Had some ideas for Upstairs Downstairs Hazbin Hotel expys. Still very much in a WIP stage, but check it out if you're interested! (also I only ended up seeing like 6-ish? episodes of it, but I did like what I saw, and I read a few Wikipedia summaries too!)
It's long and very more than likely 50/50 ooc, so there's a read more
This one covers expys of Alfred and Sarah, but hopefully other characters are to follow!
Alfred-
Potential Death name: Soleil, if renamed by the French speaking Sarah expy, with her telling him that for all the darkness there can still be light and salvation. He would likely initially be resistant to taking on a death name as he views it as lying, but she points out that their former employees forced him to take up the name that to their eyes best suited his role, and that this was closer to authenticity than that was.
Species: Sinner Demon
Gender & Pronouns: Cis man, he/him
Sexuality: Gay
Description A smoke demon, he becomes more corporeal the calmer he is and more smoke when more agitated. When fully (or nearly fully) corporeal he looks very similar to when he was alive, with dark wavy hair, pale gaunt features, and slightly stooped posture, though slightly hazy and immaterial, emitting a gentle glow and heat. In full smoke form he remains humanoid, but grows in height and is composed of thick roiling smoke with eyes that glow with a nauseating white heat. He cannot dissipate from this form, but he can generate more smoke that fills the surrounding area. He may not have a full demon mode, or is perhaps merely to timid to have discovered it yet.
Occupation: In life he was a footman, though thus far in hell he has not secured a lasting occupation and is currently squatting in a largely dilapidated building with his companions.
Cause of Death: Hanged for murdering an aristocrat (in self defense, as the man sadistically abused and tortured him though the judge wouldn't hear it).
Location of X: Visible in the back of his throat due to being hanged (additional, far smaller xs are sometimes visible in the smoke swirling around his body in smoke form, as he was suffering severely infected injuries prior to his execution that likely would have killed him had they not)
Powers: He has the ability to impair others' breathing due to being hanged, produces a painful aura of heat when agitated, his corporeal touch can burn (temporary) Xs onto the skin of others
Personality: Extremely anxious, paranoid, and traumatized. He was very religious throughout his life, learning to speak through scripture and religious versus (he's autistic) and is now largely unsure how to proceed. He often behaves strangely, but ultimately is very protective of his found family.
Bonus:
The traits of his Sinner Demon form come from how he was suffering a fever from infected wounds at the time of his death, feared fire, burning, and hell, and how these things were used to torture him (thus driving him to commit the murder, thereby being just as responsible for his death as the rope. Though his smoke form is a mockery of his life's fears it also serves as a promise that he can never be hurt again the same way as before. He can be injured in his corporeal form and must remain solid to heal, but he cannot take further injury once in smoke form.
Sarah
.Potential Death name ideas: Chanteuse. Mirror.
Species: Sinner Demon
Gender & pronouns: Cis Woman, She/her. OR, more interesting idea: genderfluid with changing or mirror pronouns 👀
Sexuality: Bisexual
Description: A parrot demon with small chattering mouths hidden under her feathers that grow in size and get louder in their overlapping the more she lies (they close and shrink when she tells a truth). Her plumage frequently molts and changes, mimicking multiple types of parrot coloration.
Occupation: She has taken on many many short lived jobs since arriving in hell, including singer, pickpocket, prostitute, actress, model, clerk, robber, burlesque dancer, beautician, nurse, getaway driver, and more. She burns through good will quickly, but is always ready to try something new or revisit an old endeavor.
Cause of Death: Though she always invents different falsehoods regarding it, she was stabbed to death by a rich artist she'd seduced because he (erroneously) believed she was scamming him when her criminal past and dubious romantic track record came to light.
Location of X: Over her heart
Powers: Temporary hypnosis that can be bolstered by singing (the more of the mouths she uses the more powerful the effect it is, but the greater the fallout when the effect wears off). Gliding, and a painful venom when her hidden mouths bite.
Personality: A compulsive liar, but very creative, spirited, and hates to see close friends upset. Greatly desires a fanciful romantic love, but is understandably dubious since showing genuine vulnerability lead to a terrifyingly violent and untimely death.
#also random side note:#seeing Alfred's wikipedia page has been updated to actually discuss his probable abuse and PTSD is giving me *emotions*#like I remember it just discussing his homosexuality and the fact he'd killed the baron(which was *big* in and of itself don't get me wrong#but it invokes a feeling that's really hard to articulate to see someone go back and put so much care into his interpretation I just Mrmrmr#I'm very normal about it#hazbin hotel#upstairs downstairs#crossover au#kind of?#expy characters#tv tropes#hazbin#hazbin oc#sort of anyway

Jim Jones + Addictions
Before starting abusing drugs in 1971, he mostly took medication to treat his known ailments, even though it is also known he was already using prescription drugs like Darvon for migraines. Even then, he often took more than the recommended dosage.
His known medication before 1971 was Insulin for his diabetes (diagnosed in 1954, along with high blood pressure), and Nitroglycerin for his heart.
Sometime around 1971, he started to heavily abuse drugs like Amphetamines, Quaaludes, and later liquid Valium and Morphine, Pentorbarbital, Percodan, Oxycodone, …That same year he also started wearing sunglasses at times, his drugs use being one of the reasons.
He often mixed his pills with alcohol, generally Vodka, Whiskey or Cognac, an habit he kept up until the end in Jonestown.
There are reports he was using cocaine and heroin at some point, but there are no other details about it, beside the testimony of Neva Sly Hargrave and Tim Carter (who mentioned only Heroin).
The drug he certainly abused the most though was Amphetamines (not to be confused with Methamphetamine). He took it to stay awake, often working 20-hour days or even more, and get up in the morning. His known paranoia was then fueled even more by the drug intake. People in the congregation had no idea of his addiction and the majority thought the short and long time side effects of the drug were due to some chronic illness. Among the side effects he experienced : quicker reaction time, feeling of energy, chronic trouble sleeping, dry mouth, headache, hostility, severe anxiety, increased heart rate, hypertension, paranoia, violent behavior, convulsions, loss of coordination, obsessive behavior.
A side effect he did not seem to experience with Amphetamine abuse was loss of appetite. Amphetamines can be used as appetite suppressants and in diet pills, but he often talked about food and how he had to try to resist it. In 1972 he made a few references to fasting to lose some weight quickly, and in 1974, he said he can get into a “food problem” because it keeps his mind from thinking. Food was mentioned by Stephan as another addiction for his father, just like drugs.
Quaaludes and Pentorbarbital were used to sleep at night. If he doubled the dosage of Amphetamine, he actually tripled the recommended dosage to sleep. At high doses Pentorbarbital can cause mental confusion, irritability, paranoid or suicidal ideation and impair judgment, and coordination.
Once in Jonestown he relied more and more on Valium for his anxiety. In February 1978, he was prescribed antibiotics for his cough (which later resulted in a lung infection),Terramycin, Erythromycin and Ampicillin. As with all medications, he also abused them, and natural defenses can be affected by their excessive use. Around September 1978, he started using Elavil and Placidyl for depression, both by injection.
At the time of his death, a lethal dose of Pentorbarbital was found in his body as shown in the toxicology report from his autopsy:
The Cult That Died by George Klineman:
Jim occasionally suffered a condition speed freak call being “over amped.” Sounds would be exaggerated; a car’s horn was enough to drive him up the walls. He would get wild-eyes and threaten to attack people who annoyed him, but guards always held him back before he did any harm. One time at the Temple in Los Angeles, Jim Jones had taken a bunch of pills — he selected them by color — and the locomotive inside him had built up such a head of steam, the boiler was ready to explode. He had to walk off all that energy. Jones and others walked out a side door on to South Alvarado Street. Father was rushing and everyone in his group had to walk faster than normal, to keep up with him. Suddenly he stopped. He turned around and push the guards away. “Are you alright, Father?” “Did you hear that?” ”Hear what?” “Did you hear the baby frog croaking?”
Raven by Tim Reiterman :
“Marceline became concerned about this new source of friction and psychological problems. It came to a head once when she grabbed the stash from his medicine chest and, while Jones struggled with her, flushed his drugs down the toilet.”
Jim Jones Jr. :
“Once after I went to Georgetown I had to come back with somebody from the Guyanese government who wanted to do an inspection [of Jonestown], and also talk to Jim. We get there, and no Jim. I go to his cottage, and he’s lying there passed out from drugs. So here I am, dragging my father into the shower and standing in there with him, trying to get him in shape to go out and talk to the guest.”

Post 1022
Jabe Ira Carney, Florida inmate S15074, born 1983, incarceration intake in April 2008, at age 24, scheduled for release April 2027
Manslaughter, Driving with invalid operators License, Fleeing LEO, Reisting LEO, Possession of Heroin
Jabe Ira Carney has the name of his buddy tattooed on his arm, a permanent reminder of the man killed when Carney lost control of a vehicle in a drunken-driving crash on Interstate 275.
Carney and Jason Michael Gibson were in residential drug rehabilitation in St. Petersburg when they left to go drinking in Manatee County in February 2006. Carney, and a passenger survived the roll-over crash. Gibson died at the scene.
At trial in March 2008, Carney's attorneys tried to convince jurors that Carney was not behind the wheel at the time of the crash. The jury deliberated for nearly six hours. Carney was found guilty of DUI manslaughter.
Carney was sentenced to 25 years in prison for crimes that included DUI manslaughter and fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer. His driver's license will be revoked for the rest of his life. Prosecutors pushed for severe punishment, hoping a long stint behind bars would serve as a deterrent.
Carney's friends and family, including his mother, urged Circuit Judge Janette C. Dunnigan to find compassion and not put Carney away for decades.
Defense attorney Jeffrey C. Young of Sarasota asked Dunnigan to sentence Carney to the bottom of a range of prison sentences -- about 12 years. Young noted that the victim also had been drinking.
The friends and family of Carney explored the tension between rehabilitation and punishment. Locking Carney up for a long time, the supporters said, does nothing to help him solve the drug and alcohol addiction that landed him in jail.
A store surveillance camera recorded Carney getting into the driver's seat hours before the wreck on I-275 north of Palmetto. Carney's blood-alcohol level was 0.111 percent -- above the threshold at which Florida motorists are considered impaired.
"I really messed up this time," Carney reportedly told the Florida Highway Patrol.
Last year, Carney ignored a court order to appear for trial on the manslaughter charge. Carney was arrested after a police chase on Interstate 75. He was in possession of heroin.
Carney said he was trying to evade capture because he was wanted for skipping trial.
Dunnigan found little sympathy for Carney, who was also convicted on a felony-level charge of driving with a suspended license.

The end… for the second time in a month.
We needed those two weeks in between so we could miss you, Olympics, but after the Closing Ceremony on August 11, we knew deep down that we would get to experience all that joy again for the Paralympics. This time it’s really the end. We need to go back to our lives and you have timed it perfectly with La Rentrée.
While the Olympic Game and the Paralympic Game are 2 different entities and managed by 2 different committees, Paris2024 wanted the Paralympics to be a true extension of the Olympics. For the first time the emblem (a golden circle with a white flame inside, a stylized rendition of Marianne) and the motto (Games Wide Open/Ouvrons Grand les Jeux) were shared by both events, and even the Olympic and Paralympic mascots were the same: the famous (infamous?) Phryge, albeit an able-bodied Phryge for the Olympics and a prosthetic Phryge for the Paralympics.
While Paris was hosting the Olympics for the third time, it was actually the first time the city had hosted the Paralympics (France has hosted one Winter Paralympics in 1992 in Albertville, while the next one will be in 2030). In fact, the Paralympics began in 1948 with a small gathering of British veterans of the Second World War at Stoke Madeville Hospital (hence why the Paralympics flame is lit there) on the opening day of the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. But the first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome in 1960, and since then they have been held in the same year as the Olympic Games, but in a different city or even country. Since 1988 in Seoul, the Paralympics have been held immediately after the Olympics in the same city and using most of the same venues. Bidding to host the Olympic Games means bidding to host the Paralympic Games as well.
The Paralympic Games have a tremendous track record of transforming host cities and countries, improving the lives of people with disabilities and all those with accessibility needs and acting as a catalyst to improve accessibility. In France, since 2008, able-bodied and Paralympic medalists have received the same amount of money depending on the medal won [NB: since 2021 for the USA paralympiques!]. Since the London 2012 Olympics, guides (para-athletics, para-triathlon, para-cycling and para-triathlon) who accompany visually impaired or blind athletes have also been rewarded with a medal when the athlete reached the podium. The Paralympics are here to drive change in the world and drive this "inclusion revolution".
To say that Paris2024 was amazing is an understatement. But there is something even more special about the Paralympics. Yes all athletes are super-humans but Paralympians are a cut above and we got to see 4,400 athletes from 168 delegations compete in 549 medal events across 22 sports. I've always admired Paralympians but after attending even more events this time than at the Beijing2008 games, I’m in total awe of their abilities beyond their disabilities. The words I heard the most often at the events: Incredible. Unbelievable. Amazing. Everyone seems to be in admiration of the athletes. You can't help but be in amazed when you are in the stands of Paris La Defense Arena cheering the athletes of the Para swimming events or astonished by the complete silence of 12,000 spectators in the Stade Eiffel Tower for Blind football followed by an eruption of applause when a team scores a goal (any team for that matter… although the cheering might be slightly louder when Team France is on the field), that’s also where I got to experience a silent, slow ola where the public rose to their feet in a gentle, synchronised way to create a perfectly silent Mexican wave. The Grand Palais was as packed as for the Olympics for para taekwondo or wheelchair fencing, both events I attended. I couldn’t not go to the gorgeous Para equestrian venue on the grounds of the Palais de Versailles and got again to do the Silent Applause: a very important part of Para Equestrian that encourages the fans to cheer without distracting the rider and the horse. As I never make it to the French Open, the Men's single medals in wheelchairs tennis were the events that finally took me to the mythic Roland Garros central court. I’m not a huge fan of tennis in general (I know the players, and follow the Grand Slam from afar) but the Gold/Silver match between Japan's Tokito Oda (Gold Medalist) and Britain's Alfie Hewett (Silver Medalist) was a real treat and kept us on the edge of our seat for three sets. I may have to look for wheelchair tennis events to watch in the future. Finally one cannot experience the Games (Olympic and/or Paralympic) without attending at least some of the Athletics events at Stade de France. The atmosphere on the final night of the game was electric.
The Olympics are always very popular and well televised but the Paralympics tend to be a bit less enthusiastic and not as well-followed (often due to the lack of media coverage unfortunately). In Paris, however, there were huge crowds at the venues, and local fans not only supported the French athletes, they cheered on athletes from all over the world and made sure the athletes felt welcome. As IPC President Andrew Parsons mentioned in his closing ceremony: For a country famous for its fashion and food, France is now famous for its fans. With more competing countries, more women and more global coverage than ever before, Paris 2024 has set a benchmark for all future Paralympic Games.
With 10 Paralympic and 4 Olympic events, I've had a busy summer in Paris and I’m so glad we’ve decided to stay in town and experience the Games. And yet, there are so many more sporting events I would have love to have seen, especially for the Paralympics: wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, etc, etc. Who knows if I’ll ever live again in a city hosting the Games. Twice was already great.
From Tony Estanguet's closing ceremony speech: This summer, France had a date with history, and the country showed up. France dared to imagine things that had never been done before: the first Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games outside a stadium, the first marathon open to all, the first Games in the heart of the city. France dared to believe in the power of sport.
With the Games, we rediscovered our heritage, our creativity and our capacity to achieve great things. We rediscovered our joie de vivre, our impertinence at times, and above all, all the positive energy that exploded in the stands! These Games will have been an encounter between France and itself. The France that smiles. The France that loves itself. The France that we are proud of. The France that breaks records: Olympic medal records, Paralympic medal records, Spectator records, Audience records, Atmosphere records, “Allez Les Bleus" records.
From Olympic Rings to Paralympic Agitos… Everything must come to an end but memories last forever.
PS: There was no “addressing the elephant in the room” with the Paralympics Opening Ceremony… it was just perfect; although seeing the gorgeous sunset as the Paralympics athletes walked down the Champs Élysées towards the Place de la Concorde was slightly bittersweet as it reminded us of what the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony could have been like (if it hadn't rained that evening).
Edit: Paris2024 sold 12 millions tickets. 9.5 for the Olympics and 2.5 for the Paralympics!!

Reclaim Vitality: The Science Behind Mitochondrial Biogenesis
Mitochondrial biogenesis is the cellular process of increasing the number of mitochondria, the organelles responsible for generating energy. This process is essential for maintaining cellular health and vitality, particularly in tissues with high energy demands, such as muscles. Mitochondrial biogenesis is often triggered by increased energy demand, usually resulting from exercise, caloric restriction, or the intake of specific nutrients.
Mitochondria are the energy producers of the cell, generating ATP, the energy currency of the cell, through oxidative phosphorylation. As cells face greater energy demands, they need more mitochondria to meet these requirements efficiently. The increase in mitochondrial numbers allows cells to produce more energy and better adapt to stress, thus enhancing overall health, recovery, and performance.
Key Factors Involved in Mitochondrial Biogenesis
Several molecular regulators drive mitochondrial biogenesis, with the most important being:
PGC-1α ActivationPGC-1α (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha) is recognized as the master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. This protein plays a pivotal role in controlling the transcription of nuclear genes that encode mitochondrial proteins. When activated by external stimuli like exercise, PGC-1α interacts with transcription factors like NRF-1 and NRF-2 to drive the production of new mitochondria. This results in increased mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication and the synthesis of mitochondrial proteins necessary for energy production and cellular respiration.
AMPK & SirtuinsAMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) is another critical regulator that responds to low energy levels within the cell (a high AMP ratio). It activates PGC-1α, which, in turn, increases the number of mitochondria. AMPK is activated during energy-demanding activities such as endurance exercise and fasting. Sirtuins (SIRT1) are a class of NAD+-dependent enzymes that also regulate mitochondrial biogenesis. Sirtuins, especially SIRT1, deacetylate PGC-1α, further activating it to promote the transcription of mitochondrial genes. Both AMPK and sirtuins respond to energy deprivation, whether through physical exertion or caloric restriction, helping cells increase energy efficiency and prolong cellular longevity.
Antioxidant Defense and Cellular ResilienceOne of the benefits of mitochondrial biogenesis is the enhancement of cellular resilience through improved antioxidant defences. Mitochondria are not only energy producers but also sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can damage cells if not adequately managed. By increasing the number of healthy mitochondria, cells improve their ability to manage oxidative stress. New mitochondria are typically more efficient at energy production and less likely to produce excess ROS, reducing overall cellular damage. This process helps to protect cells from age-related decline and stress-induced damage.
How Mitochondrial Biogenesis Impacts Health and Performance
Mitochondrial biogenesis is essential for maintaining optimal energy production, particularly during periods of increased physical activity or stress. In muscle cells, the increased number of mitochondria leads to improved ATP generation, enhancing endurance and reducing fatigue during prolonged exercise. This is particularly important for athletes or individuals who engage in regular physical activity, as their muscles require a constant supply of energy for performance and recovery.
For general health, mitochondrial biogenesis supports metabolic efficiency and longevity. In metabolic disorders like type 2 diabetes and obesity, mitochondrial dysfunction often results in impaired energy metabolism and increased oxidative stress. By promoting mitochondrial biogenesis, cells can restore normal mitochondrial function, improving insulin sensitivity and energy balance. Furthermore, mitochondrial biogenesis may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases related to ageing by maintaining cellular energy production and reducing oxidative stress.
Beyond exercise and metabolic health, mitochondrial biogenesis is also a key factor in the body’s ability to adapt to various stressors, whether environmental or nutritional. The increase in mitochondrial capacity allows cells to better handle changes in energy demand, supporting recovery and cellular adaptation. For instance, during periods of caloric restriction, mitochondrial biogenesis helps the body use energy more efficiently, contributing to longer-term health benefits, including improved longevity and resistance to age-related diseases.
Supporting Mitochondrial Biogenesis with Nutraceuticals
In addition to lifestyle factors like exercise and caloric restriction, certain nutraceuticals can support mitochondrial biogenesis. Mitokatlyst™-E is one such product that targets mitochondrial function, optimising energy production, and promoting muscle recovery. By stimulating the molecular pathways involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, such products can enhance the body’s ability to adapt to stress, recover more efficiently, and improve overall cellular function.
Conclusion
Mitochondrial biogenesis is a vital process that supports energy production, cellular health, and adaptability to environmental and physical stressors. By regulating pathways such as PGC-1α, AMPK, and sirtuins, cells can increase mitochondrial content to meet higher energy demands, promote muscle recovery, and improve overall vitality. Products like Mitokatlyst™-E are designed to optimise mitochondrial function, helping the body adapt to stress and maintain optimal cellular health. By supporting mitochondrial biogenesis, we can improve energy efficiency, enhance physical performance, and promote long-term health and resilience.

I wish I was exaggerating, but I’ve seen a ton of people unironically call her a Nazi.
Anyway, I know a Wanda defense post was circulating through here just a few days ago, but screw it, I’ve had this on my drive for the longest time, so here y’all go. This is every argument I can think of for why Wanda deserved at least some mercy for her actions in Age of Ultron (some of these are taken from the prelude comics, which are canon):
Their parents were killed by a Stark Industries bomb at age 10. Such a horrific experience that young would make anyone hate Tony, even into adulthood. If Tony wasn’t a negligent warmonger, then this never would’ve happened. (Something I find funny is that the people who try to villainize Wanda for her hatred of Tony are often the same ones who think Tony was completely justified when he tried to murder Bucky in Siberia).
Sokovia was based on Eastern European countries that are full of anti-American propaganda, and no matter what age you are, that can be very persuasive.
Wanda and Pietro were approached by List for the experiments. They did not actively seek out Shieldra.
Steve’s conversation with Maria Hill offers some insight into their mindset as well; they just wanted to help their country and volunteered to be made into warriors the same way he was. (It will never not be hilarious to me that anti-Team Cap people claim that saying this means that "Steve is a Nazi sympathizer". Like... what?)
The riots they took part in were in fact orchestrated by Hydra to draw out potential candidates for the experiments. They were being manipulated.
Their motivation wasn't just petty revenge; it was to help their struggling country (hence why when Agatha asks Wanda about it years later, she says "we wanted to change the world". A lot of people took this to mean she was a loyal Hydra agent, when this could not be further from the truth). The possibility of vengeance for their parents was nothing but a silver lining.
The twins were told that they were working for SHIELD, not Hydra. As far as I know, it has never been confirmed if they knew the Avengers worked for SHIELD.
The very first time we see the twins, they are in prison cells. This alone should tell you that they are not equal members of Hydra.
This one is based on nothing but headcanon, but here we go: in the first Avengers film, the team was acting irrationally after just a few minutes in the same room as Loki’s scepter. Wanda and Pietro were exposed to it for a much longer time. I would argue that it amplified their desire for vengeance to the point where their judgement was impaired. It's not a coincidence that they only turned on Ultron after the scepter was dismantled.
After Strucker's base was destroyed, the twins did not try to carry on Hydra's agenda; they went back to living on the streets of Novi Grad and helping civilians (there is even a deleted scene where Pietro helps out some homeless children). They only got involved again because Ultron recruited them. Had he never come online they likely would have become heroes of Sokovia and eventually either joined the Avengers or at least made peace with them anyway.
What Wanda did to the Avengers is not mind-rape. What she did was show them their fears (or I guess in Steve and Nat’s case a glimpse of the past). How they responded to that is on them.
The Ultron program was in the works LONG before Wanda showed Tony his fears, so don’t you dare try to tell me that she planted the idea in his head. You also can’t tell me that she made him believe that “a suit of armor around the world” was a good idea, because he says the exact same thing at the start of Endgame with no prompting whatsoever. She didn’t even reawaken the idea like so many Tony stans love to claim; he thought of it
As far as Wanda knew, the only thing the scepter did was either kill you or give you powers. She most likely expected Tony to try and recreate Strucker's experiments on her and get himself killed trying to get powers. She had absolutely no way of knowing the scepter would allow Ultron to exist as he did.
Wanda’s illusions incapacitated everyone she touched in Africa. She most likely expected the same thing to happen to Bruce. Also, Johannesburg is over 300 miles from the African Coast. I seriously doubt Wanda made him run that far (or even knew the city existed).
If we do accept the idea that she was a willing member of Hydra, even that doesn’t necessarily mean she doesn’t deserve mercy. There were a lot of former Nazis who were given amnesty after World War Two. And even failing that, like I said earlier there are times when real world logic just doesn’t work for superhero stories.
When Vision is born he is depicted as a being of pure goodness. If he approved of Wanda, that’s enough for me.
The textbook definition of a terrorist is “a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.” Wanda, even when she is serving Ultron, never goes out of her way to harm innocent people (I’ve already covered what she did with Bruce), and she has no political agenda (unless you count wanting to help her country generally), only a desire for vengeance.
You can argue all day about how feeling remorse for your actions doesn't make you better, but she very clearly feels terrible about everything; just watch her scene with Clint near the end of the movie; she has a fucking panic attack because the gravity of everything is finally hitting her, and she is overwhelmed with guilt.
I will admit, her AoU story does feel incomplete. At no point is there a scene where the Avengers debate what to do with her, or whether or not she even deserves mercy or can be trusted. After joining them out of necessity she is accepted as a permanent member without any sort of bridge. But then again, AoU is just not a very good film in general, so I’ll chalk it up to that.
TL;DR - Wanda and Pietro were victims of circumstance and manipulation, as well as a deep-seated hatred caused by severe trauma. Despite some messy writing in their introduction, they. Are. Not. Monsters.
[I know it’s silly to be over-analyzing actions that Wanda has already been narratively redeemed for, and all of this is kind of a moot point after what she has done recently, but to this day I see people arguing that she is a “mind-raping Nazi terrorist bitch who should’ve been depowered, imprisoned, and/or executed, so I felt the need to compile this.]

So, I've already read up a bit on general albinism medical facts and stereotypes and such so I mostly want to ask for a vibe check on some magic/magic adjacent stuff?
I've got this dude that's basically the reason I did the research, he starts out as a witch/witch's apprentice*. This is overall a high-magic-ish world and most of the main characters are involved with some kind of magic (I also want to drive it home that it's a coincidence in-story; I assume it'd be a similar situation to "It's fine if your autistic character has magic, but be careful how you do it"?).
The thing I'm less sure about is that at some point in his early twenties he decides to fight a vampire**, which is a bad idea but one he actually does consult a seer about, who basically proceeds to lie to him because she decided that having someone functionally immortal who knows witchcraft and has been taught to protect the village and people in general since childhood would be great for a vague horrible thing she can kind of glimpse at? So she basically knowingly sends him to get turned into a vampire by a mad scientist vampire.
He doesn't stay one forever (he becomes a demigod eventually which undoes the whole "kind of undead" thing), but I understand that having a vampire with albinism could be kind of questionable even with the context of "these two things are completely unrelated, he's just really unlucky".
Overall he's generally a heroic if tragic character in the sense that a lot of huge responsibilities (Saving the world! Defeating god! Defeating another god!) get dumped on him by virtue of him being both somewhat more powerful than actual mortal mortals now and having the time to theoretically be able to plan things long term, but also to some degree because nobody else will deal with it. Also the whole "unwilling transformation and being forced to work together with the person that indirectly did it to him". I guess in a lot of ways he's almost a classic heroic archetype but with oodles of trauma and the soul crushing horror of being in a fight where your odds of succeeding are absolutely abysmal.
I think I'm good on most of the other pitfalls (he's not evil, has vision issues and uses a variety of accessability aids, mostly big hats, sunglasses and magnifying lenses and has blue eyes as a kid which later change to purple explicitly because of a magical things happening to him-something fairly common for people that get hit by that kind of magical thing), but this one I'm really not confident in.
*Basically, a kind of person that uses magic the way a chemist uses chemistry that doesn't rely on innate talent/magic power, which he has little of. He's pretty average/below average in that respect in this world.
**Vampires are generally integrated into society as a kind of super soldier for defense against all kinds of dangerous critters, though some go rouge and decide to murder people for blood rather than be provided through, I guess blood taxes but literally and not particularly sinister.
(so sorry for the late reply)
Dude! That sounds like an awesome story! :)
The only thing that I would ask you to reconsider is maybe something other than an albino witch? only because other than ghosts and vampires, witches are the number one stereotypical ‘creature’ that people compare people with albinism to because oftentimes in small tribes in Africa, people with albinism are thought of as containing mystical properties, thus are hunted for limbs, teeth, hair, eyes, etc. and are usually eaten/consumed. (Keep in mind this isn’t true for all African places, just really small tribes). But that’s the reason the witch thing can be seen as offensive.
And when it comes to fighting, keep in mind that if your character does have albinism, long range weapons would probably be out of the question because of our visual impairments, so long range weapons (guns, snipers, etc.) are likely out of the question. (I’m not sure if you gave them weapons, just putting down in general)
Hope this helps! :)

literally what are you talking about who mentioned uber 😐 for the record that's fucked up too. impairing yourself or exposing others to it while in a car is fucking stupid and selfish. I realize now that it wasn't a long car ride but your aggressive defensiveness makes me think you'd have done it regardless. just get high at home like the rest of us LOL
exactly.
you literally can’t think deeper than what you’ve been told.
if the only thing that dictates the legality of something is profit then it’s always bullshit and should be fought against.
the government can deem its safe for COMMERCIAL ppl be exposed to “secondhand smoke” while driving but not ppl riding in an individuals transport? that’s so transparently fucked and i feel sad for those who can’t see it

It seems like Ukraine has, slowly but surely, been able to drive the Russian lines back. With winter coming though, will they be able to maintain their current momentum or will they be forced to slow down? And how much longer do you think Russia will be able to send men into the meat grinder?
Winter can make warfare difficult, but it's a mistake to think of modern war as stopping in winter - a look at multi-year modern wars show fierce fighting in winter, even in Ukraine. Winter does strain logistics, as you need to ensure a ready supply of food, uniforms, and fuel, otherwise your soldiers suffer from frostbite and become combat ineffective. High snows can impair the mobility of vehicles (and even dismounted infantry depending on how high it gets). Winter also strains the discipline of the troops, cold soldiers may refuse to fight or simply be ineffective if they decide to fight anyways. These things impact the other - poor logistics can mean no fuel which means the undisciplined soldier either uses a vehicle to keep warm, consuming on-site fuel reserves and further exacerbating the fuel shortage, or creates an open fire which makes them easy to spot by the enemy.
Cold temperatures can impair or assist tactical operations depending on how cold. If the ground is cold but wet, this gums up tracked vehicles. However, if the ground freezes, this mud goes away - tracked vehicles can negotiate cold but dry or frozen ground. I'm not privy to Ukrainian planning, though - I don't know how long it will take for Ukraine to consolidate their gains in Kherson or the state of the Russian defensive lines. My guess is they either they try to cut the northern highway from Valyuki to further strain Russian supplies or they try to cut the land bridge in southeastern Ukraine so they can cut supplies to Crimea and enable more strikes on the Kerch Bridge.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

The Basic details of DWI in Houston
Driving while intoxicated (DWI) is a serious offense that can lead to severe legal consequences in Texas. The state has strict laws and penalties in place to deter people from drinking and driving. If you have been charged with DWI in Houston, it is important to seek the services of an experienced DWI attorney Houston or Houston DUI attorney who can help you navigate the legal system and protect your rights.
In Texas, the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08%. If you are pulled over and your BAC is found to be over the legal limit, you can be charged with DWI. However, even if your BAC is lower than 0.08%, you can still be charged with DWI if the officer believes that you are too impaired to drive.
The penalties for a first-time DWI conviction in Texas can be severe. You could face a fine of up to $2,000, up to six months in jail, and a license suspension of up to one year. You may also be required to install an ignition interlock device in your car, which requires you to blow into a breathalyzer before starting the car. Subsequent DWI convictions carry even harsher penalties.
If you have been charged with DWI in Houston, it is important to hire a DWI attorney Houston or Houston DUI attorney as soon as possible. These attorneys specialize in defending people charged with DWI and have the knowledge and experience necessary to build a strong defense for you. They can challenge the validity of the traffic stop, the accuracy of the breathalyzer test, and any other evidence against you.
One common defense strategy used by DWI attorneys in Houston is to challenge the results of the breathalyzer test. Breathalyzer tests are not always accurate and can be affected by a variety of factors, such as the type of alcohol you consumed, your body weight, and even the temperature of the breathalyzer machine. If your attorney can show that the breathalyzer test results are unreliable, it could help your case.

Hunter James Hudgins, Michigan inmate 755720, born 2002, incarceration intake June 2023, at age 20, earliest release date June 2026, with full release June 2038
Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death
In June 2023, after almost two years of waiting, the family of a Western Michigan University student hit and killed near campus in 2021 received justice.
Hunter Hudgins, 20, was sentenced to 35 months to 15 years in prison after being found guilty on two charges connected to the death Bailey Broderick.
Broderick, 19, was hit by Hudgins as she attempted to cross Fraternity Village Drive near Michigan Avenue in November 2021, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Judge Paul Bridenstine said the incident is tragedy on both sides for Broderick who lost her life and Hudgins who lost his freedom.
Hudgins was convicted of the following charges on April 21:
Operating a motor vehicle under influence or while impaired by liquor causing death
Operating a motor vehicle when less than the age of 21 with a blood alcohol content of .02-.07%.
However, he was found not guilty of committing a moving traffic violation causing death.
Police determined speed and alcohol were both factors in the incident.
Hudgins was also found to have been going 10 mph over the speed limit at the time of the crash, but Hudgins' lawyer stands firm that no person could have reacted in time.
In addition, a toxicologist estimated that Hudgins BAC was near .078% to .094%.
However, on April 19, it was revealed that Hudgins underwent blood tests at Bronson Hospital three hours after the fatal crash, which revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .048%.
“This is a mistake I have learned from, and I will never drink and drive again," Hudgins said. "I wish I would have been able to stop in time so Bailey would still be here. To Bailey's family, I understand the hatred you may have for me, but I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me."
The night of the crash Hudgins pledged to be a driver for his fraternity.
Prosecutor Amy Shepard said the one who claimed to be a sober driver needed a sober driver.
“Drinking and driving causing death is murder, as far as I am concerned Hunter Hudgins is just that, a murderer," Colleen Broderick said.
Police also found alcohol in a backpack inside Hudgins' trunk.
Nearly six months after the crash, Hudgins was arrested.
The defense asked Judge Bridenstine to reduce the sentencing guidelines based on how Hudgins had no prior criminal history, but the request was denied.
