Liam Donnelly returns but Lafferty left for games against Luxembourg and Germany – Euro 2020 qualifiers

Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly and Ross County defender Callum Morris are back in the Northern Ireland squad for Euro Cup 2020 qualifiers. There is no place for Shayne Lavery. The community who love their favorite team can book Northern Ireland Euro Cup Tickets.

Michael O'Neill has named his panel for the upcoming friendly at home to Luxembourg next Thursday on September 5.Secondly for the Euro Cup 2020 qualifier against Germany at Windsor Park on Monday, September 9. Left out are striker Kyle Lafferty, defender Gareth McAuley, midfielder Mark Sykes and Linfield's Lavery.

Donnelly has been in sparkling form this season after moving into midfield. The former Dungannon Swifts man became Northern Ireland U21s' record appearance holder at center-half. He was shifted forward by Motherwell boss Steven Robinson. Donnelly has scored seven goals in seven games this season.

O'Neill is understood to have been at Celtic Park earlier this month to see the 23-year-old score twice in his side's defeat to the Hoops. Linfield forward Lavery has scored four goals in his last three games for Linfield. His brace against Qarabag last week thought to have been enough to seal his spot in the squad.

Just nine games into his stint at the Blues, the 20-year-old has earned rave reviews. He has been tipped for a move back to an English Premier League club by Linfield manager David Healy. However, he has been left out of O'Neill's squad, along with fellow striker Kyle Lafferty.

Norwegian club Sarpsborg 08, currently bottom of the Eliteserien, announced the signing of the 31-year-old on Tuesday. He could be in line for a club debut at home to Viking on Sunday. He will look to boost his international chances with a return to form in Norway.

Instead, the forward options are made up of Liam Boyce, fresh from his League Cup hat-trick for Burton Albion, Josh Magennis, Conor Washington, and Paul Smyth. There is no place for Gareth McAuley, still a free agent after leaving Rangers at the end of last season.

Aaron Hughes now retired and Daniel Ballard injured. Callum Morris has been called back into the squad of Euro Cup 2020 qualifiers for the first time since 2017. The 29-year-old is still hoping to earn a first cap after remaining on the bench for four World Cup qualifiers.

In the goalkeeping options, Trevor Carson replaces Conor Hazard, named alongside Michael McGovern and Bailey Peacock-Farrell. In midfield, there is no place for Oxford United's Mark Sykes as Niall McGinn returns to join Donnelly.

Alashkert 0-3 Celtic: Brendan Rodgers lauds goalscorer Callum McGregor

Manager Brendan Rodgers praised Callum McGregor as the midfielder scored in Celtic’s Champions League first qualifying round win over Alashkert.

Celtic overcame testing conditions to claim a 3-0 victory[1] and a commanding aggregate lead ahead of the second leg.

McGregor fired home the third goal in the final minute of normal time, after Odsonne Edouard and James Forrest had netted for the visitors.

“He plays with a lot of authority and personality,” Rodgers said.

“He’s a real attacking midfield player. We’ve got different types – Scott Brown’s a defensive one, Olivier Ntcham’s a passing midfield player, and Callum, who is an attacking player.

“He can go forward, break lines and score goals. He does it very regularly now and in big games. He’s a very valuable player to our squad.”

With the temperature in Yerevan around 30C, two water breaks were required after 30 and 60 minutes respectively.

Rodgers was delighted by how well Celtic’s players coped with the heat, and while Alashkert threatened on the counterattack, it was the Scottish champions who controlled proceedings.

Edouard reacted sharply to divert Forrest’s miscued volley home on the stroke of half-time.

The winger doubled Celtic’s lead soon after the interval with a close-range finish, and McGregor’s precise, low effort completed the victory.

“It’s breathless really, it’s very tight air, but I thought they coped with it very well. They’ll really benefit from that game fitness-wise and it sets us up well for the next leg.”

It seems, dear reader, that Colin Bridgerton has returned to the ton; and he does not come alone.  No, he is not engaged, he has evidently learned his lesson since Miss Marina Thompson.  However, only days after Lord Bridgerton’s return came a new face, a young lady by the name of Célestine Archambault.  This name may not sound familiar, but this author has done her research.  Célestine Archambault is the daughter of a French lord and an English lady, with whom Lord Bridgerton became quite enamoured when his travels brought him to Paris.  It seems that many had expected a proposal before his departure, however our young lord was unwilling to make such a commitment without consulting his eldest brother.  And so, dear reader, the Archambault family shall be joining us here in the ton, residing in Lady Archambault’s family home.  We can only hope that Lord Bridgerton has not made yet another grievous error in his choice for a future Lady Bridgerton.

Everyone, dear reader, including this author, had anticipated that Miss Cornelia Fitzwilliam would be the incomparable of the season.  However with the very recent death of her mother, many began to believe otherwise.  With her father long since deceased and her brother the new Lord Fitzwilliam, it was left to Miss Cornelia herself to prepare herself for her debut. Many were skeptical regarding her odds, particularly after Miss Daphne Bridgerton earned the Queen’s favour, but I kept my faith.  I assure you, dear reader, that should you see the way that the Duke of Hastings looks at her, you will undoubtedly share my certainties regarding Miss Fitzwilliam’s prospects this season.

From the moment Queen Charlotte declared Miss Daphne Bridgerton to be flawless, it became quite clear which of the Bridgerton sisters would be the incomperable of this year’s season.  However, Miss Dorothea Bridgerton seems not to bear any ill will to her sister, appearing to be perfectly content to remain in the shadows.  While Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton chaperone Miss Daphne through the balls, Miss Dorothea is chaperoned only by Lord Benedict. Evidently, this author is not the only one who knows which sister is most suited to attracting a significant engagement.  

Though I must admit, dear reader, that prior to his courtship with Miss Daphne, I had thought the Duke quite enamoured with the elder Miss Bridgerton. However, after spending the early hours of the Vauxhall soirée talking, and even dancing, with Miss Dorothea, only to disappear quite suddenly and spend the rest of the evening arm in arm with Miss Daphne.

Miss Daphne Bridgerton may be a diamond of the first order, the Duke’s loss appears to be another’s gain, as a certain Prussian Prince now seems to have set his eye on our very own diamond in the rough.

Many a reader will certainly remember Miss Eliza Huntington, the second daughter of the deceased Lord Horace Huntington, although it has been ten years since her departure from the ton.  Prior to her departure, the Huntington and Bridgerton families had been the closest of friends, and a betrothal between Eliza Huntington and Colin Bridgerton had seemed inevitable.  However, with the untimely deaths of Lords Huntington and Bridgerton, mere months apart, the Lady Huntington moved herself and her children back to her family home in Brighton, and the chance for an engagement was lost to time.

Now, a full decade since her departure, Miss Eliza Huntington has returned to the ton to make her debut.  And should the way Colin Bridgerton looks at her be any indication, it seems that an engagement may not be quite as impossible as we had all believed.

Dear reader, a scandal has come to the ton.  A scandal by the name of Georgina Pemberton.  Last season, Miss Pemberton had accompanied her elder sister to London for the season, under the guise of learning what to expect for her own debut.  However, despite having not yet debuted, it was the younger Miss Pemberton who received a proposal before the end of the season; a proposal which she very publicly rejected, to all of our shock.  This year, as she prepares to make her proper debut with a scandal still attached to her name, the Lady Pemberton has sent her daughter to stay with her dearest friend, our very own Dowager Viscountess.

Unfortunately for Miss Pemberton, even the support of the Bridgerton family may not be enough to protect her from the whispers that follow behind her, with not a single gentleman approaching her at the first ball of the season.  This author, however, found that Miss Pemberton appeared quite unconcerned with her lack of prospects at the Danbury Ball, as she spent the evening with a smile on her face and a certain Lord Benedict Bridgerton at her side

Why is the Duke of Hastings so opposed to marriage, you may ask.  Well, dear reader, I know the answer, and she has just arrived to London for the season.  Harriet Warwick became acquainted with both the Duke and Viscount Bridgerton in Oxford, where her father had tutored the pair — regarding both the classics and their futures in society.  The Duke and Miss Warwick courted for quite some time, and it came as no surprise when he finally proposed, shortly before he was due to leave Oxford. However, no one was more shocked than the Duke himself when Miss Warwick refused, offering no reasons or closure, and leaving the Duke forever sworn off of marriage.

This author may have been prepared to let bygones be bygones and let secrets rest, had Harriet Warwick not appeared at the Vauxhall soirée, only to ignore the shocked Duke in order to greet the Viscount.  Some may prefer to let sleeping dogs lie, but I am of the belief that sleeping dogs make for the best morning news.

Ever since the sudden and shocking death of Lord Featherington, the eyes of the ton have been on his remaining family, as we all wait to see who the new head of the family shall be.  And it seems that fortune shall not favour this family, least of all Miss Peggy Featherington.  As the eldest of the four sisters, it is no surprise that her new head of family wishes to see her married off, but he has chosen a most horrific husband indeed.  My dear reader, Lord Colborne is truly a vile man.   Thrice widowed and three times her age, Lord Colborne is known  for both his violent temper and oft injured wives and for ignoring his wives’ health in his desperate attempts at having a son and heir.  I, for one, would never which such a terrible fate upon someone as kindhearted as Miss Featherington and, my dear reader, it seems that a certain Viscount Bridgerton shares my sentiment.

But with the new season, Lord Beaumont has returned to London, fully prepared to propose at the Danbury Ballo, only to find that Vivienne’s interest has been entirely captured by a certain Viscount.

There is nothing so delicious as a scandal, Dear Reader, especially among London’s most notorious families.  And though Daphne Bridgerton has provided plenty of scandal for the season, it seems that Miss Winnifred Baxter now has her beat.  The lovely young lady, the only debutante to share the queen’s favour with Miss Bridgerton, has scored herself every Mama’s dream match: the Viscount Bridgerton himself.   After getting caught in a compromising position with the renown rake, Lord Bridgerton had no choice but to save the girl’s honour and propose.  Some may tell you that it was an innocent misunderstanding, but I, for one, am hard-pressed to believe that anyone innocent could win the Viscount’s hand.  After all, everyone knows that reformed rakes make the best husbands — but can the same be said of rakes who do not wish to be reformed?

Strikers Kyle Lafferty and Shayne Lavery have not been included in the 25-man Northern Ireland squad for the games against Luxembourg and Germany.

Lafferty signed for Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 this week but has not trained since being released by Rangers five weeks ago.

Lavery has starred in Linfield’s run to the Europa League play-off stage.

Uncapped Ross County defender Callum Morris is included and Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly is called up.

Donnelly, 23, has been in prolific form in a new midfield role for the Scottish Premiership club, scoring seven goals in seven matches.

The record appearance holder for his country’s Under-21s and a former captain of that side, his only senior cap to date came as a substitute in a friendly against Chile in June 2014.

Michael O’Neill’s side play Luxembourg in a friendly at Windsor Park on Thursday 5 September and then host Germany in a Euro 2020 qualifier three days later.

Morris, 29, has been included in previous Northern Ireland squads since switching his allegiance from the Republic of Ireland, for whom he played at U21 and U19 level.

Liam Donnelly has been scoring regularly for Motherwell this season

Defender Gareth McAuley is left out as he is currently without a club, while Daniel Ballard is injured and Conor Hazard and Mark Sykes are both omitted.

Lavery has scored four goals for Linfield since joining the Irish Premiership champions from Everton in the summer.

The 20-year-old was on target with a long-range effort in the Europa League qualifier against FK Sutjeska and found the net twice in the first leg of the play-off tie with Qarabag, including a stunning individual goal.

Lavery, whose only previous senior international appearance was in a friendly against Costa Rica in June 2018, will be part of the NI U21 squad and O’Neill indicated at the squad announcement on Wednesday that he can be drafted in “if needs be”.

Lafferty was released by Rangers in July after the final year of his contract in his second stint with the club was cancelled by mutual consent.

The striker has amassed 20 goals in 73 appearances but has not scored since netting in a 4-0 victory over Azerbaijan at Windsor Park in November 2016.

Northern Ireland are top of Euro 2020 Group C, having won the first four matches of a qualifying campaign for the first time ever.

Home wins over Estonia and Belarus in Belfast in March were followed by victories away against the same opposition in June.

Germany are three points behind Northern Ireland but with a match in hand – at home to the Netherlands on 6 September.

Northern Ireland squad named for Luxembourg friendly and Germany Euro qualifier

Michael O’Neill has named his squad for the forthcoming friendly against Luxembourg and Euro 2020 qualifier with Germany.

O’Neill has named a 25-man panel for the international double header.

Northern Ireland host Luxembourg at The National Stadium on Thursday, September 5 (7.45pm) before welcoming Germany to Belfast for a massive European showdown on Monday, September 9.

Northern Ireland currently top Group C following four wins from four.

They are three points ahead of Germany who have played a game less, while the Netherlands – who lie third in the group – are on three points after two games.

There is no Kyle Lafferty in the squad despite the striker’s move to Norway, and Linfield’s Shayne Lavery also misses out.

Meanwhile, Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly has been added to the squad following his stellar start to the season.

Ross County defender Callum Morris is also included.
