My auction is for one of the following—winner's choice!

Beta reading for a Supernatural fanfic of up to 50k

An editorial letter for an original work of fiction of up to 75k

The minimum bid is $5. My auction will benefit one of the following:

Freedom to Read Foundation

One of four LGBTQ+ orgs pre-selected by FTH

An org I chose to include: Rainbow Migration, a UK-based org that supports LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system

Details on what I'm offering:

Beta reading for Supernatural fanfiction: I’ll beta read a single completed fanfic of up to 50k words. I’ll do 1 thorough, top-to-bottom pass on the work, plus another 1-2 passes to help you take care of anything that crops up during my beta read that might result in rewriting or reworking. My beta reading work encompasses:

general discussions and troubleshooting

concept, plot, and structure

canon details and characterization

tone, pacing, flow, etc.

consistency/continuity

clarity with wording/visualization

spelling, punctuation, and grammar

Editorial letter for original fiction: I’ll read a single piece of completed original fiction of up to 75k words, and write an editorial letter/manuscript evaluation for you. An editorial letter is a highly personalized, in-depth analysis of your story. This type of edit is developmental/conceptual—it talks about the work as a whole, in big-picture ways. No line edits or adjustments to the text itself are being done. While an editorial letter typically includes some positive feedback, it focuses on constructive criticism. The contents are entirely customized to whatever is going on in your story; I offer my insights as well as possible options for addressing weaknesses or issues.

If this sounds scary, don’t worry! I’m very gentle, and the goal is to deliver useful, actionable feedback that you can use to create a stronger draft. I highly recommend this type of edit if you’re looking to pitch your story to agents and/or seek traditional publication. The market rate for an editorial letter is easily several hundred dollars at minimum, so this is a steal!

My Experience:

Fanfiction: I've posted over 100k words' worth of my own fanfiction on AO3, and I've beta read over 300k words' worth of fanfiction for other authors. I've written a well-received guide to beta reading for both authors and beta readers.

Original fiction: I'm a Staff Editor for @duckprintspress, an independent press that publishes original fiction by authors of fanfiction! I've been involved with the Press since October 2022 and I've worked with 8 different authors to edit 9 short stories that have been published in 3 of our physical and e-book anthologies. I'm currently editing an additional 3 short stories and a novel of 100k+ words. As a freelance editor, I've edited several short stories and a few novels. I have experience working on novel-length fanfics that were turned into original stories.

As both a beta reader and an editor, I'm gentle, patient and friendly. My approach to editing is that I'm not here to tell you what to do, I'm here to help you tell the story you want to tell.

But I ultimately might would go for the house #JUST becuase it would be my Dream House which means it would already meet mostly all of my specifications #and what I might be looking for. which would save a lot of time searching or customizing/rennovating.#Also because I could use that as a way to leave the US lol.. like .. if I get to choose my dream location.. couldnt I just choose some othe #country?? But I wonder how that works. Can you legally 100% have full ownership of a property in a country yet not be a citizen of that #country?? Would you show up and be like 'erm.. i own this house.. so i shall now live in it' and theyd be like 'uh no. you cant live here #despite owning the house. leave.' ??#So I think the initial process of 1. scraping together funds to actually MOVE myself and my most valuable belongings physically #TO another country. and 2. figuring out how to STAY in that country . might end up being difficult.. BUT. if I could just work that #part of things out then.. dream house?? security for once in my life?? stability?? :0 #Though the $1mil is enticing it's also like.. I feel .. with the way housing prices are now... that's not much???#it's a lot I guess if you plan on like.. investing half the money and staying in an apartment for 5 years while you grow your wealth #or something. but if you're a 'I Need Stability NOW' ready to settle down person who would be most interested in owning a property rather #than nice clothes or a car or whatever other investments you could make then.. eh..?? It seems like unless you're okay with living in #a small town or kind of far away from the city - even some SMALL houses in majorly populated areas in the US will be like #$600.000 - $900.000 or something. like that would be MOST of my money. Which I know you could just pay partially and make #payments on it but idk.. in the option of just outright owning the house it seems like it'd end up being cheaper.#Plus I would want to own it fully asap because I'd be afraid of losing it somehow otherwise. like it being taken for medical bills or #something. which I thought was supposed to be - not IMPOSSIBLE - slightly more complicated legally if you actually have #paid off the house in full. I guess the issue then would be utilities and property tax and such. But I feel like thats overcome-able??#Like I could just stipulate that my Dream House has a little furnished addition or something and then find someone #with money and be like 'Look you can live in this extremely nice area with amazing ameneties and updated everything and ALL you have #to do is give me money to cover the utilities and property tax.'' or something like that. Like the little furnished addition is nicer #than the actual house. they have their own pool and spa and movie room or something and Ill also cook all their meals for them #or whatever (how luxurious it would be depeneds on how high the property tax actually is/how much I would need to entice them into #why it's a good deal for them to pay it for me lol). idk... something like that.. ANYWAY #I asked a few people I know though and one of them answered they'd rather have a romantic partner. the other one said they'd like #to be able to choose someone to die lol.. Also increasingly aware that a LOT of people "manage" getting through the 40+ hour work week by sleeping less than is healthy and relying on stimulants like coffee and energy drinks to keep them going.

For people who are unwilling or unable to do this...work really does just dominate your life. Like we really should not have to rely on unhealthy practices just to have a social life or keep on top of housework or whatever.

I know I post about this a lot but I'm so TIRED all the time and it's just so depressing that this is how we're expected to spend the one life we have.

#i have to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night to even barely function #with sleep #getting ready for work #commute #cooking #and errands #I typically have maybe 2-3 hours to actually do what i want in a day #and I'm usually too tired to actually do the things i want to do #and that's with a very short commute #if i actually had a long commute I'd basically do nothing but work #i see my friends like once every few weeks or months #because we're all so fucking busy with work and have such little time for socialising #and none of us even have kids or anything!!

I'm on chpt20 and I want to study SQQ like a bug. My man is flushed, hair down, robes literally falling off his shoulders, LBH on his lap playing with his hair and kissing him... and he finally cottons on to the fact that maybe this isn't how you have a platonic and important discussion. Enforces it for all of five seconds at which point LBH starts massaging his waist and SQQ is back to being like "yeah this is fine and normal". Amazing. Can't believe he insults the IQ of SQH's characters.

Hi folks! Sorry I've been a bit awol lately! Holidays and all that. Also I've been going through a bit of a digital detox and I've been feeling INCREDIBLE because of it. It's making me feel more free. Makes me want to step back from the internet even more. I've gotten much more physically active, I've been working out and reading books and learning to cook... developing my own novel that I've been wanting to do for years! MAN. It's been really nice.

I don't have any plans to just stop Something Wonderful and not continue it, but it might be a while before the next post!

All I need in life is Price taking care of a very sick, very dramatic Nikolai. The man is stuck in bed, high fever, feeling weak and useless, trying so hard to escape his prison (the bed) so he can go back to work but no, Price insists on taking care of him, makes him chicken soup (it turned out not so great but it's the thought that counts right? ) and stays by his side while Nikolai acts like he's about to die.

"John, John I'm dying."

"No you aren't, Nik."

"I am. You need to carry on without me. I have money hidden in Minsk for you. So you can retire once I'm gone."

"Shut up and take your medicine already you god damn muppet."

Once Nikolai is better, it will be Price's turn to get sick (a consequence of insisting on kissing Nik despite everything) and his turn to be overly dramatic about it.
