Flaming hot take, but not every movie or TV show needs to hit every individual diversity mark to be a good movie or show?
Like, please understand, I very much get the concept of intersectionality, and I know the actual statistics of minorities’ presence in the world and there is a whole lot of overlap that would be nice to see realistically portrayed in the media but it’s just like. Sometimes a story is just…A story. It’s one person’s story. And it doesn’t need to hit some specific diversity quota to be a good story.
Accept the movies about Latin people as a movie about Latin people. Accept the queer representation as queer representation. Take the story about the disabled person for what it is. But if it’s a story about a queer couple facing adversity, maybe don’t get up in arms about them not being the “right type” of queer for you. Wild idea? TELL THAT STORY YOURSELF.
Because sometimes that straight couple is dealing with other issues in their universe, and that’s why it’s not gay. Sometimes if you cast a black woman, that makes it a black story. And that Asian storyteller isn’t telling the story of a black woman. They’re telling their story.
So instead of getting mad that this isn’t the story YOU wanted to hear? Tell the story you wanted to hear. Because that one is theirs. And someone deserves to tell yours.
The diversity quota does as much of a disservice to storytelling as a lack of representation does. If you don’t resonate enough, make something we can resonate with more. Let us claim our stories as our own, and leave others to say what they want to say.
If we all tell our stories, I promise. Eventually you’ll find one just for you.

Hi, Jumblr!
I have been asked by my shul to put a call out on socials for a lecture we have coming up as a part of our adult education programs. It is to honor the 25th yahrzeit of one of our members, and in honor of his love of literature and science fiction, the theme is going to be along those lines.
Ideas floated by the adult education committee have been stories about the Golem and the traditions that have come from it, an author talk by a Jewish sci fi or fantasy author, or subject matter experts in Jewish folklore and storytelling. We're open to suggestions, though, and if you know of someone with expertise in a related area who would be open to speaking to our congregation one Friday this Winter or Spring, please let me know!
If anyone knows someone who would be open to doing a lecture or workshop for us and is qualified in any of these or related areas, please reach out to me! I greatly appreciate it!

Hebrew isn’t just a language — it’s a journey through time, a bridge between past and present, the spoken pulse of an ancient people still shaping their future.
Every word in Hebrew carries echoes of history, layers of meaning, and connections that stretch from biblical scrolls to the streets of modern Tel Aviv.
Take the word “aliyah” — today, it means immigrating to Israel, but at its root, it means “going up.” Not just physically, but spiritually, emotionally — returning to something higher.
Or “shalom”, a simple greeting that also means peace, wholeness, and completion.
In Hebrew, words don’t just describe; they reveal.
Hebrew’s roots are more than linguistic — they’re the roots of a people, a land, and a story thousands of years in the making.
A word written in ancient stone finds new life in WhatsApp messages.
The same letters that carried divine wisdom in Kabbalah now spell out coffee orders in Tel Aviv.
The Bible and a Tel Aviv newspaper use the same language, separated by millennia but bound by continuity.
For centuries, Hebrew lived in books, in prayers, in whispered dreams of return.
Then, in an act of linguistic revival unparalleled in history, it was reborn as a living, breathing language — an ancient tongue shaping modern life.
Words once read in parchment scrolls now echo through playgrounds, markets, and music lyrics.
And the beauty of Hebrew?
It never loses its depth.
Every modern word is connected to its biblical ancestor, every slang phrase still carries a trace of something ancient.
In Kabbalah, the letters themselves hold cosmic secrets.
In daily life, the language reminds us that words aren’t just sounds — they carry meaning, history, and power.
To learn Hebrew is to tap into something greater than vocabulary and grammar.
It’s to step into a story still being written, a journey of resilience, revival, and endless depth.
Because in Hebrew, every word has a story. And that story is still unfolding.

hey, happy STS! what's your crew's (the werewolves, maybe?) favourite snacks and set up for a film night? what are they watching?
Oooh good question!
Aaron loves fancied up popcorn. Butter and garlic powder and Parmesan is his go-to, but he'll try anything once. Brian likes the popcorn and candy surprise, where you just dump whatever candy you like right in the bucket and eat it all together. Chris is less fond of this, bc melty chocolatey mess. But Aaron is always happy to shift and lick her hand clean, so shes coming around on it.
Their favorite burger place, Wolfman Jack's, has all kinds of cheesy monster movie decor, so the pack is slowly working through the Universal classics, your Frankenstein and Dracula and Black Lagoon types.

I close my ears every time these damn comics insist on gaslighting me by not only saying that Wanda Maximoff (and her family by extension) aren’t mutant but by Insisting that she’s Human.
That fuckass editorial/executive decision can suck my ass. Fuck whoever made that decision. I hope you find a cockroach in every room you go in.

I have a scene between a character of mine and his rabbi and was wondering if any of my Jewish (ethnically, religiously, or both) followers/mutuals/people who see this would be willing to read it over for me? I'm not Jewish and want to make sure I'm doing the faith/mannerisms/choice of Yiddish correctly.

Funny You Should Ask Review

Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman - 4.5/5 - Jewish New Adult RomCom
Every once in a while I will get into a book-adding session for my Libby wishlist. When this happens I will add a bunch of related books and then likely forget about them for a long time. A few days ago I was looking for a book that wouldn't be TOO long from my list. I knew that I had a Hannukka book coming soon and I didn't want to be held up when it came in. I mean, it's already Hannukka time! Got to get in the spirit! Turns out this book, Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman, was from one of my Jewish book-adding sessions! I love a surprise Jewish story, even if I apparently knew at some point. When I realized what this book entailed, I also recommended it to my mom for our mini book club. She said yes! I'm glad she did because this book was delightful!
Chani Horowitz is a well-known journalist/essay writer, having gotten her fame from a unique celebrity profile a decade prior. Gabe Parker is best known for having been the most recent James Bond. He's American, so many people didn't want him for the role, but Chani's article changed her mind. She spent a weekend following him around, getting close to Gabe in unexpected ways. When that weekend came to an end, they were forever tied because of the article -- except 10 years passed without them turning their spark into a flame. Now Chani is being asked to try and recreate the weekend. A lot has happened in those 10 years: ups and downs. So what could happen now?

I know I've been reblogging a lot of Attack on Titan stuff lately so I just wanna be clear, I do NOT in any way support legitimate anti-semitism or any of the other Actually-Problematic-in-Real-Life aspects of the manga/anime. It's just another flawed piece of media whose premises must be carefully interrogated.

I can’t take life serious anymore. This lady who is a Jew who survived the camps said “her sister had blonde hair & blue eyes so people never believed she was a Jew” 😒😩what the hell smh Jews are of the Caucasian race they are majority WHITE! I wish Jews stop trying to make themselves a race & if you have dark hair & a long nose you are really a Jew smh THAT IS NOT TRUE!
BEING JEWISH IS NOT A RACE! BEING A JEW IS NOT A RACE! Adolf Hilter killed them because of their religion & blamed them for Jesus’ death but that’s not dramatic enough for the Jews they made themselves a race & the rest of the world just became brainwashed & you know why??? BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE PEOPLE TELLING US WHAT WAS “TRUTH”! I can’t believe Jews literally believe this lie they been spreading smh they are not a RACE! And many Jews pretended they were Catholic once the Nazis took over that’s how many survived but they never tell their stories because they want US to believe Jews are a race & they was discrimination just on looks alone!

IMPORTANT QUESTION WHILE IT'S STILL STS: is chocolate safe for your werewolves to eat? How about grapes? Does it make a difference which shape they're in?
Lol one final STS :P
Asylumverse shifters are definitely not real animals, even in their animal forms. They borrow the pattern for their animal forms from astral animals on an entirely different plane. But either body -or any blended forms in between - is still just them. Their shapeshifting is more like changing clothes.
That being said, the connection to the astral animal can be a bit contentious. If the animal doesn't trust their mortal counterpart, they'll take over the body to act in its best interest. so there's a non-zero chance that you could get a werewolf who is convinced they can't eat chocolate bc their animal counterpart freaks out when they try to :P
