Fairy Tail inconsistency
During Oracion Seis Arc, I have noticed something which bothered me.
Wendy helped Gerald (Jellal) because she thought she knew him. But it turned out that he wasn't the Gerald she knew. There is no problem with that, except Brain knew Wendy and he knew she knew Gerald. If it was the same Gerald, it wouldn't be a problem but it was not the case in the story
So I thought of something that could explain why Brain knew. And why Gerald hid his identity.
Brain was aware of Edolas existance, because of his position in his previous work. And he met Gerald/Mistgun. He saw the potential in his magic, but the young boy left quickly with the young girl he was taking care of. Then Brain saw Gerald from Earthland, and realized he wasn't the boy he had met. So he did research on Wendy and Gerald/Mistgun. He was close to find Gerald from Edolas, but the latter understood that he wasn't the only Gerald in this world so he hid his identity. Brain never found his trace again. Wendy as she was a member of a guild, was easier to find. Brain let her grow up because he knew, he would see her again in the future.
English is not my first language, consequently I am sorry if there is any mistake.

You know people complain a lot about how NaLu never sails but I don’t think that we appreciate Fairy Tail as a series where romance basically never happens.
The only ships I can think of being portrayed as explicitly romantic—even if they never actually happen they’re clearly meant to be interpreted as romantic—are Gray/Juvia, Elfman/Evergreen, Jellal/Erza, Levy/Gajeel,,,, literally wracking my head and I can’t think of anything else. Which yeah four main ships sounds like a lot but there are so many characters in Fairy Tail they introduce new people every arc and most of them come back later. All of them have fans that adore them. And these are the only real ships I can think of.
Maybe Erik/Kinana? But I don’t remember ever seeing that confirmed in the anime. I think it might’ve been said in 100yq but idk I never got very far.
Anyway my point is romance is basically never the main focus and that’s such a breath of fresh air. And the ships that are there never really feel like they’re just there to be ‘in love’ their relationship always has some weight to it
Gruvia is is I think the worst of them and even then Gray means a lot to Juvia in a real way outside of her nonsensical obsession with him, he chased the rain away and that’s significant.
It’s just like,,, idk. Media is always so romance focused and it’s so nice to have something that isn’t. I think that’s why I keep going back to it

Okay I rarely post anything in general, but the latest 100YQ chap gave me enough of a nascent hope to motivate me.
So we got a new set of Oracion Seis this chap, somewhat obviously based on the OG FT ones. You have Racer, Brain, Cobra and Angel equivalents to the very least.

Now I dunno if the two on the left match anyone in particular. Could be the big guy is Hoteye cause Hoteye is big. Could be he's big cause Midnight had an illusion form. Not really the point of the post though.

(as an aside they could just be the equivalent of the original OS spread, Brain and Cobra fit, while Angel "fits" in the sense she's the girl. Bird guy only really fits the Angel thing cause of the feathers in the first place. Still leaves Hoteye and Midnight vague lol)
The Brain equivalent is a little bit too much of an equivalent. AKA he might actually be the original, revived as a demon.
So that opens up the gates for a very interesting matchup. See, Brain and a certain main character originated from the same arc.

In a way, Brain and Zero's actions are what caused Wendy's guild to vanish, as well as her to start her growth as a person and fighter.
I mean, plenty of other people helped her in that journey in more positive ways. Natsu, Gajeel, Jellal, Erza, and so on. But Brain/Zero is ultimately what forces Wendy to grow up before she should.
And. With him revived. We get a chance for a very interesting matchup.
Give me Wendy vs Zero 2.0 Mashima. You already feed Natsu three fights per arc. Surely Wendy can fight a big boss once per series. I wouldn't mind a team effort. Just let her have this. Will it probably be awfully mismatched? Will it require some little sillyness to be resolved? Is Zero perhaps a bit too old news for anything too exciting even with demonic stuff? Probably. It is that kind of series after all. Natsu ain't no stranger to absolute shenanigans.
Will it be cool to see? Honestly, I don't know. It is however a very interesting idea, at least to me.
Plus I wanna get Wendy's

equivalent of this

Now, one could fairly argue Wendy already got that moment. And that Zero is similar amounts "That bad guy in front of me" as Ezel. Plus she's probably over him by now. Still, I think it could be her best option for something that's not mostly gags. Cause Hiro does seem to have an issue with making her fights mostly gags in 100YQ. >.>
Anyway this is way more than I usually post ever, have a nice day if you actually bothered with my silly little post.

I’ve reached the point in my Fairy Tail rewatch where it’s further along than tfd ever got, which means shit keeps happening that makes me go “fucking WHAT”
#mobbtalks#I’ll be real tfd embedded in my brain more solidly than the actual plot did. because tfd is my baby#specifically I’m on the oracion seis arc which I mostly remember for trying to puzzle around how to like. actually tackle it in tfd#it was next up on the chopping block. when I hit the wall I was like. I’d say 3-4 chapters away from it#so the plot beats I remember -the seis themselves#- the guild alliance and (most) of who’s participating in that#- big weird land thing goes walkabout and they have to destroy all its legs at once#things I did not remember but that have BLASTED me. - Ichiya.#and I. I fucking hate to say it. bc I hated ichiya the first go round but I think he might genuinely be funnier in the sub? god. god.#maybe it’s also because every time I have an episode going I’m also doing a few other things#- the monkey guys. genuinely thought they were a filler side plot didn’t expect them to come back#- Erigor comes back???? I uh. I killed him off in tfd bc I forgot that. haha. whoops.#- fucking *JELLAL* which is something I am. quite frankly. *shocked* I forgot#this guy is at the centre of like. every goddamn arc <- exaggeration#things I half remember which have yet to be confirmed one of which is kind of alarming#- there was a guy who was real obsessed with potatoes?#- I’m pretty sure this brain guy was uh. white. he’s black. he also has a line about switching ‘dark’ and ‘light’. the implications of this#concern me.

"Oh, I remember you..."
This face was familiar. It hadn't registered at first - how could it have ? It was so long ago, just another set of features next to his across glossy pages. And it was so trivial, and hardly something he put a lot of importance on ( although it couldn't have hurt "Siegrain's" ego, surely ) -- but after a while, even with the revamped appearance, the memory came back to him.
"Didn't you use to be on the 'Wizards I'd Like to Be My Boyfriend' list ?"
@shinebrightlikealion liked for a starter ! ♡

Natsu's perspective of Erza's sacrifice in the Tower of Heaven
Natsu forced his eyes open when a horrible sense of wrongness flooded him at the sound of Erza’s pained cry.
His hazy brain couldn’t make sense of all the blue around him until jagged edges dug into his skin beneath him. He blinked to clear up his swimmy vision, his body pulsing in time with the rumblings all around him.
It all came flooding back. The Tower of Heaven. Eating ethernano. Feeling it ignite his insides and then mix with something previously dormant in him.
The fight with Jellal. Collapsing into the arms of—
Erza.
He could smell her. He heard her quiet, pained grunts.
He dragged his eyes over and his mind tripped on the sight of her arm being sucked into gelatinous ethernano.
‘Wait… What?’
His arms burned with the effort to push himself up; his head spun as he got to his knees unsteadily.
“E-Erza?” He croaked, his throat raw along with everything else. His body felt burnt from the inside, ripped apart and soldered back together. His muscles trembled like they would unravel at a moment’s notice. Something in his mind whispered that he had felt like this in a dream before, but it didn’t matter, because—
Erza jumped at the sound of his voice, and her horrified expression revealed itself when she whipped her head to look at him with wide eyes.
“Natsu—!”
“H-hey…” Natsu managed, his heart sinking as the sense of wrongness in the air grew. “I don’… don’t get it… What’re you doing…?”
Erza’s arm sunk deeper into the ethernano, but it looked like she…
His voice was much too close to a whimper when he asked, “Are you… try’na to go back inside that thing?”
After he had already pulled her out? After he had beaten Jellal? After they had won?
“I don’t have a choice—it’s the only way I’ll be able to stop it.” The panic in her eyes was mounting his own.
“What are you talkin’ about? Stop what?”
The shaky tower of crystallized ethernano shuddered, and chunks of it rained down around them. Something foreign yet familiar in Natsu’s veins simmered as light pulsed in all of the gemstones—a warning.
A countdown.
It was going to blow.
“Now you see,” Erza said as Natsu craned his head to watch cracks spiderwebbing all around them. “It’s the ethernano. If it continues to gain power, the Lacrima won’t be able to contain it, and the whole place will explode.”
She winced before adding, “Nnngh—But if I fuse my body with the magic energy, I think I can prevent that from happening.”
Natsu stared dumbly for a second as his exhausted brain digested what she was saying.
Fuse her body with…?
Panic sunk its teeth into Natsu, relentless and visceral. “I’m not gonna let you do that! There’s gotta be another way to stop it!”
But the tower began to pull Erza in, and she cried out in pain even as she allowed it to do so.
“Erza!” Natsu scrambled forward on limbs numb with exhaustion, but his feet wouldn’t work, and he couldn’t stand up. He could only stumble towards her and collapsed just in front of the giant stone taking Erza.
“I-I… I promise I’ll stop it,” she grunted out, “There’s no need to worry. I’m determined to save all of you!”
“No!” Natsu shouted desperately.
Gray’s enraged eyes flashed in Natsu’s mind; his ragged voice, his trembling hands. Pushed into a corner he couldn’t see a way out of. “I’m ready to die if that’s what I gotta do!”
Except there had been a way out. Because Natsu had been there.
“Don’t do it,” Natsu pleaded, and dragged himself closer. Black was edging into his vision. His muscles spasmed but wouldn’t lift him. He couldn’t move.
Erza’s eyes crinkled with hurt, and there was an awful resignation that didn’t belong in her eyes.
“I have to,” she whispered, and Natsu’s heart broke.
Her free hand came to cradle Natsu’s cheek even as he stared, slack-jawed and devastated and useless.
“I can’t even imagine what my life would’ve been like without Fairy Tail,” Erza said with the tenderness of a big sister. “If it weren’t for you and the others, I probably wouldn't be here today.”
Her voice became choked, then. “I hope you know… how important you all are to me. I care for you so much.”
“…Erza…”
She let him go. Her hand gently came away from Natsu’s face, and his cheek was cold.
His breath hitched minutely as she pulled away, disbelief stealing the air from his lungs at her absence.
“That’s why I’m willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. If it means my loved ones will be spared, I’ll gladly give my life—” Her face sunk into the Lacrima, sealing her from the outside world—from Natsu. “—so that you may live!”
This was happening.
His sister was going to—
Just like Gray had almost—
Just like Lisanna had—
Panic and adrenaline finally got his body working again. Natsu’s fists struck the Lacrima like two pebbles trying to break apart a mountain.
“No! No way! Come out of there right now!”
He hit it again and again and again, breaking bones, sending blood spraying from his knuckles, but he didn’t care.
He had saved her. They were supposed to go home together.
“You can’t leave us! NO! Plea—” His own desperate sob interrupted him, and spittle flew from his mouth. “Please!”
She drifted further into the Lacrima as if she were simply sinking into the sea, submerged by the blue around her and taken captive by the Tower that had once kept her a slave. Natsu was weeping, unable to see anymore and unable to regain his composure.
His sister—his sister—
White burned everything away as Natsu roared in grief. In defiance.
That familiar foreign simmering in Natsu’s veins turned to a boil. His body coiled and his muscles thrummed with the last dregs of power the ethernano had given him. The tower, packed full of the same magic churning in Natsu, lit up at the same time his heart ignited in pain like a chemical fire was enveloping it.
In demand.
“Erzaaaa!”
His fists slammed into the Lacrima.
The Tower of Heaven cracked.

question: how much of eriks past do the little ones know? like do they know that he's killed people before? how does things like that play out into the relationship between characters? or is this something that will be answered in a future chapter?
at this point? Pretty much all of it, definitely. Some of the worst points were downplayed, but ultimately it all came out over those first few months, at different speeds. It might come up in some of those oneshots but there's not really one particular moment, aside from one that will come up. As for how people react? Well, he's like the way less extreme to Acno, plus Erik came in looking sickly. It's definitely not a big deal to them. (I mean. Erik totally tried to attack Wendy upon first meeting and she ignored it lol.)
It does help that Erik was pretty fresh into said life of crime so his rap sheet is not thaaaat long. That said, outside of the dragon circle and a few others (namely Erza and Jellal) it's not really something he advertises. Like with Jellal. Part of it is not wanting to deal with that being public (understandably) and the other is not wanting to draw attention from Brain, wherever he is. (Especially at first. Now a lot of time has passed and Brain clearly never tried anything, but it's just awkward.)
#htryds ask#anon#erik#obviously makarov knows too#though not as many details as the family#but yeah even though Erik was upfront with the prickly parts and downplayed the trauma parts#it all came out eventually#sometimes accidentally like via nightmare#only one family member has consciously and successfully (mostly) kept a notable secret and it's not erik#although he is the one who knows#that's an upcoming oneshot though i still need to write it#mostly the dragonlings cope with their collective list of “the public would not handle that well” secrets#by telling each other lol#and close friends#if anybody knows one secret they'll know them all eventually#it's the “erik was kidnapped by cultists and almost joined a dark guild” and “natsu's brother is zeref and he's a demon” pipeline#except there is no clear direction for any part of the pipeline

Thoughts about how different mediums of a same story may give you different views (and rambling about the Tower of Heaven)//TW: violence
Lately I've been wondering about how manga readers might have very different visions than anime watchers of a same story, because althought the plot remains the same, some little details can change our whole perception of a story.
This reminded me of the first time I read Fairy Tail and how terrified I was at how cruel and dark the Tower of Heaven's arc is.
Jellal's face (that by that time, were only an 11-years-old kid) drippling blood while being tortured shocked me so much as a kid and I still find it one of the most disturbing scenes in the manga, lol.
In the anime, the content itself is the same. We know the kids are slaves that go throught different kinds of abuse, however, I find the manga way gloomier and more graphic. And althought part of it might be just a personal opinion, it's not entirely without basis: Mashima uses different techniques in his art to represent facts whitin the story than the animators, and it leads to a topic I really love: semiotics - how we interpret images, and how detais can be used to convey a certain felling throught art.
Colors and composition helps A LOT creating an atmosphere and causing a feeling on the reader. Proportionally speaking, a manga doesn't have colors, but it has it's own alternatives - the Tower of Heaven arc, in comparison to the rest of the manga, uses a lot more black and hatching.

One can argue some scenes are still "visually darker" in the anime, since it has the advantage of being able to play with shadows and colors in a broader aspect; however, since Fairy Tail is not an anime that changes it's saturation or colour pallete, the loud colors in most scenes end up not helping building the same dreadful atmosphere.

(It doesn't mean you can't make a scary story using bright and colorful tones, tho. A great example is the movie Midsommar. But it's not an easy task!)
Erza's childhood memories in the manga also carry a "dirtier" feeling; the kids are always covered by bruises, and the background is rougher. Also, the anime chooses to represent slavery in a more fanciful way: the kids wear stylized handcuffs and are assaulted with magic attacks, what inevitably softens the scenes by distancing them from real life slavery.
In a story, an act of violence will always be more shocking if your brain is able to automatically make a connection with real life. Seeing blood conveys a feeling of disconfort easier than a character being hit by a wave of magic, even if the author tells you "this is painful"; that's why some people say they started to find difficult to watch horror movies involving kids after becoming parents, because after experenciating something in real life, they connect with fiction harder.
The above scene causes me very different feelings in each media. In the manga, the despair in Jellal's face when seeing they removed Erza's eye is much clearer, and his skinny body, his eyes filling up with tears (he doesn't cry in the anime) shows not only a feeling of worry, but of utter dread and helplessness. All that helps endorsing the fact that, doesn't matter how brave he is, they are still just fragile kids, unable to protect themselves from the cruelty of the world around them.
I want to make it clear, though, that this is not in any way meant to be a critique to the animation team, or an affirmation that one type of media is better than another. We all have our personal preferences, but each media has it's target audience and objective. Fairy Tail's animators certainly do know how to convey the same feelings on the public, they just choose not to, for a variety of reasons. Probably because the anime is aimed for a broader and younger audience, many scenes have been softened or censored somehow. Also, animation consumes more labour than a manga page, so unless you have a lot of time and investment, the art tend to be simpler.

So do you think it affects the plot, Siren?
In my opinion, yes, even if just in a subtle way. In the manga, I think this raw brutality helps Jellal's character to gain a more interesting complexity. To me, he feels less like a hero and more like what he actually is: just a really kind and brave kid trying his best to protect his friends.
Another major change they made in the anime was removing the ambiguity (something that happened more than once in Fairy Tail's adaptation, such as in the famous kiss scene), leaving clear since the beginning that Jellal was a victim of a mind controlling spell; while in the manga, until Urtear's confirmation at the end of the arc, we do not know for sure if he have been brainwashed or just convinced to adore Zeref.
And as much as I can see why some fans might hate it because it leaves room for people to see Jellal as a bad man, I (as someone who is not afraid of loving evil characters, heh), find it interesting and somehow enriching to the plot, because it gives the whole arc a reflection: is extreme suffering, specially at such an young age, capable of changing someone so much?
We are left questioning what did "Zeref" say, or do, that made him change so much. And having so many real life examples where despair has made people easy victims of manipulation throught faith or falling into extremist ideologies, after we seeing Jellal's pain and fragility in a tangible way, it's not that hard at all to understand how he went insane and managed to drag all the other slaves along with him.
Also, I think it makes it easier to understand Erza's empathy towards him. Jellal and Erza are characters connected not only by the affection they nourish for one another, but also for sharing the same pain. She is the only person that fully understands the horrors he lived in the tower, since they were the only kids that have been in the torture chamber. And althought she never tries to justify Jellal's actions, Erza does not only show him compreension, but she feels guilty for not being able to retribute his protection and prevented him from losing his mind.
That doesn't mean, tho, that there weren't many other clues he was not acting on free will: be it his grotesque change of personality, his hysterical laughter out of nowhere or his motivations that doesn't hold (because they were never his to begin with). To me, all that at first glance makes him closer to Batman's Joker, someone that grew insane after so much suffering, than a villain that's genuinely just plain selfish and thirsty for power. And that only makes me find him a creepier villain, since personally, I find sadism and insanity way scarier than ghosts.

So this is just a looong collection of thoughts about how small choices can change a lot the "feeling" we get from a scene or a character. I hope someone can find it interesting too. There are many other examples of adaptations where it happened, and if you remember one you'd like to share, I would love to hear!
Last but not less important, all the love for Mashima's art, the Tower of Heaven arc (that is a personal favorite) and Jellal, a character I deeply love and one that holds for sure the strongest spirit in the manga for being able to become such a kind and mature man despite everything he has been thought. ♡

O great stars we are arriving the end of 100 years quest
They are going after Ignia
There is a fire related dark guild
Jellal already departed so we have -10 brain in the team
Dears, him asking to join Fairy Tail is soooo precious, and Erza is so proud, they are so cute, I want them to end in a wedding, PLEASE MASHIMA-SAN
Not so much pointed buuut, I find so funny that Wendy is still portaid as a child, like she is started in 12, so she is at least 14 by now, she looks the same lol 😆 (like yeah I still consider 14 a child but I thought that at least taller than the counter she would be)
Natsu wants a child, o dear, if Mashima doesn't make those two kiss by the near end of it all I give on the internet and going to live in the rain forest with my delusional mind

this is a list of moments where natsu is smart (but its also me yapping because i was getting bored waiting for every little instance) (episodes from 49 to 64)
- upon their first encounter with oracion seis, smelled them and alerted gray and everyone
- when carla told them that wendy's dragon, grandeeny, suddenly disappeared seven years ago, started connecting dots in his brain
- when fighting those bro-monkey goons, after getting shot at his back, simply incinerated bullets (were they physical? magical? anyways, cool)
- (look how friendly he is with erigor, meeting him after so long, how erigor is unnerved by it and gray is fucking done with him-)

- interrogated beat up goons about whereabouts of oracion seis' lair (sure, with erza-esque tactic "ask-punch-repeat", but at least he thought of it)
- (also, it must be their temporary place, but oracion seis' lair is so pathetic it's hysterical. we have grimoire heart with their cool-looking flying ship with mechanical heart, we have tartarus with their highly functional flying cube, and these have, like, a cave? where all your guild goon taxes went to? racer's motorcycles?)
- when natsu, wendy and cats reached fallen erza, he was quick to ask for help and point out that no matter what she may have done with jellal, erza really needed her help (well, not really smarts thing, but natsu's quick actions allowed wendy to finally pull herself together)
- when nirvana has activated its magic and sent a black light beam, natsu either sensed or figured that jellal was there were beam of nirvana is
- (okay, nirvana thingamagick has my respect for having nothing to do with zeref and co. but what was the point of its first stage, where people who are usually on one side of morals and are on the gray side for this moment, get their side of morals switched? sherry, who was grief stricken switched to attacking gray, wendy was nearing the switch with her guilt over jellal situation, but hibiki knocked her out, and hoteye was reminded of his time with his brother when fighting jura and he switched from being money-obsessed to being pacifist. very mixed bag of results if you ask me. hibiki later explained that the switching is controllable in final phase, but in the first one? is it more like a side effect of first stage for activating nirvana? prolly-)
- (lucy happy and carla saying that in case of switching natsu won't change much, and that he exists outside of framework of good and evil, they did NOT pull the punches, my favourite freak of the monster nature)
- (respect from me to angel, she summoned gemini for a prolonged period of time, and as far as i know they are rather magic-consuming, AND she was using her spirits cleverly, countering aquarius with scorpio and loki with aries)
- (also, gemini is such underappreciated spirit for how lucy moved their heart, damn)
- (and, like, uranometria is cool, but how did lucy even have enough magic power for it, if she was feeling weak after summoning in quick succession? eh, i'm nitpicking, but there is little else for me to do-)
- ("actually, i didn't die😒" sorano😭😭😭😭)
- (can you imagine a what-if "what if when wendy was travelling with mystogan, that anima that forced him to leave wendy never happened?" i mean, they look so much like siblings already, gosh-)
- (can you imagine being a kind hearted and optimistic kid in a god awful situation, and then getting brainwashed and manipulated into doing even more despicable thing, and later being freed from brainwashing and realising all the sins you've committed? god, take all the cramps from jellal and give them to, i dunno, brain)
- btw, when fighting cobra, was it natsu and happy's first on-screen airborne fight? mad respect for them and their team work!!!
- when fighting cobra, when he declared that he was going to stop nirvana, and cobra replied that he was not letting natsu near brain, natsu put two and two together and figured that it was brain who controlled nirvana
- when fighting cobra, he was rather fast in switching between tactics, first he just punched, second he tried rapid firing long ranged attacks, third he was hiding in ruins in ambush attack, then he fucking joked at cobra mentally and actually got him to laugh, happy even thought of faking their attacks. even cobra admitted that natsu was thinking a lot and that he had some not bad plans
- when fighting cobra, managed to get so into fight he was fighting without thinking, getting a couple of hits on cobra. that impressed cobra, leaving him to question whenever natsu is actually a genius or a total idiot, for he is seeing someone like that for the first time. hearing that cobra was a dragon slayer was what threw him out of that state
- got into cobra's close quarters, almost getting him to face a roar close up
- (they really only won because of natsu accidentally letting out an extra loud non-magical roar AND brain back-stabbing cobra)
- natsu, exhausted, poisoned, and motion sick, chomping into brain-

Headcanons? Yeah lets talk headcanons
Natsu's attention is hard to hold onto in a convo sometimes. He can be easily distracted by any new sound or smell that he might notice and it just splits his attention between the conversation and the new thing. Anyone outside of the guild thinks he's being rude because of this but he just can't help it.
It's an absolute rarity to see Erza fight bare handed. Sure she trains often to keep her hand to hand combat skills sharp but she almost never foregoes a weapon in a fight.
Evergreen is a big lover of the arts and is probably one of Reedus' most frequent commissioners. Everyone thinks she just commissions self portraits (i mean she does, but its not all the time), but most of the stuff Reedus does for her is nature scenery.
If Gajeel zones out while eating, there's a good chance he'll start eating his utensils too.
Juvia scarcely goes anywhere without an umbrella regardless of the weather. She doesn't use it half the time but she spent so long carrying one over the years it feels odd to not have one on her person.
Droy never brings this up but he is like, one of the best plant wizards in fiore and has helped on several projects to revive and maintain ancient plant breeds. He just never says anything because its not that big of a deal to him.
Pantherlily @ Happy & Lector- 'Young men I beg of you, please wear some pants.'
Gildarts and Macao are really close friends and always hang out whenever Gildarts is in town. Gildarts and Wakaba however, not so much (they're ok with each other lmao. Not really close to dislike in any sense, just casual acquaintances who happen to share a best friend.)
Jellal still works with the council but as a sort of off the books consultant. He's still a wealth of knowledge and knows how to work through the confusion of politics so Mest with reach out from time to time to pick his brain on certain things.
Out of the 3 siblings, Lisanna has the most variety when it comes onto transformations. She has more animal takeovers than Elfman does beasts or Mira with demons and she is always swapping out and changing what takeovers she has so she has an air of unpredictability to her with an ever changing roster of animal takeovers.

Middle of the night thoughts: im always going to be a sucker for the "character who seems averse to romance falling first" idea. Which is why I truly think Gajeel catching feelings for Levy first on his path of redemption would've been the superior choice. The idea of a formee villain who is only beginning to properly figure out friendship realizing one of those people he's befriending strikes a cord in a way the others don't.
Now as I was thinking about this, I was struck with the question "do we ever see a man in fairy tail fall first and pursue the romance?" I don't mean something like Lyon where he falls for juvia and nothing blooms between them. I mean genuine reciprocal romance where the guy is the one who has to wait or act first.
Cause I don't know if we ever do. It's common in shoujo for it to happen and honestly when it's done well it sticks in my brain and makes me giddy. But I feel like every fairy tail romance follows the same pattern and it's part of why most couples don't work for me.
Guy and girl meet and start off on rocky terms
Guy proves himself to be a hero by saving the girl and the girl blushes as she thinks he's cool and realizes she might be into him.
Girl gets jealous and indignant when guy is oblivious to her feelings and is friendly at all with other women.
Several scenes with misunderstandings are written in for drama and comedy as we play up how overdramatic a woman can be.
Guy realizes down the line he's into the other woman who becomes much more subdued when romanced.
It's a repetitive pattern. It's really disappointing because Mashima has decent concepts for couples that could be fleshed out in interesting ways if done right. Juvia and Gray could've been a slow burn due to Juvia figuring herself out beyond romance and Gray only falling for her when her true personality shines through without the veneer of romance (fjord and jester from critical role are a great example of this. Though juvia and Gray are not perfect parallels to them.) Gajeel and Levy could've been a slow burn enemies to lovers where Gajeel has to first prove himself as a decent person before Levy even considers a friendship with him and we focus on then finding common ground and working well as a team to build the bond (honestly beauty and the beast would be the best example of things for them, though again not a perfect parallel to my own vision.) Jellal and erza could've focused on the difficulties of forgiveness when the one you care for betrays you and how that can change a bond over time and the difficulties of moving forward from that. It could focus on the complexities of the feelings they have for each other and not just had them immediately fall back into some kind of romance with little to no build up. (I don't have a comparison for this. But these two move way too fast for me to enjoy them in canon)
Mavis and Zeref should've been a full will they won't they that ends with they won't because the circumstances of their lives won't allow it. A continuous dance and bond that would've lent so well to tension in scenes where they interact and tinged their moments with sadness and bittersweet longing.
There are so many ways to flesh out the romances in the series without constantly reusing the same formula with alterations barely made based on the personalities of the women. People who enjoy fairy tail claim romance is the one thing Mashima does well, but as a romance fan I have to say I don't think a single couple in fairy tail was well executed. I do love several of them, but that doesn't mean they were well written.
