two days after disability payments and I have one bill this month I can't cover on my own, my monthly debt repayment plan. It's $220 and if I don't repay within 10 business days the consolidation agreement gets cancelled. Other than that, just the usual debt chipping. Food would be a huge help too, I've really only been eating tim horton's chili for the past two weeks. I've put cans of those top of list, plus vitamins for balance.
I also placed a winter jacket, and boots at the top of the list. Due to my size and fatphobia, 2x-4x clothing is very expensive but if there is some generous deep pocketed people out there who are looking for a good deed this holiday season, there's one for you.
I wanted to get dental insurance starting this month but it wasn't in the cards financially. It's $117/month with 2 months paid upfront. I plan to pay next cheque day a full month from now, but any donations sent to paypal will be rounded to the nearest whole dollar and anything over will be saved for dental and winter clothes. If someone purchases winter clothes for me it'll all go to dental insurance.
I make these posts just to direct people to my pinned post without making it super long, as well as to pop up in the tags after it gets buried. You can reblog or queue this, but I always prefer interactions with my pinned post. For more information please read my full gfm post

#personal#soo ive discovered a giant hole in my back tooth because medicare doesnt cover dental except for children#and so i havent been since i was 21 and i try to maintain tooth health at home but im not very good at it#due to being raised wrong about it and also autistic and i cant afford even a basic clean and checkup#which is what i was actually looking in my mouth and deciding i need which would be about 300 bucks already#and now im scared to eat anything because i definitely cant afford to make this worse 🙃#genuinely so much bad shit has happened and every time its like. ok ill pick myself up cause no one else will and dust off and things#will be fine in the end they always are and my heart believes this will be fine too but i dont remember the last time i was#this genuinely legitimately scared. im so scared and i dont know what to do#i know the next steps is to call dentists in my area tomorrow and check if they do medicare but i feel i already know the answer#idk if its better to have looked or to not and be able to live my life but its food time and i cant make myself eat#im scared to make it worse im scared of the pain that might cause im scared of the upward 2k damage costs if it gets worse#fuck#fucking fuck#okok panick attack over i have a two step plan: part one call around tomorrow and see if anyone takes medicare#part two: i have pliars and towels and painkillers and a lot of conviction in both my diy skills and my caring for my own wounds skills#in the mean time just be more dilligent to brush immediately after eating and ill grab mouthwash too as soon as i can as im currently out#i have a family friend whos a vet maybe theyve ripped out a rotted dogs tooth or two before and could help. but ill cross that bridge#when i get to it fir neow i should check with real dentists before making assumptions. and eat because ive been crying and shaking#and was already hungry and now am exhausted. from the aforementioned shaking and crying and need to eat even more#in all cases. dentist on medicare being the best obviously but in all cases im gonna ask to keep my tooth. unless i do it i dont need to ask#but i forgot when i had my wisdoms out a a few years ago. holy fuck that was like a decade ago actually wtf#ima make a necklace out of it since its just the one and not a pair#and just like that things will be fine. as expected as they always are once the panick mode is done im ok i have a plan and im good

fun fact, if you live with someone and they die, even if your spouse is their legal, blood daughter, the probate court might still make you sell the house even if you have nowhere else to go and can't afford rent and you're already dealing with a mess of your own medical issues and resulting debt(which is an entirely different stresser we've been dealing with over the last year), just to cover their debts!
fun fact 2, I still have a bankruptcy on my credit report so guess how hard it's going to be to get a mortgage, which would be a lot cheaper then rent!

Okay, how about some dental stuff for some species?
Lenopan
Have no teeth, moving on
Erinaens
Possess 44 teeth as adults, but only 28 when they're tiny, which begin to grow in at about 6 months (Earth time) and are typically done by about a year old
Dental Formula: I 4/4 C 1/1 P 3/3 M 3/3
Babies/toddlers are missing their central pairs of incisors and two back-most sets of molars, as well as canines- the current theory is this helps prevent injury while nursing and slightly lowers choking risk by keeping food further forward in the mouth
They start losing their baby teeth at about 4, a little after the quills begin to grow in. Normally you can tell when a kitten is going to start losing teeth by checking for canine growth, these will grow in before the first baby teeth are lost
In regions where luat trees grow young twigs are harvested and stored in pots of saltwater sealed with resin, to be eaten over the rest of the year to clean the teeth and freshen the breath
In regions where the luat tree doesn't grow the most common method of tooth cleaning is the chewing of bundles of softened bark strips. The juices of various plants are mixed with salt water and it's in this the bundles are stored. A benefit this has over luat twigs in that the bark is inedible, and while it will wear down over time you still get more use out of a single bundle than you do a single twig
Another benefit is that normally at least one of the plants used will have antiseptic properties, helpful with any gum, tongue, or palate injuries
Necromancy is also helpful with this, and a necromancer good with bonework will probably also be able to handle any general dental problems
Still, you're never going to get perfection, doubly so when you lean heavily into frugivore, and especially in Erinaens that live a particularly long time you're likely to lose some teeth. Though it's rare for an Erinaen to lose all them
Dentures and replacement teeth among Erinaens are typically crystal (let them be, they have a lot of it) though wood and bone aren't unheard of
Perison
Possess 30 teeth as adults and 20 as small children, which begin growing in at about a year of age (Earth time) and are typically completely grown by 3 years
Dental Formula: I 1/2 C 0/0 P 3/3 M 3/3
Babies/toddlers are missing their second pair of incisors (present only on the bottom jaw) and back two pairs of molars
Baby teeth typically begin falling at at around 6 years and adult teeth are all in place by 12
Adults' second pairs of incisors grow forward and to the side. In ancient Perison ancestors these formed small, straight tusks used for display and combat, but in modern Perison they grow much more slowly and for most of one's life are noticeable only due to the pushing out of the near portions of the bottom lip to accommodate them. As one grows older, however, uneven wear compared to the rest of the teeth means that without dedicating wearing and grinding tusks become more prominent and can grow up to 2 inches long
All Perison teeth growth throughout their lives in a way similar to horses, to make up for constant wear due to their diet of primarily rough plant matter. These teeth are smaller and grow slower than they were in the past, before cooking became a common occurrence, but care must still be taken to ensure even and consistent wear
This is one of the reasons to chew bone- to encourage tooth wear when eating primarily comparably soft cooked foods
When properly maintained a Perison's teeth will reach the point of uselessness somewhere in their early 70s
For the most part dental hygiene looks like ours, though you won't find floss. Bristles came into play with the advent of plastic (previously you would scrub your teeth with a fabric pad on a handle) but plastics have long fallen out of favor on the planet and as a result one of the most common goods imported from other planets is stiff animal hairs that can be trimmed down into proper bristles- it's expensive, but still less so than setting up whole farms of animals they otherwise aren't going to be able to make use of
Still, the poorest herds and households have mostly gone back to the good old scrubbing pad
There's also a bit of a difference with mouthwashes, which are normally a combination of alcohol and salt which as you can guess isn't the most pleasant thing
Dentures and replacement teeth are normally made out of porcelain anymore, though quality varies. Acrylics and resins are, again, no longer popular. Metals are also sometimes seen, but most prefer for their dentures to look as similar to natural teeth as possible.
The exception is the tusks, which are more often done in metal and, when done in porcelain, are generally done in bold colors or with patterns
Osmosians
Possess 36 teeth and don't deal with that 'baby teeth' situation- the progression from 'grub' to 'chick' comes with a free full set of teeth
Dental Formula: I 3/3 C 1/1 P 3/3 M 2/2
Osmosians regrow their teeth regularly, from their few molars to those nearly 3 inch canines. If you take a tooth out of an Osmosian's head, unless they regrew it in the last month or so you can expect a replacement to come in within the week, and even if they did you can expect a new one in the next month or so
They shed their teeth about once every 2.5 years Earth time, not all at once of course but over the course of the hotter months
This can actually be annoying for Osmosians living off the homeworld, as locations where temperatures in the low hundreds are maintained more often can lead to more tooth shedding, while locations that don't reach those temperatures for sustained periods may not trigger tooth shedding at all
While losing the teeth isn't painful, like any tooth eruption having the new ones grow in can be more than a little aggravating
As a result of this Osmosian dental hygiene is... Lacking. As you would expect from fuckers who just toss their teeth every summer and grow new ones essentially on demand, you don't get big into to taking care of them
It doesn't hurt that the Osmosian diet generally doesn't contain a lot of sugars, so there's less damage being done for the relatively short time they have any particular tooth
They have toothpicks, typically made of copper or silver, but on a day to day basis that's the best you're getting. If plaque build-up gets particularly bad an individual may scrub their teeth down with a piece of hide, but that's not a daily matter.
Pretty much every territory has their preferred plants which are cultivated or gathered purely for the sake of freshening breath, by either chewing or drinking as a tea, and there's heavy trade regarding these particular goods
Tetramand
Possess 36 teeth as adults and 20 when tiny, which typically begin erupting at about 6 months (Earth time) and are all in place by 2 years
Dental Formula: I 2/2 C 2/1 P 2/3 M 3/3
Babies/toddlers are missing their back premolars, back molars, and back pair of upper canines
Baby teeth start falling out at around 8 years and adult teeth have normally all erupted by 14, with the upper canines typically falling out and being replaced last
The canines of Tetramand are notably large in comparison to other teeth- ranging from 1 to 3 inches- with the foremost upper canine being larger still- ranging from 3 to 5 inches. As is to be expected, tooth size correlates to the size of the individual
Tetramand dental hygiene is relatively similar to humans, tooth brushes, toothpaste, toothpicks, you know the deal
Tetramand toothbrushes are generally made of metal or stone, and utilize natural bristles off of a native domestic critter. If you have been a native Khoros critter you will understand what I mean when I say these things don't wear out.
'Change your toothbrush every 3 months' my ass, change your toothbrush every 3 years more like, and that's a low estimate
The fourth most commonly cultivated crop serves a dual purpose here- the fruit is tasty and edible, while the skin of said fruit can be dried and chewed to freshen breath
Tooth loss is more common that you would expect from a planet that actually has good healthcare and access, but then these are Tetramand, most people lose at least one tooth through combat. If you're lucky it'll be when you're little
Dentures and replacement teeth among Tetramand vary by culture- in some locations you'll be given actual teeth- normally from animals, sometimes from dead relatives, while in others you'll get metal. Please try not to eat hot foods if you are in the latter group.

I think it’s the seasonal darkness but this dental stuff feels like the last straw
#went to the dentist for the first time in over two years. not great#my home care has always been spotty but these last few months I’ve been really trying#and at first I was really happy and the new hygienist seemed not completely dismayed#minor gingivitis in back (I used to be at risk for periodontal disease) and like no tartar. gums still bleedy and inflamed but tbh?#a huge win! a great win! I’ve had cleanings that were just cleaning and disappointment so the first was great#dark shadow under one of my fillings. that sucks but it’s been two years so I probably need a new one#doc comes in and. unfortunately. immediately got to work#so when she said I needed a crown and three fillings on my front teeth it was kinda hard not be upset with the new stranger?#idk man. it’s hard to be pleased about the little step forward when there’s over 1k in procedures looming over me#and logically I know it’s not a step backwards. it’s literally consequences from the thing I’ve spent the last month improving#specifically bc it was gonna have consequences like this#and frankly! it’s not that bad! two years ago I had multiple caries that the dentist warned me could get bad and they didn’t!#but I never thought I’d have front teeth fillings. and a crown makes me feel bad bc I wasn’t expecting it#really fighting a losing battle against the feeling that dental care doesn’t matter anymore bc of these#which is not true. and is silly. bc only with this care and more can I keep my mouth from having this happen again so soon#it’s just really bumming me out#I was really proud and now I feel really ashamed bc the habits were bad and my fixing it now doesn’t really matter#bc it was bad then and affected me bc I didn’t fix it then. and I’m frustrated#edit: I took a fifteen minute break and fixed this btw#I’m old enough to afford doing this mentally and financially. the me who made these mistakes originally thought she’d be dead at 17#and now I’m carrying it bc she couldn’t. I’ve never been good at regretting or despairing at my past haha#I’ll do my best (and sometimes it won’t be perfect) bc I’ve taken better care in these last two month than in the two years preceding#why wouldn’t i be proud. of course it matters. I’ll fix this to fix her mistakes and make it easier for the one after me#this self love shit is easy ajskdlf

the duality of my d&d groups is crazy because one of them (while still being chaotic and slightly murder hobo-y) most of the time actually follows the plot sometimes meanwhile the other party mid-campaign killed one of their own people, brought their ghost back to the same plane of existence as them, and then sent the ghost to the bbeg's lair and gave him a seizure via possession

#tag talk#had a new therapist appointment today. she seems nice and I think we'll probably get along.#I complained about growing up queer and christian and she complained about her bible thumping sister so I complained about my little brother#who is the same flavor of dogmatic religious and as long as it doesn't ever turn into her genuinely complaining about stuff to me we're good#I'm always bad at open ended questions like “tell me about yourself” but I can go off for an hour with a prompt like “do you have any kids?”#I woke up my laptop an hour ahead because it's so fuckin old it needs the time to wake up but my pc doesn't have a webcam so laptop it is.#I got a headset that connects with a bluetooth dongle because my pc network card doesn't have onboard bluetooth and it's nice#cause I don't have to worry about audio cords and I can walk around the house while still connected to call.#so many people I vc with have issues with headphones and mics unplugging all the time and I'm like hah I'm better than you.#anyway. we'll see how it goes. she was nice and wasn't sarcastic or passive aggressive so better than the first person I saw here.#and she actually responds to my comments and asks questions instead of just silently listening so better than my last actual therapist.#fourth time's the charm maybe. we'll see. I'm also in a place where I can get even more done myself with just a little external motivation#so even if she's not remarkably insightful I'm in a better place mentally so with a bit of external impetus I can get even more done now.#I picked weekly instead of biweekly because I will forget stuff so fucking fast if I pick biweekly and I can schedule it further away later#if I decide that's what I want/need/can handle. but yeah. new stuff#I still to call their dental department about a checkup cause it's been since 2019 since I got an actual checkup.#I brush and floss and mouthwash because I'm paranoid of having an issue without immediate dental care so I'm prolly fine#but it would be nice to be sure about it instead of just presuming and guessing.#once again thanks for socialized healthcare even if it is pretty garbage in the US it's absolutely better than nothing.#if/when I want gender surgery shit it'll probably be a whole-ass issue but for the entry-level shit it's very manageable.#anyway. I almost forgot about my scheduled appointment because when my brain is nervous about stuff it chooses to forget about it#which has cause problems in the past and certainly will again in the future but I remembered early enough that I didn't try and shower#cause deadass one time I had to hop out of the shower to take a scheduled Dr call cause I forgot about it#if my music hadn't paused I wouldn't have noticed.#no big deal just me talking about important medical treatment stuff buck ass nude full thang swangin#anyway. hopefully good things in the future perhaps.#I have to go shower for real now. byeeeeee

The Cost of Dental Implants: What You Need to Know and How to Save Money
Dental implants have become an increasingly popular solution for those looking to replace missing teeth. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, dental implants are a permanent solution that can look and function just like natural teeth. However, as with any medical procedure, there are costs associated with dental implants that can vary depending on several factors.
The cost of dental implants can vary widely depending on a variety of factors, including the number of teeth being replaced, the type of implant used, and the location of the dental practice. In general, the cost of a single dental implant can range from $1,000 to $4,000 or more, with the cost of a full set of dental implants potentially reaching tens of thousands of dollars.
One of the most significant factors affecting the cost of dental implants is the number of teeth being replaced. A single implant to replace one tooth will typically be less expensive than multiple implants to replace several teeth. Additionally, if the patient needs a full set of implants to replace all of their teeth, the cost will be much higher than for a single tooth replacement.
Another factor that can affect the cost of dental implants is the type of implant being used. There are several different types of implants available, each with its own unique benefits and costs. For example, traditional dental implants are made from titanium and are surgically implanted into the jawbone. These implants can be more expensive than other types of implants, such as mini dental implants, which are smaller and less invasive.
The location of the dental practice can also impact the cost of dental implants. Dental practices located in more expensive areas, such as large cities or affluent suburbs, may charge more for their services than practices located in more rural or economically depressed areas. Additionally, some practices may charge more simply because they have more experience and a better reputation in the field of implant dentistry.
While the cost of dental implants can be significant, it is important to remember that they are a long-term investment in your oral health and quality of life. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, dental implants can last for many years and even decades with proper care and maintenance. Additionally, dental implants can improve your ability to eat and speak, boost your confidence and self-esteem, and even prevent further damage to your remaining teeth and jawbone.
Fortunately, there are several ways to reduce the cost of dental implants and make them more affordable. One option is to look for dental practices that offer financing or payment plans to help spread out the cost over time. Additionally, some insurance plans may cover a portion of the cost of dental implants, particularly if they are deemed medically necessary.
Another way to save money on dental implants is to shop around and compare dental prices from different dental practices. Websites like Dentrily make it easy to search for and compare dental prices in your area, so you can find the best deal on dental implants without sacrificing quality or safety.
In conclusion, while the dental implants cost can be significant, they are often worth the investment for those seeking a permanent solution to missing teeth. Factors like the number of teeth being replaced, the type of implant used, and the location of the dental practice can all impact the cost of dental implants. However, there are several ways to make them more affordable, including financing options, insurance coverage, and price comparison tools like Dentrily. Ultimately, the benefits of dental implants can far outweigh the cost, improving your oral health, quality of life, and overall well-being.

i saw that one disability-related post a while ago about dental care but i can't find it again so i'm gonna mention a few things as a (mild to moderately) mentally & physically disabled person, whose teeth hurt when i eat sweet stuff now + i've had a root canal due to a fall + i'm learning to take care of myself, that may or may not help other folks with their dental routine
note: i am not a dentist & this info is mostly what i've gleaned secondhand from dentists, so yeah, i am not an expert in any capacity
water flossers aren't as effective as regular flossing (doing both is actually what's most effective) but they're better than nothing & helpful in cases where coordination problems or other issues might prevent regular flossing technique (i imagine this also depends on the quality of the water flosser)
if you use one of the plastic pre-made floss picks things, rinse the string off in-between each time you use it to floss one side of a tooth, it's tedious but it mimics moving to a new (clean) part of the thread like you do with regular floss
if you get an automatic toothbrush, get one that does circular rotation rather than just vibrating or whatever, as this mimics the tools they use in a dentist's office + imitates the circular motion you're expected to make with a standard toothbrush (which is also hard with coordination issues), i got one that does this pretty cheap from walmart (it's an oral-b but i forgot the specific type) + it automatically times it for you
if you have white spots on your teeth that are uneven with the shade of the rest of the tooth those are potentially white spot lesions due to demineralization; whitening products can make this worse rather than help it, but some products can help with remineralization such as mi paste topical tooth creme, which contains calcium and phosphate (i have yet to try this myself but it seems to get suggested by a lot of dentists, orthodontists, etc. for white spots on teeth & it's also supposed to help with sensitivity and tooth health in general because the white spots are lesions so it's not purely cosmetic!)
it's advised to not rinse your mouth immediately after brushing as this potentially dilutes & reduces the effects of the flouride (if you use fluoride toothpaste), stuff says to wait at least 15 minutes or so
just giving your teeth a quick scrub (even if it's without toothpaste and just water) is better than not brushing your teeth at all
if you have trouble seeing a dentist for financial reasons, try to see if there are income-based or charity dental services in your area, sometimes dental schools also provide low-cost/free dental care
that's all i can think of for now, i wish i had more advice for people who struggle to be able to brush their teeth at all in general but this is all i got unfortunately :(
additionally - you're not bad, useless, gross, or a failure if you struggle to (or can't) maintain oral hygiene; this stuff is much easier for some people than it is to others & those who take it for granted like to forget that, no one deserves to be mocked or looked down on for being disabled & struggling to/not being able to do """basic""" stuff like this!
