I think the main thing that pisses me off about like 90% of mephiles ships is that people will be like "how old is he??" Look that fanwiki says that he's ten and they RUN with it. Like they don't read further. I'm so convinced that most people don't even know the plot of 06 bc the shit I've seen people draw and write with the characters is just mind boggling.

The tanaoi stans believe a fancanon that "Aoi has a crush on Tanjiro and give up because of Kanao" when that shit did not happen in both manga and novels. I really hate TikTok for spreading this fake info and now they are hating on Kanao just to ship tanaoi. I'm sorry that Kanao was picked by Tanjiro and Aoi was not? And Aoi did not give up shit for Kanao in canon lmao. She loves Kanao as a sister yes as stated in the novels but she show her love for Kanao by understanding how Kanao's mentality work instead of being controlled by her low self-esteem and Kanao show love to Aoi by comforting her while she's having a breakdown realization in the novel.

None of their relationship revolves around Tanjiro because that shit was a headcanon and not canon and I hate that their sisterly bond is being lowered to ships.

If Tanjiro and Kanao had barely interactions in canon then Tanjiro and Aoi have even less interaction. Have we even read the same manga and novel or this is another ya'll fancanons? If we are gonna play about conon moments between ships, Kanao has always Tanjiro's attention and notice her ever since until the end wether it's because of her skill or eccentric behavior. Tanjiro always approach Kanao first and vice versa. He approach and blush while thinking fondly that she's 'sweet' at the closing end of the manga hinting their growing romance because Tanjiro's goal is already achieve so he has now time to be young. Aoi is barely noticed by Tanjiro but acknowledge her hardwork say nice things about her just like any other people at the mansion and Tanjiro never tried to approach Aoi since then and barely interacted with her than he was with Kanao. The thing is, it's also Tanjiro who understands Kanao's anger at Inosuke in the novel and made Inosuke understand why she feel that way causing for Inosuke and Kanao to reconcile immidiately.

The funny thing is, Aoi has more interactions with Genya in the novel than with Tanjiro and Inosuke in both manga and novel. Genya was the one who defend Aoi when a slayer insulted Aoi and Sumi for being non slayers and not in the frontlines and Aoi took care of Genya the whole time even though Genya was shy and tried to push her away. And no, I don't ship Genya and Aoi. I ship Genya and Muichiro. I'm just pointing it out.

Ship tanaoi all you want but leave Kanao alone.

This fandom has some of the best fics and fanworks i've come across), if you want to leave the ship, you can do that too (which, again, would be very sad, cuz I've met some of the nicest people in this fandom, and it's one of the few fandom ship spaces that is not so tixic... as compared to many other fandom ship groups)

I do read some krs!Cale-centric fanfiction but when it come to LCF 'canon'-verse, I avoided E-rated and shippy ones and I don't usually bookmarked them

It's hard to find one to my liking because most M-rated and T-rated ones still with ships and s3xual content while there are few with those rates because of the theme or gore or language but most are not, so...

I like the light read ones, but most of the times I just want to read the heavy ones that without ships but those are so rare...

I don't get it. With almost all the press rooting for buddie people can't fail to see that this ship being canon would breing much more hype than their nothing ship, can they? And I believe it would be a much better queer representation that not one but TWO masculine firefighters (one of which is not white even!) realize later in life that they are not straight and find love with each other (not find, but build) - not only later in life but also so late into the show running... First you come across some older m/akorra posts with the typical ship justifications as well as typically ignoring every interaction Korra had with Asami or worse, take the scene out of context, cut Asami out of the scene and make it all about m/akorra.

But as misfortune never comes alone, then I came across completely new m/akorra blogs and posts, which one would easily think were from December 19, 2014 because the arguments have not changed in more than 8 years and worst of all, m/akorra shippers just can't stop themselves from trashing Asami. But what has become popular in m/akorra circles is to now edit scenes from TLOK comics and make them be all about m/akorra.

Because for them all this is just shipping wars and preferences. Open LGBTQ representation in an animated show? Two women openly started a romantic relationship? Make it possible for LGBTQ representation to be even more open in other animated shows? Who cares! Only my mlw ship number 756484645 matters!

And when I say that they trashing Asami is disgusting, that includes imagining extreme violence against her:

Just to be safe, I'm going to abbreviate Erwin & Levi as EL.

Well, first of all, I like almost every dynamic between characters in SNK. IMO Isayama did a great job of building connections in his story. So, I don't really have NOTP(s) in SNK. Even if I don't ship A, B, C, or D romantically, I can still appreciate the bonds between those characters.

Regarding EL, if you've read one of my fics, you would know that I like the veterans, especially the veteran trio (Erwin-Levi-Hange). I really enjoy the relationship between Erwin-Levi, Levi-Hange, and Erwin-Hange. To me, they are close comrades who have deep trust in each other.

At first, I was not so sure what to make up in the relationship between EL though. I found Erwin to be quite intense back then, so I didn't know how to read the dynamic between him and Levi. As a trainee, Erwin seems to be much more outspoken and passionate. But as an adult, Erwin becomes more reserved. Therefore, I used to think that this man must have been hiding something. Then, I finally understood it all when I read about Erwin's backstory (and apparently he was hiding his trauma and guilt, who would've thought!).

Anyway, in short, I like EL! I feel like their personalities complete each others and they have their fair share of both meaningful as well as comedic moments. What makes them interesting to me is that they are the kind of people that you would never thought would be friends, but well apparently they are. Some might argue that Erwin was only using Levi to reach his goal. But I disagree, even in a world where there are no titans around, I still believe they would become great friends who can rely on each other. So yeah, I can see the appeal of EL.

Hence, I can understand why they are so popular, both in Japan and the west (and internationally tbh). However, their popularity had never bothered me since I already knew that M/M ships tend to be much more popular in almost every fandom in existence. I mean I've shipped Levihan (and Aruani) since 2013 and oh boy we were like a small cheerleading club back then xD

To be quite honest, I don't think Levihan is better than EL. I mean sure, in my book they are the best HAHA but I tried to never really put any relationships in a hierarchy. To me, shipping characters are more about preferences anyway. Like, we tend to ship a pair with dynamics or tropes that we love.

I ship Levihan (and not other Levi's ships) because they embody many tropes & dynamics that I like, such as opposites attract (this feels like their trademark tbh). However, their main appeal to me is the way that their relationship feels so mature and healthy but also FUN. Despite their stark differences, they are able to trust and look after each other, not only in combat but also outside. You can see them fighting together in one chapter and then see them teasing each other in the next chapter.

I also like the fact that they don't always bound together. I like crumbs (and full meal) as much as next guy, but I actually appreciate that they have their own characters moments as well as relationships with other people. It highlights their personalities which make their dynamics—when they are together���much more interesting.

Not only that, before chapter 126, their relationship and moments were actually pretty subtle (the one where you kinda have to squint to see or blink-and-you-miss-it kinda thing). Which I LIKE SO VERY MUCH! I actually prefer subtle romantic-ish moments between characters over blatant romantic moments. I like ships with potential, ships that will give me enough (not too much and not too little) materials to daydream every day HAHA. I mean, out of all the ships that I like, Levihan is the ship that I have the most fanfic ideas. They are my go-to ship every time I need to distract myself lmao.

I feel like I want to say more but man, idk, I just like them I guess. I can't put my love for them into words T_T But to sum up my feelings about them: I WISH THEY WERE MY PARENTS

I'm a regular reader of historical romance and I was reading your review of Anne Stuart's take on POTO (and giggling along, bc it's bad even by my standards even if I indulge in trash from time to time). That did make me curious though, are there any other fiction books with Meg (or a Meg/Christine combo) be the Phantom's love interest? I remember hearing about Sadie Montgomery's books a few years back but I was wondering if it was an outlier and that everything else had Christine or an OC.

While the majority of Phantom lit is E/C, with R/C in second place, there is more than a little E/M kicking around out there! Here are a few off the top of my head:

The Phoenix of the Opera Series by Sadie Montgomery - you mentioned this, but it's a big one! There are seven books in this series - The Phoenix of the Opera, Out of the Darkness, The Phantom's Opera, Phantom Death, Phantom Madness, and Phantom Nightmare, all of which cover Erik's and Meg's burgeoning romantic relationship and ensuing adventures. I've only got a review of the first one (I didn't love it, but you might!), but the whole series is pretty much the top-tier E/M option out there.

The Guardian of the Opera series by Cheryl Mahoney - this is another purely E/M series, and much newer than the Montgomery ones, which came out about 20 years prior. While the first book follows the events of Leroux's novel fairly closely, just from Meg's point of view, the following two develop a romance between the Phantom and the ballet dancer.

The Angels of Music series by Louise Ann Bateman - another much newer option that starts with Leroux's story but then moves on to developing an E/M plot afterward. There are only two books in this series so far, but there may be more in the future!

Night's Melody by Drake LaMarque is an erotica that features a gender-flipped Meg named Mathieu as its main character, who is very into Christine/Christophe even before the mysterious masked man gets sexily involved (amusingly, you'd think that the infamous Unmasqued by Colette Gale would have something with all the orgies and BDSM, but while the older Giry is definitely up to sexy shenanigans, her daughter doesn't feature as prominently).

Honorable mentions:

Love Never Dies - Yes, they don't get together, but this is an example of Meg being heavily in love with the Phantom and that having a sharp effect on the plot.

The Phantom of the Opera (1990 David Staller musical) - While not in most of the plot, this musical ends with the Phantom giving up on the rescued Christine and deciding to start mentoring a young ballet dancer instead, which a lot of E/M shippers see as a call out to Meg.

In addition, there are also a LOT of books that use the Phantom story but have him target a ballerina instead of a singer; usually, the ballerina is just Christine (probably because Sarah Brightman is a ballet dancer, so the Lloyd Webber musical made Christine one, too), but some of them are ambiguous and might scratch that itch! Off the top of my head:

The Ballet of Dr. Caligari and Madder Mysteries by Reggie Oliver - this is a short story collection, but the title story is about a man who, when his ballet dancer obsession can no longer perform, becomes more and more dangerously obsessed with getting her back onstage no matter what the cost.

The Cursed Ballet by Megan Atwood - a dancer at a ballet academy is deetermined to excel in the so-called "cursed show", but the mysterious dancer boy who she meets at night seems to have something to do with it.

A Dance with Danger by Marisa Wright - a mainstream romance novel featuring a ballet dancer who loses his legs but falls in love with another ballet dancer and decides to help her.

Night Child by Ann Majors - another mainstream romance novel featuring a ballerina who was kidnapped as a child and the man who has been protecting her for her entire life.

It seems like in 2014 there was sort of an even split between Korrasami and m*k*rra but I think the latter has fallen off. Like I'll come across z*t*r* randomly (again not as much as before) but m*k*rra is rare, at least in the case that you don't actively seek it out.

I like to think tastes have matured over time. Because back when LOK was running the only ships there dominating the fics, Deviantart, Tumblr, etc. were the aforementioned Z, M and T*kka (all of which, if it isn't clear, I don't like). All the best artwork was dedicated to these, the volume of fics outnumbered those for the canon couples, and poor Mai and Suki got pushed to the side, with poor Mai getting the worst of it.

I'm pleased that Maiko, Sukka and Kataang are finally getting their moment to shine these days. Again either tastes matured or the next generation of viewers didn't align themselves with those who wept when the moody firebender didn't hook up with the waterbender.

Speaking of moody firebender and waterbender, let's talk Korra.

2013: Korrasami is considered the "crackship". Book 2 puts the kabash on m*k*rra because let's face it: M*ko is a boring character. Cardboard has more personality. He is there to fulfill the stereotype of moody firebender and have cool firebending skills that animators can have with. Want something on fire? He's your guy.

Other than its the trope of tragic backstory that have no bearing on the plot whatsoever. In fact, M*ko doesn't have any bearing on the plot.

M*ko & Bolin find their family: no impact.

M*ko & Bolin have a dynamic with Kai because of similar backgrounds: lasts an episode or two. Kai interacts with Jinora for the rest of the series.

M*ko is Wu's bodyguard: aside from the kidnapping episode, which is a great episode, this subplot goes nowhere apart from some "comedy"

It's a shame that the roles weren't reversed. Firebender is the comic relief and the Earthbender is the serious one.

But alas we're stuck with off-brand Diet Zuko.

2014: The season that changed everything: Book 3.

Book 4: This is where the fractures started to form. With Book 3, those that had been routing for Korrasami (for clarification I jumped on that train in Book 2 because M*ko was such a prick in that season) found validation and with the finish line in sight, there were those that somehow believed that a relationship that soured years prior was somehow going to mend itself. As you mentioned, lack of communication between the two and a lack of trust. M*ko doesn't seem to trust Korra a lot until toward the end of Book 4.

Then the finale aired and something happened that really didn't occur when ATLA ended: Mike and Bryan wrote a post that stated definitely that Korra and Asami were together. Not just "good friends". No "up to interpretation." Korra and Asami are a couple.

Of course after LOK, there was more LGBTQ stories and characters in TV going forward, with varying degrees of success as is all media.

There are some idiotic posts that criticize Korrasami while viewing it from the perspective of having shows like She-Ra, Owl House, etc. for the past couple years. But rightly those criticisms are pushed back by those who know how much of a risk it was to even get on the air.

Lmao, not another destiel shipper, talking about how Jensen doesn't have romantic chemistry with Katheryn, but does have it with Kylie, Angelique and Dedee. Oh, and of course, that destiel is canon. Like, I'm so sorry, but where is this romantic chemistry Beau has with Cassie or Denise, where all his scenes with Cassie were platonic, and with Denise were platonic AND cringey and awkward. And with Carla, there isn't just no chemistry, there's a very loud uncomfortable, negative, antagonistic energy? But then, I guess if you saw a lot of chemistry between Dean and Cass, him beating Dean almost to death was the sexiest thing you'd ever experienced, I can see why Carla constantly putting Beau down and using him for selfish reasons would also be sexy to you 😬 And you'd find Carla to be an extremely strong, independent woman. A woman whose "strength" comes from constantly putting down everyone around her, and her independence comes from not being able to do a single thing without a man holding her hand, or better yet, fixing up her problems for her. Like the time she sent Beau to deal with and save her shady husband Avery, who'd only really ever become shady because she's a gold-digger and he couldn't afford to lose her by being poor. Very sexy and strong and independent and not selfish, definitely not the most toxic character I've seen on TV for a while and for sure not a slap to the face to actual strong women, who know how to be kind and mindful of others, while still fighting for themselves and standing up for themselves. Also, that Beau and Jenny was something forced (sure, Jan, something forced that the showrunner kept trying to shut down because of his Carla obsession and need to reduce Beau to "dad!Beau" "Carla's ex" instead of being his own character, but it just kept working because of the chemistry and their personalities and natural progression of the story), but Dean and Castiel is a totally natural story, no fan service whatsoever, and the confession was definitely not trenchcoat man's last ditch effort for relevancy, but a totally necessary, normal scene, that made sense to be said, after he's been treating Dean like trash, as a friend, let alone as something else. Also, you're h*m*ph*bic if you ship BA/JH, an interesting, healthy, chemistry filled dynamic that makes sense for the characters as they are, but don't ship destiel, which is, well, we don't have time to get into that. Can't leave out the accusations and name calling, can we? And of course that Beau being with Cassie would make sense (without the romantic chemistry, without any feelings on either of their parts, despite the fact that Cassie running off with yet another man Jenny's in love with would kind of make her a really terrible person. After, you know, sleeping with Jenny's husband, that Jenny forgave, Jenny who took a bullet for her despite that. Like, what must you think of Cassie if you want her to betray Jenny AGAIN?) Or being with Carla would make sense. After it's pretty clear that their whole marriage was toxic af. After she left him in a week when he was grieving and needed support the most, because the second it's not about Carla, she's not interested. After she married a new guy within a year, and forced Beau to move across the country, leaving behind any support he did have left. After she's continued to spend the next two years after the divorce treating Beau like trash. After she had no trouble selfishly using Beau to get her shady husband and herself out of trouble. After she absolutely shamelessly, with no qualms, painted a target on Beau's back by telling an assassin his name and place of work, just to save her own ass (that was right after the day he already almost got shot in the back once because of her). Where is the sense?

Also according to this person, Jenny is pathetic and pushy (I guess we live in a world where being there for your friend who you have feelings, respecting his boundaries, letting him share whenever he wants and as much or little he wants, having your partner's back in life and death situations, that makes you pushy and pathetic. But Carla constantly accosting him at his place of work, forcing him to do her bidding even when he says he's got other things going on, showing up and humiliating him in general and in front of his coworkers and friends, manipulating him into blaming himself for needing time to grieve someone very important to him, that's the epitome of a strong woman) and that Beau doesn't have any feelings for her. Sure, I also constantly flirt with people I don't have feelings for, let them in and talk to them about deep personal stuff, get jealous over them, and in general look at them with what can objectively only be called the most adoring and intense gazes. (Oh, but of course, Dean who has said over and over again, been consistent in his stance, that he sees Castiel as a brother, he for sure has romantic feelings for Cass. Cass, who shows his "love" for Dean by beating him up whenever he does something Castiel doesn't like. Who's left him for dead on several occasions, including the most important one. Cass, who manipulated him into apologizing for daring to be upset that Castial's spawn murdered his mother in cold blood. Castiel who watches Dean sleep even after being told repeatedly to stop. Castiel, who looks like he'd rather be dead than be in Dean's vicinity whenever he's around, but especially when Dean dares to find small joys in everyday things. Seeing that, Dean being happy, that certainly is the deepest circle of hell for Cass, the greatest offense. But if course, this is the greatest love story told, ever. Much romance)

There's plenty of ways in real life for two men to have a kid, let alone in a magic universe. Like do you have any imagination at all lmfao. Surrogacy? Lucina coming from a different timeline, which Awakening explicitly has? That gender change potion that gets brought up in a Sully support? There's tons of options for how to think out how it could work if you stop for a few seconds. The only limitation is being a joy killer who wants to remind people they couldn't play this option in the original game without hacks.

Anyway I don't think we'll ever be free.
