Investing in the Power of Youth for Countering and Addressing Hate Speech.

High-level event to mark the 3rd International Day for Countering Hate Speech highlighting the importance of investing in the power and voice of youth to counter hate speech.

This year will mark the 3rd International Day for Countering Hate Speech and five years since the launch of the UN Strategy and Plan of Action. To mark the International Day, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations and the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide are organizing a High-level Event that would focus on the importance of engaging with youth in efforts to counter and address hate speech.

The Event would also focus on the importance of investing in the power and voice of youth to counter hate speech. Indeed, engaging with youth is a key component of the UN Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech which stresses the role of education and that in the digital age, the UN should support a new generation of digital citizens, empowered to recognize, reject, and stand up to hate speech.

Objectives:

Commemorating the 3rd Anniversary of the International Day on Countering Hate Speech, to bring further attention to the importance of tackling hate speech, in all its forms and manifestations.

Highlighting the important role of youth in countering and addressing hate speech

Hearing from youth voices on their experience, concerns, and recommendations on what more needs to be done to tackling hate speech.

Opening Segment:

President of the General Assembly; Secretary General of the United Nations; Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations; United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide.

It had been almost 3 weeks since Aadarsh's arrival. Many things changed. The working habit of the people, their liabilities and work time. But what went unnoticed was Kriti's change in emotions for Aadarsh.

Yes, she didn't like him at all, she had many reasons to not like him. But she couldn't deny her growing feelings for him.

His lingering glances, subtle touches, and sweet hums made her heart flutter. Though she hated his attention towards her but she couldn't help but internally smile when his eyes were always on her. But Kriti was determined she won't show any of this to him. Kriti also acknowledged his feelings towards her. He never looked at someone the way he looked at her. But then the question was, if he really liked her why did he hate her so much ?

Both of them were invited to the party organised by the Branch head of the company. Aadarsh didn't like parties but went only because of Kriti.

Kriti spent almost 3 hours in choosing the perfect outfit. The one which flattered her curves the most, which made her look the most elegant in the room. Dressing up, she went out of her house and drove to the venue.

Every eye was on her. Everyone was moving around her, trying to catch a glimpse and trying to make a contact. Getting a glass of drink from the bar counter, she sat in the seat and looked around. Trying to find that similar face, she finally got to see him. In a beautifully pleated Royal blue pant, white shirt, the top 2 buttons opened and Royal blue blazer, he stood there, looking like a prince in the midst of every other average looking person. How majestic he looked, how amazingly he talked with the co-workers with a shiny whiskey glass in hand, his lips looking so beautiful after taking a sip, glistening. She felt like losing herself in him.

Snapping out of her thoughts, she regained her senses and started looking elsewhere before getting caught.

Aadarsh, on the other side, looked everywhere in search of Kriti. Going to the other side of the room, he saw the similar outline. Moving a bit closer, he saw her. In a black bodycon gown, with a slit from the left thigh. Her melanin skin glowed in the darkness, making her look divine. Her curves on her waist added to the perfection. The Branch manager clinked the champagne glass to gain everyone's attention. And then he declared the reason of the party and congratulated everyone for the great success in the company. By that time, both of them, Kriti and Aadarsh were standing parallely but a bit away from each other. Both felt something. Some kind of a click inside. Or and an urge, to be precise.

And they looked at each other. Their orbs stared at each other, with intensity, no one in any mood to break the eye contact. Not worrying if someone's looking at the tassle between two. They hated each other, right? They couldn't stand each other, whenever they talked with each other, it formed an argument. Both wished other one was out of their life and surroundings. But why was there a thin invisible string tugging them towards each other ? Why did they silently cared about each other ? Why did they feel that the nature, the universe, the cosmic powers want them to be together ?

The Branch manager's speech ended and everyone clapped. That's when they came back to reality. Looking away, they clapped in sync.

Kriti didn't stay there for long. But she also wanted to meet him, talk with him and maybe, just sit in silence with him. Her hate didn't really go away, but it was pressed down with the new kind of emotion for him.

Bidding others goodbye, she walked to the parking lot, to her car. And that's when her phone vibrated in her clasp.

"We've got some pending work to do, I'm leaving too. To my house. Don't be late."

Sending her his address, he put his phone in his pocket and went to others to bid them goodbye.

On the other side, Kriti was staring at the phone screen for a minute, rereading the text multiple times. She manifested meeting him tonight, personally and that's actually happening.

Oh she's more than ready for him.

Will the two souls come together or fall apart ? Will they live happily ever after or will some horrendous tragedy fall on their lives, destroying everything ?

Metal is Eggman's former servant; in fact, she used to be one of his most loyal ones. One day, a passing comment from Amy during one of their fights caused neo to do some introspection, resulting first in the realization that she is transfem. Amy's influence didn't stop there, though; Metal initially asked her out in order to one-up Sonic, but it ended up genuinely falling for her in doing so. After a while of sneaking around behind Eggman and Amy's friends' backs, Amy told Metal that they couldn't be together if Metal was going to hurt people. Forced to choose between neos girlfriend and her father, it realized how much better Amy had treated her in the time they'd been together than Eggman ever had. Neo’d been taught all her life that if it didn't do a good job, it didn't deserve to be repaired or respected at all. Amy helped her to realize that neo had value beyond its usefulness, and beyond her ability to counter Sonic. With that in mind, Metal ended up defecting to Amy's side. For the next few years that Eggman was active, she would remain neutral in the conflicts, but with Sage in charge after Eggman's retirement, Metal frequently joins in and fights alongside Amy and their daughter.

Make no mistake—although Metal does not attack any of Amy's friends anymore, neo still hates them with a passion, especially Sonic. Even though Amy helped her to realize that it is more than how neo compares to Sonic, she will forever seek to be better than Sonic and wish for his destruction. Anytime he acts particularly annoying, she even automatically moves to threaten him, but it still stops neoself from hurting him for Amy's sake.

Metal has its ways of releasing pent up energy, and the main one is through neos job as a demolition worker. She gets to blow things up and take down entire buildings without its loathsome copy trying to stop her! It’s quite cathartic. Plus, she gets to stick it to Eggman yet again by being OSHA certified, despite neos status as a killer robot.

A little while after Amy and Metal revealed their relationship to Amy's friends and Metal officially left Eggman, Tails offered to give Metal some way of speaking, whether it be an internal voice box or an external text-to-speech device. However, Metal declined, partially because she didn't trust Tails and partially because it’s decided that her lack of a voice is part of neo. It has been able to speak before, during her time as Neo Metal, but in her search for neos own identity, it’s found that it prefers communicating through sign language and the occasional beeps.

X Corp., the parent company of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, filed a lawsuit in San Francisco federal court Monday against a nonprofit organization that monitors hate speech and disinformation, following through on a threat that had made headlines hours earlier.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, accuses the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) of orchestrating a "scare campaign to drive away advertisers from the X platform" by publishing research reports claiming that the social media service failed to take action against hateful posts. The service is owned by the technology mogul Elon Musk.

In the filing, lawyers for X. Corp alleged that the CCDH carried out "a series of unlawful acts designed to improperly gain access to protected X Corp. data, needed by CCDH so that it could cherry-pick from the hundreds of millions of posts made each day on X and falsely claim it had statistical support showing the platform is overwhelmed with harmful content."

The complaint specifically accuses the nonprofit group of breach of contract, violating federal computer fraud law, intentional interference with contractual relations and inducing breach of contract. The company's lawyers made a demand for a jury trial.

The lawsuit was filed just hours after the CCDH revealed that Musk's lawyer, Alex Spiro, had sent the organization a letter on July 20 saying X Corp. was investigating whether the CCDH's "false and misleading claims about Twitter" were actionable under federal law.

In a statement to NBC News, CCDH founder and chief executive Imran Ahmed took direct aim at Musk, arguing that the Tesla and SpaceX tycoon's "latest legal threat is straight out of the authoritarian playbook — he is now showing he will stop at nothing to silence anyone who criticizes him for his own decisions and actions."

"The Center for Countering Digital Hate’s research shows that hate and disinformation is spreading like wildfire on the platform under Musk's ownership and this lawsuit is a direct attempt to silence those efforts," Ahmed added in part. "Musk is trying to 'shoot the messenger' who highlights the toxic content on his platform rather than deal with the toxic environment he's created.

Musk, who has been criticized for posting conspiratorial or inflammatory content on his own account, has said he is acting in the interest of "free speech." He has said he wants to transform Twitter into a "digital town square."

Musk has also claimed that hate speech on the platform was shrinking. In a tweet on Nov. 23, Musk wrote that “hate speech impressions” were down by one-third and posted a graph — apparently drawn from internal data — showing a downward trend.

You guys are sweet to try and defend Mama, thank you, always. Because at the end of the day, the reason I took the Mama Bear moniker is because of the forbidden ship. There were antis coming in and harassing people, there were internal struggles and it was a mess. Mama was ready to go to mattresses for a ship I had just boarded.

People are always gonna shit on fandom, even from the inside. Unfortunately, it’s the definition of free speech - the counter argument is we can block them, report them, and wait for results. Until then, remember to curate your own safe space, block tags, block keywords, etc.

Hater Comments- Alex Bensky's Anti-Arab Racism

Every fandom has its share of racists, bigots, or prejudiced people. The irony is that sports are very diverse. When it comes to international competition athletes are from various nations and have different religious backgrounds. Alex Bensky appears to be vexed that Israel's racism was mentioned in a post about Dana Shemesh. She is Israel's first IFBB pro. That is a wonderful accomplishment, but you cannot ignore that the country has engaged in human rights abuse. Alex Bensky Anti-Arab racism went on full display.

This is a gratuitous and as it happens untrue insertion in what should be a mini-biography of a sports figure. The racist charge is just silly, even absurd–half the Israeli Jewish population is descended from Jews who fled Arab lands after 1948 and are physically no different from Arabs.

And given the insistence of Palestinian Arabs, whose history as a distinct people dates back to the early 1960s, that in their future state no Jew will be allowed to live, it’s a little curious that somehow it’s Israel that is “ethno-religious” and the people who believe in ethnic cleansing (and in Hamas’ case genocide) label the other side in such terms.

As the Abraham Accords have shown, not only is the Israel-Palestinian Arab conflict not key to peace in the Middle East, but also that if Israel disappeared tomorrow there would be no shortage of continued Middle East conflict….look at Syria, for example. Other Arabs are finally getting tired of sheer rejectionism dating back nearly a century, never with even a counter offer.

Nowhere did I accuse Dana of racism or hate of the Arab peoples. She did serve in the IDF, but she had no influence over government policy or the wars of aggression waged by her state. Alex here clearly distorts history and international affairs. Israel during the Six-Day War took the West Bank, Gaza Strip, the Golan Heights, and the Sinai peninsula. Sinai was only given back with the Camp David Accords. Israel refuses to go back to the 1967 borders. It invaded Lebanon in 1978 and 1982. It occupied the country between 1985 to 2000. When the state came into existence it forced Palestinians off their land creating a series of refugee camps in neighboring Arab states. The PLO became a resistance organization attempting to stop colonization. The Arab-Israeli War, the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War, and the invasions of Lebanon were examples of the desire for Israeli expansion. Currently, there are plans to make more settlements in the West Bank. Bensky ignores this history and the plight of the Palestinians. He ignores the fact that Druze Arabs that live in the country face discrimination and that anti-black racism is also policy. The mistreatment of the Ethiopian and Eritrean population has been well documented. There were attempts to prevent Ethiopian Jews from getting citizenship.

Another issues also emerges in this discussion. Treating Jews as a monolith is antisemitic. The notion that every single Jewish person hates Arabs is false. A portion of Israeli citizens have left the country to avoid military service. There are Jews who object to Zionism, because they do not believe it adheres to their religion. Peace activists and liberals want to see an end to violence. Realizing that Israel has become an ethno-religious racist apartheid state does not make a person anti-Jewish. Criticism of Israel is not antisemitic. To make such an assertion is an attempt to stifle free speech and dissent. Alex Bensky knows this. Mentioning Hamas is a deflection, because the group will never be able to defeat Israel. The fact is Israel has engaged in ethnic cleansing of certain areas to make way for farmers.

This is why the boycott is a threat. The EU is a major market for the country. The Abraham Accords do not address the core issue. There is a country that wants to be an ethno-state in which Jews have more rights and privileges than everyone else. The exclusivity does not stop there. Ashkenazim Jews want to be the group with the most rights in Israel. There is a racial hierarchy being covered by religion. Bensky does not even mention that the United Nations played a role in the disorder in 1947. The Arabs in the region have a history dating back to the ancient world. Most Jews living there at present cannot trace their history back to 1200 B.C.E. I would rather celebrate Dana Shemesh, than celebrate her country.

— You've already noticed that my voice is hoarse and lower, even Ariana's friends keep imitating it, making fun of me, and I get a lot of muscle spasms. You even helped me that day, Ross. - I smile as I remember and he takes my hand, which was on the table, and squeezes it a little.

These problems happened because my mother had a syndrome, several rare symptoms, in the fifth month of pregnancy. My delivery had to be brought forward by an emergency c-section, and I was born dead. - They widened their eyes.

I had several treatments to be able to walk, because I couldn't stand up. I've done years of speech therapy and this is the highest I can speak and my voice is really hoarse. And I hate my voice, because people always say: “Wow, are you sick? Is it the flu?”, and I'm ashamed to answer.

Many days you notice that I'm sad, but you cheer me up. And I love you for that. The only smiles I have are with the birds, with my mother and with you.

— But what do you feel, honey?

— The most serious symptoms, unfortunately… It affects the neurotransmitters in the brain of every person who has depression, so the symptoms are well known. Persistent sadness, loss of interest, changes in sleep, appetite, low energy, low self-esteem. And I've always had terrible self-esteem and I'm very fearful. Metal Sonic

Metal is Eggman's former servant; in fact, she used to be one of his most loyal ones. One day, a passing comment from Amy during one of their fights caused her to do some introspection, resulting first in the realization that she is transfem. Amy's influence didn't stop there, though; Metal initially asked her out in order to one-up Sonic, but it ended up genuinely falling for her in doing so. After a while of sneaking around behind Eggman and Amy's friends' backs, Amy told Metal that they couldn't be together if Metal was going to hurt people. Forced to choose between her girlfriend and her father, it realized how much better Amy had treated her in the time they'd been together than Eggman ever had. She'd been taught all her life that if it didn't do a good job, it didn't deserve to be repaired or respected at all. Amy helped her to realize that it had value beyond its usefulness, and beyond her ability to counter Sonic. With that in mind, Metal ended up defecting to Amy's side. For the next few years that Eggman was active, she would remain neutral in the conflicts, but with Sage in charge after Eggman's retirement, Metal frequently joins in and fights alongside Amy and their daughter.

Make no mistake—although Metal does not attack any of Amy's friends anymore, she still hates them with a passion, especially Sonic. Even though Amy helped her to realize that it is more than how it compares to sonic, she will forever seek to be better than Sonic and wish for his destruction. Anytime he acts particularly annoying, she even automatically moves to threaten him, but it still stops itself from hurting him for Amy's sake.

Metal has its ways of releasing pent up energy, and the main one is through its job as a demolition worker. She gets to blow things up and take down entire buildings without her loathsome copy trying to stop her! It’s quite cathartic. Plus, she gets to stick it to Eggman yet again by being OSHA certified, despite her status as a killer robot.

A little while after Amy and Metal revealed their relationship to Amy's friends and Metal officially left Eggman, Tails offered to give Metal some way of speaking, whether it be an internal voice box or an external text-to-speech device. However, Metal declined, partially because she didn't trust Tails and partially because her lack of a voice is part of her. It would feel unnatural for it to talk; it prefers communicating through sign language and the occasional beeps.

Hatred starts with words: words that discriminate, divide and dehumanize; words that undermine democracy, spread ignorance, instil fear, and can even precede the worst of crimes. When these words go unchecked – when gender-based, racist, antisemitic and xenophobic hate speech is allowed to proliferate – they pose an existential threat to human rights, democracy and peace.In recent years, hate speech and online falsehoods have gained ground with the expansion of social media. Last year, a study conducted in 16 countries reported that 67% of Internet users had encountered online hate speech. Some 85% of respondents expressed concern about the impact and influence of disinformation on their fellow citizens. However, we are not powerless in the face of disinformation and hate speech. We have education – to fight hatred at its roots, develop critical thinking, and build the defences of peace in the minds of women and men, in line with UNESCO’s Constitution. This year, the International Day of Education on 24 January is dedicated to the crucial role of teaching and learning in promoting lasting peace – and the ways in which education must adapt in order to address current global challenges.The UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development adopted by our 194 Member States in November 2023, is a major milestone in this regard. This global standard-setting instrument, the only one of its kind, is a roadmap for re-thinking and re-designing education systems to preparelearners to collectively shape more just, sustainable, healthy and peaceful futures for all. The White House condemned tech billionaire Elon Musk for boosting antisemitic posts on his social media platform, X, calling it an “unacceptable” act that endangers Jewish communities.

“We condemn this abhorrent promotion of Antisemitic and racist hate in the strongest terms, which runs against our core values as Americans,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement.

The White House said Musk’s posts were especially harmful, given the spike in antisemitic incidents following Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre of 1,200 Israelis and Israel’s ensuing invasion of the Gaza Strip.

Americans have “an obligation to speak out against anyone who attacks the dignity of their fellow Americans and compromises the safety of our communities,” Bates added.

The rebuke cames in response to a string of derogatory online comments by Musk, including one agreeing with a post that accused the Jewish community of pushing “dialectical hatred” of White people. “You have said the actual truth,” Musk replied to the user on the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Musk, the chief executive officer of Tesla Inc. and the world’s richest person with a net worth of around $218 billion, according to Bloomberg estimates, has repeatedly come under fire for promoting content attacking Jewish people at a time of rising antisemitism.

“It is unacceptable to repeat the hideous lie behind the most fatal act of Antisemitism in American history at any time, let alone one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” Bates added.

On top of the reprimand from the White House, Musk drew backlash from the European Commission and International Business Machines Corp., which both announced they would no longer advertise on X. Musk, a self-described free speech advocate, also attacked the Anti-Defamation League, which has warned about an increase in extremist content and harassment since he acquired the platform.

Musk, who serves as X’s chairman, has accused the civil-rights group of being responsible for keeping ad sales down.

“I am deeply offended by ADL’s messaging and any other groups who push de facto anti-white racism or anti-Asian racism or racism of any kind,” he wrote.

The Biden administration earlier this year established a strategy to counter antisemitism in the US, as reports of hate-fueled attacks and harassment have increased over the past half decade.
