"[Russell T Davies] made Rose an equal, not a sidekick. It is she who, on several occasions, saves the Doctor, rather than the other way round. As any parent with a daughter, I now look at Esme and think 'you could be the Doctor'. In 2005, as recently as that, such a thought would have been a pipe dream.
[Rose is] a woman with an independent mind, willing to confront received wisdom. Rose arrives on screen fully formed, one of the strongest female characters of any show, any year, painting a solid line directly to Jodie Whittaker.
If you think about it, the relaunch in 2005 was actually the first chance to create the first female Doctor. Why not do it then? Perhaps we should be looking back on Billie Piper not as Rose, but as the Doctor."
- Christopher Eccleston in his memoir I Love The Bones Of You
#i cannot find words to articulate how profoundly this affected me#i think all i can say is THIS is why i love rose. this is why she means so much to me.#he gets it. he gets her.#and he gets thirteen too#also the fact that he's said jodie is his favourite doctor <3#i love him aah#christopher eccleston#ninth doctor#rose tyler#billie piper#jodie whittaker#thirteenth doctor#doctor who

*strolls into tumblr and falls on my face pretending I haven't been missing for like a month I was out getting the milk hello maggots*
Doctor Who But I've Never Watched It 2.0
For those of you feeling deja vu YES I HAVE MADE POSTS ON DOCTOR WHO BEFORE OKAY but back then I was a young uneducated lad, just a fresh blossom unfucked by tumblr. Now I am surrounded by you lot and by god do y'all love Doctor Who. And I am Educated. My DW virginity is deflowered. All that.
SO HERE WE GO, EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW I'VE NEVER WATCHED:
The show started in 1963, and then was rebooted in 2005 and the showrunner was... Robert de Neiro? Idk all I know is he gives Pedro Pascal vibes. Like his name. His name is Robert.
There have been 15 Doctors so far. One is a lesbian and it is not Jodie Whittaker, it is actually the 12th doctor.
There's someone called the Master. I don't know what that means, or if it's some kind of BDSM thing, but he has intense sexual tension with the Doctor.
He's also emo and has bleached hair and is kinda babygirl. And is called Missy.
The Doctors all have intense trauma and the 15th Doctor kind of girlbossed it by leaving David Tennant intact when they binary-fissioned.
Donna is a person played by Catherine... Tate? Not Hepburn. And she knows less about Doctor Who than I do. And Donna is in a QPR with the David Doctors (there are two of them).
David Doctor loves Donna very much. And then he kills her. But doesn't kill her. And then they have dinner together with her husband and kid.
The original show had shitty effects. The new show does too, and everyone is happy about this.
Rose is someone the David Doctor is in love with and then she ends up with a human AU of him and he leaves and the fans are very divided and passionate about this.
The human AU is called Tentoo because y'all hate using W's. What the fuck is Tentoo. What is Nuwho. Why isn't it New and Two. Help me.
THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED THE TARDIS, IT IS BIGGER ON THE INSIDE, I HAVE HAD WEIRD DREAMS WHERE IT WAS A FUCKING AUTO-RICKSHAW WITH RIBBONS FOR SEATBELTS, AND IT IS BLUE AND NOT YELLOW BUT IT WAS YELLOW IN MY DREAM. Because of a Drarry fanfic that I misread.
The 15th doctor dances homoerotically with someone during the French Revolution.
The 9th doctor kinda vibes with like his head jiggling idk I've only seen one gif of him.
The 13th doctor keeps forgetting she's in a woman's body.
It is all very gay.
David Tennant's arms are too long.
The sexiest person is a head.
The Meep's pronouns are Meep. Meep is not friend. IF NOT FRIEND THEN WHY FRIEND SHAPED??????
A buttcheek skin talks or something yeah this is all I got.
have at it y'all @robinprinceofchaos @multidimensional-trashcan @wispedvellichor @queermarzipan thanks for the second hand brainrot
*sneaks away under the cover of night* i was never here

idk though because they managed to make thirteen's regeneration about david tennant and then they made fifteen's opening scene about david tennant and i just feel like this all would have worked way better if it was jodie whittaker in these specials (you can keep donna! i promise!) and they got rid of the "bi-generation" thing. like you don't even need to change very much else. it would be a way better conclusion to thirteen's arc. it's just fucking frustrating to see the only woman and the only person of color to ever play the doctor get fucking sidelined for david tennant, who has already had more than his share of screentime and character development during his ACTUAL run on the show

My tattoo of the solitract!
I got this tattoo for a few reasons. First of all my forever obsession with Doctor Who. I loved this show since I was 10 and in my life, I’ve made some really dear friends because of it. But also because this concept of the Solitract is SO COOL! A conscious universe that changes its shape at will because it wants to be loved.
The Solitract is in It Takes You Away (S11,E9) AKA a Jodie Whittaker episode! I wanted to have a tattoo specifically from a Jodie episode because her being the first woman Doctor is so important to me.
So yeah love you forever doccy who. Welcome The Solitract to my body! I have a Tardis tattoo on my back so now The Solitract can be in the same universe as The Doctor
Here’s my tardis that I got like 5 years ago

What your Doctor Who sapphic crush says about you (aside from the 60s companions because I haven't met most of them yet)
Liz Shaw: You like a woman who could technically kick your arse, but you'd rather they just info-dump about science to you.
Jo Grant: You like a kind, sweet person who cares deeply for their friends. You also probably REALLY like 70s fashion.
Sarah-Jane Smith: You like a woman with intelligence, charisma and a lot of guts. Either that, or 'SJA' may have been very formative for you.
Leela: You like a woman who could kick your arse in-theory but really you just want to be carried bridal-style.
Romana: You DO like a woman who could your arse. And smiles whilst doing it.
Tegan Jovanka: You are an old-school Whovian. You've been here a long time and probably will be for the rest of your life. You also love slightly grumpy lesbian-coded women with hilariously bad 80s fashion. You are a delight to be around. You also probably fancy Janet Fielding too.
Nyssa of Traken: Much the same as for Tegan, but you prefer quieter sapphic-coded women with curly 70s-style haircuts. And, yes, you probably fancy Sarah Sutton too.
Peri Brown: You... have very complicated emotions regarding what the BBC wardrobe department had Nicola wear.
Mel Smith: According to polls I've put out, you don't exist? Sorry about that; I personally think you are awesome and valid.
Ace McShane: You'd think this was the easy option for this question, but it's an excellent option. Like... it's Ace McShane; who DOESN'T love her?
Rose Tyler: You either wanted to be the Ninth or Tenth Doctor for reasons that you only discovered later on.
Martha Jones: You are valid and I'm sorry that this fandom was so mean to you for so long.
Donna Noble: You like someone who can make you laugh and that you can be best friends with.
Amy Pond: You like redheads and/or Scottish accents. You still haven't forgiven Moffat for the Manhattan episode.
River Song: You like MILFs who could kick your arse whilst calling you 'sweetie'. You have a complicated relationship to how the Doctor treated her.
Clara Oswald: Your type is a funny, witty person who... is also a fair bit messed up. I am a tad concerned for you.
Bill Potts: You are really cool. Just... super cool. I would like to be your ace bestie.
Yasmin Khan: Your type is a kind, sweet person who is loyal to their friends. They may have had some mental health issues they are currently working through, but -hey- who doesn't nowadays? No complaints here; you are awesome and I respect you a great deal.
Thirteen: You are every other sapphic person on Tumblr. Does that make you less valid? Of course not. You also probably fancy Jodie Whittaker. Maybe check out 'Adult Life Skills' to cope with your grief?

Imo, the fact PCap Doctor was a trans woman is why the Doctor regenerated into a character played by a woman. And, of course, PCap's egg was cracked by Gomez!Master/Missy who by actual chance regenerated into a woman but fully embraced the transition and loved their new form. Though one might consider World Enough and Time where Missy meets Simm!Master and teaches him how to apply eyeliner as Missy cracking her own egg from the future. PCap!Doctor has dysphoria which affects the subsequent regeneration.
In contrast, I think the Doctor's mind reverts to their basic form in regeneration which I actually do think is "man". The way I see it, Hartnell!Doctor was a trans man.
A diversion to clarify what gender is to Time Lords in my headcanons.
What is gender? Gender is a social construct that dictates what the dominant culture expects from you in terms of capabilities in certain fields, jobs you can/should do, your political standing, and what colors it is socially appropriate for you to wear. Sometimes, there are school that exist only to cater to members of the designated gender. As such, gender is most closely associated with Chapter in Time Lord society.
The Doctor was assigned to the Pryxonian Chapter. Chapter transition can only happen in a couple of ways -- by norms, one cannot transition from one Chapter to another, one can only leave the Chapter framework. By indication from a Faction Paradox nov, a Time Lord who becomes a renegade can officially remove themself from their position in their Chapter and their given name. Alternatively, there is indication that joining the Celestial Intervention Agency is the other way to transition beyond the so-called gender senary. You have a different expectation of clothing -- the black and white robes -- and a new job that appears to be able to be taken on regardless of Chapter assignment. Interestingly, being a Renegade and being a CIA agent are both groups known for going off-world.
The Doctor went renegade and has taken on a new name as well as his given name being struck from the official record. This could indicate that he has undergone a Semantectomy (the official name for the name removal from Faction Paradox). As such, it can be assessed that the Doctor is canonically "trans", though with a little semantic shuffling. A Semantectomy is the process of taking on a new name while disavowing onself from the chapter/gender one was originally assigned.
The Doctor has then taken on presentational traits indicative and inspired by human men. And while has had a number of refusals of the label "man" (see: Pertwee, McGann, Tennant, and of course Capaldi Doctors) is still able to and generally does move through human society under the auspices of male gender presentation. And then see how incredibly uncomfortable Jodie Whittaker's Doctor is every time that Doctor is referred to as a woman. The Doctor has an incredibly palpable sense of dysphoria, even coming down to out of character terminology where Jodie Whittaker rejects the instinct of fans to refer to her Doctor as a Time Lady, asserting that she is still a Time Lord.
I know this began with an expectation that I was talking about my understanding of Peter Capaldi's Doctor as a trans woman, which exists in this context and also with the perception of Gomez/PCap as a t4t transfem couple, but that serves as a part of the larger conversation about the Doctor's gender.
Is it any wonder that this show is what cracked my egg?

You're so right about the Millie Gibson stuff
I keep seeing RTD sycophants grrr at the tabloids but like, if he or Bad Wolf or the BBC made a fucking statement to support her or even just a five sentence statement confirming the character arc was finished and nothing else then they wouldn't be able to write the shit about her that they are. It is fucking suspect that they're hanging her out to dry. And so damn clumsy too, his little cult keeps saying filming in advance is soon smart but I'm not seeing it.
And it's always the working class actors being treated like shit. Ecclestone and Gibson, but Whittaker and Capaldi also had a lot of weirdness from the BBC especially once they were on the way out.
Honestly I think the situation with the tabloids and Millie is disgraceful. The fact an employer can let that happen and take no action seems like a violation of duty of care since it’s about the work. And this is a 19 year old woman you just let multiple papers smear in print and across the internet completely unchecked, it’s beyond my understanding how that’s ok.
What has been interesting is seeing all the people who have been attacking Chibs from the left for years now trying to defend RTDs actions, and acting like everything RTD does is no big deal everyone is over reacting but Chibs is the devil incarnate.
Whether it’s in the show, I’m sorry but I don’t know how dead naming a character because you want the audience to know their dead name because it means ‘doctor’ of which how many people would have even got the reference is somehow anywhere near as bad as 13 talking about the Kerblam automation system not being the problem the people using it, like the serial killing terrorist intent on mass murder she trying to stop is, they claim that’s way worse?
Or if it’s real life where BW and the BBC just let those horrible stories run rife in print and on the internet and even when asked for comment gave none just hung the 19 year old they hired out to dry and didn’t care if it ruined her career. Vs Chibs who when the papers came calling saying the crew said Jodie was making them work into the night etc. he was like it was night shoots show them the schedule everyone was rostered on and having a great time they love Jodie.
People say Chibs had no idea how to Show run, yet there wasn’t this level of horror stories or leaks in his tenure, fans may have wanted more but he had that place running like a well oiled machine and everyone who’s come out about working there has only had positive things to say about it Vs RTD who either can’t or doesn’t want to control leaks no matter how much harm they may inflict on the people he show be protecting most the ones the spotlight, and his stars of the show.
