• if you mean degendering, say that! You didnt say that though.. your words have meanings. you cannot say a different sentence then be upset when people read it as the words mean.
• Again, say that. Because I see it in MANY contexts.. People who think you shouldn't imposed a girl v boy mentality to the trans community, people who enforce a gender binary in trans spaces, shit! not even about trans shit! People say this shit when lesboys exist!! It is a commonly said phrase.. Again, if you mean something, say something. Because you are criticizing generalized things that can so easily be miscontrued to be used to be a dick to people.
• It is slang. People use slang how they use slang. Using slang is not inherently transmisogynistic and its a weird hill to die on. The important thing it acknowledging some people may not be comfortable with it and asking. And if someone messes up, telling them. It is such a non issue. Like putting it on this board is the equivalent of those storyline plots that exist only cuz people don't communicate. People are capable of communicating their needs and asking boundaries.
Now, disrespecting this boundary could go on there no problem!! It happens a lot.. But someone who grew up in a region where that simply is the slang and uses it like that is not the same as someone who goes 'well thats a dumb boundary i use it like XYZ!!!"
Two different scenarios.
• How is TME/TMA misused? I am so glad you asked:
It should be a self descriptor, for starters, because you don't know other people. No, just because that person is a transmasc bigender person you don't know if they've been affected by transmisogyny or not.
The term has basically been co opted for online discourse that boils down to "afab (aka FEMALE) trans=transmasc/trans man and they are tme and amab trans people are all transfem/trans women and are all male and amab and are tma".. which is dumb. People have perverted these terms to mean whatever the fuck they want instead of using it to actually start a conversation about transmisogyny.
You cannot tell TME/TMA by agab, gender identity, expression, (asumed) sex, pronouns, etc.. However certain 4chan-lite people have completely ruined the terms usefulness and it is.. upsetting
A lot of people DO define it by AGAB! And it is a real issue! And it harms any actual discussion because it makes people associate these terms with gender/sex binaries instead of them being useful.
Now, i AM pro use of these terms when used correctly.. but at the end of the day, they really aren't.. especially since how many people just see words used one way and assume thats Just How They Should Be Used. There needs to be a real discussion of the misuse of this term, and people criticizing how its used in the wider community should be allowed to..
... But, yea, people equating them to meaning agab or sex or identity or whatever the fuck IS misusing and it happens a lot. I do not think its impossible to reform these words to what they naturally should mean, but I don't blame people for how they're used

Jegulus Celebrity (?) AU where the Marauders are a band, Jamed is a singer-songwriter, and Regulus has a podcast
Regulus is 23 and has an anonymous podcast called the Black Lake. Mostly, he goes on tangents about songs, current events, and poetry, and people listen to a faceless man because it's just so damn interesting
And if James is a little obsessed with it? If he listens to each episode, no matter what it's about, as soon as it's released because the host of the Black Lake has a dangerously addictive voice and he can't sleep without hearing it? If there's something infinitely captivating about hearing him analyze James' songs and their lyrics and what he thinks they mean and just getting it?
Regulus doesn't do interviews despite popular request because he just doesn't want to. James says fuck it and sends an email asking for one anyway. Except there's a catch: He'll be interviewed and answer anything, as long as Regulus shows at least half of his face
And, look, Regulus isn't stupid. He keeps tabs on the Marauders because of his brother, though they haven't spoken since Sirius ran away from home and Regulus became a ghost. Knows James is Sirius' best friend. But he's also hot. An excellent songwriter. A great singer. All things Regulus admirers
So they do an interview and people go fucking crazy because it's famous, elusive James Potter and effortlessly sly and charming Host of the Black Lake and -
are they flirting?
Apparently the bottom half of Regulus' face is all James needed to say
"You look like someone I know."
"Calling my face boring, Potter?"
"On the contrary, I'm calling your face beautiful. And I'd like for it to be a familiar as well."
The interview goes viral. Regulus asks the best, most thought-provoking questions and their chemistry is off the fucking charts
Except a couple months pass and then James Potter releases a single where one of the verses is "And you scoff and twist your lips / In your mind love is just a myth / The words 'don't expect forever / Because this is only for the summer'"
And people lost it once more. They ask Regulus to review the song, as he has done for so much of the Marauders' music in the past. And he does. Says the lyrics describe the situation of two crazy kids thinking they can make it work without thinking of the consequences of their actions
Then journalist Rita Skeeter writes an artical exposing the host of the Black Lake to be famous exiled heir Regulus Black, brother to Sirius Black, ex boyfriend to Sirius' best friend James Potter. Calls James many not nice things
And Regulus responds, quite reasonably he feels, with a podcast episode verbally dragging the shit out of her. Calls her a conniving, thoughtless bitch who relies on sensationalism to keep herself popular because she has no real personality to stand on. Demands she keeps James Potter out of her articles because his name alone is much prettier than anything she could ever write, and she'll embarrass herself trying
And if James finds this undeniably hot? If he calls Regulus later saying thank you? Well, then that's for just them to know
But there is song that releases two months after, the closing lyric being
"My eternal city of lost love returned / A battle of wrongdoing and hearts hard-earned / And you ask 'if we've already been through the harsh and bitter / then why not make this forever?'"

Warning: this gets grim
I'm up at night thinking about an episode of Supernatural and how it demonstrates some really heinous public attitudes toward fat people.
Mild spoilers for Supernatural season 6 I guess:
Dean Winchester has to take on the job of Death for a day, meaning he has to go to those who are supposedly destined to die, witness their final moments, and give them the touch of death, thus claiming their lives and sending them to the afterlife. He soon struggles to live up to his responsibilities as he's required to end the lives of a sick child and a young nurse. His first two victims, however, don't bother his conscience at all. The first is an armed robber who threatens to shoot a little boy and gets killed by the boy's father. The second is a fat man who has a heart attack.
When I say fat, what I really mean is fat-coded; the man is simply not stick thin in the way that nearly every character on the show is, so he counts as fat and his storyline (minor though it is) is tied to his size. He is in his 50s, maybe early 60s. We first see him wolfing down a cheeseburger, and Dean says "this looks like a heart attack situation", before the man indeed clutches his chest and dies. When he asks why he had to die, Dean's reply is: "you think maybe it was the extra cheese?"
His death is not portrayed as tragic in any way. He himself is only mildly distressed. We don't get to see anyone grieving for him. His death is there to be one of the Easy ones, an unsurprising, almost comical and even deserved(?) death to make Dean think it's not that bad of a gig, ending people's lives. And we, the viewers, are supposed to agree. We're not invited to feel sad for this man in the slightest, even in retrospect. Everyone who created this scene and decided to keep it in the show, believed this to be a normal way to think of a fat person suddenly dying. This came out in 2010.
It just encapsulates so much stuff - really fucking dark stuff, I might add - about how fat lives have been viewed through the years. That scene (and scenes like it) says:
- when fat people die, it's because they brought it on themselves. They are ticking timebombs and their death is expected.
- when fat people die young, no they don't, because being fat means living on borrowed time anyway, so a fat person dying way earlier than the average life expectancy is not tragic the way it is if a thin person does.
- when fat people die, it's definitely because they are fat (and they are fat because they make bad choices).
- when fat people eat what's considered unhealthy food, it's depressing and stupid and they're out of control. Dean Winchester is canonically a big fan of fast food and eats burgers all the time on the show. Because he is thin and fit, this is portrayed as fun, relatable and manly.
- when fat people die, it's not sad.
And like, I wish this was exclusive to fiction, but there are real people who act like this when real fat people die. Like they know why, even if they have no clue, like it shouldn't be shocking, like it's self-inflicted and therefore deserved, and like it probably wasn't much of a life anyway so it's just not that tragic, really.
This stuff is, just for me personally, one of the roughest sides of anti-fatness. When people deny us dignity in death. Partly because it's so ghoulish, and partly because it's so ubiquitous it appears in media like this, without controversy. I'd like to believe there would be stronger reactions had this plotline come out today in 2025, but I am not confident.

I'm actually not going to let this go until Gerry is at least as widely ridiculed as Human Pet Guy. That guy still didn't do anything half as disturbed as this fucking loser, let me pull up my favorites again:
Gerry messaging me from an alt pretending not to be an alt
Gerry claiming again that it's antisemitic of me to say the IDF are bad guys who do not represent the entire Jewish population. This is not, in fact, the same as saying they're "not jews anymore." Also bragging about supposedly baiting and sealioning me into saying whatever they believe I said wrong. I guess the stupid ass hell thing????
Calling me a "blorbo" like I'm a fictional character rather than a human. Also, I went and got the original hell comment to double check it:
.....This doesn't even say the IDF should go to hell. It says I hope people "excusing" the IDF's actions should go to hell, I just typoe'd it as "excising." I guess Gerry successfully gaslit me, since I fully believed I had said specifically "the IDF go to hell." Thanks!
Gerry accusing me of "lumping them in as pro genocide" in response to a comment in which I specifically state I do not see them that way. How else am I supposed to read them NOW, though? Because I defined that as "someone who thinks kids deserve bombs dropped on them," and Gerry's response is "how dare you say that about me......???????" What?? Not once do they ever simply say "no one deserves their town to be bombed" or anything like that. They absolutely refuse, because they do in fact believe that it's okay to bomb a whole community if some of that community might hypothetically be "hamas." They do in fact think it's acceptable that people who never hurt anyone else should die that way for some sort of greater good, or that only hamas can be blamed for those deaths by "forcing the hand" of the ones with those bombs.
Gerry admitting the IDF bombs, loots and tortures, even though most comments they call antisemitic are calling out just that very behavior. Gerry to my knowledge has never willingly blamed anything negative on the IDF since this comment and continues to attack people who do.

Gerry admitting the honest core of their beliefs and behavior. This isn't really about me, though. I mean, part of it is, I can definitely be vindictive. But I mostly ignored this asshole for the past year until the doxx comment, and now I'm getting more messages than ever from people who feel actually hurt and terrorized by this motherfucker. I've suffered ZERO fallout from their attacks, I am evidently too big I guess, but there are people who change their username to hide from this piece of shit, even fucking minors who dared to say "free palestine" once. Then there's @stoptheantisemitism, who is NOT gerry, but is impersonated by gerry's alt account @spottheantisemitism and other alt accounts, @stop-the-antisemitism and of course @stop--the--antisemitism in this very thread. Creating so many variants is a deliberate attempt to make it as hard as possible for casual rebloggers to remember which one is the real person. I mean, two alts only add dashes to the same username, and the other only moves one letter "p." I have no idea how tumblr staff can rationalize that as okay. But, again, if there's a guy who can't show his face without human pet jokes because he was just generally creepy, or everyone remembers sixpenceee's family having slaves, why can a user devote this much of their miserable life to "baiting and sealioning" people from multiple accounts and still have a usable blog left? ONE LAST THING!!!!!!!

The Real Housewives of the Imperium
A/N: This is just some bullshit my brain vomited while I was procrastinating other things. Enjoyyy
Lore Drop™️ before we begin: In my personal headcanon of whatever the fuck this is, the wives of the Primarchs definitely act as a political arm of their respective legion/Primarch. They are the ones that involve themselves with the administration and nobility and royalty of the Imperium, and this is a role the Primarchs are happy enough to dump on them while they’re off fighting wars. It also means that the wives run into each other a lot.
Who Hates Each other?
-I would say no one really hates each other, but that’s a lie. The Red Lady and the Wolf Mother cannot under any circumstances be in the same room together, they will absolutely kill each other it’s not pretty.
-The Raven Mother, while not generally having any disagreements with anyone, is just around so rarely it’s hard to say she has any really good friends amongst the wives.
Who are friends?
-First, The Khatun has some freaky superpower that lets her get along with literally everyone and everyone loves her. She is literally everyone’s best friend and she loves it.
-Lady Lupercal, The Mother of the Salamanders, and The Khatun have seen everything. These were the first three spouses and the only Primarch spouses for a long time. Not only were they the first, but they were also the only three to have been with their husbands prior to the Emperor’s appearance. These three wrote the book and have a deep friendship because of their circumstances.
-The Lady of the Hydra, the Dark Lady, Lady Guilliman, Lady Lupercal, and the Lady of the Emperor’s Children are all somehow extremely good friends and it’s so bad for everyone’s health because these women SCHEME. If you fuck with them or their husbands they will have the entire Imperium legitimately thinking you sacrifice babies to pagan gods in your free time by the next cycle do not mess with them. They also will pull up to the function with the best gossip.
-A surprising friendship here - the Mother of the Salamanders and Lady Curze. Everyone was expecting the Red Lady and Wolf Mother round two with these two, but noooo, they get along like a house on fire and that’s what they’ll do to yours if you fuck with them. Whereas our Quintet of trouble up there will spin you around with their words, these two are more of the “corner you in a dark alley with a knife and threaten you within an inch of your life” type.
-The Lady of the Death Guard, Lady Aurelian, the Khatun, and Lady Kurze also float around each other because they are four of the genuinely nicest people you’ll ever meet and they subconsciously bond over it.
-The Wolf Mother and the Dark Lady are drinking buddies
How do they complain about their husbands/step-children to each other?
-Now when it comes to complaining? The Lady of Iron is there, first in line to start complaining about her husband and you know who’s right behind her? The Lady of the Iron Hands because I know in my heart of hearts she’s beefing with her step-children. Between these two there are literal hours of content.
-Even though those two are in a league of their own, most gatherings between these women usually devolve into complaints about their husbands.
-Fun fact: It’s actually during one of these complaint sessions that Lady Guilliman got the idea to ban paperwork from the bedroom.
-Although, some of these women are putting back breaking work into these men, so honestly, they deserve to complain a little
Who is talking up their husbands/step-sons?
-You know who’s not complaining? Lady Aurelian and the Lady of the Death Guard on god they love their husbands more than anything and no one knows why because they are so hot. Deadass, they pulled up to the function looking like goddesses with baked goods and everyone else was like “…sorry, the Imperium’s Next Top Model is like two doors down”, but no they were in fact in the right place and everyone is still surprised.
-Also, be careful when it comes to mentioning the step-children because there are some *cough* The Mother of the Salamanders *cough* who keep a whole book of all their kids and their accomplishments on them at all times and they will yap on about them for HOURS. The Mother of the Salamanders is like one of those dads that have pictures of their kids accordion style in their wallet and they open it up and a whole string of pictures falls out but she has too many kids so she needs a book.
-It’s also a perilous topic of conversation around The Lady of Angels and The Lady of the Emperor’s Children because they will pull out their step kid’s artwork and they will make you look at it and compliment it. For. Hours.
-It’s not unheard of for particularly these three to be at events with the step-children and not shut the fuck up about them.

-Though they aren’t the only three culprits of this, most of them have done this, the rest of them, though, usually shut up after about an hour or two and only have a few pictures on them of their step kids.
-cuts over to the Lady of the Iron Hands and her step-children who are trying to growl at each other around a very tired looking Ferrus Manus who is sat between them.
-though, most of these women love to brag about their step-children and how great at everything they are.
-The Lady of Iron is also another big culprit, she loves showing off her step-kids. She has also threatened Perterabo within an inch of his life when he’s ragged on his kids.
-The mental health of the Iron Warriors rose significantly once the Lady of Iron was apart of the picture.
-Almost as much as they like bragging about their husbands.
-As much as they complain, this is a group of the most fiercely loyal group of women you’ll ever get in a room together.
-They hear a whisper of a complaint about their husband? It’s over for you, you’ll be dead or wishing you were by dinner. They hear you praise their husband? You’re not leaving until they’ve told you every amazing thing their husbands have ever done in their lives.
The Ultimate Uniting Factor:
-There is one person, one man, in the entirety of the known and unknown galaxy who has the ability to bring these women, even the Red Lady and the Wolf Mother, together like nobody else: Big E
-If you mumble under your breath anything that could possibly be construed as a complaint against the Emperor of Mankind then you may as well have shined the Batsignal in the air because these women are coming out of the woodwork.
-Now they are all here and they have all involved you in a conversation that couldn’t be construed as anything but absolute treason if it were to come out of anyone else’s mouth
-If you were to put these women in a room together and point a camera at them and let them talk for a few hours, every single time it would devolve into irate ranting about Big E. You would never catch a kind word about Big E falling from their lips.
-The Emperor won’t step foot in the same zip code as these women because he understands that they are down every second of every day to literally evict him from life.
-The Emperor literally started a crusade as an excuse to leave Terra because he got word that the Khatun was on her way.
-Say what you will about the Emperor of Mankind, he’s smart enough to know that these women will end him where he stands if they ever get their hands on him.

Takemiya Keiko interview about Kazeki OVA (1987)
Here's another short interview from platypus's stack of old magazines with cool interviews: Takemiya Keiko talks about Kaze to Ki no Uta Sanctus: Sei Naru Kana in the 1987 December issue of Puff.

“It will not ruin your image of the work, so please watch it!”
Let us first hear your thoughts on finishing this project.
Mr. Yoshikazu was sitting at the director’s chair. That alone assured me that everything would go smoothly, and I left everything to him. He read the manga thoroughly and gave the work his own interpretation. I had nothing to worry about. I didn’t have to ask him not to do a certain part in a certain way, or to avoid including too many “risqué” scenes. I can feel that he gave the work the treatment it deserves. Even the animation style was not too flashy and anime-like. The movements were more orthodox. Everything worked out perfectly, so I have nothing to say.
The background art was amazing. Did you ask them to draw them that way?
Both Mr. Yoshikazu and I thought that she’d be a good fit, and suggested having the same person who was the art director for “Natsu e no Tobira”, but we couldn’t get a hold of her. We found out the reason later: The producer thought she was too slow, and we should give up on working with her (laughs). But when we said that she was the only person who could draw the backgrounds, she was hired to work in the project. However, she was too late to turn in the drafts. We really were in a tight spot. She might have been slow, but she really is an artist. When she can’t draw something, she just can’t. She gave it her all… Even though it was something that’d only be on screen for two seconds… If we couldn’t ask them to do something, I said I should go ahead and do it myself.
So, I gather that you drew some key animation yourself. Are manga and anime too different to draw for?
Both mediums are used basically to capture “movement,” so I think they are the same. You go with the flow, trying to capture “movement”… You think about how original you can express it. That’s a really fun undertaking. For example, even if it’s just a scene of a character turning to look back, if you strive to give it a little touch, you can really bring out an erotic feeling. That’s the stuff I’m talking about. If I had a lot of money, I would dabble more in in-between animation. I now understand why Otomo Katsuhiro-san was so obsessed with it (laughs).
I’ve seen the OVA. It felt like reading one of your works.
Do you think so? I didn’t ask him to do it, but to keep close to the atmosphere of the original work, Mr. Yoshikazu outlined the key points. He put the same things as my drawings in those scenes. But if you looked closely, you could tell that they were different. When I saw the whole thing, I thought “wow, it’s the same!” However, upon closer inspection, I found out that such scenes did not exist in the original. I even thought maybe something was wrong with me. The same also goes for the lines. “Did he ever say that? He might have said that…” But when I re-read, I see that no such line was uttered. I had so many moments like that.
What was the fans’ reaction to this OVA adaptation?
When I said it was happening, I received an equal amount of positive and negative reactions. Well, that’s only to be expected. So, like I thought, only when I said that Mr. Yoshikazu was the one directing it, I saw the real opposition. The animation director was decided on, but the VAs weren’t cast yet. When news of the production got out, I received letters saying “it’s too late, I give up!” (laughs) They said stuff like, “Here we are, so against this idea, but you still say that you’ll do it! I don’t care anymore!” I can say that there are people who definitely won’t watch it. It makes me happy to see the work being loved that much, but when people are that obsessed with it… It’s kind of scary. I sometimes go as far not seeing it as something I myself created. But well, there are still a lot of people who say “I might cry and whine, but I’ll still watch it.”
Can we have Ms.Takemiya, the creator herself, do some advertisement for the OVA?
The OVA didn’t embarrass me, so I’ll keep promoting it. I don’t think it’ll ruin your image of the work. But I know that there are people who are too nitpicky and say stuff like the lines of a character’s profile is kind of off and they hate it, or that their legs are too thin or that their feet look weird (laughs). In that sense, we paid extra attention to the movement itself and tried to animate the characters in a natural manner. “The Poem of the Wind and the Trees” makes you think of subtle movements, right? We can’t have them move too briskly, and even the fight scene is nothing too serious. Because Mr. Yoshikazu didn’t want to create too vivid of a scene. Rather, he didn’t want it to stink of “masculinity” that much. And people who’ve only seen the character designs might think that they look nothing like the manga, but when they are in motion, they do look like their manga counterparts. As for the voice of the characters, I don’t know the actress of Gilbert, but we have Nobita-kun for Serge (laughs)! People who are into anime will recognize her voice, so they might be a little bit of put off by that, but she doesn’t sound like Nobita-kun here. Not at all! The more you listen to her acting, the more you enjoy it! There are parts that reflect Serge’s character, so I’m really content with the result.
Can we consider this as “episode 1” of a series? Do you have plans for a continuation?
If this OVA sells, it might happen. If this one gets a positive reaction, I think we can make another one. The producer said that’s what he thought would happen. If you ask Mr. Yoshikazu, he says it’ll be at least 6 episodes long, but I doubt that. I can’t bring myself to believe that we can make that many episodes. Anyway, to think that we won’t be working with the staff who brought it to life with such resemblance feels so sad. But I also think that if we ask them to do it again, they’ll simply run away (laughs). We’ve already done Yoshikazu-san’s favorite part right off the bat, so what remains is the hard part. He says he can’t decipher a character like Augu (laughs). Maybe another director might do better.
And what about the future of the story in manga?
There’s the stuff about marriage and children problems, how to reach enlightenment, and everything in-between until Serge’s death. But even if I drew that, that would have no meaning for people who are only here for what Gilbert and Serge had (laughs). I don’t have any plans to draw any continuation for the moment, but one day, if I ever get the chance… If the are conditions right, I think I’d like to draw it.

Realizing I also want to keep track of the songs Apollo mentions, so I'm gonna go back real quick and mention "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke, released in 1957, which he mentioned in chapter 2, and "Rise to the Sun" by Alabama Shakes, released in 2012, which he mentions in the opening of chapter 10. Listened to them both, and honestly, they're both great songs! And Rise to the Sun actually fits Apollo really well, I was genuinely surprised.
Going back also makes me realize that Apollo was going to sing an honest to god love song to stop Cade and Mikey. That image will stay with me for years, I think.
Rhea is described as dressing like a "Libyan queen of old" which is interesting, bc I couldn't find any reference to Rhea being an important figure during the period where Ancient Greece had footholds in the region. What's interesting though, is that Apollo definitely was. One of the two cities Greeks established in Libya was Cyrene, and some myths even call the native Libyans the founders of both Delos and Delphi. So like, I have no idea where Rick got the idea of Rhea being connected to Libya, but it helped me learn new things, so that's cool!
Another anecdote: When Apollo drives the sun chariot as a bus, Hermes always sits in the back, because that's where troublemakers sit.
The way Apollo describes his physical state, I'm convinced he's just constantly in excruciating pain. Like, all he does is get off the cot in the Apollo cabin, and he says that his "eyes felt as if they were being microwaved in their sockets." Bestie, what? Are you dying, wtf lmao?
Anecdote: Apollo once attempted target practice in Zeus' throne room. That feels like it might have been a more pointed thing.
Apollo sees Nero in his dreams for the first time in chapter 10, but he doesn't recognize him yet. He spends the rest of the chapter simply referring to him as "The man in the purple suit", "The ugly mauve-suited man", and simply "the ugly man" King behavior, honestly.
I know I made a post about it a while ago, but I still can't get over Apollo's outrageous claim of 33 mortal girlfriends and 11 mortal boyfriends. He has past that in Ancient Greek lovers alone lmao.
Rick does a really good job of writing these long flowing internal monologues for Apollo, only to cut them off with a short sentence that both allows for an easy transition out of Apollo's head and back to the action of the scene, but also simulates Apollo getting distracted in his own ramblings and then abruptly coming back to reality. Like, he goes on for three paragraphs about Nico and will, and then his past loves, and then his embarrassment over sharing his love for Hyacinthus and Daphne, only to end it all off with the short line "I am so confused." and then we're right back into the scene. It's a really great comedic bit, and it does wonders for Lester's characterization. (Also my god does Lester read so much like he has ADHD. Almost more than Percy to me, but then I think Lester's flavor of ADHD is much more similar to my own than Percy's is)
Anecdote: Apollo cosplayed Rocky at midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Queen.
Apollo mentions that he filmed the orientation film on "a tight budget in the 1950's" which like, why? Maybe it's mentioned in the supplemental books somewhere, but why would a god ever be put on a budget for something lmao?
"Had I been a god, I would have turned her into a blue-belly lizard and released her into the wilderness never to be seen again. The thought soothed me." One, Apollo she is twelve dear god. Two, I love this as a character moment for Apollo (Stay with me here). Apollo comes from a culture that is so focused on strength and power and violence. The moment he loses control of a situation, he grasps for any way to get power back into his hands. And in these moments, his way of giving himself power is by reassuring himself that he could totally murder everyone here if he wanted to. Killing people is a way to assert control, it's a way that Zeus and the other gods assert control all the time. And there's an implication with Apollo using these lines too. By asserting that he can kill people, it's also an assertion that the people he is threatening cannot kill him. Idk it's just a very interesting way of coping.
Real quick fun fact! Lester describes the Oracle of Delphi in Greece as a "cavern filled with volcanic fumes" but that's not actually 100% correct. The oracle of Delphi in Ancient Greece was actually in the Temple of Apollo, with descriptions from ancient scholars putting her either in the cella or in an adyton that was below the main temple. There was a opening in the ground in this chamber, but it certainly wasn't a cave. Furthermore, the whole idea of Apollo fighting Python in a cave? From what I can tell, this is also not based in myth! Most descriptions of the fight between Apollo and Python that I can find in myth describe Python being coiled around the mountains of the Parnassus range, which is a terrifying image honestly. Just find it interesting that none of the cave stuff is actually a part of the Delphic Oracle. I mean, from what I can tell, the nearest mythologically important cave is the Corycian cave, which has nothing to do with the oracle and is also like a 45 minute drive away from Delphi.
I usually try to read three chapters before rb'ing, but I had so many notes on these two that I'm gonna cut it off here. Also, this has kind of just become pointing out shit I find interesting instead of focusing specifically on Lester-isms, but I'm def still gonna point those out, so the tag will stay. I just have so much to say about my little blorbo, sorry guys.
I think I'm gonna make a reblog chian of all the little phrases and Apollo uses throughout ToA, now that I'm rereading it. Bc like, he has such a unique way of speaking, and I really wanna dig into it, you know? Ok let's start.
He says "heavens help me" instead of "heaven help me" using the plural the same way demigods do with "oh my gods". I'm guessing this is an acknowledgment of other pantheons? Or I'm looking too far into it, I've just never heard this phrase with a plural "heavens" before.
He calls Cade and Mikey "Ruffians" . And he makes fun of the arrow for being Shakespearean.
He also refers to people as "Mortals" a lot here, which I remembered him doing, but now I want to keep track and see if he keeps that up throughout all the books, or if it peters out near the end.
"I thought how amusing it would be if I could make the snake tattoos around his neck come alive and strangle him to death" I honestly love how violent Apollo's thoughts can be sometimes. Like, you can tell he's someone who has done shit like this before.
I also want to keep track of all the little anecdotes Apollo brings up, so we'll start with the guitar contest against Chuck Berry in 1957, which apparently ended with him getting repeatedly stomped on.
"But something told me this was not she" II love how it's the little things that really get across how old Apollo is. Rick could've easily just said "It wasn't her" or something, but instead he had Apollo phrase this in a way that is far more formal, and more reminiscent of the grammatical patterns of old english. Idk it's just really cool.
(Side note that's not connected to Apollo: Meg's glasses are black? I feel like I've been living a lie, I've been coloring them red for years lol)
God his metaphors are just so striking. Like, I can imagine the phrase "Whatever was left of my pride turned into ice water and trickled into my socks" but I don't want to, because that's such a visceral feeling. I like that Apollo inadvertently proving how poetic he is by making the reader as uncomfortable as possible.
I think I'm gonna start crying out "Horrors!" when I'm upset to. I think I deserve that level of drama.
ahh the classic "My blessings upon you!" Again, I love how every little line characterizes him. Either it's overly formal, like before, or subtly arrogant, like here, or both. It's so fun.
I need to write him saying "Sacred Sibyl!" more. Because that is such a fun little term. Rolls right off the tongue, honestly.
I think I'm gonna leave it there for now, but trust that I will definitely be adding more to this later. Bc Lester-speak is so fun to really look into.

First post on here and it's a rant!! If you want more cool takes you should totally follow me as I'll be posting here more often and have totally cool art to share‼️‼️
I'm not completely sure how to tag this? I'm talking about the ships in a positive light so I think it's okay, and besides, I want lots of peeps to see it, I'm aware I probably won't change many people's minds at all, but it's okay lol, I just want Anti's to see they genuinely have a nothing burger and need to leave people alone.
This is a mostly TikTok only problem regarding Beast x Ancient's (thank god) but I've seen my fair share elsewhere like on here. So lemme counter every argument I've seen so far cause you got a lot of time on your hands to be telling people to off themselves over Cookie ships 😭 put that hate into people who actually deserve it.
BILLFORD COMPARISON
Regarding ShadowVanilla specifically, people have compared the ship a lot from both sides, but what really got me is what I've seen here:
"Shadow Milk Cookie is way worse than Bill! He drove Pure Vanilla to insanity! He tortured him!"- This is in regards to how people bring up the fact Anti's are fine with one thing but not the other when it's basically the same thing they're against. Psychological, physical, mental, and emotional torture. I'll be honest I haven't watched Gravity Falls whatsoever, but my friend has, and from what she says, yeah Bill is the definition of a cruel and unusual punishment. He's done some crazy things, absolutely heinous, might even be a little worse than Shadow Milk or on the same level, either way though-
You can't like one thing and then not the other, it's different flavors of the same thing, it's hypocritical. Either you hate them both or you hate neither.
"Those are 2 different fandoms!"- Doesn't matter, it's the same thing, just different media, it's not different whatsoever aside from the universe, there's much torture involved on both ends.
ABUSER X VICTIM
This one I've seen A LOT and I'm just ??
"If you ship Beast x Ancient's you support Abuser x victim btw"- That's a STRETCH. You are reaching FAR. Nobody is romanticizing the abuse, nobody is normalizing it, it's stuff that happened in canon and we acknowledge it but nobody is doing any of that other stuff. I'm not condoning anyone in real life to do that shit lol. It's called exploring, they have an interesting dynamic, romantic or platonic, two sides of the same coin. You can say the same thing about horror movies, they put a lot of disturbing stuff in there. Do the movie producers CONDONE any of that stuff? Obviously not. Goes for Devsisters too, they don't condone body mutilation yet they still made Burning Spice rip off Cheese's wings.
But even so, for the people who DO like it for the angst, I won't say fiction doesn't affect reality because it does in many cases, but this isn't one of them. Not every relationship is going to be peachy and perfect, just like in real life. I can give an example on this one too actually.
GoldenLily, they aren't condoning what Lily (technically) did to Golden Cheese's kingdom, but they like it for all the potential, complicated feelings and emotions that come along with it.
Also, that's basically the same thing with Beasts x Ancients, just turn it around to enemies to lovers.
"This isn't Villain x hero, this is abuser x victim"- Are you saying MOST of media is abuser x victim then? This is in fact a typical hero x Villain trope, it's nothing new. Respectfully, you guys freak out when a Villain does villain stuff, I'd be surprised if there was a villain who DIDN'T cause any trauma for the opposing party. But according to this logic, media is just dead, no more fanfiction, no more what ifs, no more content since it's all apparently problematic and not canon. Even if somebody switches stuff up in an AU, and makes things completely fluffy, that's apparently still not enough.
"oh you had to make an AU to ship them because you know it's toxic"- No, it's just playing around with scenarios. Learn to separate fanon from canon. This specifically goes for the redeemed AU's I see of the Beasts, people still complain, they act as if people can't change. One of the biggest examples I have of that is FlutterCord, Discord did plenty of messed up things, but in the end, he still managed to change. You'll still get burned at the stake for it though.
"You must be an abuser yourself to condone this!!"- Extremely disrespectful and a WILDDD take. Need I say more??
"I ship Beast x Beast rather than Beast x Ancient's"- According to your logic, the Beasts are abusers right? And if we followed the same story, they are not mentally well whatsoever. You'd rather ship 2 dangerously mentally unstable characters together who'd just make each other worse? Destroy each other? Fuck each other up beyond belief? It doesn't make sense does it, nor is it fair for y'all to praise these ships but hate on the others. You like watching the cookies crumble huh 😭
CANON
"The ship isn't canon!"- We know that, everyone should know that. With what I said earlier, please learn to separate fanon from canon. That's what a fandom is, we do non-canon stuff, it's very fun, you should try it.
"It's a Proship/Dark ship!"- Going the canon route, Beasts are Eons old, Ancients are thousands of years old. Big gap yes, but nonetheless all of them are old as fuck. Older than bloodlines. Treating the Ancients as if they aren't grown adults. You're intentionally trying to make it weird. Stop calling ships you don't like proships please.
Also a little off topic but please don't listen to everyone you interact with on TikTok?? I remember one time I was scrolling through a comment section and saw somebody say "Doesn't Mystic Flour Cookie hate Burning Spice Cookie?" On a MysticSpice vid, looked in the replies, somebody asked for proof/where it was implied, and they didn't answer 💀 just blatantly spreading misinformation. Sources around you are way more reliable than people who don't back up their claims.
CONCLUSION
Even despite all this, you still have the right to feel how you wanna feel. Just please stop harassing people for simple stuff like this, in all honesty, I feel like it's more about seeing one of your favorite characters shipped with somebody who hurt them in canon that makes peeps upset. Which I can totally understand because I used to be exactly like that, I LIVEEEE for Dark Cacao Cookie, when Mystic Flour's update came out, I wanted her dead. Quite literally blocked someone because I couldn't stand seeing their MysticCao art. Hated what she did to my baby boy fr.
But then It started growing on me, over time, I just realized it was never that serious.
Even so, notice how I still didn't go out of my way to harass said person about it because I specifically didn't like it? It really is that easy. Block and go about your day.
I also suspect this because of stuff like this 💀
Love that person who replied, but it's not that hard y'all. We all can in fact, get along.

Part 2: Love in the Aftermath
this is a part 2 of this
The days following the concert were suffocating.
You thought you had mastered the art of pretending, of shoving your past so deep inside that it could never crawl its way back out. But Jiyong’s presence, that single glance during his performance, had shattered everything you had built to protect yourself.
You hadn’t spoken to him in years. No messages, no late-night calls, not even an accidental run-in at the YG building. The world had built walls between you two, and you had let them stand. But now? Now it felt like those walls had been made of paper, burning at the edges from the briefest of sparks.
And then he texted you.
“Can we talk?”
The message sat there on your screen, glowing in the dimly lit studio where you were still winding down from practice. Your group was still together—2NE1 was still standing, still making music—but you had ventured into solo activities too. It wasn’t a departure, just another part of your journey. Music was in your blood, just as it was in his. You had moved on, built something new, something that didn’t revolve around him.
So why did it feel like his words could unravel all of it?
You should’ve ignored it. You should’ve deleted it, let the past stay buried. But instead, before you could second-guess yourself, you found yourself typing:
“Where?”
His answer came quickly.
“The old place.”
Your breath hitched. The café. Your café. A quiet little corner of Seoul where, years ago, love had been simple, untouched by the pressures of the industry. A place that had once been yours and his alone.
You knew going was a mistake. But you went anyway.
Familiar Faces, Unfamiliar Silence
The café was exactly as you remembered it, down to the way the warm scent of coffee clung to the air. It was quieter now, a slow afternoon, only a few people scattered across the room.
And there he was.
Jiyong sat at the corner booth, the one you used to share, his fingers lightly tracing the rim of a coffee cup. His mint-green hair fell slightly over his eyes, a soft contrast to his usual bold colors. It suited him—ethereal yet striking, like he had stepped out of a dream. And though he looked nearly the same, there was something different about him. The exhaustion in his features was new. The way his shoulders seemed to carry a weight heavier than before.
For a moment, you hesitated. You could turn around, pretend you never saw him, pretend you never answered his message. But you had come all this way, and a part of you—one you hated—wanted to hear what he had to say.
Taking a deep breath, you walked over and slid into the seat across from him.
“Hey,” you said softly.
His gaze snapped up to meet yours, and for a second, his carefully crafted mask of indifference cracked. His eyes softened, something unreadable flickering behind them. “Hey.”
Silence stretched between you, thick with years of unspoken words. You had expected him to speak first, to have some kind of prepared speech about why he had called you here. Instead, he just… stared. As if he couldn’t believe you were real, sitting in front of him again.
Finally, he exhaled, setting his cup down. “I didn’t know how to reach out before.” His voice was quieter than you remembered, lacking the effortless confidence he once carried. “But I can’t keep pretending like everything’s fine. Like we’re fine. Because we’re not, are we?”
You swallowed hard, his words hitting deeper than they should have.
“No,” you admitted. “We’re not.”
Jiyong sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. “I’ve been thinking about us. About everything. And I—” He hesitated, then leaned forward slightly, voice lowering as if afraid of being overheard. “I regret how things ended.”
A bitter laugh escaped you before you could stop it. “Do you?”
His jaw tensed. “Yeah. I do.”
You looked away, your fingers clenching into the fabric of your jeans. “You left first, Jiyong. You were the one who walked away.”
“I know.” His voice was raw, and when you looked back at him, you saw it—the regret, the self-loathing. The years had changed him, and maybe, just maybe, he had spent them regretting the same things you had.
“I wasn’t ready,” he admitted. “I thought I was protecting us. The pressure, the rumors, YG breathing down our necks—I thought if we walked away, it would be easier. That it would hurt less.”
A sharp pain stabbed at your chest. “Did it?”
Jiyong let out a breath, his lips pressing into a thin line. “No.”
That single word felt heavier than any apology he could have given.
“I don’t know if we can fix this,” you admitted.
Jiyong nodded, as if he had already prepared himself for that answer. “I don’t either. But I’d like to try.”
You looked at him for a long time. At the man who had once been your entire world. The man who had left you in ruins. The man who was now sitting in front of you, asking for a chance to put those ruins back together.
For now, you weren’t ready to say yes.
But you weren’t ready to say no, either.
Maybe that was enough.
For now.
The Stage That Brought Us Back Together
You weren’t sure how it happened. Maybe it was fate. Maybe it was just the universe playing another cruel joke.
But somehow, a month after that café meeting, Jiyong was standing backstage at your solo concert.
The idea had started as a joke—CL had offhandedly mentioned it one night when you were brainstorming surprises for your setlist. “What if you bring out a guest? Something huge?”
You had laughed it off, but later that night, as you stared at your phone, the idea wouldn’t leave your mind.
Before you could talk yourself out of it, you had texted him.
“Want to surprise the world?”
His response came minutes later.
“Always.”
And now, standing behind the curtain, hearing the deafening screams of the crowd, you could feel your heart pounding. The intro to your song—the one you had written with him years ago—was playing. The audience had no idea what was about to happen.
Then, as the beat dropped, you stepped forward. And right behind you, stepping into the spotlight for the first time in years, was G-Dragon.
The crowd exploded.
Jiyong smirked slightly, his familiar stage presence slipping over him like second skin. He raised his mic, and the second his voice rang through the stadium, you felt it—this was meant to happen.
The performance was electric. Every verse, every note, every glance between you and him felt like the past and present colliding.
And then, as the final note faded, Jiyong stepped closer. His hand found your waist, and before you could even process it, his lips were on yours.
The stadium erupted.
Cameras flashed. The internet would break. But in that moment, nothing else mattered.
The Interview That Confirmed It All
Days after the performance that shook the entire industry, you and Jiyong sat side by side in an exclusive interview. The air buzzed with anticipation, cameras rolling, lights bright, and the interviewer practically beaming with excitement.
“So, let’s address the question on everyone’s mind,” she said, leaning forward with a playful grin. “The IT couple of YG—are you officially back together?”
Jiyong didn’t hesitate. He glanced at you with a smirk before turning to the interviewer. “What do you think?”
The interviewer laughed as the studio audience—handpicked VIP fans—erupted in cheers. You shook your head, suppressing a smile, but before you could say anything, Jiyong continued.
“I mean,” he shrugged, squeezing your hand where it rested on your lap, “I don’t think we ever really stopped belonging to each other. We just took a long… very long break.”
You glanced at him, raising an eyebrow. “Is that what we’re calling it now?”
Jiyong smirked, leaning back in his seat. “Sounds better than ‘years of painful separation and stolen glances,’ doesn’t it?”
The interviewer gasped dramatically. “So you were keeping an eye on each other all these years?”
Your lips pressed together as heat crept up your neck. “I mean…” you hesitated, choosing your words carefully. “You don’t just forget someone like him.”
Jiyong turned to look at you, something softer in his gaze now, his thumb rubbing slow circles against the back of your hand. “I never forgot you either,” he said, voice just above a whisper, but the mic still caught it.
The interviewer sighed dramatically, clutching her chest. “I swear, this is like a K-drama playing out in real life.”
The audience laughed, but the energy in the room shifted—this wasn’t just a reunion for fan service. It was real.
“So tell us,” the interviewer continued, “how did this comeback performance even happen? Did you two plan it from the beginning?”
You chuckled, shaking your head. “Not at all. It started as a joke. CL suggested bringing out a huge guest, and I don’t know, I guess a part of me wanted to see if he’d say yes.”
Jiyong shot you a playful glare. “You didn’t think I would?”
You smirked. “Well, you haven’t exactly been easy to reach these past few years.”
The crowd let out an “Ooooh,” and Jiyong chuckled, rubbing his neck. “Okay, I deserved that.” Then he turned serious, his grip on your hand tightening. “But when you texted me? I didn’t even have to think about it. The answer was always yes.”
The interviewer clapped her hands together, clearly enjoying every second of this. “So what was that moment like? On stage together again, after everything?”
Jiyong exhaled, leaning back in his seat. “It was… surreal. Like nothing had changed, and yet everything had.” He turned to you again. “The moment we started performing, it felt like home.”
You nodded, swallowing the lump in your throat. “Yeah,” you whispered. “It did.”
“And that kiss?” The interviewer gasped. “That wasn’t scripted, was it?”
You laughed, hiding your face in your hands, while Jiyong chuckled beside you. “Definitely not planned,” you admitted.
Jiyong smirked. “It just felt right. And judging by the reaction…” he gestured toward the screaming audience, “I don’t think anyone minded.”
The interviewer shook her head with a teasing smile. “Oh, trust me, no one’s complaining.” Then she leaned forward, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret. “So… what happens now?”
You and Jiyong exchanged glances. It wasn’t like everything was suddenly fixed. There were still conversations to be had, wounds that time hadn’t fully healed. But for now, you knew one thing for sure.
Jiyong turned back to the interviewer, a soft smile playing at his lips. “We take it one step at a time. But this time…” he looked at you, his gaze full of quiet promises, “we take it together.”
The audience erupted into cheers, and just like that, the IT couple of YG was officially back.
You were his again, and he was also yours.

Another fanfic writer got ran out of the fandom this weekend because of a 'guilty by association' harassment campaign. She wrote fic of Loustat switching and having a very Canonverse relationship, and a teenager started insulting her writing and inciting harassment by others until she quit writing. The allegation was she was mutuals with someone else who was assumed to be racist, which is flimsy enough, but the real reason was obviously that she wrote popular, beloved fics that did not subscribe to the Hypermasculine Daddy Lestat and Hyperfeminine Housewife Louis Fanon.
This fandom is a horrible place and I am so glad you're still with us and haven't let these people bully you into silence, Sophie. It's so awful.
I'm really, really sorry to hear that, anon. Can I ask who the author is? I'd like to have a look and maybe send them a message or a comment if I can. Hopefully they might be a bit like me though and come back after giving themselves some time and buffer.
It's all pretty hideous behaviour though, and mm - - okay, you know. It's been a few weeks since it all went down with me now, and I've had a lot of people reach out very kindly in DMs, and also had to have y'know, I guess I'd say offbeat, haha, and awkward and heavy conversations with people in my real life, both personally and professionally (although I will say it's kind of been a relief, and half my family has already turned it into a running joke. My mum, who was the first person I told, watched Disclaimer after I recommended it to her, and she keeps texting me photos of the Kevin Kline stalker character with 'your erotic fanfiction haters' and asking me if I'm sure I didn't kill somebody's son, lmao), but I've been thinking about it all a lot, and - - yeah.
Look, this is going to sound off topic, but bear with me for a minute, alright? Over the last two weeks, purely by coincidence, I listened to the Behind the Bastards episodes on Rush Limbaugh. I love that podcast in general, and those two episodes are fascinating, and really worth listening to if you're at all interested in the media landscape's pivot to the right in the last few years. They really explore who he is as a person, his ascent in radio, how he managed that ascent, and the space he created in media which would after him be filled by Fox News, Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan,et al.
One of the ways that he did this was by being loud, but also presenting himself as trustworthy, and really the only person anyone needed to listen to. He was a smart guy, anyway, anyone could hear that, and if people listened to him, they'd be smart too. One of the first majorly successful runs of this was his campaign against the show Murphy Brown, which is about a woman who is a single mother and a lawyer, successful, bright, and who interacts with a lot of gay people in different capacities in her every day life. Murphy Brown is famous for being one of the first shows to normalise both successful single motherhood, and LGBTQI+ people as varied members of our communities.
Now, Limbaugh positioned the show as offensive, and anyone who liked it as morally wrong, but more than that, he positioned his opinion as the only right one, and he would actively tell people not only to not watch the show, but to not engage with anyone who might have an opinion of it that wasn't his own. He did this by telling people they would be stupid, or 'missing something' if they didn't follow his obvious intellect, that they didn't need to think about it themselves, because he would do the thinking for them, Smart Person That He Was.
And so I'm like, y'know, listening to the podcast on my commute to work, and I just kind of think - - huh. Because it's kind of familiar, right? And I got thinking about how all those people were reblogging my 'vile anti black post' and telling all their followers to block me, thus trying to control their followers ability to see my posts, and presumably the posts of others, since they seem to do that a bit, and then I noticed that those same people trying to ensure everyone blocked me.....didn't block me themselves. And it suddenly just clicked into place.
Fascist rhetoric has come to fandom. Per the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
In simplest terms, fascism refers to a specific way of organizing a society: under fascism, a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people in that society, and allows no dissent or disagreement.
Fascism is more than just political, it's a philosphy and a mindset. Rush Limbaugh was a media figure, and he was a fascist, and interestingly - importantly - he did not believe in most of what he said. What he wanted was power, success, control, an audience, and to dictate the rhetoric in the media landscape because that granted him that power, success, control, and audience.
And look, I'm not saying these people attacking others with different opinions in the fandom are fascists, but they're using a fascist playbook. Their criticisms, harassment campaigns, threats to dox, actual doxxing, threats to not only involve but criminally endanger children (which I have since learnt my nephews were not the first target of - someone in this fandom who I won't name reached out to tell me they'd similarly threatened to send things to her children) (also I've seen posts that the people who initially were vocally strawmanning my arguments wouldn't do that, and sure, maybe they wouldn't, but all I can say is that if I knew members of my own corner of the fandom were threatening to find and send porn to any minor, let alone children as young as 7, I would be loudly and outspokenly condemning it), and attempts to suppress anything they don't agree with, is fascist behaviour.
They are allowing no dissent, no disagreement, and actively interfering with people's real lives to achieve that.
I don't think this will make any difference to them, I think some might not know what they're doing, but I think a lot do at this point, and I guess what I want to do in this post is just to share what I personally think that it is, and I guess - - mm, not offer words of advice exactly, but perhaps offer some gentle encouragement. I'd encourage anyone in this fandom - hell, everyone in life right now, given the state of things - to approach anyone who tells you there is only one way to create, only one way to enjoy something, or interpret something, or only a select group of people that you should listen to, with caution at the very least.
Fandom - again, hell, community - has always, to me, been about encouraging others to explore and engage with it on their own terms. Diversity of opinion is good, it's healthy, different takes on characters should be exciting, different iterations in fanart and fanfiction is a celebration of the fact that we bring our own stories to, well, stories, and anyone telling you who you should or shouldn't engage with without having a healthy, equal conversation about why you shouldn't engage with them, should be given respectful, reasonable doubt.
Anyway, I'm sure this'll piss people off again, but y'know, I don't really care about them at this point. I think their behaviour is ugly, antithetical to what fandom has always been about, and frankly, I think it's antisocial. I do care about you guys though, and I don't know. I hope this perhaps sheds a little bit of light for you in the same way that I felt it shed a little bit of light for me, or at least makes you think a little bit more broadly about what this desire to control is a part of, and how to engage (or rather, not) with it. But more than anything, I hope that author's okay, and that they've made friends in this fandom like I have who can offer their support.
#it's also interesting to note when this sort of thing flares up#it def happens when there's a flurry of bottom lestat fic on ao3#but i was saying to someone in dm's yesterday morning that i wondered if something would happen#after the writers room posted their wall of fanart and there was not a single f*mme louis artwork (of which there is an abundance) on it#and lo#here it is#i've been in this fandom like 8 months and it's interesting to start to notice the cycles and trigger points#i do think it's gearing up too because there's a lot more convo about tvl / the fact that it's happening#and like#i don't think lestat is a gothic heroine#but he definitely has scenes where he shares archetype tropes in that regard in tvl more than louis ever has#lmao i feel like i'm swinging right now i should stop#(casual reminder to anyone who might be reading that i have an open case with the esafety commission in australia rn#and a digital safety lawyer care of my mum close at hand <3)

I reblogged this already but I'm reblogging it again because during my rewatch yesterday I realized jayce being the leader of piltover was in fact a plan mel set in motion starting all the way back in episode 4 of season one:
2/3rds of season one was spent on this plot line, that's not something that happens only for it to go nowhere. it was painfully clear that it was always the plan for jayce to be piltover’s figure head. he IS the golden boy, the man of progress, the defender of tomorrow, as you say, but the writers of season two decided to ignore that for whatever reason—which really sucks! his role as piltover’s hero/propagandic figure who just so happened to be a scientist was always a very underutilized aspect of his league lore imo, which does unfortunately make sense because iirc he was designed to be a foil to viktor first—who existed as a standalone character before jayce was around—and everything else was second. season one worked so hard to build him up as a character outside of that relationship, and season two threw him straight back into the hole they had dug him out of. to fuck something that practically writes itself up so badly is just....ugh. the cognitive disconnect from the story as it was written necessary to achieve that is sort of impressive in way.
re: jayce's recklessness, I would like to point out that most of his really reckless actions are things he's talked into doing by someone else. mel is the one who made him blurt out the truth of his work at his trial, viktor is the one who talked him into breaking into heimerdinger's office, marcus (unintentionally) gave him the idea to set up the barricade on the bridge, ambessa and mel are the ones who (highkey and lowkey respectively) fear mongered him into making hextech weapons, vi is the one who talked him into the shimmer raid, etc.
caitlyn's story in season one was about finding out the truth: the truth about silco, the truth about zaun, the truth about piltover. she was your average sheltered rich girl whose parents wanted to keep her from seeing the real world in order to protect her. she despises the power her family name holds, she despises that she has to question whether any of her achievements are due to her own merit or her parents buying them for her, and yet she still constantly uses the name she hates to get her way and do whatever she wants (and jayce’s name! she used his new position as a councilor to get vi released from prison without his knowledge! and she used it to convince ekko to let her take gemstone back to piltover!)
her arc in season two should've been about her having to confront her name and legacy as the new head of house kiramman, and her recognizing that she's been doing the exact same thing her parents did. her doing so was probably going to be portrayed as though it was justified because she's using it for good because that's what riot set up—which I'm fine with because I never expected them to address her privilege much more than they already did in season one because that's just how they treat their lore.
but making someone as kind as cait, a dictator who gassed people was totally unnecessary and insultingly out of character, for her AND jayce. even if they were blinded by rage, I refuse to accept that these two characters—who are fundamentally good people that care very deeply about doing the right thing and making things better—would go to such lengths:

side note: I kind of doubt jayce would've made caitlyn sheriff at the beginning of season two considering his reaction to her being caught in jinx’s attack in act two, and especially not after she was kidnapped in act three. it's not impossible of course, but I think it'd make sense for it to happen later in the season after things have calmed down some, or it could've made a really good finale for her too ngl.
The thing that bugs me most about Caitlyn's arc is how obviously she was forced into the position Jayce had been set up to fill.
Jayce was the de facto head of the council that Sheriff Marcus (keep that in mind) reported directly to for city security.
He was the Golden Boy, Man of Progress, beloved by everyone in Piltover for the invention of Hextech! Charismatic! Handsome!
They didn't NEED martial law. After Jayce emerged unscathed from the terrorist attack, most of the council dead, Piltover would have been falling over itself to give him sole authority regardless of him wanting to quit the council right before the attack.
And Jayce should have been beside himself with rage! Jinx turned his invention, his dream, into a weapon that nearly killed him and the two people he loves most! Mel and Viktor, at the same time! She ruined his peace deal! (And killed Silco, but for some reason Cait and Vi never tell anyone about that)
But nope. He's just sad, and tries to talk Caitlyn down from wanting to kill Jinx.... Like wtf!! Where did his passion go?? His recklessness? Caitlyn got it all.
Let's say he's still reeling after killing the kid in his shimmer raid and fearing the consequences of violent intervention. Fine. But then there is the attack at the memorial. Now it's bigger than Jinx, and his entire city is threatened.
Picture the end of episode 1, with the council gathering in the basement after the memorial attack and it is JAYCE marching in to announce the strike team, with Caitlyn and Vi beside him, with their shiny Hextech weapons.
They didn't need to give Caitlyn political power. She could have become Sheriff under Jayce! She would have had nearly the EXACT same scenes. She doesn't get a single moment where she acts like a political leader in Act 2 anyway!
We never see her do anything the sheriff wouldn't do, which tells me this was a late change to cram all the remaining story into one season, to every character's detriment. If Caitlyn had just been following Jayce's orders until running into Vi, her flip would not have felt so jarring.
She loves Jayce as an older brother, she's grieving her mother, she and Jayce could have BOTH been manipulated by Ambessa. Let Caitlyn be at the forefront of all the awful shit she's ORDERED to do, instead of ordering it HERSELF.
By giving her ultimate authority instead, the few clipped scenes of her redemption, her "I know" and letting Jinx go free are nowhere near enough to get the audience back on her side. As evidenced by how many people hated her arc this season.
#the more I think about season two the more I believe it was completely sabotaged by the remaining writers#and it's just....insulting for them to pretend season two was always meant to be a continuation of season one when it obvs wasn't#sorry to bring up viktor AGAIN but they were so heavy handed with the machine herald references for example#I refuse to accept they weren't ever planning to go that route. like why do that if you weren't you know??#and the black rose plot was obviously shoved in so they could make mel and ambessa champs in the game and wasn't supposed to be there at al#text#not t/oaru#not r/vb#arcane#q

(oh hey, we didnt have a long rant in a while, this wasnt supposed to be so long, as per usual with me ... i looked up some refs of the botw sonau ruins since i wanted to see how to combine its design to my sonau design in my totk rewrite- and this happened ... in case this sounds too angry or aggressive, its not meant like that, im not imploding about it, its just frustrating and annoying to me)
i have a problem with pretty much every inch of totk, and theres lots of big problems, and lots of things i find absolutely bafflingly stupid decisions-
one bafflingly weird and stupid decision to me, though there are way more important ones, is the nigh complete seperation from botw sonau (zonai) design aesthetic and totk sonau design aesthetic- its so .. weird and utterly unecessary it will never stop bothering me, its one that has relatively little impact in development but huge impact on the believability of the world
you have these ancient ruins of long gone people (that imo should have stayed a mystery, since that sense of lost history you cannot grasp makes both the world more believable and real feeling and will never let you stop thinking about, if you care about that kind of stuff at least- but i talked about that in length before im sure), but whats left leaves you still with a pretty clear design aesthetic, at least in the buildings that remain (the armor less so bc it really doesnt look like anythign ancient and just doesnt really fit together)
and then you make a game around them- but ... completely redesign their aesthetic .... in a rather big contrast too, for literally NO reason, there is not a single reason to do that, not even the excuse of trying to seperate the two games in their core aesthetic (like in the case of the shiekah- though that too is stupid bc ITS A DIRECT SEQUEL- IF YOU DONT WANT TO MAKE MORE OF THAT DESIGN THEME or leave it in for that matter THATS CORE TO THE PREVIOUS GAME DONT MAKE IT A DIRECT SEQUEL YOU DUM-) can do any work here, the botw sonau ruins werent many, it was background stuff, it wasnt a main theme and it didnt carry any importance in the game itself
like, botw sonau architecture was dark stone with red highlights (a color that usually fades rather quickly, imagine how strong it had to be once, maybe it was even more colorful at some point), bird, boar and dragon carvings, torches in bird shape, alot of swirls and round patterns among the blockier rough shapes, its was pretty detailed with patterns and pictures all over it --
totk sonau? blendingly white stone, all blocky shapes like unfinished blender models, not a swirl to be found, green hologram lights (or cold white light, i dont think there are any totk sonau torches, just those weird candle things- most light sources are lamps in impeccable shape all giving off that cold white light) and gold blocky script, theres rarely alot of detail on them, the pattern most often present beign a scale pattern ... one which i dont remember appearing anywhere on the botw sonau ruins in that way/that often, the only animal motif is a dragon head every now and then and it honestly feels tacked on, like they scrambled to try and connect the two in any way shape or form, white gold and green, theres nothing red anywhere, they neither connect to the botw sonau architecture nor to the one armor set- or its description, totk sonau have nothing to do with the phirone (faron) region (aside from that one quest that could have been placed anywhere), they are weirdly modern and techy, theres nothing "barbaric", not even their clothes are in any way connected (im so sick of all that gold tbh) even their magic isnt really .. magical, it all feels like science fiction type tech stuff (even though they said they wanted it to feel magical, couldnt be further from that tbh) the design of their magic symbols dont line up with their own building aesthetic or anyone elses even, its so messy
if you do the quest to get the fith sage its even more apparent- its the direct contrast between botw and totk sonau, its like a cut into a mod, theres no overlap, you cant argue that its bc the botw ruins where exposed to the elements and thats why the color differs- the totk sonau ruins left to rot both in the underground and in the literal sky are all just as if not more exposed, yet they all remain in rather good shape, all keeping the white and often completely colorless look, most damage being just some clumps of mold (?) or something having fallen over, and if they were protected so their color didnt change? wheres the red? the colors all should be in pristine shape then but its not bc there is no color
their excuse of "uuuh the hylians build those things in honor of the sonau!!" they tried to give doesnt work, like all other excuses, if they did why the hell does it look so different? sonau stuff was all over the place, you have the blueprints right there, WHY even build it? in those regions nonetheless that were of pretty little importance as far as we know, if this were the case they should be on the forgotten plateau or around hyrule castle but they are not- ALSO if the hylians built them for them .. so after they died out .. why then is there some weird mechanism with their actual aesthetic there in the ones in phirone? if they built it while they were still there ... why make it look so different?? ADDITIONALLY hyrules style of architecture is closer to the totk sonau one than the botw sonau so you cant even say it was influenced by their own style bc botws sonau is more different than both of them
it also adds to the .. feeling of something being off about the entire game (like it felt to me even shortly after starting to play), while i dont want to touch on the stupidness of how they handled totk shrines since thats another long rant i already did before, the sudden appearance of totk sonau style stuff literally everywhere (and the disappearance of anything not plot relevant shiekah bc it just went poof according to interviews and neither that nonsensical excuse nor anything in the game making sense- bc in the end they just wanted it gone and didnt care) would seem LESS weird if it was in the style of botw sonau, you know that style, its been here the whole time and more of it appearing would seem much less jarring, even if it doing so in completely non sensical ways- it would at least lessen that weirdness
i do not get why you would do that, did your designers have nothing to do so you made them make an entirely new aesthetic? did you not want your holy perfectly goodest god king to be anything but the most clean and kingly looking so you didnt even go for the barbaric idea from botw?(which i am not a fan of either) bc of course someone supposed to fill the role of perfect example of how to be good king of holy hyrule to zelda couldnt look "primitive"? was that given to the ancient hylians instead? with their designs going, to me, rather close to a mix of native american and ancient greek aesthetic (uh oh)- to contrast them to your superior alien that brought the idiots on earth technology since we didnt have enough tired tropes in here already? thought that design theme was more sellable? simply didnt care? (tbh, most likely in my eyes given the carelesness of the game to connect in any way to botw, much less in a meaningful one)

The way a part of the slenderverse fandom seems so to opposed to anything less than healthy relationships between characters is crazy to me—I understand the anxiety when it comes to getting down in the germs about these guys but none of them are heathy.
In Marble Hornets specifically, even Jay and Tim, who are arguably the most so, have problems, and honestly probably wouldn't be really near each other if not for the circumstance. I mean we have seen how Tim reacted to Jay's behavior in season 3 (cough entry 59) and he only forgave him because of Brian's meddling and his own fear at the situation.
Tim isn't flawless though. Later in the series he also gave Jay his medication without his consent on a whim, and Jay- god don't even get me started. These two clearly care about each other to some extent, and I do ADORE their bond, but Jay routinely lied to Tim and DOXXED HIS MEDICAL RECORDS, all while complaining about the fact there wasn't more information.
Yes, he also ran after Tim when Masky fronted in Entry 61/62 out of concern and fear, and he also isn't a totally emotionless dickbag as he does try to be there for and comfort Tim in Entry 66 in his own stunted way, along with trying to help him in the tunnel in Entry 65 before Tim tells him to run and Jay gets too scared not too.
But you can't ignore the fact these character are messy and real because of that. Honestly, the compulsion to is bizarre to me.
Idk I have been worried to talk about my thoughts on character relationships (platonic or otherwise) because some people seem allergic to the idea of characters like Jay or Tim as anything less than perfect victims, or Alex being less than a monster, but I think exploring their moral complexities is fun! People aren't ever purely good or bad, and sometimes people can do good things for selfish reasons, or have bad thoughts without acting on them, and exploring that side of them is fun.

LILAC: Hey, so Ezekiel said I’d find you up here - oh. Talk to me.
ARAMINTA: It’s nothing, really.
LILAC: It’s clearly something. What’s up - did Dodo only recite love poetry to you twice this morning?
ARAMINTA: Today is your day.
LILAC: It is my day - and I’m choosing to make it about you at this moment. So tell me.
ARAMINTA: Hosting this - it is a privilege and I love seeing how the contestants grow - but it also makes me think back to the island, and of all the other people Dodo could have potentially been happy with instead of me.
LILAC: Wait - whoa. Have you not seen the two of you together?
ARAMINTA: I have. And all of this feels so unfair since when it’s just the two of us, he makes me feel like I’m the only other person in the world. It’s nothing that he’s done. It’s just me - all me. And I see you with contestants and I think “oh, they could be cute, but then they also could be cute” - what if everyone else is thinking that Dodo made the wrong choice?
LILAC: Then plum everyone else.
ARAMINTA: What if he has made the wrong choice? For him, I mean?
LILAC: Okay - oh, woof. Listen, when people have just started dating, most of the time they’re not exclusive. And if they are, it’s purely incidental.
LILAC: So what you saw on the show was merely what would have been going on in the background in real life. Though I get where it would have been hard to watch. Do you still feel like he’s the person for you?
ARAMINTA: Yes. Absolutely.
LILAC: So is it more that you wish you’d met under different circumstances?
ARAMINTA: Yes - actually, no. I wouldn’t have been the person that I am today, had I not entered the competition. It - it definitely did a lot of good for me.
LILAC: And maybe if you and Dodo had met elsewhere, you wouldn’t have given each other a chance? [dryly] I’m feeling that way a lot about my situation.
ARAMINTA: True. And I appreciate the opportunity. But then I look at Daisy Dee, who’s so gorgeous and has such charisma, and Sierra, who’s simply amazing - and I wonder how he could have possibly picked me? It’s not that I’m jealous of either of them, it’s-
LILAC: The Inner Araminta Own Worst Critic?
ARAMINTA: Perhaps.
LILAC: You could also maybe look at it like, “here’s all these ‘amazing’ people he met and had a great time with, and he still chose me? So to him, I must be extra amazing? And he must really want to be with me?” Could you try and think of it that way?
ARAMINTA: Hmm.
LILAC: And if you can’t see yourself that way, could you maybe believe that Dodo does?

LILAC: Would you try and talk to him about this sometime? I know that communication isn’t always easy for you stiff upper lipped Henford types, but if you explained how you felt exactly the way you explained it to me just now. He thinks the world of you. I certainly don't think I have the Hot Goss pinned down on this, so I am not super-confident in this to caveat, but anyway:
but I honestly don't see how any sort of durable policy change could be accomplished this way. Anything substantive he could do this way could be rolled back by the next president and presumably would be if it was unpopular
This is imo a sketchy model to project onto politicians - everything they do can be rolled back by the next administration. You can't escape that so it doesn't shape you all that much. And meanwhile "what is popular and unpopular in levels that are relevant" is quite opaque, certainly 4 years away from the election. Most administrations structurally understand that they are going to do some mix of "appeasing the voters" and "pursuing their agenda" and future predictions just aren't gonna be solid on any of it. This is why you see massive attacks on USAID (something with minimal domestic constituencies) but Trump emphasizing no cuts to Medicare. That is the "play" they are making.
From that I think the Trump admin is not only willing to eat some heat from voters for priority goals, I think almost all admins are. Additionally, you don't need much to get "their electoral victory has made the Trump Team overly hubristic when it comes to electoral success and they are drinking their own kool-aid on how polling is useless", that is an error too common to mention.
He could destroy a lot of institutional expertise, but I don't think "wreck the federal civil service" is a likely policy goal for him.
On this I agree in a general sense. He isn't a libertarian after all, Trump generally wants to expand the government. Though I do think there are coalitional things at play where X% of this is some form of "wreck the government/own the libs", but we can set that aside.
Re: the two plans, for the first one that loops back to "what is success", so to tackle the second there is maybe an X% truth here but I am skeptical it is much because like it just isn't gonna work right? Judges don't "get distracted" they have dockets for a reason, Congress is eye-rolling a lot of this right now, and Trump is getting dinged in the polls over this stuff. It is just a lot of work for a purely symbolic branding exercise that doesn't have a lot of payoff.
So I think that loops back to the first one, where "success" is not some mythical reductions in waste spending to close the deficit. That is obvious fiction and I do not believe enough of the admin is that stupid. I also don't think that federal staffing levels will move that much, because these guys again aren't libertarians and don't want a smaller government and seem to be putting very little work into actual mass-scale deregulatory measures (ofc you will get the typical Republican shifts). Particularly once you use the real numbers of federal staffers that includes all the contractors, because at this point the federal government outsources half of its workload and a government job doesn't mythically go away because a private company is signing the W-2's.
Instead my current working model is that this is just a good old-fashioned purge? If you get a ton of federal workers to quit or fire them, you can replace them with your own people. That is why they are trying to make as many jobs political appointees as possible, and get people "out the door" very quickly consensually (a court can't compel someone to take a job after all), and all that. They want it for a lot of reasons - corruption, for one - but a big one is that they do actually believe all that Deep State stuff, because when you strip away the emotional baggage "the federal workforce is hostile to the goals of the Trump Admin and the wider New Right" is completely true. I won't go deeper on this sort of "democratic vs technocratic government" topic here, but this seems like a perfectly coherent goal - reshape the permanent civil service and replace it with political appointees, aligned contractors, and a new crop of core servants on your team.
And it is a goal that courts will interfere with, if they were more aligned they absolutely would be able to reshape it more!
Since the courts are pretty much the only avenue of relevance in the current battle over executive expansion given that Republicans control Congress and don't seem to care all that much about it (they are chipping away at their pet issues ofc), I do think it is a little ironic that the Republican judicial strategy is something Trump 1.0 had the least input on. He really didn't care, best I can tell whatever justices the hardline Republicans put in front of him he said "great" and signed off on them. There was not, in fact, an attempt to put "lackeys" on the bench, and the Trump Triple are on average actually more independent than Alito or Thomas.
Which was a pretty unforced error! Like so many "norms", the idea that Republicans would have somehow balked at voting in underqualified partisans is a figment of the median voter's imagination; if the admin went to the mat on this Congress would have probably folded at least partially. And meanwhile the entire MO for the Trump administration 2.0 is depending quite heavily on how legal cases come out. They won't be the be-all-end-all of things ofc, but right now "they are probably going to lose most of these cases" is the biggest barrier their approach is facing. And the same guy probably could have flipped that outcome if he had thought about it.
