Haven't watched wildlife finale but I'm really going through it r n. I said I wasn't gonna post anything wlsmp related but y'alls keep yapping abt it in the Pearl tag.
I'm really going through it this week.
So many personal shit is going on (both of my last surviving grandparents, one from mom and the other from dad's side are hospitalized). I also have to deal with finals and other missing requirements this week while my body is still recovering from fatigue.
I was extremely hesitant over whether or not I should watch the finale but most from what I've seen in the tags seem alright. Yeah, sure, all or most of Pearl's allies are dead. But it's not about seeing your allies dead but on whether or not you had closure before death.
Even if it's a little bit. Even if Gem and Pearl became allies for an extremely short while before Gem died. Idk, again I'm really going through it r n.
#I know most people enjoyed shinyduo divorce this season but now's a bad time for me#It was frustrating to watch#I could not take any of it seriously I couldn't take Gem or her lore seriously#I do not care about her beef over the 1v2#maybe on a different time but I can't handle that stuff r n#but I'm glad they were sorta allies in the end. Sorta.#I'm gonna be watching Pearl's episode later tonight while I have dinner#this might still be my least favorite season but at least I got to see Pearl reconcile with Scott#bread.txt#I had a week it is monday#I don't really care abt who won honestly and unless it was lizzie#but good for joel#c!gem neg#wlsmp neg#neg#gonna post more abt pearl later#my comfort cc is pearl and I some how find comfort in her oc from the life series of all places#I think it's the projection of healing and the catharsis of her character#makes sense why slsmp is my favorite season#mounders for life#me I'm the mounder

"why should I get invested in shows if they'll just get canceled" I was deeply invested in Heroes (2006) and it was not canceled, it just got really terrible. I also got really invested in the sandwich I had a few weeks ago despite it only lasting like 15 minutes. You must embrace the ephemeral. You must be willing to love things that may not love you back, that might betray you, or that may die an untimely death. As the great philosopher Mr. Mitchell Lee Hedberg said "I'm not gonna stop doing something because of what happens at the end."
#now granted he did die of a drug overdose but you know. one can take the good lessons#anyway. point being i understand being deeply frustrated with the state of the tv and film.#but also we can admit that for every gem canceled there's like three real duds too#idk if you want something that's guaranteed to have a bunch of seasons and you know the ending for go watch shows from the 70s#the number of adults on this site who lack the emotional wherewithal to watch an ongoing narrative is. yikes.#queue

Novice sewing pattern: Cut out shapes. Line up the little triangles on the edges. Stitch edges together. We've also included step-by-step assembly instructions with illustrations.

#knitting#no it's not a real pattern but I can't write one that makes sense because I have no freaking clue what any of that means#How do you make things that aren't basic rectangles#Why has every knitter I've asked for help just said 'patterns are easy; you just have to know how to read them' & then refused to teach me#Where do I even find a goat to sacrifice#How do I join the pattern cult#I am so confused#I've been knitting for almost a decade but I can only make scarves and potholders#I learned one (1) stitch by watching a YouTube video and none of my friends or family knit so I have no IRL resources#And nobody I meet seems to want to take the time to explain the rest to me#I taught myself to sew through trial and error but that doesn't really work with knitting because error is pretty much just... The kids. In our complex. Make me so crazy. So there’s like 16 townhome units. It’s a smallish enclosed loop. For this reason we have a ton of kids in the neighborhood who bike and play in the parking lot.
The PROBLEM. Is that they’re almost entirely unsupervised and do not follow any kind of safety rules. When cars come they do not pull out of the way and wait. They just keep riding erratically around.
One little unsupervised two year old just stood in the middle of the lane and held a hand up to stop my car. His parents came out after a few minutes and laughed and I’m like MY GUYS YOU JUST TAUGHT YOUR KID TO BE UNSAFE ASSUMING CARS WILL SEE HIM!!!
A different time a six or seven year old was gearing up to try to outrace my car instead of pulling aside. I flipped my car into neutral and revved until she zipped out of the lane in a panic. Like. Tiny one. You are infinitely crushable. You do not fuck around, you need to get out of the way because you are a tiny thing that not all cars will see.
Another four or five year old was sitting in a place yesterday where we could have and almost did back into him!! Like. Why are you sitting here with the cars and no supervision???? There’s grassy areas behind the units and as much as I loathe the kids staring in my sliding door I prefer it to them trying to get run over.
Today I got home and a maybe three year old girl was riding an electric bike around. When she saw my car she sped up like we were playing chicken until I honked. Then she sullenly got off and left the bike in the lane so I couldn’t go. I was gesturing for her to move it before she finally realized the problem and pulled it to the side. I finally got to proceed toward my spot, driving past her while she gave me a thumbs up.
I found another bike sat in my parking space. I am about to start popping tires.
#ramblies#the evil part of me wants to just take it#because this is not the first time they park bikes in my spot#but I would never actually#also to clarify my frustration is largely with the parents here for not setting good safety protocols or watching them

lowkey hate when popular so-bad-its-good movies come up on my movie blog because they always inspire a bunch of “does it count if i watched a Youtuber review it???” comments and its like. no watching a Youtuber talk about a movie is not the same as watching the movie. why not just try watching the movie. i promise movies like The Room and Fateful Findings are still fun to watch on their own even without the commentary of some guy on the internet. you could even invite your own friends to watch it with you and come up with your own jokes about it. you might even find that more fun than letting some guy online explain to you why the movie’s funny
#its frustrating to me cuz theres SO many funny moments in these movies that a lot of reviewers wont even bring up#like you dont have to have some guy online tell you whats funny about it you can just watch it……#theres a fight over at the morgue#moviepost

one of my biggest turnoffs from a discussion style podcast is when the hosts get off on a side topic outside their 'field' and it becomes apparently that they are extremely willfully ignorant abt something pretty basic and easy to google.
#especially frustrating for podcasts where the point is that theyre reading or watching thru a piece of media critically#like the work just dropped this allusion u dont understand and your only reaction is to go 'what the hell is the author talking about?'#no investigation no right to speak or whatever

i’m rewatching scott’s double life for the first time in two years. and his first episode is The aromantic experience. everyone around you is asking if you’ve found your soulmate and you point to your best friend and say “well yeah we’re soulmates now” and they say “HA! FAKE SOULMATES!!!” and then “well i just can’t WAIT until you find your REAL soulmate, i’m having SO MUCH FUN with mine!” it’s like when someone walks up to you and tells you that someday someone will change your mind. and you watch everyone around you get happy and comfortable and settle down with one other person in a tight-knit way that you don’t understand and they’re in shock and disbelief and they stare at you weird when you point to your best friend and tell people that you live together
#double life smp#scott smajor#widows alliance#life series#trafficblr#traffic series#moo analysis tag#scott tag#ramblings#i’ve got a lot more thoughts about scott & pearl and i kinda forgot how. justified scott’s frustration is in that first episode#his handling of it later not so much but pearl really does intentionally stop looking for her soulmate for a whole . like. episode.#thirty+ min video so hours of recording. like. Like#he’s alone watching everyone else get together taking random damage and getting weird looks#it makes more sense now#<- edit: ‘hours of recording’ = days in game/in character time that’s what i meant

People act like Shinji was weak and a loser but if I was a lonely 14-year-old boy with psychosexual frustrations and some gayboy showed up to be homoerotic and tell me he loved me I'd let him end the world rather than kill him
#And the thing is‚ I *have* been a lonely 14-year-old boy with psychosexual frustrations#I'm even pretty sure that's how old I was when I read & watched Evangelion#Give or take a year#Shinji#Shinji Ikari#Kawoshin#Neon Genesis Evangelion#Evangelion#NGE

I find it deeply depressing that every adult in Spider's life had children, yet he was never anyone's priority. every adult he could and most likely attempted to match in to. the adults he remembered as the closest things he had to parents since birth (Jake and Norm, even if they weren't acting as his parents, because Spider, genuinely, would not know better). down to his actual foster family (the McCoskers). essentially went out of their way to de-prioritize him.
like I'm not faulting them for having kids, for having a family. but Spider was their first priority. he didn't need to be adopted by any of them, per say, but he was their responsibility. he was their orphan, Jake especially, considering he was the chief of his people, but Norm as well, seeing as he's a prominent figure head of the clan/Hellsgate.
the McCoskers took him in, but over the years, as they had their own children, he was more and more neglected. he was now no longer his actually appointed guardians priority. and that only gets worse and worse as he ages until they become outright abusive (Nash does anyway, cause thats what I'm gonna call violently kidnapping his, throwing him in a room and locking him there, and trying to kill all of them, him included, when they run away. as abuse. and I'll get back to the whole "you have to turn yourself in to the RDA" x2 speech from Jake in a second). they also didn't really accept his culture. with their resentment towards the Na'vi brewing, Spider most definitely faced some heat for being more of the forest than of humans, in terms of culture.
3 times over, Spider came first and was put last. put last by parents who know damn well how much love, time, care, and attention a child needs. who should be able to see when a kid is being neglected. who dialed to advocate and protect him from neglect (instead of calling him a stray).
he was a child and they were his advocates. all three parties failed in their duty as advocates, to protect Spider. to ensure he always had a loving home that made him their priority. that fulfilled all his needs, not just the physical ones. but all put their own families first, and abandoned Spider to the scraps of their love, time, and affection.
imagine being Spider, an orphan who can't even mention his birth parents and is always treated like he is the physical rebirth of his father's sins by half the people around him. every adult in your life has kids and seems like they're such a good parent. you watch their kids being loved and tended to and having a steady home. they receive love and affection constantly. but your fosters pay less and less attention to you as they have babies. and now your a stray to the man you look up to so much. and the man who probably taught you how to put an exopack on has less and less time for you. no one has time for you. you're no one's child. no one's priority. just a stray. a nuisance. and you don't truly belong anywhere.
no one was putting him first. children need to be someone's priority. psychology. they need it.
and then the RDA returns. the McCoskers leave, Spider is expected to leave everything he has ever known, to join the very people he hates and has been trying so hard since he could understand what it meant, to prove that he wasn't like them. Jake, the man he once looked up to, was telling him to leave. sending him away. stripping him of the little amount of family he could somewhatly claim, that being his siblings.
once again, Jake is his chief, should be looking out for him. not even as a father, per say, but as his duty to Spider as his chief. a chief should never be sending away his most vulnerable ward, a child he should consider his own (as all of his clans children should be one with his own children), to the opposing enemy force.
this happens again when they're running away, Jake tells him ever more directly to hide in the forest alone until the RDA stops shooting at everything that moves and then turn himself in so he can his own children could run. once again, putting him last, instead of protecting all of them.
then for a year, Spider has no family. no one. the McCoskers are gone and no one has stepped up to bat for him. he's 15/16 and alone. his the big sibling to the Sully's. those kids are all he has, but they aren't really looking out for him. he's looking out for them. cause he's the oldest. that's just how it is. he is one with the clan. lives with them. does chores. watches out for his siblings, the whole nine. but Jake isn't doing his duty of watching out for his ward. he is once again giving and giving and giving, and not receiving.
and then he is taken, he is taken, and while Jake may not have had the means to go back for Spider, or been able to take the risk of going back for him, he abandons him without a thought for his safety, and puts his children first. it's the language and attitude be poses towards the situation that is wild to me. he has every right to be worried about his children, but he could not spare Spider an ounce of concern, even knowing the danger he was in, and is more concerned about him spilling details then anything else. Spider is, once again, not his first, second, or even third priority. he is a means to an end. a necessary loss.
people only care about Spider when there's nothing else they can put before him.
#to put a long story short#I am upset that every adult in Spider's life could have and care for their own kids#but could not look out for Spider#not even saying that they needed to be his parents#but they abandoned him. every last one of them. and no one did anything to protect him.#no one made him a priority#individually. no party is directly guilty. but the fact that they all watched it happen and didn't do a thing. didn't even notice.#makes them all guilty of one thing or another in my mind#Spider didn't deserve to have every adult in his life dodge responsibility over him#I always thought Norms kids were adopted and it genuinely made me hate him since I read the comics. that he adopted kids but not Spider.#I am still mad. but less so.#its still frustrating that. but I get that raising bio Na'vi kids snd a human child would be rough.#I feel the same way about him that I do Jake#Spider was. even if he wasn't their adopted child. their responsibility first. before they had children.#seeing as there positions of power/having a human body/etc. made him his advocates and caretakers.#and they failed him when they chose to have their own kids and that became a catalyst for Spider being all but abandoned by them#because even with foster guardians. Spider need people looking out for him to make sure he was actually being taken care#avatar 2#avatar the way of water#spider socorro#miles spider socorro#miles socorro#avatar#avatar spider#spider avatar#I didn't include Max in this cause we don't know enough about what he had going on for me to comment.

no possible grievance i could ever have towards a trans woman would ever be worth voicing in a public setting. no criticism is worth the harassment and slander it will incite, regardless of how gentle or how constructive or how minor, how trivial the actual wrongdoing was.
because trans women aren't given the benefit of the doubt. they aren't given grace and they aren't viewed in good faith. any faux pas will be interpreted in the worst possible light and exaggerated beyond all reason. this is by design, because the goal of the wider internet isn't to see a trans woman improve as a person. the goal is to see her dead.
if i don't have a private space to express my issues with someone, i'm simply not going to. because no flaw or mistake should cost someone their safety.

Star Trek shows tend to give an interestingly consistent narrative role to ensign characters (or characters who aren’t ensigns, but are otherwise notably the lowest ranked/youngest of the cast). The Ensign generally represents youth and innocence in both its positive and negative aspects – simultaneously representing the perfect model Starfleet officer and the dangers of overconfident inexperience. There will be stories where The Ensign’s youth and optimism are the emotional core of the crew that actively saves the day, and there will be stories where The Ensign’s inexperience result in disastrous consequences.
The characters that fit most into this category are Chekov in TOS, Wesley in TNG, Nog in later seasons of DS9, Harry in Voyager, Tilly in early seasons of Discovery, Adira in later seasons of Discovery, and Uhura in SNW. It’s a bit different in Lower Decks and Prodigy since almost all the major characters in those shows are equally low-ranked/inexperienced, but most of those characters do share plenty of similarities with the typical Ensign archetype.
An important thing to note, though, is that this archetype implies the beginning of a character arc – generally a coming-of-age style one where we see The Ensign gain experience and perspective, losing both the positives and the negatives of their youthful bright-eyed inexperience. Nog’s war trauma arc is one example of this. Wesley gets a more classic coming of age arc. Tilly, Adira, and Uhura all get arcs about learning to trust in their own abilities, finding their place in the world, etc. And generally speaking, if their shows aren’t cancelled prematurely, these characters do gain rank or get promoted to new positions. It’s sort of an obvious part of what this character arc entails. Every single one of the characters I just mentioned gains rank onscreen at least once. Even Chekov, who comes from TOS where nothing really changes episode to episode, gets to be shown over the course of the movies gaining rank and experience.
Which all makes Harry’s perpetual ensign status on Voyager even weirder. I’ve seen people defend the decision to never let Harry gain rank (or any other real promotion in responsibilities/duties) by referring to the Ensign archetype. Star Trek shows always have an Ensign, so supposedly Harry needed to keep being The Ensign forever. But this argument doesn’t make much sense when you consider what the typical Ensign arc entails for basically everyone except Harry. If Harry followed the typical Star Trek Ensign character arc, he would have gained rank and responsibilities over the course of the show. It would be very inaccurate to say that Harry has no character arc over the course of Voyager – we see him become more experienced and hardened by the events of the show. But despite all of this, he gets an episode like Nightingale in season 7. He is never allowed to grow beyond the original parameters of The Ensign archetype.
#star trek#lane posts#i didn’t consider hoshi and travis here because i'm still watching enterprise#also to be clear this isn’t intended as an anti-voyager post#voyager is probably my favorite star trek show and i love harry a lot#i just find the way his arc differs from the other ensign’s arcs pretty frustrating

something interesting: there were 32 total zombie player kills this session of wild life. 26 of them were by gem, joel, scar and grian (who got the most zombie kills with 12). everyone else who killed a zombie player did it just one time. obviously the (extended) family had a few ulterior motives in killing mumbo and skizz (so gem could talk to them, mostly, but also for grian to enact his own plans and revenge after mumbo killed grian) but i think its so funny that literally 80% of the kills were theirs. a dangerous team indeed...
#wild life spoilers#i havent actually watched cleo's pov yet but from all others i can tell how frustrated they must have been by the family#it was so fun seeing grian and joel kill mumbo and skizz just so gem could talk to them privately though#genuinely my fav pov from this episode is probably gem's. alongside martyn's#wild life smp#geminitay#smallishbeans#grian#goodtimeswithscar#mumbo jumbo#skizzleman#trafficblr#zombiecleo#wild life

also i think if roleswap laios and canon laios met theyd immediately start fighting.
#canon laios would blurt out 'why do you look like our dad' and fisticuffs ensue.#shuro........ is a little more complicated#if canon shuro doesnt think too hard about it and just treats the other him like a stranger then theres no problem#on the other hand i imagine he holds himself to high standards and if he sees his other self doing things he considers improper or uncouth.#i imagine hed only speak up if he saw it happen A Lot like hed pull him aside like hey... what the fuck#thered be a bit of 'holy shit i woulda turned out like THAT??' on both sides#roleswap shuro would often get frustrated but i think hed understand that like. thats how the culture is like he lived it too#but i think similarly hed watch laios steamroll og shuro and eventually be like. DUDE. just say something#shorter fuse lmao. anyways still turning this AU over in my head#how much more forward can shuro be before hes unbelievably out of character...#and what if they switched universes!!!!#if laios switched. it would be immediately obvious something is up in the og universe but it may be chalked up to like#a weird mood..... though maybe the party starts to wonder 'hey... is it not possible this is a shapeshifter' 😭#but og laios in the roleswap universe...#tbh havent thought too hard on what the party dynamics in that universe might be like assuming all else is the same save for the roleswap#i imagine chilchuck would still get on alright as long as hes being paid upfront and laios is still attentive/ recognises his abilities#and limitations also. marcille................................... hmm#she might treat him more formally and be less close.... may perceive him as more threatening at first meeting#(in terms of like. 'taking falin away' i mean if that makes sense)#but well. u kno how in canon laios Does notice a lot of things about his companions and has a very pragmatic view that surprises them#and they dont tend to notice until he says it aloud because its often overlooked cos of his. everything else.#well. id imagine roleswap laios still notices things but simply would not say it aloud.#the party would also be like .. dude... did he hit his head#if SHURO swapped...................... well it depends when exactly it happened#i imagine it could be a bigger issue with the retainers#im losing steam cos my lower back hurt so bad adgfsdfg i cant get a good position on this chair#but for shuro himself i imagine it would be nightmarish lmao.#roleswap (henceforth RS) shuro would wake up as an adult with the retainers like. ??? was that all a dream?? did i never make it out#meanwhile og shuro ending up god knows where..........#if he ended up with the retainers again he might not immediately realise somethings amiss and try to act normally
