do you think that leonard, when he realises he could maybe, just maybe save jim, feels the slightest bit of struggle from within him, because how dare he, a simple man, try to bring somebody from the death, who gave him the right to even consider it. but he ignores that voice in his head, barely even hears the words in the first place, his hands -the steadiest hands in the galaxy- never shake as he does it, because this was jim, jim who is just as messed up as him but covers it with charm that isn't even fake, jim who smiles too wide and too sharp to cover his incredible heart, jim who has carved his place with bloody fingernails deep into leonard's very soul. jim, who leonard manages to save, to bring back, miraculously perhaps, but the words feels wrong, tainted

splash! au steddie where steve meets the merman that he would swear up and down was real when he was little; the little merman he'd see every time his family would visit the coast.

steve, who moves permanently to that (now much bigger, touristy-adjacent) town and runs into (no, literally, smack into) a fully naked (very handsome, holy shit!) man when he's on his way to the little shop he runs on the coast early one morning.

steve gives him his sweater and shuffles the softly smiling (vaugely familiar???) man to the shop and gives him a spare set of clothes that he'd had there from the remodels he did a couple years ago.

the man follows steve around the shop all day, poking around the books and tchotchkes the shop sells, listening to the tourist stories steve tells him, never speaking, until steve closes up early, taking him just outside town to get him some more clothes and such.

at one point while at the store, the man wanders away and steve panics, eventually finding him gazing wonderously at all the screens in the 'home entertainment' section, completely entranced by the multiple screens playing MTV and blaring music through the speakers for sale as well.

He tries to explain the non-speaking-ness of his new friend to the employee trying to close up their part of the store when the man suddenly speaks, "Hi Steve, how was your day?"

The employee ushers them out and the pair leave, walking back into town. Steve asks, "So what's your name, anyway? Did you learn it from the TV?"

The man rolls his eyes, "I had a name before today, sweetheart."

Steve's stomach flips at the term of endearment, assuming it's just a product of whatever commercials he may have seen today, maybe he thought it was a normal thing to call your friend..they are friends, right?

"O-okay, what is it?"

"It's kinda hard to pronounce in english,"

"Try me, I wanna know."

The man gives him a look, but does, squealing out something more suited for something living in the tanks at Sea World than for a person.

He grimaces at Steve's bewildered look, "I told you."

"Uh.. yeah. Well hey! That's okay, we just need to find something else to call you."

"Like what?"

"Well lets see.. There's Andrew?"

"No.."

"Joseph?"

Another no.

"James? Isaac? Brad? Seymour? John?" more and more names and 'no's until they're nearly home (and no closer to a decision). "Wayne maybe? Where are we... Ah! Edmonton." Steve mutters to himself. Only a couple more streets to go.

The name 'Pablo' is on the tip of his tongue when he's stopped by "Edmonton! I like that one."

Steve snorts out a laugh, "Edmonton isn't really a name, it's--" he cuts himself off this time, seeing the horrible kicked puppy look on the other man's face. "Hey, no, okay, Edmonton it is! We'll call you Eddie for short!"

Eddie grins at him so bright and sincere in that moment, that Steve can feel it hit him, and snap something into place inside him.

He's going to fall in love with this man.

He can feel it.

No wait, just listen to me. Season 9 - Tommy Begins episode, we get all of Tommy's backstory. From abusive/alcoholic/homophobic father, mother who passed while he was young, father finding him kissing a boy in his room as a teenager and show up at school the next day covered in bruises just for him to be shipped off into the military where "don't ask, don't tell" took place. Tommy is out on a rescue solo, when his helicopter crashes and the 118 are rushing to get to the wreckage in time to save him. Tommy thinking that he doesn't deserve to be saved. He did so many questionable things trying to be this person his father want him to be. Proving he wasn't this weak gay man his father always told him he was going to be. Just to then go from under his father's command to under Gerard's command which was the same if not worse. Tommy treated the people who are rushing to save him terribly just to save face and keep in Gerard's good books. Because Gerard could never find out that Tommy, not Tommy, was a gay man in his fire house, they already had a lesbian and minority hires. Tommy knew how Hen and Chimney were treated and he didn't want that for himself. So he faked it. Then Bobby came. Bobby, who encouraged him to get back into flying. Bobby, who saw the good in him when nobody else had in so long. Giving him a chance to redeem himself after being under Gerard for so long. But Tommy still doesn't think he deserves it, never has. But Evan. Evan is good. Evan brings out the parts of him he hasn't seen in such a long time. Evan, who bakes his favourite desserts and watches his romcom movies with him. Evan. Evan. So he fights. He tries to get out of the helicopter and he fights to see the man he loves. Because he knows, Evan won't be whole again if Tommy doesn't make it. He has to fight for Evan, not himself, but for Evan, the man he loves. But maybe, just maybe, it is for himself. Because he is a good person, he was just dealt a really shitty hand. Tommy isn't the same person we saw in the earlier seasons, this Tommy loves himself and won't let anyone else make decisions for him. So he struggles and just can't get himself out of the wreckage. And just as he's giving up, Evan is there. To help him, to remind him, that Evan is there and will always be there to keep Tommy afloat. He makes it out of the wreckage. This song is playing in the background of the rescue.

Kyoshi kill math: cracked and solved

It's funny, like.....if you hurt Rangi, you're chance of dying to Kyoshi goes up like.....150-200% (guesstimating) ajfkdlsjaf; And like that's Kyoshi choosing to kill you ON PURPOSE.

Like look at her bad guy list:

Tagaka, alive (threatened Yun, but didn't threaten Rangi, I see your favoritism Kyoshi, I know what you are 👁👄👁)

Guan (lei tai guy), left alive then died later (Kyoshi left him alive because Rangi beat him and broke his leg, he did of unrelated reasons later)

Jianzhu, dead (was already planning on killing him, but went for kill shot at the mention of him saying he'd kill Rangi)

Mok, alive (was creepy about Rangi, but otherwise didn't harm Rangi)

Wai, alive (weird guy, but not towards Rangi)

Xu Pin An, dead (literally went into the Avatar State because he was mentally torturing Rangi. Thought about dashing his brains out on the floor the second she entered AS, realized she should hold back and only decided to kill him because he was a lost cause)

Governor Te, alive (never came near Rangi)

Saowons (leaders), alive but thought about killing the leaders (only ones she internally didn't think about Rangi at that moment, THAT BEING SAID they also made Rangi's life a living hell. It's also the only one Kuruk thought to step in and stop)

Brawl in North Chung-Ling/Koulin, alive (Rangi beat them up, and Kyoshi actually stopped Rangi from killing Koulin.

Yun, dead (almost killed Rangi)

Chin the Conqueror, left alive but died (Kyoshi chose to separate herself and Yokoya from the combat, Rangi was not seen on the battlefield nor in any danger. Chin died cause he didn't move cause he dumb. She does mention if he kept going she'd kill him, maybe because Rangi could be hurt?🤔)

Rangi defends herself without Kyoshi's help? No deaths. If Rangi is safe? No deaths. Rangi hurt (mentally or physically)? Deaths. Kuruk is also fine with this mentality. It all ties back to Rangi.

I see you are looking at this curious device. It is our glassbox of disturbing events, our container of horrors, our enclosure of personal shortcomings. Made of tempered glass, it is optimized for looking at and showing off the horrors without having to touch them.

Look! an alcoholic father. But see! now he's dead. Guilt! Rage! Addiction! Fear! Infidelity! Doubt! Abuse! Politics! History! All of the world events! How handy it is, to have such a safe and accessible space to store all those things. Imagine having to live with them, all of the time. My, what a charmingly farcical idea.

Now, if you touch the glass, you can feel a pulsation, see? That is our heartbeat. For reasons we cannot yet explain, removing all these emotions from our day-to-day consciousness doesn't actually seem to disconnect them from the physical reality that manifests as our body. Sometimes we get earthquakes because of it, which is quite regrettable. Heart palpitations. Full-body tremors. Difficulty with focus and memory. Nausea. The likes. Oftentimes it is impossible to say which of these horrors is the culprit.

Scientists are tirelessly working on this minor hiccup. In the meanwhile, we keep a close watch on the glass lest it cracks.

It feels like every other week, someone makes a post, lamenting that the fic writers for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel missed the point of the show and we focus too much on the Midge x Lenny romance and not enough on Susie/Midge or Midge's success without a man.

And I feel like I need those people to understand that if we've missed those big points (we haven't. It's just that Midge x Lenny are fun and real life is hard and this is a hobby), then they have maybe missed the other big points of the last season:

1. Midge failed in every aspect of her life but comedy. Sophie was a cautionary tale she did not heed. "All Alone" was a cautionary tale turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy. She drove her children away, which means it is unlikely she has a close relationship with her grandchildren. Her best friend is 3000 miles away. She has a string of failed marriages. She has celebrity "friends" who likely don't know her as a real person.

Midge has comedy and a half-hour phone call with Susie every day. That's not a happy ending. For a woman that so valued connection and family for the whole series, that's fucking sad. If she had ever expressed a desire to be alone, it wouldn't be. We know it's not what she wanted. It's sad.

2. The season 5 flashforwards are, largely, about unexplored, unacknowledged grief, and the narrative tries to make it seem like no big deals. Lenny dies in '66. Rose dies in 'in the mid-70's. She loses Abe, and likely Noah. Moishe and Shirley. Joel dies in '04. Again, she drove her kids away, whom she did love and tried hard for even if she wasn't mother of the year. We dont get to explore her falling out with Susie in any real way and the grief in that. The grief of so much failed love. We never get to explore any of those things with Midge. The narrative intoduces these ideas and then moves on, asking us to shrug those things off, but how do we do that? Surely Midge wouldn't, and didn't, but we're asked to just keep it moving, as if these things don't deserve more time.

Instead, we get to see a whole season of boring late night drivel along with these underdeveloped snippets of future we're asked to shrug off because "Midge did it!! She doesn't need a man!!!!!!"

And in the meantime, she ends the series with...nobody. nothing but Susie's disembodied voice over the phone.

And if the entire point of the show was for Midge to end it lonely in her fame, what the hell was all of it for?

You know what? If they were hellbent on making the Devil May Cry adaptation the way they did, there was a simpler and infinitely more interesting way of going about it:

Change absolutely nothing about the source material except... make Arkham a Kenneth Copeland-level pastor of a sprawling and ridiculously wealthy megachurch. That is literally all they had to do. The rest of the story and plot would have been just fine.

Bonus points for Lady running away from him and him on the television 'mourning' for his kid every Sunday mid-morning service. Hell, you can even have him take the White Rabbit guy and have a hand in him becoming what he is by adopting him and promptly fucking him up before Lady was even born.

They should have had me in that writing room. Trust, this scenario would have been better than the Buzzfeed politics we got.
