you mentioned chert needing a therapist and i am intrigued as to how they took the whole “the sun exploded” thing in this au
So, two things about Post Nova Chert:
One: they're obviously traumatised. After waking up in the new universe, it took every fiber of their being to find the strength to fly back to Timber Hearth. After that, their mind pretty much went blank. They stopped talking, would stare into nothingness, forget to eat, and only react when startle due to noises or sudden movement. Staring at the stars or the sun would make them panic or pass out. So yeah, they already need help with all that.
And two: they accepted their death before. Before the nova, they had their emotional breakdown, realizing that they're about to die. Then slowly they accepted death and waited for it to take them... then suddenly they woke up.
To them, they're not supposed to be alive. Their mind believe that they're dead. So basically, they struggle to find a purpose to live again. Don't get me wrong; they're terrified by the idea of dying again, but they also don't know how to enjoy life anymore.
Meanwhile there is Gabbro. Who also accepted their death, but on the contrary, they felt intense joy to learn they had a second chance at life. That's why they believe they're the most qualified to help Chert overcome the sense of hopelessness. And even if it means that Chert needs to scream and cry and curse them, Gabbro is determined to make them stop and smell the pine trees once again.

Hatchlings! + Rant about them because I like them

I haven't been able to draw at all these last few days (university sucks), but I had to put this here because I have too many thoughts of the hatchlings and I'm surprised the fandom hasn't focused on them much.
This is gonna be a big rant
I really like to think that mica would bring a lot of technological improvements to the hearthians. Slate's great, but they just recently got to try out the nomai tech. Imagine what someone who was born onto it. I think Mica would not only use nomai technology, but also really implement it into their designs.
Like, Slate just used it without understanding how it works (for example tye call back of the scouts, Riebeck doesn't know that falling into a black hole won't immediately kill you, so Slate probably hast figured out it works with black and white holes). But I got the feeling that Mica would truly understand it and improve on it.
I have less thoughts on the rest of the hatchlings, but here's the landmarks:
Tephra and Galena get into the space program, Galena more so than Tephra (they are kinda scared of space).
Tephra is a biologist and draws the animals, plants and research on a notebook
Galena is more of the adventurous type, usually dragging Tephra along with them
Arkose is a geologist on their free time, tree keeper as their main job. They get along with Gabbro when researching on quantum shards
Moraine is a lot like gneiss and I imagine them being into making/ playing lots of instruments. Teaching the astronauts how to play and stuff
But overall the new generations are less afraid of space, all of them having visited it at least once
I also have some ideas for expanding the planets/ some life forms (I also can't believe I haven't seen no one do this, it's so cool to imagine all these animals)

Just messing around with personal design ideas for Idaea, I guess.
I just really love the Sun Station. The weighing of the scales parody on the wall when you enter the observation deck is probably my favorite piece of imagery in the game. And the music is a fun little combination of sounding entirely weightless (in free-fall around the system's star) and incredibly suffocating (the station didn't work and never will -- there is nothing more anyone can do.) For this scribble I pulled inspiration from the myth of Icarus and the plant that's listed on Idaea's fandom[dot]com wiki page.
#oh my god#i love how mich thought youve put onto this#op.this is great#outer wilds#outer wilds spoilers#also#kinda funny to make nomai (a futuristic race) dressed like in the ancient times#but it makes so much sense and fits them so much now that i think about it#really advanced for their time#also their arquitecture being so simple and white kinda reminds me of ancient Romans/Greeks

a fic idea I had from campfire fest, but one I don’t think I’ll write
for Discovery, my idea was an analysis and retelling of how each species discovered spaceflight
the hearthians are hardy and get up to shit. I would think that the OWV founders (minus esker) when younger were fucking around drunk one day and decided to light a barrel of shitty sapwine on fire. Slate had the idea, gossan goes with to make sure nobody hurts themself (and wants to see what happens), hornfels goes with to make sure they don’t burn any buildings down (and really wants to see what happens), and feldspar’s the one carrying the barrel. They strike a match and light the tap, it blasts up and spirals through the air, a flaming barrel of sapwine cresting above timber hearths horizon for all to see, and it crashes in a random grove. Feldspar is hooting and hollering, gossan is relieved, hornfels is more amused than they’d like to admit, but Slate saw it. For a second there, the barrel wasn’t as out-of-control as it should have been. Theyre drunk but they get the idea then.
the nomai shoot first and answer questions later. They understood gravity and propulsion but nobody had actually gone to space yet. One day, someone decides to answer what’s above the clouds For Science, and launches the aircraft “within acceptable propulsion strength bounds.” They get up there and take a photo of their home planet to show the others. Unfortunately, he didn’t account for re-entry or landing from this height. So after crashing back down to the planet’s surface, the Nomai that could see it crash obviously run out to rescue and salvage. But surprisingly, he’s unharmed (relatively). They think he’s concussed when he’s talking so much about space and looking down at the planet, but he’s got the photo to prove it. The nomai rescuing him are so caught up with curiosity and intrigue of his story that they forget they’re inside a crashed burning aircraft for a second. the owlk are propelled by the actions of the brave few who rebel against their society of caution and fear. They understood flight and propulsion the most before spaceflight, but wouldn’t dare touch above the clouds. An aircraft in disrepair malfunctions and shoots above the clouds, but luckily there’s a passerby flying near their last known location. She detects the distress beacon and communicates with air control that they’re going for the rescue, but control is adamant that they return. These aircraft are not graded for space, they’re too far out to be saved with the fuel available, and most of all they don’t know what’s up there. She hears all of this and shuts her communication line off. Reaching above the clouds to grapple onto the floating aircraft, she realizes she can still breathe and hasn’t imploded from pressure yet. Propulsion shuts off due to having no atmosphere to intake/exhume, and so she floats to the damaged craft. Her ship’s grapple arm latches onto the most solid piece of metal on the distressed vessel, and they begin to get pulled back down to the planets surface. On emergency landing, she’s reamed out by control, but she got up there. The few owlk who she saved vouch for the stars with her
obviously some liberties need to be taken here but hey who ever thought Outer Wilds was real in the first place?

Post Nova AU - Slate
So! How about a little comic about Slate and Hatchy dealing with the hot death of the universe? I've had this idea in my head for a while. I've been drawing a lot of content with Gossan and Feldspar when it comes to the Post Nova AU, but I think it's important to show how other Hearthians are coping with it. I believe Slate would handle it pretty well. A lot of sleepless night, but they always knew how to keep their mind busy. I think they would mostly struggle with being worried about others. Hatchy, on their side, are doing great when they're awake. They're so happy to get an second chance at life and they're making sure everyone is coping well. But at night, when memories come back, and instinct kicks in... But it's all good in the end! Hearthians look out for each other!
Someone got worried when they got the news the next day ;w;
#i love this so do so much#i swear#i really fucking love this#im obsessed#it's so good#god. i love slate#and hatchling looks so young in their pijamas#especially besides slate#their so yeah. lol#outer wilds
