a majority of them, actually) being three-way polls with a single winner rather than solely two-way polls. So out of the 89 contestants going into Round 1, only 32 will go on to Round 2. Many of the listings in Round 1 will be characters from the same series going against each other, so that the future rounds will be more varied.

The tournament will be split into 4 sets of 8 polls each, with every poll running for a whole link. Below the cut will be the list of match-ups for each set and when the polls will premiere.

If there are any mistakes at all (spelling, if a character appears twice, if the media someone is listed under is incorrect, etc.) please let me know! I did double-check it, but I'm only human so errors do happen.

So you guys may (or may not) remember Kathy the stray cat in heat from earlier this year. I called her Kathy after the ghost in Wuthering Height by Emily Brontë, because she kept coming to our windows crying to come inside. She tested all of our nerves. Anyhow she won the lottery. Our neighbors, the Hamptons (not their real name we just call them that because they have a place up in the Hamptons were they are at when they are not down here. Real nice people. Anyhow they took in Kathy, renamed her to Geanie, got her fixed and cleaned up and now she lays around like the queen of Sheeba enjoying the finer things in life. She comes over all the time to visit Mei Ling, Geanie wants to be friends with her and Mei will put up with social visits for a bit and then will chase her off. It's one of those types of friendships.

Another of our backyard residents is Speedy. He's a 3 foot long Black Racer Snake. He's lived in or backyard as long we've had the house. He's nice enough, he does his thing, we do ours and for an ill-tempered breed he leaves everyone alone. I have never seen a Mouse in the backyard or garden. So you know everybody works. At first I called him 'Blacky' because, well he's black. My wife Dani got on me and informed me we are not calling him that. So a lesson in sensitivity... so Speedy it is. Just saw him this morning doing his thing.

Now our latest new resident is a Black cat with some white patches of missing fur. I thought he (or she, I couldn't tell) might have the mange, so I looked and it doesn't seem to be. He (or she) is just beat up. Looks like someone has been in some cat fights. I would hate to see the other cat, but honestly I'm thinking some cat is probably saying that about him (or her) I'm thinking he (or she) didn't win whatever fight that they were in.

I was trying to get used to calling him (or her) Noir. But that doesn't seem to roll of the tongue properly. So I was thinking about it, while weeding a garden bed this morning. And he (or she) is black as a Raven's wing. So I guess Raven is a good name for him (or her) and besides he (or her) showed up around Halloween time so a good fit.

I don't know how long this new cat plans on staying, I haven't fed him (or her) of course, so we shall see. Sorry for no pic, Dani's in the Hospital with her phone, so I have no camera here at the house.

He (or she) sure does seem to like our backyard though.

You guys know I ship valenfield (certainly wouldn't be running this blog if I didn't! 😅) but I think this is a very important read that sets the record straight from interviews, translations, and words/context getting mixed up in fandom. Like the OP here, I've have had screenshots taken from this blog before and had them presented incorrectly. Such a case was the time I posted about a fan review of Death Island talking about Valenfield and it got reposted on twitter as some hint that Valenfield was going to become canon. That was never what I had on the post here. We've had the devs tell us more than once that the series does not focus on romance. So the only official pairings are couples such as Ethan & Mia, Barry Burton & Kathy Burton, William Birkin & Annette Birkin, Jack & Marguerite Baker and going also to include Bruce Mcgivern & Fong Ling b/c of their ending in Resident Evil: Dead Aim. Capcom own the characters and that ball will always be in their court on how the series goes, we need to respect that and not get caught up in thinking the series owes us to make a ship canon b/c of unverified rumors and perceptions. Overall the main plot of this series is about fighting bioterrorism and evil scientists. This certainly does not stop us from enjoying the ship. We can entertain ourselves with headcanons, fan arts, and fanfiction to flesh out what Capcom doesn't give us officially. So please do be careful out there with any kinds of rumors or claims and certainly keep what OP has said in mind. 🙂

I keep seeing some misinformation being spread about something Koshi Nakanishi (the director of RE7) brought up years ago, after RE7 was revealed (in regards to Chris and Jill). Since some people keep buying into/spreading misinformation, I'm gonna address it on here.

I've seen this screen shot (and others) showing partial text of something I posted some years ago, being spread on here and even on twitter. Notice how this individual cut off what I said in MY POST?

Here is what was said:

Not sure what the reason was some individual felt the need to cut out the context from my post. Even just looking at what he said itself, the context is STILL present though. HE said SPECIFICALLY THEY received MANY OPINIONS and REQUESTS. This is why it's in its own quotation marks. Comprehension is key. What Nakanishi is saying here, is that FANS have told them things such as, "It's about time to get Chris and Jill married." It's a quote WITHIN his response to what was asked. He's saying THAT'S a REQUEST/OPINION, it's not his own statement. He's mentioning what was requested for the "story of the latest game," which is why the man said he can't say anything about the story of RE7 afterward.

Ask yourself, does it make ANY sense, for him to just randomly say it's about time for them to marry Chris and Jill, when the question and his baseline comments were about the story of RE7 itself, and clearly Chris/Jill (as a duo) were irrelevant to the plot (with Jill only just recently getting a NEW story released -set in 2015- in 2023)? If it was of such urgency, wouldn't it have been established after all these years, let alone back then?

Like I made VERY clear, it was FANS being acknowledged for a request to see progression in Jill and Chris's relationship. Just like I was talking about what Takeuchi said when asked about them, and Kobayashi with his RE6 interview, when asked about specific romantically-angled pairings. Guess I may as well address his interview as well.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi (based on several translations people can do themselves with the scanned images), was saying RE was never planned to be a "work" about romance. NOT ONCE does he DENY romance existing anywhere (hell he talks about Leon and Ada having some development). He NEVER said Chris/Jill was STRICTLY a partnership for instance (as some have claimed over the years). What he actually said was in line with Takeuchi's claim about there being sort of a rule (for the scenario writers), on romances in the series--though they OBVIOUSLY still exist. There's a difference between someone saying "we don't focus on romance" and "there is no romance at all."

Kobayashi NEVER even denied there being a romantic aspect to their relationship, if people actually bothered to read the ACTUAL interview (even some messy online translations of the interview scans can give you the gist of it still clearly). He said it's more accurate to call them partners (meaning in the official sense) rather than to call them lovers, because they are not "together" officially. I actually thought it was interesting Death Island, never even referred to them as partners once, and it was just a given they were close and working together again once Jill got back on the field, even with Chris still serving as a captain (shown in the film and stated directly in his bio for the film).

A: We never intend to make any romantic relationship in this series, so Chris and Jill are partners more precisely, in RE:R is also this way. If you really have to find a romantic relationship in this series, Claire and Steve in CV 's relationship are more subtle. Players can look forward to Jake and Sherry in RE6.

^All errors aside, you can see the GIST of what he said is very clear either way.

Anyway, the point is, this claim being made about Nakanishi's interview was NOT something anyone at Capcom said THEY needed to do themselves, or confirmation they would be. Love interests can exist as "canon" storytelling, without ever even having them become an "official" item. Things could change someday, who knows, but even married couples in this franchise haven't actually been allowed to be "romantic" either.

Always check sources when available, and be careful with what is being presented as a "fact."
