I have what I believe is an abscess in my gum. It's in the back of my mouth so I can't be sure, but it hurts just an awful lot. I am disabled and unemployed with a disability application currently in limbo. There are no accessible low-cost dentists/charities near me, and the estimate I've gotten from a regular dentist's office is $380. I cannot afford $380. Thus, I have started a GoFundMe for the cost of the procedure.
Abscesses can be dangerous if not dealt with in time, and they do not heal on their own. I've already put this off while dealing with family issues and trying to find an affordable option, and the pain is getting worse. Please, please help me get this addressed before it becomes a much worse issue.
GoFundMe
Paypal
Cashapp
Any funds raised past the estimate will be used for unforeseen fees, any necessary medications, and possible complications in my care. Thank you all so, so much.

5 Essential Tips to Prevent Dental Emergencies: A Guide to Protecting Your Smile
Dental emergencies, such as a broken tooth or severe toothache, often strike without warning, causing discomfort and stress. While accidents can happen, many dental emergencies are preventable with the right approach to oral care.
Knowing how to prevent these issues is just as important as knowing where to find an emergency dentist near you. Let’s explore some practical tips to help you avoid common dental emergencies and maintain a healthy smile.
Prioritize Regular Dental Checkups Routine dental checkups are your first line of defense against dental emergencies. During these visits, your dentist can identify potential problems, like cavities or weak enamel, before they escalate. Professional cleanings also remove plaque and tartar buildup that contribute to tooth decay and gum disease.
Benefits of Regular Dental Checkups:
Early detection of cavities and other issues. Professional cleaning to remove hard-to-reach plaque. Guidance on improving your at-home dental care routine. By visiting your dentist every six months, you can address minor concerns early and significantly reduce the likelihood of needing emergency dental care.
Maintain a Strong Oral Hygiene Routine Daily oral hygiene is essential to prevent dental problems that often lead to emergencies. Brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash can help keep your teeth and gums healthy and free from decay or infection.
A Complete Oral Hygiene Routine Includes:
Brushing for two minutes, twice daily, with fluoride toothpaste. Flossing daily to remove food particles between teeth. Rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash to reduce harmful bacteria. Consistent oral care minimizes the risk of issues like toothaches, gum infections, and other conditions that might require urgent attention.
Wear a Mouthguard During Sports and Physical Activities If you participate in sports or high-impact activities, wearing a mouthguard is crucial for protecting your teeth. Sports-related accidents are a common cause of dental emergencies, such as chipped or knocked-out teeth.
Why Use a Mouthguard?
Prevents chipped or lost teeth. Shields your lips, cheeks, and tongue from injury. Reduces the risk of jaw fractures. For the best protection, consider a custom-fitted mouthguard from your dentist, as it provides superior comfort and effectiveness compared to store-bought options.
Avoid Using Your Teeth as Tools Using your teeth to open bottles, tear packaging, or chew on hard objects like ice or pens can lead to chips, cracks, or breaks. These habits not only damage your teeth but can also result in painful dental emergencies.
Protect Your Teeth by:
Using scissors or other tools to open items. Avoiding hard foods and objects that can crack your teeth. Chewing carefully to avoid accidental damage. Remember, your teeth are designed for chewing food, not for handling non-food tasks.
Address Small Dental Issues Quickly Ignoring minor dental problems, like mild tooth pain or a chipped tooth, can lead to more serious complications over time. Early treatment of these issues prevents them from developing into emergencies.
Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore:
Persistent tooth pain or sensitivity. Small cracks or chips in teeth. Swollen, red, or bleeding gums. By acting promptly, you can save yourself from unnecessary discomfort and costly emergency treatments.

Emergency Dental Care: What You Need to Know in Times of Urgency
Dental emergencies can occur unexpectedly, and knowing how to handle them is crucial for your oral health. Whether it’s a severe toothache, a knocked-out tooth, or a dental abscess, Emergency Dental Care is essential to prevent further complications and alleviate pain. In such situations, seeking immediate treatment from an Emergency Dental Clinic can help you get the relief you need while avoiding long-term damage.

What is Emergency Dental Care?
Emergency Dental Care refers to immediate treatment provided for dental problems that require urgent attention. Dental issues can arise suddenly, and the discomfort they cause can sometimes be unbearable. Common dental emergencies include severe tooth pain, trauma from accidents, broken or cracked teeth, and infections that can spread rapidly. If left untreated, these conditions can lead to more severe problems, including tooth loss or systemic infections.
Unlike routine dental appointments that can be scheduled in advance, Emergency Dental Care is meant for situations where swift treatment is necessary to save a tooth or manage significant pain. An emergency dentist is trained to handle various dental emergencies promptly and effectively, ensuring that you receive the necessary treatment as quickly as possible.
When to Visit an Emergency Dental Clinic
It is important to know when to seek urgent dental care. If you experience any of the following, you should visit an Emergency Dental Clinic immediately:
Severe Tooth Pain: Persistent, throbbing pain in your tooth can indicate an infection, cavity, or abscess that needs urgent attention.
Chipped or Broken Teeth: Accidents can cause fractures or breaks in your teeth. If you experience this, it’s vital to get dental attention to prevent further damage or infection.
Knocked-Out Teeth: If your tooth has been knocked out due to an accident or trauma, quick intervention can sometimes save the tooth. Make sure to keep the tooth moist and visit the clinic as soon as possible.
Abscesses and Infections: If you notice swelling, redness, or pus around your gums or teeth, it could be a sign of a dental abscess. These infections require urgent care to prevent them from spreading.
Bleeding Gums: Unexplained or persistent bleeding from your gums can signal an underlying issue that may require immediate attention.
An Emergency Dental Clinic will have the necessary tools and expertise to treat these conditions quickly, providing relief and preventing further damage to your teeth and gums.
Benefits of Visiting an Emergency Dental Clinic
One of the main benefits of visiting an Emergency Dental Clinic is the speed with which you can receive treatment. Unlike general dental offices, emergency clinics are set up to accommodate urgent dental cases, meaning you won’t have to wait for days to get help. This prompt care can help reduce pain, prevent complications, and increase the likelihood of saving a damaged or knocked-out tooth.
Moreover, emergency dental clinics are usually open during non-business hours, including weekends and holidays. This availability makes them a reliable choice when you experience an urgent dental issue outside of regular office hours.
How to Prepare for a Visit to an Emergency Dental Clinic
To ensure the best possible outcome during a dental emergency, it’s important to be prepared before heading to the Emergency Dental Clinic. Here are a few tips:
Preserve the Tooth: If your tooth has been knocked out, rinse it gently with water (without scrubbing) and try to place it back in its socket. If that’s not possible, store the tooth in milk or a saline solution until you can see the dentist.
Avoid Painkillers: While it may be tempting to take painkillers for relief, avoid aspirin as it can increase bleeding. Over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen is a safer option.
Contact the Clinic: Before visiting, call the Emergency Dental Clinic to explain your symptoms. This allows them to prepare for your arrival and may provide instructions on how to manage the situation before you get there.
Conclusion
Dental emergencies can happen when you least expect them, and knowing how to handle them is key to preventing further damage and ensuring swift recovery. Emergency Dental Care can make a significant difference in your oral health by addressing problems as they arise. Whether you’re dealing with severe pain, a broken tooth, or an infection, visiting an Emergency Dental Clinic can offer the relief and treatment necessary to preserve your smile and overall health. Don’t hesitate to seek urgent care if you experience any of the signs of a dental emergency, as prompt action can often prevent more serious complications.

Dental Emergencies: When to Seek Immediate Help and How King Street Dental Can Assist
Dental emergencies can strike unexpectedly, causing significant pain and discomfort. Knowing when to seek immediate help and where to turn can make a significant difference in the outcome. This blog post will guide you through common dental emergencies and highlight how King Street Dental can provide swift and effective emergency dental care.
Common Dental Emergencies:
Severe Toothache: A persistent, throbbing toothache that doesn't subside with over-the-counter pain relievers often signals an underlying issue like an abscess or a cracked tooth.
Knocked-Out Tooth: If a tooth is completely dislodged from its socket, time is of the essence. Prompt action can increase the chances of successful reimplantation.
Broken or Chipped Tooth: Trauma to the mouth can result in broken or chipped teeth, potentially exposing the sensitive inner layers of the tooth.
Lost Filling or Crown: A lost filling or crown can leave the tooth vulnerable to decay, sensitivity, and further damage.
Severe Gum Infection: Swollen, bleeding gums accompanied by fever and difficulty swallowing may indicate a severe gum infection that requires immediate attention.
Oral Trauma: Injuries to the mouth, such as cuts, lacerations, or bite wounds, can cause significant bleeding and require prompt treatment to prevent infection.
When to Seek Emergency Dental Care:
Intense, Unbearable Pain: If the pain is severe and debilitating, don't hesitate to seek immediate assistance.
Significant Swelling: Swelling in the face or around the mouth can indicate a serious infection and requires prompt medical attention.
Excessive Bleeding: Uncontrolled bleeding from the mouth that doesn't stop after applying gentle pressure is a cause for concern.
Loose or Knocked-Out Teeth: Time is critical for saving a knocked-out tooth. Seek immediate dental care to increase the chances of successful reimplantation.
Difficulty Breathing or Swallowing: These symptoms may indicate a more serious underlying condition and require immediate medical evaluation.

Understanding the Different Types of Braces Available Today
Orthodontic treatment has evolved significantly over the years, offering various options for individuals seeking to correct misaligned teeth and improve their smiles. Braces have long been the go-to solution for orthodontic issues, but the braces available today cater to different needs, preferences, and lifestyles. This article explores the various types of braces, their benefits, and considerations for those considering orthodontic treatment.
Tumblr media
Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most recognisable type of braces. They consist of high-quality stainless steel brackets and archwires. They apply continuous pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into alignment.
1. Effectiveness
One primary advantage of traditional metal braces is their effectiveness in treating many orthodontic issues. They can address complex cases, including severe crowding, spacing, and bite problems.
2. Durability
Metal braces are known for their durability and strength. They can withstand the forces exerted during orthodontic treatment, making them a reliable option for patients of all ages.
3. Customisation
Patients can personalise their metal braces with coloured elastics, adding fun to their orthodontic journey. This customisation is especially popular among younger patients, allowing them to express individuality.
Despite their effectiveness, traditional metal braces are more noticeable than other options, which can concern some individuals. However, their proven track record and affordability make them a popular choice.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are similar to traditional metal braces but use tooth-coloured or clear brackets, making them less visible. This aesthetic advantage has made ceramic braces increasingly popular among adults and teens who wish to maintain a more discreet appearance during treatment.
1. Aesthetic Appeal
One of the most significant benefits of ceramic braces is their aesthetics. The clear or tooth-coloured brackets blend well with the natural colour of the teeth, making them less conspicuous than metal braces.
2. Effectiveness
Ceramic braces function similarly to metal braces, effectively treating various orthodontic issues. They can correct alignment, spacing, and bite problems just as efficiently.
3. Considerations
While ceramic braces offer aesthetic advantages, they are generally more fragile than metal braces. Patients must exercise caution with certain foods and activities to avoid damaging the brackets. Additionally, ceramic braces may require more frequent adjustments due to their susceptibility to staining, mainly if patients consume certain foods or beverages.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are a unique option placed on the teeth' back surfaces, making them virtually invisible from the front. This innovative design allows for effective treatment without compromising aesthetics.
1. Discreet Appearance
The primary advantage of lingual braces is their hidden placement. They are ideal for individuals seeking a discreet orthodontic solution without sacrificing effectiveness.
2. Custom Fit
Lingual braces are custom-made for each patient, ensuring a precise fit and effective treatment. The brackets and wires are specially designed to conform to the unique shape of the patient's teeth.
3. Considerations
While lingual braces offer significant aesthetic benefits, they may require more adjustment. Patients often experience initial discomfort as they adapt to the positioning of the braces on the tongue's surface. Additionally, lingual braces may not be suitable for all cases, particularly severe alignment issues, as they can be more challenging to adjust than traditional braces.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners like Invisalign have revolutionised orthodontic treatment by providing a nearly invisible alternative to traditional braces. Made from smooth, transparent plastic, these custom-fit trays gradually shift teeth into alignment.
1. Aesthetic Advantage
Clear aligners are popular for their aesthetic appeal. Their transparent design allows patients to undergo treatment without the noticeable appearance of traditional braces.
2. Removability
One of the most significant advantages of clear aligners is their removability. Patients can take them out during meals, making it easier to maintain proper oral hygiene. This flexibility allows individuals to enjoy their favourite foods without restrictions.
3. Comfort
Clear aligners are generally more comfortable than traditional braces, as they lack the brackets and wires that can irritate. The smooth plastic material reduces the risk of cuts or abrasions in the mouth.
4. Considerations
While clear aligners offer numerous benefits, they may not be suitable for all orthodontic issues. Complex cases may require more traditional treatment methods. Successful treatment relies on patients wearing the aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day, which requires commitment and discipline.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces are a variation of traditional braces that use a specialised bracket system to hold the archwire in place without needing elastic bands.
1. Reduced Friction
One key benefit of self-ligating braces is reducing friction, allowing teeth to move more freely. This can result in shorter treatment times and fewer adjustments.
2. Easier Maintenance
The absence of elastic bands makes self-ligating braces more straightforward to clean and maintain. Patients may find it more convenient to keep their braces clean, contributing to better oral hygiene during treatment.
3. Aesthetic Options
Self-ligating braces are available in metal and ceramic options, allowing patients to choose a style that suits their preferences.
4. Considerations
While self-ligating braces offer several advantages, they may not suit all patients. Individual treatment plans should be discussed with a dental professional to determine the most appropriate option.
Choosing the Right Type of Braces
Selecting the correct type of braces is a crucial decision that depends on various factors, including the severity of the orthodontic issue, aesthetic preferences, lifestyle, and budget. Individuals must consult with a qualified orthodontist to discuss their needs and goals.
During the consultation, the orthodontist assesses the patient’s oral health, explains the treatment options, and recommends the most suitable treatment plan. This collaborative approach ensures that patients make informed decisions about their orthodontic care.
In summary, the orthodontic landscape has expanded to include a range of braces that cater to diverse needs and preferences. Each option has unique benefits and considerations, from traditional metal braces to discreet clear aligners. By understanding the various types of braces available today, individuals can make informed choices that align with their aesthetic goals and orthodontic requirements. With advancements in dental technology and techniques, achieving a beautiful, healthy smile is more accessible than ever.

Knowing When to Seek Emergency Dental Care in Atlanta
Chipped or damaged teeth? Gum bleeding? Severe pain in the teeth?
Most of us have faced these dental issues at some point. However, not everyone can tell the difference between a minor dental concern and a true emergency, and it’s easy to understand why.
First, the same problem may cause different symptoms in different people. For example, a chipped tooth may cause no pain for one person but severe pain for another.
Also, it is quite challenging to determine the severity without professional examination. A small chip might seem minor, but it could lead to infection if left untreated. Many people also have misconceptions about tooth pain or damage, preventing them from seeking dental care.
Sure, not every dental condition calls for emergency care. However, knowing when to seek emergency dental care can save your smile and prevent unnecessary pain.
Here we will learn when to go for emergency dental care in Atlanta and beyond.
If Your Teeth is Knocked Out:
You can lose your tooth entirely following a sports injury or a fall.
In this case, make sure to preserve your tooth within 30 to 60 minutes of the injury. It can save your tooth and keep it fit to be planted back into the socket, minimizing the chances of getting a dental implant or other replacement options.
However, avoid touching it near the root. Instead, hold it from the crown (the portion of your tooth that chews your food). Clean the tooth with water, but don’t use soap or anything to wrap it in. Keep the tooth back in the socket and hold it in place with your mouth to keep it moist. If you are not able to put it back in the mouth, place it in milk.
Following such steps will increase the possibility of replanting your knocked-out teeth in your mouth. You can also keep tooth preservation kits in your car or at home to deal with unforeseen events.
Unexplained, Severe Tooth Pain:
Of course, having tooth pain is quite normal. But that’s not the case with intolerable tooth pain, especially if it is preventing you from falling asleep and disturbing your routine life. Even worse, you may experience swelling and a bad taste in your mouth. This may lead to fever as well.
This kind of toothache is caused by either infection or injury of the nerve-filled pulp inside the teeth. Some common causes of toothache are decay, gum infection, an abscess, broken tooth, and tooth grinding.
Needless to say, you should reach out to emergency dental care in Atlanta or elsewhere to get this teeth condition treated.
Bleeding or Swelling of the Gums:
If you are new to flossing, your gums may bleed temporarily until they adjust. But if you can’t tell why your gums are bleeding, it may not be a normal dental condition. Seek emergency dental care if the bleeding occurs without an obvious cause, especially if the bleeding is coupled with swelling or pain. Don’t overlook these symptoms. Timely dental attention can lower further complications.
If Your Filling is Lost:
Fillings don’t last forever, and if one falls out, it can cause pain. You should rush to your emergency dentist as soon as possible.
Depending on the situation, your dentist can replace the filling, but if the cavity is deep, a root canal or crown may be needed. Delaying treatment can lead to further decay and even tooth loss. Additionally, teeth that get injured might become discolored, but there are whitening treatments to restore their appearance.
Getting timely care can help prevent complications and keep your teeth healthy.
Exposed Nerves:
An exposed dental nerve happens when the protective layers of enamel and dentin covering the tooth’s nerve are damaged, leaving the nerve open. This can cause intense pain and sensitivity to things like hot, cold, sweet, or acidic foods and drinks.
An exposed nerve can lead to severe pain. This condition demands emergency attention from your dentist. Otherwise, the pain may worsen, and the problem can be more serious. Seeing your emergency dentist right away can help prevent further nerve damage and infection.
Damaged Dental Crown:
If a dental crown cracks or falls out, the tooth underneath is at risk of infection and additional damage. The longer you wait to see a dentist, the greater the chance of complications. Timely dental care can help prevent further issues, such as the need for a root canal or even a tooth extraction.
Getting to the dentist quickly can protect the tooth and avoid more extensive treatments.
It’s important to address any crown damage right away to maintain your oral health and prevent more serious dental problems from developing.
Tooth Abscess:
A tooth abscess is a pocket of pus that forms around the root of an infected tooth. If not treated, the infection can spread to other areas of your body. Treatment is necessary to prevent this.
Your emergency dentist may prescribe antibiotics, perform a root canal, or remove the tooth. In some cases, the abscess may need to be drained surgically before any other treatments can be done.
