Alphys: looks like the original alphys but with ink splotches everywhere on her skin. She doesnt really leave the lab often. Dont bother her while she's working. She likes her job as the royal scientist. She has a slight crush on undyne.

I have been roleplaying for about 8-9 years and am very detailed in my responses! I try to match replies so if it's short then it's short or if it's long then it's long. I am a writer so I do put in details from time to time that may be too much so if that is ever the case please lmk and I'll tone it down.

He questioned, a slight country drawl to his words, something that often came out when he drank too much or got emotional enough. Despite living in New York for years now, he never shook off that Midwestern talk.

Logan Howlett, by far the oldest of the whole table at the moment, gave a small snort as he let out the smoke of his cigar. "A rock? No. Runnin' for our lives is more like it. Not every day for pleasantries or domesticity." He stated firmly, before setting down a red reverse card onto the short pile. "Your turn, bub. . ." He leaned back in his seat with a huff.

Hey! Saw your essay about the inconsistencies. Ah ye. When contrasting the Httyd movies with the shows, I like to not take it all that seriously. "But the shows are canon!!!!!" the shows are a beautiful and meaningful AU of the movies and vice versa; I've fared wonderfully treating them like that. Keeping the good parts for inspo and tossing the rest tbh.

E.g. I'm keeping Dagur and Viggo and the Fireworms for canon. Maybe there was an outpost called Dragon's Edge once, but I like to think to myself that Hiccup merely used it as a weekend base camp / storehouse for further explorations rather than actually living there for extended periods of time. He had to make all his Httyd2 improvements on Berk somehow within those five years lol. He would have had to abandon Dragon's Edge wayyy earlier to be able to have a constant presence on his home island that would earn him the village's support and Stoick's eye regarding Chieftainship. I'm definitely keeping the volcano eruption though. Also the Buffalord, the amazing Season 4 Hiccstrid kiss, the Night Terrors and Chicken. And of course the gang becoming better friends.

...On the other hand I'm definitely treating Heather, Mala, the Wingmaidens and all the dragons I don't personally like as vivid fever dreams lol. I'm also ignoring the comics. Had Hiccup truly encountered Viggo and gone through all of that Rtte character development canonically, he wouldn't have acted as naive as he did in Httyd2... Viggo already taught him better than that.

Those are just my two cents, they are also helping me embrace such things as Homecoming etc.

If you could build your canon however you liked, what would you keep? :)

I don't know if you meant it like this but I do want to clarify that I adore the first 2 movies, GotNF, LotB, RoB, DoB, and RttE. And I like elements of Httyd 3 and Homecoming, but not them in general.

(I have no intention of reading the comics - they don't interest me).

Criticising stuff I like, and pulling it apart to see how it ticks is literally my biggest hobby, so, no problems enjoying it there.

I would honestly keep most of it, so here's a list of some of what I'd remove instead:

The inconsistencies between httyd 1 ending and RoB opening - mostly to do with the dragons' integration into Berk and the new infrastructure for the dragons.

Stoick's inconsistent and easily swayed opinion on the dragons - he would never allow them to be banished from Berk unless he was physically forced to. They saved Hiccup's life, they pretty much are Hiccup's life, and he would never dishonour Valka's memory by going against her ideals (esp since her son basically redeemed her weirdness by proving her right 15 years later).

Gothi's role - she shouldn't be the only healer on Berk, she shouldn't even be a healer. They made new characters for Mulch, Bucket, Mildew, Johann, Silent Sven, Alvin, Savage, Dagur and Heather (and most of those are males) so just kick one of those out and build a new healer for Berk (bonus points if its a relation of one of the Riders e.g. a Thorston).

Johann's villain arc - I've talked about this a lot already so I won't repeat myself but this was an atrocious direction to take.

Gruffnut. the man annoys me - his design is lazy, his voice is annoying, he has an intruiging opportunity to add depth to the thorstons but is never utilised

Agnut. same as above

Astrid being in love with Hiccup but only in a conventional "im a woman and I will get jealous at any opportunity" kind of way

Gustav's lack of character development

the A team should not include those characters. Bucket and Mulch are farmers WHAT are they doing here. Gothi is old as fuck and she's got important shit to be doing (like apparently being the ONLY healer on Berk - srsly what r u gonna do when she dies?). Spitelout is on the Berk Council and is one of the main leaders of their military, why would he want to be bossed around by a 19 yro. the only one who makes sense is Gustav.

why does Astrid have to build the A team at all?? shouldn't Stoick or the entire military force of Berk teach themselves to use dragons to fight off invaders????

Astrid being so inconsistent with her suspicions and cautions.

Astrid randomly deciding to be Mother to dragons like Garf and throwing away all her military training and paranoia to bring said dragons on actual military operations??? like just say you needed a conflict and picked The Woman to throw under the bus.

The Wingmaidens - they're an obvious scramble to add female characters but they fall short on believability and worldbuilding.

The Bewilderbeast beneath Beserker Island. I don't like how... fucky.. this makes the plot. We didn't need this, we could have just ended on Johann & Krogan heading towards Valka's mountain, which could explain why Hiccup was still exploring the archipelago in httyd 2. then we could have done a post-credits-esque scene with Valka decimating Johann and Krogan. boom, vibes preserved, plotholes kind of prevented.

ok theres probably a lot more but this was all i could think of. Ik it looks like a lot but most of it is just tweaking canon. the majority of RoB, DoB, and RttE are wonderful. otherwise I wouldn't give half of a shit about them.

Hiccup is only mildly surprised when he wakes up again after taking nearly an entire box worth of painkillers. Of course, it wouldn’t work. Of course, they stopped him. Even this, he couldn’t choose.

He’s lying on a bed in the medical bay, hooked up to a heart monitor, an IV, the usual. If he’d been allowed to feel, his body would probably feel awful after what he put it through. One probably wouldn’t be able to tell from looking at his face either. His stare remains the same.

There are sounds next to him and sluggishly he turns his head to find his mother getting up from a chair. Strange, she doesn’t tend to sit next to him when he has disappointed her.

“Do you realize what you tried to do?” She asks in the most frighteningly calm voice. There are Wingmaidens standing near the door, Atali is one of them. There is Nadia, Dina, still no sign of Minden, which gives him comfort. It means Astrid is safe, right?

To outsiders it would look like Valka’s question goes unanswered, but they know that isn’t the truth. Hiccup can’t talk, can’t properly write, can’t learn sign language either, so their entire communication is done through their link. And he tells her that he knows exactly what he did.

He was taking her toy away from her.

“I… know…” Just in case the Wingmaidens also needed to know. He feels a spike in his constantly present migraine. At least Toothless’ relief that he’s okay is poured into him. Hiccup can feel the fear he felt, his every thought telling him that he’s not mad, that he doesn’t blame him.

Valka sighs almost in resignation. First his betrayal and now this. She leans forward and grabs hold of the railings of the bed. There is not a single change in her son’s expression as he looks up at her, not that she should expect one. But when she finds no remorse on his end, she knows that it’s over. She lost his loyalty the second she made him and Toothless kill that man.

While he was running, while he was unarmed, while he was scared.

Hiccup won’t allow her to manipulate him again.

“It’s not your fault,” his mother is truthful as she tells him. “I never should’ve trusted you to begin with.”

Then she reaches a hand out and strokes his cheek, which he can’t even feel. It would’ve been a motherly gesture if it didn’t have such a possessive context.

“But there is still potential inside of you and I can’t let that go to waste. I’ll have to start over, but I’ll give yo u the rest you want,” in their shared “hivemind” Hiccup can tell exactly what she means to do and a bout of panic wells up. He’s not certain if it’s his own or Toothless’, who can follow this entire exchange.

Valka pulls that tiny remote from her pocket, the one that stopped his breathing before and it makes him wonder for just how long she’s been walking around with that thing. Did she pull it out for the first time when she realized he was breaking Astrid out? Did she have it as a precaution ever since he dealt so badly with that man’s death? Since his return? Or has it been there all along?

She presses a button in his view, she holds it up just for his benefit.

And suddenly he’s blacking out. A tiredness so overwhelming washes over him, it’s so strong that he falls asleep almost immediately, his eyes are slipping closed.

His last thoughts go out to his dragon, to the closest people he’s had to friends in his entire 20 years of life, and his father. Who he never got to see again, not even once.

I think a lot of my fics end pretty happy, but I think one of the happiest ones is Angels In Hell's Kitchen (Daredevil. About Matt Murdock having a good day for once).

Nope. And I never will 😅 makes me much too uncomfortable (I never read it either). Both because that's just how I am personally and for religious reasons. But I do love writing wholesome romance!

I do! I only posted one tho, and that was literally the first fic I ever wrote 😭 it was a crossover between Newsies and In the Heights, where Jack and Usnavi run away from New York. I do have several crossover WIPs though!! Including but not limited to: a Narnia/The Hobbit crossover, a Narnia/His Dark Materials crossover, a HTTYD/Wings of Fire crossover, and a Daredevil/Batman crossover!

Resurrection (615) (HTTYD/MCU) 4. My Kingdom. My Throne. my Queen. (317) (The Empyrean) 5. Part of our 'us' (311) (The Empyrean) I crossed out Resurrection because I didn't write this one, I was just one of the alpha-readers. But this shows so well how little Kudos really say about a fic. The two Miraculous fics there? I love them, but especially Keeping The Facade is just a cute/angsty little smutshot for a (relative) rarepair. That fandom is/was just so huge that the hits/Kudos catapult it up there to the top. In comparisson, FTLOAP is my big epic story, close to 400k words, many years of planning and writing. That just doesn't measure up.

5. Do I respond to comments?

I try to, yes. I just have this thing where I only respond to comments (in longer stories) when I'm about to post the followup-chapter. Which leads to... some comments never getting answers when I fail to keep writing. Or comments on previous chapters getting lost in my inbox. 😶

6. What has the angstiest ending?

Thats's difficult. 🤔 I don't even remember all my fics anymore. 😅 But I think that must be 'Follow Your Heart', at least without the (optional) sequals.

7. What has the happiest ending?

I feel like all my fics (with few exceptions) end on a lovely happy fluffy note. That's just my thing, and trying to pin down which is the happiest doesn't work.

8. Have I received hate?

Oh, yes! Some years ago, there as a dedicated Anon in the HTTYD fandom, who methodically attacked every writer who didn't write their fav couple as 'pure' as they wanted them to be. They would write loooong and elaborate comments about aaaaaaall the things we as writers did wrong and how that clearly reflects how awful people we are in RL. The fandom banded together to drive them away, but... those there some rough months.

9. Do I write smut? And what kind?

YES! I love writing (and reading) smut. 😁 There's always an underlying tone of emotions and devotion and love in my smut, even or especially when I dive into BDMS and D/s dynamics.

10. Do I write crossovers?

Not really. There are fics in my list that are 'tagged' as crossover, but they're really just characters from one fandom slipping into the world of another. Like modern AUs, in a way, or the [Hiccup=the doctor, Eret=Capt. Jack Harkness, Astrid=T.A.R.D.I.S.] thing I once wrote. Or random (disney) characters showing up as background characters in some httyd fics.

11. Have I ever had a fic stolen?

No, thankfully not. Or at least I'm not aware of it. But someone once stole one of my AMVs, and it felt awful.

12. Have I ever had a fic translated?

Someone once asked me for permission to translate one of my fics. But in the middle of it, their government shut down the fanfic platform they were using, so they never finished the tranlsation.

13. Have I ever co-written a fic?

I have! Though never in an equal share. I've helped and received help in the form of alpha reading, which at some points feels like co-writing (but isn't). And I wrote a fic with a friend (though not under my general name 😅) where I would contribute full chapters here and there after we talked about the general plot points. That was so much fun! 🥰

14. What is my all-time fave ship?

I don't think this is a question I can answer. Maybe I can say that Hiccstrid is the ship that had the biggest influence on my life, for various reasons, but naming them my all-time fave would diminish what I feel about other important ships.

15. A WIP I'll never finish

Uh... probably too many to count. But I can say for certain that I'll never finish 'Astrid's Diary'. It was a POV fic, the first HTTYD movie and the TV show from Astrid's POV. But the background story I had in mind died a quiet sad death with the release of more seasons, and I lost interest in either writing my version or adapting it to the new canon.

16. Writing strengths?

Dialogues and emotions, or so I've been told.

17. Writing weaknesses?

Descriptions of places, how something looks. My brain works 100% non-visual and that makes it hard to a) imagine how a place or a person looks and b) to describe it once I made the effort to build the look up in my head. I just go by vibes.

18. Do I like foreign language dialogue?

Not really. As English is already a foreign laguage for me, bringing in others feels weird to me. Except for that one time I had a multi-lingual character who'd always slip into cursing in other languages during sex. That was a lot of fun. 😁

19. First fandom I wrote for?

I... have no idea. Maybe 'Saber Rider and the Star Sherrifs' or maybe 'Detective Conan'. Though in both cases, I didn't even realise something like 'fanfiction' existed, I was just writing for myself. Then I wrote half of a Divergent fic after reading a few others. The first fic I ever published was for HTTYD.

20. Favourite fic I've written?

I can absolutely not answer this question. Sure, I might like some of my fics better than others, but I also 'love' all of them. But generally, I think I like my longer fics the most. The entire 'I Should Go' series, NOOT, WIMTBC, and FTLOAP for HTTYD. WTWMOR for Miraculous. MtO and the Violiaden Series for Fourth Wing.

Hello, this is a quick collection of all my work as a small writer. Basically links to my Ao3 stories and short summaries. Current fandoms include, Httyd, Pokemon (specifically Legends Arceus and submas), Spyro, and a (old, also bad) fnaf story. Fair warning, pretty much every story has at least one character losing their humanity to some degree. I also don't writing romance as I'm decently confidently I'm aroace to some degree and don't know how to writing it... so I don't.

The Queen's Demand Httyd oneshot. Basically Hiccup becomes a half dragon.

The Dragon Mage: Horrible Beginnings Httyd. Part one of a planned trilogy. Basic premise is a Magic AU.

Rise of the Soul Bonded Draugr Httyd. A stand alone story. It's a weird one with a rushed start. Not my best work. Basically Soulmate/spirit animal mix with necromancer Red Death.

Ghost of a Future Problem Pokemon Legends Arceus. Zoroark Oc story, profile icon for reference. Don't want to spoil too much, but it starts with a dead body.

Ghostly Rage Pokemon Legends Arceus and crossover with another creators work. Original work made by patriamrealm here on tumblr titled The Iceland Ghost. Idea was a story about putting a character in the background and gaining a Zoroark aspect.

Vengeance of the Lost Continuation of Ghostly Rage that makes splits it away from the original work by making the Oc interact with more character and taking a more active role.

Warming Frosted Souls (with Ice Cream) Final part of Ghostly Rage Story because I couldn't leave it alone. Takes place in present Unova.

Perception of man (It's a lot worse than you think) Indulgent story about a Zoroark taking the place of the protag of pokemon Black and White. Uses Ocs from Hoofpeet though they aren't doing anything with the characters anymore.

Dragon... Species? Pokemon Legend Arceus and Spyro Trilogy crossover. Warning warp speed writing. It was an impulse story that didn't have a ending in mind when it was started.

Hell isn't What is Seems Fnaf Security Breach. This was first ever story. It extremely self indulgent and not very good as it is essentially everything and anything I wanted to throw into a story. In hindsight it is a bad story.

Ocs

Zork GoFP Description: true form is an extremely large Hisuian Zoroark by the end of the story, about 3x regular size. Starts off regular size and wears red jacket with a similarly colored Gear Station Depot agent hat. Also has a sword with the Twin Dragon's head carved into the crossguard. Human form is an extremely pale man with long white hair. Wear's the same clothes at his Zoroark form, though he stops wearing them outside of the hat after growing in that form. Also has sickly yellow irises when pretending to be human. Overview: Worked as security at Gear Station, specializing in taking care threats a pokemon battle couldn't. IE, drunks, sore losers, people with weapons, Team Plasma. Refused to use pokemon to keep skills sharp and it throw people off. Pretty mad at Arceus after death and protective of those harmed by the will of the gods, though is very limited in what they can do without mess with time.

Zork GR: Description: Similar to GoFP's human form but doesn't have the hat when covering his aspect. Instead has the Baneful Fox Mask on. Without the illusion, he has a snout and yellow eyes similar to his pokemon partners. His skin is unnaturally white to match the pokemon and also has flexible red claws for fingers. His hair is tipped red and he is unable to wear shoes because of have paws instead of feet. Legs are human otherwise. Overview: Worked Security (not at Gear station). Refused to have a pokemon but still took part in recreational battling against people with aspects. Did it to set a stupidly high bar for himself, sees it as dumb in hindsight. He's also mad at Arceus, but knows he can't retaliate, more mad at Kamado for trying to get him killed. Also pissed at Volo after finding out his role in getting him stuck in Hisu. Once he gets back he just wants to rebuild his life and make a better one for the pack of Zoroark that took him in.

Bliz HiWS: Description: Initially used a base shell copying Monty, lacked hair and was a slat gray with a belly stomach. After a redesign, he kept the blue stomach, but went with a darker gray. Also added gold face paint and lightning styled wrap around hands. Has "cracks" in his shell that light up. Head was reshaped to fit closer to a desert lizard with bumpier surface, shorter snout and looks more like he was a beard. Overview: Former Fazbear entertainment mechanic. He got suspicious of what was happening at night so attempted to bypass security but looking like an animatronic with an improved springlock suit. You can guess what ended up happening. Since the suit didn't have any programming to tell him hw to respond to serve as a replacement brain, his emotional responses got messed with. He sees himself as a martyr and tries to work himself to the bone, believing that his sole purpose for coming back was to end the nightmare going on around them. Weapon of choice is a self made "war ax" consisting of a tungsten sledge hammer head, steel handle, ax blade and spike. (I did the math and the head would be about forty lbs). He also has a habit of tinkering with his own body.

Turnstin TDM: (Hasn't appeared in a story yet, will in sequal to The Dragon Mage) Description: Average height for a viking, skinny, with blackish-purple hair that always sticks back. Wears a long cloak that is very old and damaged. Has rusted shackles on his wrists, that no longer have chains. He has a goatee and eyes glow an electric blue in the dark. Overview: Former dragon hunter before discovering he could use magic and getting betrayed by his crewmates. Lives near The Hidden World and has a thing for lightning. Everyone that knows of him thinks he's insane. Stories about him call him "The Disgrace of Thor."

Song That Makes You Think of Hiccstrid: since I was introduced to Hiccstrid via YouTube and watched a lot of music video edits that were also my first exposure to those songs, I actually associate a lot of songs with Hiccstrid simply because of the beautiful visuals created to go with the music, and not necessarily due to the lyrics. If I have to pick one two three songs, it'd be Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillips Phillips, I Won't Say I'm In Love from Hercules, and Accidentally In Love by Counting Crows.

Favorite Canonverse Fic: I can't really think of a specific fic and its title at the moment, but I bet a lot of the drabbles or short fics I've read filling in the gaps between their days in RTTE or RoB/DoB would take the spot.

Favorite Canon-Divergence Fic: Inner Struggles by @slavicviking is my ABSOLUTE favorite HTTYD fic, hands down. Need I say more? I'm expecting each and every one of you to know this one, because if not, it's going into the next prompt (could always use MORE RECOGNITION!!)

Many have said they're like yin and yang. The perfect couple that makes people believe in soul mates. No one knows that both of them are openly pinning after their best friend Stormfly. At least no one outside of their friend group and unfortunately Stormfly.

Hookfang: and probably a better fighter than either of you

Toothless and Light Fury staring dreamily at the taller girl: Exactly.

Stormfly does think her best friends act a little odd sometimes but who is she to judge? Their both from old money families and gods only knows they could be worse from what she's seen from their extended relatives. Thank Thor Stoick and Valka are so down to earth.

Stormfly also knows that to everyone else she doesn't belong among her friends. She herself is from a lower class family. Even her getting to attend college was only possible because the university gave her an archery and academics scholarship. Her sister, Astrid was working hard towards those same scholarships since the archery team added axe throwing. Visiting every other weekend so Stormfly can help with her networking. To others Toothless and Light Fury took pity on her and their other friends followed. Which to be fair Stormfly gets. They all went to the same small town school for years and it wasn't until junior year did any of them learn her name. They can afford all the newest things while Stormfly sometimes struggles deciding whether to pay rent late or starve for a few days.

So yeah Stormfly doesn't belong in her friend's world a lot of the time. But they don't take pity on her!

Hell who is she kidding? The only reason Stormfly met her friends because her younger sister just happened to be dating Hiccup, Toothless' younger brother.

It was obvious when they kept trying to buy her things.

The pity has gotten so bad lately though that Toothless and Light Fury started inviting her with them on date night.

Stormfly almost broke her bow over their heads the first time they asked her that. Do they believe she has so little pride?

Astrid snorted, aiming her axe while Stormfly aimed her arrow. "Storm they want to fuck you."

"WHAT!?" Stormfly released the arrow too soon, her aim way off.

Hiccup groaned from the side. "Please fuck them Stormfly and put them out of their misery. Their pinning has become unbearable! Dad and Gobber are taking bets."

Stormfly's face turned red, getting even redder when she sees said couple approaching.

Toothless goes to greet his brother when Stormfly exclaimed. "You two want to fuck me!"

Toothless went silent while Light Fury had a predatory grin. "Oh honey, we want to do more than fuck you."

I know I'm just one person and that I won't matter much in the grand scheme of things because your fears are totally understandable, but really the Festerverse is one of my fav things in the HTTYD fandom ever, I love the story and all your OCs as if they were my own children and I promise I'll make myself heard if you're scared of not getting a reaction out of this, I'll react enough to cover for 1000 if necessary! You are so sweet and this absolutely matters and it really did make me happy and I’m really glad that someone is looking forward to the boy and his shenanigans.  Like really, I appreciate this so much.  

But I also just want to make sure that I say that I didn’t make that post as like a “woe is me, no one is going to pay attention to Eret III”, and I’m really glad you sent these because thinking about how I wanted to answer actually helped me think through why writing festerverse feels so different than the hiccstrid aus I’ve been working on and why it’s so hard to switch over.  

I think that when I write hiccstrid, I focus a lot on trying to subvert expectations, because it feels like so many people have pretty much done it before.  So there’s that like, constant self-pressure to make it fresh and that’s inherently something that only exists pending a reader’s reaction.  So I guess hiccstrid feels way more collaborative with readers because I know readers will be interested and also I know that the readers have read every other permutation of what I’m doing and I’m really trying to do something new.  

Then with snotstrid or festerverse, there’s no expectation, in fact, there’s the expectation of no reaction, which means that instead of trying to do something fresh and new, I’m trying to make something out of the ordinary feel real and natural.  Like suddenly it’s all about bringing familiar feelings into the unfamiliar, which is basically the exact opposite of using hiccstrid’s familiar foundation to do weird narrative things.  

And all of that sounds really reasonable and like I thought through why this is hard very carefully, but there’s also the fact that I haven’t written Fuse in like a year and I have ZERO idea what’s going to come out of her mouth and I’m maybe a little intimidated.

THE VIGILANTE’S WAR

HTTYD. YEAR: 2014. LENGTH: 57,110 WORDS. A mysterious, antagonistic dragon rider dubbed “the Vigilante” crosses paths with Hiccup, and her increasingly violent actions appear to be leading to war against Berk. 

He tightened his hands, loosened them again. Breathed in, breathed out. He could feel himself stooped in the dirt, his shoulders hunched over his head, his knees buried in the ground and tucked underneath his torso. His neck was bent low close to the earth, providing him a good view of his hands and the ground and nothing else.

Well, and the blood.

That can’t possibly be all mine.

- PROLOGUE: FROM OUT OF THE HAZE

HTTYD 2′s original drafts had Valka as the main antagonist. I found this so interesting that I decided to rewrite HTTYD 2 - with a few of my own spins - on this concept. One of my most well-known fics, “The Vigilante’s War” is where I’ve gotten the most thorough reviews and most emotional reactions.

THE VIGILANTE’S LEGACY 

HTTYD. YEARS: 2014-2016. LENGTH: 20,546 WORDS. There’s been four years of war between three factions. Drago’s army. The Vigilante and her dragons. Berk and their allies. But now, Chief Hiccup believes there’s a way to end the conflict. Sequel to “The Vigilante’s War.”

Hiccup spoke up. Cleared his voice. Tapped his pointer finger apprehensively on the cell’s iron door. “You said we were making a mistake.” Might as well speak straight to the point of his visit. “Something about ‘you and every one of your warriors are making a mistake’ or – or something like that.”

For a moment Hiccup wondered if Valka actually would reply. The calculating gaze she gave him from the corner of her prison certainly did not seem a positive sign. However, then, with a steady, lilting cadence to her voice, she succinctly affirmed, “I did.” Just those two words. Nothing more.

- VIII. THE MISTAKES OF WAR

It’s unfinished; I haven’t updated because I ran out of steam and didn’t receive enough reader feedback encouraging me to continue. Though I did have a very vivid final chapter in mind… that I still love… which I never got to…?

MEMOIRS

HTTYD. YEARS: 2015-2016. LENGTH: 44,289 WORDS. My ongoing collection of drabbles for HTTYD. Angst, pain, comfort, humor, crossovers, crack, it’s all there. Favorites include “Family Portrait,” “Stubble,” “Buffcup the Brawny,” and “Remember When.”

He held her hand softly, one wrinkled hand laid gently on top of another. It was just her and him now in the house all alone – for their children had left on a voyage with the grandkids, and would not be back for a week yet, if even two. It evoked the quietness of the old days, back before they were old, back during the times when they were newlyweds and younger even than their grandchildren were today. Oh, but the smell of her hair was just as refreshing now as when it was blonde.

- REMEMBER WHEN

DINNER AT DRAGON’S EDGE 

HTTYD. YEAR: 2015. LENGTH: 5,452 WORDS. The gang’s settling in at Dragon’s Edge. To make sure everything operates smoothly, Hiccup suggests a chore rotation system. That means everyone has to do their fair share of the cooking… but it doesn’t mean everyone is a fair cook.

“Oh my gods, is this dinner or what the rats threw away?” Snotlout exclaimed, terrified at the Unidentified Edible Object before him.

Tuffnut picked it up with one experimental hand and held it out before him at a safe distance. People would have held poisonous snakes or bloodied torture devices more cheerily. Squinting his eyes and peering carefully at the peculiar specimen pinched between his fingers, rubbing under his chin with his other, free hand, Tuffnut remarked, “Looks something like what Barf and Belch poop out after they get sick and…”

- 1. ASSIGNING JOBS

This humorous fic I think is where I do best capturing HTTYD character personalities and interactions.

[SUPER]HERO THE HARD WAY 

HTTYD. YEARS: 2014-2017. LENGTH: 86,566 WORDS. In a modern world where Berk is full of superheroes battling the League of Outcasts, power-less Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third struggles to receive appreciation for who he is. Through his crime-fighting journey, Hiccup learns that, while he might not have powers, he can become a Hero the Hard Way.

“I wasn’t born with anything. Don’t have anything. I’m the son of Chief Stoick “Skullcrusher” and I don’t have anything. Not even a superpower to turn objects purple. Which frankly would be completely pointless but at least it would have been something.“

He realized he was babbling and promptly shut his mouth. He looked over at Fishlegs, who appeared to be wordlessly processing the information. The teenager appeared baffled moreso than anything else, which at least meant he was not outright rejecting him.

“So you’re going to train to be a superhero… and you don’t have any powers? I got that right?”

“You got that right.”

“Wow.” Fishlegs said.

Hiccup waited for more.

“That’s actually really cool.”

- CHAPTER THREE: SIDEKICKED

This started as me intending to write one crack chapter. It turned into me envisioning a ROB / DOB modern AU where all characters were superheroes. The final product became a retelling of HTTYD 1′s basic concept: Hiccup gaining his peers’ approval despite being different. Somehow, despite me 70% adlibbing by the seat of my pants (should I be admitting this?), I had great fun. And it brought in the most reviews, follows, and favorites of any of my posted stories! Thanks for the reads and support, everyone!!!

RESET OR RESUME 

UT. YEAR: 2016-2017. LENGTH: 85,841 WORDS. Gaster’s research unlocks the secret of time travel. After the Royal Scientist’s untimely end, one of Gaster’s colleagues - Sans - finds himself with the power to Reset. Confronted with unpleasant timelines and dangerous choices, Sans must decide how to navigate through time… if it’s worth resetting for a better future, continuing with hope for the present, or simply giving up.

No longer timid and silent, the human happily babbled all sorts of nonsense to Sans, everything from how to bake snow pies to how weird Sans’ skull looked to how beautiful the ribbon in their hair was to their opinions of Papyrus’ ‘battle body’ to how their mom didn’t like the color black to their personal opinion of ferrets to a long narrative of their encounter with a snail-loving old lady they met on the other side of the Ruins door. Everything could be the topic of a conversation. There was no filter and even less sense of restraint for this child.

“How are you a SKELETON?” their happy little high-pitched voice squeaked. They flew gallantly over a twig that rested, flat, on the surface of the snow. Powder flew everywhere as they landed heavily into the snowbank. “That means – that means you should be DEAD, you know!”

“who says i’m not dead?” Sans trolled with a wink.

With a shrieking giggle, they exclaimed, “Don’t be silly! Only ghosts are dead!”

“i could be a skeleton ghost.”

“No you – no you can’t.” The human seemed to be quite confident about their knowledge in paranormal metaphysics. “You can be a skeleton. You can be a ghost. But nobody – NOBODY – can be a skeleton ghost.”

“is that so?”

“YES so! You CAN’T be both. That would be wrong.” Maybe the human mentally categorized skeletons and ghosts as separate Halloween creatures, ensuring they were mutually exclusive concepts. It was always challenging to comprehend a child’s train of logic. “Except…” and now the child paused, leaning down and tugging at the sleeve of their sweater. Something thoughtful – at least as much as one so young could be thoughtful – passed over their eyes. They cocked their head to the side and stared at Sans. In the same sort of innocence with which they had talked about ferrets, the human inquired, “…can ghosts also be dust?”

I have particular fondness for this fic. I spent more energy and care with this than any other I’ve posted. Drenched it through with UT lore. Edited and revised thoroughly. Had two beta readers examine my ASL for accurate representation. I wrote extensive outlines that were several page long color-coded charts, had all this meticulous structuring going on…

The problem was, this was an impossibly ambitious project. Life got in the way, too. The 85,841 words here aren’t close to the end of Part 1. The final two Parts were going to explain the weirdness within Part 1 (the story doesn’t begin in chronological order - it gets pieced together like a puzzle). What I planned to write would have included a complex characterization arc for Sans, every human child that’s visited the underground, and multiple resets containing main character deaths… until the story would end with Sans confronting Frisk in the Genocide Route.

Hopefully, despite the incompleteness, this is enjoyable from its comedy to its angst! I would at least encourage people to read the first few chapters! Or “Socks” - an entire chapter devoted to Sans and Gaster pulling sock pranks on each other.

SOMEHOW THEY’RE STILL OFFICERS

FMAB. YEAR: 2018-2019. LENGTH: 6,036 WORDS. Ahhhhhh yes. Team Mustang. The hand-selected, elite group of military officers who effectively spend their time… doing nonsense. 

Everyone was scrambling at once. Mustang rushed forward to greet their guest, perfect composure only broken by the fast pace at which he moved. In fact the colonel’s posture was almost a proud enough display to make his lack of shirt go unnoticed. But Falman chucked his cards away at the same time he tried to salute; Breda was ducking from Falman’s sudden card shower; Fuery was launching pants and underwear in Havoc’s face; and Lieutenant Hawkeye, obviously abashed to be in this room at all, was covering her eyes with her hand in what was either her life’s longest sigh, or a pathetic attempt to hide her face and identity.
