I recently rewatched The Newsroom. I always had it in my head that it was a great show and I couldn't believe it was over so early. (I don't know if it was canceled or ended as planned)
But now that I watched it years later. Season 2 and season 3 are nowhere near season 1.
The whole Genoa thing, right off the bat we know it wasn't true and I just lost interest in the story and how they got there.
On top of the main story being disinteresting; Jim going away because of Maggie, not talking to her then coming back with another girl...
They throw in Don and Sloan there on top of those 2 and Mac and Will.
I'm not against these I think in season 1 and 2, the relationships and the story were in sync, better in season 1. Somewhat good in season 2, completely unrelated in season 3.
I love Mac and Will's banter, in fact the banter between all characters. I loved how much Maggie has grown.
Now that I think about it, I love how much all of the characters have grown. My problem is with the plot lines of Season 2 and 3. They were not good.
Season 2 I accepted, they built themselves up in the first season but they had to have a defeat in the next one. I guess to show how could a false report can be made but still it felt wrong.
People as competent as them shouldn't have made a mistake like that. I guess my favourite thing in season 2 was Maggie and Gary's trip to Africa.
Season 3 again, starts off with a whistle blower, this time with Neal. I don't know, whole thing felt like it should've been a side story. I thought it was a side story until it took over the rest of the season and the side story is apparently ACN is being sold to a cartoon villain.
The cherry on top was the soap opera death of Charlie Skinner. What purpose did it serve in the story exactly? And personally, he was my favourite character and they did him dirty in that last episode.
Don't even get me started on the way Jim and Maggie got together. It was laughable.
I'm just so disappointed of the show's downfall through seasons. If you ask me, it should've ended at season 1. I can understand why season 3 only had 6 episodes.
I love the characters, all of them so well done. All have their perks and quirks, amazing to watch. Season 1 story, wonderful to follow. Season 2 and 3 all over the place, a mess.

On a more positive note, Maggie gets a possible date with an ethics lecturer.
There's also too many "I'm laughing too hard" notes for this episode because as always, Aaron Sorkin knows how to write with liberal use of comedy.
I forgot how much shit goes down in one episode of the newsroom. In season 3 episode 2 the following happens:
-Neal commits espionage (fine this technically happens in season 3 episode 1 but still)
-Neal alerts the FBI to said espionage
-FBI raids ACN and takes all their hard drives to find the stolen government files Neal accidentally convinced a whistle blower to steal
-Neal goes on the run
-Don commits insider trading on accident
-Hallie starts (another) war between ACN and republicans via a deleted tweet
-ACN is 10 days away from being liquidated if Leona Lansing can’t get $4 million dollars to pay out two 24 year olds with daddy issues
-Maggie snoops on an EPA guys phone call and gets a bigger story about CO2 levels in the atmosphere after having an ethical realization that using what the guy said on the phone was kinda sneaky
-Everything is up in flames and this is Maggie returning to the newsroom after returning from covering the Boston bombing
