#book recs#sapphic ya#nancy garden#annie on my mind#good moon rising#*kicks the door down* WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!! A PDF SCAN IS FINALLY HERE INSTEAD OF THAT CRAPPY TINY EPUB I HAD TO READ FOR 10 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!#it's very similar to Annie. which isn't a bad thing if you're a fan. hell yes 2 cakes etc. (i definitely won't deny it though)#rivals to lovers version of Annie. what's not to love?!#i've always personally preferred this one for several reasons. larger cast of teen peers. all characters centered around working on#the Big Play makes the whole plot a smidgen more grounded than Annie's courtroom pastiche (not that i don't love it)#plus. well. doing theater and reading The Crucible are exact activities from my own teen years. so it's the same appeal of featuring art#but more personal and relatable lol. and yes i did first read it at the time when i was in school but i sincerely still like it to this day#that *cannot* be said for most other books i read in that era; both older and newer; both YA and not YA!#of course you have to be down with YA which it's fine not to be. but imho there's a layer of intrigue to both books due to their age#that makes it a somewhat different exercise than broader 'trying to read YA as an adult'#there's actually a third one of hers- yes basically another take on the same story again- called Nora and Liz that's for adults#which i would recommend instead if you truly cannot rock with YA. although... stylistically... it's not really that different either. lol#anyway stan PEAK in the IDEAL FORMAT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#the third site is actually of course zl*b but they have so many seo issues with scammers that i think it's best to not use that name at all#@ the sole Annie stan i saw in the tag: pspspsps#oh wait: like its predecessor the book is largely About homophobia. queen garden never skipped an Issue for each book. so tw for that

word count: 1.9K
warnings & info: 18+, afab reader, college era art AHHH, friends to lovers, first time together, mostly smut, oral sex (reader receiving), art is a munch obviously, reader wears a bra and skirt
summary: Catching Art up on your adventures gets hard when he doesn't get your explanations, or your hand puppet examples. Looks like you just have to show him exactly what went down. Based on this post that i could not stop thinking about. :))
â
âOh my god, fuck you!â
Art chuckled from where he stood, watching as you tossed the t-shirt heâd balled up and chucked at you back in his direction. It fell harmlessly to the floor a foot from him, and you glared at him as he snickered, picking it up and putting it away.
You were visiting Art, your close friend from high school, at Stanford. At that moment, you happened to be explaining how an interaction at a party at your university had gone a couple weeks before. Art never really liked listening to you talk about guys- hence, the shirt thrown directly at your face when youâd started describing this particular frat boy to him in detail- but heâd given up complaining a while ago. It was either that or be honest about why he hated it so much, and that was never going to happen. So, he tidied up his room as you explained the lead up, the flirting, the stumbling up the stairs. He fell back parallel to you on the bed as you got to the âgood partâ, his head by your legs and an arm over his eyes, like he could block out the imagery.
âAnyway, I didnât think it was a big deal at first, like when we were flirting, but then I was on him, kinda like-â You took a moment to sit up straight, grinning as art groaned and propped himself up on his elbows to see you better. He watched you attempt to mimic the position with your hands, your left hand being the guy you were talking about, your right being you.
To Art, it just looked like you were mashing your hands together. He looked up from your hands to see you raising your eyebrows at him, as if to ask if he was following. âHuh?â He said.
With an exasperated sigh and without another thought, you pushed yourself up on your knees and waddled over to him, swinging a leg over his body and hovering just over his torso. For a moment, Art just watched, bewildered, as you steadied yourself with your hands on either side of his head. He let himself fall back from his elbows, hands sliding up your hips and settling at your waist, catching momentarily on the fabric of your skirt. His fingers peeked just under the hem of your shirt. Your skin tingled where he touched you.
â... Like this,â you said finally, blinking at him for a moment. âWell, uh.â You moved your hands to his chest instead, careful not to push too hard (though with the muscle heâd acquired since heâd started playing tennis for Stanford, you were sure it bothered him much less than you thought). âMore like this, I guess.â
Art nodded, quickly licking his lips before asking, âThen?â
You tried not to look at his mouth. âWhat?â
âThen what did you do?â
It finally hit you then: what the fuck were you doing, climbing all over your best friend to âshow himâ how you and some guy had been fooling around a couple weeks ago? That would just mean fooling around with him, obviously. That wasnât really the plan.
But, it was too late for your common sense to kick in now. There you were, your hips hovering over his, not quite touching yet. You watched his eyes dart down to your lips, then drag slowly back up to meet your gaze. You couldnât wait here and think about what youâd gotten yourself into and how this would change your friendship forever, though you got the feeling heâd let you take as long as you wanted.
Then what did you do?
You steeled yourself, biting your lip and watching his lips part slightly as he tracked the action with his eyes. Then you took that moment to fully sit on his lap.
You could feel his chest expand beneath your hands with his sharp inhale, his eyes snapping down to your hips, then back up to your face.
âThis,â you murmured. Youâd intended for it to come out cocky, maybe even a little seductive, but you could hear the breathlessness in your own voice. You were trying your best to ignore the growing pressure where your hips met his, though really, it was hopeless.Â
Artâs ears were burning a bright shade of pink. The urge to gently nip at them crossed your mind, just for a moment. He cleared his throat. âThen?â His voice was almost a whisper, chest rising and falling unevenly with his nervous breathing. The way he was looking at you, like he wasnât sure you were realâŚ
Fuck.
You leaned forward, trying not to let your breath stutter at the friction caused by the movement, until your lips hovered just over his. Then you kissed him.
You pressed your lips together gently, lingering for a moment before pulling back by centimeters. His lips chased yours, his grip on your waist tightening ever so slightly, and you were right back on him, lips falling open against each other. A soft sound escaped him as your hips shifted against his, along with a contented sigh from you. You repeated the motion, reveling in the low groan he let out, followed by your name murmured into your mouth.
Artâs lips were soft. And heâd shaved recently, you thought, hands cupping his face. The smooth skin of his cheeks was a stark contrast to the calloused hands he was now raking over your thighs, your skirt pushed up around your hips. You broke away from his lips, kissing down his neck instead, listening to the noises he made whenever you left a mark, whenever you ground against him just right. âShit,â he gasped. âYouâre- Youâre sure?â
âYeah.â You left another kiss just below his ear, before murmuring, âWhat is it?â
You could feel him all but shudder beneath you. âFuck,â he groaned, then your name, before he looked you in the eye. You resisted the urge to dive right back in. âLet me eat you out,â he said, suddenly determined, though still flushed and dazed. âPlease.â
All you could say was âWhat?â because, surely, this was one big dream.
âPlease.â His hands hadnât stilled, still rubbing shapes into your thighs, his hips rolling up against yours. âCan I?â
Your entire body was on fire. âOkay, yeah. Yes.â
He wasted no time flipping the both of you over, laying you against the bed so he could kiss down your neck. You barely had a moment to process, your hands moving to tangle in his hair, one of his knees slotted between your legs. He tugged at the bottom of your shirt, prompting you to lift yourself slightly and help him get it off. Your bra came next. âYou, too,â you murmured, pulling at his shirt and making him chuckle. He reached behind his head, tugging it off in one swift movement and abandoning it beside your shirt and bra on his freshly cleared floor.
One of his hands slid down your chest from your shoulders, enclosing one of your breasts, the thumb circling your nipple. You bit your lip and sighed, pulling him down for another kiss by the back of his neck.
Art let his hand trail from your chest down the sides of your stomach, then slotted his palm right between your legs, over your underwear. You gasped quietly, pulling away long enough for him to return his lips to your neck, your shoulders, your collar bone. You murmured a couple choice words as he started to move his palm, rubbing at your clit through the fabric. The dulled sensation was almost enough on its own, paired with the kisses he left against your chest. âArthur,â you whined, tugging at his hair. âDonât fucking tease me.â
A grin overtook his face at the use of his name, his hands only slowing down, tracing torturously slow circles over you. Art only snickered at your glare before hooking his fingers into the waist band of your underwear, pulling it down and leaving you in your skirt pushed up to your waist. He watched you carefully as he slid further down so that his head was between your legs. His finger only traced a line from your clit to the bottom of your hole before whatever restraint he had was gone, and his mouth was on you.
Artâs tongue flattened against you, the warmth and friction making your head fall back as your eyes fell closed. âFuck,â you moaned, hands threading into his hair as he answered with an equally obscene noise, muffled against you. âHungryâ didnât even begin to describe him, his mouth falling into a vague rhythm, eyes closed blissfully, whining into your pussy like it was doing him just as much good as it was you.
You thought about asking him to finger you while he worked, but his tongue prodded at your entrance and almost immediately, words escaped you. You brought one hand up to your face, clasping it over your mouth to muffle your moans, but Art stopped suddenly, watching your face. You whined your confusion, and he reached out to tug at your hand. âI wanna hear you. Let me.â
You blinked at him, chest heaving, and murmured âAlright,â before watching his head dive right back between your thighs, one hand still intertwined with yours. You had no choice but to moan unabashedly, your other hand busy pulling at his hair. His free hand was wrapped around the outside of your thigh, pushing it in towards his head, so tightly you were sure it couldnât be comfortable. But there he was, continuing to move his tongue against you like there was nothing else heâd rather do, whining and whimpering like you were his first meal in weeks. âFuck, Art,â you cried, barely keeping your eyes open so you could watch him move. âYouâre gonna make me cum.â
He groaned at that, relenting the pressure of your thighs against his head just long enough to reply: âThatâs it, baby, please.â If he had anything else to say, he couldnât keep himself off of you long enough to finish, already pushing your thighs back against his head, nose bumping against your clit as he bobbed up and down.
It seemed like that was all it took, really. You squeezed his hand and his head embarrassingly tight as you felt yourself tip over the edge, head thrown back and eyes squeezed shut. Art kept up his rhythm as you cried out his name, your hips rolling against his face. He didnât stop even when youâd come down, chest heaving, until you basically pushed him off, desperate for a moment of relief.
He kept a hand on your thigh, the other untangling from yours to push his blonde hair out of his eyes and look at you. He was breathing as hard as you were, you noticed. His mouth hung open as he panted, the entire bottom half of his face coated in saliva and your arousal. Fuck, he was pretty like this. ââS good?â
You shook your head, beckoning him toward you and pulling him down by the back of his neck when he was close enough. âYouâre unbelievable,â you murmured, lips against his almost before you were even done speaking. You didnât mind the stickiness. You pulled back to look at him, then glanced down to the tent in his pants. âLemme return the favor.â
Art let out a breathless chuckle. âI donât think Iâm gonna last that long,â he said, somewhat embarrassed. âNot if youâre the one touching me. Not after this.â He gestured to the shine still on his face, to your thighs beneath him. Your face burned, and your smile was so wide that your cheeks hurt.
You shrugged. âLemme try anyway,â you said, before bringing his ear down to your lips, nipping at the lobe gently. âPlease?â
He couldnât say no to you.

Dazai Osamu and the Dark Era: the visual novel (a fan project)
On a whim, I've decided to finally just publicly release this project that I've had laying around for two years at this point, for Dazai's birthday today. It was originally made for my very dear friend @letmereachforthestars , when I first introduced her to the series and wanted her to be able to read my favorite BSD light novel in an easier-to-read format. You need a computer to be able to play. The details and links are under the cut:
If you've never played a visual novel before, it's basically a novel in the form of a video game. Text will appear line by line, one a time on the screen, and it will be accompanied by relevant background visuals, music, and sound effects, to make the reading experience more immersive, and more stimulating than just reading from a book. Some visual novels have actual gameplay elements to them, and some are just books and nothing else (oftentimes dating sims/choose-your-own-adventure novels), the latter of which this is. If you've played the mobile game Bungou Tales/Mayoi, the story sections of that game are basically mini visual novels.
This game was made with screenshots and music from the anime, sound effects from the anime and Bungou Tales and free sound effect online sources, as well as graphics and fonts and other assets from Bungou Tales and other official BSD art (particularly the official anime soundtrack cd covers). The script is taken entirely from the official Yen Press translation of Dark Era, with the exception of about two or three iconic lines that I used different translations of because I felt like they had more impact. Additionally, at the very, very end, I added on the original ending scene from the Dark Era stage play and wrote a few fanfic lines of my own to accompany it you can tell because they are very cringe and don't match Asagiri's writing style.
Before playing the game, there are a few very important things to keep in mind; PLEASE read all this:
I am not a professional in the slightest. I took some coding classes in high school, and have some photoshop skills (when it comes to the design elements of the menus), but for the most part the former wasn't much help here; this was my very first time ever using the Renpy engine, and I made this entirely from scratch. I used my knowledge of playing other visual novels to emulate the kinds of effects and timing that is typical for these games, and I think it turned out pretty well all things considered, but it's still very amateur. This is most evident in the sound effects. The sound effects have no volume consistency between them, and some of them, particularly the gun/battle sfx, can come on very suddenly and be loud. I highly, HIGHLY encourage going into the settings and turning down the sound effects volume (the music should be fine), so that you're not startled by certain sounds when they happen, and for a lengthy time. I wouldn't blame you if you decide to turn the sfx off entirely if's too distracting, honestly đŤ I am no expert in sound files equalizing and making sound files loop seamlessly, so this was by far the most tedious and frustrating part of the process of making this for me. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the game or break immersion too much if you decide to leave them on (I hope you do, for the rain and clock sounds at least, but again I wouldn't blame you if you can't).
Dark Era is the most faithful light novel adaptation in the anime, but there are still a handful of scenes, mostly fight scenes, that got shaved down significantly. Because of this, there are numerous occasions where I had to simply linger on a black screen or the same screenshot for a long period of time, while tons and tons of narration happens, because there's simply nothing I can show to accompany said narration. This is not ideal, but unfortunately I didn't have much else of a choice in those instances, so I hope it's not too distracting. There are also a few instances of straight-up inconsistencies between the novel and the anime (ex. the fight between Oda and Akutagawa happens in the woods in the novel, but in the anime it's still right outside the art museum), so sometimes what you're reading won't quite match the screenshots I use. Fortunately it's never anything major, but it does happen.
There will sometimes be long, unchanging black screens. Don't worry, the game isn't broken; just wait long enough and it will continue.
Sometimes, a character will get cut off when speaking, and when that happens the dialogue will auto-force to the next line. If you didn't get a chance to see what was said before, check the text backlog/history (in the menu or the H key).
Last but not least, this game was made with the default text speed in mind. Meaning, that when it comes to certain specific scenes, the mood/tone of them, made up of the timing of music, transitions, sound effects, etc, all of it was arranged around the speed at which things progress when using the default text speed. I completely understand if you can't, but if at all possible, please try not to change the text to go too much faster or slower, especially faster, because certain scenes will lose a lot of impact otherwise. If you already know Dark Era, you probably have an idea of some of the scenes I'm referring to. At the very least, during the more high-stakes/intense scenes, please try to play through those all at once without stopping, for the greatest impact based on how I designed the game, and only pause/quit during the slower scenes. There are specific moments that I'm really proud of how they came out, and I'd like for them to have the maximum impact that I intended :') (also note that if you make the text appear instantly, the cut-off dialogue mentioned above simply will not appear at all, and you won't even know to look back for them, so please refrain from making the text instant at the very least)
Ignore the cringe sappy final message
...I think that's everything. With all that out of the way, here are the links for both PC and Mac:

Download the Mac version
This was a passion project for me for a good many months back in 2022. It started out just as a gift for my friend, but in the end I was really satisfied with how it turned out, despite how tedious and frustrating it was to work on. I've been hesitant to share it with the fandom for all this time because I kinda doubt anyone would really be interested in something like this especially since it's not stormbringer or beast, but someone on discord who tried it told me that I should share it, so here it is. I'm sharing it not just because I'm proud of my work, but because Dark Era is a truly amazing light novel â underrated, in my opinion (yes, I said what I said) â and far better than the anime adaptation, as good as that is, and I want more people to read it. If reading the books is hard for you and you've never read Dark Era before, if I can help just one more person to read it with this, I'll be happy, and consider my job done. đ
I so desperately want to make more of these visual novels for the other light novels, but sadly, some of them simply aren't possible thanks to how many scenes are missing from the anime, like with Entrance Exam in particular. I've also been waiting with vain, thin hope that Bungou Tales will eventually reach seasons 3 and 4, so I can use their Fifteen and Untold Origins title screens like I did here, if those ever exist. However, I'm also held back thinking about certain scenes that would require some redrawing/drawing additional details to match what's written in the novels. If anyone has any ideas on things I could do to possibly get around these issues, or just thoughts in general about how the other light novels might be tackled, or if you're an artist who can recreate the anime's style and takes commissions/knows someone who does, I'd absolutely love to hear from you! As well as any advice/help on how I can smooth out/improve this project here!
Anyway, sorry for the long wall of text. Thank you for reading all this, if you did, and if you do try the game, please let me know your thoughts; I crave any and all feedback. đâ¨

I recently started learning to use rpg maker (vx ace!) and as a result have become increasingly interested in pixel art. I hadn't really done pixel work since my teens - I do more digital painting and vector art - so while I'm a little familiar and can do passable editing, there's a lot I don't know.
One thing that's kind of perplexing for me is understanding the differences in style between two creators of pixel art. I studied art history and I'm used to the differences being things like brush stroke length or degree of realism... I feel like I'm lacking in lexicon in this new frontier lol
What nuances of an artist do you think are most important to style in pixel art?
This kind of stuff is not really officially studied (yet) so it's all a bit of opinion from me.
Usually in pixel art the biggest differences in styles are which limitations the artists choose to impose on themselves; colour count, resolution, palette... Or more stylistic choices like hue shifting, anti-aliasing style or no, dithering or no, etc.
I personally think there are a huge variety of styles in pixel art, as it's literally just a medium, and I hope you'll agree by the end 8)
Also (imo) there is some seperation between the styles of art for art's sake, and art for videogames, where things have to be clear and readable to be actually playable.
đŽ Old school games:
Sometimes referred to as something like '8-bit' or '16-bit' (relating to the NES era / SNES era consoles), these artstyles usually follow the rules and limitations of the hardware at the time.
This all falls under retro art, most popular styles include: NES, SNES, GB, GBC, C64
Notable artists: Nickwoz, Sandy Gordon, Franken, Cisco
đ Old school art:
There were also events called Demoscene (still are), where developers would go to a big convention and share their demos. A lot of pixel art competitions were held here, where artists would draw live.
Generally they used to favour a high realism/semirealism style, with lots of texture/dithering, fairly high resolution (if the hardware allowed for it), and adjacent pixels mostly being different from one another.
There are even older styles than this but they are fairly niche and I'm not that well educated. If interested look into some of the old PCs/consoles.
â Modern pixel art:
Usually using more colours and higher resolution, larger clusters of pixels instead of individual ones. Strong use of art fundamentals.
Artists to look at: Adam Ferguson (yes it is pixel art), Snake, Slym, 6VCR, Yes I do Pixels, Gijotto, SovanJedi, JoeCreates, Franek, @8pxl
the rest below are "modern" pixel artists too but I think they have other things in their style that are a bit different!
đ¨ Painterly:
Some artists choose to emulate the natural brushstrokes digitally, and keep their clusters large and loose. Usually don't focus on the minute details as much.
@makrustic, @hexh-pixel, Umbohr, Gawrone
đŚ Dithering
These artists all use dithering / texture in ways that make their styles totally unique.
Deceiver, Night, Reo,
đĽ Experimental
These artists are always trying new things and honing in on their unique style.
AJ, hby, @ilta222, Alphons
I could really go on for ever, there are so many different styles, cute pixel art, horror pixel art, 1bit (2 colours only), and then adding animation takes it even further, but I think you get the idea
If you want to learn more, the Masters of Pixel Art books have works /interviews from pixel artists of different eras, including demoscene and contemporary.

a humiliatingly long character analysis of lily evans
Someone sent me an ask that briefly mentioned how misunderstood Lily is, and before I knew it I was typing out this monster. I am. sorry. This is literally just me rambling about her, what I find compelling about her character, and why her character is so often misunderstood.
This is long as hell so I'm putting it under a read more lolol
Part of the reason I like Lily so much (other than my being ginger and projecting onto any redheaded female character I see) is that even though she isnât explored as much as her other Marauders Era counterparts, we know enough about her to start building the framework for her character. And what I see is a girl who was incredibly interesting, kind, and flawed.
One thing I always think about in regards to Lily is that she was dealt with a pretty unfair hand. As soon as she receives her letter, sheâs basically torn between two worlds, both of which have been less than welcome to her. On one hand, we have the muggle world that sheâs known all her life, but once she starts integrating into the wizarding world, she likely feels a bit of a disconnect with that world. To twist the knife further, her sister- whom she loved dearly and grew up so close with- starts outwardly resenting her with such unbridled hostility that they likely couldnât even be in a room alone together without major conflict.Â
On the other hand, we have the wizarding worldâ a world sheâs not as familiar with and one she soon learns holds a demographic of people who hate everything she is and would rather see her excommunicated or even dead. And even though finding out youâre a witch/wizard is probably such an exciting and life-changing moment, I canât help but also take note of the difficulties, especially if youâre the only one in your family with magic. Youâre essentially uprooted from the only way of life youâve known at an already complicated age, and now you have to quickly become acclimated to this new world that you only just found out existed. Not only that, but now youâre suddenly attending a school with classes that are primarily focused on this world of magic (which is still brand new to you), and you have to work extra hard to play catch up in order to do well. Like, that all seems like⌠a lot for a kid to handle.
And then I remember how young she was when she was thrown into that mess. She was only 11, and kids that age desperately crave any sense of belonging. I mean, thatâs something that still holds true for adults, but itâs especially critical for a developing child. So imagine Lily, ages 11-15, struggling to stay afloat in this weird purgatory between these two parts of herself, both of which have been the cause for major and traumatic experiences relating to rejection in her life.
(I say it was the âcauseâ even though itâs obvious that those things were never her fault at all, but when youâre a young kid navigating the world, the only thing youâre able to process is that the common denominator is you, therefore youâre the one who must shoulder the blame.)
So now we have this tween-teenaged girl who has a dysfunctional relationship with two major parts of identity and probably feels absolutely lost.Â
This is why her hesitancy to end her friendship with Snape makes sense to me. Even though by fifth year heâs already well past toeing the line with the dark arts, Lily was willing to overlook some pretty egregious and troubling things in order to maintain the relationship. I kind of interpret that as her way of desperately clinging on to any sense of belonging she has left; her relationship with Petunia has already been poisoned, and now there are people who resent her existence as a witch; if she loses Severus too, what and who else does she have? And what tone does that set for her, if everyone and everything sheâs come to hold close to her ends up turning her away?
Itâs also important to note that not only is Severus one of her few remaining connections to the muggle world, but heâs also a wizard who grew up in the muggle world; he understands her, and I donât doubt that he gave her some stability at times when she needed it (her finding out about her being a witch, her having trouble acclimating to the wizarding world, etc).
I see this as being one of her flaws and I can actually appreciate how relatable and realistic it feels. Lily is not a bad person; on the contrary, youâd be hard pressed to find anyone to describe her as such. Not to get all clinical and boring, but the interesting thing about (unhealthy) coping mechanisms is that it can actually be really hard to identify them in your own behavior. Unless youâre in therapy and/or are actively psychoanalyzing yourself, you likely donât even realize how many of your common behaviors are born from self defense mechanisms put in place by your brain after past events.
To me, it makes sense why she avoided actually confronting the idea that Snape was too far gone. We know that she was aware of the path Severus was taking, but it almost seems like she was still convinced that she could save him, and could possibly steer him back in the right direction. Itâs only when she becomes the target of his bigotry that she realizes that the Snape who called her a âmudbloodâ was not the same Severus who was the one who held her hand and introduced her to this new, exciting world.
In a general sense, yes, it is selfish, to only take a stand when something starts affecting you personally. But I also think itâs important to note that itâs unlikely that this was a conscious decision on Lilyâs part. In my eyes, it was easier to delude herself into thinking she still had a chance to save him before it was too late when she was able to separate him from his actions (considering, a lot of the time, she was only hearing about them after the fact, rather than seeing them firsthand). But the elusion is shattered once she sees that the Snape she grew up withâ her friend, Severusâ is, in fact, the same person whoâs out there calling other students slurs, dismissing the malicious use of Dark Magic on others as just âa laughâ. There we see a Lily who is actually revealed to have been somewhat aware of Snapeâs involvement with the darker side of magic, and genuinely feels pretty ashamed about her inaction.
Also, this is in no way me being a Snape-anti, and I actually could do an entire separate analysis on his character alone and why I find him so interesting.
Anyways, that moment in SWM is probably somewhat of an epiphany to her. Itâs like a dam thatâs been broken, and now sheâs overwhelmed with the realization of exactly how much she overlooked in order to keep their friendship afloat. And for someone like Lily Evans, someone whom we know is opinionated and unafraid to call others out on their bullshit, that can be hard to swallow and feel pretty mortifying and shameful. And I think this was a huge turning point for her- at that point, she doesnât have the luxury of avoiding uncomfortable truths anymore and now that sheâs getting closer to graduating and being thrown out into the world on the brink of war, this was probably a really sobering discovery.
This is where we donât have as much info to go off of, and a lot of it is up to interpretation. But we actually have little crumbs to go off of following her graduation and leading up to her death.
One of my favorite little tidbits isnât in the books, and @seriousbrat's post reminded me about it. Here's the actual entry on Pottermore for anyone who's interested, but I'll summarize: after James and Lily began dating, Lily brings James to meet newly engaged Petunia and Vernon. Everything goes downhill, because Vernon is a smarmy asshole, and James is still pretty immature and canât help but mess with him (which⌠fair, I guess). Petunia and Vernon storm out after Petunia letting Lily know that she had no intentions of having her as a bridesmaid, which causes Lily to break down into tears. I mention this because I also think itâs a pretty important aspect of her character; like weâve seen in her past friendship with Snape, Lily seems more than willing to forgive others most of the time. Petunia is a bit of a complicated character herself, but she was objectively very cruel and unfair to Lily once it became obvious that she was a witch and Petunia was not.
Something that always stands out to me is just how desperate Lily is to earn Petuniaâs trust and approval again. Even up until her death, she was more than willing to mend the relationship, were Petunia ever to consider.Â
This is a detail about Lily that I feel is misunderstood quite a bit. Iâve seen a lot of instances of her character being reduced to a one-dimensional archetype with little to no complexity. And often, that archetype is âknow-it-all, prudish, self righteous bookworm who is also a goody two-shoes with a stick up her assâ. What annoys me is that the reason for this is most definitely the scene in which she blows up at James in SWM for bullying Snape, and hurls quite a few insults at him directly after an extremely devastating and overwhelming situation for her. This frustrates me because we know for a fact that sheâs the polar opposite of this archetype Iâve seen her reduced to.Â
In actuality, sheâs referred to as popular, charming, witty, bright and kind. From flashbacks we also are shown that sheâs opinionated, bold, and not afraid to challenge others. With other context, like her interpersonal relationships, we can also see that sheâs pretty emotionally driven and wears her heart on her sleeve.Â
(I know Remus didnât mention Lily much in the books, but I really love how he described her in the movies. He tells Harry that the first thing he noticed about him was not his striking resemblance to his father, but his eyes, the same eyes Lily had. He also calls her a âsingularly gifted witchâ and an âuncommonly kind womanâ.
âShe had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even and perhaps most especially, when that person could not see it in themselves.â
I know there are mixed feelings on whether or not the films count as canon source material, so take it with a grain of salt, but I personally cannot see a world in which Lily and Remus didnât become close friends.)
Here we have a direct description of what she was like and who she was, corroborated by recounting of memories of her, and yet for some reason, this feels like the thing that is most commonly lost in translation.
I donât think I can say why I think that is without mentioning the dreaded M word (misogyny- itâs misogyny), but I also donât want to get too off topic so Iâll be brief: female characters are typically not given the same grace as male characters. When we have an undeveloped male character, heâs awarded the assumption that despite his lack of depth, there still exists a complex and multifaceted characterâ itâs merely just potential that hasnât been tapped into. Whereas when we have underdeveloped female characters, they are taken at face value, meaning that not much exists beyond the little information we have of them. They are not presumed to have a life or a story that exists beyond the surface of what we know like male characters are. Thatâs why I think characters like Regulus, Evan, or Barty (just to name a few) are more popular than Lily, despite being less developed than she is.
(Before anyone gets defensive, no, I donât think itâs an individual problem that you alone need to be shamed for. I think itâs the result of a deeper issue regarding misogyny in media as a concept; these are things that weâve all unknowingly internalized and while itâs not our fault, we still have to do the work to deconstruct those learned prejudices.)
What I find really cool about her character is that despite how much sheâs been hurt, sheâs also still known as one of the most loving, kind, and considerate characters. There were so many times in her life where the love she received was conditional and ripped away from herâ and I think thatâs what makes her sacrifice even more poignant. She was able to protect her infant son from an extremely powerful dark wizard, wand-less, knowing that her husband was just murdered in cold blood, just from how much love she felt for Harry. Her love was a force of nature on its own, and I just think thatâs such an amazing thing about her.Â
I know Iâm biased, given that sheâs one of my favorite characters, but even upon delving into this, I still just find it so incredibly hard to understand how anyone can actively hate her (not indifference, but actual dislike). In my opinion (again, no one is unbiased, and she is a favorite character of mine, but trust me when I say that Iâm trying to be objective as possible when I say this), sheâs probably one of the most likable characters of the Marauders Era. I think perhaps a lot of people havenât given her a chance or really taken the time to learn about her character, but it could be a myriad of other reasons that Iâll never understand.Â
There's so much more I could say but this is long enough and I will stop myself
Lily Evans, u will always be famous to me
#lily evans#character analysis#harry potter#i am a little embarrassed that i got so invested in this. i hope at least one person enjoys this insane essay that no one asked for

giving my thoughts and ideas on Ratio's character stories
I wouldn't call this much of an analysis but we'll see how it goes
Starting out with his first character story, most of it is Professor Rond's recommendation letter.
I'd like to start by sharing my thoughts about Ratio and Rond first before actually getting into dissecting the letter itself.
So, firstly, I'd like to mention that (to my knowledge) we have never heard of or from Ratio's parents. I find that ironic considering what a big shot he is, I doubt that his parents would ever willingly shut up about their son.
Reading that Rond had a 'significant influence on Ratio's upbringing' particularly stands out to me because, at least at the time of the original letter being written, Ratio was in secondary school (Grade 9-12, though some of the wording in the letter lead me to believe he was likely on the lower end of that range).
Now, a high school teacher having a 'significant influence' on someone's upbringing isn't necessarily uncommon, nor are old teachers proud of their past students becoming extremely successful. However these points, alongside the fact that Ratio's parents are nowhere to be seen in canon, lead me to believe that there was some sort of familial relationship between them, especially seeing Rond's reaction to being asked about Ratio as well as how he had kept the original letter.
Moving on to the actual letter.
Grade skipping is a pretty common practice where I'm from, as it allows learning at the appropriate/needed level (ignoring the fact that the school system is in shambles).
However, the way this is phrased is as if Rond were trying to convince him to be able to skip grades. If he were in grade 11 or 12 I feel like it would not have been phrased this way, which is what leads me to believe he was likely younger, possibly fresh out of middle school.
The highlight on creativity is just because it makes me smile honestly, also it ties into one of my earlier posts about how I think Ratio would adore the subject of art.
I would like to return to my point of Rond being a potential parental figure to Ratio, seeing as he seems to know his daily routine well enough to confidently write about it in his letter of recommendation.
On to his second character story, which is mostly online posts in a thread-like format.
It wasn't until his eighth doctoral degree that he was awarded with First Class Honors, also since he is the first person to receive such in two amber eras it means he was likely the only one on stage at that time.
It also states that at the time he was already a prominent figure in society, which doesn't surprise me given the accomplishments listed by Rond in the letter despite him being in high school at the time it was written. However, he would most likely be an adult by the time he finished his eighth doctorate.
No real comment on this I found it funny that they put etc instead of continuing to list fields.
I also just find these funny and wanted to share them, but the disagreement on the last comment shows how much people admire him. I feel like that's a topic that's rather watered down in the fandom, but people genuinely admire Ratio a lot and there's plenty of reason for them to.
full-time university teachers tend to teach about 5 courses per academic year, meaning Ratio has been teaching for about 10 years.
Moving onto the third story, which is a statement from a former assistant of his about his desire to join the genius society.
I find this to be an interesting point, it seems like joining the Genius Society would be an obvious next step for a man with so many accomplishments but it's stated not once, but twice that he has never spoken about the subject (to the public at least).
I am a believer in the theory that Ratio hasn't been allowed into the Genius Society due to his humanity/compassion and his desire to spread knowledge to everyone, and I feel like this specification that he's never spoken about the topic could add to this theory.
This paragraph never fails to break my heart, but I do want to talk about the mention of an anti-planetary weapon. I feel like this Anti-planetary weapon that he spent years perfecting was a final attempt at proving to Nous that he wasn't too compassionate or too humane to receive their gaze. I remember reading about this idea more in detail elsewhere and if I can find the analyzation then I'll link it here.
Also, I feel like deep down he always knew that he wouldn't be accepted into the Genius Society, but this day, as Margaret states, was the day he finally realized it, or, fully swallowed that pill.
I find these comments to be interesting as well since they specify the narrow-mindedness of the society however, there is this comment from the Data Bank;
This comment I admittedly stumbled across when looking for something else, but I feel like it perfectly encapsulates Ratio's entire dilemma with the Genius Society, maybe not to Ratio himself but it certainly applies to everyone who comments on his achievements being worthy of Nous' approval.
I am also quite curious about who exactly wrote the 'Decoding Dr. Ratio' that we have read from in all of his character stories. They seem to have a lot of connections for someone who would typically be seen as just another paparazzi or media interviewer, I'm surprised the people listed in his stories would agree to an interview.
Onto his final story, which is about his personality and methods of sharing knowledge.
I mentioned this comment in my character notes post but I find it extremely charming that Ratio remains the same and refuses to change himself or his personality to satisfy those around him.
It is also commented in his second character story by a previous professor of his that his honesty and straightforwardness were a 'Breath of fresh air' at the University.
I love the implication that either; nobody in the entire room had any questions (unlikely), or that they were simply too scared to ask them.
I also find the comment that 'Whenever someone agrees with me, I feel like I must be wrong.' Perhaps he's gotten used to being the only one thinking the way he is or the possibility that people only agree with him so they sound intelligent themselves and weren't truly listening or understanding.
I find these comments interesting as well, a majority of the fandom mischaracterizes Ratio as mean or rude although he literally explains his viewpoints where anyone can access it (which does honestly prove his point about how knowledge is not for everyone.)

INTRICATE.
hi so itâs been a WHILE. uhhhh rewatched challengers for the thousandth time and it broke me out of my writers block! i donât know how im going to continue w this, so feel free to drop any ideas and ill add it to the lore đ note: series prob isnât gonna end with any smut scene bc im incapable of writing one without it sounding stupid asf! but who knows, you might be surprised
cw: 1.4k words,,, art and reader are dating but fighting, set in stanford era, tashi is NOT injured, patashi, hints of reader crushing on tashi but repressing it, fighting, tensiontensionTENSION! basically everyone is friends with one another but they all want each other BAD. lmk what else i should add :)
âitâs complicated.â thatâs what you say every time someone asks you what your relationship with art donaldson is. and itâs trueâ you guys are fiery, but not explosive. complex, but not convoluted. itâs just⌠strange. intricate. hence, complicated.
you think heâd probably say the same thing, but thereâs no real way to know, since you canât exactly ask. the two of you arenât on speaking terms right now, and for the same reason you two stopped talking last time, and the time before that.
art donaldson canât split his time between his girlfriend and his fucking best friendâs girlfriend. and you can recite the argument quite well, maybe even word for word; itâs still fresh in your mind, engraved there.
âcâmon, you canât just keep ditching me for her. itâs annoying, and it hasnât just happened once or twice, you know.â
âi know.â art sighed, a hand tangled in his hair as if to ground himself. your name fell from his lips, voice cracking midway. âwhat do you want me to do? she needed help with her physics homework.â
âshe can get one of her fucking groupies to help her! sheâs a big girl, she doesnât need to rely on you.â the way you said it, mocking and condescending, was mean, and you know it. you donât hate tashiâ you canât even bring yourself to dislike her. but it hurts every single time you text art on your motorola and get hit back with some half-assed variation of âhelping tashi. sry :( iâll come later.â he never actually shows up at âlaterâ, which only rubs salt in the wound.
artâs jaw ticked. his eyebrows furrowed and eyes darkened in a way youâd only seen once before, when someone was talking shit about tashi in the cafeteria. you had watched as she calmly reassured art that is was fine, that he needed to relax, but he only shook his head and clenched his fists. in that moment, you wondered if he ever got that angry if he overheard someone talking about you. you now doubt it.
âdonât talk about her like that.â he said it calmly, but your skin still prickled. âsheâs an accomplished lady. what about you? what have you done?â
if you sounded condescending before, it was nothing compared to how he sounded then. you scoffed away the sinking feeling in your stomach, blinked back the sting in your eyes. there was a lot you could have said to him then: âi might not be half as good at tennis as she is, but thatâs less embarrassing than being second-best to her boyfriend.â or âi didnât compete for her number and lose.â hell, even a good âfuck youâ would have sufficed.
instead, you just stood there, frozen, as he grabbed his stanford sweatshirt and left.
when you tell the story to patrick, he laughs, and doesnât stop laughing until you jab him with your elbow, effectively knocking the oxygen out of him. his hands raise in mock surrender before speaking. âsorry, itâs just funny to see him get like this, i guess.â
you frown. âwhatâs that supposed to mean?â
âi mean that he likes you, but he likes tashi. i know it, tashi knows it, and from what i heard on the walk hereââ he gestures vaguely towards the door to your dorm, ââthe school knows it, too. i dunno, i guess itâs amusing âcause art has never been so disturbed about this kind of shit. usually he just picks the girl he likes best, but he canât.â
âyou mean he canât because youâre dating her.â
patrick smirks his signature smirk. you have the urge to punch his teeth out; vagueness is beginning to be a pet peeve of yours. âno, iâve told him that tashi is free reign.â
the way your stomach flutters at that is shameful. you push the feeling away. âlike, you guys arenât..?â
patrick shrugs. âi mean, currently she hates me because i said iâd go to her match yesterday and i missed it.â these guys really need to stop promising us stuff, you think. âbut yeah, when she isnât pissed off, weâre dating, and we talk about it. âbout you guys. she doesnât really care if the two of you make moves on either one of us.â
you donât say anything, but your ears feel warm, and your heart is about to explode out of your chest. it doesnât help when patrick takes that as a sign to keep talking and saysâ
âi donât care either.â it suddenly hits you, the closeness between you and him. close enough that you can smell his cologne, one typical of a rich frat boy youâd pass by in the halls. but it feels different, with him. patrickâs smirk has shifted into a grin, a big one. you realize heâs been gauging your reaction, and is thoroughly pleased.
âoh,â you breathe. he snickers, repeats it back playfully. you donât understand how heâs so relaxed, able to make light-hearted jabs in this moment. art likes you and tashi. tashi doesnât care if he likes her, or if you like her. patrick doesnât either. but where do you stand in this?
your phone jingles, the sound muffled from the blood roaring in your ears. you donât know if you should thank or curse out whoever decided to call you at this second, but you excuse yourself to answer. patrick nods begrudgingly, backs up enough for you to have room to finally start to inhale and exhale again. âhello?â
âhey.â itâs art on the phone. impulsively, you look around, as if heâs hiding somewhere in the dorm he marched out of a few days ago.
holy fuck. âhey!â you sound too cheery to your own ears, and hope that over the line it sounds more convincing. you hear a sigh on the other end, and can imagine art physically loosen. âwhat, uhâ i thought you were mad. at me.â
patrick perks up. âart?â he mouths, and you nod. he attempts to come closer, but you swat at him, moving a few steps away. he pulls a face, but doesnât move closer. still, heâs definitely trying to hear what art is saying.
âi was.â art laughs nervously, the sound tinny over the phone. âbut youâre right. i fucked up. tashi⌠she isnât my girl. i need to pay more attention to you, and thatâs gonna happen starting now.â
she isnât my girl. âshe could be,â you think aloud. you tense. art chokes. patrick stifles a laugh.
âwhat?â you pray that he didnât hear it. you had mumbled it, whispered it, thereâs a chance it didnât pick up. art says your name one, two, three times before you respond.
âsorry, i just zoned out a little.â
âno, you said something. baby, whatâd you say?â
âi said âyou should beâ. like, you should be paying more attention, dumb joke, i was trying to sound threatening,â you slap your free hand against your lips to stop your word vomit, then your forehead as you reprimand yourself for acting so stupid.
art hums. âoh, okay.â it should relieve some on the tension in your shoulders, but it doesnât. he usually laughs when you fluster, but he didnât. is he unconvinced, or are you overthinking? âhey, tomorrow can you come to my practice at noon? we can go to the cafeteria after, iâve got wayyy too many meal credits.â
you look to patrick for help, but he shrugs, enjoying the moment. âsure.â
art says his goodbyes, goes âmwah!â through the phone (which usually makes you laugh, but now you feel bad), and once you say bye, he hangs up.
âiâll go to his practice, too.â itâs never a question with patrick (or with tashi); he just lets you know. âtashiâll be there. sheâs always on the court when sheâs free.â you find it endearing that he knows her schedule.
âtashi.â you like the way her name rolls off your tongue, but youâd rather die than admit it.
before you can say anything else, patrick walks over, swings an arm around your shoulders and pulls you close. âdonât forget about what i said.â his breath smells like spearmint gum, the type art is always chewing. maybe he gave him a piece. âjust think on it, yeah?â
you nod, and he pats your cheek before walking out the door, leaving you feeling dazed. after a few moments of just laying on your bed, soaking in the conversation you just had, your phone dings.
weâll see u tmrw :-) -pat (&tash)

A/N: This is a repost from one of my old Tumblr accounts. I altered the timeline a little to make this flow better. I realize that Gilderoy lost his memory during the Chamber of Secrets era. I also realize that Severus didn't take on the DADA teaching position until Harry's 6th year. I just wanted to make that clear for everyone. :) Enjoy!Â
"HmmâŚdifficult, very difficult. Mmm yes, lots of ambition and very loyal too. A hint of creativity, but you seem to mask it well with your bravery...â
As the sorting hatâs voice echoed throughout the Great Hall, your mind began to flood with the past weekâs events.Â
It was the day after your eighteenth birthday when you discovered your Hogwarts letter. Your grandmother had been a great witch and even taught at Hogwarts after she finished her seventh year. From the moment you were born, she knew you were destined for good things. Your parents had forbidden her from using magic around you and even went so far as to hide your letter of acceptance on your eleventh birthday. It wasnât until you were going through some of your childhood toys in the attic that you came across it.Â
The letter was stuck to the back of an old photo album, and the writing had nearly faded completely. You ran your fingers over the yellowing parchment, the tip of your index finger raising slightly as it slid over the sealing wax. You recognized the symbol immediately. Your grandmother had it all over her house, and youâd thought it to be your familyâs crest. The wax gave way easily and you pulled the letter out as carefully as you could. Your heart began to race and your breath caught in your throat. The letter was for you! You had been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.Â
You blinked and brought yourself back to reality, the hat seemed to be finishing up his assessment.
â...better make it...Slytherin!â
The table full of students to the far right of the hall erupted in cheer as you walked towards them. You took your seat and after the rest of the first years were sorted into their houses, the Headmaster approached the podium. He raised his hands and without saying a word, the whole room went silent.Â
âWelcome! Welcome, everyone! It is my great pleasure to start off a new school year with a few minor changes. As many of you know, Gilderoy Lockhart is no longer capable of teaching. It seems a memory charm backfired and heâs lost all memory of who he is. Be that as it may, I am very pleased to announce that our own Severus Snape will be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.â
Your eyes scanned the teachers at the head table and stopped when they landed on a man who looked slightly younger than the others. He stood and nodded ever so slightly before taking his seat again. Your gaze lingered on him as Professor Dumbledore continued on with his speech.
âThus itâs only fitting that the one and only Professor Horace Slughorn takes Severusâ place as Potions teacher.â
Another professor stood up from the table and smiled as a round of applause reverberated off the walls.
âNow that weâve determined who will be teaching what subject, I have an additional announcement to make. All students will refrain from entering the forbidden forest. Anyone who isnât experienced enough to handle themselves will most certainly die a very horrible death. Now, without further interruption, let the feast begin!âÂ
With a wave of his hand, the empty plates filled with a delicious-looking meal. You ate quietly as the other Slytherins talked and carried on. Every so often, you turned to look at the mysterious man with the all-black attire. Mysterious didnât even begin to describe him. Even though it wasnât classified as magic, you had always found yourself skilled in reading people.
He looked particularly confident, his shoulder-length, black hair bouncing slightly as he talked amongst the other teachers. There was just something you couldnât quite put your finger on. Was it pain? The very moment you thought the word to yourself, his eyes snapped up to yours. Horrified that you were caught staring, you quickly turned your attention to your plate. Had he read your mind?Â
Deciding not to dwell on it any longer, you continued eating your meal thinking about the new chapter in your life. Though you didnât know much about Hogwarts and the world of magic, you did know that this house, in particular, had a bad reputation. Your grandmother was a Ravenclaw, and would sometimes divulge knowledge about the other houses. The one thing you remembered about Slytherin was that its founder believed only certain people should be allowed to attend this school and practice magic.
Purebloods.Â
You were the farthest thing from being a pureblood. In fact, you were what other witches and wizards would call a Muggle. That was another thing you learned from your grandma. Muggle was a term used to describe someone who had non-magic blood, or the less liked derogatory name, mud-blood. The fork in your left hand scraped across your plate as you pushed your food around aimlessly.
Why on Earth would the sorting hat put you in Slytherin?Â
Soon, dinner was over and the prefects led the students back to their respective common rooms. You followed the other female students to the girlâs dormitory and found your trunk and owl had already been brought in. Nova chirped and tilted her head when she saw you, and you couldnât help but giggle.
âMiss me already, sweetheart? Well, I missed you too.â
The soft feathers on her head slid between your fingers while you talked to her. Even though she didnât talk back, it was always nice to feel like someone was listening.Â
You settled on your bed and began drawing in your sketchpad as the other girls in your room talked amongst themselves. Their conversation hardly registered with you, your focus solely on the drawing of Nova you were currently working on. It wasnât until one of the other girls tapped you on your shoulder that you noticed they were talking to you.
âHellooo? Were you even listening to us?â
You set your sketch pad next to you on the bed and looked up at the three girls staring at you intently.
âS-Sorry, I didnât realize you were talking to me. I was um ⌠I was focused on my drawing.âÂ
The girl closest to you rolled her eyes and huffed impatiently.
âI said, why arenât you eleven like the other first years?â
There it was, the question you knew would be asked eventually. You just didnât think youâd have to answer it this soon.
âMy um⌠Well, I suppose itâs because my parents hid my acceptance letter from me.â
The one with the blonde hair began to laugh.
âWhy thatâs absurd. Why anyone would hide a Hogwarts letter from their child is beyond me. Unless⌠wait⌠are you, not a pureblood?â
A sudden feeling of shame overtook you and your gaze wandered to your lap, a loose string on your blanket became instantly more interesting.
âI-I⌠Well, no⌠Iâve got non-magic parents actually.â
The third girl scoffed. âDaphne, can you believe they let scum like this into our house?â
Blondie, who you presumed to be Daphne, snatched your sketchbook off the bed and tore it in two, and laughed. âServes her right. Mud-bloods donât belong in Slytherin.â
She drew her wand and pushed the tip into the skin of your throat making your whole body quake in fear.
âListen up you vile little wretch, youâd better not lose us any house points if you value your life at all. Understand?âÂ
Tears pricked your eyes as you nodded quickly. âY-Yes⌠Yes, I-I understand.â
She removed her wand and the two other girls followed close behind as they left the room. Closing your eyes, you took a few deep breaths trying to slow the rapid beating of your heart. A few minutes later, you let out a shaky breath and began to clean up the remnants of your sketch pad. Luckily, this was a brand new one and Daphne hadnât torn up anything too valuable.Â
Once you were finished, you slipped on your shoes and held out your arm to Nova. She chirped happily and sidestepped to your shoulder. Staying in your room anywhere near the other Slytherin girls was the last thing you wanted to do, so you decided to explore the castle grounds a little before bed. After all, it was only Friday night, and classes didnât start for another two weeks.Â
The crisp, fall air licked at your skin the moment you stepped out into the courtyard. It felt good to breathe the fresh air and you suspected that Nova felt the same. She immediately took flight and let out a happy screech. Part of you envied her. Being able to soar as high as the clouds away from all the negativity was something you could only dream of doing.Â
You wandered around the castle grounds until you spotted a hut nestled at the edge of a tree line. The stone exterior and the pointed roof reminded you of the fairytales your parents used to read as bedtime stories when you were little. Light grey smoke billowed out of the chimney and you could faintly hear someone humming. Curiosity got the better of you, and you soon found yourself at the foot of the steps.Â
Before you could knock, the front door swung open and none other than Hagrid looked down at you.
âWhy âello there, lass! Teh what do I owe yeh the pleasure?â
Youâd only known him for a few hours, but you could tell that Hagrid had a big heart and good intentions.
âI just needed some fresh air that's all. Things are⌠a bit much in my house.â
Hagrid studied you as you spoke. It didnât take a genius to know something was bothering you, and he saw right through the fake smile plastered on your face.
âWhy donât yeh come in fer a spot of tea? I can tell something is troublinâ yeh.âÂ
It became a sort of routine, the evenings youâd spend with the Hogwarts groundskeeper. After Hagrid had learned the way the other Slytherins were treating you, heâd made it clear that you could spend the night in his spare room any time you needed to. You insisted on paying him for his hospitality, but he always refused. All he had ever asked in return was help taking care of the mythical creatures. Most would probably view it as a chore, but you found it extremely therapeutic.Â
Friday evening before school started, you noticed Hagrid was missing from the teacherâs table. After dinner, you jogged along the path to his house and noticed the lights inside his hut were off.
Hmm...thatâs weird, you thought to yourself.
Normally, heâd be making a pot of tea right about now. Tentatively, you walked up the steps and lightly knocked on his door.
âHagrid? Hey, are you home? Itâs Y/NâŚâ You tried the door, and it opened easily. âHagrid? Iâm coming inâŚâ
Fang peeked at you over his paw and yawned lazily. Other than the glow of the fire, nothing showed signs that he was home. As quietly as you could you walked to the back towards his bedroom. There, wrapped up in blankets and looking beyond miserable, was the half-giant himself.Â
âOh, Hagrid⌠whatâs the matter? You look like you feel awful.â
He coughed and sneezed a few times before blowing his nose into a hankey. His skin was clammy, and he looked like he hadnât slept in days.
âIâm sick, lass. Yeh shouldnât come near me if ye know whatâs good fer ya.â
Out of instinct you put the underside of your wrist against his forehead and grimaced.
âHagrid, youâre burning up! Come on! We have to get you to Madame Pomfrey.âÂ
You helped him stand and carefully started to lead him toward the castle. It took nearly fifteen minutes, but finally, you were able to get him to the hospital wing. Madame Pomfrey motioned to a bed and helped you lay him down. She insisted that she keep him overnight so she could monitor him, but Hagrid was having none of it.
âNo! Absolutely not! I canât stay âere overnight. Whoâll feed Fang an all me other beasts? Buckbeak ainât the nicest Hippogriff when heâs missed a meal yeh know.âÂ
Your hand came down to cover his as you looked him in the eyes.
âHagrid, please...stay here and let Madame Pomfrey take care of you. Iâll take care of feeding them tonight, okay? Itâs not like I havenât helped you make your rounds for the past week and a half.â
The groundskeeper sighed with defeat and nodded.
âAlright Y/N, Iâll stay an let yeh take care oâ my pets, but yeh have ta promise me youâll be careful.âÂ
You gave him a soft smile and stood to smooth out your robes. âDonât worry, Hagrid. Iâll be quick and efficient just like you taught me. I even made myself a list so I remember which animal eats what as well as where theyâre all located. Iâve got this!â
Before he could change his mind, you hurried out of the room and back to his hut to grab what you needed. According to the list, you had five different species to feed tonight. The unicorns, Buckbeak the hippogriff, Fluffy the three-headed dog, the centaurs, and Aragog the acromantula.
None of these mythical beasts ever acted like they were harmful, but they werenât to be taken lightly either. Not to mention you were with Hagrid every time youâd fed them before. After loading up the bags with their food, you made sure you had your wand before approaching the edge of the forest. It didnât matter what time of day it was, the shadow from the trees always made the forest dark and a thin layer of mist lingered near the forest floor.Â
Fluffy was first on your list. His doghouse was about fifty feet within the forest. Brandishing your wand, you cast Lumos Maxima and took the trail to the west. A few minutes later, you could hear light snores echoing off the trees. Making sure you had the three slabs of meat at the ready, you whistled to get the giant beastâs attention.Â
"Fluffy! I got you some dinner!"
The dog's left head yawned enthusiastically and you couldn't help but chuckle.
"Alright, that's enough sleeping. It's time for some yummy meat!"
The middle head began to growl and bare its teeth at you while the one on the right shook its head back and forth violently.
"There we go, nice and easyâŚ" You slowly got closer and gently set the slabs of meat within his reach before backing off."Â
You stuck around long enough to make sure he saw the food and then walked north towards the part of the forest where unicorns made their homes. It surprised you to learn that they preferred witches over wizards. Hagrid had told you that they were very fast, so much so that they could outrun a werewolf.Â
Instead of trying to seek them out, he set up feed pails around their homes and filled them with food. As you were filling the pails, you saw a golden blur out of the corner of your eye. It startled you at first, but then you remembered Hagrid telling you that unicorn fouls were gold in color.Â
Staying completely still, you waited until it poked its head out from behind the tree.
"Hi, sweetheart. You want some food?"
At the mention of food, the foul whinnied and slowly approached your outstretched hand. It broke your heart that these beautiful creatures were nearly extinct. You gave light scratches to the tufts of fur behind its ears, the serene moment nearly making you forget where you were.Â
After hand-feeding the baby for a few minutes, you quickly filled the rest of the pails before heading towards the centaurs. Hagrid always made sure you remembered how proud the centaur breed was. They didn't like to be classified as "beasts" along with thestrals, merfolk, or werewolves. They also ate both human and equine food.Â
It was a good thing you remembered to grab both types. You didn't want to upset them at all, let alone do so without Hagrid around to protect you. As you approached their den, a familiar face came to greet you.
"Good evening, Y/N."
Firenze stood tall as he looked down at you, his unwavering gaze making you a bit nervous.
"H-Hey! Sorry, it took me a bit to get here. Hagrid isn't feeling well, and I had to take him to the hospital wing."Â
The creature nodded and uncrossed his arms.
"That's quite alright. I see you brought my colony dinner."
You offered a smile and held out two big knapsacks of food. "I did! I wasn't sure what you would prefer so I came bearing a variety of things...I-I hope that's okay."
Firenze chuckled and placed one of his large hands on your shoulder. "That's very kind of you, Y/N. Please give Hagrid my best. I do hope he recovers quickly."
With a nod and a wave, you watched him until he was out of sight.Â
Adjusting the bag on your shoulder, you turned east and walked in the direction of the area Buckbeak frequented. Youâd come to love the Hippogriff ever since Hagrid introduced you to him. It only took you about five minutes to navigate the trail before you could hear the excited bleats coming from a group of trees. Making sure to stop the moment you crested the hill, you made eye contact with Buckbeak and bowed low.
The Hippogriff turned and tilted its head momentarily and then bowed in return. You took the dead ferrets out of the bag and tossed them in the air for him to catch. When you ran out he nudged the side of your face and chirped happily.
âYes, I love you too, Beaky. Youâre a good boy!â
Kissing his beak sweetly, you bade him goodnight and walked south toward the heart of the forest. Time to feed the final species on your list.
Aragog.
Even though they were capable of human speech, acromantulas were the one beast you had a fear of. As you approached Aragogâs lair, hundreds of tiny spiders crawled on the ground next to you. Taking a few deep breaths to compose yourself, you crept into the pitch-black den with your senses on high alert. At the heart of it sat the beast himself.
âWho dares to come into my home?â
With a shaky hand, you reached into your bag and quickly pulled out a dead fox as an offering.Â
âA-Aragog? Itâs umâŚitâs Y/N, the one who has been coming with Hagrid to feed you. I have umm⌠I have some birds and foxes for you.â
The large arachnid stalked closer to you, its eyes like black holes as it seemed to stare into your soul.
âYes⌠the young fleshy girl who claims to be a friend of Hagrid. Tell me, where is my keeper? What have you done to him?âÂ
The hairs on the back of your neck stood on end and your fight or flight instincts began to kick in.
âI-I-I didnât do anything to him. He⌠he isnât feeling well and I told him Iâd come and bring you dinnerâŚâ
You hadnât realized you were backing up until your heel caught a crooked root poking through the ground. Pain shot through your ankle as you fell against the floor of the den. Aragog clicked his fangs together and you flinched as his voice boomed around you angrily.
âI donât believe you! Iâve known Hagrid for over fifty years, and not once has he missed a feeding!â
As graceful as your sprained ankle would allow, you scrambled to your feet and dumped the dead birds and foxes on the ground in front of you.
âH-Hereâs your food⌠I⌠Iâm just gonna goâŚâ
The venom from his fangs began to drip on the ground as he moved even closer to you.
âGo? Oh, I donât think so, friend of Hagrid. Those foxes and birds may sate my son's and daughter's hunger, but they won't satisfy me."
Ignoring the throb in your injured foot, you clambered out of the den as fast as you could. Branches swatted you in the face as you sprinted toward Hagrid's hut. Aragog was hot on your heels as the castle grounds became more and more visible. Just a few more feet and you'd be safe.Â
A rotted tree trunk caught your eye, but it was too late for you to avoid it. You hit the ground with a sickening thud, your wrist that broke your fall was surely broken. Turning to face the fastly approaching acromantula, you pleaded for him to stop.
"Aragog, please! âŚ.I...I didn't do anything to Hagrid⌠please don't hurt me!"Â
The giant spider loomed over you, its fangs clicking together violently.
"Goodbye, friend of HagridâŚ"
You let out a blood-curdling scream as its pincers tore into your flesh, the moonlight fading away until you slipped into unconsciousness.Â
Nights were usually the time Severus took to think. It was his free time, save for the occasional disobedient student wandering the corridors. He'd just walked past the open courtyard when a small owl flew down to land on his shoulder.
"Get off me you insolent bird!"
It let out a screech and circled him before settling on his other arm.Â
"Merlinâs beard, what is it that you want?!"
Just as he was about to send it away, he noticed a small charm bracelet attached to the owl's left leg. Curious, he cast Lumos and read the inscription.Â
Name: Nova Jane
Property of: Y/F/N Y/L/N
"I see...you're the property of the new Slytherin girl. Go on then! Go back to the dormitory."
Nova nipped at the buttons on his sleeve and screeched loudly. Just as Severus was about to scare it off, your scream echoed throughout the castle grounds.
"Take me to her! Now!"
Nova took flight and soared in the direction of the Forbidden Forest. Severus ran as quickly as he could, his robes flowing behind him like a cape. His heart thundered against his chest as he broke through the treeline.Â
The moment he saw Hagrid's acromantula towering over you, he drew his wand and aimed for its head.
"AVADA KEDAVRA!"
The spell sent Aragog catapulting backward, its body falling lifeless against the base of a large tree.
Seeing you lying there motionless made his blood run cold.
"Oh, MerlinâŚno no no..."
He sank down in the mud and put two fingers against your neck, a breath of relief falling from his lips when a faint pulse fluttered against them. His eyes scanned your body, worry prickling his skin at the number of deep cuts you had. He knew you wouldn't survive if he didn't act now.Â
With a shaky hand, he pointed his wand to the deep gash in your abdomen.
"Vulnera sanenturâŚ"
A glow illuminated from it and within seconds it was as if the wound never existed. He did the same for the other large wounds as well as your wrist and ankle before lifting you into his arms. He may have stopped the bleeding, but you still had the acromantula's venom flowing freely in your veins. He only had a few minutes to reverse the toxins.Â
Closing his eyes, he apparated to his sleeping chambers and gently laid you on his bed. Severus worked quickly to mix up the antivenom. Once it was mixed properly, he used a syringe to inject it into all of your main arteries.Â
It became a waiting game. You'd lost a lot of blood, nearly too much, and all Severus could do now was hope you'd wake up. He found himself pacing, checking your pulse every so often to make sure you were still breathing. Eventually, the adrenaline in his body wore off, and it made him realize how tired he was.Â
He shed his robe, toed his shoes off, and with a snap of his fingers, a fire began to crackle and pop in the fireplace. He sat and pondered to himself. What was he supposed to do with you? It wasn't like he could take you to Madame Pomfrey now. Not after he'd healed you the best he could. Plus, he was sure the other Hogwarts staff would question him on why he took you back to his chambers. Honestly, he wasn't even sure why he'd done it. He acted on pure instinct.Â
His gaze wandered over to where you were laying. Severus felt himself relax upon seeing your chest rise and fall. He'd done it. He'd saved you. His eyes began to get heavy as he listened to your soft breathing. Unable to stay awake any longer, he let sleep consume him.Â
The smell of tea filled your nostrils as you tried to recall where you were. Last night's events flooded your mind and your eyes immediately snapped open.Â
Scanning the room, your brows furrowed in confusion. This wasn't the hospital wing, and it definitely wasn't Hagrid's. You sat up, your back against the headboard, and scanned your exposed skin. Other than a few bruises, there wasn't any sign of injury on you at all. Had it all been a dream?Â
The sound of the door opening brought you out of your thoughts. Your eyes widened at the sight of your Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher carrying a teacup and saucer.
"Oh, you're up. Good." He strode over and set the cup down on the nightstand next to you. "Drink this. It'll help you feel better."Â
You blinked up at him, your eyes staring into his obsidian ones. Even though he wore a scowl ninety percent of the time, your professor wasn't bad looking. In fact, you found him quite attractive. His form-fitting robes with all those buttons and his confidence drew you in almost immediately.Â
It was then that you remembered he'd spoken to you. Forcing your brain to form words, you stuttered out a response.
"I...umâŚth-thank you, ProfessorâŚ"
His stone-faced expression didn't waver as he sat down on the comforter next to you.
"Why, Y/N? Why would you put yourself in danger like that?! You could have been killed! Merlin, if it wasn't for your insolent bird, you would have been!"Â
You focused on your lap, your cheeks red with shame.
"M'sorry⌠I was just t-trying to help Hagrid fe-"
You slapped your hand over your mouth and internally cursed yourself. Hagrid made you promise not to tell anyone you were helping him, and here you've almost told none other than Professor Snape!Â
"Go onâŚ"
Shaking your head, you moved to get off the bed.
"I⌠I can't⌠Thank you for saving me, Professor. I'll just be goingâŚ"
His firm hand came to rest on your thigh and with little force, he pushed you back down onto the bed.
"Listen to me, Y/N. I'm your Head of House. Either you tell me what you were doing in that forest, or I'll make you tell me."Â
The demand in his tone sent shivers down your spine. It really should be a sin to have a voice like his.
"I-I...umâŚ"
Severus rolled his eyes and stood to walk across the room. He came back with a vial, with a small amount of liquid in the bottom.
"Know what this is?"
You shook your head.
"This is Veritaserum. Three drops of this, and it'll make you spill your darkest...of secretsâŚ"Â
You watched as he poured the small amount of liquid into a glass of butterbeer.
"DrinkâŚ"
Instead of obeying his orders you grabbed the teacup off the saucer and swallowed its contents.
"Thank you, Professor, but Iâm no longer thirsty and I don't like butterbeer."Â
For the first time since you arrived at Hogwarts, his lips gave a hint of a smile.
"It's no matter. What do you suppose I did with the rest of the serum, hm?"
All the color drained from your face, your mouth opening and closing like you were a fish out of water.Â
"The teaâŚ"
Your professor chuckled, "Yes, the tea. Now, tell me, what were you doing in the Forbidden Forest after curfew?"
You couldn't stop them. It was as if you were possessed. The words came flowing out of you on their own accord.
"I was helping Hagrid feed his mythical creatures. He's in the infirmary sick and I offered to do it so he didn't have to."Â
Severus narrowed his eyes. "How long have you been doing this?"
You swallowed thickly. âSince the first day of school. Some of the other Slytherin girls were bullying me so I went for a walk. It was then that I formally met Hagrid. He offered me his spare bedroom, and Iâve been sleeping there ever sinceâŚâ
He rose to his feet and began pacing again, his hands behind his back. âAnd he lets you stay...for free?âÂ
âI can stay as long as I help him tend to the mythical creatures that live in the forest. He taught me everything he knows and I help him with feedings.â
Severus stopped and turned to face you. âDid you ever think of coming to me for help with the bullying? I am the Head of Slytherin you know.âÂ
Oh, how you wished you could hold back the words threatening to escape. No matter how hard you tried, it was no use.
âI was too nervous to come to you, Professor.â
He raised an eyebrow, his hands fidgeting out in front of him. He knew his presence intimidated most of the children attending Hogwarts, but he decided to use this to his advantage.
âObviously...And why, do you suppose, I make you so nervous, Y/N?âÂ
âI suppose itâs because Iâm in love with you.â
Your response came out just above a whisper, but he still heard every word. Out of every scenario in his mind, Severus did not expect you, a young woman, to say that. For a rare moment in his life, he was rendered speechless. It took him a moment to collect himself, but once he did he noticed your face was buried in your hands. Merlin, help him, you were crying and it was all his fault.Â
He slowly moved to where you were laying and sat down so he was at your level. Without giving it any thought, he pulled you into his chest and began rubbing small circles on your back to soothe you.
âMerlin, what was I thinking? I shouldnât have forced the truth out of you like that. Please...forgive me.â
You clutched at his robes and moved your tear-filled eyes to his.
âI forgave you the moment it happened, Professor.â
A few silent moments passed between the two of you and he continued to hold your gaze. Severus was the first to move. Ever so slowly, he leaned down to capture your lips.Â
His mouth melded with yours perfectly, and he didnât stop until his lungs demanded it. Your eyes closed, your forehead coming to rest against his.
âProfessor I-â
He silenced you with another chaste kiss. âSeverusâŚCall me Severus, Y/N.âÂ
âPlease SeverusâŚmake love to me.â
His resolve broke the moment the plea fell from your lips. Severus gently laid you back and gently rid you of your tattered robes. His calloused hands slid over your smooth skin making your breath hitch. He peppered kisses down into the crook of your neck, his path moving to the space between your breasts.
âS-Severus...pleaseâŚneed youâŚâ
He nipped playfully at your jaw and sat up slightly to take his shirt off.
âPatience, Y/N⌠Iâll take care of you.âÂ
Once he was bare before you he made his way between your legs. His touch was tentative, his fingertips brushing your folds gingerly. He circled your clit making you arch off the bed.
âOh, Merlin!... Fuck!â
Severus chuckled and slid two of his fingers inside you curling them upwards.
âBloody hell, youâre soaked, Y/NâŚâ
He easily found the sensitive spot inside of you, the coil in your core winding tighter and tighter with each passing second.
âPlease! OhâŚshit⌠Se-Severus! Mâgonna cum⌠please⌠please make me cum!â
His cock twitched at your words, precum leaking from the tip.
âLet go, Y/N...cum for meâŚâ
With a cry of his name, you fell over the edge. Your chest heaved as you pulled him up for a heated kiss.Â
âNeed you, Sev. Need you inside me. PleaseâŚâ
As carefully as he could, Severus lined himself up and pushed into you.
âMerlin, youâre so tight!â
His thrusts were steady and his kisses were fervent as he made love to you.
âOh, fuck! Sev! Oh, youâre so good⌠so good, babyâŚâ
Both of you wanted it to last, but it was clear you both needed the release more.
âY/N, I wonât last much longer like this⌠you feel amazing...so amazing.â
You slid your fingers through his thick hair and pulled his mouth down to yours. âCum with me, SeverusâŚâÂ
A moment later, both of you soared into bliss together. His lips rested against your own and his body shook as he spilled into you, your walls clenching around his cock. Severus was spent as he settled behind you, his arm wrapped protectively around your waist.
âY/N, I need to know youâre okay with this...with usâŚâ
Threading your fingers with his, you planted a sweet kiss on the back of his hand.
âSeverus, our love may be forbidden, but Iâd choose you no matter what it cost me. Iâll take you as you are. Your highs, your lows, all of it. Iâll love you until my last breath.â
He turned you in his arms and cupped your cheek.
âI never thought Iâd ever love another. Not after Lily, but seeing you in the forest like that sparked something in me. Something I havenât felt for nearly fourteen years. Iâll spend forever protecting and loving you.Â
As your eyes grew heavy, you felt a new sense of worth. Coming to Hogwarts was something youâd only dreamed of growing up. The moment you found your acceptance letter, you knew your life would change. You never thought youâd find someone to love here, but for once you were happy, and thatâs all youâd ever wanted.

hi meruz please tell me all your thoughts on outer wilds I am absolutely Living rn
HI oh my god i have so many thoughts. I think I'm gonna keep posting fanart so this definitely isnt gonna be my last word on the matter but wow what a game! um... idk if I wanna just type forever but I can give you at least a few key thoughts I had...
It took me a second to get into! I had been waiting for the switch port so I was really excited starting out but there were a couple early play sessions months apart where I was struggling with the controls and overwhelmed with the openness...I have a hard time with a lot of open worlds games because I just..dont have a lot of free time LOL. But I was complaining abt this to my brother and he was also having a hard time rly digging into the game so when he flew over to visit me a couple weeks ago I was like ok lets do this together (incentivizing gaming by making it social/co-operative). And we had a blast!!! it rly is the type of game you can play as co-op just by having someone else on the couch or on stream doin the thinking alongside you or bouncing theories off of. I do think he's a much better puzzle solver than me though lol (he works in research, so he's got that researcher brain), he made a lot of the leaps of logic way early while I was still turning things over in my head lmao.... AND he's better with the controls because he plays a lot of flight sims?! i think he got annoyed watching me bumble around anytime i had the controller. my sole contribution was doing the stealthy parts in the dlc because im stupid and consequentially lack fear.
I kind of grew up playing majoras mask and windwaker like that was the era of zelda games I was rly activated and engaged for as a kid and I didn't realize how much I was missing and craving that type of experience again LOL. I think especially with how I personally felt that tears of the kingdom was narratively and structurally a step down from botw... idk... i mean you can tell from interviews abt Outer Wilds that the devs clearly have a lot of affection for and thoughts abt the Zelda series as well and I think Outer Wilds was like such a good encapsulation of everything I loved abt those games and also everything I wish they would do lol!! IT ALSO kind of solved a lot of my pain points with open world games and did it in a way that was so elegant... like I think i initially recoiled at the openness but then when i started exploring and realized the scope and level of detail it rly clicked into place.. im just in awe.
umm i love every hearthian they were all so charming. it rly did feel like an older school of nintendo rpg where every npc has so much personality lol. i loved that every alien race in the game was some weird animal like the designs for all of them were rly good. i love that it was a "worn" universe and that everything looked old or used. I love astronomy and space and space concepts but I don't really like really lofty and impersonal/minimalist scifi so i feel like this was a great and accessible art direction for me personally. i especially thought the backpacking/outerdoorsy aesthetic was really inspired! I think "exploration" sometimes exists on a spectrum where one end of it can be really colonialist/militaristic LOL... UM which im not like. fully against i think it can be an interesting idea to dissect? but i feel like we see it a lot and it was neat to see this which felt like the complete opposite end of that spectrum. weirdly enough playing Outer Wilds made me immediately go and finally finish Firewatch right after but I felt a little spoiled I was like ehh..that was good but it wasn't Outer Wilds LOL.
i think a lot of the themes reminded me of lord of the rings/tolkien lore LOL IDK. I GUESS THIS IS LIKE BIG SPOILERS SO if you havent played dont read but like. the entire concept of being born at the end of a great and enormous world/age with a rich history and you only getting to see the end of it, living in the shadow of great civilization...keeping your humble home in your heart idk. but then also the new world being a song ... I'm a sucker. I love it.
yeah sorry only compliments. anyways yeah i want to do more fanart... soon!! hopefully!

Propaganda
Josephine Baker (The Siren of the Tropics, ZouZou)â Josephine Baker was an American born actress, singer, and utter icon of the period, creating the 1920s banana skirt look. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion film. She fought in the French resistance in WWII, given a Legion of Honour, as well as refusing to perform in segregated theatres in the US. She was bisexual, a fighter, and overall an absolutely incredible woman as well as being extremely attractive.
Joan Crawford (Dancing Lady, Mildred Pierce, The Women)â God, where do I start!!! Her face is so UNIQUE and compelling and stands out so much. I love her thick brows and high cheekbones. She has a school-marmy hardness too her that makes her a little scary and therefore sexy. Her low thick voice also does it for me. Despite being an unusual looking woman with an unusual face, she never loses her glamour. Just a gorgeous talented actress, AND she was some sort of gay!!!
This is round 5 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut. the famous banana skirt is mildly NSFW.]
Josephine Baker:
Black, American-born, French dancer and singer. Phenomenal sensation, took music-halls by storm. Famous in the silent film era.
Let's talk La Revue Negre, Shuffle Along. The iconique banana outfit? But also getting a Croix de Guerre and full military honors at burial in Paris due to working with the Resistance.
She exuded sex, was a beautiful dancer, vivacious, and her silliness and humor added to her attractiveness. She looked just as good in drag too.
So I know she was more famous for other stuff than movies and her movies werenât Hollywood but my first exposure to her was in her films so Iâve always thought of her as a film actress first and foremost. Also she was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture so I think that warrants an entry
Iconic! Just look up anything about her life. She was a fascinating woman.
Joan Crawford:
I just love women that are very mean.
she was a smoke show in every decade, from the 20s to the 60s.
The classic matronly beauty with amazing eyebrows
of course there's a space for MILF joan but i want to just take a second and say she was so cute in her early movies (like grand hotel and the women)! those parts often get forgotten but her stardom shines in them just as much as in her older #queen #icon roles
Misremembered for wire hanger hatred, this original screen queen mastered the art of the comeback and refused to let Hollywood toss her aside as she aged. The term âauteurâ is usually revered for directors or writer-directors, but most critics have one actor theyâll give that title to as well: Crawfordâanyone who knows classic movies already has a âCrawford pictureâ in their head. She knew how to style herself and promote herself. She made herself a star and kept herself fixated in the Hollywood firmament. Whatâs hotter than knowing just how hot you are?
(donât think about Mommie Dearest right now) Joan was known for being super nice to all the like crew of the movies she worked on and sheâd get everyone gifts. Joan would hold movie nights at her house and knit at the back of her home theater. Joan was sooo obsessed with other women including Greta Garbo, whos dressing room she would obsessively and purposefully walk by. She said that while working on Grand Hotel, Garbo grabbed her face and âif there ever was a time in my life where I wouldâve been a lesbian, that was it.â But like Joan also probably did sleep with women including Barbara Stanwyck. Joan was so obsessed with Bette Davis, screening multiple movies of hers in a day at her watch party, constantly trying to spend time with her or do a movie together, insisting on the dressing room next to hers at Warners and sending her daily gifts⌠etc. Once Bette said that sex was gods joke to humanity and Joan said âI think the joke is on her.â Joan fucked a lot. Joan got caught publicly fucking a man and sent a letter to the woman who saw them basically saying âI bet it excited youâ and the woman was like you know what. It did. Joan was best friends with a gay man. Joan was an actually genuinely good actress even though people mocked her a lot for being like cheap and stupid (partially because she never finished school because her family was broke). Joan was so insane and so cool thatâs all.

hello beanz, hope you're doing well! do you have any useless worldbuilding headcanons or jodt facts which are utterly useless or very mildly useful to the plot?
Hello lovelyđ I'm doing well, and I hope the same for you!
And gah! This is such a good ask! Definitely a thinker, too đ¤
The Useful Headcanons:
⢠The Wizarding World is called the Wixen World because fuck the patriarchy. (And yes, I realise both "wizard" and "witch" can be perceived as gender neutral, but typically, wizards are male, and witches are female (ughđ))
⢠There are more magical schools than just eLEvEn, because as a wise man once said:
Take it from Hermione and Draco in GS,ch4:
âThereâs around fifty in all of Europe,â Hermione began.
âAnother fifty in Asia,â Draco carried on.
âSeveral in the Americas.â
âA handful of smaller schools scattered across the Pacific Islands.â
âAnd near a hundred in Africa.â
⢠Generally, wix are not homophobic, transphobic, or racist. Their prejudice problems revolve around blood and magical creatures.
Historically speaking, the Victorian era really fucked up Muggle society. And, yes, there was homophobic/racist ideology pre-Victorian era (1600s - 1700s), but by then, the magic and muggle world was already at odds with each other (Statute of Secrecy was eatablished in 1692) -- why would purebloods concern themselves with such trivial Muggle bigotry?
⢠Which leads me to my next worldbuilding point; Paganism. Traditional witchcraft and its influences on both the Wixen and Muggle worlds. Pureblood families are known to celebrate the Wheel of the Year -- equinoxes and solstices etc... Paganism existed before the statute and still exists into the Muggle world of course, which is how Muggles have wicca and the craft. Why Wiccan Muggles gather at Stone Henge for the summer solstice and all sorts. It just makes sense đ¤â¨ď¸
⢠Wolfstar. That's it. That's the whole bullet point. Just. Wolfstar.
⢠In Pureblood society, there is an unspoken hierarchy. The Malfoys' circle consisted of the Goyles, the Crabbes, and the Notts (and other notable Death Eater names), as well as the Parkinsons, the Greengrasses, and many other blood purist sympathisers.
Draco grew up with Greg, Vince, Pansy, Daphne, and Theo. The coming war will surely test the strength of childhood bonds...
⢠The divide between Draco and his father means Draco is becoming his own person as opposed to following in his father's footsteps. Draco finds himself striving to be a little more like his mother, and a lot more like himself.
The fire of rebellion flourishes inside him, but how far can he go before the flames grow out of his control?
The Not So Useful & Sort of Silly Headcanons:
⢠Crabbe and Goyle are not as thick as some people (*cough* Harry *cough*) perceive. Vince is a Transfiguration whizz-kid & Greg enjoys art.
⢠Pansy Parkinson falls in love very easily, but also very quickly moves onto her next meal -- ah, her next fixation.
⢠Mad-Eye Moody enjoyed a very relaxed year of his retirement from 1994 to 1995, with absolutely no home intrusions or attacks from dark wix.
⢠Lucius Malfoy has an unhealthy obsession with white peacocks. Especially his prized darling, Bartholomew Armand Malfoy the Third.
⢠Dobby has a cupboard specifically for storing all of his socks at Hogwarts.
⢠Professor Burbage had a groovy flower-power phase in the 70s.
⢠Harry sometimes finds himself talking to Draco's embroidered portrait on the Black family tapestry at Grimmauld Place.
⢠Erik, Nikolaj, and Katrina embark on a journey across America after graduating from Durmstrang. In their travels, they may discover many things...
I'm sure there's more! But here's what I can think of off the top of my head! đĽ°đ

iâm in my famous!reader era soooo
imagine being like this rising pop star, being the new sex symbol in music, and being the absolute party girl. your publicist is absolutely fed up with you and your team is starting to think you have a drug problem after showing up to some of your studio sessions looking zoned out and sluggish.
youâre young, youâre stupid, and youâve definitely made some bad decisionsâ but youâre famous, a dream youâve had since you were nine. youâve wanted to sing your heart out ever since you. old speak and this was your chance.
were you blowing it slightly? yes! but you were living in the moment and your fans love how careless you are (even if their parents donât exactly enjoy the message youâre sending to their children).
youâre out for the night in some college bar, ignoring every call from your publicist, and dancing with some guy you barely just met when they caught your eye from across the room.
a blonde and brunette, staring at you intensely as you swayed your hips. you smirked softly, ignoring the guy calling out after you as you walked away. he was only good for some free blow and shots. you stopped in front of them and looked between them, taking in their looks and expressions.
âyou look like cute little mice,â you giggled, sniffling and rubbing your nose. the blonde blushed while the brunette playfully rolled his eyes.
âwe do not look like mice. weâre grown men.â that earned a chuckle from you, leaning down and looking at the drink in the blondes hand. âmay i?â you asked, taking a sip out of the straw while making eye contact with him. you couldâve sworn that he just had a heart attack with the way he was looking at you so intensely. you pulled away and looked over at patrick, then down at his cigarette that was hanging in his hand.
you leaned forward and he met you halfway, letting you take a drag from it before you blew the smoke into his face.
âwhere do i know you from?â patrick asked, both of them leaning forward. you were almost tempted to lean in all the way but were pulled out of your trance when you heard your song started to play, groaning softly and tilting your head forward.
your buzz was officially killed.
âyou donât like this song?â art asked, his voice being drowned out by the people who were singing along to it. you chuckled softly, pushing your head up and leaning in closer to them.
âi wrote it.â
you stood up, looking around the club for the girls you tagged along with but they were no where to be found. just some fucking groupies who wanted a chance to say they partied with you.
âwell, it was fun meeting you boys, but i should go before my publicist drags me by my hair.â
you begin to turn around but then feel a hand wrap around your wrist, turning your head back to see the brunette standing along with his best friend.
âcome back to campus with us,â he said, causing you to raise your eyebrows as you looked between them.
âcome back to a school iâve never been to with two guys iâve never met? no thanks.â you try to pull your hand away but he stops you, smirking playfully.
âiâm patrick zwieg, and this art donaldson, stanfords best tennis player,â he teased, chuckling as his friend slaps his shoulder. âwe wonât try anything, we just wanna continue talking.â
you look between them again, contemplating just kneeing him in the balls and making a run for it⌠but you were already in trouble anyway, your team couldnât get a hold of you, you were supposed to be in bed hours ago, and you needed to ride out your high somewhere.
âfine⌠but if you guys try anything, iâll personally castrate you.â
they smirked and led you out of the club, walking by your side as you made your way back to the dorms.

Len and Tommy's life told through nine photos ~
A fanart based on the Inside no 9 episode 'Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room' because I loved it so much!
(09/2024)
See below for close ups and unnecessarily detailed explanations of each individual artwork lol
First wanna say that I spent wayy too long on these (like 25+ hours), especially trying to make them look like actual old photos lol... also trying to get their likeness right for the various ages was really bloody hard lol, but hopefully each photo has the essence of each character even if it might not look 100% right pfft...
Second thing is that the dates & locations are very much my own subjective thoughts on their life and not particularly rooted in the canon of the show lol
Also I did go really heavy with the colour symbolism lol...
Ravenhill School, 1965.
The year they met, both are around the age of 10 (give or take). Len is 3 from the left in the top row, Tommy 2 in from the left on the bottom row (also I tried to include references to the other 2 League Of Gentlemen guys... Though I think the only vaguely recognisable one is Jeremy pfft)
Also shout out to @lapis-lazuliie for the idea that they met at school!
(side note, this is the least detailed of all the paintings not just because I was too lazy to render all those children's faces pfft but ALSO because of the significance of them being less recognisable or prominent in each other's lives in this point...)
I was planning on making another childhood/early teen photo but couldn't really think of any good subject matter that could also fit thematically with the episode (also the fact both are coming from poor families who would have had limited access to cameras in this era means we can just pretend that there are just no photos that really exist of them at these ages pfft...)
Photo booth in Leeds, 1974.
Both in their late teens, they'd (well, mainly Tommy) gone to a photo booth in Leeds with the intention of getting some professional looking photos only for Len to immediately make Tommy laugh once they got in there lol
The middle photo is covered in lines as Tommy had planned on throwing it away, only to find he couldn't bring himself to do it in the end... Is it platonic? Romantic? Both? Who knows, you decide lol! I mainly wanted it to be a candid moment between two people that love each other lol
(final one is them play fighting because that's kinda just what 19 year olds are like pfft... also I think photo booths technically gave you 4 photos? so let's pretend there was another photo that they did throw away for whatever reason lol...)
Rehearsals, 1979.
Deep in the midst of practising their routine for some of their first performances!
I'll admit this photo was mainly me wanting to include something more episode specific lol and also to get in some much needed heavy handed symbolism (the crease in the photo separating them, the bottle in front of Len's face, etc)
Polaroids taken at Tommy's flat, 1985.
In-between shows the two often spent a lot of time at Tommy's place (featuring that god awful sofa the previous home owner had left). I did originally plan to have them in the sofa shot together, but was finding it hard to figure out who would have been taking that kind of photo so figured it made more sense to make it shots they took of each other.
Also marks the beginnings of Tommy's weariness (& Len's over drinking...)
Outside the Glasgow Pavilion, 1988.
The morning of that fateful performance...
Ok not much else I wanna say about this other than the reference I used for the pose had Reece sorta awkwardly clasping his hands in front of him which I really liked but unfortunately in my art it just looked like he was trying to cover his crotch so I had to change it pfft...
Tommy standing at Len's grave, 2024.
The sixth anniversary of Len's death, and the sixth time Tommy has travelled across from France to lay flowers at his grave. Photo taken by Leanne from the inside of a taxi (I'd like to have had more references to her in these photos but was unsure of dates/ages where it would have fitted...)
She couldn't get her phone to not focus on the raindrops on the window as she tried to take a picture of Tommy at her father's grave but then realised that she actually liked the pathetic fallacy and had it made into a print anyway lol (look I'll be the first to admit that this is the least 'realistic' in terms of a photo that people would take, but I couldn't resist the symbolism of it lol...)
There were a lot more ideas for photos I wanted to do but for obvious reasons had to keep it to just 9 lol
Also will be posting these on my ao3 with snippets of stories to go with each photo so keep an eye out for when I share that link!
