I haven't told the Neil Newbon elevator story so I'm gonna tell the Neil Newbon elevator story.

So earlier this year, I attended the bg3 BAFTA masterclass and I may have gotten a smidge inebriated at the reception afterwards when I thought that it would be a wonderful idea to calm my nerves by drinking champagne on an empty stomach.

It was not a wonderful idea. Drinking all that champagne did not calm my nerves, it only made me really need to pee and the world kind of spinny. I am now tipsy and nervous. So, I walk in what I hope is a vaguely straight line to the lift and press the up button because that's where the loos are and I am not stumbling up the stairs of BAFTA HQ. BAFTA HQ has too many stairs (I would complain about this later with Halsin's actor, Dave Jones).

There is no queue, the lift is mercifully fast and I am extremely grateful except the issue is:

when the doors open, the actor of my favourite character, Neil Newbon himself is inside and the surprise of it must override the alcohol in my body because I make the split second executive decision to absolutely not make a fool of myself in front of Neil Newbon.

Except I do make a fool of myself in front of Neil Newbon because I kind of just stand there, apparently looking so visibly gormless and deer-in-the-headlights that he starts laughing.

So anyway I took the stairs.

sorry to say but the maker-fledgling/parent-child relationship dynamics make DM so much juicier. and i don't mean that in a kinky way in the slightest i mean it's insane to be adamant about never having a child for 500 years, break that vow on a whim and then be a deadbeat dad for a bit. and also on the more lighthearted and sappy side of things it's really interesting for a dying man in his 70s to be given another shot at life, with eternity ahead of him and the power of an ancient in his veins to inherit over the course of that eternity. idk idk! it's just neat.
