Here’s a thing I don’t understand about Moshang vs Bingqiu:

Why did Moshang leave a bigger impression than Bingqiu? I’ll admit it, I didn’t have any strong feelings towards Bingqiu when I finished svsss the first time. But Moshang left a bigger impression and I was HOOKED on shipping them.

Eventually, Bingqiu warmed up to me the longer I was in the fandom and thegamingmuse’s analysis definitely helped me understand their relationship better.

It’s funny people are saying that svsss is the silliest and simplest (in terms of plots and characters, etc) to read out of MXTX’s novels, but I have to say that her writing pretty dense. (I mean like in terms how “A Series of Unfortunate Events” is a dense read, lovingly.)

I thought my ability to read such a dense text was decent at the very least, but boy was I humbled when I read svsss because I was struggling to comprehend some of MXTX’s writing. I don’t blame others when they completely miss something that the fandom points out and say that people can’t read but honestly I can barely remember half the content of what’s in the series because there’s so damn much.

I've read that shit and I can't believe how sj can sell that image of Louis and I'm really tired. I feel like the OP speaks for itself but I'll respond to this anyway.

Sports aren't "gendered," they're separated by sex. They are organized this way for both physical/material and social reasons.

1) male and female bodies are different in many ways. Men have certain advantages that are inescapable, especially in full-contact sports, such as height, bone density, lung capacity, and upper body strength. Women have different advantages which are often overlooked in male sports such as a lower center of gravity, flexibility, lower-body (core & legs) strength, high pain tolerance, and endurance. Having separate male and female sports allows both male and female strengths to be displayed. In this way, sex-segregation in sports isn't akin to racial discrimination, but to separating athletes by weight classes.

2) because of misogyny, men dominate any space they're in. A mixed-sex space is a male-dominant space. (Think for example of the studies showing that when men and women speak the same amount, the women are perceived as dominating the convo). Female-only sports ensures that women will be fully represented. That they'll get scholarships, brand deals, medals and championships, and screentime. Unless spaces are specifically carved out for women, men will take up all available spaces and advantages. And in this way, sex-segregation in sports is akin to affirmative action.

3) women and girls worked long and hard for female-only sports and they deserve to have the opportunity to be surrounded by women, to build camaraderie among women with no males present. Mixed-sex leagues (should/can/do) also exist for ppl who don't want to be in a single-sex environment. But this shouldn't override the interests of women & girls that want to be in female-only sports leagues.

Essentially, for both social and physical/material reasons, when we fail to separate at least some sports leagues by sex, we are cutting most women out of upper athletics almost entirely. Female athletes deserve better.

women's sports is one of the loudest and most successful anti-patriarchy campaigns in human history. what women's sports did and does is prove, over and over again, the excellence, the raw power and strength of the human woman. it completely disrupts ideas on gender.

you have big, powerful women in rugby. fast, endurable women runners. impeccably strong gymnasts. women with strong, large bodies that take up space. that are HEALTHY. they are not RESTRICTED or ladylike. they are free of the stillness/deadness that femininity demands. no corsets. no (aesthetic) thinness. no hourglass bodies for gawking. women's sports screams to society "we are fully human, not objects, not small men. we are not domestic dolls. we are hunters and foragers. fighters."

why do you think men are so vitriolic about it? why don't they want women in football? why don't they want it televized? why do they keep harassing female basketball players? why do they insist on dressing women in sexualized uniforms? why do they now make it taboo to exculde men from women's sports?

i firmly believe it's because women's sports tears patriarchal gender ideology apart so effortlessly. it completely spits in the face of patriarchal political propaganda and shows how null it is. it forces all of us to view women as full, as the beginning of human excellence, as central to human history. not as decorative sexual objects, no matter how men want us to be.

that's why there's so much aggression and derision when it comes to women's sports from men. because women's sports destroys the idea of femininity and depicts women as non-derivative. women must be monsters and cannot afford to play into the childlikeness that femininity demands. the arena of sports forces us to focus on women's physical performance rather than appearance. their strength rather than how attractive they are. their skill and strategy. their humanity. it is a form of entertainment where all female roles are agentive and active rather than passive.

women's sports events are also hotbeds for female and lgb solidarity like you have no idea!

y'all need to start watching women's sports. not only because it is exciting, but it deprograms the patriarchal bullshit out of you so fast. you realize how much is possible. how much we can all achieve right now.
