I can’t explain how much I adore the relationship between Yaz and Sammy. They balance each other out so perfectly. Thanks to Sammy, Yaz is more open minded and Sammy on the other hand can sometimes calm down thanks to Yazs calm nature. There Releationship development was done so perfectly and respectful. It was in one word: beautiful. You such represtations not very often done so well, but DreamWorks knows exactly what it was doing. Love knows no gender. Love is everyone and everyone deserves to be loved. And these two Queens are the perfect example for this. They have all my heart. ❤️

I‘m so excited for season 3 to see them again.

You stretched as you read through the previous day's log; everything had been fed, except for the scorpions. You rolled your eyes, of course no one fed them - it was always down to you to make sure that they were kept properly, as everyone else was too scared to bother.

The perk of being the only ecologist in your team who actually knew the key signs of aggression and defensive behaviour to look for; the perk of being the only one in your team who actually liked arachnids.

You nodded to yourself, deciding that they should be fed first, and started to make your way over to where the crickets, locusts, mealworms, waxworms, earthworms, snails, and both kinds of roaches were kept - but you stopped when you heard the door open, and you raised a brow.

The familiar scent of recently cleaned leather bit you in the nose, and you relaxed immediately.

"Doctor Malcolm," you hummed. "What do I owe the pleasure?"

Ian shrugged as he leaned against the table and rubbed his hands together; his knuckles were red and raw from the cold, and his fingers weren't as quick as they should have been. "It's, uh, it's always warm in here, isn't it? How'd you manage?"

You grabbed the tank of locusts and brought it to the table. "Plents of heat mats, UVB bulbs, and never opening the window. How else?"

He laughed softly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Y'know, all these, uh, creepy crawlies - you'd think that InGen would've hired you."

You scoffed as you glared at him and grabbed a pair of rubber tipped tongs. "You really think, after everything, that they give a single solitary fuck about ecology? When they practically destroyed several ecosystems?"

Ian hummed, watching with only slight discomfort as you grabbed a locust and opened one of the scorpion tanks; it was a big bugger. At least the length of his hand from the tip of his middle finger, with thick armoured pincers and a prominent, hairy, stinger; a blueish hue, the arachnid looked like something from a shitty monster film.

He cringed as he watched it grab the locust between two giant claws, and smash its venomous stinger right into the middle, nearly splitting the thing in half.

"You actually like these things?"

You grinned as you closed the tank and locked it, watching with fascination at it began to munch on its prey. "I think they're wonderful, Malcolm, you know that... saying that, actually, did you feed ours?"

He shook his head as he threw his hands up. "Oh no! I, uh, I thought we agreed, baby, that uh, you could have them - but you feed them."

You rolled your eyes fondly at him. "They're not that bad."

"One of them nearly took my finger off," he pointed out. "I've gone toe to toe with dinosaurs, I don't need an... a, uh, eight legged snipping machine to chase me."

You wanted to laugh as you brought out the next locust and dropped it into the second tank; Ian didn't mind that one. It was smaller, a uniform shiny black colour with a bit of a brown shine, and a yellowish stinger. It still looked like some sort of monster, though.

"Y'know, Malcolm, Grant came to see me the other day," you explained, "he didn't mind the scorps - he actually helped me."

Ian grimaced slightly; he liked and respected Grant, even considered him a friend, but that wouldn't change his mind. "That won't work on me, you know that."

"So did Sattler," you hummed, locking the second tank and opening the third.

The smallest of the three, it was almost impossible to see with the naked eye; dark brown amongst darker substrate, it was so small that you had to crush the locust's mouth parts before serving it to the little thing. It was, in a way, cute with its small pincers and even smaller stinger.

"Please tell me you're finished," he hummed, and once you had put the tanks and live food back, you nodded. "Did you, uh, did you speak to Sattler recently?"

You nodded as you dusted your hands off and opened one the other tanks; inside it sat a large snake, which hissed in protest for a moment before pressing its mouth to your hand.

It stopped hissing, and laid its head on your thumb; it was an impressive size, with dark brown and black scales alongside yellow and orange markings. It looked perpetually as if it was pissed off. Just looking at its light brown head and black tongue, Ian could see that it was longer than he was tall.

"Yeah," you hummed, gently coaxing the snake out and letting it sit around your shoulders. "Remember? She called me about an interview or something she was doing."

"Oh, right!" He nodded, snapping his fingers. "I, uh, I forgot about that."

You gently placed the snake on the table and started to check over its body; mumbling to yourself about its eyes being clear and none of its scales being damaged. "Why?"

Ian rubbed the back of his neck, waiting for you to put the animal back before he dared to sneak up behind you, his hands resting on your stomach as he pulled your back to his chest. "Well, uh, a little birdie came and told me that someone told the press about us."

You turned around, your hands resting on the lapels of his jacket as you tilted your head to the side. "That may have been me."

"Uh-huh... and what did you say?"

"Nothing much, to be honest," you admitted with a shrug. "Sattler called me and said that people had been asking why you were here so often and what my opinions on InGen were, so I told her."

He nodded slowly. "So you didn't tell about us liv-"

"No," you shook your head. "We agreed. The fact can be public, but not the detail... except the jacket, I told her about you buying me that fancy leather jacket."

Ian nodded back at you for a moment before coaxing you to sit on the table, he stood between your legs and pressed his forehead to your shoulder. "I need to snuggle."

"Why?"

"Cold." He huffed out, practically trying to wrap himself around you.

With a quiet laugh, you pushed him away, daring to kiss his nose. "I have work to be done - unless you have the population density chart of javanimetrus cyaneus in Borneo compared to the Philippines and Indonesia and how it's changed since last year?"

Ian had no fucking clue what any of that meant, so he just smiled. Chaos theory was easy for him, mathematics in general was easy for him - but practical stuff like using those funny little grids and taking samples and collecting specimens to study their relationship to the environment?

He didn't have a clue.

But just as you could listen to him waffle on about his latest theory or whatever, he could listen to you waffle on about how the population of animals like scorpions, spiders, snakes and roaches could determine how healthy a local environment was.

He still didn't know what the fuck a biome was, even though you had explained it thousands of times.

random jp headcanons lets gooo

gonna have lots of alan stuff because i have like. a whole backstory for him lol. he just like me fr so i get to make him trans and autistic.

this is mostly for before the events of JP1 and right after. ian doesn't know he's nonbinary yet. doesn't know until probably... after jp2 i think, when his books become more popular. so i'm gonna be referring to him as a man in this post. (see my post about my nonbinary/genderfluid ian headcanon if ur confused)

- ian makes jewelery as a hobby in his spare time. made his turquoise necklace himself. LOVES turquoise.

- ellie has a houseplant addiction. don't ever send her to home depot, she WILL rescue all of the succulents. and once they're healthy, she gifts them to her friends. alan complains and insists he can't take care of a plant, that he doesn't have a green thumb, that he would somehow kill it accidentally within a month. but every time ellie stops by his trailer to come and visit, she notices that little plant thriving, for years.

- alan hyperfocuses so much on his work that he often forgets about everything around him. he could sit in the dirt for hours without end picking at fossilized bones, scrutinizing every tiny detail. at least he remembers to stay hydrated, though, always has his water bottle with him. dehydration is no joke, kids! especially out in the desert!

- alan was raised in a rural christian family. they never understood him or any of his interests. in high school, he had a very kind geology teacher who happened to be gay. he helped alan figure out his identity and get into college to become a paleontologist. alan's parents ended up kicking him out on the morning of his 18th birthday, since he just couldn't be the perfect christian daughter they wanted. without the support of his teacher, alan would've never won a college grant, and he would've been homeless. alan truly put everything into his career. every single time alan tried to write a letter home to his parents, it would be returned unopened, so he had to give up. alan started testosterone at 20 years old, it took him two years to find a doctor willing to help.

- alan and ellie met in college. alan was already a few years into his studies by the time ellie got in. alan had never had very many friends in his life, he tended to keep to himself and work alone. ellie's persistence eventually paid off, and after an expedition to the hell creek formation with the rest of their class, he was impressed with her knowledge of mesozoic plant life, and they became good friends.

- a couple years into their friendship, they realized they both have feelings for each other. alan comes out to ellie, terrified she'll leave him, but she doesn't. she doesn't understand at first, but she tries to, and she does her research (she LOVES researching things). she ends up helping alan a lot, making him a couple of proper binders (no more bandages or tape!) and helps him do his testosterone shots.

- they've dated on and off for a long time before the events of JP1. however, the traumatic events of isla nublar were just too much and put a significant strain on their relationship. their feelings for each other never went away, but ellie just couldn't do dinosaurs anymore, after all she went through. she felt she needed normalcy, but alan is alan and he wouldn't be himself without dinosaurs. so they mutually called it off. and she also always wanted to be a mom. and alan insisted he couldn't, he could never provide her what she wanted. yes, there's other ways to conceive, but it's deeper than that. deep down, he was afraid of turning out like his own father. heartbroken, he had to tell ellie to move on and find someone better for herself. after she began dating mark, alan became distant and isolated himself.

- before ian came into the picture, the only person alan had ever dated was ellie. alan's old fashioned, he never thought that someone like him could also like men too. he'd always distanced himself from anything 'queer', more for his own safety than anything else. but he also struggled a lot with internalized homophobia and transphobia. he thought it was a sign of femininity and pushed aside his attraction to ian for a very long time.

- alan is definitely an unsafe binder. he would often just forget he's wearing it while he's out on a digsite. when ellie's around, she would often have to remind him to take breaks. but when it's just himself, he's stubborn (and extremely dysphoric) so he usually forces himself to power through the whole day, ignoring the discomfort. it's easy to ignore when you're uncovering the remains of long extinct animals.

- thanks to his digsite getting enough funding from hammond, alan finally manages to save enough money to get top surgery about a year after the events of jurassic park. ellie takes time off to help him through recovery, but after that, they unfortunately become distant again. he tells ian he's recovering from carpal tunnel surgery. ian knows he's not telling the full truth, alan is very easy to read, but he doesn't press for more, respecting the man's privacy.

- and yes, this means he was binding almost the entire time while on isla nublar. he was in survival mode, only focused on his own safety and lex and tims', and absolutely nobody could know he's trans, so his stubborn ass powered through it, adrenaline blurring any pain. by the time everyone was rescued and off the island, it turned out that alan had bruised and cracked his ribs.

- for a month after the isla nublar incident, alan and ellie stayed with ian, helping him through the worst of the healing process. there was no way they would leave him alone after such a horrific, life-changing leg injury. it was difficult for alan, juggling a sexuality crisis and having to hide his, well, transness, in another man's household, the same man who caused this sexuality crisis, but he made it work. the memory of that time is a huge blur to ian anyways thanks to the pain meds. during this time, the three began to feel something more for each other, but it remained unspoken. alan doesn't even know that there's anything other than monogamy. unfortunately in my headcanon dinot3 doesn't become real until dominion 💔 i'm a slut for slowburns lmfao

okay, this is all i'm gonna write for now! i'd love to hear anybody's thoughts on these. i love these bitches sm they live in my head rent free. honestly i've been tempted to like... make a fanfic rewriting jp1 but with my headcanons, but that's too much work and i have a very bad habit of starting projects and never finishing them 💀 so probably not gonna happen. it's also very difficult trying to find any resources about how life was like for trans men back in the 80s/90s.

Jurassic World Dominion — My Edition — Maisie Lockwood

When it comes to Maisie Lockwood, I wasn’t all too bothered by what was done with her character, but I’m on the same boat as RazorRex as Maisie’s character had missed opportunities. Her backstory from Fallen Kingdom will remain the same, but is expanded on in my edition of Dominion.

With the whole “cloned by grandpa” resolution, Maisie is dealing with the thoughts of being an exact clone of her mother.

She wonders whether or not she made the right choice to free the dinosaurs from the toxic gas that flooded the laboratory under the Lockwood Estate.

She constantly has trauma-driven nightmares from her experiences with the Indoraptor.

After she and Beta are taken by Rainn and the poachers, Maisie does what she can to make Beta less scared by doing her best to confront the baby raptor in whatever way Maisie can.

At the Biosyn lab, Henry Wu asks Maisie if she ever recalls being sick at one point, with Maisie answering that she never got sick at all.

It’s then revealed by Henry Wu that Charlotte Lockwood didn’t die from a car accident, but died from cancer. Charlotte was working on a cure for said cancer by studying dinosaur DNA. But before Charlotte could use the cure on herself, she died. Benjamin Lockwood, devastated by Charlotte’s passing, used her research to make his recently cloned granddaughter immune to any illness.

With that revelation, Wu goes on to explain that he wants to use Maisie’s DNA to work on a cure for the DX disease. Maisie reluctantly agrees, but on the condition that Wu will set her, Beta and Blue free. Wu complies and makes it look like Maisie broke free on her own.

In the hyperloop, Maisie tells Alan and Ellie that Maisie is the one that freed the dinosaurs back in 2018.

After retrieving Beta, Maisie volunteers to carry the sleeping baby raptor. During that, the sleeping Beta rubs her head against Maisie’s shoulder and neck, slightly hinting that Beta starts feeling as comfortable around Maisie as Beta feels comfortable around her mother, Blue.

Okay, imagine this scenario!

I was thinking of a Jurassic Park-style + Survival show. I haven't seen the movie franchise completely and don't know the history so this isn't related to their lore.

Sunshine character that has always loved animals. Finally works at the Dinosaur Island and she's a fan favorite among the crowd, always had a special bond with the animals. Until the place suddenly goes haywire, everyone except some random park visitors and specific people is evacuated. In the beginning, they thought it was just a coincidence. Until they find out the cameras in the place are live-streaming them as if they were on a survival show even having commercial cuts.

They go through the basic challenges and slowly she starts losing friends. Notices the animals are not themselves anymore, that she can no longer trust them. Has to do what she can to try and survive even if it means hurting them, since there is one final way out. The first time we see her switch from her bright personality is when she sees a dino eat her friend. It's the first kill of the whole thing, then we see her scared and crying. Until she has to take up one of the challenges pushing or throwing everyone off a ledge, taking a risk that her favorite and bonded animal is still good and will help them.

In the beginning, I imagined her in the park uniform, her boots had pretty charms on them, a pretty hairstyle, and glasses. By the end, she's a wreck, wet, and dirty, hair out of place, and blood that she didn't know if it was hers. She had a natural light to her in the beginning but now she's just darker. During all this, they are activating bombs and trying to figure out who is behind all of this. Once they get to the escape pods or helicopter right when she is gonna get on she drags a guy off. For a second everyone thought she was behind it but no it was the guy, she closed the helicopter door and told them to leave. Even if they aren't right she can't leave that place behind, she tussles with the guy but she wins.

Villain: “You know this means you won, right?”

As he is sat criss-cross, bruised, tied up, disheveled, and smirking or tired smile.

Sunshine character who is now broken sitting in front of them with a detonator in their hands. “Yeah, I know”

In a blunt tone as they naturally press the button exploding/killing everything around them including the villain and herself.

Just to add a angst, the villain wasn’t a random bystander. It was someone she worked with, someone she trusted. Maybe they even liked each other, had a “date” planned and everything. The first kill was on purpose the villain didn't like how close she was with that guy. The villain thought they would escape together and live happily ever after, and in some twisted way, he technically won too. Getting her in the end dead or alive.

I can imagine her pressing the detonator in 3 ways. 1 is the one up top 2. She has his head in her lap and is playing with his hair in a way trying to comfort herself, then pressing it while trying to hide her face. 3. Her saying the line with a broken smile, leaning in to kiss him, and pressing the button.

Rewatched Jurassic Park 1 & 2 for the first time in maybe 5-7 years and still impressed by how well both hold up. I despise the fact that JP2 got a bad rap for so long when I feel that it was an excellent follow up. Honestly it feels like the only thing that people ever clowned on & disparaged JP2 for was Kelly’s Gymnastics Attack and not much else, which though cheesy was cheesy in a very endearing way IMO similar to Lex being a hacker prodigy in the original and most certainly not fall on the floor, give this movie a Razzie Award level moment.

Speaking of Kelly Malcolm though, I remember being in some way spiritually fulfilled as a kid not only seeing Ian Malcolm in loving disaster dad mode but being a dad to a spunky black girl who was a major part of the cast. Interracial/biracial parentage at least to me felt extremely underrepresented in media of the time & Ian & Kelly had a great & believable relationship in the film. Watching both the OG Jurassic Park films wasn’t only a treat but reignited my disdain for the Jurassic World Trilogy which I felt was absolutely bereft of characters even half-way endearing as the cast in the first. A feeling I felt was validated by Jurassic Park Dominion pitifully dragging Ian, Grant & Sattler back into the mix.

Still pissed that the originals didn’t keep Grant & Sattler together nor capitalize on the obvious throuple potential of the 3 Docs in JP1 either 😂

The real Rebirth of the Jurassic Park franchise

I‘m so hyped for the upcoming Jurassic World movie, because it looks so exciting and fresh, but I personally think the real Rebirth of this franchise began with Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory. These shows really brought back the old Jurassic Park feeling but also combined this with the action sequences of Jurassic World. These shows gave us new interesting and relatable characters, who you can really feel with just like in the first two movies. Also they were the first who brought us back our lovely Spinosaurus and they brought back the moral Questions, who were last present in the lost world and the first movie. And some cool new Dinosaurs, which we either never saw in the movies or just had a short scene in the World Trilogy.

The Boat

This is the first chapter in my Jurassic Park inspired fic!! It focuses on Sal (one of the interns and OCs from my previous post for @fyeahjurassicocs bingo challenge 😌) who has taken a boat from Isla Nublar and is escaping, trying to get medical help for Ian Malcolm, who otherwise will die from sepsis/blood loss. The veterinarian for Jurassic Park (Dr. Gerry Harding) is useless when it comes to saving human lives and so the best chance for survival is to head to InGen’s other primary location, on Isla Sorna, where Dr. Henry Wu is confident they will find help-after all, his brother is in charge of the so-called “Site B.” 

Without further ado:

The Boat

Sal was scared, alone, standing at the helm of the ship, wondering what she could do to keep them safe, determined not to fail after having come so far. She pulled the ropes back on the sail, adjusting slightly, trying to keep the course all the way ahead, to that island north of where they left, the one Henry Wu had told them all about, the one called Isla Sorna.

She shivered as a chilly gust of wind blew quite fierce through her and the sails. White caps of large-crested waves sprayed over the edge of the sailboat, filling Sal’s eyes with stinging salt. She blinked quickly, rubbed her face on the sleeve of her light sweater, and shook her head-anything to clear her vision. Gasping for breath as another wave hit, Sal shut her eyes and mouth as she rocked with the movement of the vessel. It was easier to adapt to the water and go with its flow than to obstinately hunker down and try to steer with uncompromising motion. By swaying with the jolting of the boat, she stood firm, making sure to always angle the path north. 

Once we get there, many concerns will have to be taken care of, Sal thought. Food, shelter, hygiene, defense…and of course Ian Malcolm’s leg…But in the meantime, she pushed those concerns away like clearing off a table and focused on the task at hand. Stay the course. Endure the storm. Reach the shore.

As the sun rose Sal still stood statuesque at the helm, steering towards the rosy red horizon. As if a dream had begun to fade into reality, she noticed a small swath of black at the bottom. Squinting, she realized it was true. An island loomed in the distance, and her boat was headed straight for it.

Angling the sails once more northward, Sal grinned in spite of everything. They were bound for land! 

That spark of hope kept the boat moving as surely as the winds did, sailing off into a strange, old world.
