Acknowledge the Connection
Do you ever see wild animals? Deep Connection to Nature I’ve had the opportunity to see wild animals on a fairly regular basis. Deer are the most common visitors where I live. They often roam gracefully near the edge of the woods or through open fields, and I’ve had moments where I could get surprisingly close without startling them. There’s a quiet understanding in those encounters—I’m not a…

Blurring the Lines
Embracing the Unity of Nature and the ArtificialEverything that is considered unnatural or artificial is, in fact, part of nature’s expression. This idea, at first glance, might seem contradictory. How can something artificial, a creation of human ingenuity, be natural? But this is where we need to expand our understanding of what nature encompasses.Nature, in its broadest definition, includes…

An Intellectual Journey through Evolution and Spirituality
Tumblr media
Piet D. Botha's work, titled "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: Evolution and the Noosphere," extensively explores the intricate relationship among science, evolution, and spirituality. This thoroughly researched piece offers readers an enlightening journey through these challenging themes and introduces a fresh perspective on their potential harmonious coexistence.
Piet D. Botha, as an author, showcases a profound comprehension of the topics he addresses, referencing notable figures like Charles Darwin, Teilhard de Chardin, and Stephen Hawking. This extensive array of sources not only reinforces his assertions but also furnishes readers with a robust groundwork for delving into the intricacies of these profound subjects.
The book is meticulously divided into chapters that explore different aspects of spirituality, evolution, and the noosphere. It begins by outlining the progression of evolutionary theory throughout history, giving a succinct and understandable synopsis of important ideas. It is admirable how Botha can translate difficult scientific concepts into understandable words.
This book's examination of the peaceful coexistence of evolution and faith is one of its best features. Botha makes a strong case for the possibility that spirituality and science may coexist and perhaps strengthen one another. He invites readers to adopt an outlook that values mutual enrichment between religion and scientific knowledge, promoting harmony rather than conflict. With this method, conventional dichotomies are questioned, and readers are encouraged to think about how these two worldviews may coexist peacefully.
The author's writing often reflects an academic tone, which is suitable for readers with a keen interest in the topics discussed. However, this academic style might pose a challenge for a broader audience seeking a more accessible narrative. Despite this, Botha's arguments are well-researched and meticulously documented, providing a sturdy foundation for his thesis.
Still, there are some issues with the book. It might occasionally be difficult for readers to follow the author's argument consistently due to the lack of structural coherence. An improved organization of content could enhance the overall reading experience.
In conclusion, the book "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: Evolution and the Noosphere" invites readers to delve deeply into intricate issues pertaining to faith, science, and evolution. It offers a valuable opportunity to reconsider how we perceive the intersections of these subjects. While it has its strengths, such as intriguing perspectives and rich references, it is hindered by structural incoherence and editing issues. However, for those willing to delve into these challenging themes, the book provides an intellectually rewarding experience.
I would rate this book 4/5 for its invaluable insights and the author's audacious attempt to harmonize seemingly contrasting worldviews, despite deductions for structural and editing issues that impact the overall reading experience.

A friend of mine wants to make a fic where Glinda has a child with Elphie (after Elphaba's so so so sad death, act II, who knows knows) with a Grimmerie spell. So far, so good, everything normal.
But she started wondering about the types of spells that would have in the Grimmerie, and I got to thinking. I keep thinking.
Honestly, there isn't a single time travel spell inside The Grimmerie?
Like, it's The Grimmerie, y'know? Also known as the Ancient Book of Thaumaturgy and Enchantments? I mean, it's a tome containing a collection of spells written in an Ozian language that has been lost to time, and only those with magical talent are able to read the Grimmerie.
THIS BOOK'S EXTREMELY FUCKING POWERFUL.
There must be so many spells in there that they go as far as the eye can't reach.
And you're telling me there isn't a SINGLE ONE time travel spell?
I don't know if there's one, but I need a fic where Galinda goes back in time, or she has to warn her past self about the terrible things that will happen if she doesn't get on that damn broom with Elphaba, or she herself goes back in time and tries to fix things from the point in the timeline where she ended up.
I just NEED a fanfic that deals with this plot.

david lynch signing the polanski petition will always be a black mark on his legacy, the same way its coloured my views of scorsese, or xavier dolan or alfonso cuarón, and so on and on and on. it feels endless and it speaks to a deep stupidity and a deeper misogyny present in hollywood. if you believe people like natalie portman (who also signed it) the petition was being passed around and people felt obligated or casual about signing what their peers were asking them to. its up to you as an individual to decide if you agree with this version of events. i think its a version of the story that omits some responsibility from the signees and i dont totally agree with it.
an anon coming into my inbox to act morally superior and tell me about the polanski petition, only now when im making posts about how sad it is that david lynch died from a very painful disease, but not sending anything any of the times ive posted about twin peaks or the elephant man or blue velvet, doesnt feel like its coming from a place of good faith. you wait until hes dead to send me an anonymous message about it?

it's about ted's whole thing is feeling out of control--from his Tragic Backstory to his divorce with michelle to the situation in s1 with rebecca and the team--and like. getting to have that control and knowing you're making the right choices, that you're making your partner feel good, being able to take care of them... PLUS like. come ON this man's whole personality screams it to me like yeah he's gentle and soft but he can also be firm and kind of a bitch (affectionate) you KNOW that like eighty percent of the time he says some shit that's so wildly stupid/folksy/american/whatever that the other person is just completely thrown he is FUCKING with them and like. HE COULD DO IT. HE'D BE SO GOOD AT IT
meanwhile trent is always keeping this iron grip on his control and trying to present himself a certain way, trying to be a Proper Man™️, snarky and powerful and intimidating and in control, trying to perform in a straight marriage he didn't belong in, trying to live up to certain expectations and perform a certain way, so like.... letting go? letting go and actually like. trusting and relying on another person, letting himself be vulnerable, letting himself stop worrying about performing Masculinity and just letting his partner take care of him? i just think!!!!!!! YES
that's not to say they would Never Switch--trent might have fun using that Sharp Mean Reporter Persona to actually make someone feel good and it's not like ted couldn't use the chance to just let go sometimes--but i feel like ted is such a pleaser and also like. so often having his life changed by other people around him without consideration that being in control and then being rewarded for it like that would be good for him, and trent is so used to performing all the time and holding himself tightly that letting go and making himself be vulnerable and being rewarded for it like that would be good for him. you know? you know? im going insane. idk how well worded this even is. this literally doesn't matter. begins chewing on my ceiling fan

"Day and Night": Pixar's Mesmerizing Blend of 2D and 3D Animation Shaina Tranquilino December 29, 2023 Pixar's "Day and Night" is a unique and captivating short film that effortlessly blends traditional 2D animation with innovative 3D animation techniques. Released in 2010, this six-minute masterpiece takes the audience on a mesmerizing journey through contrasting perspectives of day and night. Directed by Teddy Newton, known for his work as a storyboard artist on several Pixar films, "Day and Night" tells the story of two characters named Day and Night who meet unexpectedly while going about their daily routines. However, what sets this film apart from others is that these characters are not animated in the usual way. Instead, they are portrayed as transparent figures filled with vibrant landscapes representing either day or night. The central theme of the film revolves around the juxtaposition between opposites: light and dark, warmth and coldness, noise and silence. The contrast is visually striking as viewers witness daylight scenes projected onto the character Day's figure while nighttime scenes are cast upon Night's silhouette. This clever design creates an immersive experience, allowing us to observe the world through each character's perspective simultaneously. As Day and Night encounter various situations throughout the film, they begin to realize that their differences can coexist harmoniously. They learn to appreciate one another's unique qualities rather than fearing or resenting them. Through this message of acceptance and understanding, Pixar manages to convey a profound lesson about embracing diversity. What truly makes "Day and Night" exceptional is its ability to tell a story without using any dialogue. The narrative unfolds solely through visual storytelling accompanied by an enchanting musical score composed by Michael Giacchino. From breathtaking sunrise sequences to dazzling fireworks displays at night, every frame is meticulously crafted to evoke emotions within the audience. Moreover, "Day and Night" showcases Pixar's technical brilliance by seamlessly blending hand-drawn animations with computer-generated imagery (CGI). This combination breathes life into the characters while maintaining a distinct artistic style reminiscent of classic hand-drawn animation. The result is a visually stunning film that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved in animated storytelling. With its innovative approach, "Day and Night" earned critical acclaim and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It stands as a testament to Pixar's commitment to pushing creative boundaries while delivering heartfelt stories that resonate with audiences of all ages. Pixar's "Day and Night" is a remarkable short film that captivates viewers through its blend of traditional and 3D animation techniques. Through stunning visuals, absence of dialogue, and a powerful message of acceptance, it takes us on a journey where opposites collide and coexist harmoniously. This six-minute masterpiece demonstrates Pixar's ability to push artistic boundaries while delivering emotionally resonant narratives.
