For as long as Colin Bridgerton has plagued my mind (since June 13) so too has this man.

Let me start this appreciation by saying an apology for ignoring Luke Newton for a very long time. And also for doubting him before the S3 release. I have been sleeping on (and most likely blinded by Nicola) that I never noticed this beautiful, talented man who, if not for him, the Polin story wouldn't have had the magic that it profoundly has.

Along with rewatching S3, I'm also rewatching S1 and S2 to fully catch the brilliant performance that Luke has been displaying as Colin Bridgerton. Truly, S3 has made me confront my personal biases and it made me realise how I was projecting my own ideas of what a man should be like on Colin Bridgerton when he is a distinct character in his own right. A lot of what makes Colin such an interesting character for me is how subtle Luke plays him.

There are this tiny inflections in the way Colin talks that is so particularly him. Even the way Colin moves/walks and his mannerisms changes from each season. The ground work Luke put in on Season 1, where Colin is particularly charming and naive, paved the way for this realistic (at times, heart wrenching) maturing that Colin goes through after learning that Pen is LW in S3 giving the Polin love story this weight of authenticity that we have not seen on Bridgerton.

Luke made Colin, a privileged, white man, so endearing that we feel that we are robbed of what Colin's character could have been in his own season (I have a counter-argument on this topic but I'll focus on Luke Newton). He may not be as talkative as Nicola but I think one of his nerdy alter-egos is one who loves to deep dive into character work and that is why him and Nicola get along so well.

I am a forever fan and I've put him on my list of actors that I have followed since their breakout roles (like Josh Hutcherson and Tom Holland). I do hope that he gets to build a strong screen portfolio (I remember he said that he loves doing screens more compared to live performances as he loves the subtleties of the screens). But I'll manifest a Broadway musical for him just so I can hear him sing again.

To Luke Newton, thank you for giving and sacrificing yourself for the past 5 years for Bridgerton. I hope you are surrounded by good people who will equally push you and ground you.

I hope you get all the best chances the industry that you love has to offer because you deserve to continue waking up being thankful that you get to act for a living 🥰

Twitter is weird about josh bc they want Rachel to date Tom (bc he’s their white boy of the month). Also, I think that same group want him to be more vocally Mr. Rachel Zegler when I don’t think Rachel nor him have the career or GP’s interest for him to be all Mr. Rachel the way Tom Holland can be Mr. Zendaya. Like if he were to simp on main, no one would care. Whereas if Tom were, at least 5 major publications would release an article about it. (I say this as someone that loves TZ but they totally play up how beloved they are the 3 times a year they want attention).

I definitely think people who are being nasty towards Josh are doing it because they want Rachel Zegler to date Tom Blyth, stan culture never changes. But the grooming allegations they're using are so wild and inappropriate to me, when we're talking about two co stars who met on set, developed a relationship 2 years later and were both consenting adults while doing so. Like, they have a four year difference if I'm correct, their careers are basically on similar levels so there are no weird power dynamics and from the limited time I've been following Rachel, she seems perfectly happy with him. Taking away her agency by "protecting her" against her own partner is exactly the reason why we've lost the plot when it comes to the conversation about age difference in couples.

Also i really really don't know much about their online presence but the fact that he doesn't comment much on her posts is nothing lmao i can't believe anyone would use this as a sign of a weak relationship.

The best current actors and the film/TV show that proved it to me

There are a lot of incredible actors out there, and more emerging every day. And it’s difficult to choose who my favourites are, however there are some actors that to me are just a little bit above everyone else. 

Florence Pugh  Florence Pugh is without a doubt an amazing actor, and is actually one of my favourites. She has starred in some of my favourite films, and is set to star in others that I’m unbelievably excited to see. 

There are a few reasons why I love Florence Pugh’s acting, but the big one is her ability to portray such deep emotional scenes. Her ability to act out: terror, love, anger, sadness, grief and so much more is masterful and really sets her apart. 

There are a lot of films that have showcased Florence Pugh’s abilities, one of my favourites being Midsommar. However the film that really to me displayed how incredible of an actor Pugh is, is the 2022 film; The Wonder. 

Florence’s ability to embody her character so beautifully was so enthralling and captivating and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire way through. The way she is able to act out such deep and intricate emotional scenes with so many layers and nuances... I would not be suprised if there was an Oscar with her name on it in the near future. 

Tom Holland  I will admit I used to not be a big fan of Tom Holland’s work, I had only seen him in Spiderman and I found myself associating him with the character too much and struggled to separate the two. I was not a fan of the hype surrounding him and because of this I had a real unfair bias for him. 

However this has since changed. The reason why? The 2020 film; The Devil all the time. This film was incredible and Tom Holland’s acting was off the charts and it really changed my opinion on him. 

Holland has a real talent with accents, and it’s rare (at least for me) to be able to find an actor that can preform with a realistic accent at different volumes and with different tones and pitches. 

Sebastian Stan It’s no secret that I love Sebastian Stan, I’ve followed him and his projects for a while now and it’s rare for me to be disappointed. Sebastian Stan is the sort of actor that I love for so many reasons, but the main one? His ability to act and display emotion silently and without words. 

He can express and portray so much emotion and feeling through his eyes and his facial expression that he doesn’t even need to say a word. He is has the ability to do comedy, romance, horror and action, and he does it all well. 

The way he so seamlessly slips into his characters and really becomes them is so incredible to me. 

The project that shows this the most to me though is the 2012 drama series; Political Animals. His depiction of TJ Hammond was so heartbreaking, and so (no pun intended) addictive. 

Timothée Chalamet  Timothée Chalamet is another one of those rare talents that is just so much more. I don’t quite know how to describe it, but there is simply something about how he commands the screen, how he captures your attention. 

His ability to emotional connect with his co-stars and show that on screen is so beautiful, the chemistry he has with everyone in CMBYN is enthralling and makes the film so much more beautiful. 

However it isn’t CMBYN that really showed the extent of Timothée Chalamet’s skill, in my opinion. That goes to the 2018 film; Beautiful Boy. The acting in the film is incredible. Timothée was really able to capture all of the pain and hopelessness of addiction, as well as the hopeful and soulful moments of recovery. When I watched this film, I wasn’t watching Timothée acting out a character, I just saw his character living. There was no disconnect between the two. 

Josh Hutcherson Now, on this one I am admittedly a little bias. I grew up on films starring actors like Josh Hutcherson, one of my favourite films growing up was Bridge to Terabithia. However I don’t think I’m being bias when I say this actor has some serious skill. 

The Hunger Games has long been one my favourite film series (and book series), so I obviously had quite the crush on Josh Hutcherson growing up. However his inclusion on this list is not because of that. 

It’s because of his portrayal of Peeta Mellark; more specifically in Mockingjay Pt1. The way Hutcherson acted out Peeta’s downward spiral while in the captivity of the Capital was mesmerizing. I remember being genuinely afraid for him when watching the film, even after multiple rewatches. The way he acted out Peeta’s fear, rage and hate after he had been hijacked was so unbelievable incredible I can’t even put it into words.

I first saw him in The Witcher series, then played The Witcher 3, then started reading the books. I am definitely obsessed with this man. And if I write too much on Geralt, I'm libel to make headcanons or maybe even an entire fic on just Geralt's hair or the way his eyes seem to glow under moonlight. See? Obsession. He is also my comfort character. I go to sleep and imagine running in the woods to this man. What the actual fuck?

Walter Marshall - Night Hunter (2018)

Seeing as how I am currently writing fic about this man, I think it goes to show this is a well-crafted yet moldable character and he can do no wrong in my opinion. Unless he dates Rachel, that's wrong in my opinion. She doesn't even have a last name.

Joel Miller - The Last of Us Games, The Last of Us series

Now I would be remiss to not mention Pedro's portrayal of Joel Miller (and that it solidified his status a my cool slutty daddy). But I must talk about how Troy Baker's voice in the game gave me strong Daddy vibes and gave me my second crush on a video game character after Lara Croft when I was a kid.

Ethan Hunt - Mission Impossible films (1996-Present)

If you know me, you know I have seen every Mission Impossible film since the first came out when I was 9. I was, and will most likely always be, obsessed with these movies. I love the heart-stopping action moments, the raw emotions, and I really like when Tom Cruise almost dies in every movie.

Peter Parker - Multiple pieces of media but I will focus on the films

In 2002, I was 15 and liked the older man that was Tobey Maguire (I was a superfan of his and of Peter). I had a Spider-man trapper keeper for goodness sake! In 2012, I was 25 and I was crushing on Andrew Garfield as a contemporary, someone in my age group. In 2017, I was turning 30 and had a crush on what, to me, seemed like a little boy in Tom Holland (he was over 18 but still). Either way, when asked what my favorite superhero is, I always say Spider-Man.

Bernadine Harris - Waiting to Exhale (1995)

I was 8 when this movie came out and my Momma let me watch it with her. Little did I know, my mother was ready to divorce my cheating father. This character spoke to me and continues to speak to me. I still see my Momma when I watch this movie. She was so badass. And so sexy.

Olaf - Frozen films

Fun fact: I used to collect snowman figurines and snow globes. Knowing this, my young niece made me watch the first film. Josh Gad as an inept snowman who loves the idea of summer is so fucking dramatic that I watched this movie on my own plenty of times. I love him so much and I just wanted to cuddle him.

Castiel - Supernatural (2005-2020)

I started watching Supernatural by watching the live airing of Simon Said, the worst episode of the series some would say. But I stuck around. I wanted to see what the kids on LiveJournal were so excited about. Cue season 4 and this son of a bitch just waltzes in with his wings and his coat and his chapped lips that, to this day, have never seen any moisture. And I fell in love. Fun fact: my dad named his dog Castiel.

Frank Reynolds (but specifically as Ongo Goblogian) - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I have artwork in my bedroom over my nightstand of Ongo. This entire episode was gold to me. It was early season 8, I believe. Charlie was doing a Richard Grieco thing, Dennis was trying to get his erotic memoirs made into a Fifty Shades of Grey type thing. Mac was in the duster. Dee was in a smut film. Just golden. But then Frank was this Andy Warhol-esque art collector just doing the most. It was beautiful.

Louise Belcher - Bob's Burgers series and film

Louise, what can I say about this wonderful human that hasn't already been said? Louise is what I wish trauma didn't take from me. Louise likes to slap beautiful people, as do I. She is confused when she likes a boy, and so am I some of the time. And Louise has her comfort clothing item, her hat. I have my froggy robe and my penguin socks. In the latest season that just ended, it was pretty much confirmed that Louise is non-binary, as am I. My fiancee compares me to Louise on a daily basis and I just smile and tell her she's 100% correct because she is. Louise embodies me when I was 9 years old, right before childhood trauma took all of that away and replaced it with an old curmudgeon. I love my sweet Louise and no one can ever tell me that my love is unwarranted.

I also dont understand the extra worry about TCR press, while its true due to the writer strike some avenues of promoting have been cut off but literally tom holland is one of the biggest stars, just him posting on instagram can literally bring in viewers.

Tom if he chooses can literally promote his project on a number of podcasts such clayton davis podcast who works for variety or josh horowitzs podcast.

I suspect he will utilize the british media circuit such as british talk shows, bbc radio, interviews with ali plumb and greg james

He also has a red carpet, tribeca, cover shoots + print interviews like Im not too worried about TCR tbh from a marketing perspective , in addition with TV you can literally do interviews while the show is streaming.

like if anyone expects TCR to reach game of thrones, succession, euphoria , ted lasso, last of us, viewing numbers thats just not possible but TCR will still be fine in terms of viewing numbers especially when compared to other newer shows.

Everlark has had me in a chokehold for over a month now after rereading the series after 10+ years. All the fan art, fanfiction and think pieces on Tumblr/Twitter/TikTok are just feeding it. I can’t get over them, I go back and reread chapters just to feel something lol. So if you’re seeing this anon, my inbox is always open to discuss Everlark!

To answer your question I have no idea. I’ve gotten really attached to some fan art depictions of Everlark that I can’t imagine them looking like anything else. I assume you mean Joshua Bassett as Peeta and honestly, I don’t see it, but maybe? I think acting wise it wouldn’t be bad but I don’t think he fits Peeta’s physical description at all. Same with Tom Holland even vibe wise. Like Peeta is cheeky is a dark, sexy way instead of a goofball which is how I associate Joshua and Tom lol. Even browsing online, there’s no one in Hollywood right now that I think could do Peeta justice (he’s just soooo perfect lmao). Same (and especially) with Katniss. There is an abundance of young white men in Hollywood but only a select few young women of color.

I remember not wanting to watch the first movie when the cast was announced because Jennifer Lawrence looked nothing like how Katniss is described. It just wasn’t how I imagined her. And to an extent same with Josh Hutcherson. I only remember watching the first one. After watching all the films before they left Netflix, I think they are good movies even with their issues. And to be honest, acting-wise I don’t think anyone could have played the roles as good as Jennifer and Josh. They had great chemistry and I think they really understood Katniss and Peeta. The only young person I think could pull off Katniss right now is Zendaya, but she doesn’t really fit Katniss’s description either and she’s a kinda too old now. I know if they were to do a reboot today they would probably white-wash the cast again so I hope that doesn’t happen.

How do you think things are going with the Marvel Fantastic Four cast? I would really like to see Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as Reed Richards and Susan Storm, but Emily clearly doesn't want to play in superhero movies. And John has already starred, but apparently he will not return to the role anymore. In the role of Johnny, I would like to see one of them: Joshua Hutcherson/ Dacre Montgomery/ Harrison Osterfield. I especially like the option with Harrison, he is a good actor and Tom Holland's best friend and they have a great friendship and I think they would show it cool in Johnny and Peter's friendship. But I think Harrison has the least chance. He is little known and has little acting experience.

As much as I like Emily and John, they don’t need a Marvel film on their résumé. That’s for up and coming, aspiring actors and actresses, not Hollywood veterans (I’m happy to elaborate on that topic if you want me to). Between Josh and Dacre, I’d rather Dacre since he seems to have more star power (thanks to Billy Hargrove) than Josh. However, Josh has been in the industry since he was a kid! It’s just a shame, though, that his career went downhill after 2015. I don’t know who Harrison is…

To translate what it says in English:

Colorism has gone so rampant to the point we have people boldly out loud proclaiming anti blackness. The fact that he has said this twice already (despite already existing a Mexican spiderman;check his Twitter account) and refuses to see that this character was NOT MADE TO BE INTERPRETED BY PEOPLE LIKE HIM makes me gag and my skin crawl.

They already put a light skin Mexican (super young) actress to play America Chavez, a character majority displayed dark skin/black who adopted the Puerto Rican culture.

I think what bothered me was the Mexicans in the Twitter thread defending this twat, being in (black) Puerto Rican business. Saying shit like “Josh Brolin isn’t from Titan” or “Tom Holland is British”. Pretending to be purposely obtuse.

I just find it hard to be believe daily in hispanic solidarity with these clear messages. The anti blackness was rampant in the twitter thread and quotes, not to mention the complete disregard for Puerto Rican culture and our feelings of constantly being erased. But are the same people that enjoy Puerto Rican music and our colloquial languages used in said music. The same people that have these traperos and wannabe reguetoneros appropriate our language.

And you know what…I find it hard to believe that marvel wouldn’t pull some shit like this. I mean why not? People blindly and stupidly cheered on for the casting of America Chavez surely they can pull it again. No…who knows. They got away with her but there would be riots and arson if they tried to pull some bullshit with Miles. Miles at this point is a Puerto Rican icon.

I’m so bitter though. The amount of Mexicans and Hispanics roasting and rationing on Twitter concerned Puerto Ricans was disturbing.

You can not blame me or anyone else who feels like me to NOT believe in any of this Hispanic solidarity bullshit.

Hey!

Firstly I’d love to hear your thoughts about the Josh interview ! And secondly I’m interested to see if you agree, from the recent questions he has received about playing Bucky (also brought up at the end of the Josh interview) I get the feeling that Sebastian is kind of done with his time at Marvel? Not in a negative way, it’s obvious that he’s super grateful and I’m sure if they ask him back he would (if his schedule allowed), but if they didn’t I’m not sure if he’d be that disappointed. I think he’s kind of closed that chapter in his life I guess? He’s happy with how his character ended and he has closure? I mean he was was like 28 when he first played him and now he’s almost 40; it’s also probably a lot different now that key people he worked with on those movies (Chris, ahem) have moved on and aren’t around anymore. do you get the same vibe?

But anyways, as for thoughts on the Josh interview: first of all, I just really love Josh, and how kind and welcoming and open he is, and how at ease Sebastian clearly feels with him. That’s always so good to see! And I loved that Josh opened with the old Tom Holland joke and Sebastian actually took the opportunity to be like ‘sometimes I’m like, what am I doing, has this gone on too long?’ 😂 Also, I felt for him when he was like ‘and then his movie obliterated mine’ - I know he was joking because obviously Spider-Man was going to do much better but still, I was a little like ‘ouch’ 😅

And also, it was interesting to see that when Josh asked him why Sebastian was drawn to these big personalities when it came to the roles he picks, Sebastian sort of deflected and started talking about how amazing his co-stars were and how that makes all the difference. I wonder if there was a reason he didn’t give a straightforward answer to that question or if he just got sidetracked while being his usual humble self. What he said about fame was also very interesting, I never really thought Sebastian was fame hungry, exactly, but I kind of felt like he liked being famous to some extent? And I guess he does enjoy some of the perks to fame, but hearing him speak about it in this interview he seemed almost turned off by it, you know? Which I guess is understandable given the shit he’s given on a daily basis, but yeah, it was interesting to hear him talk about it so frankly. 

And ALSO (sorry, I’m rewatching it now and keep seeing things to comment on) the things he said about him being 39 and having been around for a pretty long while and that it’s taken a lot of hard work and people helping him to get people to keep paying attention to what he’s doing... That really struck me, it just almost felt like he felt like he was maybe saying too much, and it really hit home for me how much Sebastian is just a normal guy with goals that he works hard to achieve, but who’s also frequently frustrated when things don’t go as easily or as quickly as he’d like. Idk, that just felt very honest and real to me and I liked it but also I feel for him because he’s also dealing with those same struggles and insecurities we all are (getting older, trying to get noticed and be appreciated and stay relevant and all that). 

And then there was the thing I mentioned in this ask as well, about being the internet’s boyfriend and instead of commenting on how insane some people get, he just said he was grateful and that he loves when people feel a connection to him. Ugh, this man. He’s a special one 💖

As for what you're saying about Sebastian & Bucky/Marvel; I've been getting that impression too for a while now, but I never know if that's just me projecting or not 😅 It's entirely possible Seb will announce another Marvel project soon, which he may or may not already know about himself, but part of me also thinks he's ready to move on, for exactly the reasons you mention. And additionally, his career seems to be gaining momentum at the moment, so I can imagine he'd want to make the most of that and take any new and exciting opportunities that arise. That's not to say he hasn't loved playing Bucky and being part of the Marvel family, but yeah, I don't get the impression he'd be very disappointed if they didn't ask him back either tbh. Let’s see what happens, I guess! <3
