why i love mahito

i desperately need to rant about his character because my god, hes so well written its mind blowing.

i get asked quite a bit why mahito is my favourite character, of course, i love his appearance. but i also love how beautifully complex his character is.

unlike many other anime villains, hes not evil because of trauma or revenge hes evil just because. hes evil because he follows his instincts as a curse and thats just who he is. he enjoys killing people because its fun, theres no "for the greater good of society" or "i need to prove myself" sort of tropes about him.

(i will add that i actually don’t think he’s inherently evil at all. but that will be for another post)

but this fact also doesnt make him one dimensional how alot of "pure evil" villains are.

due to the relationships established around him, the multiple different dynamics make for an even more interesting character. mahito's dynamic with the diaster curses is one of my favourites. hes shown to care about them as seen where mahito stops haruta from killing an injured hanami, where he scolds geto for putting jogo in danger and also saying he doesnt want to fight jogo when they have a disagreement to what to do with yuji regarding the shibuya plan.

he is shown to care about his friends in his own curse-y way.

mahito is an absolutely beautifully well written and developed character.

hes made to be scary, his actions have consequences

mahito killing junpei, nanami and nobara all prove this. he killed them because he wanted to break yuji and this also additionally adds another level to his character, hes a genuinely frightening villain because every scene hes in, we have no idea what to expect from him.

even his dynamic with sukuna was interesting. sukuna had a few opportunites to kill mahito, he let him off for touching his soul because they both shared a laugh about breaking yuji, which coming from a character like sukuna was very interesting.

mahito embodies what sukuna says to jogo about what being a cursed spirit entails. and i think thats why theres some level of mutual interest. mahito is exactly what jogo couldnt be. and thats also another reason the disaster curses made mahito their leader.

mahito is what a true curse is.

While discussing Arthur’s very violent upheaval into kingmanship with @rowanmerlin, the topic of just how difficult that must’ve been for him came up, and how little the show gives us any hint of it.

We should’ve seen an entire season-wide arc of Arthur struggling to hold down the emotional fort, whilst the idea of never being held by Uther again played like old television static in the back of his head. We should’ve seen cuts of him flexing his fingers nervously before council meetings, or sleepwalking the majority of days (gaining notoriety as the castle’s phantom) and ending up curled into a ball at the foot of Uther’s effigy. We should’ve seen him waking up early to train his new recruits, and then having Leon gently turn him away as he’s no longer needed (leading to him sleeping later, because it feels like his life has no purpose beyond itineraries anymore).

We see a little of his emotional flagellation, “You're wrong, Merlin. I don't need anyone. I can't afford that luxury.” but not all the rest, when it came to all the princely duties he once mainlined, and I think that’s a real shame.

Woke up this morning and it finally hit me that the final nyan night segment was not about Arajin and Matakara, but about Arajin and Senya instead.

The teacher finally musters up the courage to face his beloved Jasmine and "take her" or so to speak (Arajin asking Senya to merge. or. "take him" so to speak) note that they both do this without any doubt or fear, despite being easily frightened before.

Then, when the plan ultimately works out, Jasmine runs off. The teacher is devastated and doing everything he can to find her. (Arajin seems equally upset at Senya's departure). Note that Jasmine is actually shown in the background multiple times throughout the ending segment, signaling to us that she (and Senya by extension) is doing totally fine.

Eventually, the teacher goes back to the cat cafe with the promise of a new companion. Arajin similarly returns to the place where he and Senya met, but he does get his old friend back.

ninjago reincarnation AU where the world ended, and from it´s ashes rose another, similar yet eerly different, growing and changing from being little more than a rock in space, to a modern society much more like our own (show to movie setting :D!). with new old faces, flashes of a world long gone, a simple wish at the end (beggining?) of it all, etc etc...

Can't get it out of my head how bubbly and happy and chatty Nimona was during the whole escape and Evil Lair-y scenes up until Bal called her a monster straight to her face like ouughh

she though she fr though she had a friend again that they somehwat connected because well, the whole world hates them together, but ofc Bal fumbling everything so bad leaving to Nimona sticking by him in the meantime just cuz "She bored" and that shared feeling of being hated outcasts.
