something about the bullet catch and the ineffable divorce
I’ve been having thoughts:
What if the bullet catch mirrors the final 15? The turnip turning didn’t work, the miracles didn’t work -> what they usually did didn’t work; it was blocked by Furfur or in the final 15 by the toxicity of Heaven winding it’s way back into Aziraphale’s self-esteem lacking brain (they need me as supreme archangel) and Maggie and Nina meddling (even though they said seconds before that meddling is bad)
What they usually did would be not talk about feelings and just go on about everything normally. But now Crowley tried to talk about feelings (Azi tried to turn the turnip) and it didn’t work and now there is the need for a grand gesture to fix it. Crowley kisses Aziraphale (like in the movies and romance books) and Aziraphale tries the bullet catch.
The difference: the bullet catch worked because Aziraphale counted on Crowley being A DEMON (who could presumably shoot guns) while in the final 15 the kiss didn’t work, because here, Aziraphale wanted Crowley to be an Angel instead.
Also worth noting: in the bullet catch they were only in that situation because Aziraphale wanted to help Crowley (replacing the deserted magician to make up for the broken bottles) because Crowley helped him first (in the church, saving the books). The entirety of season two only takes place because Aziraphale wanted to help Gabriel and Crowley decided to help Aziraphale with that and Maggie and Nina decided to help Aziraphale after the ball with the demons (which leads to Maggie accidentally inviting them in). If at any point either in the Minisode or in the finale of s2 someone decided not to risk something to help someone they love and/or treasure greatly, they wouldn’t have been in that situation that required a grand gesture (again, the bullet catch or the kiss)
I don’t know if any of this makes sense, I’m sleep-deprived and sad about the final 15 but I think it does.

Can we talk about how even though Phoenix is “whatever the player is” they are incredibly male coded? Like, the only think keeping this from being about a man is use of they/them pronouns- and while gender is so much more than just your presentation and pronouns, there does come a point where it feels less like a choice and more like a last second sticker slapped on to make it more inclusive. In this tangent, I will be discussing gender through the eyes of binary stereotypes and expectations of the 1960’s, I am well aware that gender is a lot more than just external presentation, this is simply what I’ve noticed as someone who thinks about small details to an unhealthy degree.
For example, throughout the entirety of both games, there is exactly one feminine accessory, a hat in the tutorial level of the second game. This is a game that takes place in the 60’s, where- as silly as it sounds- things like the shape and decoration of hats was incredibly conducive to a gender binary. And every hat, except for the one red one with a bow, is structured in that “men’s fedora” style, or is part of a man’s uniform, like knight helmets or police hats. This may change in the third game, but only one accessory in the entirety of both games isn’t a good track run. Even outside of the hats, you can put on a mustache, but not lipstick. You can put on a wristwatch, but never get a bracelet. If the problem is that it doesn’t fit the setting, then I present to you: The Fabricator’s Workshop. The Fabricator is definitely femme presenting, wearing a large women’s hat, effeminate sunglasses, and indulges in feminine interests like style and elegance. Would it really be too far to say shed take off an accessory and drop it in a desk drawer so she wouldn’t damage it while working on a project, that we could then interact with after she’s left?
Then, there’s the consumables, specifically the booze and smokes. Throughout the game, you can only smoke cigars, and in the 1920’s-1960’s Cigars we’re seen as the “man’s smokes” while cigarettes were the “women’s smokes”, cigarettes were smaller, daintier cigars. If the issue is that a cigarette would be too small to grab (though doubtful since you’re able to pick up individual screws and eat them in Rising Phoenix) you could add a box of cigarettes just as an aesthetic addition to the office or van.
When we look at the booze, we’re never given the option of “girly” drinks other than wine in Juniper’s cellar- more on that in a second- and this is especially true when it comes to Zor’s offices. Zor is depicted to stock bourbons, whiskeys, and other “men’s” drinks for the time, and seeing how Schell can’t seem to commit to Zor being non-binary in public interviews, it’s safe to say they also perceive these beverages and Zor by extent as masculine.
When we look at Juniper, he does have access to wine, and we can drink copious amounts of it, however, Juniper is far from a “manly” man. He acts, he accessorizes, he collects pretty masks and throws tantrums. At the end of the game, he begs for mercy. Even though he’s a man, he shows a lot of effeminate traits. Juniper is able to be viewed as a man while not being particularly “manly”
There’s also the actual in-game base of Phoenix. Whenever Agent Phoenix starts to suffocate, a recording of what sounds like a man choking plays, and Phoenix’s hands are built in a more thick, boxy shape, both indicators of them being amab. But these both can be chalked up to design choices, programming needs, rendering, and making the hit boxes large enough to function well in the game.
Then there’s fundamentally how Agent Phoenix is a spy. They’re a masculine, James Bond spy. Growing up, I was always shown women spies being put in skinny suits, crawling through vents, and being generally sexy and sensual, James Bond never had to put on a speedo and get tied to a chair while a mind control device played. And Agent Phoenix was a character that I loved because they let me indulge in being James Bond, not just kidnapping and romance fodder, but the hero. The one who blows up a building while flying away in a helicopter like a badass. But, the more I see how the environment was built, the less it feels like it was made for just anyone to be Agent Phoenix.
And I personally feel these sorts of presentations reflected in the fandom too. I’ve seen dozens of conversations where Phoenix is casually called “he”, fandom art where they’re always masculine presenting, if Phoenix is gonna be assigned a gender in a fic, he/him outnumbers she/her almost two to one it feels. Whenever I discussed Phoenix with she/her pronouns, I’d be met with people asking why I’m calling them she/her, but I don’t see that same response to people calling Phoenix he/him.
In truth, I’m really glad I edited my fanfic, Unconventional, even if it had a really bad rough patch of perspective messes for a while when I first started rewriting it from first to third person, then back to first. I found that I leaned really hard into “MY PHOENIX IS A GIRL, AND SHE CAN DO ANYTHING THAT A MAN CAN DO BUT BETTER” because I was incredibly insecure about how my interpretation of Phoenix would be perceived by the eyes of the fandom as a whole.
I’m not saying I want to fire up the game and have it be “CHOOSE YOUR GENDER” where if you pick Female suddenly your telekinesis is pink and Juniper flirts with you through the door. I just wish that when something claimed it was neutral, it was neutral. Not just masculine with they/them pronouns.

“the reason your late loved ones look uncanny in your head is because you’re slowly forgetting what they look like”
Ok. Now.
Imagine Atlas at their dorm apt at the ADA surrounded by canvases of Pianoman and the flags that they painted every day. And each painting slowly gets muddled after the next… and if it’s a portrait of the flags, the only obviously defined face is Chuuya’s-
But thankfully, a couple days later, a photo album from a not so anonymous ginger is right at their front door…

not to take away from charles’ well deserved spotlight in ep3, but man. imagining the devlin house from edwin’s perspective is pretty damn rough in its own right. but in a way he doesn’t even seem to realize or process. like specifically, mainly, the fact that he stands there, unfazed, watching this family get cut up with an axe over and over and over. you know who else got cut up and torn apart and killed over and over and over? you know who else was stuck in a seemingly unending cycle feeling the pain of dying every single time? oh yeah

I don’t even know what time it is but I haven’t slept yet. Have you ever messed something up and not realize until a week or so later when your overthinking? No, just me. Was there even anything to mess up though?
I swear this is why I never talk to anyone I like in that way. Because I’ll inevitably do or say something stupid. I want to try and fix(?) it but I’m too scared to and if it goes wrong I don’t know what I’ll do. But on the other hand I’m like what if it goes right?

I can accept complicated murder plots regularly happening in the same apartment building but I draw the line at the implication that Charles doesn’t already have an IMDB page

basically a shower thought BUT:
When Gortash speaks to Durge about the Temple of Bhaal, he says he does not know where it is located. However, the Temple of Bhaal is basically right next to the same boat which takes the player & party to the Morphic Pool of the Elder Brain.
Does Gortash teleport to the Morphic Pool of the Elder Brain? Are there multiple entrances from which he can access it? Because if not & he takes the same old boat Tav/Durge take to reach it —
How did he miss the Temple of Bhaal?? It is literally next door???

Been thinking of Aventurine a lot and the fact Ratio never uses his name
When Jade was talking to him his name was still Kakavasha and right before that the IPC news mentions a “Egyhazo Aventurine” fraud case and Jade mentioned how he lied to the Intelligentsia Guild so it seems very possible to me that Ratio met him before he was Aventurine and maybe that’s why he only ever refers to him as gambler? Maybe he actually uses his real name but knows he can’t say it on Penacony? Just seemed odd how he NEVER says it, not even when talking to other people about him. The only time we hear Ratio say the word “aventurine” is when he’s talking about the stone to Sunday, but he never says it in reference to the person Aventurine.
I’m probably overthinking this but it just seemed like the dialogue was going out of its way to keep Ratio from saying Aventurine, but when there was no way around it they just had him say gambler
Edit: Should add that I play in English and haven’t looked at the other languages, so maybe it just so happens that he never calls him Aventurine in English even tho he does in other languages? In that case this wouldn’t matter at all but I have no idea

angsty idea? 👀
- hero-of-the-wolf
Yeah... I kinda realized it’s similar to a fic I read once though, so idk if I want to do anything with it. I mean, it’s not the same, but it’s similar enough that I wouldn’t want it to feel like I’m copying anyone bbbbbbbbbb

call me crazy but i thought of a parallel i didn’t notice before
in the s4 episode treasure hunt, when they’re all teaming up to secretly look for the treasure, Eddie asks Buck to team up with him but he’s already teamed up with Taylor.
in s7 Eddie asks Buck to go to the bachelor party as Crockett and Tubbs, Buck doesn’t think for a second before saying absolutely, despite the fact that he’s currently dating someone he could wear a couples costume with instead.

I love Caravan Palace’s music cause there’s an inherent eeriness to it. Not only is it bumping and just makes you want to move along to it, it feels like there’s an underlying creepiness to it (not in a bad way). Like, it feels like the kind of music you’d find playing on an old record player in the middle of the woods kinda jams. Or something you’d find on an obscure radio station in the middle of nowhere. Like can you imagine flipping through static and dead air, until Clash starts playing? Or what about pressing play on a random cd player and Aftermath starts up?
I think most of that is due to y’know, the electro swing aspect, the fact it’s supposed to sound reminiscent of the 20s. Idk, Caravan Palace’s songs always have a bit of a “ghostly” feel to them, but it’s not malicious by any means. It feels like, “yeah this house is haunted but the ghost is chill, come on relax and let’s vibe a bit” kinda beat.
