i literally cant stop thinkin’ about highschoolbully!gojo who used to be your ride or die ‘til he started getting attention from those popular jock type guys who are always assholes to everyone. and him being.. well, him means he preens under attention no matter who it’s from, so naturally he started to gravitate towards that group and their little troop of cheerleading fangirls. and then he started distancing from you and without either of you really realizing it, you’ve slipped between the other’s fingers. but the way he acts towards you makes you think he let you fall without moving a muscle to slow you down.
soon enough, a year swings by and by the end of it he’s gone from your life, save as just another face in the gaggle of boys who make crude jokes and laugh at smart kids and pop milk cartoons during lunch just for the hell of it. but you’re minding your own business, ‘cause you’re mature enough to realize that people come and go, no matter how close you might’ve been and you think it’s unfortunate that so many memories could be thrown aside in a blink of an eye, but it makes a lot of sense when you walk past satoru and his friends bullying some random kid. you don’t know him, but you’ve heard enough to realize it’s his girlfriend satoru’s flirting with while his ‘gang’ kick at the kid. and it’s sickening, but you don’t say anything when you walk by.
and when you don’t ever see the kid afterward and catch the dark eyebags under his girlfriend’s eyes, you come to the cruel realization that satoru isn’t the boy who’d bandage the scrape on your knee you got from tripping in the playground or buy you a soda because he’s noticed your sweat when you were walking home and you don’t have any money left on you.
it’s a glass half empty, half full type of situation. on the one hand, you don’t have him anymore. on the other hand, you don’t have him anymore. that is, you lost your best friend, but you’ve also lost someone who has the potential to absolutely ruin your life. and you don’t know whether to be glad or not, so you just mind your own business even if it hurts a little when he ignores you, stops tossing paper at your head in class (unless it’s to embarrass you) and stops walking you to and from school.
but the cherry on top of the shit cake is that he doesn't get it. so when he approaches you in the library one day after satiating the need to tear pages from books and make them into paper airplanes to throw at people, he doesn't seem to understand why you try to ignore him, or put off his attempts to hold a convo. but the worst part is that he's just sleazy and clueless about it. it's like he took an eraser and wiped every single year of your friendship off the chalkboard with one fell swipe, and you wish he'd done that too to the less-than-appropriate messages he and his friends had written towards one of your classmates.
he doesn't understand why you're hesitant to talk, and that's what makes it the worst. he always thinks he's in the right, and he keeps setting you off and it sucks that he knows exactly what sets you off. "i'm an asshole? what're you talking about? really, you're in over your head. you never change." he laughs, and you ignore him, and he gets bored, and he's about to leave when he spots your wallet open next to your book, on the table. there's a polaroid peeking out, and he recognizes the tufts of white hair to be him. but there's a weird feeling in his chest, and he thinks he gets it from you, so he leaves because he thinks you're weird.
and it goes on; you practically become a nobody in satoru's eyes, because of that weird, weird feeling you give him. it's unfamiliar and he's never gotten it before and he doesn't like it. but it's unavoidable when your professor pairs you two for the end-of-term project. and of course, you're ready to do all the work, because that's how it always was between you when you were kids. but sometimes he'd surprise you by helping, and he'd show you that he was actually intelligent just to earn your praise because he liked it. but he ignored you, and you did everything, and it would've been okay if not for his friends egging him on to present your entire project when the day came and leave you with no content for a grade.
that's the first time it hits him: does he really want to do that? but it's not like it'll be the first time; you've always taken the hits for him, because you're naturally smart and you'll pick yourself back up in no time, and you get why he does it, so it'll be okay. so he agrees, and he enjoys the time he gets to spend with you through it, but the nagging weird feeling that blooms in his chest like a pesky weed only grows stronger. that's all his feelings ever seem to do around you.
but before you know it, presentation day swings around. you had coffee this morning (on his card), and you're ready enough to shoot him a small smile that sends his heart a-flutter. so you go up, feeling up to the task and ready until— he starts talking, and talking, and talking, and people don't think that he's taking your words out of your mouth because he's intelligent when he wants to make you praise him and you don't get the chance to get a word in and you notice the guys are laughing and hitting each other's shoulders to themselves in the upper rows and before you know it it's over. people are clapping but moreso they're looking at you and they're whispering— but it's terribly loud and they don't bother to hide it. they call you things that shouldn't bother you but they do anyway, because it's satoru's fault, and you're such a fool for thinking you could have it your way again.
so you leave class early, excusing yourself and ignoring the way your professor gives you a distasteful look and scribbles something next to your name. you're out the door in a second, neglecting your bags and satoru's a little lost because— didn't he just do good? people were clapping, and laughing with him and not at him, but it's attention either way so he doesn't mind. so why do you? why did you look at him like he stabbed you in the back? and his friends are calling his name, and he wishes he could chase after you and do something but he doesn't.
and it's a little sickening what they do next; one of their girls grabbed your bags and tossed it to them, and they've started rifling through it as if they own it, tearing up your shit and dumping everything onto the ground and he's kind of just... glued to the chair by his feelings. his heart feels like it's been patched together and the weird fuzzy feeling he had in his chest that's been cultivating has extinguished to be replaced with something he realizes he's only ever felt when it comes to you— guilt.
he's so lost in his thoughts that he doesn't realize his friend is silently offering him something— nudging his side to get his attention. he takes it without really realizing he moved his hand, and his silent friend with the gauges in his ears and the dark hair gets up and leaves without another word. when satoru looks down, he realizes he's been given your wallet. "the reward for betraying your baby," they call it. like all you're worth is the money in your account.
he's a little curious. that's how he's always been; asking you questions, rummaging through your stuff, laughing sheepishly and shaking it off when you caught him red-handed. so he opens it up, ignoring your sad little cards and the funny look on your license. he's looking for something, subconsciously; but he doesn't find it. there's no white tuft of hair to suggest his presence in your life; just empty black leather. nothing else.
and he doesn't see you after. or the following day. or the following weeks; weeks that turn into months that turn into the end of school and he's graduating but you're not by his side. and neither are his so called 'friends'; the only thing he has to their name is your own ruined friendship. it's a shame; he feels alone. very alone. no fuzzy weird feeling, not even that thing people call guilt. no attention to chase, and connections are ever harder to make. it shouldn'tve mattered that much, right? it was just a presentation. why wouldn't you just come back to him like you always did? were you not still friends...?
but the blood is still on his hands, and he doesn't manage to ever wash it off. guilt has a way of festering; of weighing on the heart 'till there's nothing left to feel or think but unfortunate circumstance and what could've been done differently. it just sucks that he never tried hard enough to keep you from slipping between his grasp. and now, he doesn't even have a polaroid to your friendship's name.

Any of the boys you want do a challenge where (they aren't dating yet) but they are at a fair and they win a bear or a prize and s/o gives them a kiss on the cheek for how many they win and s/o says if they win 10 or more they will give them a kiss on the lips and spend a week together with just them (maybe show like if some did get the kiss and how they would react?) I thought this was cute lol
This has been sitting in my drafts for like a year so I just figured I would post the parts of it that were done.
Leave it to Crowley and Grim to get you into this situation. “Every dorm has to have a booth at the fair, prefect! Maybe you’ll even earn enough money to make some renovations to that shoddy old place!”
Crowley failed to take into consideration how making a carnival attraction costs money to be any good. Any cafe service would need more money and supplies than you could afford, a show would need more than two people, and a game would need prizes.
Grim is not one for bright ideas, but it would seem there was no other solution that wouldn’t cost all your food money for the month. So this is what it came to.
“Knock down all the pins and win a kiss on the cheek from Ramshackle’s prefect! Hit all three targets and he’ll give you a kiss on the lips!!!!”
It was probably in your top five most embarrassing moments of your life as your cat basically prostituted you at the top of his lungs. Surely no one would actually be enticed by a prize like that, right?
Trey
"You always manage to find a way to keep things interesting, don't you? For once I'm glad to be at a school mandated event."
Feels bad. Plays anyway.
No hard feelings, right?
He tells you that you have nothing to worry about, he's really a lousy shot anyway (as if he's not the best spelldrive player on Heartslabyul)
He easily knocks down the first two stacks, but misses the third
Maybe he missed, maybe he found it in his heart to show you mercy
He not-so-subtly implies that he's sure he could find a different way to win the "grand prize"
Despite his big talk, he still has a noticeable blush when you give him a kiss on the cheek
He would also keep an eye on your booth for the rest of the day to make sure not too many people are winning
For your sake, of course
Jade
“It would seem you’ve found yourself in quite the situation there, prefect. Please find it in your heart to forgive me if I take advantage.”
This is the funniest shit Jade has ever seen
How stupid do you honestly have to be to get yourself into this predicament?
Of course he’s playing the game. The scowl on your face when he trades in his tickets to Grim for three baseballs fills him with unbridled delight
His aim is a little wonky and you sigh in relief when his first three balls miss the target
He feigns disappointment before handing over another few tickets to the cat and grabbing the balls again
Of course he was hustling you. He let you think that even for a second you would be safe from this menace. For shame
Each ball is thrown with such force that pins from the first stack fly into the other stacks, easily ensuring that Jade clears the game with ease
He calls it beginners luck. Asshole.
Has the biggest shit eating grin on his face as he leans down to your face to claim his prize
Rook
"Mon amour, what a dastardly situation you've been resigned to! Not to worry sweet dame, I shall save you from the beasts at your heels!"
You knew you were in trouble the minute Rook’s gaze happened to fall on your stall
His eyes narrow and he smirks as he makes his way over to the stall
He's visibly holding back his excitement as he trades his tickets in to Grim
His idea of "saving you" is to hog the game- and the prize- for himself
He hits every stack with effortless accuracy, game after game
The second all three stacks have been knocked down, he prances over to you and leans down for his kiss. You can practically see the flower emojis radiating off his satisfied smile
This will continue until Grim gets fed up with him scaring away customers, or Vil comes to drag him away
You got so used to kissing him that you almost do it again the next time he leans down to talk to you

The Boy Is Mine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miles Morales x Black Fem Spider-person Reader v Gwen Stacy.
Summary: He saved you and She didn’t want to and maybe she was right because the boy is now yours.
WARNINGS: Fighting, bad words, I think that’s it.
A/n: I was tied!!! Of seeing Miles cheat with Gwen so I took matters into my own hands. This is probably one of the best stories I’ve ever written too so don’t skip. I had so much fun writing this.
Tumblr media
For the past 2 years, you've been the one and only Spider-woman. Everyone knows the story by now, bitten by a radioactive spider, and now you spend your time protecting the city. Everything was going great. Or that's what you wanted to believe as you fought Wilson Fisk, a person who is supposed to be behind bars. This Wilson was different - bigger, stronger, he was giving you a run for your money.
"What have they been feeding you at the Raft, Willie?" You quipped as you dodged a punch. "Haha, missed me," you said, landing a punch combo to his jaw.
"You stupid spiders are always in the way," he said, managing to catch you off guard, knocking you back. This fight is definitely gonna take a while.
"Who are you anyway, where's Spider-Man?" Fisk asked, walking menacingly toward you as you lay on the floor to catch a breath.
"I don't get paid enough for this," you said, getting up, squaring up with the large man.
Spider-Man, what are you talking about, Fisk?" You asked the man leaping backwards, dodging all of his hits.
"Enough of this talk, this ends now," Fisk said, running toward you. You charged back, your fist balled, about to strike, but he dodged and caught you by your throat.
"Another spider under my belt," Fisk said, laughing as he squeezed your throat. Gasping for air, you tried your best to break free from his grip, but your vision began to fade out. Your strength left you, and your eyes began to close. All you wanted to do was sleep, but you blinked your eyes again. Maybe you were hallucinating from the lack of oxygen, but a portal with glowing lights appeared, and two other spider personas flew forward, knocking Fisk out. You dropped to the floor, gasping for air, but still fainted in the process.
You probably weren't out for long, but you heard faint voices, a female and a male.
"What do we do, Gwen? We can't just leave her here."
"Miles, what are we supposed to do? We can't take her back to HQ."
You were too weak to actually open your eyes to see who was talking. Too weak to stop them from kidnapping you and taking you to wherever HQ was. You tried to let out a small groan, but it was useless.
"That's exactly what we need to do, Gwen. She needs medical care."
"Ughhh.... Fine, you grab her."
You heard footsteps move towards you, and your body being lifted before you succumbed to the darkness around you again.
✨HQ✨
Your bloodshot eyes shot open as you sat up, feeling around for your mask that wasn't on your face. You heard the fast-paced beeping of a heart monitor, letting you know your heart rate was up as you ripped all the pads off of you, standing ready to leave the room before two people came walking inside. You immediately got in defense mode as you studied them - an older man in a blue suit with a spider on the front, and a younger boy about your age in a black suit, also with a spider on the front.
"Where the fuck am I, and who are you?" you said, pointing.
"Welcome to HQ, Spiderwoman. I'm Spider-Man, and he's Spider-Man. Glad you survived. Miles, I'll leave you to it," the older man in the blue suit said, walking away.
Miles walked closer to you, setting off your spider senses. You closed one of your eyes, moving your head to the side, resting your hand on your head. "Don't come any closer," you said.
You're probably not used to that, but you're like me, it does that sometimes. I'm Miles.
"Yeah, I got that from earlier," you said, flopping back on the hospital cot, still very much in pain.
Miles wasn't in the room when they took off your mask, so this was the first time he saw your face. He scanned every detail of your face, taking in the way your plump lips formed into a natural pout, or maybe that was just because you were in pain. The way your brown eyes sparkled under the bright white light, he couldn't help but be captivated by your gaze. He loved your braids and the way your pink beads rattled every time you moved.
Miles felt something stir in the pit of his stomach the longer he looked at you. Maybe it was just gas from the spicy food he ate earlier, he thought, in denial of the growing attraction he felt for a stranger.
"Well, aren't you gonna tell me your name?" Miles finally mustered the courage to ask.
You turned to face him, the pain momentarily forgotten as you observed his silly smirk. You weren't usually the friendliest person, but there was something about Miles that felt different, something that made you want to open up.
"I'm Y/n," you replied, a small smile tugging at the corner of your lips.
Nice to meet you Y/n," Miles said, offering his hand. You looked at it. "I'd shake your hand, but I'm in too much pain right now," you said, causing both of you to laugh. There it was, that fluttering feeling in the pit of Miles' stomach again as he watched a beautiful smile grace your face.
"So, what is this place and why am I here?" you asked Miles, curiosity shining in your eyes. "This is the Spider Society. We brought you here because you were in bad shape from fighting Fisk," Miles explained. You coughed a bit. "Yup, he whooped my ass," you said, making both you and Miles burst into laughter again.
Unbeknownst to the two of you, Gwen stood outside the door, her eyes fixed on the scene unfolding inside. With each word you said to Miles, with each chuckle you elicited from him, the flames of jealousy ignited within her. Unable to bear it any longer, she burst into the room, startling both you and Miles.
"What the fuck? You didn't even have to do all that, shawty," You exclaimed. Miles stood up, a look of surprise on his face. "Gwen, this is Y/n, Spider-woman, the one we helped," he explained, pointing toward you.
"Oh, hi. I'm glad you're okay," Gwen said, her words laced with a hint of insincerity.
This your girl Miles ?" You asked.
"No, no." They both said in unison dragging their o's. It was obvious to you that there was more to the story by the way she busted into the room but that was none of your business.
"Well, it was nice to meet you, Y/n. We should get going," Gwen said, gently tugging Miles towards the door.
Before leaving, Miles tossed you a watch that you effortlessly caught. "Maybe we can see each other again," he said, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. You smiled, watching him walk away.
"Hmmm," you hummed, examining the watch before clasping it onto your wrist. "Maybe we will, Spider-Man."
As Gwen and Miles made their way through the headquarters, Miles couldn't ignore Gwen's evident distress. He studied her face and body language. He called out to her, "Gwen?"
Getting no response, Miles tried a sing-songy voice, calling her name once more. "What, Miles?" she replied, her voice tinged with bitterness.
"I know you're upset. Do you want to talk or not?" Miles asked, genuinely wanting to understand what was bothering her.
"Why don't you go talk to Y/n?"
"Gwen, are you serious? I barely know her, but she's a cool girl," Miles defended, trying to reassure her.
"Oh, she's cool now?" Gwen's tone dripped with sarcasm and doubt.
Miles gently reached for Gwen's hand, stopping her in her tracks, making her face him directly. "Look, Gwen, you don't have to worry about her, okay?" he said softly.
Gwen's expression softened, and she nodded, a flicker of trust returning to her eyes. "Alright, Miles. She said giving him a small punch to the shoulder.
✨The Mission✨
You were back in your dimension 2 days post fight with Fisk feeling good as new. You were in bed, examining the watch Miles gave you, when a hologram of a woman appeared, making you scream.
"Oh hey there new recruit, I'm Lyla," she said, waving.
"Hi... Lyla," you said slowly, waving back.
"Sorry to scare you, but the boss needs you at HQ, your first mission... Yayyyy, so suit up," she said before disappearing.
"Uh, okay," you said, slipping into your skintight suit and mask, slapping on your watch, struggling to find out how to get it to work because no one gave you a tutorial. But you managed using your genius brain and stepped through the portal, gracefully landing in a dark room with monitors.
"Great, you're here......Miles!" the man you were familiar with but never got his name called out.
From the shadows, Miles emerged with a smile on his face. "Good to see you again, Mamita," he said.
"Oh, we're using pet names now?" you said, matching his flirty energy.
"That's enough," Miguel said as he stood before you two. "Anomaly in Earth 746, catch it."
"Anomaly?" you questioned.
"I'll tell you all about it later," Miles said, grabbing your hand, opening a portal, and pulling you through.
You dusted off your hands. The mission went well, a little too well, especially for a Goblin mission.
"You're pretty good, Miles."
"You too, Mamita. Gotta say, I doubted you a little after the Fisk fight," he teased.
"Oh, whatever," you said, rolling your eyes, chuckling a bit.
You moved closer to Miles, mere inches between you two, as you ran your fingers along his jawline.
Miles' breath hitched as you touched him, his hazel eyes expressing the tension between you two. There was no denying that Miles was handsome, and you were eager to learn more about him.
"So what dimension are you from, Papa?" you asked playfully, a flirtatious smile gracing your lips.
"1610. Maybe we could go there?" Miles responded, his voice filled with anticipation.
"Take a girl on a date first, Miles," you laughed, teasing him gently.
"No, I didn't mean it like that. I..." Miles stammered, trying to explain himself.
"I would love to see your dimension, Miles," you interrupted, cutting him off.
And so, Miles took you to his dimension.
"This is Brooklyn." Miles said as you two stood atop the Williamsburg Bank building, you marveled at the city below. It was similar to your own home, yet distinctly different. Miles watched in awe as your eyes sparkled at the city, feeling a flutter in his stomach.
"It's beautiful, Miles," you whispered, taking a seat to soak in the view.
He walked forward and sat beside you, his face beaming with joy. You turned towards him, a warm smile on your lips.
"So, what's your story, big head?" you asked, playfully leaning on him.
"My story?" Miles responded, a hint of surprise in his voice.
"You're Spider-Man, Miles. What's your origin?" you asked , curious him.
"You know, regular Spider-Man stuff. I gained my powers and now I fight bad guys," Miles answered, a humble tone in his voice.
"That's not what I meant," you said, giving him a small shove. "What's the real story? I was bitten by a radioactive spider too, two years ago on a field trip to Oscorp. Your world doesn't seem to have Oscorp." You sighed, frustration and sadness mixing in your voice. "I got these crazy powers that I didn't know what to do with, so I decided to keep them a secret and pretend that I was a regular kid."
The weight of your words hung heavy in the air as you choked up, memories flooding back. Miles noticed your distress and perked up. "It's okay, you don't have to share if you don't want to," he said, trying to comfort you.
But something compelled you to open up, to let go of the burden you had been carrying alone for so long. You rested your hand gently on top of his. "I pretended to be some regular kid, and that led to me losing my mom. And from then on, I decided to help everyone else," you finished.
Miles's heart stung as he listened to your story. "I lost someone close to me too, my uncle Aaron. He was shot saving me," he shared, the pain evident in his voice.
A sense of understanding and connection washed over you both. You leaned your head on his shoulder. "See, that's your story, Papa," you said softly, appreciating the bond that formed between you. "You know, Miles, it's so nice to have someone to talk about this stuff with now," you added, gazing at the sun setting on the horizon.
That moment solidified your blooming relationship with Miles. Whenever you had free time, you would pop into his dimension, and vice versa. Now, in your suit, you found yourself in dimension 1610, patiently waiting for Miles to catch up as you swung through the bustling city.
"Keep up, Miles," you teased, a mischievous glint in your eyes as you effortlessly jumped from building to building, landing with grace. The two of you were headed back to his house, where Jeff and Rio, his parents, adored you and had grown fond to your presence after all the time you spent with Miles.
They couldn't wrap their head around the whole different dimension thing and just assumed Miles' imagination had run wild. You two walked through his front door.
"Hey Mama Rio," you greeted Miles' mom.
"Hey Mija."
"Hey Mom," Miles said, hugging his mom before the two of you walked into his room. You two were too caught up in conversation to notice a guest. Gwen. She cleared her throat, making you two snap your attention towards her.
"Gwen, hey," Miles said nervously. "What are you - what are you doing here?"
"I came to see you because I barely see you anymore, but now I know why," Gwen answered.
You snickered a bit, knowing you essentially snatched Miles from Gwen.
"Oh, that's funny?" Gwen asked.
You threw your hands up in surrender, not wanting to get into it with her.
"We were about to watch a movie, order some pizza. You can stay if you want," Miles offered to pacify Gwen, but he was hoping she'd turn it down. He cherished his alone time with you.
"No, it's fine, Miles. I'll leave," Gwen said with a hint of frustration in her voice.
"Uh, okay. Bye," Miles said
"Bye, Gwendolyn," you added, unable to hide the small smirk on your face.
Gwen turned to you and asked, "You know what, can we talk outside, Y/n?"
Rolling your eyes, you agreed, "Sure, why not?" You grabbed Miles' hand, signaling for him to come along.
"Alone," Gwen insisted, her tone unwavering.
"Okay... I'll be back, papa," you said to Miles, giving him a smile and a pat on the cheek.
As you followed Gwen out of the window and onto the roof, you could feel the tension building up. Once you reached a secluded corner, she turned to face you, arms folded.
"What is your problem?" she asked, her voice filled with accusation.
"Girl, what are you talking about?" you answered defensively.
"Miles," she replied, her tone laced with frustration.
"What about him? He's fine, great even," you said, walking closer to her.
"Don't play dumb, Y/n," Gwen snapped.
"What are you getting at, Gwen?" you said, your tone becoming pointed as you grew tired of the conversation.
"He's mine, Y/n, and you're trying to steal him away," her voice filled with possessiveness.
You couldn't help but burst into laughter. "Yours?" you asked, shaking your head. "Gwen, you lost him the day you two saved me."
As the words left your mouth, the truth hung heavy in the air. Gwen had been holding onto her feelings for Miles while pretending everything was okay. But deep down, she knew that the connection between you and Miles was undeniable.
What you didn't see coming was a slap across your face from Gwen, not thinking she was bold enough to do it. The sting of her actions lingered in the air as shock resonated through your entire being. And what Gwen didn't see was Miles, camouflaged and watching you two from a distance. He didn't hear anything you two talked about, but he sure did see the slap.
As the pain subsided, you didn't retaliate. Deep down, you and Gwen both knew that you had won this battle, that Miles was now dedicated to you.
"Why would you do that, Gwen?" You heard a voice behind you, and turned to see Miles standing there, his eyes filled with disappointment.
You watched in satisfaction as Gwen's eyes widened, realizing that she had not only hurt you but also jeopardized her chances with Miles. She had unknowingly made it even easier for you to snatch his affection away from her.
"Miles, I..." Gwen stammered, unable to find the right words to justify her actions.
"Why would you hit her?" Miles asked, his voice filled with a mix of anger and hurt.
"You didn't hear what she said, Miles. She's trying to tear us apart. You were mine," Gwen spewed out, desperately clinging to her fading hopes.
"Yours? I'm not some object, Gwen," Miles retorted, his voice laced with disappointment. "Is that why you brought her outside? To hit her?"
A heavy silence hung in the air as Gwen struggled to find an explanation, her words failing her. The truth had been laid bare, and Miles saw her for who she truly was.
"Save it, Gwen," Miles said, his voice firm. "You just showed me the type of person you really are. I've been pining after you for months, and you always brushed me off. But now, now I have someone who actually likes me back."
With those words, he took your hand, intertwining your fingers with his.
You looked at Gwen, a smug look on your face as you squeezed Miles' hand tighter.
"You don't mean that, Miles."Gwen said.
"Yes, I do," Miles turned to you. "She likes me back, and she's the most caring, sweetest, funniest person in this dimension and every other," Miles said, making you tear up a bit, your lip bottom poking out.
"You're so cute when you do that," Miles said.
Gwen watched as her heart slowly broke. She had played with Miles, but now she had lost the game. She wanted to look away, but she couldn't. She should be the one he said all those things to. The tears pricked her eyes.
"Y/n, will you be my girlfriend?" The words echoed in Gwen's head, the final blow that made her tears roll down her face.
"Of course, I will, papa," you said, jumping on Miles and giving him a tight hug before pulling back and giving him a big kiss, your first one in front of his former crush.
You and Miles turned to Gwen, watching as she continued to cry.
"You should go, Gwen," you said, your heart aching a bit for the girl, but not a lot.
Miles grabbed your hand as the two of you walked off toward the stairwell, leaving Gwen behind.

König of the Icks (cont.)
I'm going to a buffet with friends today, so I have come to a horrifying realization. König had to go out into public spaces. Oh no.
Art from This Post
Tumblr media
König is an absolute menace in public spaces. Namely restaurants. It's so humiliating going to a restaurant with him
He eats so much that it becomes a public spectacle, which is awful because if you didn’t have social anxiety before, now you and König are now in the same boat
He really does feel bad, but he gets so hungry! You have to understand that he needs three meals and an appetizer. He does! Stop looking at him like that!
He gets to the point where he starts to try and hide his food from other customers because it makes him feel bad. Kids have commented on it while walking by. He feels absolutely humiliated by it. If he can, he’ll find a seat anywhere out of sight just to get some peace of mind.
The thing is he isn’t fat, so people are just amazed by him. He’s really not fat, I mean sure yeah he’s got some fat reserves but he’s not fat by any means. He’s just big. He’s so big and tall and he just has so much muscle, and then he works out so much? He really just eats a fuck ton. This is a man who regularly packs away 3000 calories.
You better be glad that he’s in a PMC because that’s the only way you guys can afford eating out. He’s a nightmare. This is a man to run up $100 at a McDonalds. He’s their favourite customer, and he knows and he hates it so much.
He gets a lot of coupons and he hates it. He racks up points so quickly that frankly it’s horrifying. You go out one night, cash out your points, and the next time you go out there’s more points to be cashed. You’re not saving money, he’s just hungry
So, the thing about König being a big eater is that he’s banned from so many buffets. The only ones he isn’t banned from are the ones that he has purposefully made friends with the owners to ensure a safe seat. He will battle his social anxiety for the sole purpose of making sure you don’t face the humiliation of being kicked out because your husband eats too much.
He’ll do it for you.
When König has to deal with other public spaces, he’s still a nightmare. He gets so awkward and anxious, but because he has an image to keep up he won’t tell you that anything’s wrong. He’s the type of guy who can have a panic attack in public and nobody will notice. It’s impressive, but it’s not healthy
You have to learn how to talk for him and make requests on his behalf. If he needs to find shoes from the back in his size, you’re asking for them. If he needs to use the washroom, you’re asking where it is. He won’t give you any support in this. He’ll watch you flail and won’t do a damned thing. Sorry, but he’s too anxious to help
He’s a strange creature in public. He’s so anxious that he just exudes an aura of intimidation and rage. Something about how he walks quickly sets people on edge. The way he stares without blinking frightens people. He’s almost always wearing a sort of face mask, so that doesn’t help either.
Before you, he was going out in public with the full mask every single time. Every. Single. Time.
Speaking of the mask, that thing is nasty
You have to pry it off of him to be able to throw it into the wash. He hasn’t washed it in ages because he only has one mask and the way to the laundry on base was through a public hallway so he never felt like he could make the trip back without the mask.
His mask has an actual smell to it. It reeks of sweat and grease. It’s absolutely disgusting. If you look close, the black cloth is covered in stains. Some of them have some horrible origins. They’re just vile.
Trying to get König to clean the mask is an uphill battle every single time. He gets worried that when it’s in the wash or dryer, he’ll have to make an impromptu trip out into public. You tell him to get a second mask, but he’s strangely attached to his current one. It’s almost like Linus from Peanuts and his blanket. You just can’t separate them.
He gets so fussy about face masks. When you finally convince him to start using some different masks, he gets quite attached to those as well. Unfortunately, this also means he doesn’t like the backup masks being thrown in the wash, and don’t you dare tell him to use disposable because he’ll throw a fit about it.
König is a bit of an ecowarrior in all the weirdest ways. He won’t be explicit about it, but you’ll notice some traits here and there and you’ll pretty quickly put the picture together.
He was a nature kid, as mentioned in this post, so yeah he’s totally into nature stuff. This also means he became much more protective of the environment than most
This means he carries a litter bag and some plastic gloves at all times, and yes he’ll pick up the most disgusting vile things off the ground without a second thought
Sometimes he’ll tease you with it, which is absolutely disgusting
He takes timed showers, and this includes when he showers with you. No sexy showers unless you ask for them.
He is conscious of always trying to use biodegradable products if he can, or sustainably produced
This also means he complains about the cost all the time even though there’s cheaper solutions right there
The one time König will forget his social anxiety is when he sees somebody litter. God help both the litterer and you when he spots it happening.
He will walk up (and remember he walks uncomfortably fast so he looks far more aggressive than he is) and grab the litter before shoving it back into the poor idiot's hands. He’ll then go on a rant about keeping spaces clean and how they’re the reason that public spaces look ugly
He doesn’t realize that he’s probably terrifying the poor person as he goes off, so there’s no way they’re gonna get anything out of this. They’re not going to learn, König is literally just wasting his breath
He will go off until you call him back as subtly as you can. This will usually take a couple of attempts
Some people try to get up in his face, but that doesn’t usually last long. Unfortunately, it does cause a massive scene that König won’t notice until afterwards and then he’ll feel terrible
This means you have to cheer him up after. Good luck.

I have a question about how Haibara killed Greeny. I'm sure he must have spent time arguing with Greeny about a quick and non-painful way, but still wondering if it was really necessary. Sounds tragically comical, my poor sunshine boy.
im so glad someone asked-
"Absolutely not."
"You're not even listening to me-"
"No."
Yu's in front of you, an uncharacteristic frown on his lips. It's one of the few times he actually looks his age. You feel like you're 15 years old again, standing in front of a stern teacher.
There's still cheery chatter thought the restaurant. No one's noticed the dark gloom hovering over your table. You preferred it. Less eyes.
"Listen, I know it sounds crazy." You start. "But I've done this before. I'm an expert at this."
"Do you even hear yourself?" Yu's hissing back. "You're talking about killing yourself. About me killing you. That's-that's fucking ridiculous I'm not-"
His voice wavers, then hardens all over again. He's pushing himself up, throwing some money on the table.
"You live far from here?" He asks.
"No."
"Good. I'm walking you home." He says, voice curt.
The walk is quiet. Just you and him and the chilly December night. When you peak over, Haibara's lips are set in a hard line.
"Is this what you and Suguru did?" He asks quietly. "In the other timeline?"
You think back to Geto's beady eyes. That twisted smile.
"It was an accident, in the other timeline." You speak. He says nothing to that.
"Yu." You swallow. "I know what I'm asking you to do here."
"I don't think you do," He says back, "I'm a sorcerer, Greeny. I save people. I-I don't...I don't do this."
He sounds like all those years ago. When you were the older one, looking down at him in amusement. It makes your heart break.
You're making him go against everything he's fought for, bled for.
"I know that," you say, "I know that, but I can't just leave him behind. I want to save him, don't you?"
That makes him stop. He stares hard at the ground.
"You're being unfair." He laughs. It sounds wet in his throat.
You bring him to your home. It's quiet. You feel like you haven't been in here for decades. But everything's just as you left it. Yu's quiet all the way.
"Whenever you're ready." You tell him.
He flinches like you've shot him. You try to smile.
"If it makes you feel better, you won't remember it," you say.
He shakes his head.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be." You start.
"I am," Yu says, "I should've...I should stop myself, but I'm not. I shouldn't do this. I shouldn't choose Satoru over you."
He's crying. Salty tears dripping over scarred cheeks. You think he wants to remember this guilt, choosing to save one of his dearest friends over the person who saved his life.
"You're not a hero." It's a fact, the truth. "You're a jujutsu sorcerer."
He's quiet. His tears fade, wiped away with his fingers.
"And you aren't a jujutsu sorcerer." In that moment, you think Haibara Yu is the closest anyone has ever gotten in understand you.
"You'll save him?" He asks, voice quiet.
There's no hesitation. You make your second promise.
"I will."
This time, there's nothing to forgive.

Everyone's comm beeps in their ear, drawing their attention. "Kon, Jon, Cassie, and Bart all know now. I'm bribing them with the footage of Phase One." Tim's voice says. Their comms beep again and the line goes silent.
Dick sighs. Yeah, that checks. Honestly, he's surprised those four hadn't been told way earlier than now.
"What's wrong?" Wally asks from beside him.
"Nothing," ha answers. He finishes the drink in his hand in one go.
Wally snorts softly. "Yeah, sure. I assume someone's blown it?"
"Tim and Dami. Both Superboy's, Wonder Girl, and Impulse all know now."
"Our Wonder Girl?"
"Tim's.
"Ah." A beat. "The problem?"
"No problem. Though, B might say something."
"I thought he was all for telling the teams?"
"He is! This was all his idea! But Tim's bribing the other four with the footage of the Cave."
"You mean the footage that I haven't seen yet?"
"Yep."
"Then what are we waiting for?" Wally grabs his hand, "Let's go get Donna and go watch!"
Dick sighs again and goes along. He clicks his own comm on and says, "Me, Wally, and Donna are gonna come watch, too. Wally insists."
Damian's voice comes next. "Since when does Troy know?"
"Probably since I told her and Wally."
"What?" Steph's voice whines, "You've had two people know for so long?"
Before he can respond, Barbra hisses, "Hey! This is supposed to be a distraction free line, guys."
Jason snorts, "Me, Roy, Lian, and Duke are on our way, too. You girls should come watch; we'll make a party out of it."
"Good idea," Cass says.
Dick can see Bruce on the other side of the room, unable to react to a thing that's being said in his ear. Ha!
***
Bruce watched his kids all leave the room. He's glad that their teams know, though why did they have to let it slip while the party was still going on? Oh, well, nothing to do about it now. Especially because Oliver's agreed to give a speech.
"Ollie, dear, it's time for your speech now, isn't it?"
"Ah, yes." Oliver says, light pink dusting his cheeks at the address Bruce had been using since they were in high school. He made his way to the stage, the band quieting as he took the podium. "If I may have everyone's attention for just a moment?"
Great start, Ollie.
"Like all of you, the invitation to this gala tonight came as a surprise. A welcome one, but a surprise nonetheless. Now, I won't keep your attention for long, but, on behalf of Bruce, I'd like to thank everyone for coming tonight. This Gala tonight, Charity for Justice, is a fantastic way for us to give back to the people who work so hard to save us. And it's not just the Justice League; Doctors, Teachers, Veterans, et cetera. They're all heroes who deserve all the help we can give them. Being here tonight, while it may seem superficial, is a step in the right direction to helping the heroes of the world. Now, I don't know how Bruce is going to get this money to the Justice League, but I'm not one to questions his ways or his motivations. He's been a friend of mine since we were in high school, and I trust him with my life. Thank you, Bruce, for hosting tonight; And thank you all for coming and donating." Nodding to the audience, Oliver walked from the stage as they clapped.
Bruce smiled at Oliver as they met at the bottom of the stairs leading to the stage. "Thanks, Ollie. I didn't know you trusted me so much."
Oliver matched his smile. "'Course I do, Brucie! And what you're doing tonight is really good. I might just have to steal this idea from you."
Laughing, Bruce patted Oliver's shoulder before taking his place on the stage. "Thanks, Oliver, for speaking tonight. I know it was last minute, but you did great." The crowd chuckled a bit as Oliver raised the glass he now held. "At the risk of sounding like a broken record, thanks again, everyone, for coming here tonight. I know a lot of you are far from home, but it means a lot that you made the trip out.
"Admittedly, this entire gala was a spur of the moment decision. My kids, actually, came up with the idea, so if you're going to thank anyone, it should be them. They did everything on their own while sat back and let them do their thing.
"When you think of heroes, you're most likely to think of the Justice League and their sidekicks. But, who were the heroes before the Justice League was founded? Perseus, Heracles, Aeneas, Remus, Romulus, Vldar, Ragnar Lodbrok, Hua Mulan, Guan Yu. All of them were warriors. But, does combat make a hero? I don't think so. I think the thing that makes a hero is the willingness to help; the willingness to give even if you have nothing to give; the willingness to do what it takes to make sure someone gets to live even just a little bit longer.
"Oxford dictionary defines the word 'hero' as "a person who is admired or idealized for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities". While I agree, I think that this is a much too niche definition. After all, I've met hundreds of people who I would consider heroes, heard thousands more stories- and not one of them has been 'admired' or 'idealised' for it.
"Tonight, I've asked for donations from each of you. All of the money will be going towards helping the heroes of the world; those who are recognised as such, those who aren't, and everyone in between. Every donation made will be matched by not only myself, but Wayne Industries as well. Then, all the money will be anonymously give to the heroes of every city represented here.
"Again, I'm so glad everyone could make it tonight, and I'm beyond glad that you've all be generous enough to help our heroes. Please enjoy the rest of your evening." The applause was loud as he walked off stage, the music picking up softly before crescendoing as the crowd began talking again.
The comm in his ear clicked just before Barbra started speaking. "That was a good speech, B. Brought some of us to tears."
He picked up a drink and sipped it as he spoke into his own comm piece. "You're watching the cameras?"
"Naturally," Damian said.
"We're all too comfortable to move," Tim explained, "So Bab's pulled the cameras up on the TV just as Oliver finished speaking."
"I've never heard Batman talk so much..." That was Bart Allen, clearly close enough to hear him over Tim's line, but not close enough to be intentional.
"Hell," Donna was probably sprawled across Dick and Wally, "I've never seen him express emotion and I knew who he was!"
Bruce hid a laugh and a smirk behind his drink. "Watch it, now."
There were a few squeaks as the comms all clicked off, Barbra taking care of his as well.
The ballroom was emptying, slower than he would like, but faster than expected. The kids (because that's what they are, no matter how old they may be) all trickled back into the ballroom, waving goodbye and joining their families as they went, though his own kept themselves near the door to say goodbye to everyone leaving. He decided to join them.
Just as Oliver, Dinah, Roy, and Lian were leaving, he stopped his old friend and pulled him aside.
Oliver's guard was still down, relaxed even as Bruce pulled him into a completely empty room and shut the door. He heard the click of a comm turning on, though no one spoke, so he could only assume it was his own.
"I was just about to head home; What's up, Bruce?"
"Oliver, there's something I need to tell you." This was gonna be so funny.
"Bruce?"
When had first started out, he knew that having the same voice in and out of costume would be a potentially detrimental mistake, so he'd dropped his voice as low as he dared and added the grit to it. Eventually, he'd gotten a voice changer, but he'd kept up the training to make sure he didn't damage his voice in case the voice changer ever broke.
Taking a deep breath, Bruce turned around and dropped his voice. "I'm Batman."

Chapter 1: You again
The breeze blows your hair, obscuring your vision from the boxes in the back of the moving van. The weather was nice here in the outer banks, different to what it felt like in New york. Moving here right when Spring is in bloom was the best decision. Back home it’s still cold, barely even warming up. But here it’s so beautiful. The waves from the water behind the house hit the dock, the lapping sound making its way to the front.
“Grandma is having a blast with Vi right now. I know she’s glad to have a baby in the house again.” Jo your best friend says as she walks into the van to grab another box. It was her idea to move her. Her grandma was getting older and she wanted to come take care of her. When she figured it all out she just handed you tickets, telling you that you weren’t going to stay there longer.
Without consulting you she had talked with her grandma to let you and your daughter Violet to move in with them. She wanted to get you as far away from New York as she could. Jo is the type of best friend that feels responsibility for her friends. It was that way when you were children and it got worse when you had your own child.
The moment you found out you were pregnant she was there to cry along with you. She was there in the delivery room when your precious little girl was born. Every step of your life has been with her, never allowing you to go through it alone. You couldn’t be more grateful to have her in your life.
“That’s good. I’m sure Vi is going to love being around her. Two peas in a pod probably.” You try to not get into your head as you pick up a box of Vi’s things. When you told your parents you were pregnant they weren’t happy. To be fair you were eighteen, fresh out of highschool. They tried to be supportive but couldn’t look past it when their friends from church started to talk.
They had kicked you out right before you gave birth, leaving you to be stranded. The father was a nightmare to say the least and that wasn’t an option for you. He was a mistake that you wish you could take back. A reminder of being what your family wanted to only be their disappointment. He seemed perfect to them but deep down he was a monster, no one you want around your baby to begin with.
The only option you had was Jo. Her family wasn’t like yours, they took you in with open arms. Embracing Violet as one of their own. Even though you lost your family that night they forced you out, you found another that loved you more. For two years it was perfect, Vi was growing up nicely, hitting all her milestones. You had a good job and had saved up enough money to move out on your own. Which was perfect timing since Jo was going to move here.
Then a week after she informed you of her decision you got a call from a lawyer. “Hello?” You answered. “Hi, I'm looking for.”  He says your name for clarification. “Yes, that's me.” You were confused on what this could be about. Worried that it was your ex. “I’m sorry to inform you that your parents passed away the other night in a car accident. The wake will be this week and the Will reading is after.” The shock of their death didn’t settle in fully until the reading.
They had left you everything, they had abandoned you yet they left you everything. The next few months of winter were filled with you selling their house and settling the bank information. Getting the move ready so you and Vi would be comfortable once in your new home. Leading to now, standing in front of the house that is yours.
Grandma June had a pretty house in a nice neighborhood. The backyard was big and the water was right behind. A complete contrast to what you had growing up. You grew up in a townhouse, Jo right next door. It may have been more room then a regular apartment but you still had little room. There was no backyard to play in, the only time you had outside was going to the park.
Your life, even if it may not have been bad, wasn't perfect either. Your parents preached religion and the bible until it was shoved down your throat. Telling you what you can’t and can’t do by the eyes of God. Introducing you to their friends' sons to meet the proper boy, look at where that got you. This move was a chance to continue to better yourself and give Vi the chance of being herself.
You set the box down in the room that is now Violets. June had moved herself to the guest house outback stating that she doesn’t need all of this space. She had given the deed to the two of you, gifting the home as a thank you for not sending her off to a home. That meant you all had your own rooms. Vi still tends to sleep with you so her room is more decoration.
“Who would have thought we would be here?” Jo’s voice says from the doorway. You turn to look at her. “Me a twenty-one year old with a two year old or that we moved out of New York.” She pounders for a moment, finger tapping her chin. “Hmm I was going to say us moving here but the toddler thing works too.” She laughs walking into the room more.
“We should paint the walls this week. Grams said there’s a paint store we can get it at. Should be near the shop.” You smile at her as you both go to get more boxes. Before moving here you wanted a stable job where you would be able to be with Violet more often. In New York you were a receptionist so you would have to leave her with Jo’s parents. So it was important for you to have the freedom to be with her since you can’t rely on June.
When you were looking around for jobs online you had seen that a flower shop was going for sale. Growing up you had always loved flowers. Books of plants, flowers, and gardening stuffed your bookshelves. With the money that was left to you from your parents you decided to buy it. Was it a long shot? Maybe but it couldn’t hurt to try. This way you will be able to have Vi with you at the shop without paying for a sitter.
With the van unpacked it was close to dinner time. Too tired from the day you and Jo decide to order pizza. But you make Vi her own meal on the side to have. You’re stirring the noodles that are in the pot when tiny footsteps can be heard. “Momma.” A little voice yells. You drop the spoon, turning to squat down. “Vi. How’s my favorite flower doing?” She giggles as you blow kisses on her neck and squeeze her tight. “She’s been such a little angel. Are you sure you don’t want to just leave her with me during the day.” June asks as she walks into the kitchen.
“Oh no I couldn’t ask that of you. Anyway, I want to spend as much time with her as I can. She won’t stay this small forever.” You finish up Vi’s food just in time for the pizza to get there at the same time. You all sit down and eat. You cut up tiny pieces of your pizza to let Vi try to see how she will like it. The table laughs when she smacks her lips and signs for more.
The rest of the night was pretty uneventful. Your routine consisted of giving Vi a bath and putting her to bed. Then finishing up some things before tucking in for the night as well. Before you know it the alarm is going off and it is bright outside. It’s seven o’clock so you have roughly thirty minutes before Vi gets up.
Quickly you head to the bathroom for a shower rushing to head downstairs and start breakfast. When breakfast was finished it was time for her to wake up and you go to her room. Which she actually slept in last night. She’s rubbing her eyes, burrowing her head back into her pillow. “Goodmorning baby girl.” You softly say as you rub her back to gently wake her up more. “Hi momma.” Her voice is like music to your ears, always making you smile.
Slowly but surely she gets up, both of you entering the kitchen to eat. “Morning.” Jo yawns over her coffee mug. “Morning.” Strapping Vi to her chair, you place her plate in front of her before grabbing yours. Jo sits down across from you as she sips from her mug. “Any plans for today?” You finish chewing the piece of toast and look up at the girl in front of you. “Going to the shop. Want to work some stuff out before it opens again.”
“Bug and I can chill her with grams while you do that. I have the day off.” A sigh of relief is released. “Thank you. I need to make sure the ship of flowers is accurate. I need to restart the garden in the back.” Jo let’s out a “damn” while shaking her her. “Good luck with that. That sounds like a lot of counting. Counting yucky, right Vi.” The end is talking to the toddler. Her giggle lighting up the room.
After finishing Vi’s morning routine you change into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. The weather was nice but there was still a chill in the air. You walk down the stairs to see Violet on the floor of the living room playing with some toys. “Hi sweetie. Heading out?” June is sitting on the couch smiling at you. “Yup I’m going to the shop today. Do you need anything while I’m out?” She shakes her head and laughs when Vi hands her a toy. “I’m okay. Now go ahead before we keep you here.”
June has been in love with Violet since she was born. She had visited Jo’s family right after you got back from the hospital. From that moment on she was always asking about her and buying her things. She said it was the first baby since Jo so it’s like she has a great grandbaby. Everyone was so kind about you having a baby so young and you couldn’t be more grateful. Which is something you wish you could say about this flower delivery.
The flowers were delivered yesterday right before you all started to unpack. You had rushed to let them in and place everything inside that you didn’t pay attention to when they did. The previous owners of the shop were older and couldn’t keep up with it anymore. The garden they had in the back that grew some of their flowers was dead and the others wilted a long time ago. So ordering flowers to fill the story was the only option you had.
Which seemed really great at the time but now it doesn’t. You had come in and set your bag down on the counter. Looking around you see the endless sea of flowers staring at you. You go to the back to the office and get the clipboard you had placed there yesterday. Painfully slow you separate the flowers by their species. Having to count every single one was starting to prove to be a difficult task.
One that got even worse when you found out you were short on some flowers. This wouldn’t have been a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that they were popular flowers. Roses, tulips, baby’s breath, carnations, all flowers that people love. You were opening up the store in two days and you need to make sure you have a good supply. June had said that a lot of the rich folk like to throw parties and will buy flowers. You need to be prepared just in case.
You were in the middle of counting the Anemone when the store's front door started to rattle. Stepping into view of the door there’s a tall man standing outside with his back to you. He’s on the phone and using his hands to talk wildly. The man turns around again to try the door and sees you standing there. He snaps his fingers at you and points to the door handle that’s locked.
You walk over and unlock it, opening it slightly to ask him what he needs. “Can I help you?” The guy is tall, handsome, his hair is growing out from a previous buzzcut. He has on a shirt that is too tight on him and a pair of khakis, not usually what you find attractive but he pulls it off. “Yeah. For starts you can let me in and second you’ll put my order in.” He holds up a pointer finger at you.
“I know. I’m here right now, if the new girl would let me in it could go faster.” He says into the phone. “Listen, I gotta go. I’ll let you know when they will be delivered.” You give him a complex look. “Sorry but we aren’t open right now. You have to come back in two days.” You try to close the door but his foot catches it. “Look, I really need an order for tomorrow. The florist we were using canceled and I need them. There’s a banquet and the stupid tables need flowers.”
You look back at the store and at him again. It wouldn’t hurt to do this order but you haven’t finished inventory yet. He could be asking for flowers that you can’t even give him. “I’m sorry but I’m not even open yet.” He interrupts you. “Well just open the store up and ring me out. I get you are new here but come on.” His tone is rude, annoyed that this is taking longer than he wants. “No, I can't just open up the store. I’m new here because I just bought it and I don’t even know how many flowers I have yet. So no I can’t help you, I’m sorry.”
He scoffs at you. “Do you normally buy things you don’t know if you can handle or is this a spur of the moment thing? I need those flowers.” This guy really has some audacity. “Do you normally talk down on workers or are you just a asshole?” Your head tilts to the side, looking up at him. The sun is burning your retina is making it hard to see anything but the lower part of his face. Even through the pain you can see the smile that crept on his face.
“Good luck with opening this up. I can clearly see the customer service is subpar.” With that he’s walking off down the street, pulling out his phone to probably call someone else. “Hey asshole, the flower delivery was short with some. So that’s the main reason I can’t help you. Don’t just assume shit.” Without looking back he calls out to you. “Sounds like an issue you need to fix. Try calling them up next time.”
Fuck. Of course you could just have called them this whole time. Quickly, you get back inside to finish the inventory to see what else is missing. After another hour you are done, exhausted from all the back and forth. Sitting down in the back office you call the distributor that you had used, explaining to them which flowers were short and how many you would need. Thankfully the lady on the other end didn’t give you any trouble, telling you she would have them delivered tomorrow.
By the time everything was done it was around 5:30, which meant you should head home for dinner. The drive back to the house was peaceful. In New York you really didn’t need a car, you had spent most of your time in the city so you took the subway. Every now and then you would have to drive to family in the suburbs, this reminds you of that drive. Seeing the trees and greenery is like a breath of fresh air.
It was a reminder that your old life was left back States away, no monsters here to haunt you. It’s refreshing knowing you got a new start and that Vi will get to grow up in a good place. When you get home it’s ten minutes until dinner should be served, at least for Vi. She’s on a strict schedule and will get fussy if she doesn’t eat or sleep at the same time.
You were greeted with shouts coming from the living room, footsteps playing the floorboards like a piano. “Momma!” Vi screams when she sees you in the hallway. “Hi pretty girl. How is my favorite doing? Had a good day?” She nods, tiny hands wiping her hair off her face. “Ya. Jo play.” She points to your friend who’s standing behind her. “She’s been making me run around for hours. How do you do this all the time?”
You pick Vi up, walking towards the kitchen as you give her a bunch of kisses. “Lot’s of coffee and I have amazing people who help me.” Jo throws an arm around your shoulder walking with you. The table was already set, plates filled with food. “Yeah we are pretty amazing. So amazing that grams are giving us the night off.” You place Vi in her seat and look at Jo. “What do you mean?”
She puts Vi’s food down in front of her before sitting to eat her own meal. “She means that you two are young and need to have fun. So I’ll stay here while this angel sleeps. Have fun for once.” June says as she makes her way back from what you assume is the bathroom. “Before you even try to say anything I told her she didn’t have to. She won’t take no for an answer so tough luck.” You don’t even argue, Jo’s parents always say she got her stubbornness from June so that is not a hill you want to die on.
Over dinner you tell them about your day. Explaining how you found out there were flowers missing and that you had to call for new ones. Finishing off your story telling with the asshole who thought he was special so that made him entitled to your flowers. “Sounds like a dick.” Jo said without thinking about the two year old sitting next to her. “Sorry.” June thought it was hilarious. Saying “it’s about time someone told those snobs the world doesn’t revolve around them.”
After dinner you spent time with Violet. Playing some more with her toys, then a bath to get the dirt off of her, and then reading bedtime stories to her. After each one she would let out a “nader'' informing you she wanted another story. The third one is always when she falls asleep, as soon as the first words are out so is she. Slowly and quietly you slip out of her bed and room.
“Ready?” Jo’s voice scared you, jumping from the fear shooting through your body. “For fucks sake Jo. Let me just change into a different shirt, I have Vi drool.” The other girls face twists in disgust as you pull that part of your shirt to show her. Not the worst thing you’ve had on you since becoming a mother but she still finds it gross. After changing the two of you head over to a bar.
The place actually looks really nice. There are lights strung up on the outside seating and the inside has amazing decorations. “What do you want? I’ll go get us the first round while you find us a table.” The first round? Damn Jo meant it when she said we will be living up the night. You haven’t really been out since your 21st, having a daughter doesn’t give you a lot of time to go out.
Plus you never really drank in highschool so this is a whole new ballpark for you. “Um I don’t know. Just get me something you will think I’ll like.” With that she was off to the bar as you found a table to sit at. The drink she came back with was in a tall glass and is yellow. You take it from her hands inspecting it. “What is it?” She rolls her eyes at you and takes a sip from her drink. “It’s a passion fruit mojito.”
You like passion fruit so this should be good. Oh yeah, that drink is delicious. You take a good few sips of it. “That’s fucking delicious.” Jo laughs at you. “Told you.” The two of you sit there for a while. Taking your time to finish your drinks. When they were done it was your turn to go up and get drinks. Since Jo is driving back she just wanted water but she insisted that you had to keep drinking.
The bar is a little more packed now, so you’re stuck waiting for the bartender to come around. Tapping your fingers lightly on the counter surface you space out, not realizing that the seat next to you was moving. “He won’t notice you for another five minutes. Blaire just sat down so he’ll be chatting her up for a bit.” The voice next to you sounds familiar, turning your head you can see why. “You again.” The guy from earlier smirks at you. “Now why does that sound like a bad thing?”
You look down at the other end of the bar to see the bartender flirting with a girl. Crap. “Maybe because you were rude and entitled. But hey what do I know?” Your brain is telling you to leave, just tell Jo you’ll go back up in a little. Then there’s a little voice in your head telling you to stay. For some reason there’s a part of you that is curious about the stranger.
“Pfft me entitled or rude? You’re the one who said that you wouldn’t let me order flowers.” Your eyes narrow at him, his arms shoot up in defense. “I know your shipment was fucked up.” He gives you a curious look. “I’ve never seen you before.”
“That’s because I just moved here. Don’t really know anyone besides my friend and her grandma.” You point back to Jo, his eyes following to see your friend with a wide eyed expression. “I don’t think I know her. Think I’ve seen her before but years ago.” He looks back at you, examining your facial features. You’re really pretty, he was too wrapped up in frustration earlier to notice. He’s sure noticing it now though.
His chair seems to get closer to you, scraping against the sticky floors. “Where did you move from?” You had expected him to stop talking to you yet here he is asking you questions. “New York. I lived there my whole life.” He leans his arms on the counter, looking at you from the side. “Nice, I’ve been there a few times. Do have to say the pizza wasn’t actually good.” You gasp at his outrageous statement. “What? You’ve got to be joking, it's the best. You just didn’t go to the right places, probably some fancy restaurant that sells those tiny portions.”
He’s cracking a smile from your mini rant. You’re right, it was one of those restaurants. The ones where it cost $400 to just get a table and everything is super expensive even though it's a meal for ants. He’s never seen anything wrong with those places, grew up his whole life eating at them. In this moment he wishes that wasn’t the case, that he knew how to be a normal person and not someone with money. He would have never been caught at a dingy restaurant eating food yet here he is longing to experience that. An experience he didn’t know he was missing until your reaction.
“Oh my god it was one of those places. You can’t say you’ve been to New York if you haven’t really tried their food.” He turns on the stool so his legs are facing you. “Wouldn’t that technically be their food as well? They have high class restaurants there.” He likes the way your eyes roll at him, wanting them to do it in a different way. “That’s like going to Italy and eating at fast food places we have in America. Yeah it’s their version but it’s not actually Italian food.” “I would never. Italy is too perfect to not eat their food.”
You look at him, a smile plastered on your face. “Please don’t tell me you’ve been to Italy and I’m making a fool of myself.” He can’t help but to chuckle at how cute you are when you are nervous. “Alright I won’t say anything.” He shrugs. You let out a groan, of course he has. He looks like he has money so what else did you expect. “What can I get you?”
The bartender cuts the moment the two of you were having. “Can I get a whiskey and whatever she’s having.” You look back at Jo and she sends you a thumbs up. “I’ll just have a passion fruit mojito.” The bartender leaves you two as he goes to make the drinks. “Wouldn’t have taken you as a mojito girl?” You look at him, blush forming on your cheeks. “Yeah? What kind of girl would you take me as?” He doesn’t know if you are flirting but he sure the hell hopes so. “Maybe a margarita. I feel like you’re a tequila girl.”
You giggle at the implication. “The last time I had tequila it got me in trouble.” It did, that’s how you ended up with a baby and being kicked out. “I like trouble.” Fuck. You had told yourself when moving here to just stick to yourself and everything will be fine. THen this guy walks in and you want to throw it all out the window. It’s not fair, he’s too hot to even say no to.
“You know I got to say I never met a florist as pretty as you” He tells you, leaning in closer but keeping a good distance. “Are you flirting with me so I can change my mind about those flowers?” He laughs, turning so he is now facing you, resting his weight on the counter top. “No, just flirting. Would it help me get them though?” Now it’s your turn to laugh. “You are not getting flowers. I would still have to prepare them and I wouldn’t get it done on time.Plus who knows if the reshipment will get here on time” You take a sip of your drink.
“What if you had help?” Your eyes look into his. They're pretty. A shade of blue that in this light somewhat seems gray. They remind you of Vi, she had pretty blue eyes too, that she got from your mom. “You would hire help for me?” He scoots closer, his hand playing with the ends of your hair. “I could help you.” His fingers brush against your arms. The words seem to have an undertone of something. Simply suggesting something else. “How?”
The smirk that forms on his face makes you want to kiss him. His hand clears your face from stray strands of hair, eyes locking to yours. “However you want me.” This isn’t really feeling like you’re talking about flowers anymore. You aren’t sure if you should shut it down or keep going. The drinks were placed in front of you, he doesn’t take his eyes off of you as he hands the bartender his card. To relax yourself you take a sip of your drink, which only makes it worse. Now your relaxed mind can only think about dragging him off somewhere to see how much he could really help.
You’re interrupted before you can make a mistake. “Yo country club we gotta go.” A man walks up to the two of you. He nods at the guy. “Give me a sec.” The man looks at the both of you and shakes his head. “Aight five minutes.”
“Have somewhere to be?” He downs the rest of his whiskey. “Wish I didn’t.” Your blush intensifies. Shifting in your chiat you rest a hand on his lap. “Too bad. I was just starting to like you.” He stands up, catching your hand as it falls. “Guess I’ll have to refresh your memory tomorrow.” Your hand tightens around his. “Wait tomorrow?”
“Gotta help you with those flowers right?” He actually meant it. “Fine.” He smiles and drops your hand, backing away from you. “I’m Rafe by the way.” You tell him your name, grab your drink and get up as well. “See you tomorrow beautiful.”
You smile all the way to the table, meeting Jo whose mouth was wide open. “Dude you were just flirting with Rafe Cameron.” You shrug your shoulders at you and sipping your drink “So what?” Her face flashes with different emotions. “So what? Dude he’s literally the richest person on this island. After his dad passed away he inherited the family business, he’s dumb rich.”
Jo won’t shut up about how hot the richest guy in Kildare was flirting with you. She gave you some of the run down on him from her “sources” on the island. Those sources being friends she made when she would visit. He apparently has a mean streak, causing fights with people. How he would sleep around with every girl and on top of that did drugs. It shouldn’t have shocked you but it was surprising to hear.
You thought over everything as you laid in bed. Rafe seemed funny and sweet when he talked to you in the bar. Those two versions of him do not seem to align together. Yet again you had only met him today and you don’t have the greatest track record with guys. It doesn’t matter anyway. You weren’t looking for anything anyway, all you needed to focus on was yourself and your daughter.

ASK COMPILATION: LORE, CHARACTERIZATION, AND THE ONE IN WHICH I RUIN A BUNCH OF PEOPLE'S FUN
As usual, this is far from all of the asks in my inbox but I'm trying to catch up 😩thank you everyone for your patience!
For the record, if your ask isn't being answered, that most likely means one of three things:
I am saving it as a possible art prompt.
I sincerely don't have a very interesting or good reply for it yet!
It's a question I have been asked multiple times/the answer is in my pinned post.
Tumblr media
Glad you like them!!
As much as I don't limit what I draw to canonical events, vampirism is so antithetical to DU drow's character journey that I couldn't really envision it, to be honest, but who knows! Maybe I'll cook up some Ascended Astarion scenario someday that is kind of a role-reversal of the Bhaalist DU Drow AU I have going on in tandem to the story.
Tumblr media
I'll be honest, this is one of the rare times where I'm really not sure which aspect of DU drow's weirdness this is in reference to. Do you know something I don't? 😅
Tumblr media
His masochism is very... Classic, I guess? He's in it for the pain and for the emotional connection, and the process of being pierced wouldn't cut it whatsoever, it's too subtle. The body modifications he has are an incidental result of it, but they were never really the goal.
Also having stuff dangling off his face or body would just irritate him, he specifically only does rings because all other types of jewellery get in the way too much. Pre-tadpole Bhaalist drow obviously wore them by the ton, but only as a symbol of status and because he had a permanent new-money complex🤷 so yeah not a piercing-type of character at all, sorry!
Tumblr media
He's smooth from the eyelashes-down and profoundly weirded out by body hair LOL
Tumblr media
I don't personally think that whatever Astarion had for a home before would bear my resemblance to it after 200 years - having probably gone through several owners, remodeled, if not completely lost to the destruction of the end-game. I do HC that he used to visit it whenever he could as an enthralled spawn to read his mail, but he stopped after his father passed.
Tumblr media
THANK YOU, I THINK? I can't say that isn't a passionate description at least!
I'm honestly surprised that this comes up as often as it does LOL but it's just an stylistic choice on my end!
Tumblr media
The latter - for sure. He figured that them dying at each other's hands at the end was a given and took that assumption entirely for granted (and I'm sure daydreamed about it often while Gortash went on and on about political strategy during their dinner meetings.)
Tumblr media
;))) way ahead of you and by "way ahead" I mean "eventually and whenever I can figure out when to do it alongside the other 30 ideas I am currently juggling" (but I really do want to make a little comic out of it!)
Tumblr media
He used them! Not immediately, but he grew to trust the guardian after some initial suspicion and happily gobbled up those squirmy little things alongside Astarion. Because I made his character on a whim and without any planned backstory, I didn't really put any thought into his Guardian's appearance either, so she's just a human woman with a Joan of Arc look going on who's of no significance to him or his past.
But DU drow did trust her, again not immediately but eventually. It was honestly a big kick in the gut to him when the Emperor revealed himself and it definitely set their relationship up to fail from the get-go.
This is also why he didn't ascend to the next stage of Ilithid power, he just stomped the thing dead right on the spot LOL
Tumblr media
LMAO I think Gortash is too proud to chase a tail he can't catch like that
He was probably very overwhelmed by the sudden realization that OH, THIS IS ALL HAPPENING BECAUSE OF ME which naturally didn't come across whatsoever to anyone present since he immediately bottled it up and tucked it away out of sight. However, as the story progressed and DU drow helped his friends get out of their respective pickles he was probably able to justify it to himself as it having been for the greater good - since it led to Astarion being freed from his master and Shadowheart to defying the Sharrans.
As for all of the rest of the ensued destruction and death that resulted from it? Well you can't make an omelette without cracking some eggs, or whatever is the wizard version of that saying. He has essentially turned the entire situation into a net-positive in his mind and sleeps great at night because of it.

୨・┈﹕✦﹕ Kinktober Day 28﹕✦﹕┈・୧
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-> Event Masterlist
Yakuza Toji Fushiguro x F!Reader -> Dacryphilia
Warnings: Overstimulation, clit-spanking, dacryphilia, soft talk (no degradation), size kink.
Toji Fushiguro— the esteemed mafia head of the Tokyo district, encompassing the entirety of Japan and their drug cartel masked with numerous business, one atop the other. The name and fame of the celebrity CEO who is rumored to hold more power than the government, but stays uncommitted to such false allegations. One more thing about him, he has a wife he dotes on, which people absolutely hate. So much money, so much power, so beautiful & big— who wouldn’t want a husband like him?
You do thank the universe everyday for bestowing you with someone like Toji. At present, you both are vacationing in Greece, Athens. It’s just one of his adoring ways to pave away your boredom/make life more exciting for you. Why would he not? You deserve the whole world after all. The balcony with ancient Greek architecture, white colors and beautiful decors intermingled with the solemn sea waves crashing your booked hotel room. You have marmalade and bread, some coffee & also your husband in front of you. Toji had no interest in the breakfast, his eyes darted on you. “Good morning little one. Slept well?” He asked gently, to which you hummed with a nod. Breathing out in content as the bitter flavor of caffeine hits your lazy nerves just right. “Did you sleep well?” You tilted your head, asking him the same question to which you got a smile-laced nod.
“You know, it’s been a long time since we spent time like this without you being so busy. I… uh, kinda like that.” You smiled, expressing your happiness.
“That makes me so glad, my love. I’d make time for my one and only. That’s a promise.” Toji held your hand in his, kissing your knuckle.
“I’d love that, sir.” You smirked, watching his content expression change to one of excitement. “Really?” He kisses your knuckle again, asking you again if you called him ‘Sir’ because you want things to shift that way.
You nodded, wanting nothing more but to feel Toji's physique taking advantage of its bulk stature and tossing you around. Before you could comprehend more, Toji shoved you down the bed, spreading your legs apart and keeping a pillow down your waist. "Not gonna be nice today pretty girl." Toji hummed, while your wandering eyes watched him eagerly, nodding in approval. You wanted him to have his way with you after all.
His hands ripped the fabric off your shorts, and then your panties, while you could do nothing but watch in awe, gasping at the sound, fluttering into your ears. His eager tongue found its way down your clit, licking and suckling onto it without a care in the world. You mumbled out in a soft moan, feeling yourself giving into the foundation of pleasure Toji has long established, nothing can save you from him. Not that you wanted to be saved.
"That's it, going to make you cum so many times, until I see fit." Toji roared, he wanted to eat you out over and over until you couldn't take it anymore. "Yes, sir, please... all yours." You whimpered as your walls fluttered around nothing, moaning out when the tight cunt felt his thick fingers intervene and curl up.
"Shit, I'm so, so close." You arched your back, shuddering and convulsing for more. "Please, let me cum." You knew better than to tip off the edge without his permission after all. Toji nodded, siren eyes gazing at you as you toppled off, chasing your crashing orgasm with whines and whimpers, your body succumbing into the high and slowly crashing. He was ready to build it again, his fingers not stopping and his mouth wrapped on your puffy clit again, a carnal groan escaping him, indicating he wants more.
"Gonna give me another one, yes?" Toji smirked, watching you nod in affirmation. Oh, how cute you are, wanting to please him and wanting to cum for him again like a good girl in heat. "That's good, being a good girl for me, hmm?" His hand languidly slapped onto your clit once, something deep-rooted within him waking up; when he sees the tears stinging into your eyes. Oh, his little baby was close again.
"Cum for me whenever." Toji cooed, fingers roughly curling up into you, lifting your pelvis up slightly with how rough he's being right now. "God. Can feel you close again." He sighed, eyes drinking up the sight of your furrowed brows, how your lips parted in a silent 'o' when you orgasmed again, bucking your hips and screaming out at the feeling.
"Aw, you're crying, little one?" Toji cooed, watching how his cock strained his pants even more than before. His ever-so-spoiled little baby was now crying because of him. Something about the fact that only he can make you cry and smile did something to him. "Go on, cry for me more.'" He smirked, spanking your clit firmly, watching your body wither down, taking in the painful pleasure and moaning out.
Your soft glossy eyes turned into audible sobs when Toji shoved his thick cock into your fluttery walls, despite fucking him for years, you could never get used to him absolutely ruining you. "Can't take it, little girl? I'm sure you can... come on. Give it to me."
Toji eventually took five orgasms out of you, two on his tongue and three on his cock, switching positions, fucking deep into your cervix, kissing you, muffling your moans, wiping your tears, and kissing you again. "Can't," You sniffled when he eventually halted.
Toji observed you, watching how adorable and utterly cute you looked like this, ruined to the maximum, sobbing cause you've had too much cock. His pretty, little, pathetic baby. "Heh, want another one?" Toji teasingly rubbed your overstimulated and swollen clit, holding your pelvis down when you tried to squirm away in a loud whimper, shaking your head no.
"But you look too cute like this, crying out." He insisted, watching your clenched jaw and your moans turn into screaming.
"Promise, last orgasm." Toji hummed, continuing his torture on your clit. "Cry for me again, pretty girl." He cooed, smirking when you gave up, knowing fully well he would drain another orgasm out of your already tired body.
"Sorry, wifey, can't help it, you know? You look too pretty when you cry."
You don't need to worry because once all this is over, Toji will coup you back in his arms, cradle you for hours, tell you how good you've been, take you to a warm bath, kiss your forehead, call you brave for taking it so well and make you remember how much he loves you all over again.

your heart is the target // jay
Tumblr media
The last thing Jay expected when striking a fake dating deal with you was to get jealous (and ultimately, to fall head over heels for you).
➳ Characters: rich business student!Jay x professional archer!female reader/you
➳ Genre: fake dating au, high society au, olympics au, fluff, comedy
➳ Words: 5.5k
➳ Warning: mentions of food & drinks; vocab related to archery such as the usage of the words 'shooting' 'aim' and 'target'; my knowledge regarding archery comes from watching the Olympics, online research and this archery glossary, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! Jay is big time jealous in the first scene and big time in denial in the third one, so excuse him, he's just hiding his big heart!
➳ A/N: This story was heavily inspired by the Olympics, ISAC, 'Brought the heat back' aka the perfect jealousy song and this short on Youtube.
It's also a spin-off to 'how to cross the line?' with Jake and 'red light, green light' with Sunghoon which both take place before this one, but this story can absolutely be read on its own. ❤️
Tumblr media
Apparently, Jay didn’t think through what kind of consequences the fake dating would bring about, and how he would react to them. To be precise, to boys around you.
But it did save him time, money, and let’s be honest, mental energy to not spend so much of his time going on blind dates his mother used to send him off to. Even though he would have plenty of time to meet girls at university, most of them only talked to him because he was 1) a rugby player for the college team 2) he had a lot of money and 3) he was handsome. He wanted more than that, but he didn’t seem to have too much luck, and it didn’t help that both of his university friends - Jake and Sunghoon - already had girlfriends, so whenever they spent time together, he felt like he was fifth wheeling.
So really, it was a sensible deal between you and him, even more so because you were a professional archer, training for the Olympics, so you had even less time to focus on dating than he did. So realising that both of you were fed up with the unfruitful blind dates you had to attend when you two had been set up, you had struck a deal. You would pretend to date for the sake of your families and yourselves, but if either of you found someone they actually liked in the meantime, you would call it off. Otherwise, you could take advantage of the other as a plus one at events, further minimising the chances of shallow-minded boys or girls coming up to you two in hopes of seducing you.
However, sitting through the opening ceremony of a music hall that Jay’s parents built where most people knew who you were wasn’t the same as accompanying you to your birthday party where all kinds of boys showed up he hadn’t seen before. Even the sight of them around you angered him, but the way they mistook him for someone else was truly dancing on his nerves.
At first, there was this tall, broad-shouldered boy who seemed younger than him, but multiple heads turned his way when he walked by, probably because of his handsome looks. Though Jay would never think of growing his hair long, he had to admit that he had a majestic feel to him because of his shoulder-length chestnut brown locks.
“Oh, noona!” The boy hollered when he caught sight of you, and Jay immediately stiffened beside you, but didn’t move when the other boy halted in front of you. As if he didn’t even see Jay, he boasted a wide grin as he handed you a gift box. “Happy birthday!”
“Thank you so much, Leehan! I’m glad you could make it,” you reciprocated his wide smile, visibly comfortable even with the close proximity of the boy. Or maybe it seemed close only because Jay was also by your side.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Though we had a bit of an emergency because Jaehyun managed to spill coffee on my suit, but alas, I look dazzling in any suit,” he blabbered joyfully, and only after you asked a few more questions about his day and silence settled on you three, did the boy turn his head towards Jay.
“Oh, you didn’t tell me that you had a bodyguard,” he noted with curiously widening eyes, and Jay’s eyebrows immediately shot up.
“Pardon?”
“Who are you then if not her bodyguard? You look so serious,” he pointed out, shrugging his shoulders casually. Jay felt like he could combust from both the embarrassment and the fury he felt, but held himself back because he was better than that. Besides, he might have stood too stiff beside you, but every approaching boy was a target in his eyes.
“Oh yeah, Leehan, I didn’t tell you. He’s my boyfriend, Jay. Jay Park.”
Leehan let out a little giggle before mentioning that it was funny that he had the same name as the singer. It wasn’t the first time he heard it, but it didn’t seem to get old no matter how much he hated it. It was just a name after all. It was like joking to every Kitty about Hello Kitty.
“Leehan and I used to be neighbours when I was living in Busan,” you explained as you turned towards him, and despite the fact that he didn’t even know you used to live in Busan, he appreciated the fact that you shared it with him. The explanation soothed his nerves a bit, but he was relieved only when Leehan left to say hello to your parents.
It was crazy, he was crazy, Jay thought to himself. He wasn’t usually like this. In fact, he was never like this. You weren’t even his real girlfriend, yet he was acting like a real jealous boyfriend. Did he even have the right to act this way? After all, Leehan was right. He was standing there beside you like a stuck up person, waiting to judge the next person that came up to you.
You took note of his behaviour as well, and asked if he was alright.
“Why wouldn’t I be fine?” Jay sulked like a little kid, hoping that the tone of voice was as close to neutral as possible, but judged by the way you let out a resigned sigh, he had a feeling that he wasn’t very convincing.
“I’m sorry that I dragged you into this. Maybe it was a bit too soon to have you here today,” you mused out loud, biting on your lower lip as you looked around, at the hustle-bustle of the guests. He knew exactly what you meant by ‘too soon’; a month into your fake dating deal, but it was what he had signed up for, so it wasn’t your fault, and he didn’t get why you felt this way.
“I’m fine, really. I just hardly know anyone, and it seems that people think I’m either your brother or your bodyguard, not your boyfriend.”
Your lips curled upwards when he mentioned this, referring both to Leehan’s bravado and Mark’s who was a childhood friend of yours, but went to the States to study, and totally forgot how your brother looked, and mistook Jay for your brother, Heeseung. In Mark’s defence, he supposedly had not only horrible eyesight but a poor face memory, too.
Coming to think of it, these were pretty amusing conversations, but Jay didn’t feel like laughing even though the bell-like sound of your laughter did awaken something inside of him. He didn’t have a lot of time to ponder what this unfamiliar feeling was though because the next guest came up to you, and you immediately welcomed him with a tight hug.
A hug.
From a boy he didn’t know.
What on Earth was going on? Why did you know so many people? Why did you know so many boys? He met like six of your acquaintances who were boys, and there was only one girl. Just why?
“... and this is Jay,” he faintly heard your voice, and when you called his name, he perked up, looking at you. He was so lost in thought that he barely registered that you and the jet-black haired boy had already started talking. He seemed kind with his big brown eyes and lips that curled naturally into a genuine smile, and even his tone was friendly when he spoke up.
“Your boyfriend, Jay, right?” He asked in a casual, conversational way as he reached his hand out for a handshake.
Now, this boy… he was a keeper. Jay liked him.
“Yes, that’s me,” Jay greeted him with a relieved sigh and shook his hand. He had a firm grip, but his kind smile wouldn’t have made him think so.
“My name is Sung Hanbin. We are archery partners with Y/N,” he explained after he let go of his hand, and now Jay didn’t know what to say. Seeing his confused face, you rushed to explain that you and Hanbin were training together as a mixed team for the Olympics.
“I thought that only same sex teams were competing.”
“There are actually 3 different archery categories. Individual, team and mixed team. We’re in the mixed team with Hanbin. It’s only us two, it’s not like fencing when there could be 4 people in a team,” you answered him in detail, and you were patient with him even though he had no idea about archery as a sport, let alone how the Olympics worked. On the other hand, he would definitely look things up after this because he didn’t want to embarrass himself like he did so.
Not like Hanbin seemed bothered by his lack of knowledge regarding the field. Instead, he asked about his side, and was super eager to learn about all the business things Jay studied at university. He was even more curious when he got to know that Jay did rugby, and asked him to show him some moves one day, he would be looking forward to it.
“You should also come to one of our practices. Y/N is seriously so amazing on the field,” Hanbin suggested, awe lacing his words. There was something in the way he said it, but he wouldn’t think that it was because Hanbin harboured feelings for you. It seemed more like respect than infatuation.
“Ah please, I’m just…”
“I’ll make sure to come by. If you don’t mind,” Jay made up his mind about it quickly, and searched for your eyes. This was the first time you wouldn’t bring the other as a plus one to an event, you would do it simply because you wanted to. It could be seen that you were taken aback by the suggestion, but you composed your features within mere seconds, and directed a smile at him.
“Sure. I’d love that.”
There was a moment when you just gazed at each other, and he forgot about everything else around you. He simply focused on the way the shiny peach-coloured lipstick sat on your lips as they curled into a smile, and the way the lights from the grand chandelier above reflected in your ocean deep eyes. The way the foundation couldn’t hide your beautiful moles, and the way you radiated confidence and chicness in your feminine pink and white body suit.
“Okay, I’ll leave you two lovebirds to have some time to yourself. I might check out the drinks instead,” Hanbin announced, pulling you two back to reality. A hue of pink crept onto your cheeks at the reminder that you were not alone, but your smile didn’t waver as you bid your archery partner goodbye.
“I’ve also brought you a gift, but I left at the table where I saw people leaving them,” Jay announced when he looked down at the gift boxes in your hand. You thanked him, and told him that you would definitely check it out and let him know what you thought about his gift.
Not like you had a lot of time to open gifts because your birthday party was more than packed with conversations with familiar and not so familiar figures, and by the end of the night, Jay had no idea how you still had the energy to greet everyone as energetically as in the beginning. Thankfully, there were no more people who assumed that he was your brother or bodyguard, but some found it surprising to see you as a couple. Like the ever so talkative Keeho who analysed the future of your relationship based on your music taste, MBTI and star sign (whatever he meant by that), or one of your mother’s friend’s daughters - Giselle - who was convinced that Jay was Hanbin because she thought that you were dating your archery partner because that would be so YA book-like.
Nevertheless, Jay truly hoped that after this night, everyone would know that you two were dating, so he wouldn’t have to go through this again. He wasn’t sure he could take that.
Tumblr media
You didn’t know what got into Jay when he gave in to Hanbin’s suggestion because he was usually reserved when it came to such events. You would think that he didn’t want to bother with it since he hated blind dates just as much as you did, and you weren’t even dating for real, so it could have been just another nuisance in his eyes.
Nevertheless, he didn’t go back on his word, but asked when he could come by, and so you settled on a date. He made sure to ask if you were comfortable by the idea of him coming to your practice, but you reassured him that you were totally fine with it. Even though you didn’t interact that much in person, you rather texted the other, your impression of him was quite positive. He was a just person, someone who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, but he was also very attentive, noticing when the screw of your earring let go and fixing it for you at the business event you had attended, or how he had gone around to find a blanket for you when you had been sitting outside in the garden at your birthday party. Even his gift was thoughtful: he bought an Avalon archery bag for you which was a good quality bag for professional athletes. You were in need of a new one anyway, so you brought it with you to practise ever since, something that Hanbin couldn’t not notice.
Ever since the two boys had met at your birthday party, Hanbin had been asking about how you had met and whether it was difficult to keep up a relationship with your training schedule and Jay’s university classes. To be honest, you didn’t decide on such details with Jay, so you spoke the truth, and told him that you had met on a blind date, and you had made it work through texts and calls because you wanted to. Which was actually true because you and Jay were getting to know each other, and sometimes it felt like it wasn’t just for the sake of the fake dating deal, but because you really did want to know more about the other. At least, you wanted to know more about him.
The indoor archery range had a security system in place, so only the athletes and the staff could enter who had a card to use the building, so you went out to let Jay inside when he texted you that he arrived. You inquired if he found it easy to get here, and he said that it was fine, and he found a decent parking place not far, so it was alright. Because of course, he knew how to drive and he had his own car. Jay was every girl’s dream after all, no wonder that title followed him around like second skin.
“So it’s just you practising today, or will there be others?”
“We’ve booked a range for us, so it’ll be me, Hanbin and our two coaches. I let the coaches know that we would have a visitor, but it’s alright. A lot of archers visit each other’s practice to learn about techniques, so you won’t stand out too much. Or maybe just a bit,” you pointed at his sleek black cotton pants, dress shoes and white shirt that he tucked into his pants, highlighting his slender waist.
Jay seemed a tad bit coy at your playful call-out, his lips slightly puckering as he looked down at his - probably usual - attire, but he went back to his usual self immediately.
“I hope I won’t be too distracting,” he mentioned with an unbothered look, but you couldn’t help but nudge him in the side.
“What was that? Were you flirting with me?”
“I-” He was about to protest, probably not thinking too much into his words, but then, it dawned on him why you teased him. “I’m your boyfriend after all, aren’t I?” He shrugged nonchalantly, but you could see a hint of amusement prompting his lips to curl upwards.
No matter how many times you said the words ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend’ out loud, it still seemed unfamiliar. Yet, there was a certain thrill to it too, something that you had never experienced before. Not since you had broken up with your boyfriend of three months in high school, at least.
After pulling yourself together, you guided Jay to the right room, and told him that he could sit in the spectators’ stand, you also put your bag there. So he took a seat in the front row beside your bag after greeting the ones who were present. Hanbin gave you a knowing look before he turned towards his coach who gave him some instructions. After warming up, you attached the quiver to your waist, and you held up the bow, testing the limbs and the hand. That’s when you realised that you had left a part of it in your bag, so you jogged up to the slightly confused Jay.
“Could you pass me the kisser from my bag?”
“The what?” The boy’s eyebrows shot up so high, you were afraid that his eyes would pop. That’s when you realised that you had used the jargon that he wasn’t familiar with.
“It’s this little black button in the right pocket of my bag,” you explained to him while you leaned onto the rail separating you two. Jay’s shoulders sagged in relief, and you found it difficult to hold back your laughter seeing his bewildered expression. Well yeah, the button was called kisser because it was attached to the bowstring, and your lips usually touched this part when aiming, to give consistent vertical reference. But he must have thought of something else.
Either way, Jay found the button, and handed it to you which you accepted with a grateful smile. Your fingers lightly grazed his hand in the meantime, and you felt heat rushing to your cheeks. No matter how many accidental touches you shared, it was still unfamiliar to you, the effect he had on you.
“Are you sure you will be able to concentrate with him here?” Hanbin teased once you jogged back to him, and you gave him a long stare.
“It’s not like it wasn’t your idea to invite him here.”
“Well, let’s just say I knew what I was doing,” he shrugged, a teasing little grin stretching on his lips. You nudged his shoulder in return and told him to focus on hitting the gold target face.
Despite Hanbin’s warning, the practice went well. What’s more, it went exceptionally well. You both scored high, and even if you didn’t perform that well in a set, you made up for it in the next one. One thing about mixed archery that you liked was that you could cheer on your partner without fearing for your own ranking, and it was easy to shoot beside Hanbin because he was very supportive, and even if he took archery seriously, he knew when to be silly to ease the tension. He was determined and hard-working just like you, and your coaches often said that you seemed like you were made to be each other’s partners.
Once your coaches left and it was nearing the end of your time slot, Hanbin inquired from Jay if he wanted to try it out himself. He objected vehemently, saying that after your practice, he didn’t want to embarrass himself. You didn’t force him either, but thanked him for coming by.
“I will give you a lift,” he offered gently when you walked up to him to get your bag.
“You really don’t have to. It might take about half an hour before I will get ready.”
“It’s alright. I don’t have other plans,” he protested firmly, and you didn’t have the heart to go against him when he offered it himself. He really wouldn’t say it out loud, but you had a feeling that he was offering to give you a ride because it was getting dark outside, and he didn’t want you to go home alone.
“Thanks. I will be quick,” you promised beamingly, and off you went.
After taking a quick shower, getting changed and putting your hair up into a high ponytail, you were fresh and clean, ready to head out. Jay was standing on the other side of the security gate, leaning against the wall while scrolling through his phone. You had a feeling someone let him out - maybe the security guard or Hanbin because he always finished earlier than you -, but still, it was nice to see him standing there even though he really did stand out in his business outfit while you had sweatpants and a knitted sweater on.
Jay’s nonchalant expression turned lighter when he caught sight of you, and he immediately reached for your bag, holding it for you without saying a word. Your face flushed when your hands touched again, but you looked the other way to hide your embarrassment.
You let silence fall over the two of you as you were walking towards his car, and when you stepped inside the vehicle, you felt like you were the one who stood out in your casual, sporty outfit. Alas, you preferred comfort over style when you were off to practise or coming from practise, and you were thankful that you didn’t need to wear high heels or dresses during these times. Plus, it’s not like Jay made a comment on it, instead, he inquired if the temperature was alright in the car, and if you preferred to have the radio on or not.
“So how did you like the practice? I hope it wasn’t too boring,” you inquired when the boy started the engine and drove out from the parking lot.
“It wasn’t boring at all. I didn’t know the distance for archery is 70 metres, so I was impressed that you could control the arrow from such a distance.”
“How did you know it was 70 metres?”
Jay’s Adam’s apple bobbed hearing your question as if he didn’t want to acknowledge that he clearly made his research. You definitely didn’t tell him about that.
“Well, I read it somewhere before,” he mumbled under his nose, but you couldn’t help this warm, embracing feeling bubbling up inside of you. He might have looked cold and composed, but you seemed to shake up his demeanour lately.
You talked a bit more about archery during the car ride because he was curious about the type of arrows you used, how you controlled the draw length and the aim, and whether you enjoyed individual, team or mixed archery the most. You found it heart-warming that he asked you about this because archery meant so much to you, but when you went to high society events with your parents, oftentimes the people there only asked about whether you had a boyfriend and when you would join your father’s company. Your parents never forced you to choose a different path, but these kinds of interactions came with the type of life they had chosen for themselves when you moved from Busan to Seoul, and your father set up his company that has since become one of the most important AI consulting companies in not just Seoul but the whole country.
Time passed by in a blink of an eye while you were talking, and you found yourself at home in no time. Yet, as his car drove out of your driveway, you realised that you wouldn’t mind if he gave you a ride back home more often.
Tumblr media
Bit by bit, you and Jay got closer, and there was no denying it anymore. He went to your practices a few more times, you showed up at business events beside him other times, and in the meantime, you continued texting and calling each other. Jay also made it a habit to pick you up after practice when he didn’t have anything else to do, and sometimes Hanbin joined you, too. Jay liked him because he could see that he was a genuine, kind guy who would want nothing bad for you, and your archery partner also gave him his phone number, so Jay could reach out to him in case you didn’t pick up your phone or anything like that. Which was really attentive of him, and despite not saying it out loud, Jay grew fond of the other boy, too.
Alas, his fondness towards you could not be contained that easily, and it didn’t take long for his friends to pick up on his antics. Jake and Sunghoon teased him ever since Jay admitted that he “wasn’t feeling neutral towards you” which, in his dictionary, meant that he liked you, and they kept bombarding him with dating advice. He would never force you to date him though, and you had enough on your plate with the Olympics coming up, so he didn’t want to complicate things even further.
However, it didn’t mean that he couldn’t be supportive of you and your dreams.
“So… are you going to the Olympics with Y/N?” Jake inquired once when they were having lunch together between classes. Jay almost choked on his food, he was so surprised.
“Why would I go with her to the Olympics? She didn’t tell me that she wants me there,” he furrowed his eyebrows, looking at his puppy-like friend. Jake and Sunghoon shared a glance, and there was a knowing smile in the corner of Sunghoon’s lips when he spoke up.
“Jay, my dear friend, you really don’t know a thing about relationships, do you?”
“It’s not like you have that much experience,” Jay snorted, pointing out the fact that he and Chaerin had only been dating for half a year. To be precise, dating officially because they also had their fake dating period when Sunghoon had tried to keep Chaerin’s douchebag ex away by pretending to be her boyfriend. But he had already had a crush on the cheerleader, so his feelings had been genuine when they had started fake dating.
“Well, it’s still more than your experience which is close to zero,” he shrugged and reached for his bottle of water. Jake found the conversation amusing as he kept smiling while shoving kimchi fried rice into his mouth.
“Well then, enlighten me. Why should I go?” Jay gave up on trying to argue with them because as much as he wanted to deny it, the thought had crossed his mind that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t be too bad if he went to the Olympics to watch your competitions. Then again, you had never asked if he wanted to come or if he was willing to come, so he didn’t bother asking either.
“To support her. I’m pretty sure she’s all nerves, especially because she had a bronze medal in the last Olympics, so she must be feeling a lot of pressure. Not to mention that she and Hanbin are said to be the most promising duo for the team archery.”
“It’s mixed archery,” Jay corrected Jake’s choice of words, and his two friends immediately shared a glance. Oh well, he had really become a bit of an expert in archery, but could they blame him? He was trying not to be too nosy during practices, so he did his own research and watched your previous matches to gain more knowledge regarding your field.
Jay didn’t need to ask how they knew about your rankings because they pulled up your Wikipedia page the moment he told them that you were his fake girlfriend, and besides, he might have been dropping hints here and there. However, he had to give it to them that they were right, and despite the fact that you wouldn’t want to show it, he could see the dark circles under your eyes, and you had even managed to fall asleep once while he had been driving you home after practice. You seemed to lose a bit of your smile too, and he hated that he couldn’t do anything about it, except trying to be extra comforting and supportive.
He didn’t even need to be told twice. After asking Hanbin about your Olympics schedule, he booked himself a hotel and a plane ticket, and arrived the day before your first official match. He didn’t want you to worry about his safety while you were supposed to focus on your performance, so he only told you that he arrived when he got the green light from Hanbin that you finished with your last practice before your first day of competing.
Locks still stuck to your forehead when you rushed out of the stadium after a shower and changing clothes, and you hugged him so tightly upon seeing him that he immediately knew that coming here was the best decision that he had ever made.
“Thank you so much for coming! I can’t believe that you’re here,” you exclaimed giddily, and despite the fact that it was your first hug, somehow it felt so good, so right. You didn’t even seem embarrassed as you kept babbling afterwards about literally everything: the food in the Olympic village, how your room looked and how practise went that day.
He listened to you attentively, his heart a lot lighter that he could see you smile, and because you must have been hungry and tired, he treated you to a meal. You didn’t even want to talk him out of it, and enjoyed dinner with him to the last moment. He didn’t even want to let you go so soon, so he offered to walk you back to your accommodation.
“This morning, I was so nervous that I thought I’m coming down with something. I was also not performing as well during practice as I wanted to, but I feel like I’m a lot lighter now that you’re here. The fact that you carved time out of your day to come here willingly means so much to me,” you admitted coyly as he was walking beside you. He couldn’t go with you all the way because outsiders weren’t allowed in the Olympic village, but you still had some time as it was on the other side of the park you were currently strolling in.
“Even just the fact that you are here means that you’re doing great. I know you might feel the pressure to do better than four years ago, but know that you’re already a winner. You’re already one of the most excellent archers in the whole world,” he mused out loud, and if it wouldn’t have been for the bright lights in your deep dark eyes, he might have wanted to dig a hole for himself because that was quite cheesy. It came from his heart though, and you seemed to appreciate it so much that you were visibly touched.
“Don’t cry…” he shushed you when he noticed you tearing up, and reached out to wipe the first teardrop away that was racing down your cheeks. You looked up at him with those beautiful eyes, and he felt like time stopped around you as you two were standing still in the middle of the walking path, surrounded by the shushing of the trees and the watching eyes of the street lamps. To him, you looked vulnerable yet strong, someone who wasn’t afraid to face her feelings and though the sight of you with tears in your eyes churned his heart, he was also thankful that he could be there for you.
“I’m just… I’m just so happy that you’re here,” you choked up, hidden away emotions surfacing as you let it out. Jay let you cry as much as you wanted, handing you tissues and letting you hug him as long as you wanted. Before, he might have thought that you would be better off without him because you had a lot on your plate already, but now more than ever, he was sure that you needed him just as much as he needed you.
But he didn’t ask the question until you were finished with all of your competitions, until you were finished with all the celebrations for your gold medal in individual female archery and mixed archery alike and 4th in team archery, and until you were leaving behind the country.
Only as the stewardesses signalled that the plane was ready to depart in Seoul, did he dare to ask the question:
“Would you like to go on a date with me? A real one?”
The smile that you gave him was enough of an answer by itself, but when you confirmed that yes, you would be more than thrilled to go, he was the happiest person on Earth. Even if you managed to confuse Hanbin who was sitting on the other side of the aisle (after giving up his seat for Jay) by what you meant by a real date.
But he didn’t have to know that.

CHAPTER 10 >>> CHAPTER 11
Tumblr media
The street is bustling and teeming with people as you pay for the new mortar and pestle that you've been saving for a long time. The coins clink on the counter as you drop it on the wood. You hate to see your hard earned money go but you're glad that you have your very own mortar and pestle in exchange.
“Careful now it's heavy.” The old shopkeeper smiles at you.
“I've got it, thank you!” You heave the heavy stone in your small arms, waddling towards the door, struggling to open it with both arms occupied, a kind gentleman opens it for you and you smile politely, your mother didn't raise you to be rude after all. “Thank you, sir.”
“You're welcome.” The stranger says with a gruff voice, his large frame casts a shadow over you, fancy clothes making you gawk. Gold threads sewed into the finest cloth. His brown eyes only spares you a quick once over, tufts of chestnut hair flowing in the breeze, chiseled face turning towards the shopkeeper.
Walking out of the store, the door shuts closed behind you. Eyes still glued to the rich man, someone taps you on your shoulder.
“Careful, kid, that one can and will buy you if you don't stop gawking.” Sherry, an old neighbor of yours warns you. Her husband shushes her, eyes rolling at her gossiping. “Don't you shush me, Mickey, I'm right y’know!”
“The bloke's right there, love!” Mickey whisper shouts, he turns towards a customer, scowl disappearing, smiling politely over the vegetable stand.
You notice some people whisper too, from the butcher across the street to the florist on your right. Their main topic is the mysterious rich man in the store you just left.
Sherry clicks her tongue, slyly beckoning you over, whispering close in your ear. She smells of lettuce and cigars.
“Listen, girl,” you nod, trusting the adult. “you better get home ‘cause word around town is that wanker right there is a skin trader.” She says the word with malice. “See his fancy dancy clothes? He got ‘em from selling children like yourself.”
“What's a skin trader?” You ask, eyes wide and concerned. The mortar and pestle gets heavier in your arms.
“Didn't dear old mum warn you about ‘em?”
“Stop scaring the poor child, Sher.” her husband warns, busy with a line of customers while his wife gossips with a thirteen year old.
“This ‘ere is a private conversation, Mickey!” She turns back towards you, “Jus’ be careful, kiddo. I like you, you've got ‘em magic hands with them herbs. I don't want you gettin' sold off to a noble house, yeah?” you nod, “Stay away from him and you'll be good.” Shrugging, she pats your head.
“I don't think my mum would sell me.” You say with a small voice, fingers grazing over your necklace that's tucked under your blouse.
She scoffs, “tell that to little John, he was sold off for a bag of coins a few days ago.”
“Sher.” Mickey warns as your blood runs cold.
You know John, you've played with him a few times even though he runs his mouth like a sailor. Now you know why you haven't seen him around town. Nerves alight, you stay away from the shop's door.
Home calls for you, but you still have other errands to run.
“I've gotta go, thank you, Sherry.” You start to walk away with heavy strides and worry written on your face. She won't do that right? You thought. She loves me like her own, she can't— won't do that to me.
Mickey calls you back, “oh Y/N, grab a few of these for you and your mum, yeah? I know they're your favourite.” he smiles, putting a handful of cherry tomatoes inside the mortar.
“Thank you!” You smile, “It's her favourite too!”
“Aye, I know.”
His wife slaps him upside the head, “the fuck you mean ‘you know?’”
You leave before you get stuck in the middle of their argument. In your peripheral, you see the well dressed man leave the store without buying anything, he walks over to Sherry and Mickey. You don't stay long to hear their conversation.
Despite hurrying home, you end up walking towards the cabin with the sun already setting. Leaves crunch under your foot as you yawn, but your smile stays on your lips, happy enough that you have your newly purchased instrument in your arms, even though it's extremely heavy combined with the old canvas bags on your shoulder full of supplies you and your mother needed for the rest of the month.
Finally seeing the small cabin makes you weary, wanting to lay down in bed until she calls you for supper. Based on the smoke billowing from the chimney, you guess she already started cooking for dinner.
The heavy door creaks open as you push it open with your shoulder. “Mum, Mickey gave us cherry tomatoes! And you can't believe what I just heard—”
You freeze in the doorway, your mortar and pestle falls in your arms, clanging loudly on the wooden floor, it splits in half as the cherry tomatoes tumbles out of the mortar.
There he stands, the same well dressed man handing your guardian that you call mother, loved like your own mother, hugged like your own mother a bag of coins. They both pause in their movements.
The man cages you with his stare, an unreadable expression on his face, hazel eyes reflecting the fire in the hearth, turning it to crimson.
“Mum?” you frown, tears brimming in your eyes.
She can't, she won't but she still did it.
“Y/N, this is—”
“How could you?” You ask, broken, heart left split in half like the mortar on the floor.
She looks at you apologetically, hand reaching towards you instinctively. Your home seems to suffocate you.
The man exhales sharply like he's in pain. “I passed by her a few hours ago. She looks just like—”
You don't let him finish.
Bolting away with only the clothes on your back and the spare change in your pockets, you run as fast as you can without looking back.
“Love?” Hobie says it tenderly that you thought he was calling for someone else, again. “Love?” He calls a bit louder.
Hobie wakes you up back to reality, back to his hold. His thumb wipes the tears sliding down your cheeks, eyes glazing over. He sits on the edge of the pool, the fire next to him warming his drenched clothes whilst you float with only his hand anchoring you near him.
“I'm sorry.” He whispers.
You twist around in the water, arms placed on the ground next to him, fingers twisting around the frayed thread on his pants. Chin resting atop your elbow, you watch the fire crackle and burn timber.
Hobie's hands slide over to your nape, caressing softly, hoping it would make up for what you've lived through. He knows it doesn't, but he still wants to try.
After minutes of silence and listening to your soft sniffles, the warmth of the afternoon sun and fire illuminating your deep frown and tear stained cheeks. Hobie breaks the quiet.
“MJ—” for a second you thought he's calling you by her name again, and it shatters your heart all over again. “She…she was—”
“Don't tell me just because I told you mine.” You look up at him with sadness underneath your eyes. “Only tell me when you're ready.” He nods, squeezing you in thanks. “I told you mine because someone else has to know, just in case—”
Hobie knits his eyebrows. “In case of what?”
In case I die, in case I decide to stay on the island and you leave. In case, in case. You have a lot of them but you spare him the heartache. He'd do the same. Someone has to know your story, that's how you can live forever, you remember her old words.
You shake your head, “nothing.”
He understands, “alright, keep your secrets.” flicking his eyes down, he observes your fingers mindlessly playing with its thread. “Stop tryin’ to take my trousers off, you can just ask.”
You chuckle softly, the first time he's heard it since you sobbed in his arms a week ago.
“You wish, Hobie.”
He dramatically clasps his hands together, eyes closed like he's in prayer. “I wish Y/N would just ask me to take my trousers off.” He laughs, almost not finishing his own joke because of it.
You pinch his leg, earning a yelp from the pirate captain. “You always say something that ruins the moment.”
“You were chuffed though”
“Mm-hmm.”
He looks towards the beach right in between the trees. “It's finally low tide. C’mon, scuttlebutt, I've got somethin' to show you.” He stands up, giving you a helping hand.
“I swear if it's another pair of crabs fucking—”
“That was one time, get up or we might get stranded.”
“We're already stranded.” he frowns at your words.
You've been down since the night you cried in his arms. He's worried, properly so, used to the embers in you, used to the loud banter, it's only right that he worries. You're on your last legs, everything that has happened managed to catch up to you, and for him it's crawling up his neck like a swarm of ants, biting and nipping at him. But you're the priority, his priority, if you fall then he would tumble harder, landing on his face with a sickening crunch.
He doesn't mind, not finding it cumbersome, because you'd do the same for him too. Or he hopes you will.
Hobie has tried everything to make you feel better, caught fish the right way even though it made his blood boil with impatience and frustration. Shot at a seagull with the last of his bullets for a variety of meat that only made you sob for how tough it was. Not even chocolate can brighten your mood nowadays. He even postponed leaving the island until you're back to your usual self. But he knows you two can't stay here forever or the ants might finally reach his head, gnawing at his cheek, eating through his skin. Or worse, kill the fire inside you.
As a last resort, he has thought of a plan, although it's a gamble, a toss of a coin, whether or not it might make you feel worse or better then it all depends on how he acts. Hope is his main choice of weapon yet hope can kill you too.
Hobie huffs, crouching down to face you. His voice is soft. “We're not stranded, we're leaving tomorrow but before we do I have somethin’ to show you.” You look up at him with a frown.
You don't even want to leave anymore. What's waiting for you once you get on land? Nothing, nothing's waiting for you, just more longing for a family you might have and you might never have. And you're frightened at what awaits you.
“Do you want to really leave?” You ask forlornly.
“As much as I love our days here surviving, we have to leave eventually.” He's not sure either, he wants to stay with you but he has responsibilities to the crew and you. He knows you can't stay here or he might never see the fire blaze inside you again. “All I know is my crew might be waitin’ for us, yeah? Now get up.”
Might and Us, the words are a mind killer for you recently.
“Y/N, I know it's hard,” he cups the back of your head. “But you have to stand up, could you do that for me? I'll walk with you the entire time, I promise.”
“What if—?”
“Don't, remember what I told you? Don't let ‘em kill you for the second time.” His eyes bore into you. “Please? C’mon you even got me sayin’ please.”
With an exhale, you manage to clasp your hand in his. Hobie lifts you up to your feet. Water sloshes as you leave the pool, clothes drenched, air making you shiver.
“You hang around me too much.” Hand still in his, he leads you out to the eastern side of the island. “You've become too polite.”
“Is that supposed to be horrible?” Hobie takes his hand away for a moment to grab his vest that's hanging from a branch. “You're not even that polite.” he drapes it over your shoulders, taking your hand back in his hand.
Your heart thuds loudly in your chest, his scent clinging to you like the heat on your cheeks. You put your arms inside, wearing his vest proudly like a medal. Laying your cheek on his shoulder, he laces his fingers around yours, squeezing it tenderly.
It all seems natural to you now, all the wordless affection and care that you both act upon. You know this won't last the moment you two leave the island. So you savour it as much as you can, letting all of it linger in your mind, tucking it away until you need to relive it along the way.
“I'm polite,” you walk on soft leaves to grainy sand, the low tide providing a way towards a smaller island with rocky terrain. The sun beams just behind it, it's a beautiful sight but Hobie's eyes are on you. “If I want to.”
“Sure you are.”
He moves your intertwined hands behind him so he could exchange it with his unoccupied hand, holding you close. Like a moth to a flame, you half embrace him, hand on top of his waist, grasping softly at his skin, memorizing every indent. His warmer hand rests atop yours, while the other has managed to snake around your shoulder, pulling you impossibly closer to him.
Like broken pieces of a shattered glass, you fit together.
Hobie drowns in all of you. Your scent and touch leaving a mark on him, not like a scar that says that you've hurt him in the past, no, it's much more like a wound, a wound that he'd gladly let fester just so he can revisit you, revisit how you look like when you smile or cry, revisit how your soft palms touches his marred flesh.
He'd poke, prod and bleed the wound just to feel your touch again.
It's a lot harder to walk entangled together on the sandy bridge that connects your island to the other, but you two don't seem to mind as you leave your footprints on the sand.
“We have a couple of hours to explore before high tide or we'll get stuck here for an entire day.”
Would that be so bad?
You hum, “explore what?” Voice muffled by his shirt, he rubs softly at your upper arm, warming you.
“You'll see, I know you'll like it.”
“Great, you're gonna kill me.” You joke monotonously.
“Never,” he whispers into your hair. “I'd do it on our island instead.”
You chuckle, “how would you do it?”
“Stake to the heart.” You almost didn't understand him whilst his face is buried in your hair. “Classic.”
“Or you could choke me with the pomegranate seeds.”
“You'd like that, huh?” you can feel his smirk atop your head and you swear he kissed you faintly like a feather landing on you.
“I don't mind dying by fruit. Better yet, death by chocolate.”
“I'd mind, it would be hard to do that. Just think of the bloody logistics.” you two stop walking, finally reaching the tiny patch of land.
“For a second there I thought you didn't want me to die.” He leans away, hand still clasped in yours.
“That too.” You smile at him genuinely. Hobie enters the crevice in the wall, jagged rocks against his calloused hands. “C’mon then.” He holds his hand out to you and you don't hesitate to take it.
“Oh you're definitely gonna kill me.”
His laugh bounces around the cavern as you two shimmy towards the light at the far end of the tight alcove. Darkness soon envelops your vision. His piercings shine, acting as your guide. Like a ship to a lighthouse.
“It's a bit dark, Hobie.” Your voice echoes, concern laced in your voice. Not questioning your trust in him but concerned for what the dark could reveal to you.
“I've got you, just keep holding on to me, yeah?”
You sniff a reply, the dampness from the stone makes your nose itch from the musk.
Your feet splashes on a puddle, almost yelping at the sudden wetness. He holds on to you tighter while the rocks scratch at your back.
Hobie pauses before making way for you to pass through, making sure you don't trip on the way out.
The light almost blinds you as you finally make it to the end. Eyes adjusting, you squint at Hobie's gleeful face.
“We're here.”
Just behind Hobie is a massive ship, half of its hull is missing, mast broken, white sails fluttering aimlessly. There's something eerie about it, from how the sun's light filters through the cracks in the cavern ceiling, to the chipping golden paint that decorates the sides; barnacles have made a home on the broken bottom and crabs skittering away to its crevices. The sodden wood is inflated from the currents, wear and tear evident on its oak. It's gorgeously morbid when you think about the people who might've perished right there.
“Whose ship is this?” Your words echoes and bounces off the cave. You'd be lying if you didn't think it was the revenge for a split second, if not for its unfamiliar figure head, you'd collapse right on the spot.
“Don't know, I think It's navy but it doesn't have their flags so probably a merchant ship.” He comes closer to you, palm brushing over yours. “Look over there.” He glances behind you.
Turning around, you see several tally marks on the wall, an indication that someone survived. You glide your hands carefully over the marks, eyes curious and in disbelief.
“I counted, they were here for six months.”
You whirl around, “six? Fuck.”
“They got out though.”
You knit your brows. “How'd you know?”
“Come with me?”
“To the ship? It looks like it's about to collapse any second.”
“I tried climbing it, it's stable.” Hobie reaches for you, and again you take his hand.
“If I fall I'll blame you.”
“Thought you're good at climbin’?”
“Houses and trees, not a dilapidated ship that's more than ready to be scrapped. That thing looks older than us combined.”
“Fine, I'll climb up first and I'll help you up. Deal?”
“Christ, fine, but you owe me the rest of the chocolate.” you watch him climb a crate, effortlessly reaching the ledge of the deck, hauling himself up quicker than you thought. “Show off.” You say under your breath.
“Heard that.” Hobie peeks down, “the chocolate's all yours, now get your arse up here.” he crouches down, hands at the ready to help you up.
Copying his movements, you jump up, he immediately grabs you. Putting your foot up in a crack for leverage and with Hobie's help, you manage to get up onto the deck.
You sit next to him, stretching your wrists.
“See, not too bad, right?” The wood creaks right as he says it. “Maybe we shouldn't sit or stand on the same floor board.” He stands up but before giving you space to lessen the strain on the old wood, he helps you up once again.
“Thanks, I can stand up on my own y’know.” Yet you still take his hand.
“I know, I just don't like it when you're on the ground, you always look like you're about to bite my ankles.”
You laugh and he smiles triumphantly. The sound echoes, it reminds Hobie of the days spent together on the revenge.
“That's true, It takes every bone in my body not to.”
He smiles lopsidedly, shaking his head at you. “I have to show this to you.” He exclaims excitedly. “Just be careful of where you step.”
You pause in your movements, “shit, alright.” testing the floorboards, you slowly clamber your way towards him. “How'd you even find this place? Did you go spelunking without me?”
“Found it on our second day, thought you wouldn't like to see a broken ship like this so soon.”
You smile softly at him, heart reaching towards him and he thinks he chose right.
Hobie opens a barrel, “Look at this, found it when I actually explored the place.”
You take a peek inside, hands leaning on the barrel. “Dried pomegranates? Look at that, your murder weapon.” flicking your eyes towards him, a teasing smile on your lips.
He huffs with a grin, hands placed on his hips. “So violent. You've been hanging around me too much eh, captain?”
“Hmm, I like the sound of that, Captain Y/N. It has a nice ring to it” chuckling, your hands instinctively inch over to his. He meets you halfway on the rim of the barrel, pinky intertwined with yours. “You wanna sleep separately from now on? Since we spend too much time together and all that.”
Hobie scoffs, sucking in his teeth. “Please, you can't sleep without me now.”
It's true, you've spoiled yourself with his warmth next to you every night.
Rolling your eyes, feigning offense, you change the subject. “What's with the pomegranates?”
“They planted it, using their own supplies.”
“Cute, they left a piece of themselves on the island.”
“More than that, because of ‘em we get to eat the fruit they planted. They helped us survive.”
You shake your head, “no, you helped us survive. You did all the work, Hobie.” Taking his hand, standing toe to toe with him, you stare at his eyes for too long that you drown in his eyes. “I never got to thank you for…everything. Thank you, captain, truly.”
His breath hitches in his throat. Warmth emanating from you, eyes sparkling under the sparse light and sand clinging to your hair, he feels himself carve your name on his skin; right next to hers, right next to the scar she left.
“I rendered the great Captain Hobie Brown speechless. I think I deserve some kind of medal for that—”
Hobie cups your cheeks with both hands, leaning in, the act has you shutting up immediately.
You hear wood cracking underneath your feet. You were above deck then a second later, you're groaning on the floor, laying on his chest, facing a skeleton.
“Oh fuck!” You flinch back, Hobie holds you in place with a hand on your waist. Straddling him, you look at the decaying skeleton on the floor. “Shit—” you notice the body under you. “Oh shit!” Holding his face, you roam your eyes for any visible injuries.
“You should write poetry, you have a way with words.” He says with a wince, peeking at you through his eyelashes, he pats your thigh and you get off his aching body.
“Are you alright?” you ask frantically, checking the back of his head for blood, thankfully you find none. Panic sets in your bones, crawling on all fours, you smack his leg.
“Ow! What the fuck was that for?” Hobie sits up, with his legs moving, you can finally breathe.
“I thought your legs—” the wood creaked above, eyes widening at the barrel tethering on the edge, threatening to fall.
With Hobie still shaky from the fall, you grab him quickly, dragging him away from the falling object at the last minute before it collapses on both of you.
He grips your arm, staring at the space where you two were just in a second ago. The heavy barrel now occupies it, dried pomegranates spilling out from the split wood.
“Holy fuck.” He heaves.
You drop next to him, sliding down on the rotten walls. “Holy fuck is the right word for it.” he cranes his neck to look at you. “Death by pomegranates.”
You two watch your faces morph into a smile then into a grin and then to full blown laughter.
The loud noise scares the crabs away, dust flies around and there's splintered wood laying on the floors. Despite it all, you and Hobie continue to laugh. His head laying on your chest, hand around your middle and the vibrations from his chest making you laugh harder. With your hands around his torso, fingers splayed on his back, the both of you meld together in laughter.
“Mystery solved, that's how I could die by pomegranates. Take notes, Hobie.”
He inhales before leaning away, “you saved my arse.”
“Well you saved me too, we're even.”
Hobie thumps his head on the wall just like you have. His hand searches for yours while he stares at the skeleton left next to the barrel.
You find him first before he does, immediately weaving your fingers around his, you smile despite the near death experience.
“How would you do it?” He breaks the quiet.
“Do what?” you turn your head to look at him, he's calm, face relaxed.
“Kill me.”
“Hobie—” you groan.
“Humour me, love.”
“Fine,” you sigh, “poison probably.”
“Poison? Really?” Chuckling, he clasps your hand. Your stomach somersaults at the simple act.
“Mm-hmm, I figured that I can't possibly fight you, I can't shoot you so I'd do it in a subtle way. So, poison.”
“Fuckin' hell, I'll never let you cook.” Hobie turns his head towards the skeleton again like it would suddenly stand up and attack.
“You never let me cook anyway.”
“It's because you always burn it.”
“‘It's because you always burn it’” you mock his tone, “fuck off.”
Hobie guffaws which makes you laugh too.
The laughter subsides once again, he taps your thigh, leaving his warmth embedded in you.
“He has a nice hat,” groaning, Hobie stands up, stretching his back, giving you a glimpse of his skin.
You turn away, watching the pomegranate seeds tumble down. “Who?”
“This bloke.” He bends down, taking a tricorn hat off the dirty floor. “See? There's even a bird on it. Is that silver thread?”
“Let me see.” You stretch your hand up, he lifts you up with one tug.
“There, stitched around the bird.” Hobie points at the fading design.
You can barely make out the emblem, its beak barely there and wings almost indistinguishable. The silver thread weaves around it, the only fully visible thing.
Brushing the pads of your fingers around it, you tilt your head at Hobie. “I think it is, and it's incredibly filthy. Put it back, it's been here for more than twenty years or more.”
“How would you know?” He stares at you, perplexed.
“Judging from the decay,” you gesture around the skeleton, figuring it's too rude to point at it. “and adding the fact it's exposed to the elements, it's been here a long ass time.”
Hobie’s eyes brighten, “you fuckin' bookworm.”
Sticking your tongue at him, cheeks warm, “How'd you know the survivors got out of the island then?”
He shrugs, hands still holding the musty hat. “They left a note on top of a couple of graves just behind the ship.”
“Bullshit, now you're just making shit up.”
He chuckles, the sound similar to a giggle. “‘m not lyin’, cross my heart!”
“Sure, and I'm a selkie.” Sarcasm rolls off your tongue, “I'm going outside.” You begin to walk away, finding the space stifling from all the dust and death that surrounds it.
He quickly places the hat on top of your head and you jump away, flinging it off your head then throwing it at the perpetrator.
“What?” He laughs, “It looks better on you! He clearly doesn't need it anymore!” joking, he tries to put it on you again and you push him away as a warning.
Your smile betrays your true emotion. “Don't—”
“Alright” Hobie surrenders, placing the hat back where he found it, hands next to his head, he slyly inches towards you.
“Thank you, now can we go? High tide’s coming—”
He suddenly lunges for you, picking you up as you yelp and wiggle in his arms. His arm is underneath your knees, the other is around your torso, hands placed right above your ribs. You drown in him once again. Cackling, he walks towards the hole in the wall.
“Put me down!” you bunch up his shirt in your hands, “Hobie!”
“What? I'm taking you outside, it's clearly not safe here, love!” Your squirming has him holding onto you tighter. He grins widely, carefully squeezing out of the broken hull and into the light and fresh air.
Being this close to him, you notice the small dimples on his cheeks. Restraining yourself from poking it, you can't help but stare up at him like he's the sea himself. Deep and full of secrets, secrets that you're more than willing to dive for. A terrifying force on the surface but once you're underneath the tides, you see his true self, all the love he harbors for the people, all the hate that has made him who he is.
With his waves crashing against you, he smoothens your edges with his touch, if you're not careful, he'd erode you until you're nothing but a speck of sand.
Hands atop his shoulders, Hobie stops laughing the second he sees your eyes gleam over, nails digging into his shoulders, leaving half moons on his skin. He doesn't mind, he'd let you mark him if that's what you truly want.
“You alright?” He whispers, staring down at you like the sky above, beautiful and out of reach, a cloud soft and fleeting, stars that guide him in the night. A hurricane that has sunk ships. He thinks he's one of those ships.
You wonder if he used to look at her like this too. Your hold on him loosens.
“Don’t look at me like that.” You say, voice quivering. His face goes slack, eyebrows furrowed. “Like I'm her, you know I'm not her.”
You've struck him with lightning.
You leap off his arms, wobbling on your feet. He stretches his fingers, ghosting over the shape you've left.
“What do you mean?” He asks even though he's afraid of what you're going to say.
You smile bitterly. “I remind you of her. And I'm not her, Hobie.”
“I— where is this coming from?”
Sniffing and shaking your head, “nevermind” you begin to walk towards the exit.
“Y/N,” Hobie grabs your hand, letting go immediately when you flinch like he has burned you. “Not bloody nevermind, what's wrong?”
Gwen and Hobie's arguing finally escapes its cage, their angry words thrown at each other have finally eaten through the back of your head, revealing a wound that hasn't closed. Together with the numerous times he has called her name instead of yours, you collapse under all of it.
He loves her and not you.
You avoid the swirling greys, arms crossed, head down, staring at your worn out shoes. It's better this way you think, cut it off like a lame limb before it spreads to your heart. You're letting him go, and it pains your soul to do so.
“You only like me because of the circumstances.”
“What the fuck does that mean?” Hobie's not mad at you, he's angry at the conversation and the idea that you've dug up.
Does he? Does he only like you because of her? Did he only let you in at the start because of her? He only knows what he currently feels for you right now.
“You like me because of the circumstances! If we weren't stuck here together you wouldn't be.” A thunderstorm has broken through.
“After all this time together do you really think that?” He asks the question for you and for himself.
Your hands shake, tears almost spilling over. You don't let it, not in front of him. “You tolerate me.” twisting to face him, you regret the words you've thrown, but it has to be said or the relationship would've been built on lies and love for another. “You called me by her name when I fell and when you slept. I–I don't know, Hobie, I really don't know.”
There it is, the knife that was made to split skin and bleed. Instead of Hobie holding it, it's you. But he helps you bury the steel in his body, helping you twist it, helping you bleed him.
“You were there?” You nod, “I— you do remind me of her… it's uncanny sometimes.” You stifle a sob, head held up high. “And I don't fuckin' know, Y/N. All I know is I like you despite the bloody circumstances.”
Hobie closes his eyes, rubbing it with the heels of his palms. “I'll see you back at the island.” He leaves, and you just watch.
Falling to the ground, you hug your knees, letting it all crumble around you.
You haven't slept, bags under your eyes, headache pounding in your head, the sound of soil getting dug out behind you has become a comfort not a nuisance.
You haven't looked at the source of the sound since he started, letting his quiet curses and groans fill you with sadness and guilt. With the sun rising, and a new day coming, you sit up, palms raw from your clenched fists.
He tried to do something nice and you threw it back at him with venom.
Heading towards the shore, kneeling down, you let the salt wash over the crescent wounds. Wincing at the stinging pain, you lift your hands away from the water, lingering, watching the sun rise with heavy eyes. The humidity stifles you, choking you almost.
You clutch at your chest, imagining that your necklace is still hanging around your neck. Wishing for the comfort it brings, but the gold isn't there and the only comfort you have is now cold around you, avoiding your presence since yesterday. The closest thing you have is the pearl in your pocket, so you place your hand inside, rolling the smooth edges around your fingers, letting the cool surface ease you.
With a shaky sigh, you trudge towards the grove, grass grazing along your legs, you stand stiff at the sight.
Graves, he's digging graves.
Covered in dirt and sweat, Hobie digs a hole in the ground using a sharp stick. Lips wobbling, you let a tear fall before wiping it away.
“Hobie.” You call his name softly, voice breaking. He doesn't look up, you notice his arms shaking from fatigue. “Hobie.”
He pauses mid dig, “what?” Asking sharply, his eyes are dark, worse for wear. “Don't ask me to stop, Y/N, because I won't.”
“I was gonna ask if you needed help—want my help.”
Hobie tosses a stick at you, “this is the last one.”
Nodding, you grab the stick from the ground. Jumping down the hole, you wordlessly dig across him. The rough wood opens the scratches on your palms, dribbles of blood rolling down like the tears you've shed.
“Is this Finn's?” you ask with apprehension.
Nothing.
“Ned’s?”
Still nothing, he swallows thickly.
“Mine?”
Hobie stops, sighing, “Do you really think I can do that just because of yesterday?” Do you think he is a monster?
“No. I was trying to lift the mood, I realize now it's in poor taste.”
“I would have laughed if we weren't digging a grave.”
“Graveyard humour.” you say flatly, stabbing the ground, digging even when your palms bleed, even when your blood falls inside the grave.
Hobie exhales, eyes heavy with fatigue, dirt underneath his nails.
“You want to stay.” he says with certainty, cutting the uncomfortable silence.
“I do.”
“You won't survive here alone.”
“I know.”
“Then we'll come back here, once everything is said and done.” He looks at you, “we'll come back here.”
“Hobie—”
His eyes flicker down to your hands, the stick now red from your own hands. “You're bleedin’”
With concern he drops the makeshift shovel to cross the small distance, slowly taking your hands away from the tool. Your skin clings to it like the roots of a tree.
“It's fine.”
Hobie clutches your hands, palms above your own, trying to stop the bleeding. “No, it's not.” No, you're not fine.
“It's just from…everything. I'll clean them so they don't get infected.” you try to leave but he still holds you tight.
“I'll clean it.” Let me help, please. He screams inside his head. Just this once, let him stop the blood instead of the one bleeding you dry.
You glance at him, lines marring his face, grey eyes laid upon a bloodied field. Lips pursed into worry.
“Alright.”
The silence makes you squirm in your seat, watching the waves on the shore, you let him clean your hands, trust him to clean your wounds.
Hobie carefully wraps your hands with a tattered part of his shirt. He smells of the familiar herbs and soil, eyes glued to your bandaged hands, he finally speaks.
“She was killed in front of me.” His voice lacks the usual tone, grief weaved around the sentence. “When the black helion sailed next to us I knew that she was already gone.”
You look at him, it's the least you could do.
“She called for me while Mathias had his sword right next to her neck. And I cowered under the deck until she asked with a smile if she could see me.”
Listening with tears in your eyes, Hobie avoids yours.
“The second I showed myself…he cut off her head. At first I thought it was her last attempt at hurting me, seeing her dead. But after a while I… I think she wanted me to be the last thing she ever saw because she grinned like she used to when she saw me.”
He raises his head to meet your tearful eyes, “Mary Jane, that was her real name.” He chokes before inhaling deeply. “An orphan like me but she got the wrong end of the bloody stick.” He spits the words angrily. “She wanted an out, that's why she went to Mathias. We fought when she told me she was navy, but I knew…I think I just didn't want to believe it.”
Your heart breaks for him.
“I want to avenge her not just for MJ but for everyone else who got the wrong end of the bloody stick. Thirty of my men died that day, I can grieve for them everyday for the rest of my life but it wouldn't be enough. It will never be enough.”
Hobie lets your hands go softly on your lap.
“It's better to be angry than to wallow in myself. They wouldn't like that if I did so I let myself be angry for their sake.”
You reach for him, surprising himself, he welcomes your touch. Holding his face like you hold the entire world in your palms, you kiss the corner of his eyes softly, encouraging him to cry.
Laying your forehead against his, you whisper the words to him like a secret shared between two lovers.
“Let me be angry for you just this once, e–even if it's just for today, let me carry it for you. And I'll be angry for you if you ask. Just ask me, Hobie.”
“Just for a minute.” He whispers back.
“Alright, just for a minute.”
Hobie drops his head on your shoulder, hiding his face from the world, arms enclosed around your torso, you let him cry.
You help Hobie bury the empty graves. Pomegranates and colourful flowers on top of each one except for the three at the very back. You whisper goodbyes to each one, giving Finn's, Ned's and the crew he lost with extra attention and extra love.
You leave a bar of chocolate on top of Finn's grave, his name written on a piece of driftwood. ‘beloved friend’ you've written under his name then you realize it's not enough to describe him, so you write ‘best chef in the world’ next to it, laughing to yourself once you finish it.
“I think he'd like it” Hobie said whilst he places the folded sail on top of Ned’s empty grave. He wrote next to his name, ‘a shit lyricist but a good friend, beloved by everyone’ and you sobbed wetly at the words.
You just stare at the graves for the men you killed, imagining them rotting under it. They were once children, you thought, but you don't regret it, because you lived because of what you did, lived because of what you endured.
Just as you're leaving the thicket, giving the crew one last goodbye, you watch Hobie write her name and you leave, giving him privacy.
You wait for him patiently under the trees, right next to the raft full of supplies you've gathered. Eyes downturned, cheeks stained with tears, you hear the rustle of leaves from behind and you don't mention the missing necklace from his neck.
“Ready to go?” He asks.
No.
“Yes.”
Hobie goes around the raft to push, you copy him.
“Is that—?” He stops, hand above his eyebrows, shielding it from the sun. “Holy shit.”
You follow his line of sight, perplexed, until you see five figures waving wildly at you.
“It's them” Hobie looks at you with relief and you almost weep once again.
“It's them.”

To me, one of the funniest things in Power Rangers is Prince Phillip's character arc.
Tumblr media
He had one (1) encounter with monsters (which included him being: threatened, pinned down, thrown about and almost killed), seeing the Rangers (one of which being the "long-dead" famous Knight who protected his ancestors and immediately recognised him as "his" Prince) fight said monsters and see them use their Zords to beat the crap out of Fury.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This guy immediately deciding: fuck yeah! I wanna do this again! Screw being a Prince I wanna fight monsters and ride in giant robots with my sexy Knight and new bestie the Caveman! And then proceedes to accquire several dinosaur skulls until he finally found an Energem. Which considering he wouldn't have even known which dinosaurs to look for, must've been a lot. He was blowing his money on fossilised lizard heads just so he could wear spandex and kick ass. Not to mention the man has been TRAINING! He learned martial arts just so he could kick ass whenever he wanted. Respect.
Tumblr media
Then he had his little arc when he realises he can't just spend money on whatever he wants to be worthy of being a Ranger. Which is fair. And hilarious because it extends so much further than him essentially renovating Amber Beach (see: fossilised lizard heads). But then he saves Chloe Randall and is finally seen as worthy...and IMMEDIATELY kicks ass! No hesitation. Princey is in it for the long haul! But then he realises "ah shit, still have a kingdom to run. But call me whenever you need me! Or just to chat because I'm the only adult other than Kendall and she'll definitely wanna vent about these guys some time. I can tell.". Also I think he just got pseudo-adopted by Keeper.
And then he comes back in another episode to essentially buy the museum so they don't go into debt and lose the base. I mean, technically he's just telling Ivan that the gold he left in the bank 800 years ago made him rich so he can save his friends, but Phillip somehow knew all this from Europe. He knew the museum was shutting down in America from Europe. And none of the team even told him!
Tumblr media
(NEWS: Prince of Zandar caught just casually having lunch with his spandex besties in the middle of nowhere, America. Looks annoyed he got interrupted. More at 5.)
His other iconic exploits including:
-Telling the others that his scientists have confirmed the Silver Energem is not on earth. Which means he's been telling people. About the Energems. GDI Phillip you had ONE JOB!
-Willingly dressing up as a mummy-security guard to save the others from being vaporised during Intergalactic Court, going trick-or-treating with everyone afterwards like the Prince he is
-Seeing a Vivix (who is actually a human girl trapped in it's body) with makeup on and having the most disgusted look on his face. He did not hesitate.
-He, Kendall, James and Zenowing being the team adults. A.K.A. the only ones who own a sense of self-preservation. Which is funny, because Phillip is ready to throw hands 110% of the time. He's just good at hiding it. Keeper has him clocked though
-He hasn't canonically done this one but now the museum is now a dinosaur zoo, you know damn well Kendall had to let him take the Pachycephalosaurus back to Zandar with him because he was bugging her about it
Tumblr media
So? Prince Phillip III of Zandar is the underrated King of my heart. If you just focus for a minute you can see that he's actually unhinged and he's making it everyone's problem. Man knew damn well what he wanted out of that Energem and got even more. Phenomenal.
Tumblr media
They did not have to make the British Prince a Power Ranger but I'm so glad they did.

Tumblr media
Alright, Sherlock, we get it. Cellphone chargers, etc, etc.
Tumblr media
Dwarf stinky.
But let's be real, Senshi probably smells like cooking oil.
Tumblr media
is..... is the Japanese guy not human by virtue of being 'eastern'? What?????? 😂 I hope it's just this translation....
Tumblr media
Hmmm.. so Namari's family got a bad rep, and Laios and Falin took her in, but that means that no one would be willing to take her place? I mean, it's not as if they NEED a dwarf.... it's not as in the dwarf would know anything about previous dynamics... especially if he had been living off of dungeon monsters.........
Senshi is only dangerous to food, chill out bud.
Tumblr media
The dynamic here is..... sure something.
Tumblr media
The fact that they're fully mispronouncing his name makes so much more sense now.
Tumblr media
this boy straight up isekai'd himself to what. have his little DBZ plotline? Is that it?
Tumblr media
ah yes. the other type of Guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...y.....ya good?
Tumblr media
So Laios and Falin got swindled. You're saying they got swindled out of their money because they were trying to be kind. That's what you're saying? Just so that we're all on the same page.
Tumblr media
Guy Who Has HyperFixated on Reading People's Intentions Takes the Biggest L.
I mean, to be fair, I don't think Laios cares about people as much as he cares about Falin. But FALIN. come ON. FALIN!
Actually no, Laios agreed to return to the surface for his team instead of following Falin. He's a good egg. SLANDER!! THIS IS SLANDER!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyikes on spikes.
"This whole dungeon system is fucked up, am I right? Anyway. I'm going to buy Twitter take over, that will definitely fix things."
Tumblr media
GASP!! A BABY!!!
Tumblr media
Oh, the one this and the PREVIOUS chapter was named for? I'm glad it finally showed up!
Tumblr media
I cast STRENGTH SAVE! It's TERRIBLE! 😂
Tumblr media
👁👁
"her"....
Tumblr media
specced poorly, my man. It's a skill issue.
Tumblr media
who are you? I would die for you.
Tumblr media
This is.......a lot to take in at once. But that's definitely... that's the guy whose name they kept butchering, right? Right? He looks like he partook of the sake a bit too much recently but that's him, right? Why does he have a fangroup now?
Tumblr media
Yeah, this is what losing Falin does to people.
Although... this is also a skill issue. Marcile just used the pain to become a stronger, more fucked up version of herself. This guy needs to up his game.

why people bother with love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sawamura daichi x reader
wc: 9.2k
this is the longest fic that i've ever written, omg. i love daichi sm<33
also the story is inspired by taylor swift's song 'mine'! i was listening to it while on shuffle playlist and thought it was so good.
Tumblr media
a happy and lovely family.
it's the farthest from what your family was.
all your parents did was fight at every little thing that can be talked through.
it was also the reason why you and your siblings are not close with each other. they hide or run away whenever they're fighting, which means, always.
but, they did tell you once.
“they were so deeply in love with each other in the past.”
so, just in the past?
i don't understand.
“then, you shouldn't have spent it on useless things!”
your father's voice made your ears ring. it's in the middle of the night.
they're fighting again.
this is supposed to be a day for me. i just graduated from elementary school today.
“useless?! you call that useless?!” your mother shouted back.
you decided to get off of the bed and silently walk to where the voices are coming from, the kitchen.
“of course, it is!” your father replied.
“our daughter just graduated and you're saying that buying her a small gift is useless?!” your mother asked.
i knew it. it's about that.
you peeked from the opening in the living room which was connected to the kitchen.
“just tell her ‘congratulations!’ or anything! why bother spending money?! we're not rich!” your father rebutted.
“are you hearing yourself right now, huh?” your mother snickered. “what are you even mad about? it's not even over ¥500?”
“you could've used that ¥500 for something more important! like food stocks or bills!”
“her, graduating is important! don’t you dare not acknowledge your daughter’s milestone!”
maybe i should just give them back a ¥500 that i saved from my daily allowance? would that stop them from fighting?
“arhg! you and your obtuse actions!” your father slammed the counter with his balled fist.
“what?! you're one to talk! that stupid "friend" of yours who always borrows money from you! where is he now, huh? out there partying and spending the money you lent him! what did he say? "i'll give it back tomorrow!" i never once saw him return the money he borrows, yet you keep on giving and giving him! what are you, a bank?!” your mother snapped.
“shut up!” your father shouted and clicked his tongue. “you always bring that up! you're always like that! i'm tired of you already!”
“guess who's tired of you too?” your mother crossed her arms and stared at your father blankly.
“is that so? then i'm leaving and never going back here!” your father had enough and walked out.
he met your eyes and was surprised for a bit, but he continued walking to the front door.
you looked at your mother.
she still had her arms crossed above her chest, but she clenched her hands tightly and was biting on her lower lip.
“mom, are you not going to run after dad?” you stepped out from hiding.
your mother flinched, but she quickly realized that you must've heard the whole conversation already.
“why would i? it was his decision to leave! i don't care about him anymore! i'm glad i finally got tired of his ass!” she said and went to get water.
what?
you say that, but why do you look so hurt?
“your hands are quivering, mom.”
as your eyebrows furrowed, you heard the engine starting. you look at the door's direction and run towards it. when you stepped out, you saw your father just hopped on his mini truck.
he saw you running to him. he rolled his window down.
“dad, when are you coming back?” you asked him.
he just smiled achingly at you.
“sorry.” he muttered. you, confused, tilted your
“don't worry, i'd still be there for you, siblings.” he shortly answered.
“what about mom?” you questioned.
“i don't care anymore. i can't bring myself to love her anymore. sorry.” he said and grabbed the steering wheel tightly. he then said goodbye and drove off.
i don't understand.
“they were so deeply in love with each other in the past.”
did their love for each other fade away?
i really don't understand…
love…
“why does everyone bother with it if it never lasts?”
why do we need to fall in love, just to experience the anguish of losing the feeling of it?
•••
“hurry! hurry! their match is already starting!” your friend pulls your hand, as you follow her lead.
“okay, okay.” you answered with no enthusiasm.
what am i going to do there anyways? i don't even know the rules in volleyball.
“why are we watching a boys volleyball game in the first place?” you asked her.
“it's our school's team! they can represent miyagi in the spring high tournament, if they win against the team they're playing today.” she said,
okay, still didn't anyways why we should be here.
when you two reached the bleachers, your other classmates waved at you and pointed at the seat they reserved for you both.
the first set just finished when you arrived. you just used the cheering megaphone they handed you and just created some noise as the players walked on the court.
“kageyama-sama, do your best!” you heard your friend scream her heart out.
that answers my question. also, what do you mean, "-sama"? you're older than him, right?
you sighed and just continued cheering.
the umpire blew the whistle and signaled that the second set was starting. you watched as a guy with bowl-cut from the opposing team serves.
your eyes widened a bit seeing how hard he serves, you were so sure no one could receive it.
but, the guy was there to break your thoughts.
he easily receives it, making your eyes widened even more.
as soon as he received it, they ran towards the net and he hit the ball over the other team, earning them the first point of the set.
wow.
your mouth hangs open.
“h-hey,” you called for your friend's attention. “who was that?”
“who? the one who sets?! that's kageyama! he's a firs—”
“no, the one who hits the ball.” you immediately stopped her.
“oh, that's the captain, sawamura daichi, from class 4. i think he's friends with sugawara too.” she answered shortly, now that the topic is not kageyama anymore.
number 1… that means he's the captain, right?
the match continued and they won the set. they lost the third, but won the fourth.
you were hanging on your seat as the set, supposed to be just 15, goes over to 20 and you cling to your friend tightly as the final whistle was heard and karasuno was declared the winner.
“wah! kageyama-sama, congratulations!” your friend bawled out.
“he's amazing too, right?” you said as you clapped, seeing sawamura receive the trophy.
“of course! he's kageyama-sama's teammate, after all!” she said, still dragging kageyama to the conversation.
when it was time to move out, your friend said she needed to go to the toilet, so you went there with her.
as you two passed the entrance to the gym floor, you saw the black uniforms standing there.
oh, they're here.
“sugawara!” your friend suddenly shouted, calling for your classmates' attention. almost all of them looked in your direction. “congratulations!” she said,
“oh! thanks!” sugawara replied, waving his hand in the air with a big smile.
you thought you might as well congratulate your classmate.
“congratulations, sugawara.” you said, not as loud as your friend's voice, but enough for him to hear.
“ah! (y/n), thanks!” he thanked you.
you two then bowed to them and continued to go to the bathroom, all while your friend celebrated that he got kageyama's attention earlier too.
“okay, i got it already. just go and hurry up.” you shut her up when you reached the comfort room.
you just walked to a close bench to the bathroom and took a seat, waiting patiently for your friend to finish.
“hey,” you heard a voice say.
you're not sure whether they're talking to you or not, but you looked up at where it came from.
“you're…” you started and stood on your feet. “sawamura, right?”
“uh, yeah. i'm sawamura.” he said as he reached for his nape and rubbed it with his palms awkwardly.
“you were so awesome in the game earlier. congrats.” you told him and smiled.
“thanks. i actually think i look unsightly during the game, especially when i'm just running and moving on fumes.” he replied sheepishly.
“well, the fact that you think that and yet you still do it just shows how passionate you are about winning.” you uttered. “still, don't worry. you look cool.” you reassured him.
“really? that's a relief.” he said and sighs relievedly.
there was a few seconds of silence after that and you just stared at each other.
“um… why did you… uhm, approach me?” you asked.
he suddenly gets a bit of tint pink shade on his cheeks, that can be easily missed if you were not looking carefully. maybe the reason, you noticed it also was the fact that his bruised on his left cheeks got your attention.
“well, you see… we won against shiratorizawa.” he started and you hummed. “so, we're already qualified for the spring high, i was just wondering if you'll be watching there too.” he asked.
“why? is my presence needed there?” you confusedly asked, making him chortle.
“for me, it definitely does, haha.” he answered, straightforwardly.
it skipped a beat. my heart just did.
i know these feelings very well. it's the feeling i swore not to follow.
i know where these feelings would bring me to.
“i see. i'll look forward to it then.”
i should've declined back then.
•••
“ever since you moved here, it never got quiet here anymore!”
your old woman neighbor is once again shouting in front of your house.
she's always there and she always just does it whenever sawamura is at work or out for something. it was easy to know since she knows he's a police officer and the police car is not in the parking lot.
you continued to bite your lower lip.
trying to stop yourself from shouting back at the old woman was harder than you thought.
the neighbors said she has a mental disorder, but still her voice. her voice can easily break a plate or two.
normally, you would just ignore her until she leaves, but today you're not like those days. your menstruation started this morning, and the blood got onto the sheets, so you had changed it.
moving around irritates you, but you had no choice but to do the chores, before your husband arrives, since it's just you two in the house and you're off to work today.
speaking of your husband, you looked at the clock and saw the time.
‘where are you?’ ‘your shift should've finished a while ago.’ ‘can you go home already?’
you stared at your phone and waited for him to reply, but he didn't. you just stood up and went to the kitchen.
ah, she left. you thought as you managed to peek outside the window while you walked to the kitchen.
thank goodness, finally.
“guess, i should reheat this.” you muttered to yourself and sighed.
you placed the dinner you cooked, inside the microwave. as you wait for it, you remembered that you haven't looked at the mail today yet.
you hurriedly went outside and opened the mailbox.
“huh?” you were surprised to see the mails filled with bills that needed to be paid.
you groaned as you held the envelopes in hand.
it's the same envelope you receive every month, but somehow these envelopes are more irritating to you right now.
you just closed the mailbox and went inside. you one by one looked through the mail, while you walked back to the kitchen.
and every time you open one, your mood gets worse and worse.
“huh?! why is it so expensive?!” you shouted at the bill you're holding.
we need to spend our money more wisely, even if we're both working.
*ping*
you heard the microwave's sound go off. you immediately took it out forgetting to put on a mitt or even a pot holder.
“ouch!” you screamed. you hurriedly went to the sink and ran the water on it. “damn, what am i doing?”
“i'm home.” sawamura announced as soon as he stepped in.
he's home?!
“argh! wait–” you speed walked to the main door and saw your husband. “welc–”
you stopped mid-sentence when you saw what he's holding.
“uh, i saw a friend of mine while on my way home, that's why i was late, so i thought i should get you something.” he said and extended his arms, a bouquet of flowers in his hands.
you accepted it, staring at it with a forced smile.
“don't like it?” he asked as he kissed your temple and walked to the living room.
you followed him, still looking at the flowers.
“no… it's just—” you sighed. “you didn't have to buy something this expensive…” you muttered.
“so, you don't like it?” he asked as he took off his uniform.
“no, it's not like that. i'm saying you shouldn't have spent the money on something useless—” you said, but decided to just cut yourself off.
you sighed. “thank you, dai.” walking up to him to hug him.
he returned the embrace, but he knew something was wrong.
we could’ve used the money to pay off our bills instead. you thought as you let go from the hug.
sawamura, puzzled, still decided to just give you a bit of space and not to pry yet. he went to take a short shower, while you prepared the table.
while waiting for him to join you, you looked at the envelopes you were just looking at earlier. your eyes then went back to the bouquet that’s now sitting on the center table in the living room.
you breathed deeply.
am i getting ungrateful for not appreciating his effort on buying that?
you got on your feet and went to get it.
staring at it, you finally realized how pretty it was. also, it’s your favorite flower.
you can’t remember when was the last time you mentioned to him what your favorite flower was.
was it when we were on our first date?
you chuckled.
“that guy really knows how to put butterflies in my stomach.”
suddenly, you felt two cold arms wrapped around your waist. you felt him snuggle his nose on your nook of neck.
“dai, stop it. i'm reeking of sweat.” you chortled as you felt a bit tickled by his now growing stubble.
he buried his nose deeper and even inhaled your scent like a man who just regained his sense of smell.
“smells like a pheromone for me.” he replied and lifted you up.
hooking his arms behind your knees and walking to the table. he sat you down on the chair and took a seat adjacent to yours.
as he was about to scoop rice for both of you, you reached out to his cheeks and gave him a peck. he was taken aback, but then smiled at you. he held your hand on his cheeks and brought it to his lips, kissing the back of it.
“thank you for the flowers, dai.” you told him.
“anything for you, babe.” he answered.
maybe i was just thinking a bit too much about our bills. i should just appreciate that he got me these flowers.
“mrs. sawamura, please redo this.” your team leader sternly said.
you looked up from your desk and met with an eyes burning and a face that’s barely containing their anger.
“yes?” you asked while your hand was holding the lunch you were about to eat at the canteen.
“there are a lot of inaccurate reports and miscalculated estimates. what are you even doing? do you want our team to lose this project because of you?” she added and slammed the folder on your desk.
“but—” none of those are my jobs though.
i might probably have to add this to my piles of to-do work.
she was about to walk away, when she suddenly looked back.
“and i want them done today.” she said lastly, before walking back to her posts and leaving you with wide eyes.
all of this by today?!
“there’s no way i can finish this today.” you whispered and slumped your back to the chair.
i might need to stay for over time.
as you set your lunch box down on your desk, your phone vibrated. you pulled it out of your vest’s pocket and saw a message notification from your younger sister, who’s in college.
- we’re running out of mom’s medication. - she’s always staring and thinking about a lot of things, i’m afraid it might turn into depression. - and brother’s med maintenance too. - it’ll only last until tomorrow. - we need extra money, but i already used my income from my part-time job to pay off the debts when i borrowed money from my friend to pay for my tuition. she said she badly needed the money. -if you have extra money, can you send us some for your mother and brother? - i’ll try asking someone too.
you let out a frustrated sigh. you grit your teeth and lower your head.
just how bad will this day get?
you repositioned your body. taking deep breaths. you picked up your phone again and replied to your sister.
- no, it’s fine. i have some extra here. i received a bonus yesterday. i’ll send it to you and pay for the remaining balance on your tuition too. don’t forget their meds. let me know how much all in total. thanks for always looking out for them. take care there.
you put down your phone and covered your face with your hands.
well, there goes my bonus. i still haven’t paid for the other bills that i’m supposed to pay for.
“(y/n), you okay?” your workmate asked.
you just nodded and told him you’re okay.
i need to save money.
hours have passed since your supposed time to go home, but here you are redoing the whole project that wasn’t even your doing, yet forced to redo so.
“this… is wrong. who the hell put it here?” you said to yourself and immediately fixed it.
thankfully, you are already almost done with it. just a bit more and you can already give it to your team leader. she seemed to stay late too and was working on another project.
that doesn’t mean she should have me revise these mistakes when i wasn't even the one who did it.
“and… there! all done!” you raised your arms in the air and stretched your back.
“finally!” you expressed slumping your body to the chair with relief.
you immediately went to pass it to your leader. she didn’t even bother looking up at you and just said a monotone of “good work, you can go home now.” but, you could care less at this moment, you just want to get it over with and go home and take a bath and sleep.
as you were arranging your belongings, you remembered that you turned your phone off, in order to concentrate more.
you slid your bag on your shoulder and walked to the elevator. you waited for the phone to turn on. you’re the only one inside, so your mind wandered off while waiting to reach the ground floor and for your phone.
should i get a part time job too? ever since my brother got caught up in a motorcycle accident, it feels like money has been slipping out the moment i got them on my hands.
you heard a ping and the door finally opened, the same time as your phone turned on too. while walking to the door, your notifications got bombed with messages from your husband.
- can’t wait to have dinner with you <3 - i think i might arrive a bit earlier than our call time - the chief will let us out early today - i’ll be waiting for you, but you don’t have to rush, okay? - are you on ‘do not disturb’ mode? - okay, you might be busy right now - good luck on your work, i love you
- i just got out, i’ll be passing by the house for a moment to change the car and maybe take a quick shower too - still no reply? :( - don’t overwork yourself too much please - i’ll be driving so i might not see your reply - i love you
- i’m on my way to the resto - i’m so excited haha - i’ll be waiting there for you - i’ll be sure to drive safely, because that’s what you always say when i say i’m about to drive - see you there, i love you
- i’m here already, but no need to rush - i’m just early by half an hour - just let me know if you’re seeing these messages - be safe on your way here, i love you
- hey, it’s been two hours already - are you still tied up with your work? - let me know if i should wait for you or pick you up at your work - i can still wait for you though - please reply, babe - i’m getting a bit worried now - reply to me please, i love you
- i just contacted your colleague - he told me you’re staying overtime to finish some things, but couldn’t you tell me sooner? - i’m still waiting here for about four hours now - i’m going home now - at least reply to me once you’ve seen this
oh shit, oh shit, oh shit! i completely forgot about our dinner!
you hurriedly ran to call a taxi, knowing that the train was about to close by the time.
i knew something important slipped my mind earlier! i can’t believe it was the date with my husband!
you told the driver the destination of your travel, while also asking him if he can make it so you will arrive faster there. of course, he said he can’t drive recklessly, but he’ll try to drive faster.
while the taxi driver did his job, you tried to reply to your daichi. you explained that you had your phone off, that's why you didn’t receive his messages. the thing is, your messages are going through but he’s not responding to your message.
gosh, i think he’s really mad. what should i do when i get home? we can just have another dinner. ugh, it’s too pricey. you sighed.
after a few minutes, the taxi finally arrived at the street of your house. you told him it’s okay to drop you off here and paid him. while walking to your house, your stomach churns with anxiety as you might find daichi mad.
as you reached your gated house, you searched for your keys only for you to realize that you didn’t bring it with you when you left the house. you contemplated whether to call daichi and have him open the gate for you or just jump over the gate.
while thinking, you suddenly heard the clicking sounds of the gate being opened. you turn around to see your husband in his shorts and t-shirt. he’s not in his night wear yet, so he must’ve been doing some work in his office, just like what he usually does when he gets some free time after eating dinner, though it usually doesn't take this long for him to do those works.
“o-oh, you’re still awake? i didn’t wake you up, right?” you asked, trying not to make it awkward.
“no.” he flatly said.
he finally opened the gate and then waited for you to step inside, without uttering another word. you walked to the front door and opened it, going inside. you left the door open for him.
you set your coat on the rack and followed daichi with your eyes as he closed the front door and walked past you after throwing the keys in the bowl. you also saw your keys there.
i knew it he’s mad.
you walked to the living room to see him opening the television and munching on some chips. seeing this, you felt your stomach grumble. you went to the kitchen and found a bowl of some hot miso soup. your stomach felt even hungrier.
but, i need to talk to dai. you closed your eyes and accepted your hunger later.
you were about to walk to where daichi was when he suddenly stood up and went to the bathroom. he also took a towel, so it seems like he’ll take a shower.
guess, i should eat first then.
after eating and washing the dishes, since it’s only the ones you eat with anyways, you went to change your clothes hurriedly, in case daichi finishes his shower already.
when you went back to the living room, there you saw him sitting on the couch, eyes glued to the television.
you walked to him and called his name.
“dai.” he didn’t look at you.
“dai. i forgot about our dinner.” you said and took a seat next to him, he looked at you.
i should just explain it to him and get this over with.
“our team leader was being a little bitchy earlier and gave me work i’m not even supposed to do, so i turned off my phone—” you were telling him about what happened earlier, when he suddenly cut you off.
“is it that hard to remember to tell me that you’re taking an overtime?” he stated. staring at you with a straight face.
“huh?” you asked, deflecting his straightforwardness.
“i’m pissed off that you made me wait for about four hours, but i’m more pissed about the fact that you can’t even tell me that you’re having overtime.” he uttered.
it’s like something just snapped in your mind. you know you’re the one who should apologize for forgetting about your date and even making him wait. but, it must’ve been the awful day that you had that’s getting the best of you right now.
“why is it such a big thing to tell you about that?” you asked him with a stress on the word ‘big thing’.
he furrowed your brows and was taken aback by your question. did you really just ask him why is that a big thing?
he stood up and was still not breaking eye contact with you.
“maybe it’s because i’m your husband, (y/n).” he answered back, now emphasizing his words. “of course, i need to know because i get worried why you aren’t back yet when your working hours are already done.”
you raised your eyebrow.
“if you were that worried, then you should’ve come to my workplace and checked up on me.” you said and then stood up too, facing him.
“i was about to, when your co-worker replied to me and said you already have taken an overtime and possibly forgotten about our reservation!” he rebutted, his voice getting louder.
“then it's good timing! that was a waste of money anyways, we can always just eat somewhere cheap!” you shouted back.
“it’s you who wanted to eat there!” he pointed at you.
“i never said that! it’s you who wanted to take me there!” you told him and took a step forward.
“why are you always pushing the blame onto someone else whenever you're up against a corner?!” he gritted through his teeth.
“huh?! when did i ever do that—” you were about to talk when he talked over you.
and it was when you realized this is going like what happened with your parents.
“you never owe up to your mistakes, i always try to understand you because i love you, but (y/n), i’m a human too! i have a limit!” he started.
“wha—” before you could even finish, he added something that breaks your heart.
“i’m tired of you always being like that!” he said and stormed off to the bedroom.
you stood there in the middle of the living room speechless.
your world seems to be spinning yet you’re not paying attention to it, you're more focused on the heavy feeling on your chest. it’s so heavy, it feels like your heart has fallen to your stomach and now you can feel the churning of it too.
your legs felt wobbly, you had no choice but to sit back down on the couch. your hand found its way to your chest.
it hurts here.
your eyesight started becoming watery.
“you’re always like that! i’m tired of you already!” “guess who’s tired of you too?” “is that so? then i’m leaving and never going back here!”
no! stop, stop, stop, stop!
don’t think about what happened to mom and dad!
“then i’m leaving and never going back here!”
stop! please!
you know daichi won’t leave you, right?!
he won’t leave you!
he won’t leave you!
he won’t.
…right?
i just have to apologize—
“they were so deeply in love with each other in the past.”
no…
i still love daichi!
stop thinking like that!
with all these thoughts, you didn’t even realize how much you’re crying, but somehow not making any sounds. your body is still adapted to your childhood habit of immediately covering your mouth and nose when crying in order not to let anyone hear it.
it’s a habit that started the night you realized that you’re the reason why your parents have broken off. if you didn’t ask your mother for a gift that day, then there might be a chance that your family is still together.
your body slid and now you’re lying on the couch sideways, still covering your mouth and nose.
i still love daichi.
but, daichi’s tired of me already.
i knew love never lasts, but i thought it might be different with daichi. i was too naive to think love would treat me differently than my parents.
everything comes and goes.
in the end, it was a cycle.
not the love, but what happened with my parents’ love story and mine.
it will never last. love is.
waiting for a bit until you stopped crying, you picked up your coat again and put it on. you were about to take your keys, but realized you don’t need it anymore. before leaving, you remembered one thing. you walked back to the living room and took off your ring, setting it down on the table, all while holding back your tears again.
daichi’s the type to sleep his anger until he calmed down, so you didn’t have to think that he might pop out suddenly and ask you where are you going.
you have already booked a taxi to take you somewhere that might not be a safe haven for you, but still has a deep hold to you.
“can you take me here?” you said to the driver and he said he can and then quietly drove you there.
you turned your phone off to avoid someone calling you. you slept on your way there and when you felt the car stop for a bit too long, you immediately opened your eyes. a bittersweet smile appeared on your face as you stared at the house from the window.
you thanked the driver and hopped out of the taxi. you stood in front of the house unlighted because it’s already midnight, though to you it looked more gloomy rather than creepy.
one of the rooms is still with lights on, you grabbed your phone and messaged your sister. a few moments later, she was out of the house, wearing her pajamas, surprised to find her sister out of the house in the middle of the night.
as much as how surprised she was, she knew it was out of ordinary for you to show up in front of the house on a random day. she knew you had your reasons, but never forced you to tell her about it. it’s not like you’ll travel for about three hours just to visit them, just because you thought about it, what’s more it’s in the middle of the night.
she helped you get your room ready, she can see from your eyes that you needed to rest your body and mind. when it was already done, you thanked her and encouraged her about the plates she’s finishing, that's why she’s staying up late.
you laid on your bed, the same bed that has been with you with everything. it is nostalgic to think about the memories, but you can’t help but think about those times where the family is still complete and somehow you are acting like a real family.
“i’m back. you’re seeing another pathetic side of me.” you muttered to yourself, referring to the bed and realized that maybe it’s the whole room too.
you turned your eyes to the pictures stuck on your walls. your lips quivered again as you stare at the picture you put up in the past of you and daichi when you had an aquarium date.
it’s a picture of you two kissing that was perfectly photobombed by a large stingray, that made both of you look like you had wings.
“why do humans fall in love? it hurts my heart, yet i can’t stop loving the man i married.” you uttered as a tear fell out of your eyes.
you were about to close your eyes, when suddenly you heard a knock on your door. you looked up and stared at it, thinking it could be your imagination. again, three knocks came. you immediately went to get whoever it was. did your little sister forget something? or did you?
opening the door, you were greeted by your mother in a wheelchair. smiling up at you.
“i knew it. you came home, i see.” she said, still smiling affectionately at you.
“mom, why are you still awake?” you asked, kneeling in front of her. you held her hand and returned the smile.
“i was asleep, but i woke up when i heard your bedroom’s door being opened.” she explained and tapped you, asking you to stand up.
“huh? ah…” you were puzzled by what she said, but then remembered it.
“your door lets out a peculiar sound every time it opens and closes, right?” she chuckled and pointed at your balcony.
you went behind her and pushed the wheelchair to your balcony, the breeze was chilly, so you went to your dresser and looked for something thick to cover your frail mother’s body. you came back with a jacket, and wrapped it over her shoulders while she was staring at the star-filled sky.
“it’s beautiful.” she spoke.
you looked up and truthfully, it was beautiful but you were not in the mood to admire them. you just answered her with a simple, “yeah.”
for a moment, it was quiet. the only sounds you’re hearing are the sound of the wind brushing against the trees and leaves and the sound of the crickets.
it was quite, you thought it would be okay to just stay like this, but you know somewhere someone would speak up. it was your mother who did.
“did something happen at your house?” she finally asked the same question your little sister wanted to ask but decided not to.
you tried to stay quiet, but you were aware you have to, sooner or later, need to tell them the reason rather than keeping them in the dark.
and yet, you can’t find the courage to speak.
your mother smiled.
again, it was quiet.
for a few minutes, it stayed quiet. actually, you think it might actually go until half an hour. half an hour of letting the noises of nature fill both of your ears, half an hour of feeling the cold blow of the midnight wind on your skin.
you looked down at your mother and noticed that she’s just staring at something far. it was like her mind was occupied by something.
“mom,” you called, she answered you by humming, “what are you thinking about?”
“i’m thinking about your father.” she said lightly.
you were surprised. the topic about your father was like a forbidden one, you and your siblings never talked about your father when in presence of your mother, yet she just told you that he’s running in her mind right now.
i thought she hated him.
“why?” you asked.
she smiled weakly.
“i’m thinking that if i followed him back then, maybe i would be happy right now.” your eyes widened.
she still remember that? and… she regrets not running after him? but, he’s…
“i thought you said you didn’t love him anymore?”
she chuckled.
“i thought so too.”
it’s saturday and almost four o'clock in the morning, daichi was woken up by his alarm clock, he forgot to turn off before sleeping. it was already weird, because usually he never hears it. it was you who got woken up by it first and then turned it off. after that, you’ll be nudging him and even getting on top of him with your whole body to wake him up.
his body feels so tired. he stretched his arms out, only to feel the cold sheet next to him. he sprung up on his ass.
“where is—”
he shut his eyes tight when he remembered what happened last night.
“damn it. i decided to sleep again while i’m mad. i should stop doing that. she doesn't like it either.” he muttered as he got off the bed and stretched out his body.
he went outside the room to get water and find you. he searched the living room with his eyes, but he didn’t see you, he walked to the kitchen and you weren’t there either.
maybe in the bathroom? he thought and his feet dragged him there.
no. you weren’t there.
at this point, he was ignoring the thumping sounds of his heart. there’s no way you did what he’s thinking… right?
he went outside, even though he knows himself it’s ridiculous, to see you watering the plants. but, still there’s no sign of you.
he went back inside and searched every room, but still no one jumped out and said that you were just playing hide-and-seek with a just-woken-up him.
where were you?
he went to sit on the couch. short and fast breaths taking over his lungs.
please just tell me you went out to jog. or that you went to shop this early in the morning. anything that could be outrageous to do at this time you can do it and he wouldn’t even laugh. just show up before his eyes and calm down his heart getting scared minute by minute that he might’ve ruined everything last night.
“where are you, baby? please, just this once let it be a joke.” his said with a shaking voice.
he looked down and finally saw it. the ring you left, before you went and left the house.
daichi laughed.
“now, if this is a nightmare, i fucking hate it, haha.” he laughed as he picked it up with trembling fingers.
it wasn’t happening. if he closes his eyes and opens it again, he’ll find you sleeping soundly beside him.
but it didn’t.
he clutched the ring in his palms as he wobbly stood up and went to the bedroom to get his phone. maybe if he calls you and apologizes, he can fix this relationship.
but, it wasn’t going through.
“did she block me already? please don’t. i’ll apologize for everything i did and said. just don’t leave me.” he muttered, shaking voice and tears finally escaping his eyes.
he kissed the ring, before deciding to get on his feet.
he’s not letting this relationship end, if he had to eat dirt for you to forgive him, he’ll go out of his way to search for the dirtiest mud and eat it for you.
he checked the closet. his line of work will become handy to him, but he didn’t think that it’ll be useful in this way. you didn’t take any clothes with you. so, there’s a high chance that you’ll go somewhere you have a stock of clothes with them. but, the friend you’re always staying over whenever you have a girl’s night, is out of town right now and the other is attending a party just like what you’ve told him.
as much as he doesn't want to say it, he knows that you’re trying to save money, so you probably won’t stay at a hotel.
he picked up his jacket, phone and wallet.
he knows the only place where you could be.
“you thought so too?” you repeated.
“i thought i was tired of him, that i didn’t love him anymore.” she said, “but, i was wrong.” she added.
how can you love someone who hurt you just by thinking about them?
she looked up at you and smiled.
“i realized, i was not tired of loving him.” she looked forward again. “rather, i was tired of our fights. i was tired of always exchanging shouts with him, but i never stopped loving him. ever since that night, never a day passed that i haven’t thought about how i should’ve run after him and told him not to leave me, us.”
your lips quiver while listening. you always made sure not to talk about your father thinking that your mother would hate it, not knowing that everyday she reminisces about their relationship.
again, she looked up at you, but now with a warmer and larger smile.
“so, i thought once i get better, i’ll try and win your father back, even if it took too many years, haha.” she happily said, before looking back in front.
you weren’t able to contain it anymore, you shed a tear for your mother. you bend down and hug her from behind. she was startled when you suddenly wrapped your arms around her, but still caressed her daughter’s head, just like how she used to whenever she cries in her arms. you were happy to see your mother’s genuine smile, a smile that isn’t forced, a smile that isn’t there to show that she’s okay, so you don’t have to worry. you were happy, but you can’t help but cry.
knowing damn well that your father has already married someone else and is having his third child.
you know that and yet, you can’t tell her that. you don’t want to. not when she just finds inspiration to be well again.
but, you didn’t expect to hear what she said next.
“your father… he already found someone else, didn’t he?” she suddenly said that it made you freeze.
you felt wet drops on your arms.
“i-i— he—” you wanted to lie, but can’t bring another heartbreak to your mother by lying.
“i know, because you’re my child.” she sobbed and tears fell out of her eyes like waterfalls. “and i know, because that’s just the man i knew and loved.”
you went in front of her and hugged her by her waist, bawling like a little child.
“sorry, sorry, sorry, mom… it was my fault… i’ve always known it was because of me… if i didn’t ask you for a gift, maybe he would still be with us… mom, i’m sorry… because of me… i’m sorry… i’m sorry… i’m sorry… please, forgive me…” you cried and cried, begging your mother for forgiveness.
your mother who is also crying, but still manages to wipe your tears, nods her head with everything you say to let you know she’s listening.
you kept on apologizing to her and she listened to everything. when you ran out of breath, she took this chance to calm you down.
“(y/n), look at me.” she said as she cupped your cheeks, you looked at her with a messy face and probably snot coming out of your nose. “never have i ever thought that it was your fault. your small gift was not the reason we ended the relationship. i didn’t know that you’ve always carried the guilt on your back thinking that it was your fault. i’m sorry for never noticing.” she affirmed.
“it was not your fault, (y/n).”
this made you teary again.
“mom… thank you…” you cried to her as you held her hands that were on your cheeks. closing your eyes to feel the warmth of her palms in the coldness of the breeze.
“with that said, (y/n)...” she called. you opened your eyes and saw another of her real smiles.
“don’t make the same mistake as me.”
it was a short sentence, yet it rang your ears so loud, you can’t hear anything else except that.
your lips showed a smile, a quivering and forced smile. your tears never stopped dropping, actually your eyes produced more.
“i’m sorry, mom. but i think i already did.” you cried, resting your head on her thighs. “it wasn’t your mistake that i’ve committed, but dad’s.” you added.
“i ran away.” you hiccuped, “i thought everything would be the same, so i ran away. i was scared to face it.”
your mother made you raise your head. your eyes are red from crying so much and yet you felt like you haven’t let everything out. your chest still feels heavy. you want to cry everything out, but thoughts fill in double with every tear that escapes your eye. you just want to cry it out, but the longer you cry, the more it hurts.
“mom, what should i do?” you asked her, looking up at her. sniffing and catching your breath.
“i…” you stopped to inhale. “i love daichi, but i’m scared. what if it's all temporary. what if our love fades?”
“it was my fault. it’s always been my fault.” you wiped your eyes with your hands, only to be replaced by another one. “i… i don’t want to leave him, mom…”
“dear, calm down.” your mother squished your cheeks. “i’m sure you realize that whatever you did to your husband was wrong, but you don’t have to worry.” she said, making you confused.
“i was the one who ran away… what if he didn’t run after me?” you asked.
“then you’ll be the one who needs to go back to him. you need to talk it out.” she ran her hands on your hair. “you wouldn’t want to turn out like me, right?” she muttered, giving you a relieved smile.
she knows that you already know what to do and that no matter what happens, deep inside you, you didn’t want to be something you saw happen to her and your father. she must’ve been subconsciously aware that you were afraid to fall in love. she saw when you looked at others with partners, not with an envious eyes, but rather a confused one.
she realized just now, that she might have been the reason why you think like that. with what turned out to be your mother and father’s relationship, maybe it’s understandable why you thought love fades along with the relationship. but, you’re wrong. after all, look at her. she will always love the man that was with her for most of her happiest moments. she’ll never stop loving him.
but, she knows it’s different for the both of you.
because, she saw something in daichi that your father has never done and never will. she knew from the day you introduced him to her.
your father never looked at her the same way daichi looked at you whenever you’re not looking.
so, she knows. she knows it won’t turn as tragic as her story.
when she realized, you have already calmed down. you’re still sniffing and wiping your tear stains, but you’ve controlled it.
“let’s go. it’s getting late and you haven’t slept yet.” she tapped your back. you could only reply with a nod.
you stood up and helped your mother turn her wheelchair around. you helped her get to her bedroom, but before walking back to your room, you thanked her.
“thank you, mom.” you said. she looked at you and smiled. “thank you for being the best.” you kissed her on her forehead and said good nights to each other.
you went back to your room and laid on the bed. you reached for your phone. your fingers fiddled whether to turn it on or not.
in the end, you chose not to.
you know what to do right now, but needed more courage to commence it.
“i should get some sleep first.” you muttered, your body finally processing the amount of tiredness your body felt yesterday and today.
i’m going back to daichi. i don’t want to lose him.
the sun was up and it was hitting your eyelid. you were too tired and sleepy, you forgot to lay out the blinds.
you were about to turn your body to the side, when something was holding you by your waist. you were still feeling groggy, but you paid no attention to it. but, then you remembered you’re in your room, not at your house, but your mother’s house.
you swung your head sideways and saw daichi sleeping next to you. your mouth was wide open and was surprised.
how did he get here this early in the morning?
you stared at his handsome face that was wrinkled by his furrowed brows. you wanted to laugh, because that was his face every time he dreams about a weird but cute creature that he told you about before.. you tried to get out of his chain-like hold. after many unsuccessful attempts, you finally managed to free yourself.
you sat on the edge of the bed as you felt your throat was so dry after that crying you did. you were about to get up when you caught daichi and started moving his hands.
he’s searching for me. you thought.
you were on your way to reach for his hands, when he suddenly sprang up with wide eyes.
“(y/n)!” he called out.
you jolted because of his sudden movements. he was frantically rubbing his eyes in order to get that clear view of the room. his gestures made you worry, so you held and stopped his hands from doing so.
“dai, i’m here.” you told him, putting his hands down along with yours. “good morning.”
his eyesight has finally adjusted and you were his first view.
your beautiful face that puts a blush on his cheeks. your sweet smile that calms his mind. your soft touches that makes him weak.
staring at your face, he realized that he’s not in a nightmare anymore. just like what happened earlier when we woke up for the first time today. you’re here in front of him, greeting him good morning just like always.
he pulled your hands to his face, feeling up the warmth it gives.
“g-good morning.” he replied, his voice cracking up from holding back his cry.
you smiled watching your husband snuggle himself to your hands, but it soon faded when you realized how scared and hurt he must’ve been when you suddenly disappeared.
“dai—” before you could even finish calling him, you suddenly found yourself caught by daichi’s arms again.
he buried his face on your chest and hugged you tight, tighter than he even did before.
“why…?” he muttered, words were muffled, but you can still hear him clearly.
“dai?” you called.
“why did you leave? you could’ve just slapped me. you could’ve just kicked me. you could’ve punched me. you could’ve told me to sleep outside. you can pull my hair, poke my eyes, hit my shin, step on my toes, throw all my clothes, burn them, spend all my money, cut my cards and everything to let out your frustrations and calm your anger, but why? why did you think of leaving me?” he reasoned.
you could feel your clothes getting wet, right where his eyes met your chest. his fingers on your back grasping onto your fabric. you wrapped your arms around his back.
“i was so scared. i thought i might never see you again. i thought we’ll never kiss each other good nights and good mornings again. i thought i’ll never be able to hold you like this anymore.” he continued.
“i’m sorry, i’m sorry. please don’t be mad at me anymore. i didn’t think through what was coming out of my mouth. i won’t ever do that again, please don’t leave me. i love you. you know, i love you so much, right?” he begged, finally looking up at you.
his eyes were filled with tears, just like how you were earlier. his face was desperate for your answer.
“dai.” you started. you pushed him away for a bit to look at him directly. he didn’t want to at first, but still complied with what you wanted, only if he held your hand. he’s scared that you might disappear from him again.
“why are you the one apologizing? it was my fault it all happened.” you told him, he was about to reply to you, but you halted him.
“i completely forgot our dinner. i forgot to message you about staying late to finish my work and i didn’t apologize for both. i got mad when you were only worried about me. i lied about not wanting to eat there and begged you for it.” you continued, looking at him straight in the eyes.
“and you’re right about it. i’m sorry for always dodging to own up for my own mistakes. i was scared that everything might be happening because of me again. i ran away from them, so i will not be blamed for it. it’s a bad habit that i need to work on.” you said, smiling at him.
you raised both of your hands to your chest level.
“and thank you for always understanding me. thank you for being so patient with me. i’m very lucky to have someone like you beside me.” you then went and hugged him.
“i’m supposed to be the one saying it.” you added.
“saying what?” he confusedly asked, but still hugged you back tightly.
“i’m going to be selfish and ask for it. i might be tiring to deal with at times, but please don’t leave me, daichi.” you said.
he suddenly chuckled.
“then that would make us both selfish then, since we're asking for the same thing.” he said before pulling you to his lap.
he sat you down there and wiped some tears that were escaping your eyes. he held your cheek with one hand and yours immediately followed it, holding his below your hands. he angled both of your heads and made your foreheads touch each other.
“i won’t promise that there will never be a fight anymore, but there’s one thing i will promise.”
you smiled when you realized that you know what he’s going to say next.
“i promise i’ll love you for eternity.” you said in chorus, making you two laugh.
you two laid in bed for a few minutes, before going down and eating breakfast with everyone. you ate in peace knowing you learned that maybe even just a little bit, you finally understand why.
the reason why people bother with love.
sometimes you will just find someone who will make you risk getting hurt as long as you get to be with them. sometimes it might not turn out the way you expected it, but sometimes when you overcome it and still be with them, it could be the greatest thing that would happen to you.
sawamura daichi, thank you for making me take the risk.

Medic!Reader × Poly!141
Part I | Part II | Part III
[Tags: platonic, fluff, self-indulgent]
A/N: This fic is dedicated for @rainlovesyou12 hope you like it <3
You are a medic, and you come from a rich family, so naturally you're placed in an elite team, at least populated by polite men
While you're not a spoiled brat, you sometimes dare to challenge anyone when you disagree with them. Your "courage" is usually dubbed as rich kid syndrome in the military
Strangely, the captain (Price) is amused by your behavior
He never scolded you, even when people said he should
Your job is a medic, but you're more like a secretary of the team.
You help Price with the paperworks, taking care of the base, and sometimes even their foods.
He also asks you to accompany him to meetings or private talks with the superior, the reason? They don't give him a proper secretary, even when they should.
When you first come in, the team is still on a mission. It took 3 whole months before you met the whole team
Your first reaction: "Wow, life's so unfair."
Their heights tower you that it's almost unreal
When you greet them one by one, a member catches your eyes
It's Soap
As a medic, it's your obligation to heal them if they have any injury. So when you see the blood on his clothes, you immediately point it out to him
"You're injured!"
He seems confused for a second as he looks down to his gears, before he laughs. "Tha' ain't my blood, bonnie."
"Still, I have to check if you have any wounds."
Surprisingly, most of them are minor
You begin to check the other members, but it's the same for them too. Just scratches and bruises
They'd dismiss you, if not for your question about their discomfort, or if they had any dislocation
And that makes them all your patients
Even the reluctant Ghost finally gave in. "Fucking hell Price, she's a pushover." He said, "You'll come to like it someday" Price replied
After that, you and the team settle in the base, trying to get used to each other's company
(You also didn't ask questions on why the big man is still wearing a mask even though he's in the base)
Soap, and Gaz are the easiest to talk to, while Ghost is just polite, but still keeps his distance.
The three of you bond over food, because it's mandatory to cook if you wanna save money. You and Gaz are great at it, while Soap is strictly prohibited from entering the kitchen
Soap absolutely ravaged the foods that you joked about how he always makes the plates squeaky clean
On rare occasions, the giant man does show up at the table
When you ask him about what they eat usually, you can't believe your ear
"I ate the ratio that's been provided by the base." "You ate that dogshit???"
You end up scolding him (unintentionally) and end up telling him to eat the cooked food, but when he gets defensive, you tell him he doesn't have to eat together, just reheat the food whenever he's hungry
He didn't touch the food for 2 days, until one day, the leftover is gone, and the dishes were washed
You have no idea when did he do it, but you're glad nevertheless
Remember when I said you're more of a secretary than a medic? That Price often took you to meetings? Well, that leads you to an unfortunate meeting with Graves
Even Price was hesitant to bring you along
When you first met him, he's exactly the man that you picture in your head; arrogant, stuck up, flashy, and playboy. Basically all the bad stuff
He shamelessly flirts with you, to the point that Price has to clear his throat to remind him of the ongoing negotiation
One time he asks you (forcibly) if you'd like a bottle of a fancy wine that you don't even know
"You look like a girl that'd enjoy the Chateau Lynch-Bages' Pauillac." He'd smile
After several failed attempts to decline, you eventually give up
"I'm flattered that you'd give me such luxurious items, but I'd love to receive basic ingredients for cake. That way I can repay you back, how's that sound?"
He literally takes it as flirting
The next day, you literally received the high quality flour, eggs, sugar, etc etc that come in 2 boxes, along with a message: "While I hope you'd return the favor in some other way, I can't wait to taste what you made" and a scribbled wink
You end up baking a peanut caramel chocolate cake (A/N: try it, it's soooo good) because of the amount of chocolate he gave
The team watch you as you assemble the cake
You cut the cake into a good size for gift, and give the rest to the team
They treat it like a delicacy
After you sent it via his man, you received his reply on the next day
"I know you didn't give me all of the cake, so I hope you'll make up for it the next time. Ps. I like it, you should make more for me in the future" along with the abominable wink
Although you're irked by his narcissism, you feel a bit embarrassed and puzzled that he knew it's not the whole cake
You try to figure out how, and finally it clicks; he purposely bought a bigger size pan, and a medium sized box. Along with the evidence of a long rollcake box that somehow can fit the rest of the cake. You sigh, this man is really petty
And stubborn as well
The pile of unopened letters, with his name signed on the back would be the proof of it
Soap and Gaz tease you about him when they read the notes, but you dismiss them by saying: "I'd rather date Ghost than him."
Fast forward, Price and Gaz'll leave for a mission for months. But Soap and Ghost stay behind
Weeks would pass relatively quiet, and they're still radio silent. You couldn't help but worry, though Soap quickly assured you that they'd be fine
Ghost still kept a distance between you and him, until one night, when you and Soap fell asleep on a movie marathon, you woke up startled by the sight of him on the sofa.
"Shit, you scared me."
"I'd be surprised if you didn't."
"Why are you here?" You quickly corrected yourself, "It's not that you're not welcomed, but you're not around much, so…"
"No reason, just feel like it."
Silence
Then you gather the courage to say, "By the way, I'm glad that you didn't eat those ratios anymore. Let me know if you crave something in particular, I'll try to make it."
He just stares at you, before saying, "I don't understand, Price can just order takeouts for us, why should you burden yourself with cooking? Aren't you a medic?"
"Well," you scratch your head, "I'm the one who suggested it, because I couldn't stand eating takeouts everyday. The foods he ordered were greasy, and I didn't want to get sick because of it."
He lets out a snort, "You don't have to care about your weight when you're in the military."
"It's not about that." You shook your head, "But if you said it that way, well, I won't be here forever, so I have to maintain it somehow. Besides, I'd like to keep my cholesterol level normal so I won't die of heart failure or something."
That catches his attention as he gives out a small laugh, "The doctors I knew are either dead or diabetic. You're the first one that cares about your own health."
You shrug, "As I should. You should too."
For a split second, you let out a cold sweat, wondering if it somehow offends him for some reason, before you let yourself relax when he continues watching the TV. The two of you watch in silence, before you fall asleep again
Nearing the arrival of your team, you decide to busy yourself with dinner. Which, more like grocery shopping and planning on the dishes
"They usually eat pizzas after a long mission, ye don't have to do that." Said Soap one morning
"I don't care if they end up ordering pizzas." He furrows his brows at you, "I just feel the need to do that, I don't know why."
He playfully grins, "Wife instinct?"
"That's not it," you laugh it off, "It's just that, Price ever said to me that maybe one day, one of them won't ever come back. It has stuck with me ever since, and I don't wanna think about that at all."
He nods understandingly. You need a distraction
"Let me help then."
You both settle with beef bowl, eggs, and potato salad, based on his input that 'they'd probably want to eat a lot, so just make them easy to get refill'
You bought a ton of sliced beefs and onion, rice, and potatoes
The day that they come back, you're hit with a bad feeling and fear the worst, but after seeing them both in one piece, you let out a relief sigh
Still, the dark mood is still persistent
They look like they don't have any appetite, even for a pizza
You actually would let them rest, if they didn't look like they're malnourished
(Actually, when you think back, it's just an excuse to feed them. You actually just want them to eat your food)
"Would you guys like a beef bowl?"
Price perks up at the offer
"Well shite (Name), just what I need."
You tell him there's also potato salad, but that day he just wants the rice
They end up eating one portion—a small size compared to what they usually eat
They're still quiet even after the dinner, so you decide to excuse yourself, giving them space and the rest they need
You're in the office, sorting through documents until Price knocks on the door
He looks weary but still offers you a smile
"I'm sorry for being so gloomy tonight." He told you
"That's fine, really. You don't have to apologize."
"I feel like I have to, especially when you too are affected by it."
You let out an awkward chuckle, "Well, it's nothing like that. I know you guys are tired so I don't wanna bother you with too many questions." You shrug, "Anyway, I'm glad you guys are alright."
A warm smile spreads on his lips, "You're a good girl, too good for us men." He uncrosses his legs as he leans away from the door frame, "Thank you for the food, we'll talk again tomorrow, yeah?"
The two of you exchange a "goodnight" as he walks away, and you come back to your work
After Price, you didn't expect anyone to come to your place again, until the second person showed up at your door. You lift your head and see Gaz standing there, almost shyly
"Oh hey." You greet him, "Didn't see you there. Need anything?"
"Hey." He greets back, "No, I don't need anything. Just checking on you."
You tilt your head, face clearly shows a questioning look but you cover it with a smile
"Uh, y'know what? I wish I could tell you what happened, you must've been worried about—"
"Oh, no, no. You don't have to tell me. I don't wanna know either." You offer him a reassurance, "Don't worry about it, Gaz."
He seems relieved upon hearing that
"You're right." He said, "But it doesn't mean that I can't tell you funny stories."
He pulls up a chair as he begins to tell you stories from the mission. From the horrible dad jokes, and a moment when Price slipped on the ladder. In exchange, you tell him about your encounter with Ghost, which makes him laugh
It actually surprises you to hear Gaz telling you stories and all. You assume that he only does it to cheer you up, or that's just his way to destress. Either way, it's nice to have a company like him
He'd keep going if you didn't remind him of the time, and you have to force tell him to sleep, promising that you'll talk tomorrow again
The next day, you're surprised to find almost all of the members are in the kitchen. Chatting and eating the leftover beef with reheated rice
All of them, except for Soap, but it's because he hasn't wake up
You didn't want to admit it, but seeing the pan empty makes your pride swell
You join their talk as you sit on the table, and they immediately complain about you not making enough batches for breakfast in a humorous way. You complain back by saying you didn't get paid enough for this
And that leads them to protest about the food budget to Price
He just sighs
By the time Soap joins in, all the food is already gone. And he's pissed about it
"You gotta order pizza for today." Gaz jokes
"Fookin' cunt."
As the conversation flows, Price announces something so suddenly, that you doubt your hearing
"What did you say?"
"You'll be on the same mission as us next month. Pack up and be prepared."
Gaz whistles, "We won't be doing paperwork then?"
"She'll focus on being a medic, so she won't be doing your paperwork."
He groans
"That's… great news." You responded when they all stared at you, "When will we be leaving again?"
"Exactly one month from now." He explained before he sighed, "But don't be too happy yet, because it's not easy to be stationed in the red zone. I know you can handle it but still." He shook his head, "The bad news is, and you wouldn't like it when you hear it but, the person who requested your assistance… Is Graves."
