The funniest thing about being a contralto with a low speaking voice is how people aren’t even surprised when I tell them I play tenor and alto roles. They’re like, “Yeah, I should’ve known.”

But then on the other hand, there are people who assume I can sing mezzo soprano because I can sing alto. Bestie, if I sing mezzo, you’ll end up with something more akin to a boiling kettle than a singer.

“But if there is a train to the Emerald City, why did Galinda make poor Dorothy walk all that way?”

She probably didn’t. The Wizard probably destroyed the train himself to make room for his wonderful road, yet another way he claims to do wonderful things for Oz all while moving them backwards.

“But couldn’t Galinda use her bubble to transport Dorothy?”

Probably, but I’m guessing Galinda knew the Wizard wouldn’t be so kind and receptive to someone else from our world coming here, because Dorothy could actually recognize him as a fraud and call him out on his bs. Dorothy, like Elphaba, is a threat to the Wizard’s power and the fact that she murdered the sister of his political enemy on arrival isn’t helping her seem less threatening, so Galinda is stalling while she figures out how to protect this poor girl and maintain appearances. Hence the whole “making her walk in heels” thing plus it provides a cover story for why Elphaba “can’t” kill her to reassure Dorothy that she’s safe from the Wicked witch: she still wants her dead sister’s shoes.

Also, Elphaba probably knew the Wizard would try to manipulate/hurt Dorothy and the others too. Even if she didn’t know who Fiyero was, she’d still be worried about Toto and the lion given what the Wizard does to Animals, which is probably why she uses the poppies to put them to sleep. The only people not enchanted are Boq and Fiyero. In the Wizard of Oz, it’s because they’re not living and Dorothy, Toto, and the Lion are, but in this case, it might be because Elphaba recognizes them.

“But then why would Galinda use her snow to wake them up from Elphaba’s poppies if Elphaba was trying to protect them?”

She probably didn’t. Morrible is the one who controls the weather. And we know that Morrible has no problem using her talents to make her current/former students look better or worse.

Ok, theater kid here. I haven’t seen the Wicked movie yet, but it’s release has sent me straight back down the wicked rabbit hole.

so…I’ve reached the point where my hyperfixations are merging…so MelJayVik nation..I give you this offering:

It works so well. Also like Viktor as Elphaba EATS like I need to draw this sassy little man in a black and green suit like RIGHT NOW.

Mel and Jayce I feel could kinda go either way storywise for who is Fiyero and who is Galinda, but dynamic wise this works best. Like, it’s so good, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack and just picturing them and screaming lol

I hope they keep some of the dialogue from “The Wizard of Oz” in Wicked Part Two because the new context and double meanings would be so funny and yet so sad at the same time.

Galinda: “Rubbish. You have no power here. Begone, before somebody drops a house on you too.”

Galinda: *weakly waves her sparkly training wand at Elphaba*

Elphaba: *looks visibly hurt by the comment*

Galinda: *silently apologizes and pleads with her eyes and she continues to wave her powerless wand at Elphaba*

Elphaba: *continues to look grieved and angry and hurt*

Galinda: *desperately tries to cover her sadness over Nessa’s death with confidence as she continues shaking her glitter wand in Elphaba’s direction while silently warning her with her eyes that her comment was a warning, not an insult*

Dorothy: *goes from looking terrified to looking progressively confused as she watches their silent emotional exchange while Galinda waves a useless bubble wand at her super powerful best friend like a child*

Galinda: *frantically shakes her useless sparkle wand one more time while the munchkins watch in nervous anticipation*

Elphaba: *sighs and pretends to be helpless against Galinda’s power*

Elphaba: “Very well. I’ll bide my time.”
