I’ve heard all to many stories of visibly disabled people having random strangers say something along the lines of “you’re so brave, I couldn’t live like that” but as all my disabilities are invisible the closest I’ve experienced to this was seeing people talk about how they wish they could cure their kids of autism and stuff like that.

untill today, when looking on youtube I saw a youtube comment that said “That would be absolute hell. Imagine you have full thoughts and sense of self but you can't talk or communicate except by thoughts to another person. To be fully aware and there is nothing you can do” and a bunch of replies along the line of “I would be thought-screaming to the other head that controls the body to jump off a bridge or building… basically just be a screaming voice in his head begging/convincing him to ki11 ourselves the fastest way possible.” (that’s a derect quote, and only part of it) someone even mentioned “split personality”

so let’s talk about why this is harmful shall we?

For one thing, don’t say you would kill yourself, in any situation, if you’re not suicidal. I don’t know why I need to explain this but I do. saying things like that can be very triggering to people who have experienced suicidal ideation or who have lost someone to suicide

second, saying stuff like this implies someone isn’t “normal” and that that makes them broken or lesser. This hurts, a lot. Like, I don’t know how to explain it in any other words

Being a furry does not equal a sexual attraction to animals, it’s a fandom based on an appreciation and love for fictional anthropomorphic animals. It’s roots being deeply found in Disney works, granted a lot of classic Disney did feature animal characters that walked on their four legs. The attraction is heavily founded by the fact of their extremely human personalities.

We enjoy the personification of these characters, not that fact they’re animals. In fact a lot of furries have zero attraction to feral styled characters.

I was rewatching mouthwashing, and I ended up thinking of the different reactions that Curly and Jimmy had in doing their tasks. How during the scene of Anya evaluating Jimmy and showing dread towards the idea of doing his evaluation, Curly was the one that offered to take it off her hands. He had no issue with adding more to his plate, because he knew - or well, thought, he knew that Jimmy wasn't going to "bullshit" with him since he's known him for a long time. When Anya hands Curly a note from Swansea, Curly goes to check out what the issue is and he takes care of it without a complaint, the only "complaint" he has is how this incident could have damaged the pods. Which is reasonable, those pods are their only way to be saved if anything tragic happens on the ship. However, in comparison to Jimmy being asked to do things, he's passive-aggressive about it. When Anya asks Jimmy if he could help her out with Curly's painkillers, he tells her that people should be worth their titles, specifically using her title as a nurse when she asked him for help and then when she says forget it, since he made her feel insecure, he still goes "Oh no, I'LL take care of it" as if he was doing a chore, a favor for her. Then, there's that part where he blows up at her for things that she didn't even ask him to do - more so the others asked him about it, like the code scanner, him deciding he needed to find the axe for the foam, and then, there's the medicine part (which when she does ask, and she reconsiders - going to do it herself, he takes that away from her). Jimmy complains about the tasks he has to do and he treats it like a big issue, a "woes me" that he has to do this and that - wanting the praise of the capital without actually doing any work. While Curly doesn't complain about it, in fact, he even mentions that he's aware of how well he is doing at his job as a Captain during that cockpit scene with him and Jimmy. If Jimmy only had to do a small amount of tasks to get irritated and annoyed at being captain, while Curly didn't which I feel like encapsulates their personalities. Curly understands what he's doing is a job, it's a responsibility, why would he complain at any point for doing what he's suppose too? Why would he be upset at people asking him to do tasks? While Jimmy on the other hand, isn't used to it at all and it's different to what he's had before and he's realizing that he doesn't actually like doing the work he has too. I just wanted to ramble about it even if it seemed kind of obvious xd

It’s obvious but it is a thing people miss or understate when trying to find parallels in Curly’s and Jimmy’s relationship/personalities.

Like the way people portray it as neither taking responsibility when it is almost split down the middle of Curly taking responsibilities and faults that shouldn’t be his and making himself unequipped to handle the ones that are while Jimmy refuses to handle the responsibilities he has because he wasn’t expecting the work that comes with them.

Not a lot to say but people forget that another thing the game comments on is prioritization of issues and responsibilities and how the guys fail at it in one way or another in the situation.

With this tinyyyy bit of info I am theorizing what the next arc will have as the interpersonal drama after tiny Momo. crazy how the “i will kill for you / i will die for you” it’s classic dynamic when it comes to duos similar to naruto and sasuke, but what kishimoto makes to set them apart is which one of them he gives those roles. like typically you would think the < i would kill for you > would be sasuke’s and sure, sasuke would kill for naruto given the chance, but this is not something he would do JUST for naruto as we see him being ready to kill also for his family/loved ones. it’s not a naruto only thing. meanwhile the < i will die for you > is a naruto only thing!! because sasuke is a goals driven character that thanks to itachi, he views himself as a tool that has to put his goals above everything else and yet. he would die for naruto and this is the ultimate proof of how much he loves him. meanwhile on the other hand you would also think that naruto would be the < i would die for you > and again! he would! but this isn’t really a specific sasuke thing. naruto sacrificing for a friend is something you can see him do for anyone, that’s who he is. however kishimoto making him the other side of the coin with naruto being ready to kill for sasuke is naruto’s own ultimate proof of love that he would go against his own morals for sasuke. and it’s just ughhh

I think y’all don’t realize how insulting it is as a descendant of pogrom refugees and Shoah victims to constantly hear Hitler analogies to such and such fictional blorbo. as nice as their agreement to make up was, I don’t think this is the last of the divorce. they sounded really frustrated at each other when the ladder broke, so their truce was just that. a temporary promise to not kill each other to death for like an hour

Of all the themes in Mouthwashing, I think the themes of punishment and virtue are the most subtle.

It’s so odd because it’s a subversion where all the characters are punished for their virtues more than their flaws except Jimmy. Curly sees the best and people and tries to do right by all parties whether deserving or not. He is then forced to see everyone fall to their worst states while he can’t do anything. Daisuke is optimistic and hopeful, playful to a fault and a big morale. He dies in agony the one time he is forced to act in a serious event. Anya is kind and capable, knowledgeable in her field. Yet, she is treated like a dunce and does being treated like a dead weight.

The only characters who aren’t punished per se are those without direct virtues. Swansea is ornery and rude the moment we meet him, Jimmy is self explanatory. Yet, Swansea is still punished with Daisuke’s death, while Jimmy escapes in a way. Not having to face the final aftermath or even acknowledging how he could never really fix it. He suffers and is tormented, but he doesn’t really care because in his mind he didn’t fail in his head of proving something to Curly.

This is rambling y really but it really is the theme of no good deed but to the extreme. Good people punished for their attempts at virtue while the bad person victimizes themself over their suffering.
