First of all Congratulations on 100 followers!!It's been an absolute pleasure reading your stuff! I love the way you write law, so I'd like to request for the prompt "Step away from the tree and put the present down" It sounds so hilarious, I can't wait to see what you come up with!! xx
OMG that’s so sweet! Thank you!! I’ve been having a great time doing this actually. I’m so glad I do a decent enough job of writing Law ‘cause I’m obsessed with him. This is gonna be fun!! I kind of ran away with this one soo....I hope you enjoy <3 :)!!
“You’re a mean one, Trafalgar Law.” You struggle to keep a straight face while singing and twirl just out of your captain’s reach. “You reeeaaally aaare a heeeeel,” you sing, all the while watching Law’s face grow increasingly stern. “You’re as cuddly as a cactus, you’re as charming as an eel, Trafalgar La-aw.”
You twirl around the kitchen until you’re back to the counter where you left your bowl of cookie batter.  The kitchen smells sickly sweet already, a tray of sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies cool on a rack. You suspect your captain has come to inquire why the Polar Tang’s kitchen has become a bakery.
“Sing that again and I’ll consider it mutiny, y/n-ya,” Law says cooly.
By no means do you think he’s joking, all the annoyance in his eyes and tension in his shoulders are real, but his threat rings hollow. Maybe because the only thing you’ve done is poke fun at him, you both know you’d never truly betray him. The fact that you were allowed to tease him at all was the real sign of how strong your bond was.
“Stop being such a grinch and I won’t,” you say. You begin pressing a person shaped mold into a sheet of gingerbread cookie dough.
You hear Law grumble something under his breath, but you don’t ask. The captain is welcome to grumble to himself as much as he likes, but it won’t stop you from bringing a little holiday cheer to the Heart Pirates. After all they’ve been through they need it, especially Law.
There’s a beat of silence before Law speaks. “Why are you doing this?” He asks. “There are much more important things to b–”
“Cookie?” You say. “I made one shaped like a polar bear just for you.” You turn around with a sugar cookie shaped like a bear’s face covered lightly with white icing for the fur and black for eyes, nose and mouth.
Law pauses to look at it, looks at you, and then to your surprise, begrudgingly takes it in his hand but doesn’t bite into it. “There are more important things to do than bake cookies,” he says.
You don’t dare comment on the fact that he just took one. You know well enough he’d hand it back to you if you did.“You're trying to come up with something else for me to do, aren't you?”
“There's always cleaning to do,” Law says. His eyes sweep around the kitchen littered with pans, bowls of icing, food coloring, wax paper, and cookie dough, “and you've made a mess. The cook will need it soon for dinner.”
“I know,” you say lightly. “We’re having a holiday dinner, remember? Decorate cookies, drink a little, dance? Bepo told you we’re opening presents before breakfast tomorrow.”
Law steadfastly ignored any invitation to join the fun. As the captain he was aware of all of your plans. He couldn’t help noticing the way the air in the Polar Tang was humming with excitement. The crew seems happier too, he wouldn’t yet say it, but Law knew you were good for their morale.
“I’ll be in my office,” Law says.
You knew it was coming but your shoulder’s still slumped a small fraction. Of course Law would stay in his office while everyone else was having fun. At first you thought your captain’s definition of fun was different from the crew’s but the longer you’ve stayed aboard the more you’re unsure. Every attempt you made to bring him out of his shell was met with resistance at best and outright rejection at worst.
“You won’t stay for a little?” You ask, no longer trying to hide your disappointment. “I was kind of hoping you would.”
Something passes across Law’s face, and then it’s gone and replaced with the cool, well-placed wall. Whatever it was, Law had decided to keep it from you. “No, I don’t have time for games, y/n-ya.”
“Will you be there tomorrow? We all put presents under the tree,” you say. “It’ll be short, we’re just going to open them in the morning after breakfast and then get back to work.” Not to mention you knew your present from him was sitting under the tree, earnestly wrapped with a bow.
“I doubt it,” he says.
Just once you wanted him to stick around the ones who love him, yourself included. You’ve always tried to keep your feelings hidden, buried deep under a warm concern for Law’s well-being and an admiration of his skills.
“I knew you’d say that, Grinch.” You have trouble keeping the bitterness out of your voice.
You watch Law’s eye twitch. “Am I supposed to know what a Grinch is or are you making up words now?” Law sighs.
Law’s not known to joke with you like this. The humor you two share consists of knowing looks, whispered barbs, and playful teasing,  but you still stare at him for a moment expecting some kind of punchline.
“The Grinch?” You repeat.“You know the children’s story about a green monster guy that hated the holidays because he thought they were too loud and annoying so he tried to rob the neighboring town of all its trees, presents, and decorations? They didn’t have that story in the North Blue?”
“No, I guess not,” Law says. “I’ve never heard that story before.”
“Well,” you pull a sheet of cookies from the oven and replace them with another batch. “Does it not sound like a certain someone?” You ask playfully.
He scoffs, “he’s not wrong. The holidays are loud and annoying. They’re a distraction.” Law finally bites into his cookie and pauses to stare at it for a moment, a flash of enjoyment shines in his eyes. He quickly covers it, lowering his head to hide his eyes below the brim of his hat. “Remind the others to keep it down tonight,” he says, then turns and leaves.
You set aside some of the cookies cooling on the rack to decorate for him later. You chuckle to yourself a little; there were crumbs on your captain’s face.
You couldn’t lie to yourself anymore. The party is fun, the crew has split themselves into three factions: the ones stuffing their face with cookies, honeyed meats, and thick spiced drinks,  the ones dancing to holiday music, and the ones still sitting around the table raucous with laughter as they play games. The only thing missing…the only person missing is Law.
At some point he made an appearance to grab a plate of food (much later than he should have, you noted) and then disappeared back to his office. Thoughts of your captain kept lingering, until you couldn’t ignore them anymore.
Which is how you ended up standing outside of his office, with your hand hovering before his door—too hesitant to knock. Why shouldn’t he stop for just one night? Part of you knows it’s your own selfish desire to see him that brings you here, but you know you’re right. After all he’s been through, you want to see him happy.
There’s a pause after you knock before he lets you in. Laws seated at his desk, his gray eyes focused on a book in front of him. They slide up to look at you as you enter.
“Hi,” you say. To give yourself an excuse you take the empty plate sitting on his desk. “Things aren’t too loud are they?”
“No, thank you,” he says.
His eyes don’t leave you as you had expected them to. He’s not so absorbed by his work that he looks away immediately. You don’t go into Law’s office often, but you’re one of the few crew members that can without an emergency. The small room is an eclectic collection of all the things Law keeps in his head. Shelves of books, maps, and scrolls line the walls along with a desk, safe, and a couch which you’ve occasionally found him sleeping on. You also pretend you don’t know about the collection of Sora comics hidden behind said couch.
Law observes you, his hands folded in front of his face keep you from truly reading his expression. The air feels charged as neither of you can look away from each other. Are the tips of his ears red? You wonder.
“What?” You finally ask.
“Nothing,” Law says. He coughs slightly and looks away from you, “actually, I…” You watch Law think the better of whatever he was going to say. It’s not just his ears that are slightly red, his cheeks dust pink as well. Suddenly your heart is hammering in your chest, butterflies make themselves known fluttering around in your abdomen and below. You’re on the edge of something, you just don’t know what yet. “Thank you for checking on me,” he says. “I’m fine. That’s all.”
“Oh…okay.” For the second time, disappointment folds over your enthusiasm. “Don’t forget to give your eyes a break, Law,” you say. “Maybe come out and join us for a little bit? The holidays are all about being with the ones you love.”
Law’s grimace doesn’t quite reach his eyes, “good night, y/n.”
You’re pleased to know Law isn’t working himself to death in his office, perhaps he was taking a night off in his own way. Regardless, enough of your worry vanished to allow you to enjoy more of the party. You dance and drink late into the night, and even find that a holiday story is being broadcasted on a transponder snail. The crew, equally as exhausted and drowsy, pile together almost like kids sitting around a fire to hear a story. You flop down onto the couch beside them and drift off to sleep. The last thing you remember is the warm glow of the tree lights and the scent of pine.
You wake up to the sound of rustling pine and ornaments knocking against each other. Immediately you’re on high alert, heart bounding. All the sleep that would normally fog your brain and muscles evaporated. Someone was here, in the low light you could see a tall, thin figure crouched under the tree. At first you start to alert the crew, but as your eyes adjust you realize you know that frame, the shape and bend of that body.
“Step away from the tree and put the present down,” you say, using the most authoritative voice you have.
Having been caught red handed, Law stops what he’s doing and allows you to flick the common room’s light on. The clock on the wall reads some time just before four in the morning. Of course it could only be your captain.
Law straightens from underneath the tree. He scowls down at you, holding a present in his tattooed hand. He quickly hid it behind his back.
Tension slowly leaves your body and is replaced with annoyance and confusion. So many questions swirl in your head, but only one makes it out of your mouth: “I thought you said you’d never heard of the Grinch?”
Law nearly chokes. “What?”
“Sneaking in at night,” you say. “Stealing presents. That’s kind of what the Grinch does.”
“I’m not stealing it,” Law says between clenched teeth. His eyes are hidden under the brim of his hat. Is he…is he embarrassed? “I’m placing it for tomorrow,” he mumbles.
You look between Law’s blushing face and the tree.“Oh…” you mutter quietly. “I—well, that makes more sense, but…I thought you said you weren’t going to join us tomorrow?” You rub the back of your neck and look away from him.
“I wasn’t,” he says. “But I—” You’re surprised when he brings forward his hand holding the gift. Law’s blush deepens and his determination to avoid looking at you grows. To spare you both, you stare at the gift neatly wrapped in his hand. It’s no bigger than his palm, a matte gray box tied with a golden bow. “It’s yours. I wanted to say thank you for…for your kindness.”
You take the gift gingerly in your hands. “You were concerned about finding your place. I doubted you at first,” Law says as you unravel the bow around the box and lift the lid. “But I think your place is here.”
Inside, a gleaming gold locket sits delicately on a white cushion. A gasp escapes you.
When did he do this? Why did he do this? Your heart beats wildly in your chest as your thoughts race. “I can't believe you….” The metal is cold and smooth against your fingers. It shines just enough to look thoughtful, but discrete enough that few would think of thieving it. That would be Law, you think to yourself, always practical. Still, the gesture touches you beyond words.
“Open it,” he says quietly.
The pendant opens with a small click and inside is a folded piece of white paper.
A vivere card.
You don't think you quite understand until the paper flutters away from you slightly. It moves in Law’s direction centimeter by centimeter.
You move the vivere card back into place and shut the locket. For Law to trust you with something so special and dangerous as his location stuns you. No matter what you’ll be able to find your way back to him. “I trust you, y’n... I trust you with the people most important to me and I want you to always be able to find me.”
“Thank you Law,” you say once you find your voice. “I…I can’t believe you did this for me.”
Law’s hand is warm and firm against yours, the feeling of him finally touching you melts every bone in your body. Your heart hammers in your chest. Your eyes slip from the softness reflected in Law’s gray eyes to his lips. “I’m attached to you in a way I’m not with most.”
That’s all he needs to say for you to pull him close enough to kiss. A surprised sound escapes his mouth before he begins to react. His hand leaves yours to slide around your waist and pull you closer to deepen the kiss.
You pull away when you're both breathless. A giddy smile pulls so wide your cheeks begin to hurt. Law pulls the necklace from the box and places it around your neck, still blushing as if this was more intimate than locking lips moments ago.
“Do you know how the Grinch ends?”
Law rolls his eyes but, clearly, decides to humor you. “How does it end?”
“He learns to love and his heart grows three sizes,” you say.

To Dad, From Lucky
A/N: Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers, this blurb idea hit me like a train yesterday. It was quite emotional for me to write, and I hope that translates well.
Tagging my babes: @dragon-kazansky @gracespicybradshaw @mrsjaderogers @cycbaby @askmarinaandothers @callsignscupcake @callmemana @kloofspeaks @notyoursbutlewis @milesdickpic @callsignthirsty @likelyrowdy @starlit-epiphany

Baylie was frustrated to say the least, it was Valentine's Day and she didn't want to give all her classmates a card. Most of them are mean to her. She had Katie's written out already and she didn't know why she had to do anymore.
"You look deep in thought there pumpkin." William said to his little girl.
"Why do I have to give everyone a card for Valentine's Day?"
"Because it's the nice thing to do."
"What if I don't wanna be nice?"
William tries hard not to laugh, "you are a nice girl though, remember?"
Baylie thought it over, and slowly nodded.
"What if I help you fill the others out?"
"Okay daddy."
His heart melted a little, he could never get tired of her calling him that. He would move mountains for his little girl, DNA be damned. William never pictured having kids, but here he was at seven in the morning helping his daughter with Valentines. They had the cards filled out in no time, and it was off to school for the kiddo.
"I'll see you later at your party pumpkin." He yelled out as she ran to the doors of the school.
True to his word, around one o'clock he was in her classroom that was decorated in cute little hearts. He nibbled on a heart shaped sugar cookie and drank punch out of a tiny heart shaped cup.
Cards were passed out, candy was consumed, and soon it was dismissal time.
"Wait, Daddy, I have something for you!" Baylie exclaimed. She went into her desk and pulled out a handmade card, and handed it to him.
On the front were 3 stick figures, labeled Mommy, Daddy, Baylie. Inside said "I love you Daddy." With a big, roughly drawn heart.
To: Dad
From: Baylie
He didn't cry easy, but damn if he didn't sniffle a little.
"I love it pumpkin." He said when he was sure his voice wouldn't betray him.
She hugs him tight.
"I love you too Daddy!"
They walk out of the school hand in hand.

When William died, Lucky never imagined another man would fill the Dad-sized hole he had left in her heart. Until Ice came along.
The first time she had accidentally called Ice "Dad" she had walked away and cried. She felt like she had betrayed William by doing so.
She calls her Mom, tells her what she did. She expects tears, anger, anything. What she gets is comforting words and warmth. She is told William would be happy she found someone she trusts with that name. She is told to not cry, that it's alright.
It takes her awhile to warm up to the idea, afraid of hurting feelings, even her own.
She finds the old Valentine's card she handed William all those years ago in her memory box. Time has faded it, but the heart is there and so is the little stick family.
She gets an idea, and rushes to the store. It's last minute she knows, especially as she fights the crowd of people who also waited until the last minute. She finds a card that fits his personality and hopes he will appreciate the humor.
She knocks on his office door.
"Come in."
"Hey Ice!"
"Hey Lucky, it's good to see you." He smiles brightly at her.
"I got you something." She says, the card behind her back.
"You didn't have to do that."
"Oh but I did." She hands him the card.
To: Dad
From: Lucky
Ice doesn't speak for a moment, gathering his thoughts. He gets up and hugs the girl tight.
"I love it Lucky."
"I love you too, Dad."
It doesn't hurt rolling off her tongue, like it was meant for him to get that title.
Two extraordinary men, and she's the lucky one that gets to love them both at very different times of her life. ❤️

A/N: no I'm not crying, you are.

I just saw a tumblr post -i can't find bc the app crashed- about someone trying to make heart shaped cookies that ended up looking like little cockedshaped cookies. I want my closeted baker!Harry from the microfics to be that person and blushing so hard and having a tiny gay panic in privatr, and I want Ron laughing at him trying to make things easier bc he knows Harry is kot ready for THAT talk, also Ron eating them anyways although he looked at them weird first and I want them let the kids decorate the cookies bc they have to take care of them and ran out of ideas and then Hermione arriving home and seeing kids tired and excited with too much sugar and then noticing the cookies and laughing after sending the kids away, taking the wine out, lifting her legs to Ron's thighs and relaxing while they eat cockedshaped cookies. Harry is not panicking anymore by then, Hermione understand he will not talk about it but reassures him in a soft way.
Ron says he'll take some to work tomorrow for Draco. Harry panics again and shoves them all into his mouth.
Eventually Harry manages to make perfect heart-shaped cookies and the other cookies for special ocassions.

Prompt: Bruno peeks into your future, not because he has a crush on you or anything! Just because...y'know...he wants to know if you ever get a significant other
a/n: i'm pretty sure i saw another post with this same concept, not trying to steal any ideas! just having fun :) also do they eat paletas in colombia? i have no idea.
Bruno Madrigal did not have a crush on Y/N. He didn't! He was a grown man goddamnit, he didn't get crushes on every pretty person who treated him with anything better than contempt.
Which, y'know, maybe you were the first pretty person(other than his beautiful nieces and nephews, of course) who treated him with something better than contempt, but that was beside the point.
His family joked about his sugar addiction. How almost every afternoon like clockwork, he tried to convince someone to go down to the bakery with him. And sure, the shortbread cookies melted on your tongue like magic, and the cakes so rich you almost couldn't eat more than a bite, the paletas the single most perfect thing you could wish for on a hot day, but that wasn't why Bruno spent a small fortune there.
It was for you. He just...liked seeing you. Every day. It was very normal and not at all creepy.
Bruno didn't want to be creepy. His reputation had improved somewhat since he returned from his, ahem, 'extended vacation' but he didn't want to make you uncomfortable, especially at your job. Surely, after all, the whole town was already in love with you(not that Bruno was in love with you!), who could resist your unorthodox beauty? Your freckled smile? Your loud, boisterous laughter?
That's what he would do. He would simply find out who you were going to end up with. He'd take a quick little glimpse into your future, just enough to determine who the lucky winner of your affections was, and then he could let his heart be shattered and move on help the two of you fall in love! What a matchmaker he was to his friend.
In his new vision cave, he hastily set everything up, wanting to know already, and as the sand began to swirl in sparks of emerald, his heart started pounding. There you were, walking in the park hand-in-hand, sharing a meal, passed out together on a couch...Each vision of you and a shadowy figure made Bruno's heart splinter. He wanted you to be happy, he really, really did, this was normal, this was fine....he focused harder and the shadow finally started to take shape.
No.
That...couldn't be right.
He had to have done something wrong.
Because as the image sharpened, the vague shape, the one that you were gazing at adoringly, brushing the hair out of their eyes and giving them a slow, soft kiss....was him.
And he looked...happy. The bags under his eyes were less oppressive, his clothes didn't hang off a skeletal frame, but mostly he seemed to just glow, with warmth and love and joy.
He stopped the vision, dusting the sand off his body. He ran his hand through his hair, took a deep breath, and bolted down the stairs to find his family.
"Does anyone want to go to the bakery?"

Omg #14 pleeeeease!! ✨
since you asked so nicely <3
-
"Christmas is cancelled," Bucky announces, closing the door behind him with a thud.
"Oh hey, Buck, I'm doing swell, thanks for asking. How was your day?" Steve deadpans, not even looking up from his drawing.
He'd seen Bucky just an hour ago, so his question is stupid and perhaps a bit uncalled for, but someone has to keep his over-dramatic boyfriend in check, and for the last century -- give or take a few years -- that someone has been him.
“Christmas is cancelled,” Bucky repeats, his dramatics unfazed by Steve’s nonchalance. “Clearly my day is bad, Steve.”
Steve looks up as Bucky plops himself down on the couch beside him -- barely beside, really -- and reclines like a Victorian lady who was just told that her daughter is to marry the town scoundrel. Steve is absolutely in love with him.
Steve, with a soft, fond sigh, lays his notebook on the table and turns to give Bucky his full attention. “Okay, I’ll bite. Why is Christmas cancelled?”
“Because,” Bucky laments, “they ran out of cinnamon at the grocery store and now we can’t make the Winnie Barnes Cinnamon Cookies on Christmas Eve and so Christmas is officially cancelled.”
Steve can’t help but frown at that himself. “Fuck,” he agrees, putting an arm around to lean his head atop Bucky’s. “I guess Christmas is cancelled.”
Bucky huffs, and then they both just sit there for a moment. Bucky is half on top of Steve, leaning against his chest, with Steve’s head tilted onto his. The lit fireplace is slowly warming up his fingers, still frosty from the cold outside, and the speaker in the corner is playing some festive tune that Bucky vaguely recognizes from Sam’s playlist.
It smells like cinnamon-apple scented candles, and Bucky feels the dramatics melt out of him.
Yes, he wants his mom’s cookies at Christmas. It’s important to him. It serves as a reminder of the person he was before the madness, and of Brooklyn in ‘36. Plus, those cookies were part of Steve’s grand festive gesture to him last year, the one that ended in the most memorable kiss of Bucky’s life. And sure, maybe that was thanks to Natasha’s cleverly placed mistletoe more than it was the cookies, but they were part of it.
And now Bucky can’t even make them on Christmas Eve.
But if the Grinch taught him anything -- which he did a lot, actually -- it’s that Christmas isn’t things, it’s feelings. And he doesn’t need the cookies anymore to feel at home in his own head, or to feel loved by Steve. Those come naturally now, more than they did a year ago and more than they did even yesterday.
Steve kisses the top of his head like he knows exactly what he’s thinking.
“We can make sugar cookies,” Steve suggests into his hair. “Like my Ma used to. I think we still have a bunch of red frosting from Nat’s birthday.”
Bucky turns to look up at him, and thinks for the hundredth time how lucky he is to be here, despite everything. He reaches up to stoke across Steve’s cheekbone, and thinks Steve knows what he means.
“Fine,” Bucky smiles, “But we have to make a few dick shaped ones.”
“Deal,” Steve laughs, before he seals it with a kiss.
💗 this accidentally became kind of a sequel to this, not that it's important
christmas prompts! ✨
(it is finals season and i don't have much time/energy to write these, so there's no guarantee i'm afraid)

PANDA ~|~ NANAMI x FEM!READER
Summary: Nanami and Yuuji stop into the local bakery. Nanami finds something he wants that’s off the menu.
Content warning: fluff, little bit of pining, child-parent relations, singledad!Nanami
Note: thanks again to Moni for beta-reading 🥰
word count: 1.6k
------------------------------------------------------
“Daddy! Look!”
It was a bakery they had passed multiple times on the way home, living just next door to it. It was small, tucked into one half of the ground floor of the low building it occupied, sharing a wall with a pharmacy. It served reasonably priced pastries and sandwiches, as well as some of the best coffee in Tokyo. Nanami usually took Yuuji there once or twice a month and let him pick what he wanted for breakfast.
The window display was almost always the same, Nanami would have missed the slight change as he tried to juggle the various bags they had accumulated from their early Saturday morning errands if his young son hadn’t pointed it out. He looked over to see the small bag of fruit he had asked Yuuji to carry on the sidewalk, a lone apple rolling away while his son stood on his tiptoes, his nose practically pressed to the glass.
Instead of the standard fare on the very top shelf, there was a row of buns in the shapes of various animals, with different fillings for each shape written neatly on cards next to each. Nanami had to admire the work, they were incredibly detailed.
“It’s a panda!” Yuuji looked back at Nanami and pointed at the aforementioned bun in the middle. “Can we get one?”
Nanami caught himself before denying Yuuji outright. He had been especially good today when they were running their errands, not complaining once as his father dragged him through town and entertaining himself in the various shops without getting into trouble. And they could go to the park later so Yuuji could run off his energy. A little sugar wouldn’t kill him.
“Sure. Go pick up your bag, though.” He pointed to the forgotten paper bag.
Yuuji quickly ran to pick up the bag (as well as the apple, adding it back to the bag before Nanami could tell him no), and grabbed his father’s hand to all but pull him into the bakery. It wasn’t as crowded as Nanami would have thought for a Saturday morning, something for which he was grateful. When there was a crowd, Yuuji liked to use people as obstacles and run around and through them as fast as he could. Only the obstacles moved, and he usually ended up on his butt more times than he would have liked.
They were able to go straight to an empty table to drop off their shopping before moving to the counter, and after a few seconds, one of the workers packaging cookies turned around, and Nanami’s breath caught in his throat.
It wasn’t like the bakery didn’t have pretty women working there-there were several, ones who would shamelessly flirt and try to butter up Yuuji as a means to get closer to his father, but Nanami didn’t indulge or even notice them. He was polite, got what he needed, then left. He never played into whatever fantasies the cashier of the month decided to dream up.
However, this time, it was hard to remind himself of that conviction when easily the prettiest worker he had ever seen there walked up to the register and smiled at him. Was she new? She had to be new, he’d never seen her before. He would have remembered seeing someone like you.
“Hi, welcome in.” You greeted and leaned against the counter. “What can I get for you?”
“Panda!” Yuuji yelled, his nose peeking over the top of the counter as he looked at you.
“Yuuji.” Nanami scolded and picked him up so he could actually see you. “Ask politely, son.”
Yuuji smiled at him then turned to smile at you. “Can I please have a panda bun please?”
You smiled and nodded. “Of course, sir.” You replied, making him giggle. Your smile widened and you finally looked at Nanami. “And for you?”
“I’ll just have a black coffee.” Nanami didn’t think he could focus on eating without choking if you were going to be walking around the bakery.
“Me too!”
“He’ll have a hot chocolate.”
“I want what you’re having.” Yuuji pouted. Nanami sighed and turned back to the counter.
“Make mine a hot chocolate too.”
You took his money and handed him a number for the table. “Give me just a second, I’ll bring everything to your table. Make yourself at home.”
Nanami nodded and lead Yuuji away from the big display case by the register back to their table, helping him out of his heavy winter coat when he was seated safely. He tried his best to listen to his son as he talked about a dog they had seen earlier today during their shopping trip, but he was finding it very hard to focus.
His eyes kept wandering back behind the counter, watching as you made their drinks and talked with the other workers, laughing along with them at a joke someone had said. He’d never felt this kind of attraction toward another person. It was irrational. He didn’t know you. Yet he still felt that draw.
There had been other women before Yuuji had come into his life, even a few dalliances on nights when Gojou would take him out and Toji would stay home to watch the kids, just to satisfy that primal need. There was even a girlfriend at one point. But Yuuji had declared he didn’t like her after several months, and that was enough for Nanami to end the relationship. There was no point in pursuing a woman who couldn’t to get along with his son.
So why was it now, after finding contentment in being alone for so long, that all he wanted to do was go up and ask you, a complete stranger, on a date?
“You boys are lucky.” Nanami looked up and saw you were now standing next to their table, placing their to-go cups in front of them as well as Yuuji’s panda bun. “This was the second to last one.”
“Do you normally sell out quickly on the animals?” He heard himself asking, like the back of his neck wasn’t on fire right now.
“We only just started making them this week, but for the most part, yes.” You straightened from setting the food down and hugged the tray to your chest. “The red bean panda usually sells first. I suppose people are more used to the flavor.”
“What’s your name?” Yuuji asked suddenly, taking a big bite out of the head of his panda.
“I’m Y/N.” You smiled at the young boy. “What’s yours?”
Thankfully, Yuuji took the time to actually swallow his food before speaking, which was uncharacteristic of him. “My name is Yuuji.” His son said proudly. “I’m five.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Yuuji.” Your eyes turned to Nanami expectantly. “And your name?”
“His name is Dad.” Yuuji told her before Nanami could reply. She laughed, and he thought he hadn’t heard anything quite so wonderful today.
“And is that your first or last name?”
“Our last name is Nanami.” Yuuji answered again, cutting off his father as he opened his mouth to speak. “We live in the building next door.”
“Really? So I do. I just moved in. We’re neighbors.”
“Can I come visit you?” Yuuji asked excitedly.
“Yuuji, let’s not take up any more of the lady’s time.” Nanami interjected, noticing another customer had walked in, but also slightly embarrassed at his son’s oversharing.
“You’re fine, don’t worry. We already had our big morning rush.” You leaned in closer so the young boy wouldn’t hear what you were saying. “I put a shot of espresso in your cup. It should help if you need the caffeine.”
Nanami merely stared back when you pulled back and smiled again. He didn’t know how to respond to this kindness from a total stranger. You didn’t even know him, yet you spoke and cared as if you had been acquainted for a lifetime.
“Y/N!” A voice from the kitchen yelled before Nanami could open his mouth to thank you properly. “We’re almost out of spritz cookies!”
“Coming!” You yelled back and bowed slightly to Nanami. “It was nice to meet you, Dad-san.”
You were gone before he could reply. “It’s Kento.” He murmured to himself. However, Yuuji heard him and fixed him with a frown.
“Your name is Dad.” Yuuji said resolutely.
“I had a name before you came along.”
“And now it’s Dad.”
They sat quietly finishing their drinks, Yuuji swinging his legs happily as he finished his bun and watched the people coming and going in the bakery with wide, curious eyes. Nanami tried hard not to stare at you behind the counter as you worked, but his eyes kept drifting your direction of their own volition. He’d never felt this kind of pull before. He had to be imagining it. He was being irrational.
His line of vision as he watched the door to the kitchen, waiting for you to come out again after disappearing several minutes ago, was blocked when another server came up and set a brown bag with the bakery’s logo on the table. Nanami immediately picked it up and tried to hand it back.
“We didn’t order this.” He told the teenage boy.
“They’re on the house,” was all the boy said before going back behind the counter.
Nanami looked behind the counter and saw you had appeared again, now watching them. When he caught your eye, you smiled widely and gave him a small thumbs up. Looking inside the bag, there was a pair of peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, along with the last panda bun. When he turned the bag to put it in with one of the larger shopping bags from their trip, the black ink of a marker caught his eye. Pulling the bag back out, he noticed the same neat handwriting from the display case.
‘Thanks for coming in, neighbor ^_^’
He was truly fucked.

you were never really one to believe in love, just the mere thought of falling so hard for someone making you cringe.
but despite your many efforts to block out all those confusing emotions, there was one person who just might’ve been your hardest catch yet,
song mingi
you remember the first time you walked into the small and cozy coffee shop, the smell of hot chocolate welcoming you as soon as you stepped inside. it was a quiet place that people went to either catch up with a new friend or work on things that they should’ve had done by now.
and more than often, you found yourself in the tucked-in corner next to the tinted windows, fingers grazing over the keyboard of your computer while you sipped on your coffee. which to you, meant nothing more than a late afternoon study session that had you on edge due to your professor’s late assignments that he’d sprung out of nowhere.
you found this little shop to put you at ease, which is exactly why you spent most of your free time here alone, taking in just how good it felt to let go every once and a while.
of course, you did bring a friend along with you sometimes, but they never seemed to appreciate all the little things you did.
the different kinds of people that would come and go, the way a chalkboard ran across a whole wall and people had an opportunity to write down how they were feeling that day. and one of the things you found most attractive about it here would have to be the selection of cakes and cookies they had on display at all times.
it made you feel like a kid all over again, and it didn’t help the fact that they let you taste test some of their newest additions. but that might’ve been since you’d visited them so often, which came to no one’s surprise.
but one thing you had never truly came to see, was the pair of eyes that lingered over you whenever the bell on the door would jingle at around four pm. or the small smile that painted their face when you sat down at your usual spot.
mingi had come to know you since you’d moved into the area, only ever making small talk when you ordered your usual coffee with three sugars and only a dash of creamer. it was like you made this job ten times better, but he wasn’t sure if he’d ever tell you that.
and as if you were reading his mind, the sound of a bell ran through the shop as you smiled warmly at him. he tried not to seem too happy about your presence, looking at you from the corner of his eyes to make sure you didn’t catch him checking you out.
his arm nudged san’s, nodding his head over to you so he knew to take your order. “dude, are you kidding me right now?” san said, his voice laced with amusement. “you need to talk to her, not me.”
mingi scoffed, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” but they both knew exactly what was going on, and mingi’s pride would never give in. he didn’t know what was wrong with him, he was usually the one to make the first move when it came to dating.
but there was something about you that made him shy, and he was starting to get confused about all his emotions. you were too pretty to him, and he was scared that if he said one thing to you, you would call him out and not want anything to do with him.
so he decided to do the one thing he knew he’d have a chance with; beg san to find out more information about you. though now that he thinks about it he made it easier for san to find a way to flirt with you, and that made him want to punch his best friend for even suggesting anything.
san looked at him, sighing when he saw mingi was trying to cover up how panicked he was inside. “fine, but I swear to god this is the last time.”
and so it was. mingi still remembers the way san asked you question after question, and he couldn't lie and say he didn't feel bad for bombarding you with them.
but it was worth all the cringey and awkward conversations because that night, about an hour past the whole in the wall shop closed down for the day, mingi sat across san with stars in his eyes as the older one talked to him about every he'd found out about you.
your favorite color, what you're going to college for, your hobbies, and just about everything he could fit in before heading home for the night.
it made a shy smile spread across mingi's face, and it didn't seem to leave. well, that is until he fell asleep.
but as much as he felt like he could talk about you all day, just going off of the things san said, it would make him feel even better if he'd actually be able to talk to you.
and not just from taking your order
"it's not that hard, man." he said to himself, a horrible attempt to use the small amount of courage he'd been saving up. "you've done this before, it'll be just like a walk in the park."
and now that he thinks back on the whole mess of a situation, he laughs at how shot his nerves were that day. considering where you both are today, it's like he'd been worrying over nothing.
as soon as you saw a glimpse of his red hair moving towards your direction, you felt a jolt of happiness in your body while you moved a piece of your hair out of your face.
you heard him cough, and you took that as him making you aware of his presence. "uh, it's y/n— right?" he said, his words coming out rushed even though hed told himself to be calm.
you turned your head to the side, hands playing with a napkin on the table. "yes, I am. can I help you?" you saw him shift uncomfortably onto his other leg, and he shoved his hands in his pockets while his eyes fixed on your lips.
"do you think we could hang out sometime? there's this really good italian place down that street that opened not too long ago.."
little did you know, that restaurant would end up being one of your favorites.
mingi's eyes fluttered open, taking in the light that was peeking through the curtains. he'd be freezing if it wasn't for the heavy blanket pulled over both of you, but he only really cared if you were warm enough.
it's been almost a year since you both had started dating, and if you were honest it's felt like much longer than that.
you were at the happiest point you think you'd ever been, and never in your life did you think someone like mingi would love you endlessly. it was a perfect match, and never in did it truly occur that people this perfect actually exist.
he felt your body dip into his touch, your back against his chest as he smiled warmly at you. "are you awake, baby?"
you groaned at him, not wanting to wake up just yet. his fingers traced shapes on your thighs, soon making their way up to your stomach and running over the stretch marks that lay on your skin.
"mm, mingi." your voice was low as you spoke to him, and you couldn't help the soft moan that slipped past your lips when his hand played with the hem of your underwear, teasing you.
you felt him smile against your neck, his lips soon attaching themselves to the skin below your ear and he kissed the area softly. "yes?"
without any more words, you grabbed the hand that was teasing you and pulled it up your body, slowly guiding it up your shirt and making his large hand squeeze your already hard nipple.
he caught on to what you wanted quickly, grinding into your ass while his lips and hand worked on your body slowly.
you'd always loved how his lips felt on you. whether it be on your own, your neck, or any other part you couldn't help but want more when he'd pull away.
and he knew what they did to you, which is why he always made sure to take his time kissing your body before anything else. "mingi, I need more."
a sharp gasp left you when he pushed the covers off of you both, moving to lay between your legs as he caught notice of what you were wearing.
it was one of his striped black and white shirts, only one button holding him back from adoring your body. "I don't remember saying you could use my clothes," he kissed up your stomach, "do you think I could have it back?"
you giggled, doing him a favor and slowly taking off the shirt all while keeping eye contact. he felt his cock grow harder when he saw the wet patch on your panties, and he couldn't help but spread your legs open as he layed down on his stomach.
"lay back," you did, but couldn't help and look down at him while he did what he does best.
his hands slid up and down your inner thighs, stopping once they reached the top of your underwear and pulling them down painfully slow. he'd always loved how sensitive you were, and it always made him so impatient with how wet you got when he's barely even done anything.
maybe it was because of how hard it was starting to get for him to control himself that he let himself go, or it could've been because he's always wanted to taste you, but without any warning his mouth connected with your core and he moaned into you.
"ah, fuck!" you moaned, throwing your head back as your back arched. at this point you didn't even care that your neighbors might hear you, and that thought left as soon as it came when he wrapped his arms around your legs, pushing you even harder onto his tongue.
your mouth was wide open, eyebrows furrowing when he slipped a finger in you as his lips closed around your clit, sucking on it harshly.
"so good, you taste so fucking good." his breath was hot against you, and a silent cry left your mouth when his finger curled up inside you.
you were close, and the more his movements sped up the harder it was getting for you to hold on. "mingi— I'm gonna cum-"
as soon as those words came out you regretted it, and you watched him pull away fast before leaning back on his legs.
but it's was impossible for you to get frustrated, because the view in front of you was more than enough to push you over the edge. his hand moved over the bulge in his shorts, slowly moving up and down as his head fell back.
"god, I can't wait to fuck you." his eyes roamed your body, taking in the way your hair stuck to your forehead. "hold your arms above your head, doll."
trying your hardest to ignore the slick that lined your inner thighs, your arms raised and you gripped the pillow covers while you watched him pull his shorts down.
no matter how many times you've had sex with him, his cock never fails to make your core throb with anticipation. the tip was bright red, and a vein ran from underside the base all the way to the tip. just the thought of tasting him had drool pooling in your mouth.
he took one of your legs and placed it on his shoulder, gripping your calf as he ground down into you. "you're always so good for me, and you never fail to make me weak,"
"my valentine."
he pushed in slowly, watching your every movement to make sure that you weren't in any pain. your eyes screwed shut, taking in the way he filled you up perfectly. it was like you two were made for eachother, a perfect fit.
his hips soon found a rhythm that had you both seeing stars, the only thing being heard throughout your shared apartment being your moans and his grunts along with the sound of skin on skin.
his skin was warm against yours, beads of sweat trickling down his chest and onto his abs the flexed with every thrust he gave you. "mingi, right there!"
he payed attention to the way you squeezed around him, not wanting to cum just yet and trying his hardest to feel you cum first. "you close, sweetheart?"
you nodded your head, unable to form proper words with the way his cock kept hitting your sweet spot. "f-fuck,"
your lower half felt numb except where you both met, and he dropped the leg that was on his shoulder so he could lean down and reach deeper inside you.
it was the way the tip of his cock hit your cervix multiple times that made your legs twitch, your body going numb as you came with a loud moan. it was too much for mingi to handle, and he could feel himself slip over the edge when you screamed his name.
his hips slowed down, pulling out of you and rolling on his back beside you. you were both exhausted, but as much as you wanted to snuggle into his chest and let sleep take over you, you both really needed to get cleaned up.
"I'll go turn the shower on," he said, kissing your lips and sitting up. you couldn't help but laugh at him, it was like he knew what you were thinking.
"thank you, mingi."
he could feel your eyes on him when he stood up and made his way to the bathroom, and some part of him made him feel all shy like he hadn't just ruined you five minutes earlier.
"if you keep staring at me like that, I might have to go back in for round two." he laughed out.
you giggled, pulling the blanket over your body, "happy valentine's day, baby."

How do you think the pillar men would react to a s/o who’s pretty innocent and a loveable ray of sunshine? Just the sweetest soul ever. Never having any ill intentions towards anyone ever, even if they’re mean to her. S/o has a lot of empathy and is just Disney princess level of kindness and nurturing. Sorry if that’s specific. I just always love the trope for couple that are opposites attract.
Did you mean: H O L L Y K U J O ???
Holly: Jotaro, make sure you eat all your vegetables 🥰 Jotaro: *is about to tell her to F*** off* All 4 of his new Pillarmen step-dads: 😡😡😡😡 Jotaro: *sweating* Yes Mom... 😰
I agree, dear Anon, I'm a bit of a sucker for big intimidating Pillarmen with a sweet little mate ❤❤❤ I'm even more of a sucker for writing it! 🥰😇😘 Please enjoy!
The Pillarmen (separate) with a sweet and nurturing s/o...
(Under the cut for length!)
Tumblr media
Kars:
• From the moment he first met you, your kindness was baffling to Kars.
• Even before you two had begun a proper relationship, he took notice that you were always dotting on him.
• Sometimes when he was up in his study, spending hours at his desk as he worked away at piles of paperwork, you would pop in to check up on him every so often with a mug of tea for him in hand; brewed hot and black with no sugar, just the way he liked it.
• Somehow you just always knew what he liked and how he liked it.
• You often brung along a comfortable blanket to drape over his shoulders, pressing a soft kiss to his temple as you asked him if he needed anything else and encouraged him to take a break if and when he needed it.
• Nothing prompted you do do these things, he never once asked you for anything really, but it seemed as if you went out of your way to show a little kindness every time.
• Kars knew himself to be a cold creature but you were a person who made his frosty heart thaw with the warmth you radiated.
• As a man who considered nature precious life, he found himself admiring how unbelievably good you were with Animals.
• In fact, they just seemed to flock to you!
• Once, when you both went to an Animal shelter to look for a pet to adopt, Kars turned his back for only a minute and came back to find that you had somehow coaxed the meanest and mangiest old cat there into your lap.
• The shelter workers stood there absolutely gobsmacked as they watched the animal, that had scratched and hissed at and bitten anyone and everyone who had even dared to come near it, cuddling in your arms and purring like a kitten.
• "Aren't you just the sweetest thing?~" You giggled, lovingly running a hand on the cats bristly old fur as it rumbled contently, its purr was like a running motor. "What a pretty kitty you are!"
• Kars could only smile softly to himself as you both left the shelter that day with the mean old cat you were still lovingly cradling in your arms.
• He had to admit, even though he was thousands of years old and an Ultimate lifeform; you somehow felt like you were much higher above him, like a benevolent and virtuous Queen.
Esidisi:
• Your sweet and motherly nature was the very first thing to make Esidisi absolutely head over heals for you.
• There were times you made his heart swell to the point of it hurting when he watched you waltz around the house, singing a happy tune as you did chores or cooked.
• Even though you knew he didn't necessarily need to eat, you always questioned if he was hungry and offered to make him food.
• And it was always delicious homemade food at that!
• You absolutely brought life to every room you passed through and it pulsed through everything you made.
• It was as if everything you touched left behind a little magic in his eyes.
• Once, when you two were still in the stages of getting to know one another, you happened to witness him have one of his crying fits for the first time.
• Esidisi had been very stressed that day and of course, it all overwhelmed him and came out in a flood of tears.
• Immediately, you dropped the laundry you were folding the second you heard him start to sob from the other room and ran to see what was going on.
• "Oh my goodness, what happened?" You questioned, coming towards him quickly.
• Even through his barrage of tears, he didn't miss the genuine concern in your voice and the worry etched into your face as you lowered yourself on your knees in front of him, taking his tearstreaked face gently into your hands.
• "Do you need a hug? We can hug!" You told him, opening your arms to him with no hesitation whatsoever as he struggled to get an explanation out through his bawling.
• The way you rubbed his back, crooning for him to take deep breaths, was something that would stay with him forever as usually people tended to just stand back and gawk at him when he was having a meltdown.
• You hardly even knew him and there you were, comforting him and letting him cry all over you as if you had known him your whole life!
• Each time he spent his evenings with his arms wrapped around you as you cooked supper, both of you singing, he was honestly starting to think he had fallen in love with a Goddess in disguise.
Wamuu:
• You were the only person in the world who could make Wamuu, the greatest and fiercest warrior who ever lived, turn into a shy and blushing mess.
• The way you gently touched his arm and smiled up into his face as you spoke to him, asking him if he was hungry or tired after a long day of training, never failed to make this hardened Pillarman turn to mush.
• Your voice was like music to his ears, as if your words always held a secret song.
• When you did things for him, no matter how small on your part, he could always tell it was done purely out of love.
• "I thought you would get cold going out this time of year, so I made you a scarf and mittens!" You said with a smile, presenting him with the hand-knitted treasures one cold winters day when he was getting ready to leave the house.
• Wamuu was never a person to wear clothes at all. In fact, he would never be cold or hot or uncomfortable in any climate in the slightest being an Ultimate lifeform.
• But still, he stared at the folded scarf and mitts with wide eyes, holding them in his hands like one would a baby bird.
• He had seen you knitting on the couch these past few nights, smiling softly to yourself as you hummed and put love in every stitch. He had honestly thought nothing of it at the time but now it all made sense.
• You had spent all your free time making these... just for him?
• From that moment on, whenever he and the other Pillarmen went outside in the snow (doing God-knows-what), you can bet that he was wearing that scarf and mittens.
• With nothing else but his loincloth, of course.
• When the others questioned him as to why he was wearing such ridiculous attire when he had no need for them, he simply stood there with his head held high; his scarf swaying in the wind as he clenched his mittened hands into fists at his sides.
• "With all due respect my Masters; my beloved bride made these for me." He said calmly, the corners of his lips quirking into a soft smile as their expressions morphed into ones of disbelief. "And believe me when I say that I cherish them as much as I cherish her."
• The warrior actually felt a little boost in his pride seeing the little gleam of jealousy in his companions' eyes at his words.
• It only fed his little ego more when he showed up one day with a new knitted hat with a fuzzy pom-pom on top and Esidisi actually cried and asked if you could make one for him too.
Santana:
• Santana had always rightfully believed that all Humans were the same; loud, annoying, primitive, cruel, dangerous...
• That was until he fell in love with you of course.
• You were a kind of Human he wasn't aware existed, a very soft and loving kind.
• You just seemed to radiate feelings that touched his very soul; like a bouncy ball of sunshine.
• If anyone had ever done something even borderline disrespectful to Santana, he wouldn't put hesitate them in their rightful place (in his stomach that was) but you on the other hand; you always brushed any rude behavior from another off with a smile.
• Always curious, Santana often found himself hanging around in the background, watching you carry out your housework routine.
• You didn't mind this of course, you always assured him that you liked his company.
• Sometimes you even lovingly referred to him as your shadow.
• "Would you like to help, Santana sweetie?" You asked him with a smile as you peered over your shoulder; you were rolling out and cutting homemade cookie dough to bake.
• He noticed you were always so patient, praising him for the littlest things; guiding his hands with the rolling pin, showing him how to flour the cutter and carefully peel away the outline of the shapes.
• "A star for my star," you beamed, holding up a warm star shaped sugar cookie for him to take when you had pulled them from the oven.
• He blinked as you waved the freshly baked cookie in his face, taking it carefully.
• A little smile curled around the pastry when you pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, thanking him for his help.
• You and only you could make him feel tingles from the insides out.
• One of his most favourite routines with you was when you sat on the couch on your phone or watching T.V at night; where you'd invite him to lay his head in your lap.
• Your melodic voice could only be compared to a Princess', your little fingers combing out the tangles of his thick red hair as you hummed to him or talked to him about his day before he was lulled to sleep by it all.
• Your sweetness, your warmth, your empathy; it gave him a hope for Humanity he never had before he met you...

More Crafting dead headcanons! Because I want to find other people who also enjoy this series
Nick when he was settled in the CDC his room was absolutely DECORATED with things like dinosaur bones he ‘borrowed’ from museums- (his exact words are ‘no one’s looking at them anymore- so why not?)
He also love collecting any books he can find- so his shelves are covered in random colors because their all different books all jumped together. He tries to keep ‘em in rainbow order though-
Nick also likes to collect random things from places he’s been. Shells, rocks, interestingly shaped sticks, markers- and maybe a few dragon figures here and there.
Nick also enjoys drawing and has quite the stack of sketchbooks sat on top of his desk. He even has some from before the apocalypse- one of the only connections he has to his past.
Nick and Ak get into types of spicy food contests, ones where they both save up a lot of spicy foods and one day they eat as much as they can, and the first person to drink the milk in-front of them losses.
Ghetto- Ghetto actually is really good with growing things, and even has a small window garden growing in his room. (Possibly even a peach tree)
He also is a good cook, and when it was just him and Nick he use to be the one doing most of the cooking.
Ghetto does have marshmallows but he keeps them hidden away so Nick doesn’t go through his stuff to find them.
Before the apocalypse Ghetto worked for a animal shelter and cared for many MANY different animals, when the apocalypse started he stayed in the shelter for days to care for the creatures before he released the few that where left and then went out. Where he ran into Nick on the corner.
Ghetto doesn’t really enjoy horror related things…but he’d let Ak and Nick tell him about whatever Horror stories they could come up with. Nicks stories seemed to somehow be scarier though.
Shark- Sharks eyes are sensitive to the light, so he wears sub glasses to protect them from the light. Only usually having the sun glasses off at night or when sleeping.
Shark also has a dog, his name is Shakespeare and he mostly wonders around the CDC. Since it’s a big place no one minds it if a few pets wonder the inside
Shark keeps journals, he started keeping them ever since the start of the apocalypse started. He doesn’t let anyone read them though…not unless he wants them to know that he use to be a bandit.
Ak- Ak has scars all over his face, but the worst ones are on his face. So to cover this up he wears a small gas mask he had found and wears it all the time. He’s only ever taken it off around Nick, Ghetto, and Shark. Showing them how much he truly trusted them.
Ak is actually very sweet with kids, and he use to be Jordens baby sitter. The reason why he took Jordan from Nick and Ghetto. Trying to protect Jordan from what he thought where bandits.
Ak enjoys writing, surprisingly- and has books upon books of stories he’s made, he mostly lets the others of the group read them. (Heck no one’s around to publish them anymore- so why not?) And they all love the stories he makes! They even say he’s like their own personal author.
Ak absolutely cannot eat anything sweet without feeling sick. The only sugar he’s even able to eat would be cookies but that’s basically it-

A Mistletoe Kiss- TOS Bones x Reader
Plot: You, Bones, A Christmas Ball, and mistletoe (7 Days til Christmas)
Words: 915
A/N: ALRIGHT HERE WE GO!!! Yeehaw! And also the only gif I can find of De in a tux is from Variety Girl but we can imagine, right? Also the gif isn't mine, I forgot where I found it
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
~
Uhura and Christine watched as you twirled around in your red and green gown. They both said that it was an early Christmas present for the Starfleet Christmas Ball.
"You look stunning, (Y/N)," Uhura complimented while Christine nodded.
"Do you have a date?" Christine asked making you frown.
"No, I couldn't find one. Everyone was taken," you sighed as you sat down on a chair.
"Everyone was taken or were you scared to ask?" Uhura teased, "Because I know Doctor Mc-"
"Oh, look at the time," you said quickly with a blush, "I gotta go. Will I see you down there?"
"Maybe, maybe not," Christine said with a shrug and a smirk.
~
The place where the ball was being held was decked out in silver, gold, red, and green decorations. Women were in beautiful gowns and instead of the men wearing their dress uniform, they were wearing tuxes and some of them had holly pinned to their breast.
People watched as you made your way through the crowd, you didn't show up to every ball Starfleet had so you looked different out of uniform.
"(Y/N), may I say you look stunning," Chekov complimented, making you smile.
"Thanks, it has pockets!" You said cheerfully as you shoved your hands into the pockets, making the boy laugh.
"So, where's your date?"
"I couldn't find one, where's yours?"
"Over at the punch table. Y'know I heard Doctor McCoy was here and he also couldn't find a date."
You laughed nervously. "I don't think he'd take me."
"Don't be silly. At least ask for a dance or even a drink. A lot can be revealed with just a drink or with one of those Christmas cookies."
You couldn't help but laugh, "Alright, alright, I'll take your advice, Chekov. If it doesn't work out-"
"Yes, yes, I know, you'll won't let me into your vodka cabinet. Now go and talk to Doctor McCoy or I'll shove you over there myself."
"Aye, aye, sir," you saluted before taking off. You didn't know if you were actually going to find Bones, you were just walking around trying to do something. Once you gave up and went outside and sat underneath an arbor bench.
"I think a little snow would make this night perfect, wouldn't you?"
You looked up and saw Bones holding a napkin with two sugar cookies on it. He was one of the many wearing holly.
"Yeah, too bad we're in San Francisco, but at least it's good to be home."
"Mind if I sit?"
You scooted over and he sat next to you. It was a decent size bench so you both had enough personal room. He sat the cookies between the two of you.
"You look lovely tonight, (Y/N)," Bones complimented, making you blush.
"You look handsome as well, Bones."
"Have a cookie, a little Russian bird told me to have one."
"Did the bird also say a lot can be revealed with a Christmas cookie or a drink?" You asked while taking the cookie shaped like a Christmas tree.
"As a matter of fact, yes," Bones stated, making you laugh.
"Damn, he's never getting into my vodka cabinet now."
You both sat there in comfortable silence as you stared out into space.
"There's mistletoe above us," he pointed out, making you look up.
He was right, there was a bushel of mistletoe waiting its next unsuspecting couple to fall under its spell. Sadly, you two were next.
"O-oh?"
"I mean if you don't want to," he stated quickly, a light blush appearing on his cheeks.
"No, I mean it's tradition and there's rules that apply with Christmas traditions like always hang your stocking by the fire place and leave oats for the reindeer or you're only allowed to have one early Christ-"
You felt his lips press against yours. He smelled like old cologne, frosting, and whiskey. Maybe he had a hand in helping make all the cookies. You grabbed the wings of his jacket and brough him closer to you.
"Was that to shut me up or were you trying to make a move?" You asked while finally pulling away.
"Now why would I want you to shut up?"
"Right, making a move," you noted while wiping the corner of your mouth, making sure there wasn't any smudged lipstick.
"How about we go back in? Kirk's probably freaking out since I'm not in there. He probably think I ran off with you."
You heard giggles nearby and you looked. There stood Kirk, Uhura, Chekov, Christine, and Spock (who looked rather annoyed and was probably dragged along against his will) spying on you and Bones.
"Yeah, I think we should go back inside, see what the others are doing!" You said loudly, making the others knew that you knew they were there and they automatically took off.
"They gone?" He whispered, making you nod. "Good, I had a feeling they were there. I couldn't get Kirk to shut up at one point."
"And you know we're never gonna hear the end of it once we return to the Enterprise either. Might as well prepare ourselves for what's to come," you giggled as you stood up but Bones quickly grabbed your hand.
"Hold on a minute," he said while taking the the holly from his jacket and tucked it behind your ear. His hand cupped your face for a few seconds as he smiled at you.
"Merry Christmas," he said softly.
"Merry Christmas, Bones."

The Christmas Cookie War
A Connor Kenway x Reader One-Shot
Word Count: 1,720 Warnings: None
Author’s Note: Aye! Day 14 of the Christmas fics! Bake some cookies this season! -Thorne
Connor was sneaky. Which was good when it came to his career as an Assassin. On the rare times that she’d actually seen him in action, she was utterly blown away at how such a heavily built person could move with such stillness. She’d watched him take down every soldier in the fort within minutes, and not a single alarm bell had been rung, nor did any soldier see or hear him coming—he was a master hunter, and she was proud that he used his skills for the better. That being said, Connor had a streak of using his skills for the worse.
***
She glared at him for what seemed like the millionth time and pointed to the doorway.
“Out with you,” she commanded. “You’re not allowed to put one foot in this kitchen until I tell you to.”
Connor shifted his weight between his feet, standing just outside the entrance to the kitchen. “But (Y/N),” he whined. “The cookies.” His eyes shifted to the tray she was about to put on the rack at the fireplace.
Shaking her head, she denounced, “But nothing, Ratonhnhaké:ton. If everyone else has to wait for the cookies to be made, baked, and cooled, then so do you.”
She narrowed her gaze and shoved the wooden spoon in his face. “If I catch you in here again, I will welt your hands black and blue.”
He met her stare head-on and she could see him internally mulling the pros and cons over before his amber eyes flashed with indignation, and she knew he was taking it as a personal challenge.
Connor conceded and tipped his head down. “As you wish, (Y/N).” He stood back up and asked, “Is there anything I can do for you in the meantime?”
Huffing, she remarked “I know what you’re doing Ratonhnhaké:ton.” She spun on her heel and marched over to the table. “Please take this in the nicest way possible, my beloved,” (Y/N) met his gaze and hissed, “Get lost.”
A growl sounded from his throat, but he turned and stalked off, the door slamming, signaling his exit. With satisfaction, she turned back to the bowl of flour on the first side table, watching as he walked past the window outside, glaring at her; she stuck her tongue out at him. Let the games begin.
***
The entire house smelled like one giant, mouthwatering concoction of every dessert ever made, and on more than one occasion, Achilles had drifted in to see what she was making for the Christmas party. Happy knowing that it all smelled wonderful, she’d showed him the trays of cookies and pies, managing to ease his dislike of the giant mess along the table with a promise of cleaning later. He complimented her on the outcomes of each dessert, especially the chocolate chip snickerdoodles she’d made—which also happened to be the cookies that Connor was hellbent on snatching from her.
Achilles wiped his mouth on the handkerchief he carried and nodded his head. “Those are excellent, (Y/N). Sweet, but not overpoweringly so.”
A warmth grew on her cheeks at the praise, because she knew that the old man wasn’t one to give it unless truly deserved—and even then, it was hard to get it out of him.
“Thank you, Achilles.” She murmured, turning her gaze to the crackling fireplace, a tray of apple pies baking to perfection.
“Has Connor come in yet?” he asked, humor in his tone.
(Y/N) tossed a glare over her shoulder. “Oh, he definitely has. Twice.” She scanned the kitchen, craning her neck to see into the dining room—he wasn’t in there. “I’m waiting for him to try again.”
The old man leaned on his cane, umber eyes regarding her with an amusing look. “You think he will?”
She scoffed and flattened the dough with a rolling pin. “I’d bet my last pound he will. The only thing bigger than his heart is his sweet tooth.” She paused and pointed the pin at him. “Mark my words, he’ll die by sugar coma if he doesn’t keel over of old age first.”
Achilles simply snorted and the rapping of his cane against the hardwood floor left her alone in the kitchen.
(Y/N) grabbed one of the cookie cutters and began cutting out the shapes of little men. With a smile, she placed them on the tray and switched them out for the pies that were done. Setting the pies aside, she swiftly turned and looked around, eyes narrowing with suspicion.
She grabbed the wooden spoon and walked to the entrance of the kitchen, sticking her head into the entryway. It was clear, and a quick glance to the hallway showed a spotless center as well—still, it didn’t ease the wariness and she moved back into the kitchen.
“I know you’re in here, Ratonhnhaké:ton.” (Y/N) walked to the dining room. “Let me catch you with a cookie,” she warned. “I’ll break a finger.”
Grabbing the handles of the dining room doors, she swung them shut and with a click, she locked the doors. Only one way in and out. She thought with a smug smile.
Though something felt off, she set the feeling aside and focused on the rest of the desserts, knowing that she had only a couple more hours until the Christmas party—she had to finish early.
As she passed by the clothed table, she paused and scanned the surface, satisfied that nothing had been touched. (Y/N) yanked the cookbook over to her and leaned over, reading over the recipe.
“Now let’s see…what were those treats that Father Timothy wanted?” she ran a finger down the page. “Sugar plums! That was it.” Her eyes drifted around the kitchen. “Do we even have any plums?”
Frowning, she checked the baskets in the corner of the kitchen, standing on her tippytoes as she looked in. She rummaged around a bit, then smiled as she found a bag of them.
“Here we go—” a thump sounded behind her and she whirled around, surveying the kitchen. She ran to the table and examined each tray until she came across the chocolate chip snickerdoodles—one of them was gone.
A growl escaped her, and she ran to the entryway, glancing in both directions. “Where are you!” she yelled. “I know you were in here!” (Y/N) ran through the hall to Achilles’s study, glowering inside.
The old man cocked a salt and pepper brow at her, but said nothing and she turned, sprinting up the stairs to check the bedrooms and galleries. Still, they were empty, and by the time she returned to the kitchen, she was about to tear her hair out. (Y/N) made thirty of those cookies—eight were missing.
“Ratonhnhaké:ton!” she screeched. “When I get my hands on you, I’m gonna—I’m gonna—I’m—ARGH!” Snarling, she slammed her heel into the ground. “I am going to make you a sorry man.”
(Y/N) sat down at the table and put her head in her hands, silently simmering with unbridled rage. Impulsively, she kicked out her legs and upon feeling her foot brush something she went still, suddenly calm.
She placed her hands flat on the table and seethed, “Are you underneath this table?”
A moment of silence passed, then she heard a quiet, “I love you, (Y/N).”
She leaned down and raised the tablecloth, staring into Connor’s wide eyes. The smile she gave him sent shivers up his spine and warning bells in his brain.
“I love you too, Ratonhnhaké:ton,” she said sweetly.
He swallowed thickly. “You—you do?” he questioned warily.
(Y/N) nodded. “I do.” Her face contorted from the kindness he loved to a wrath he’d never seen before nor wanted to see again. “But you have five seconds to run or I’m—”
She didn’t even get to finish her threat and he was scrambling madly from beneath the table, her clambering off the bench after him. She’d never heard Connor scream before, but the howl of terror that left him as he sprinted from the kitchen to the stairs told her he was in a state of pure fear.
           “COME BACK HERE!” she fumed.
Connor gave a cry as he stood behind the stair railings, her glowering at him from the top step. “FORGIVE ME (Y/N)!”
If she’d been a cat, she would’ve hissed at him. “I’m gonna forgive you when I kick your butt!” As she set foot on the second floor, he turned on his heel and leaped over the railing to the back door.
(Y/N)’s eyes went wide, and she ran to the railing, staring down at him. “Don’t you dare,” she growled, and he smirked at her before disappearing into the kitchen, returning moments later with the tray of cookies.
“Put. Those. Back.” She demanded and he raised one to his mouth and took a bite.
“You have outdone yourself Otsi’tsa. They taste fantastic.” He replied before shoving the rest of the cookie into his mouth and fumbling behind him for the doorknob.
She glared at him as he pulled the door open and started backwards outside. “You’re a dead man when you come back tonight.”
Connor shrugged. “I have lived off the land all my life.” He met her gaze and retorted, “Who says I cannot do it tonight?”
(Y/N) placed her hands on the railings and leaned over. “Oh beloved, you’re gonna be doing it for a week after this little stunt.”
           “We shall see,” he winked.
Sensing that her threats were falling on deaf ears, she stood straight and glared down her nose at him. “Come back tonight then. I dare you.” Connor chuckled and disappeared outside, leaving her to fume.
A silence entered the manor, then she heard from the stairwell, “That was your fault for not checking under the table.” Her face pinched at Achilles’s quip, then a devious idea came across her.
“Achilles, do we have any beet roots?” she asked.
“Probably in the baskets.” He went quiet. “Why?”
His question was hesitant and (Y/N) grinned evilly. “Rule number one of starting a war, Achilles. Don’t leave your gear where the enemy can find it.”
She walked down the stairs and smiled at him. “I think Ratonhnhaké:ton will look absolutely wonderful in pink robes, don’t you agree?” He simply sighed in return.

Peter’s Emergency Contact
Summary: Peter meets the Avengers. It doesn’t go well.
A/N: I’m a terrible person tell me to finish my wips. Also I’m sorry about May :(
P.s. it’s been a long time since I picked this fic up so there are some continuum issues, please forgive me.
Part1/ Part2/ Part3/ Part 4
Part 4
Putting it mildly, Peter was fucking bored. It was summer, but both Ned and MJ were on vacation with their families. And on top of that, it was way too hot to go out and do anything, including patrol. He was, however, on stand by if Karen came through with anything that required Spider-Man’s assistance.
A few floors down, the ex-Rogue Avengers were doing god knows what. They had been pardoned a month earlier and moved back into the tower. Peter had yet to meet them, though Tony seemed okay with them. But Peter didn’t really trust them.
Well, okay. He more-so didn’t trust Steve. Even though the others fought against Tony too, it was Steve that scared Tony. Peter noticed minute things that Tony would do whenever the Captain was mentioned. He’d fidget, or grab his left wrist, or rub his chest, or bite the inside of his cheek. Mostly stuff that would fly past most people.
But Peter wasn’t ‘most people’. Officially, Peter was Tony’s child. After a car accident killed May about eight months prior, Tony legally adopted Peter. Since then, Peter has learned all of Tony’s tells. Wanting to get to the bottom of these anxious ticks, Peter hacked his way around FRIDAY’s systems to figure out what had happened.
Peter wasn’t one to give into rage, but that day he spent a majority of his time in the gym or swinging through the city because he was basically vibrating from the emotion.
But they lived in the same tower, and maybe Peter was desperate for something to do, so he decided to head down to the common room where FRIDAY had informed him that a few of the Avengers were hanging out.
The elevator dinged and Peter walked out to the sight of… Christmas decorations?
“What the…” He breathed, looking around the room.
“You’re not Stark,” Natasha said, suddenly appearing in front of Peter.
Peter had to literally fight down his fanboy excitement to greet the literal Black Widow!
“Uh, no. I mean, technically I am but-”
“You’re Peter, right?” Was that a smirk? Peter couldn't tell.
“Uh, y-yeah. How-?”
“I have my ways of finding things out,” Okay, now that was a smile, “I haven’t told anyone though. So you’ll have to introduce yourself to them.” She said as she tossed her head to the side, motioning to the others on the floor.
“Oh, right.”
Peter followed Natasha farther into the room, gaining the attention of the rest of the crew including Wanda Maximoff, Vision (who Peter had actually met before), Clint Barton, Sam Wilson, and Bruce (who Peter had also met before as he and Thor showed up about two months after May’s death).
“Uh, who’s the child, Nat?” Clint asked, sitting on the kitchen island.
Natasha looked at Peter, who began picking at the hem of his shirt. A nervous tick of his own.
“Uh, hi, Mister Barton. I’m Peter. Uh, Peter Parker. Or, Peter Parker-Stark now I guess? I’m-”
“Wait, excuse me, Parker-Stark? Since when the hell did Stark have a child?” Sam cut in.
“Let him finish,” Wanda berated the man, who seemed to currently be baking cookies, “Go on,” She said to the other teenager in the room, smiling kindly.
“Right, so uh, Tony hired me as his personal intern like two years ago, and we got pretty close. My aunt died last December and since she was my last family, Tony took me in and adopted me.” Immediately after mentioning his aunt’s death, almost everyone in the room looked at him with pity.
“I’m sorry kid,” That was Clint again, “Life sucks sometimes.”
“I’m adjusting,” Peter replied, but he quickly changed the subject, “Why are you decorating for Christmas? It’s almost a hundred degrees outside, not to mention it’s July.”
“Ah, that was my idea!” Sam called from the kitchen where he was currently pulling cookies out of the oven, “Since we’re on house arrest until further notice, I thought we could entertain ourselves with Christmas in July. It’s something we used to do when I was younger.”
“Oh, that sounds fun!”
“You’re welcome to join, kid.” Bruce called from his spot on the couch.
“Really? Thanks guys!” Peter jumped onto a seat at the island.
“Have a cookie, man.” Sam said, holding out a plate of santa shaped sugar cookies.
“Aw sweet!” The boy grabbed one and took a bite, “Thanks!”
About fifteen minutes passed by when Peter’s senses upped a few notches.
“Any cookies left, Sam?”
Peter nearly choked on his current cookie and jumped up to see Steve Rogers walking out of the elevator.
“Yep, a few plates full. There’s sugar, gingerbread, and chocolate chip.”
A few seconds passed before the super soldier noticed Peter.
“Um, hello. I’m Steve, you are?” He offered a hand for Peter to shake.
Peter tried to respond, but the room suddenly began spinning. He gripped onto the counter to steady himself.
“Son?” Steve asked.
“Don’ call me tha’,” Peter tried to glare, but he wasn’t even sure he was controlling his face properly.
Out of nowhere his legs gave out, and black began overtaking his vision.
A chorus of exclamations rang out as everyone ran over to tend to the boy. Fortunately and unfortunately, Steve was the closest and was the one to grab Peter before he hit the ground.
“No! Let me go!” He struggled against Steve’s arms to no avail.
“Calm down, son, I’m just-”
“What happened?” Bruce asked, feeling for Peter’s pulse.
“He just collapsed.” Sam answered.
Then Peter began seizing.
“Fuck, Sam, start a timer to time the seizure. Steve, pick him up and bring him to the medbay with me. Natasha, call Tony.”
“Why are we calling Tony?” Steve asked, following Bruce into the elevator.
It was silent for a moment where Bruce and Nat exchanged glances before Bruce answered, “He’s Tony’s kid.”
“Since when-”
“Later Steve. One thing at a time.”
***
“This better be important. Like, life or death because you pulled me out of a meeting and Pepper-”
“Shut up, Stark. Something is wrong with Peter.”
Tony was quiet for a moment before growling back, “Explain, Romanoff. Now.”
“I don’t know, Tony. He came down and introduced himself and was hanging out with us when he just collapsed and started seizing. We’re taking him to the medbay now-”
“Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. I’m in DC. I’ll have to come back with the suit but it’ll still take me an hour.”
“What do you want me to-”
“Do not let him out of your sight, Nat. I don’t want him waking up alone and you and Bruce are the only two I trust enough to watch him. Keep me updated, I’ll let you know when I’m there.”
“Got it.”
***
“He’s showing symptoms of anaphylactic shock,” Bruce said to the other two occupants after injecting Peter with an anticonvulsant, “ FRIDAY, is Peter allergic to anything? Override code six one three three nine seven five.”
“Peter is allergic to peppermint, and as well has severe reactions when in close vicinity to insect repellents.”
“Was there peppermint in Sam’s cookies?”
“One moment, Doctor Banner.” A few seconds passed before the AI came back with an answer, “Mister Wilson has supplied that the sugar cookies had peppermint extract in them.”
“Peter had several of those,” Nat said quietly.
“Okay, okay at least I can work with that. Steve,” Bruce called to the soldier while pulling out an epinephrine pen, “I think it’d be better if you waited with everyone else. Thank you for helping.”
Steve wanted to argue, but he looked at Nat who seemed to agree with Bruce.
“Okay. Let me know if you need anything else.” He offered before walking out the door.
As soon as the door shut behind him Nat spoke, “If Peter hadn’t accidentally poisoned himself I’m pretty sure he would have punched Steve.”
Bruce finished injecting the medicine and pulled the pen away from Peter’s thigh, “He still might.”
Natasha helped Bruce fix an IV drip in Peter’s arm in silence.
“You don’t have to stay, I can watch him until Tony gets here.” Bruce offered.
“He won’t be here for another forty five minutes. Plus, I’m supposed to keep watch. Stark’s orders.”
Bruce nodded in understanding, “His vitals are starting to return to normal. I’ll go update the others.”
“I’ll call Tony.”
***
Peter felt like he’d been hit by a train.
Had he?
Honestly he couldn’t remember what had happened. He opened his eyes to see Tony next to his bed (why was he in the medbay?) talking to someone on the other side of his bed. Soon his ears stopped ringing and he heard another hushed voice. Probably whoever Tony was talking to. Why did Tony look upset?
Peter turned his head to see Steve standing there.
And
What?
Without really having his wits about him yet, Peter jumped up and shoved the man back, pulling and knocking over his IV stand in the process.
“Woah, Pete! Calm down-”
“What? You didn’t get to kill him in Siberia so you thought you’d come and finish the job while I’m out?” Peter practically snarled.
Steve’s eyes blew wide, shock and shame overtaking his features, “Son, I-”
“And stop calling me that!” Peter shoved again, sending the captain into the wall, leaving a sizable crack.
“Peter!” Tony yelled, grabbing at the kid’s arm, “Calm down, bud. He’s not here to hurt me, or you for that matter. Can you please sit back down before you give me another damn heart attack?”
Peter obliged but his eyes never left Steve, who looked to be in too much of shock to really say anything.
“Cap, let the team know he’s awake, will ya?” It really wasn’t a suggestion or a question, more like a thinly veiled disguise to get him out of the room before Peter decided he hadn’t had enough.
Nodding, Steve hightailed it out of the room, but not before looking back at Peter and offering a quick apology.
It was quiet for a few moments, in which time Tony set the IV stand back up and made sure Peter’s IV was still in place. Finally the older man spoke, “Pete, buddy, what was all that about? How do you know what happened in Siberia?”
Peter’s demeanor fell slightly as he came back to himself, “Wasn’t hard to guess.”
“Mhmm. Wanna try again? Maybe with the truth this time?” Tony said as he sat back down next to his kid.
Peter crossed his arms and looked down at the floor.
“I hacked FRIDAY,” He mumbled.
“I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” Tony asked.
Peter sighed audibly before repeating himself, louder this time, “I hacked FRIDAY.”
“Why would you do that?”
“Because you were beat up and withdrawn after we got back from Germany. Which, okay, fine. We weren’t in a place for you to tell me what happened. But then the pardon for them was beginning to go through and every time Steve was even mentioned, you had these reactions like you were nervous or something. And I wanted to know why. I already had a pretty good idea. Then I saw the footage and I just… I don’t want him near you..”
“Peter, buddy. Look at me, please,” Tony gently held the boy’s chin and turned his head so that he looked at Tony, “Thank you for looking out for me. But that’s not your responsibility,”
“Yes it is! I can’t-” His throat catches and a lump forms, tears making their way to the surface, “I’ve lost everyone because I couldn’t protect them. I can’t lose you too.”
Tony pulls Peter in for a hug, and cards his fingers through the kid’s curls, “It’s okay to cry, honey. But I’m not going anywhere. Remember that. The universe will have to personally fight me before I let anything get between us. Understood?” Peter nodded slightly, but clung to his father’s shirt as he cried.
Eventually Peter fell asleep in Tony’s arms.
“I love you, kid. I’m not going anywhere.” Tony whispered, placing a kiss on top of the curls on his kid’s head.
And yes. Peter did end up punching Captain America. We don’t bring that up.

“How long will you be gone?”
“A few weeks. We should be back before December 21st.”
(Y/N) huffed, that was almost two weeks, plus the holidays were coming up. “Stay safe, okay? All I want for Christmas is you.”
Warren rolled his eyes and kissed her forehead, “I already got you a gift.”
(Y/N) thanked him and he just held her tighter.
-
Warren went on a mission with Raven, Alex, Kurt, Ororo, and Jean. They were going to Italy to stop some mafia mutant issue. “Which is stupid,” Scott retorted. “We live in New York. Surely the mafia isn’t only terrorizing mutants in Italy.”
(Y/N) shrugged, “Probably.”
Her mind wandered as Jubilee talked to Scott about their final for Dr. McCoy. I need to water the plants in the greenhouse. (Y/N) yawned, she felt a sudden wave of drowse come over herself. I’ve been so tired lately…
It wasn’t a mystery why (Y/N) had been so tired lately. It was because of the weather. The earlier it got dark, the less energy she had— and with it getting colder, her abilities were limited. Most of the plants in her room had gone dormant. (Y/N) was worried she would too, but it hadn’t gotten cold enough.
“I think we should go skating tomorrow,” Jubilee suggested.
“Just the four of us?” Peter asked.
“Do you see anyone else? They’re all in Italy.” Peter squinted his eyes at Jubilee as she was sarcastic. “The rink is open, it’s December, and I’m bored! I wanna pick up cute girls.”
“Isn’t ice skating like a go-to in Hallmark Christmas movies?” Scott asked.
“Why do you know that?” Jubilee asked.
“We watch those all the time on nights with the boys,” Peter explained. “They’re awful and all the same. There was one where a girl was in love with a ghost and another where a girl texted her dead mom to grieve… I’m so lucky I don’t celebrate Christmas.”
(Y/N) laughed, hallmark Christmas films were pretty cheesy and cliche.
“I mean yeah, you’re right, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go skating, or do something. Everyone is gone and we need to stay active.”
Peter and Scott both looked at Jubilee with confusion. “But we’re all in pretty good shape.”
“No, I mean (Y/N),” She whispered to the boys.
“What’s wrong with her? She looks fine.” Scott said, quickly checking her out as she was preoccupied with her phone.
“Around winter, she tends to get weaker cause it’s colder and the sun goes down earlier…”
“Yeah… We know…”
“No, you guys don’t get it. During the winter plants go into like, hibernation— and if it gets too cold and (Y/N) falls asleep she’ll go dormant. The only safe places are her room and an area set up in the lab.”
“We have to keep her awake all winter?” Peter asked curiously.
“No, we just have to make sure she only falls asleep in her bedroom and stays there. It’s the only ace place because it’s like a greenhouse sort of…”
“What happens if we don’t?...”
“She could die!”
“Who could die?” (Y/N) asked.
“Scarlett Johanson’s stunt-double. I mean have you seen the new Black Widow trailer?” Jubilee asked without missing a beat.
“Eh, I dunno. She’s a professional, plus stunt-doubles are kind of expected to get hurt… while it’s not preferable an innocent gets hurt,... they did sign up for it.”
“I never thought of it like that…” Scott said almost seeing off-handed while trying to noticeably glare at Jubilee.
“Well, I’ve got to go. I promised Catherine I’d help make gingerbread cookies.” Everyone wished (Y/N) some form of goodbye, or have fun, leaving them alone.
“(Y/N) is going to die?!” Peter almost screamed.
“No! No, no— (Y/N) is not going to die. She’s done this longer than I’ve known her. I think she was like, thirteen when these first started happening. I didn’t know (Y/N) until we were 15, but still.” Jubilee continued on,  “She’ll either pass out randomly in the middle of December or January and hibernate until March or April, or she won’t go dormant and just have to spend most of the spring outside, like soaking up the sunshine or whatever. “
“Oh, okay. So this is normal. Great. (Y/N) might fucking die every winter and we just have to act like children on thin ice? Deal with it somehow?” Peter looked like he was freaking out.
“I said she’s been doing this for years, plus she hasn’t died yet. We’ll be fine.”
Scott’s gut was telling him something different, but he blamed that on his constant anxiety.
-
Five days after Warren left
(Y/N), Scott, Peter, and Jubilee all went ice skating. Jubilee and Peter attempted to spy on cute girls, while Scott tried to act perfect, and (Y/N) tried her best to not lean against the wall too much. It was fun, but indoor rinks are as cold as the outside ones. (Y/N) bundled up enough, but she still got chills.
Scott took everyone to some artsy coffee shop that Jean adored. He claimed they had a killer hot chocolate. Jubilee already tried it once before, being Jean’s best friend/roommate. Peter thought it was kind of watery and not that great, and (Y/N) didn’t think it was bad but…
“You overhyped it. It’s good though.” Scott pouted, and Peter laughed through Twinkie bites and hot chocolate sips. (Y/N) felt warm and fuzzy inside. Almost… sleepy…
Her mind started to drift… Warren… everything they’d do when he got back from Italy…
Their first winter holiday together… all the shitty hallmark movies we can watch with Scott and Peter… the—
“(Y/N)!”
“Huh?!” She rubbed her eyes and tried to seem awake. “What is it?”
“You were dozing off there,” Scott pointed out.
“Oh.” She scratched her head. “Sorry. Haha,” Her laugh was somewhat sarcastic. “Just don’t let me, uh… Don’t let me pass out. Wouldn’t wanna get nicknamed Sleeping Beauty.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Peter joked.
-
Nine days after Warren left
Peter taught everyone, or attempted to, teach everyone how to make a seven-layered cake. Jubilee and Scott kept sneaking batter, while (Y/N) was struggling to not use her powers.
“Okay, but like, I could get sugar from a plant or—“
“No!” Jubilee protested, batter on the corner of her mouth. “We— we have all these ingredients here. Why waste them?”
(Y/N) squinted her eyes, they were a bit purple, but she let it slide and grabbed sugar and other dry ingredients from the cabinets.
“If she uses too much strength she could pass out. It’s been snowing hard for the past two days, and it’s been cloudy all week.”
“Can’t she eat a protein bar or drink some coffee or something?” Peter whispered.
Jubilee shook her head, “No, she needs vitamin D. Like, from the sun. More than a normal person does.”
(Y/N) set the sugar on the counter and looked at the recipe from Peter’s mom, reading bits out loud, “We need 2 and 1⁄4 cups of sugar.” She looked at the measuring cups, trying to find the one she needed.
“Hey, Scott! We agreed no phones out,” Jubilee scolded him.
He rolled his eyes, “You sound like a teacher… I was just checking a package I ordered…”
“If you actually bought that $200 lightsaber you were telling me about,” (Y/N) joked, “I will scream.”
Peter scoffed, “Please, Jean got him that for Christmas.” His face fell soon as the words left his mouth. “Shit…”
“No, she didn’t. We had a budget and—“ Jubilee and Peter both looked at their feet, eyes wide and sheepish. “I am not worth $200.”
“You sound like Warren,” Jubilee complained, cracking eggs into a separate bowl.
“It’s true! I don’t want her to spend money on me.” He glanced at his phone again.
“She’s not going to text you. No one is allowed to bring phones on missions, because the government can like, track you and shit.” Peter reminded him.
“I know, I know… but what if something happened? What if someone died or they got stuck and stranded and—“
(Y/N) put a hand on Scott’s shoulder, “Calm down Romeo. They’re going to be fine. If something happens, Xavier will let us know.” Scott nodded, trying to believe (Y/N) was right.
-
Fifteen Days after Warren left
(Y/N) was getting sick and tired. Tired of her friends never leaving her alone, the panic on their faces if she so much as yawned or rubbed her eyes, she was sick of them being so nervous. More so Scott and Peter than Jubilee.
Of course, they meant well, and just wanted to make sure she didn’t fall into a coma, but she didn’t need to be doted over like a tropical plant lost in the arctic.
(Y/N) huffed as she messed with her hair in the bathroom mirror. Her leaves looked less colorful, more brown and dead, the vines around her legs were gone, and her eyes looked like she hadn’t been sleeping. She had, but it was hard, the sun went down at 5 PM, and it was cloudy and cold every day it seemed.
I just want Warren here. He’d make everything better. We could cuddle and nap together…
(Y/N)’s turned blue and red as she stopped daydreaming and ran her toothbrush underwater.
By nature, (Y/N) was not a gossip girl or a secret keeper— people saw her as a Disney princess, a few of the younger students even called her “Mother Nature”... but she had ruined her status by lying to the person she cared about most.
She didn’t tell Warren about her dormant state, about how she could sleep until possibly March. She wanted to stay awake and active all winter. She wanted to spend her time with her angel.
But he was in Italy fighting crime, and wouldn’t be back until mere days before Christmas.
She had to be awake for Christmas and New Year’s. After that, it didn’t matter.
Wait. Then she remembered Valentine’s Day.
I have to be awake for that too. And Warren’s birthday… I can’t miss those… She made herself a promise she wouldn’t go dormant this winter.
She glanced out the window as she scrubbed her teeth with the toothbrush. It was snowing again, thick heavy flakes came down almost in chunks.
-
Twenty Days after Warren left
(Y/N) accidentally drank out of Peter’s cup without realizing it for about thirty minutes. Why did it matter?
Peter had caffeine in his soda, and (Y/N) did not. She was planning to go to bed in her room, and wake up when the sun rose to conserve energy.
Now, she was staying up late with her friends, watching some crappy zombie movie on late-night TV.
“They could easily just move to an island. Use the old man’s boat. The zombies can’t swim!” (Y/N) argued during a commercial break.
“Yeah, but there’s never any logic in these things.” Peter drowsed.
“I guess so. It’s kind of dumb though…”
Peter shrugged and took a sip of his drink, “Yeah, but it’s like Sharknado. They make money, it doesn’t matter if it’s bad or not.”
(Y/N) didn’t retaliate, as the final commercial ended and the screen faded to black, signaling the movie was back on.
-
Scott couldn’t remember when he fell asleep. He rubbed his eyes and tried to see who was all around him.
Peter was passed out on the floor for some reason, Jubilee was asleep on one side of the couch… and Scott saw (Y/N), passed out with her head laying on a pillow.
“Shit! (Y/N)!” He shook her, trying to get a reaction, but nothing happened. He repeated her name trying to undo her slumber until the other two woke.
“What’s wrong?” Peter asked, hair tussled and eyes half-closed.
“(Y/N) fell asleep on the couch!” Scott was panicking. He had one job— one job from Jubilee, “Make sure she only falls asleep in her bedroom or else she won’t wake up until March.”
“Scott! Stop it!” Jubilee pulled him away from (Y/N)’s sleeping figure. “You could kill her!”
“What—” He turned to Jubilee, “What do we do then?”
“Peter, get Professor McCoy up here.”
“But it’s 4 AM…” Jubilee gave him a deadly glare and he sped off.
Scott was ordered to sit and be quiet while Peter got McCoy.
“She fell asleep. She drank some of my soda earlier, causing her to not be tired. We thought we could get her sleepy by watching a movie, but we all fell asleep before she did…” Peter was giving Hank a 30-second recap, with 3000 words.
“Peter, everything’s going to be fine.” Hank carefully scooped (Y/N) up in his arms, bridal style. He looked her over up close. Her skin looked pale, the leaves and flowers in her hair were gone, all that was left were dried twigs, and the vines usually wrapped around her legs were concealed by sweatpants, so he couldn’t take note on them. “I’m taking her to the medical bay. Everyone go to sleep, you can come back in the morning…” Hank glanced at the time, “You can come back later.”
-
The three mutants walked to their rooms quietly. Jubilee made a stop at a bathroom to brush her teeth, while Peter and Scott went straight to their dorm.
Peter used his speed to get changed and hop in bed. “I’ll leave the light on while you get changed.” Scott didn’t answer, he didn’t move. “Scott?”
“What if she dies?” His voice was barely above a whisper.
“Jubilee said she’s been doing this for years, (Y/N)‘s not gonna die.” Scott still didn’t move, causing Peter to sit up and face his roommate better. “Everything will be okay. McCoy knows what to do, and this is no different than when bears go hibernate for the winter or when geese fly south. She’ll be fine.”
“We don’t know that. If something interrupts her she could die—“
“She won’t.” Peter knew he knew, what Scott was thinking. Scott did what anyone would have done. Tried to jostle her awake, he didn’t know what else to do.
“Do you know what it’s like?...”
Peter hadn’t the slightest idea what Scott was referencing, he kept his mouth shut, trying to figure it out.
“To have almost killed someone? Your parents arguing with theirs, lawsuits being threatened, your life could end before theirs and the doctors think they’re on borrowed time… How you know you deserve to be punished, and instead you’re just sent away, to be with more family and start new. You try to be better than you ever were, and people— they believe it. You deserve everything you’ve worked for… and then you go and fuck up! It’s one thing to have your mutation surface and have chunks of ceiling and a bathroom door put a school bully in a coma— but to hurt someone like (Y/N)?...” Scott’s voice trembled. His cheeks were covered in his tears. “If anything happens it’s going to be my fault. Warren’s going to blame me because everyone talks me up about how responsible I am and all these leadership qualities I have, that I actually don’t. Warren is going to kill me if she doesn’t wake up—“ He choked out a sob.
Peter was quick to wrap the boy in his arms. “Hey, hey… shh… shh… You didn’t hurt her. She’s going to be fine. Hank picked her up and carried her to his lab and she did fine. You shaking her didn’t do anything.” Scott continued weeping.
“How about you take a shower, and then we can go see her, okay?” Peter talked slower than ever before and with softness, enough to be gentle, but not so much you’d think Scott was a child.
He nodded, rubbing his nose with the back of his hand.
“Okay, come on buddy…”
-
Hank had carefully dressed her in a hospital gown and hooked her up to various equipment. Everything seemed normal for her coma-like state. He didn’t wake her up carrying her downstairs.
Hank sat down in a chair next to her. He removed his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. He had no idea what to do.
This had happened before, but Hank just kept her in his lab and he wouldn’t do anything until she woke up. Sometimes students would visit to see how she was doing… Most of the time they’d just whisper and watch her for a few minutes before leaving, some made jokes about how she needed Prince Charming to kiss and wake her up.
Hank hesitated allowing Charles tell the team what happened. They wouldn’t be back for another week, and he didn’t want to cause a distraction for them.
“Hey Doc,” Peter waved. Scott was standing next to him.
Hank quickly put his glasses back on and stood up. “What are you doing awake? You should be asleep.”
“Couldn’t sleep. Figured we could come by, see how (Y/N)’s doing.”
“Yeah— she’s doing fine. Vitals are steady and her heartbeat is regular. All we have to do is wait.” Hank faked some optimism. He knew why they were there, and she was fine— except, Hank had no idea when she’d awake.
“Did you tell Xavier what happened?” Scott asked.
“Yeah, he knows. He said there’s nothing we can do until she wakes up. We have the option to wake her and keep her in the green room, but that’s easier said than done…” Scott looked pale. Hank cursed to himself for freaking the kid out. “Trust me, this is the best option for her.” Scott nodded.
“Yeah… “ Peter tried to distract him. “Why don’t we eat some leftover cake?”
“I’m not hungry Pete,” Scott answered.
“Well I am, and you’re not going to mope around down here. It’ll like, give (Y/N) a bad vibe. Come on.” Scott sighed and followed Peter out of the med bay.
-
Twenty four days after Warren left
Warren was exhausted, Everyone was. The mission went smoothly, or smoothly as it could, considering the number of minor injuries everyone bore.
“We’ve got a few more hours until we’re home,” Alex announced, checking in on the younger X-Men.
Ororo, Jean, and Kurt were playing go fish. Warren was watching, contributing nothing to the game but sarcastic comments and jokingly-judgemental looks.
“Great, thanks,” They replied.
Alex nodded and walked back to his seat in the cockpit. He pulled something small and rectangular out of his pocket. Warren carefully watched from the corner of his eye.
Is that a cell phone?
Cell phones weren’t allowed on missions. They were distractions, not to mention out of rage cellular fees were expensive— plus with modern technology comes tracking. Having something as minor as a cellphone on a mission could jeopardize the whole operation simply because someone wanted to use google maps and see where the nearest Starbucks was.
“Alex?”
“Yeah?” He stuck the object in his pocket.
“What is that?” Warren kept his down, as to not alert the others.
“What?”
“The thing in your pocket. What is it?”
“Warren—“
Warren was pissed. “It’s a cellphone isn’t it?”
“It’s a burner phone. In case of an emergency—“
“Why’d you take it out?”
“Hank texted me.”
“Oh, great.” Warren spat, “You bring a phone on missions in case you miss your little boyfriend.”
“Warren—“
“No!” He spoke out. At this point, everyone was watching. “You don’t get to break the rules and endanger the mission!”
“Warren, calm down.”
“You can’t tell me—“
“Someone at the mansion got hurt, bird brain. That’s why Alex’s using the burner to text Hank.” Raven rolled her eyes. Dramatic much?
“What?”
No one knew this, not even Jean. They all tuned into the conversation.
“Who did?”
“What happened?”
“Everything’s fine.”Alex lied.
“No, it’s not. You wouldn’t be texting Hank if it was.”
Jean discreetly put two fingers to her temple, trying to figure out who got hurt. Raven saw her and glared, mentally telling her to stop.
“Sorry.”
“Everyone settle down. We have a few hours left until we’re back in Westchester. Just chill out until then.”
Warren rolled his eyes and sat by himself, thinking Raven’s little distraction speech was stupid.
He couldn’t help it— acting all childish— he missed (Y/N) and he really hated having to share a bed with Kurt on missions. Kurt’s tail got all tangled and Warren’s wings were cramped.
It was different from when he’d cuddle with (Y/N). He’d wrap his wings around her, and she’d grow flowers in her sleep around them. It was soothing… He’d wake up refreshed, and looking at his wonderful girlfriend. Kurt was… a major downgrade… he was a decent roommate, but he couldn’t stand him as a bedmate.
Warren yawned, making a note to sleep for ten years and hold (Y/N) while he did it, once he got back home.
-
The basketball court came into view, and the ground caved in, letting Raven land the Jet in its hangar. Alex announced they were back and free to get off the ship. The rest of the team hastily grabbed their bags and ran out of the X-Jet.
Outside waiting for them was Jubilee, Peter, and Scott. Hank wasn’t there.
“Where’s your boyfriend?” Warren teased Alex.
He didn’t respond.
“Where’s your girlfriend?” Jean mocked Warren.
Warren did a double-take as Peter and Jubilee spoke to Raven and Ororo. (Y/N) wasn’t there.
“Hey, guys.” The three that stayed behind looked up with guilty expressions on their face as soon as they looked at Warren.
“Where’s (Y/N)?” He asked.
No answer.
Warren asked again, but more concerned, “Guys, where’s (Y/N)?”
“She’s not dead—“ Jubilee hit Peter and scolded him.
“What does that mean?”
The group exchanged nervous eye contact. They weren’t sure how to explain it, but if they didn’t Warren was probably going to attempt murder.
“She’s in what Hank calls a ‘dormant state’. Basically hibernation—“ Warren’s face visibly paled. “Except waking her up is way more complicated…”
“So she’s in a coma?...” He asked.
“Yeah, basically…” Jubilee admitted.
“How did this happen?”
“(Y/N)’s mutation, I thought she told you…”
“Told me what?” Jubilee didn’t answer him. “What, Jubilee?”
Alex put his hand on Warren’s shoulder. “Maybe Hank should explain it…”
-
“So she won’t wake up until March?”
“April at the latest,” Hank answered.
“And you let this happen?” He turned to Jubilee, Scott, and Peter. They were terrified of what Warren might do.
“No, no, they didn’t,” Hank defended them. “Her body just does this. It’s no different than that time of month…”
“A period isn’t four months long,” Warren mumbled.
“Let’s give him a moment alone with her.” Hank ushered everyone out, shutting the door behind him.
Warren sank in the chair next to (Y/N)’s body. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
“Fuck,” He mumbled. “Fuck, fuck,” Tears welled in his eyes. “Fuck!” He screamed. He put his fist up to his mouth to muffle his sobs.
“How could… Why didn’t she tell me?” Warren looked at (Y/N)’s figure. “Why didn’t you tell me about this?”
Warren felt his heart breaking. She looked so… so dead.
But she wasn’t. She wasn’t dead but she wouldn’t wake until March.
 It was December.
“Hank said… he said, we could wake you up, but there’s a chance you’ll die. And I’d rather have you like this than dead…” He turned away and mouthed cursed under his breath.
Warren didn’t know what to do. Sure, he wasn’t necessarily one of those clingy boyfriends, whose only life purpose is to serve his girlfriend… but he really liked her.
He wanted to spend more time with her than he ever could. She understood when he had nightmares or needed space. They never fought— their biggest disagreement was on a stupid homework problem.
She made earrings out of some of his metal feathers, he learned how to take care of all kinds of plants. She showed him how to be compassionate and kind, he showed her how to be assertive and throw a decent punch.
Peter teased him all the time, saying he was “in loooove,” dragged out o and everything. He’d always tell him to shut up or piss off.
Because maybe he was in love with her.
“But I’m her first boyfriend.”
“That doesn’t mean you can’t be her first love.”
“That means I’ll hurt her…” Warren’s voice cracked. “I don’t wanna hurt her…”
He didn’t know she’d hurt him.
-
Warren wasn’t allowed to sit at (Y/N)’s side all day, or even all week. He had work to make up for when he was in Italy— homework, mid-terms, laundry, post-mission exam— not to mention Christmas was in five days.
He tried to keep himself busy in the first two days, and he overachieved everything he had to do. Which inevitably, left him with nothing to do.
“God, you look miserable,” Peter commented when Warren made his way into the kitchen, bags under his eyes, messy bed-head hair, sweatpants hung low, and a wrinkly t-shirt.
“I stayed up, deep cleaning my closet. I’ve got some stuff I’m gonna donate.”
“That’s nice.” Jean curtly commented.
Nobody knew what to say. They weren’t sure what would trigger Warren.
“We were all gonna see Knives Out,” Scott said. “A day off for everyone, chance to get last-minute gifts…”
“Not interested.” Warren poured himself a bowl of cornflakes.
“Come on,” Jubilee almost begged. “You haven’t left the mansion at all in the past few days.”
“I have stuff to do.” He poured milk into his bowl.
“Warren, you deep cleaned your closet at midnight. You have nothing to do and this will keep you occupied for a while.” Jubilee pointed out.
He was tired, “I don’t want to leave the mansion. What if something happens—“
“(Y/N)’s going to be fine.”
Warren held his spoon tightly in his fist. “That’s what I thought before I went to Italy— Look at her now! She’s in a coma.”
“She’ll wake up in the spring,” Kurt offered up to calm Warren down.
“This could have been prevented. I should have been here—“ Warren felt himself breakdown. He started crying, and no one knew what to do. Ororo got up from her seat and hugged him. He sobbed into her shoulder.
Ororo gave him words of comfort, “It’s okay, this is normal for her. Distance will do you good. Everything’s going to be okay… You should get out, get fresh air.”
Warren nodded and wiped his eyes with his sleeve, “Uh-huh.”
“Come see the movie with us,” She suggested.
“Okay, yeah… I’ll— I’ll go get ready.” He put his bowl in the sink and went out of the kitchen.
“Holy shit.” Peter’s eyes were wide with shock. “He’s a mess!”
Jubilee swatted him with her hand, “Hush! He’s clearly upset… His girlfriend’s in hibernation until March.”
“Yeah, but like, he just started crying,” Peter stated. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Warren cry before… He just looked so broken, like, holy shit. I don’t think I was that upset when I got cheated on by my girlfriend, junior year on prom night…”  The worst part is, we could have prevented this.”
“I think I’m gonna puke,” Scott mumbled.
“Hey!” Ororo chasted the two boys. “I don’t care what happened while we were gone, but you’re both acting pathetic. This is no one’s fault! Get your heads out of your asses and be there for Warren.”
“We should wake her up…” Everyone looked at Scott like he was crazy.
“And risk killing her?” Ororo asked.
“Yeah, no,” Peter answered. “Romeo may follow suit.”
-
Warren didn’t want to go outside, but he needed to keep busy, or else he’d start crying again.
He was a mess— he knew Kurt was tired of him staying up all night, doing anything and everything to keep busy… but when he closed his eyes he was face to face with nightmares— (Y/N)’s practically lifeless body lying in the hospital bed, her never waking up, or if she did she’d have amnesia and not remember anyone.
Warren couldn’t sleep, but staying up all night would eventually take its toll on him, or he’d run out of things to do.
Warren got changed and quickly ran downstairs to the medical bay. He wanted to check on (Y/N) before he left.
“How is she?”
“Same as she has been for the past few days,” Hank answered. “Everything’s normal, and she’s doing fine— great actually.”
Warren nodded, “Um, I just wanted to see how she was doing. I’m going out with the other X-Men… we’re seeing Knives Out… Ororo said it’d be a good idea for me to get out of the mansion.”
Hank blinked and then frowned in thought. “Yeah, she’s right. However, you seem to be doing really well, considering the situation. You haven’t spent all your time down here, but you do visit. You haven’t acted out with a huge wave of impulse emotions, but getting out for a little bit would be great for you.”
Warren bit his tongue, holding back from telling Hank the truth about how he was doing. “Yeah… I’ll um, see you later.”
-
Warren zoned out in the middle of the movie for a few minutes and had to ask Kurt what happened.
“Police chased them down.”
“Ah, okay.” Warren nodded. He glanced at his other friends. Scott had an arm around Jean, and they were cuddling, practically on top of each other, in the big recliners. Jubilee bought sour patch kids and was sharing the bag with Ororo. Peter and Kurt were really engrossed in the movie, and Warren was just kind of there…
He was lonely— The movie was good, and he was enjoying it— but Warren as a whole was lonely.
He put up the hard “I don’t need anybody,” exterior to protect himself from hurt. His poor relationship with his parents caused him to be cautious and made it hard for him to develop a steady healthy relationship with any authority figures in his life. His cage fighting days taught him, he was alone, and nobody was ever going to love him, and he’d have to fight to get anywhere in life.
Obviously, that proved to be false— he found confinement in Alex, (and sometimes Hank), as the older brother he never had. The community in the mansion proved he didn’t have to be so alone, and (Y/N) made him realize love is not some made-up fantasy, concocted in Disney’s headquarters.
(Y/N) felt like his best friend on most occasions, and while he had all his other friends, her being gone made him feel so empty inside.
-
On Christmas Eve he moped around in Scott and Peter’s room, one earbud in listening to sad music.
Scott wasn’t even there— he was doing God knows what with Jean, and Peter was playing Pac-Man.
“You can hang out with me tomorrow if you want. I don’t celebrate Christmas.”
“I’m good.” Warren knew Peter would probably run home and mess around with his sisters and mom, or awkwardly hang around the mansion, trying to find Erik and tell him about their relationship.
“Dude,” He awkwardly chuckled. “Okay, look— um, I know, nothing I say can fix the situation, but if you want to talk I’m here.”
Warren paused his music. “What was the last thing she said?”
Peter was awestruck, “She’s not dead!”
“I know—“
“She’s in a coma that she’s going to wake up from! She didn’t die.”
“I know that! I just want to know what she said before she went into the coma…”
Peter felt guilty for jumping to conclusions. Warren seemed so defeated, like a kicked puppy. “We were watching a crappy zombie movie on tv… and it was like, really bad, and we were mostly complaining about how bad it was. The last thing I remember was she said something about how the prosthetics sucked and she could have done it better with some mint leaves and slime.”
The corner of Warren’s lip rose up slightly. Typical (Y/N), but she was probably right.
“Wanna play Pac-Man with me?”
Warren sat up, “Sure.”
-
“He just started crying, like— I’ve never seen anyone so upset, and I thought you were dead at one point!” Scott was frazzled in Hank’s lab with Alex, Jubilee, Jean, Ororo, and Kurt.
“He seemed fine when he came down to visit her the other day.” Scott gave Hank a disbelieving look. “Well if he’s crying over little things, obviously he’s extremely stressed out and I’m not going to push him.”
Scott glanced in the direction of (Y/N)’s area in the lab, “Maybe we should wake her up.”
“Are you crazy?!” Jubilee asked. “She could die from that—“
“She probably won’t though… (Y/N) being unconscious has made Warren, everyone on edge.”
“You want an easy way out of this,” Jubilee raised her voice as she kept speaking, “If you really cared about how Warren was, you’d be trying to comfort him best you can despite your half-assed friendship!”
“It’s our fault she’s like this, Jubes! We were supposed to make sure she didn’t fall asleep anywhere besides her room, and we couldn’t do it.”
“Scott, she was getting weaker every day, this would have happened no matter what—“
His voice got louder, yet he was practically shaking, “No, we had the most simple task in the world! And we couldn’t do it! We’re the X-Men and we couldn’t even keep a girl from falling asleep!”
Jean hugged Scott, running her fingers through his hair. “It’s not your fault. She does this every year— and it’s not like you ignored her.”
“What if it was you instead? I’d be just like Warren…”
“Don’t say that—” She kissed the top of his head. “You’d be fine.”
“I think we should discuss this with Warren and the Professor before we do anything, drastic.” Hank’s final words were clearly aimed at Scott.
-
“We can wake her up…”
Everyone was still in the lab, but this time Warren and Professor Xavier were present. Warren didn’t move, he was focused on what Hank was telling him and what it actually meant.
“But… she could die if not done correctly. Waking up an animal early out of hibernation could kill it, but getting a plant out of its dormant season would just weaken it, if done too quickly though, it could kill the plant.”
“Hank,” Charles rubbed the bridge of his nose, “I thought we agreed, when (Y/N) goes dormant, we do not disturb her. We agreed with her parents several years ago.”
“Yeah, but that was when she was a kid. She’s older now, and everyone’s distraught. Her boyfriend—“
“Oh, please,” Charles scoffed. “If I got on my knees and tried to align the stars every time Erik got hurt, there wouldn’t even be a school.”
“Cut the crap. You and Erik fight and make up like some divorced couple in a soap opera. When Erik gets hurt, you’re always the first to know.”
Xavier didn’t say anything out loud, he just glared.
“Um, personally, uh, sorry,” Warren awkwardly cut in. “I think if (Y/N) might die if we wake her up, then it’s not worth it. And if her parents agreed, letting her sleep is the best thing, then it probably is.”
Warren didn’t even want to think about her folks. Could you imagine? Their daughter dies because some dumb goth boy couldn’t handle her taking a three-month-long nap without him. Yeah, that’d impress them.
Charles clapped his hands together, “Well, there! It’s settled then. (Y/N) is fine as she is. I know this is upsetting for her to not be present around the holidays, but we can all assume she would want us to have fun and be kind to others, showing compassion and always helping those in need.”

Warren couldn’t sleep. He was restless in bed— too hot, then too cold, he’d have the beginnings of a nightmare or no dream at all— he was sure Kurt would have kicked him out by now if he hadn’t made the decision to sleep in Peter and Scott’s room for the night.
His tossing and turning made him have to pee. He got up and went over to the bathroom.
Looking in the mirror as he dried his hands he sighed. Warren looked so tired, but he didn’t know what to do.
For the first time since Germany, he truly felt alone.
-
He grabbed the two gifts stored under his bed and he quietly walked down the halls.
None of the doors were locked, it was almost too easy for him to get into Hank’s lab.
He flicked on the light switch, even though he didn’t need to. Her sleeping figure made his heart almost burst out of his chest. Warren felt so awkward standing there.
He set the gifts down on a chair and walked over to (Y/N).
“Hi…” No response. “Um, I don’t know if you can hear me… but like, Jubilee and Kurt watch all those soaps and they always have characters talking to people in comas so I figured, maybe, just maybe, you could hear something… anyway, um… I miss you. I really miss you and I wish you’d said something about all this…” He sat on the edge of the bed. “I’ve been trying to keep myself busy, with homework and chores and training. It’s been driving Kurt crazy that I’m up all the time, but I can’t sleep most nights…”
He paused for a moment, for the thought of, Am I crazy? Flashed through his brain.
“I got you that fancy water filtered you wanted for Christmas… along with some mollisol soil in a jar…” He huffed in amusement while glancing at the gifts. “Peter made fun of me. He said, “No girl wants a jar of dirt for Christmas.” But I know you’d be happy with it— trying to divide it equally among every plant in your room, your eyes lighting up when you see improvements in them…” Warren looked at (Y/N) and smiled sadly.
“We haven’t even been dating for a whole year, but it feels like it’s been forever…” His eyes watered and his voice faltered, “And that’s love… Isn’t it?... Everyone tells me something different, but— I think I love you. No— I know I love you. I love you and, and, I don’t know… I don’t know what I’ll do while you’re here. I don’t want to wake up tomorrow and see everyone all happy like nothing’s wrong— or Scott kissing Jean when he thinks no one’s looking if I can’t put my arm around you and pull you closer and give him a look that states we’re a cuter couple…” Warren almost laughed at himself. His dumb competition with Scott.
“I know you’d want me to pretend like nothing’s wrong because it isn’t— but it is… I don’t know what to do…”
-
Kurt knocked on the door of his room the next morning. “Warren! Merry Christmas!” No response.
“I need to brush my teeth.” Still no answer.
Kurt opened the door himself, “Warren?” The room was empty. “Where are you?”
“Hey, Kurt,” Scott peaked in, still in pajamas. “Everything alright?”
“Warren’s gone.”
“He’s probably downstairs already. Peter and Jubilee are, I bet he’s with them.”
“Oh. You’re probably right.” Scott bid him goodbye and went to Jean’s room. Kurt still couldn’t get the feeling that Scott was wrong out of his system.
-
Hank and Alex were headed down to the lab, giggling and acting like kids sneaking around.
“Alex,” Hank breathed in between laughs, “I just wanna check on (Y/N).”
“I know,” He managed between the kisses he left all over Hank’s neck.
“Give me five minutes. Then we can join the others.”
Alex frowned as Hank opened the door. “I want to be alone with you.”
“Wasn’t this morning enough?” Hank joked.
Alex rolled his eyes and hugged Hank from behind.
Hank smiles and walked into the med Bay Area, where (Y/N) was put.
He was shocked, to say the least. Alex too.
“Did he wake her?” Alex whispered.
“I don’t think so. Her heart rate hasn’t changed.”
Alex gently shook Warren’s shoulder, “Hey, kid, time to get up.”
He groaned and slowly opened his eyes, squinting to adjust to the light. “Mmmmhmmmggg…”
“Merry Christmas.” Hank teased as he looked over (Y/N)’s vitals.
“Shit.” Warren rubbed his eyes, “Did I fall asleep?”
“Yeah.”
“When did you come down here? I went upstairs at around eleven.” Hank commented.
“You got into our room at 11:37 PM.” Alex corrected him.
“Uhh, I don’t remember…” Warren was too tired to think. He wanted to get something to eat and go back to bed. He didn’t want to see everyone messing around the tree Charles got the younger students to set up. He wanted to go back to sleep right in bed with (Y/N), but he knew Hank wouldn’t let him.
“Everyone’s upstairs,” Hank said.
“I know,” Warren said back.
Alex was preoccupied with his phone. Scott kept texting him where he was— for being the younger brother, he acted like an older one.
“Look, uh, I don’t want to overstep anything—” Hank said somewhat quietly to Warren. “I know we’re not that close, but—“
Warren shot him down, “I don’t need to talk to anyone. But thanks for the offer, Hank.”
Hank pushes his glasses up his nose, “No, it’s not that… When Alex was presumed dead, and we found his body and he was in a coma… I was an emotional wreck. I spent all my time down here, worried he’d wake up any second, or never wake up, or wake up and not remember who I am… We weren’t even dating at the time. I was just so heartbroken because I wasted literal decades avoiding him and my feelings and— sorry. Sorry. I got off track… the point is, I get it. I’m not going to judge you for coming down at night to sleep with her.”
“Just, just don’t tell anyone about this, okay?”
Hank nodded understandingly.
“Whatcha guys talking about?” Alex got up and wrapped an arm around Hank.
“How much I love you,” Hank stated matter of factly.
Alex chuckled and kissed Hank’s cheek. “Don’t bother him with that. I’m sure Warren doesn’t want to hear you talk about our relationship.”
“I don’t care,” Warren told him.
“Still— go upstairs. Scott and Kurt think you got kidnapped or something.”
“Alright, alright,” Warren had to laugh, “I will.”
“We’ll meet you up there.”
Neither of the older men spoke until the door shut.
“He loves her.”
“Hmm?” Alex looked at Hank curiously.
“Warren, he loves (Y/N).” Alex hummed in agreement.
“They’re good for each other.”
-
Warren walked into the common room while chaos was in full motion.
Kurt was teleporting from place to place in the room, Ororo was focusing on making it snow outside, surprisingly, Peter was asleep on the couch, and Jean and Scott were cuddled under a blanket by the fireplace, obviously feeling each other up.
“Warren!” Kurt jumped down and landed at his feet. “Where have you been?”
He shrugged, “Workout.”
“Okay…” Kurt wasn’t convinced, but
“Hey, Warren! I made these brownies, they’re really good—“ She handed him one. “Here!”
“Uh, thanks.” He took a bite out of it. Gooey. Rich chocolate flavor. Yet, it also crumbled. Not half bad.
Warren smiled and nodded, telling Jubilee it was delicious. She was thrilled.
After a round of greetings to everyone, Warren sat on the couch next to Peter. “There’s a present for you…” He murmured, half asleep.
Warren furrowed his brows and looked at the tree. There was one gift left. The wrapping paper was black, with two silver bows on it. Warren smiled sadly at it, as he held it in his arms.
“Aww… It’s you!” Peter teased. Warren laughed a little, before opening it.
It was a box. Obviously, not empty. Warren removed the lid and looked through it. Inside was a disposable camera, an empty photo book, and a letter. He grabbed the letter first and read it.
Warren,
If you’re reading this, I’m either dormant or will be soon. I didn’t tell you anything about it because I’m scared. I’m scared you’d want to break up because I’m not conscious for part of the year. To most people, I’m sure it’d be a major turn off. But as Jubilee sometimes puts it, you’re ‘a little too attached’ to me to break up with me over a long nap. :) Or at least I hope so.
Anyway, I don’t want you moping over me the whole time, because you’ll just be sad and closed off and lose a lot of progress in your mental health. And I worry about you. I’ll be worrying about you quite a bit while I’m hibernating.
Uh, I can also hear everything you say to me. In case you wanna chat. I can’t say anything back, but it’s nice to listen.
I got you the camera and photobook to give you something to do. When I wake up you can catch me up on everything I missed. Take some pictures, save some memes for me, make a playlist of songs you think I’d like, movies I need to watch— Jubilee did it my first year here, and I liked it. I didn’t feel like I was wasting my time sleeping… I sometimes feel that way— I could do schoolwork, or spend time with my plants that still trudge through winter, or hang out with my friends… don’t feel sad, this is a normal bodily function… for me… You’re gonna think it sucks, which is kind of does, but I’ll try to make up for lost time… I love you…
(Y/N)
Warren couldn’t read the last few words, they’d been scratched out. He rubbed his eye, trying not to cry.
“What’d you get?” Peter asked.
“Uh, camera… So (Y/N)’s got photos for when she wakes up…”
“Aww…” Peter cooed. “That’s so cute— Hey guys! Let’s get a group photo!”
“Peter, I don’t— I don’t think that’s necessary—”
“Too bad!” Peter snatched the camera from Warren’s hands and started motioning and yelling at people to get in the frame. “I used to use these all the time as a kid— these little disposable cameras. I loved them!” Peter pressed the button, and a light flashed for a moment. He turned the dial on it and then handed it back to Warren. “You know how to use these, right?”
“Uh…”
“Great! You’ve totally got this.”
Peter was gone in a flash, leaving Warren alone.
He huffed, what was he really going to do with a camera? He didn’t want to bring his girlfriend up to speed with pop culture and all the drama she missed. He wanted to live through it all with her.
But he couldn’t…
-
Warren went back downstairs to the lab. Nobody stopped him from leaving or even asked where he was going. It was like he had no value in the group without (Y/N), just someone they tolerated, if that even.
He wanted to scream, knowing she could hear, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He couldn’t find his voice… no words came out… just tears…
He fell down to the floor and cried. That’s all he could do.
You’re so weak! Pathetic! You can’t spend a moment away from her and you cry like a fucking baby! You don’t deserve her…
His sobs were the only things you could hear in the room.
-
New Year’s came and gone. The X-Men threw a party. Warren took a photo since he knew (Y/N) would have wanted to be there.
He didn’t want to be there. Soon as he took his photo he wanted to leave. He never liked parties, not as a kid, not in Berlin, and not when he came to the mansion— until he started dating (Y/N).
She got invited to several parties. Some were just dorm get-togethers with different groups of kids, others were house parties from the kids at the public school down the road, some were like this… real parties. She always wanted Warren with her when she went, and he never said no. He didn’t always enjoy them, but he didn’t mind. If (Y/N) had a good time, so did he.
But here Warren was, moping in the corner of Xavier’s ballroom.
-
He didn’t leave his room on Valentine’s day, despite still having classes. He trained for three hours a day, not including the group workouts and training required for all members of the X-Men.
He volunteered to go on more missions. He didn’t want to be stuck in the mansion for more than two days at a time. No one objected, he was a valuable member of the team, and the more experience the better he would get.
He was to go to London for three weeks with Ororo, Hank, Jean, and Scott.
Jean and Scott were excited because this just meant they’d somehow end up in a hotel room alone together at night, while everyone else was sleeping.
Warren was not too thrilled, as he was jealous. No need to sugarcoat it. Warren was jealous that Scott got Jean all 365 days of the year, that he never had to be away from her for more than a week, that they could flaunt their relationship and how happy they were together.
It made his stomach churn, but there was nothing he could do.
-
“I’m going to London for a few days… If I meet Harry Styles I’ll tell him you’re a fan…” (Y/N) laid in bed, lifeless. Warren tucked his hair behind his ears, making a note to get a haircut soon. “I’m going with Scott, Jean, and Ororo…”
He hated this. He hated talking to her, knowing she could hear him but not say anything back. It was different the few days before Christmas, but now it was all just a mess.
“Bye.” He threw his duffle bag over his shoulder and walked out.
One week.
One week with no cell phones, no homework, nothing. Sure, Warren would probably have to punch a few bad guys, but other than that he just wanted to sleep. He didn’t really care for much anymore. He tried his best to stay engaged and involved, keep himself busy, but it was extremely challenging.
A five-hour flight, with nothing to do.
“You guys excited?” Hank asked.
“Yeah!”
“Definitely.”
“I’m hoping I can use some new moves Mystquie’s been teaching me.”
“Mhmm…” Warren mumbled.
Hank glanced at him. He looked depressing.
“We’re in London for a week, I bet we’ll have some time to do sightseeing or go out.”
“Ooo!” Jean nudged Scott. “That’ll be fun, right babe?”
He nodded, “Oh yeah.”
Warren brought Peter’s walkman with him, and put in his earbuds and closed his eyes, assumingly taking a nap.
-
Once they arrived and checked into their rooms, Warren was still tired. He wanted to take another nap.
“So, I think we should go out tonight—” Hank handed everyone their room keys, “—You guys have been working really hard, and not much praise is given by Alex or Raven, or Erik when he occasionally shows up… but we’re proud of you.”
“Aww…” “Thanks, Hank…”
Warren just offered a smile.
“We can unpack and get changed if you guys want, we can go out and get some dinner?”
Everyone thought Hank’s plan was good, and they separated into their rooms.
“You doing okay?” Scott asked while unpacking his bag.
“Yeah… Why?”
“You didn’t say anything the whole ride here.”
“I took a nap,” Warren unzipped his bag.
“Oh.”
“I’m not going to unexpectedly burst into tears.” Warren snapped.
“I didn’t say you were—”
“Everyone thinks I am, I’m not stupid. I know you think I’m emotionally unstable and Hank’s been acting all nice on this mission because of it.”
“Are you?”
“What?”
Scott sat down on his bed, “Are you emotionally unstable?”
Warren glared at him, “I’ve been working my ass off for this mission. I’ve trained longer and harder than anybody else. Do I look unstable to you?”
“No! I just thought—”
“Doesn’t matter. I’m gonna shower and get dressed for dinner.” He walked into the bathroom and slammed the door.
-
Hank had asked the woman at the front desk a good place to eat. She recommended some local place down the road. He rounded up the kids, despite there only being four of them.
“A night out will do us good.”
“You’ve been saying that,” Warren mumbled.
“You didn’t have to come you know,” Ororo stated.
“I have nothing better to do with my time.”
Ororo kept her mouth shut, knowing she could have said something back, but knowing Warren, it was better not to.
-
The restaurant was pretty crowded, despite it being the middle of the week, but the group still managed to get a table.
Their server was friendly. They got drinks. They ordered their food.
“You okay, Warren?” Hank noticed he hardly touched his food.
“Mhmm… Just not that hungry. I’ll probably get a box.”
“Oh, okay,” Hank nodded, a little unsure.
-
They left the restaurant and went back to the hotel. Warren took his shirt off and laid on his bed.
“I’m gonna hang out with Jean… You gonna be okay?”
Warren let out a breathy laugh, “Yeah, yeah. Go have fun, Cyclops… I’m going to bed.”
Warren couldn’t sleep. He didn’t really want to. He turned on the tv, trying to find something to watch.
Someone knocked on the door while he was in the middle of some cooking show. Warren got up and opened his door. “Hey, Ro.”
“Hey, Jean kicked me out. Wanna go for a swim in the pool?”
“Sure.”
He quickly got changed and followed Ororo downstairs.
The got into the elevator and were quiet at first.
“I think they have a hot tub.”
“Cool.”
Ororo glanced at Warren and sighed. “I’m here for you if you want to talk.”
He nodded, “I know.”
“For real. You’re allowed to talk about your feelings.”
“I don’t want to.”
Ororo sighed, “Warren…”
He looked back at her. “I want this all to be over.”
“(Y/N)—”
“It’s not fair! Everyone in my life has left me or used me somehow— and I know she’s different, but it’s not fair! I was so happy with her and—”
The elevator stopped. It wasn’t their floor. The doors opened the reveal a young woman. She had a familiar glow to her and leaves in her hair.
Warren looked at her, feeling lightheaded at seeing her.
“(Y/N)?”
-
Warren woke up in his hotel bed. He wasn’t sure how he got there. He didn’t even remember going to the pool with Ororo. All he could remember was her.
(Y/N).
He looked over to his left and saw Scott peacefully asleep in his bed, sleep mask on and everything. The TV was off, and so were all the lights. Warren couldn’t go back to bed, it wasn’t an option.
He quietly got out of bed and slipped on his shoes, slowly opening the door, as to not wake Scott.
He went out to the halls. He had no plan, no idea where he was going, but he needed to get out.
He walked around, lost in the halls late at night. He wasn’t tired, but he was upset. He didn’t want to keep crying, he didn’t want to be so dependent on (Y/N), but without her—
The sound of thunder interrupted his thoughts. He looked outside and saw it was raining. It reminded him of (Y/N)— without her, all it did was rain and snow.
-
Hank said they were looking for someone. Someone Xaiver wanted to bring back to the mansion. This type of mission was more stealth and would require little physical fighting.
Hank got told from an anonymous source she’d be at some socialite gathering.
“Scott, Jean, you’re going to pretend to be some young, rich, American couple. Get in there, find our target, and get her alone. Convince her to come back with us if that doesn’t work let us know on the comms.”
“What does she look like?”
“Her name is Betsy Braddock—” Hank pulled up a file with all her information on his tablet.
“What does Xavier want with her?” Warren asked, anger rising in his tone.
Betsy… She left him to die in Egypt. She got him wrapped up in the Apocalypse cult nonsense. He didn’t want to see her again, he didn’t want to see her ever.
“She knows something about the attacks in Italy we dealt with around Christmas, plus she’s somewhat telepathic… I know your past with her is messy, but—”
“It’s fine. I don’t care.” Everyone looked at Warren, surprised at his statement.
“Alright. You guys know what to do— Jean, Scott, get dressed and ready for the party. I’ll get you an uber— Ororo, Warren, You guys are going to a hideout location not far from the location of the party, in case backup is needed. I’m going to stay and operate things here.
-
The first few hours of the mission went as expected. Jean and Scott made small talk with people, trying to find Betsy.
Warren didn’t want to see her, or more, he didn’t want her to see him in his current emotional state. But it didn’t matter what he wanted. He argued and insisted on joining this mission, and now he could see why Xavier was hesitant to let him go.
“I see her,” Jean said. “She’s not with anyone.”
Jean’s earpiece was quiet after that.
Warren and Ororo sat there for what felt like forever. Jean and Scott talked occasionally, but it was never directly to them.
The young couple eventually lured Betsy into an empty room.
“You didn’t really bring me up here to sleep with me, did you?” She asked, messing with her hair in the slight reflection from a window.
Jean shook her head, “No. But we want you to come back with us… You’ve heard of Charles Xavier…”
Betsy nodded.
“He wants you to help him with the attacks on the mutant community in southern Italy.”
“What will he give me in return?” Scott and Jean exchanged a quick glance. They weren’t exactly sure.
Scott’s voice faltered slightly, “You can…”
Jean finished his sentence. “—You can discuss that with him when we get to New York.”
Betsy turned her head to look at them, “And what if I say no?”
“We’ll chase you down until you do,” Scott stated with more confidence than before.
“Alright. I’ll go with you.”
-
Betsy had no idea Warren was in London, or even alive for that matter. Warren had no idea how she was going to react, and he didn’t really want to find out.
But he didn’t really have an option.
“Give us time to pack up and we can leave for Westchester,” Jean explained in the ride back to the hotel.
“Who else is with you?”
“Dr. McCoy is back at the hotel, and Ororo and Warren should be there too.” Betsy’s expression changed. “You probably know them as—”
“I know exactly who they are. I thought Warren died…”
Scott shook his head, “Nope. He’s doing great.” Scott blinked away the uncertainty hidden behind his words.
Betsy nodded, unsure what to say. She thought about maybe jumping out of the car, and never seeing these people again. She knew Warren would be angry when he saw her. She couldn’t blame him.
“He’s not upset with you…” Betsy looked at Jean, a bit shocked. “He’s hurting from something else… Don’t ask about it… just trust me...”
“Easy for you to say.” Betsy scoffed.
Jean shook her head, “You’ll see…”
“We’re here.” The driver stopped the car and the three got out.
Betsy looked up at the hotel the group was staying at, “Nice place.”
They walked in and headed to the nearest elevator. Jean was fidgeting with the comm in her ear.
“We got back about twenty minutes ago,” Ororo said.
“We’re on our way to our rooms,” Jean replied.
The elevator dinged, signaling it was at the destined floor.
-
They packed up quickly, and stood out in the hall, bags in hand.
Hank introduced himself to Betsy. Her response was short, she was preoccupied with her ex-boyfriend standing less than five feet away from her.
“Hi.”
He looked sad and more tired than usual. Seeing him sober was mind-blowing to Betsy, but people change. She hadn’t seen him in a few years— sure they saw each other during the Apocalypse incident, but that was a few days— she was really going to see him this time.
He didn’t respond to her. She frowned.
The plane ride was long and tedious. Betsy had nothing to do and wanted nothing more than to leave. So, she decided to try and talk to Warren again.
“Hey.” He turned his head around best he could and looked at Betsy questioningly. She nodded. “What’s up?”
“Not much.” Warren wasn’t exactly in the mood to talk.
“Cool… Cool…”
There was a pause before Warren spoke up, “Do you need anything?”
“Just wanted to talk…”
“You have other options.”
Betsy rolled her eyes.
“I don’t really wanna talk to you right now… And I don’t need you poking around in my head either.”
“I wasn’t going to,” She said calmly.
Warren didn’t respond. Betsy sighed, he was useless. Warren wasn’t going to talk even if she forced him. And she couldn’t really blame him, but she had a lingering feeling in her stomach.
Probably just my dinner digesting…
-
At some point, Betsy fell asleep, for when the plane landed Hank had to wake her up. She rubbed her eyes and undid her seatbelt.
“Do we have to go through security again?” Scott asked.
“Yeah, we left the country,” Hank told him while glancing at his watch.
Scott was not too thrilled. Everyone was tired to some degree. It was extremely late, and they went back a few hours due to the time zone.
“It won’t be that long. There’s hardly anyone here.”
Everyone went through security and headed to the baggage claim to get their stuff.
Jean was the first to get her suitcase— a medium-sized, teal one— Warren was next, and his was all black, to no one’s surprise, but the nametag on it looked drastic tied to the handle.
It was clear, with glitter and flowers trapped inside it. It didn’t seem like Warren at all to Betsy, but what did she know?
-
Hank took Betsy to an empty room and told her she could sleep there for the time being. She set her bags on the floor and looked around. There was a dated-looking wallpaper upon the walls, and the bed took up a little under half of the room.
It was alright.
Betsy rummaged through her bag for some pajamas when she heard footsteps.
Hank had left almost immediately after he showed her the room, so it couldn’t be him. She opened the door only to see Warren walking down the hall. She quietly followed him, staying several steps behind.
He went down to the main floor, and even further down into the basement.
This place is huge! Betsy said to herself.
The basement looked different from the rest of the mansion, for the walls and floor were made of metal.
Warren turned right, into a room within the basement. Betsy held her breath as she got closer.
What is he doing down here?
Betsy caught sight of a girl laying in a hospital bed. Warren sat down next to her and started talking…
That’s why he’s on edge…  Betsy had accidentally bumped into something, making a loud noise.
Warren shot up, “Who’s there?”
Betsy tried to sneak out, but Warren caught her.
“Betsy!”
She froze.
“Why were you following me?”
“Why are you visiting a coma patient at three in the morning?” She asked back.
“She’s my girlfriend.”
“I mean I figured as much—”
“So leave.” He cut her off and was sharp. “Please…” He pleaded more in his last word.
She looked at her unconscious figure, “I could help…”
“No,” He was stern.
“I could—” “—You’d kill her.”
“No, I wouldn’t,” She defended.
“Yeah, you would. Her mutation makes her basically hibernate until March, so she’s fine.”
“I could still help— I’ve helped you before…”
“No, you didn’t! You were constantly going in and out of my life whenever it was convenient for you and came back when I didn’t need you too! You— you ruined my life!”
Betsy felt a wave of guilt wash over her.
“Look…” Warren sighed.  “Betsy… I’m sorry. I don’t want your help… I don’t want you to hurt her.”
Betsy nodded, she knew Warren wasn’t going to change his mind.
“Okay.”
“What?”
“I won’t help you.” She left the medical room, leaving Warren alone with his thoughts.
-
Over the next few days, Betsy accommodated herself to the mansion, giving Xavier the information he wanted, and exploring the grounds.
She was almost always accompanied by Jubilee, per some people’s request, seeing as her past wasn’t spotless.
Jubilee was full of energy, and always willing to tell Betsy whatever she asked about.
“Who’s Warren’s girlfriend?”
“Her name is (Y/N). She controls plants. She can also grow them from her body. And her eyes change color based on her mood… She’s uh, she’s not around at the moment, but that’s not important.”
Betsy nodded along as Jubilee spoke. “Is he happy?”
“Do you miss him?”
Betsy struggled to let out a straight answer, “No— ugh— I just— I ruined his life.”
“You didn’t ruin his life!” Betsy glared at her. “Okay, okay, maybe you kind of did ruin his life, but he’s fine now. He’s just a little on edge you’re here and (Y/N) isn’t.”
“I don’t need to stay here—”
“Bullshit!” Jubilee exclaimed.  “You’ve got nowhere else to go, really.”
“It’s more complicated than that.”
-
Betsy was rarely ever alone. She was too busy helping the X-Men.
She had a few moments to herself though. She was never sure what to do. She couldn’t just up and leave and go out to some bar and sulk in a corner and come back drunk and angry— that’d paint her as extremely irresponsible. She didn’t want to bore or impose on the X-Men if she didn’t have to.
She wandered around the mansion. It was massive and somewhat old and stuffy looking, but also gave off those classic school vibes.
Betsy wandered into the basement at some point and quickly learned, that was where the X-Men trained, made battle and mission plans, stored their jet, Hank worked on costumes and more in his lab, and where their medical bay was kept.
She knew she shouldn’t be down there alone. Betsy wasn’t going to do anything bad, but it felt wrong.
She was watching a girl in a coma sleep. There were so many things wrong about that.
Of course, no one would really care, except for maybe Warren— but he had every good reason to.
“You keep visiting me.”
Betsy almost jumped. The voice had startled her. She thought she was alone.
“Jean?” But didn’t sound like Jean. Betsy couldn’t decipher who it was.
She sat there for another thirty minutes, hoping the voice would return, but it didn’t.
So she got up and left.
It was probably just a student. My telepathic abilities aren’t the strongest. It was probably just a student somewhere on the grounds…
She didn’t tell anyone about the voice. She didn’t want to seem crazy, because it probably didn’t mean anything.

“Hey,  guys! I found this on my google drive! It’s a bunch of videos from Xavier’s fourth of July party!” Peter had his laptop open at a table, with a few papers spread about.
Everyone, including Betsy, gathered around Peter as he played a few video clips.
It was Warren, Peter, Scott, and (Y/N) all together in the first one. They were walking in a parking lot with shopping bags in their hands.
“We just spent—” Peter cut Warren off.
“We just spent $2,000 on fireworks! Holy fuck!” Everyone else is laughing at his enthusiasm.
“Can’t Jubilee just produce fireworks? Why did we need this many anyway?”
“It’s for the American aesthetic, (Y/N)!”
They got into the car and Peter was still recording.
“Weren’t you born in Poland or something?”
“America was founded on immigration—”
The clip was cut off, and the next one played automatically. But Betsy remembered the voice. The female one. It was like the one she heard in the basement… was (Y/N) trying to contact her?
She tried to focus as the next few clips played, she needed to hear (Y/N)’s voice again.
“Kurt, look—” Peter was still recording with his smartphone, he had zoomed in on a darker part of Xavier’s. It was a tree, and two people were leaning up against it— clearly making out.
“Jean told me she went to get more popsicles!” Kurt whined.
Everyone watching was laughing, except for Scott and Jean, who were extremely embarrassed they got caught.
“You ain’t slick, Summers.”
“Shut up.”
Footsteps could be heard. “What are we doing?” (Y/N) asked.
“Look—” Kurt motioned to the couple at the tree.
“Oh, gross. They don’t even know we’re watching! And to think… Warren went inside to see what Jean was doing…”
“Well, he won’t find out,” Kurt joked.
Betsy knew she heard (Y/N) voice in the basement… but why? Was she a ghost? Did her unconscious state allow her to communicate telepathically?
She needed to go back there, alone, but she knew that was almost impossible. Hank was almost always down in the lab, and Warren was almost always visiting (Y/N).
-
That didn’t really matter to her. Betsy needed to talk to her or hear her voice again. She thought about asking Jean, but she thought that would be fruitless.
She went to visit (Y/N) again, but this time she spoke to her.
“Can you hear me?”
No response.
“My name is Betsy Braddock. I know who you are and I’m not going to hurt you.”
Betsy huffed, “This is stupid!” She got up and began to walk out.
“Wait!” Betsy froze. (Y/N) said something. “You keep visiting me…”
“I’m just curious about you,” Betsy responded.
“Why?”
“I don’t know I—”
“Betsy?” Warren’s voice was stern and almost angry. “What are you doing here?”
“I can hear her. Like, with my abilities… I know you didn’t really want me down here and I understand—”
“Then why are you here?”
“I wanted to see if I could communicate with her telepathically…” She admitted.  “That’s all. I’m not trying to wake her or anything.”
“I’m sorry… but I can hear people and it’s nice to have someone who can hear me back…”
Betsy, plagued with guilt, looked over at (Y/N), whos lifeless form hadn’t changed a bit, despite the obvious sadness in her words.
“I just feel, so bad and I don’t know why and… I ruined your life. There’s no shortcut, without me you would have left the fighting ring in less than three weeks… You’d have your feathery wings still… but I loved you and I couldn’t let go, and I thought bringing Apocalypse to you would make up for all the shit I did…”
“I was a kid. I didn’t even know what love meant! And I’m not avoiding you on purpose, I don’t resent you as much as I did when I first came here… but I don’t know what you want, okay? Our lives aren’t connected anymore, and I just want (Y/N) back...” Warren was biting down on his lip to keep himself from breaking down crying.
“Tell him I’m sorry.”
“(Y/N) said she’s sorry…”
Warren’s gaze shifted between the two girls.
“Why is she sorry?”
“All I’ve done since Christmas is make him unhappy and upset. He deserves someone who isn’t asleep for part of the year.”
“She said, you deserve someone who isn’t asleep for part of the year.”
Warren walked over to (Y/N)’s body, he held her hand in his. “It’s not about what I may or may not deserve. It’s about what I want and love.”
“I love him…”
Betsy was about to repeat what she said, but Warren was crying. He had let a single tear drip down.
It landed on (Y/N)’s hand. And soon as it did, her eyes flew open.
-
She was gasping for air, eyes squinting up at the fluorescent lights. (Y/N) heard voices.
“She’s awake…”
“It’s almost March, that might be too early—“
“—I’ll be fine,” (Y/N) interrupted. She rubbed her eyes and turned her eyes away from the lights, looking over at Warren, who was at her side, tears in his eyes.
“Betsy, go get Hank.” He instructed. Warren looked back at (Y/N), holding her hand in his, and his other cupping her cheek.
“Hi.” She murmured in a groggy tone.
“Hi.” He kissed her forehead. “I missed you.”
“I know… I’m sorry…”
“Sorry?” Warren was perplexed. “What for?”
“I couldn’t stay awake, and I hurt you, Warren. I made you cry and think you weren’t good enough for me…” She snuffled her nose.
“That’s bullshit. You could never hurt me. I was crying because I couldn’t do anything. The last time I saw you was before I went to Italy on some dumb mission— I missed you… I missed your smile, I missed how you’d make flower crowns and put them on my head, how I could go to you after a nightmare no matter what time of night it was, or how you told me I helped you become more assertive and learn it’s okay to say no, or you showing me the beauty in everything— I…” His voice was breaking, but all (Y/N) could see in his eyes was happiness.  “I can’t live without you… I love you.”
“Oh, Warren, baby…” She squeezed his hand.
Warren cupped her face with his free hand and kissed her.
That one kiss said everything he wanted to say. It let out his feelings. It had passion and swiftness backing it up, followed by his undying love for (Y/N).
She kissed him back, trying to make up for the time they’ve lost. Her lips fit prefectures against his.
It was like the first time they kissed, full of everything she wanted, except much longer, with more meaning to it.
They broke apart slowly, almost as if they didn’t want to.
“I love you too…” She murmured.

Karasuno boys + crying girlfriend
A/n: Y’all I cry a lot, like I am a big baby and I cry happy tears and sad tears frequently like watching late night videos on facebook of stray puppies and active duty military families reunited get me every single time and I am so not sorry for any of this
Also requests are open and I am done talking so please enjoy
Daichi: Something about the way he was standing there smiling at you made your knees weak and you couldn’t help yourself but start crying
Babe?! what’s wrong, what happened?
Nooo nothings wrong, you’re just so sweet
He cannot stop smiling and laughing at you because he did not expect for you to be this happy over such a small thing. After the sweetest hug (the type that squeezes almost too tight with love) and a couple of kisses to help you feel better. He should have hated seeing his girlfriend cry for any reason but he couldn’t help but smile knowing that he really does make you happy and that you really love him. The two of you decided to have a date tonight before he leaves for a weekend of volleyball with his team, so he showed up to your house with a little bag of groceries so the two of you can make cookies together. The two of you couldn’t possibly eat all of the cookies that you baked so you decorated them and bagged them up for team as a pick me up over the long weekend. You ended up making chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies and decorating all of the little cookies with each of the boy’s jersey numbers and also making little volleyball cookies as well. Little did Daichi know, you put an extra heart shaped cookie in his bag that had the two of your initials on it with an extra little heart in the middle, when he saw this he almost cried himself.
Suga: The two of you were sitting in the library studying when suddenly Suga hears Oh ouch crap  and he is immediately struck into action.  You and Sugawara had been dating for a while and you have never ever ever seen this boy react to anything faster than he reacts to you. The slightest sniffle or the word owe and he is by your side in an instant and has already asked what was the matter, he doesn’t care how serious it really is, if it upsets you it upsets him, or at least that’s what he always tells you. From looking at the scene before him he already knew that you had gotten a papercut, and a bloody one at that, all you could do was keep a hand under your finger so the blood wouldn’t spill onto your book. Not to mention it hurt a lot, and you couldn’t help but tear up. Luckily for you Suga was cool calm and collected, he pulled out a little first aid kit he keeps in his bag. He wiped the blood off of your finger and held a cotton ball to your finger to try and stop the bleeding, and had another cottonball wiping the blood that had dripped onto your other hand off and then used a purell wipe to clean off your hand. After the bleeding stopped he put a bandaid on and gave you a kiss on the cheek before throwing everything away, washing his hands and returning back to his study spot with a wink. Koushi Has done it again.
Asahi: Sitting in the theater all you can do is sob, how could they possibly kill one of the main characters and leave the other one without their one true love. Your eyes are so clouded that you can’t see the screen anymore and all you can do is try and muffle your near wailing sobs. You felt like a toddler crying in a grocery store and all you could do is squeeze your boyfriends super hard. Luckily for you, you are dating the second loudest crier in the entire theater and he’s squeezing yours right back because the two of you cannot handle the turn of events. If you were alone you would have been horribly embarrassed because the 13 year old girls don’t even compete with the sadness that has overtaken the two of you. At the end of the movie you two are seen wiping your tears and trying to compose yourselves. It was obvious that people were definitely judging the giant scary man for crying because you had several people roll their eyes at him or just so happen to mention that men who cry so easily aren’t attractive which does nothing but hurt both of your feelings more. You pull him into a big hug to keep him from crying more and the two of you leave the theater and go out for ice cream.
Nishinoya: It was a beautiful day outside and all you wanted to do was go for a walk in the park, which Yuu happily agreed to do with you. The two of you had been walking on a trail for about fifteen minutes before you fell. You didn’t trip, more of the opposite actually-you were pushed. Not by Noya but instead you were taken down by two giant curly dogs who were kissing your face and wagging their tails happily at you. Noya is instantly petting the dogs, trying to get some of the same attention they were giving you. The owner runs over in complete shock, terrified that her dogs had just taken you completely down and all they can see are
Oh my gosh I am so so sorry for my dogs, they were playing ball together just fine one moment and the next they are on top of you. I am so sorry. Are you hurt? Is everything okay?
You take a second and get yourself together before standing up and grabbing the dogs leash for the poor owner and telling her that the two of you loved dogs and that this was one of the best things that has happened to you all week. You were still sniffling because it isn’t everyday that you get two hundred pounds of happiness to take you down. After the dogs had been grabbed by their owner you and Nishinoya were both standing there for another minute trying to just take in what just happened. Lowkey Noya was super jealous that you were the one who got all of the affection from the dogs but he also made fun of you forever about crying over a dog.
Tanaka: Watching him was amazing. Tanaka had been working so hard and it finally paid off, after the years of watching him play volleyball he finally got the big win and you wanted to be the first one to congratulate your boyfriend. Once he and the team had finished their thank you’s and gotten out of the arena, you were the first person Tanaka was looking for. He pushed past everyone and tackled you into a giant hug yelling as loud as he could WE DID IT! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!! BABE WE DID IT!!  He is literally so excited that you cannot help but feel so excited for him. He’s been telling you about how this has been his dream for years and how this is the most exciting thing that could ever happen to him and bam it happened. You hug him back and tell him how proud you are of him and give him a couple of kisses before sending him to go celebrate with his team. You got takeout and were watching shows back at your house when you heard a little knock on the door. When you get to the door answer you see Tanaka standing there beaming all you can do is smile and pull him inside. He had the best time out with his teammates and is now telling you all about it. His passion and love for both volleyball and his teammates makes you so happy that you can’t help but start tearing up. He cares so much and has the biggest heart ever and you are so lucky to call him yours. He keeps talking for a couple minutes before he notices that you’re crying Babe!?! What’s wrong!?! Was it all of my talk about volleyball? I’m sorry please stop crying. He panics like usual and you stop him in his tracks with a short but sweet kiss and all of his worries fade because his girl just kissed him and he’d be an idiot not to kiss you back. You smile at him before he leans in and gives you a loving kiss, the two of you makeout for a while before he gives you one of his giant smiles and mutters I love you so much babe
Yamaguchi: You and Yamaguchi were out window shopping and just walking the aisles of the little shop when a little girl bumps into you. You lean down and ask who she is when you notice that she’s crying and you and Yamaguchi freak out a little bit because you can’t see her mom...ooohh…. She lost her mom. You scoop the little girl into your arms and grab Yamaguchi’s hand and start down every aisle to find her mom. The two of you go through almost every aisle together with no luck. You started to panic and gave each other the silent look of Oh crap what happens if we can’t find her mom? And lucky for you just as you were losing hope you found her mom with another little girl who just so happened to look exactly like the girl in your arms crying on the floor of the store. Her mom immediately ran over to you and thanked you two repeatedly for helping get her back to you, and she didn’t know that she had escaped in the madness of her sister crying. The mom told you that they were twins and they were each other’s best friends and they hated seeing each other cry. As you and Yamaguchi left the store you were so happy that you let a few tears split because the two little girls were just so sweet.
Kageyama: You were on your period and it was one of those hormonal awful crying messy days that you hated. You told Kags to stay away from you today because you were just going to be emotional and didn’t want him to suffer along with you. Little did you know that he took this as an invitation to come over with one of his giant hoodies and snacks (his milky drinks and cookies) ready to cuddle on the couch. He showed up and pulled you on the couch together and you both watched an episode of Shark Tank and yelled at the entrepreneurs because they had awful ideas. You ended up dozing off at some point and when you wake up Kageyama is gone. You sat up and looked for any signs that he was still there, nothing, no snacks, no cups not even his hoodie. He really left you without saying goodbye. You get all emotional and start to cry because he knows that you hate when people leave unexpectedly and that it makes you nervous. Seconds later Kageyama walks back into the living room with a glass of milk and is shocked to see you crying. You pull yourself together because that’s what any hormonal bitch learns to do and smiles at him really big while patting the spot on the couch right next to you.
Hinata: It wasn’t everyday that you and Hinata tried learning Tik Tok dances but when you do it’s always an adventure. You were trying to learn one of the really cute couples dances that you had seen and for the most part it was going great. You swerved left and he swerved right then you both would spin around each other and continue dancing. The two of you almost got this down perfectly until Hinata forgot the next part and accidentally smacked you straight in the face. You have never seen him apologize faster, he immediately wraps you in a big hug and tells you how sorry he is and that he really does love you. You sniffle a little bit but his overwhelming affection made it not hurt as bad. He was so relieved that you were okay because if you weren’t we couldn’t have forgave himself.
Tsukishima: Studying with Tsuki is super common, you’re a good student and so is he but after two hours of studying you felt like you knew nothing. Not the “I know nothing” that you can pass with a 70 but you literally have spent hours and could get a 20% at best. You were overwhelmed and couldn’t figure it out, Tsuki is a sweetheart and was going through each question one by one with you but no matter what you couldn’t figure it out and kept getting question after question wrong. It was probably the tenth in a row and you were frustrated with yourself and you can tell that he was starting to get frustrated with you. You can’t help but start tearing up because you’re wasting his time and you cannot learn this stupid material. Tsuki is looking at you with his usual stoic face as you start to cry. He gets up and sits behind you and pulls your back to his chest and he presses little kisses to your shoulder and neck. He is super calm and just runs his fingers through your hair and tells you that you know what you're doing and that you’re just stressed out and that he’ll work with you until you have it completely down. The two of you just sit there for a couple of minutes before he gets up and starts quizzing you again. Every time you answer a question right he gives you a little kiss and every time you get it wrong he explains it and then gives you a little kiss anyway.
Ukai: Stop, no stop following me Y/N I don’t love you anymore please leave me alone please stop talking to me I don’t want you anymor- You were suddenly shaken awake
Babe, hey Y/N what’s wrong? Are you okay? He wraps his arms around you and pulls you to his chest panicked that something is wrong or that he doesn’t know he just is worried that you were crying in your sleep.
It was a bad dream, a really bad dream You choke out before starting to sniffle again
Ukai puts his hands on both sides of your face and pulls you closer to him Hey, no it’s okay I’m here for you and I love you so much, do you want to talk about it?
I went to go visit you in the shop and you told me that you didn’t love me and that I needed to leave me alone because you didn’t care about me anymore and I just couldn’t handle it   You roll over and rest your head on his chest as he reassures you and tells you that he loves you so much and that you are his forever and if you ever have a dream like that again you should punch fake him a couple of times so that he comes to his senses and you two stay like that just mindlessly chatting and adoring each other until you fall asleep on his chest

Masklophobia: Chapter 6
Karl's Paradise- 02x04: My Webby Valentine
Now onto the 4th episode of the 2nd season. It's a... ...god damn Valentine's Day special. As you can tell by the title. Anyways, let's dive right in, shall we?
The episode begins with that hillbilly lizard, who's at the start of every episode, taking a nap by the "Welcome to the Paradise" sign. He then awakens, yawns, then a cartoon bee flew into his mouth. He choked for a while, then eventually spat it out. Next, the show pans to the Paradise town, festive in Valentine's Day decorations. We witness a lot of heteronormativity coming from the stock puppet characters. After that, we cut to the Paradise Critters.
More random puppet characters are fishing by the lake, when Fins popped up, holding a bouquet of roses, saying "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! *Chuckles*" The fisher puppets come to take a closer look at the roses, and sniff them, but then water had sprayed out. She laughed, then presented them with real roses as a "No hard feelings" apology.
Cut to Junior; He was in school, where his classmates were having a card exchange. A female student (named Shirley) was two seats away from him. Shirley was a dog puppet, with pigtail like ears, and she appeared to be checking Junior out. Ughhhh, forced romance on eight year-olds. She stared at Junior as she watched him sort through his box of cards, just carelessly shuffling and making himself a mess. The mammoth stopped as he picked something up: Chocolate candies with a card attached. Shirley seemed to be fullfilled, implying that it came from her. Unfortunately, Junior crumbled up the card, tossed it aside, then ate the candies. Shirley was left heartbroken. "Boys..."
We then now cut to the Happy Belly Diner. Yum-Yum was placing a bunch of Valentines Day treats, including a punch bowl, on the counter. Barkstone and Saxxo stared in awe. Mama LongLegs was in the background, hovering over a bowl of soup. Back to Yum-Yum, she said that King Karl had chosen her to be the caterer for this year's Valentine's Day ballroom party. She let Saxxo have a sample of one of them. After trying one, he commented with glee.
"Mmm, mmm mmm! This some hearty, heart filled goodness right here, Yums! Although... Maybe ah should try another batch-"
"Don't you dare, honey! These are for the Lovers Ball! But... ...if you're still hungry, I whipped you up a special Valentine gift."
Yum-Yum presented Saxxo with a small gift box. Inside the box were Valentine's Day sugar cookies, shaped like hearts.
"Aw, mama, this awfully SWEET of you. Wish ah had the time to make you somethin'."
"No need for that. Just keep up with them soothin', jim-dandy melodies."
"Oh! Perhaps ah can treat you to a personal, live performance. You gonna dig this tune! Ah wrote it specially for the Lovers Ball!"
"Interesting. Do you have a name for it?" Asked Barkstone.
"Yes indeedy, man! It's called 'Gonna Take Super Sticky Glue To Keep Me Close To You!'"
While Saxxo played some smooth jazz on his saxophone, the next segment transitioned. It was a beautiful, pencil drawn animation, with a harp score, about a cupid helping a sad, lonely boy cheer up by hooking him up with a girl. ... Apparently, romance is the key to find happiness. Good animation. Bad message.
We're back to the Happy Belly Diner scene, except it's filmed from the outside, with Van Goose coming up. Before she enters the diner, she ran into Mama LongLegs coming out.
"Hahppy Vahlentine's day, Meess LahngLegs!"
"Ohhhh, *Stomps foot down* bah humbug!"
The spider storms away angrily, leaving Van Goose confused. As she entered, Saxxo stops and greets the bird.
"Ees eet just me, or ees LahngLegs up een seex ahrms?"
"Mm. It ain't just you, babeh. She has been quiet around this room, sittin' all by herself while lookin' so gloom." Said Saxxo.
"I'll say. She ordered herself some soup, and told me to hold the fly." Said Yum-Yum.
"Fortunately, there is a basis behind this tale. The poor lady arachnid is faced with another lonely episode on the most romantic day of the year! The day where she once believed she had a chance to find the love she's been yearning for, but now accepted the fact that it would just turn out the same dull way as always. Well, it's not her fault for being so unattractive." Said Barkstone.
Saxxo and Yum-Yum both smacked the blue dog for that last statement. The four fell into a discussion on how they wanted to cheer Mama LongLegs up. Barkstone suggested that they let her be. Yum-Yum suggested that they find a man for her, who won't be repulsed by her looks. (Maybe a literal blind date) Saxxo suggested they each give her a gift to make her feel better. Suddenly, a lightbulb appeared over Van Goose's head, indicating that she had an idea.
We pan to the outside of LongLegs's cottage, then inside of her cottage, where we find her knitting webs. She made herself a sweater, complained about how ugly it looked, then dealt with the fact that she might as well wear an ugly sweater, since she would never catch true love anyways. The doorbell rang. LongLegs threw her sweater on the floor, then marched angrily to answer the door.
"Can't a lady go through an emotional state in peace?!"
Nobody was there. Well, something was there. On her doorstep, there was a basket, which contents were a bouquet of flowers, a heart shaped box, and an envelope sealed off with a heart sticker. She took the basket inside. The flowers were an assortment of different colors and varieties, and smelled like a breezy garden. Inside the box were chocolate covered grasshoppers. They looked yummy, and tasted like they came from an expensive candy store. The letter was a romantic poem.
"Each passing day and each passing night, I wish I could keep you in my sight. With your stellar talent, I knew you had broke the mold. All six arms of yours I wish to hold. Let's reprise Miss Muffet, add in a little twist. Whereas instead of running away, it ends with a kiss. You are the spice providing the flavor. I'd like to meet you sometime later. With love... ...your secret admirer."
Mama LongLegs was so delighted, she began to break into song. I am not gonna recite it for you. It's pretty forgettable. Anyways, it was about her wondering what her secret admirer is like. Is he tall, short, fair, or dark? Is he slender, or a brawny champ? Is he an elegant duke, or a wild bad boy? Throughout the song, we are taken into her cartoon visualizations. She imagined her man to be another spider of some sort. Marvel Comics' Spider-Man was deemed the "brawny champ" of the song.
"I don't know what he is, or what he looks like. All I know is that I finally found someone who admires me deeply. Wait, 'I'd like to meet you sometime later.' *Happily squeals* Ohhh boy! Ohhh girl! I betcha he'll be there at the Lovers Ball! Oh, but what shall I wear? I can't be seen in this old thing on a special night like this! How's my breath?! My hair is way too uptight!"
Meanwhile, watching from the window outside;
"'I'd like to meet you sahmetime lahtair?' ees zat whaht we wahnted hare to believe?!" Van Goose snapped.
"I'm sorry, babeh. Ah was runnin' low on time to tell a rhyme, so ah improvised. Is that a crime?" Saxxo replied.
"What if we just tell her that the Lovers Ball is probably not the time her secret admirer had in mind?" Asked Yum-Yum.
"Because zen she'd question us on how we knew zat hare secret ahdmeerair wahnted to meet hare sahmetime lahtair. eet just gives eet ahll ahway."
"You have a good point. What do we do now?"
Unfortunately for Barkstone, he had plans.
"I'd love to help you untangle out of this WEB, but I have to get ready for the Lovers Ball tonight. I have a date with a purebred Maltese!"
The magician dog disappeared in a puff of smoke. The three other Critters coughed, and started fanning away the smoke.
"Why, I don't believe him! There's only five hours away till the ball, and he just gave us the bum's rush! Boy am I surprised he managed to land himself a date."
Yum-Yum's complaint gave Van Goose a new idea.
"I sink I cahme up weeth a new nahtion!"
"Sink is right. We sure sunk."
"No, Saxxo, no! Sink! Sink! Idea! I mean I've gaht a new plahn!"
"New plan? Well, why didn't ya say so? Lay it on us!"
"You see: LahngLegs ees hahpeeng fahr hare secret ahdmeerair to be ze perfect mahn, right? Hut whaht eef we try to cahnveence hare zat he's naht whaht she'd expect?"
Yum-Yum and Saxxo liked the plan, and they slapped both of Van Goose's wings a high-five. We cut to the next skit, where it's a humorous cartoon that tells the tale about animals "expressing their love" in different ways than humans. I'm pretty sure that's what animals do before they mate. Of course, kid shows shouldn't let kiddies know that the animals fuck.
Now we're down to the LabRat segment. Same opening with the eerie enterance and organ music, blah blah blah. Pan to LabRat. It appears he is working on one of those chemical setups. I don't know science, sorry. All the chemicals are then transferred into this cologne bottle, then the rat seals it. Eger appears, and he has a potted flower on his head for no reason.
"Hello, master!"
"Why hi, Eger. How has- Eger, you have a potted flower on your head."
"Ohhhhh, that's funny! So do I! Anyways; Happy Valentine's Day, master!"
Eger gives LabRat a Valentine card, where it said "You blinded me with science."
"Awwwwww, Eger, you shouldn't have. Really."
"So, what did you get me?"
LabRat panicked for a moment, and searched around his labcoat to find something. He then pointed to a fake distraction so that Eger would turn his head. LabRat grabbed the potted flower, and gave it to him.
"It's lovely! Now I have a match for the one on my head! So, what have you been cooking up, master?"
"Oh, it's a device that will put an end to all loneliness."
"An ever-lasting pet rock?"
"No! Even better! *Turns the bottle around to reveal the labled name* A love potion!"
"Love potion? Love potion, master?"
"Yes, love potion! By just applying a small dose of this highly concentrated pheromone, the scent will lure in the love of your life!"
"Master, I don't think it's a good idea to force love on someone like that. Love takes time."
"Love takes forever. (Or in my highschool case, love takes never)"
"But master, it doesn't sound right! Love is too precious to mess with! A girl has a life of her own, you know? Why not just use the basic steps to winning the female species?"
Damn, this is probably the only time Eger had some decent sense. Also, I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear the term "female species." Eger then brought out a presentation board with all the steps.
"Try being nice to her, like she were a person like you. Talk to each other to find out what you like in one another. Give her some pretty flowers. Then that's it! You don't need no stinkin' love potion."
"You have pointed out some very good details, Eger. But with my pride, the heck with it! I need a date to the Lovers Ball!"
Dismissing Eger's advice, LabRat told his assistant to stand by the door. He dabbed himself with the love potion, only at his arms and behind one of his ears. Then he told Eger to release the test subjects. Eger opened the door, to let in a couple of female puppet characters. If they were standing outside of the cellar this whole time, how come we didn't see them in the segment's intro? LabRat freshened his breath with breath spray and he put on a bowtie.
One of them approached the rat. Instead of giving him affection, she slapped him across the face. Another one came over, and stomped on his foot. The third one pushed him over. Finally, they all joined together for a good rat beating. Can't say he didn't deserve it. When they were done, the ladies exited the cellar in disgust. We pan to LabRat lying belly down on the floor. Eger hovered over him. When LabRat asked Eger to help him up, he just hit him on the snout.
"Bad master!"
Eger left to join the ladies, leaving LabRat alone in his lab. Groaning in pain, the rat picked himself up, using the nearby counter for support.
"Ya know, I've truly learned something from all of this."
You may think he has learned his lesson on not to probe a woman's feelings, but no, he decided to relabel his new invention as "hate potion."
The last animated skit of the episode, we watch yet another lovely animation (stop motion) about candy hearts forming the word "Valentine," then into a beating heart. We then transition to the night scene, outside of the Lovers Ball. Pan to inside, everyone is having a ball. Dancing with their partners, eating, drinking punch. Saxxo was performing on stage. Slouch was the security, but currently sleeping on the job.
Barkstone was wearing a black tuxedo, Yum-Yum wore a skirt and some jewerly, Saxxo wore a sequin suit, Van Goose wore a white tuxedo top, and Mama LongLegs had a red dress, pearl necklace, and her hair tied in a ponytail. Speaking of Mama LongLegs, she was sitting at a table for two, all by herself. Van Goose was at the buffet table, getting herself some punch, while watching the poor spider await for her Prince Charming. A pig puppet approached her table.
"Is this seat taken, ma'am?"
"Yes!"
"By who?"
"My dreamboat, that's who!"
"Where is he?"
"He'll be here, eventually!"
"Has he arrived yet?"
"No, but he will!"
"Mind if I warm up this chair for him while you wait?"
"TO THE MOON, PORKCHOPS!"
Mama LongLegs raised her voice, causing the pig to scurry. Van Goose went over to Yum-Yum, who brought over another tray of hors d'oeuvres, and told her to act now. The bear came up to LongLegs' table, helping herself to a seat. LongLegs was confused at first, because she was expecting a man.
"Hey, LongLegs. How have you been, hun?"
"Ahhh, I've been doing fabulous now that I've found love on this day to celebrate! Heeheehee. Now please get out of that chair before he gets here and thinks I gave his seat away."
"Oh, you met someone? I'm very happy for you! What's this fella like?"
"Well, we didn't exactly met, but we're expecting to meet here, at the Lovers Ball. He implied it in the letter he sent me. *Gives letter to Yum-Yum* Along with some chocolate covered grasshoppers and fragrant flowers. Now, may you pardon yourself-"
"*Pretends to read note* Oh my goodness. Uh-uh, oh my goodness. Tsk tsk tsk."
"What is it?"
"Hun, I think I recognize this handwriting. I don't know his name in particular, but I do know who this came from. This dude dropped by the Happy Belly Diner a few weeks back. Gracious, I've never seen such a messy eater in my life. He slurps his stew, shoves his entire plate clean in one bite, and digs his face, literally, into his dessert. Talk about animal manners. Messy, messy, messy."
"Ooooooohhh, sounds like he has the appetite of a real predator! I like that in guys."
Well, that failed nicely. After being politely asked to move from the chair one last time, Yum-Yum excused herself. She then broke the news to Van Goose, on how LongLegs was excited to know that there's someone who eats more disgustingly than her. Van Goose decided to ask Saxxo next. Meanwhile, Yum-Yum found a sad, lonely old man. ...dog. Drowning his sorrows in punch.
"You seem under the weather there, Barkstone."
"Well don't rain on my parade."
"Had trouble with your date?"
"Like that's any of your business!"
"Okay-"
"She left me for this feeble, puny little Chihuahua. I'll never understand women."
Elsewhere, Saxxo was playing the tune he showed us earlier in the episode. Suddenly, Van Goose called him from behind the red curtains. The show still had to go on, so Saxxo put someone else in his place. A rabbit puppet that played the spoons. Saxxo went behind the red curtains, then came out covered in roller bandages, and walked with a cane. King Karl witnessed the whole affair, which got him to be suspicious. The tiger limped as fast as he could to Mama LongLegs.
"Oh jeez, Saxxo! What happened to you?!"
"That fella... Your secret admirer... Earlier that day, Ah was just all cool, playin' mah music to go, when ah bumped into HIM! He a bad dude! I'm not talkin' bout the good kind of bad!"
"HE did this to you?"
"Uh-huh. I wanted to pass by, and forget the whole thang ever happened, but this man got issues! He battered me to a pulp, and was well aware that ah was uncapable of defending myself. Look at dis body and say otherwise!"
"Golly! He must be such a strong, sturdy hunk! (I think I'm in love!)"
"What about me?!"
"Well, you did bump into him without saying 'excuse me.'"
That plan backfired as well. The only option left was to tell Mama LongLegs the truth. Before Van Goose got to say anything to LongLegs, Barkstone made a dramatic entrance with a puff of smoke. He was now sitting in that chair, wearing a ridiculous spider costume, and a false mustace.
"Sorry I'm late, madam! My limo needed repair. Might I introduce myself: I am John George Henry Lewis Raphael III! Owner of the largest oil company in the Paradise, and The First National Kidney Donor Bank!"
Van Goose tugged Barkstone by his false mustace and whispered into his ear.
"Bahrkstahne, whaht ahre you doing?"
"Helping out, of course. You owe me big time in this, by the way."
The dog continued to chat with LongLegs. You couldn't tell by her face, but her tone showed that she wasn't falling for it. ...and ready to kill.
"My, you sure are lovely on this fine night! Did anyone ever tell you that you look better in the dark lighting?"
"Barkstone... ...what is this?"
King Karl appeared and asked "Yes, what is this," but in a lighthearted manner. After Van Goose painfully tore off the false mustace from Barkstone's face, she explained everything. Since LongLegs' bad mood and losing hope in Valentine's Day, Van Goose decided to make up a fake admirer so that LongLegs knows that she is loved. Barkstone provided the flowers (magically), Yum-Yum made the chocolate covered grasshoppers, and Saxxo wrote the poem. Van Goose guided them.
She also explained that they never intented to have this secret admirer meet Mama LongLegs, but had no choice because Saxxo got carried away in the rhymes. King Karl lectured the four Critters. He told them that it's never okay to fool somebody's feelings, and quotes that love is too delicate to mess with. There are many alternatives to making your friends happy, especially on Valentine's Day. Van Goose timidly stepped up to Mama LongLegs, and apologized for all that has happened.
"We're ahll equally sahrry, LahngLegs. We just wahnted to mahke you hahppy, ahnd breeng your speerit een Vahlentine's Day bahck, because we cahre fahr you. We nevair meant to breeng such hahrm."
Mama LongLegs hesitated for a moment.
"As much as I want to be mad at you, it's just impossible knowing I have friends who love me so much. I guess the best Valentine a woman can ever have is her own friends."
Van Goose and Mama LongLegs hugged things out. The others joined in too, even Barkstone, only because the moment was too heartwarming to ignore. Before the episode ends for good, and the credits roll, it's Paradise Fun-Time, which Van Goose shows us how to make crafty Valentine's Day cards. Seems more relevant than any of the hacks from 5-Minute Crafts. Catch you later, loves!
