i'm rewatching rswr once again, and i'm actually quite fascinated by the way that nudity is used in this series.

for example, it was certainly a choice to draw noise completely naked in the communicave scene.

perhaps this symbolizes the high level of vulnerability and intimacy in noise and youngblood's relationship, and emphasizes the fact that, despite everything, youngblood still feels deeply connected to noise. since this is youngblood's vision, this could also mean that he perceives their words towards him as a display of their truest, deepest feelings, making their insults hurt even more.

nudity is also used in episode 7, when youngblood is shirtless around roman after the battle of the bards, after youngblood told him the truth about why he left the bard college.

roman, after having complete trust in youngblood while barely knowing anything about him, just saw a side of him that youngblood would have rather hidden, a part of him that still fills him with guilt and regret. youngblood bares his body, thus baring his true self (both the admirable and unappealing aspects) to roman, who loves and supports him, and accepts him as he is.

however, it is interesting that roman is always drawn fully clothed. perhaps this shows that he is not very used to expressing his true feelings around others. despite clearly wanting to feel connected to people, he might be uncomfortable with being vulnerable. this is most likely because of the fact that he grew up in an environment where everyone knows each other and he had a lot of expectations placed upon him, which would have really restricted his ability to express how he felt freely.
